Opera poser for @dreaminghour (tbh I suck at graphic design so it's more like an illustration)

I was thinking what I should draw for this request and if I need to come up with full new opera plot. No, I already have one! Actually in post-ROTJ au fic there should be (I don't know if I include it in the final version of the fic) an episode featuring one of the Anakin's favourite opera.

It calls "Celia" after the main character, and i thing you will easily recognise which real opera inspired me.

Here is the plot.

Celia is a canteen owner on a planet in the Outer Rim. She has a lover, captain Liim, who was military officer on his own planet before he met Celia and fell in love with her. He left military, moved to Celia's planet a bought a cargo ship to become a regular cargo ship captain on local inter-sector routes so he can see her regularly.

Once captain Liim starts to suspects that Celia is gradually losing interest in him. Celia sings and dances for him to show her affection, but captain Liim is still suspicious and jealous. Meanwhile Celia is introduced by her friends to Jasen Taal, emerging racing star. He is beautiful and charming, he flirts with her and promise to visit her canteen.

Couple of weeks later after winning another race Jasen Taal celebrates his victory in Celia's canteen. Captain Liim should be working, but he doesn't take orders from his clients and refuse to leave planet. He is jealous, he is afraid that Celia would cheat him when he is away. His crew is very unhappy about it, if captain Liim continues to act this way, they won't get their money next month and their regular clients will find another carriers.

Captain Liim visits Celia's canteen in the middle of celebration, he sees Jasen Taal flirting with Celia, and she doesn't stop him. Jasen Taal claims that he is completely mesmerized by Celia, he never saw a woman more charming than her. After the whole bottle of Corellian whiskey, in the end of the evening, captain Liim starts a terrible scandal, accusing Celia of cheating. He calls her slut in front of her employers and late guests. Celia is really mad. She says that captain Liim is a terrible person and she doesn't want to see him. Canteen's security guard kicks him out.

Next couple of weeks captain Liim drinks and tries to meet Celia to beg her for forgiveness. People are gossiping about him. And also he hears gossips that Celia is dating Jasen Taal now. He doesn't want to believe it.

One day captain Liim is able to find Celia in her home alone. Big annual race is coming, all the town is festive, and everyone is sure that Jasen Taal will win this race. Celia is going there too, but captain Liim doesn't know about it yet. He begs her to forgive him, he wants to be with her again. He tries to talk her into marrying him and stay with him on his ship. They will travel together. Celia finds his proposal utterly ridiculous and mocks him. Captain Liim accuses her of cheating again, Celia says that it's not his business. She doesn't want him. Captain Liim begs her to give him another chance. They were lovers for years and he thinks that deep down Celia still loves him. Celia doesn't love him anymore. They start to quarrel, Celia tries to get from her house but captain Liim blocks her way. She says that the race starts soon and she wants to see it.

"You wants to see you new lover!", accuses her captain Liim. She says that it's true, Jasen Taal is her lover now, and captain Liim should leave her alone because she loves another man. When he tries to claim her as his woman, Celia laughs in his face and says that she is her own woman and doesn't belong to any man. She tries to get past captain Liim again, but in his rage he violently pushes her away and trows her on the ground. She hits her head and when captain Liim, horrified by his own violence, reaches her, she is already dead.

So, Anakin watched this opera more then once in his youth, it's one of his favourite, it has really beautiful music and a lot of passion just like he loves. If he ever associated himself with anyone in this opera, it was Jasen Taal, charming racer. Also in Galaxy Opera House he was usually played by the actor who looked a lot like Anakin. He kinda despised captain Liim. When Anakin found out about Clovis, he mentally compared him with captain Liim.

He hasn't seen any operas when he was Vader, but later on Carati, he found a good recording of this opera from one of the local opera houses. At first he was a bit hesitant. The scenery was pretty simplistic, he usually didn't like this kind of staging. But when Celia appeared on a scene with her first aria Anakin was completely mesmerized by her. Actress had a beautiful deep voice and irresistible charm, it was very easy to understand how both captain Liim and Jasen Taal lost their minds over her. Anakin watched this pretty long opera in one sitting, but towards the end he became more and more uncomfortable. And when captain Liim killed Celia, Anakin was like: "Oh shit that's me. I was like that too".

Writing process question: With a story as long and involved as Emigre, do you have a master plot plan with an idea of where things will go all the way till the end, or are you sort of making it up in sections as you go? Or somewhere in between?

Hello! I started out, some 12 years ago, with a nebulous plot idea and a bunch of characters with a broad idea for an actual story in the background. I knew where I wanted my characters to go, the big scenes I wanted to write, and I had only a vague notion about the ending.

That worked for me for the first little while, but then my computer died and I lost my vague guideline notes. After that I was completely lost and totally disheartened. Regrettably, this coincided with some very unpleasant happenings in my personal life, and ultimately I ended up stopping my writing entirely.

Since returning to writing, I've salvaged all of the plot points I can recall and I've actually sat down and written out a point-for-point roadmap. I've patched as many plot holes as I can with this roadmap, tried to account for all of the characters that have been mentioned even once, and have a very thorough accounting of what happens from now until the end of the story. This has actually been hugely helpful, and I find it a lot more productive than my old, off the cuff method of writing.

So, for example, I'll usually set up something like this:

Bulreeng Taal: Dagmar and Thelen go to the local festival. Mixed results. INCLUDE:

A. First Vrath-Thelen encounter, goes poorly ; "I just wanted to talk to her and walk her home -because I thought she was in danger- and I was an idiot. I forgot how words worked and came off like an ass." B. Differing reactions to Dagmar, nice positive feels and disappointing negative reaction C. Draw from [inspiration 1] and [inspiration 2] for the festival but keep it alien! Figure out colours/themes, traditions, lore! D. Themes of healing and moving on/letting go throughout E. Enemies-to-loves starting vibes? See if it fits. F. Dagmar and Thelen have a conversation about boundaries, Tha’an/Sannev politics, and making an effort. Establish bestie-dom! IMPORTANT SUBPLOT INFO: Plant seeds for Dagmar/Thelen, maybe Vrath/Thelen where applicable but don't break the chapter for it

2. Date with Shral! (NOTE: Same day as BULREENG TAAL.)

A. Shral and Dagmar chat; expand upon dynamic, emphasize themes of calming and settling each other. B. SHRAL LAUGHS. Great maple syrup heist, ridiculousness. C. Constellations and lore! Write up a draft of a creation story, figure out themes and tidbits. Contrast the Star Thief with the Great Maple Syrup heist? Skip if it breaks the flow. D. Dagmar's gear failure - look up details for hypothermia, cold shock, and reactions to sudden, extreme temperature drops. Make it realistic. Gear fails gradually, a little at a time, before abruptly cutting out. E. If it fits, revisit intimacy between Dagmar and Shral. Consider realistic hesitation and reasons for caution - for Dagmar especially. Work with limitations from that perspective. F. Character development point: Shral is more open during intimacy, versus closed off and stoic otherwise. Contrast important! G. Ruin an arbiter's day, drop hints about Shral, make Dagmar oblivious. INCLUDE: yellow flash, identification cards, autopilot. “What’s wrong, Esheth? You look like you’ve seen a sea spirit.” / “I think I pulled over an Am Tal operative for speeding today.” / “...Oh shit.” / “It gets worse.”

The important thing about setting up my notes this way is not to hold them up as hard and fast rules but as guidelines. Sometimes the dialogue I'd like to include doesn't quite work, or the scene progresses more organically if I skip a bit here or leave some exposition for later on.

Currently, I have the entire story mapped out until the end, with two story arcs to complete and a bunch of additional chapters as well for various bits of lead-up, lore, exposition, and development. I also have about a dozen side stories tentatively mapped out in a similar fashion, too!

marie seems less depressed in 3, but she's a tiny bit more rude, at the very least less affectionately rude. this might just be a localization thing, but she definitely was a lot nicer in the overworld than she is now... maybe they'll change that later? unless they do i'm using it as an excuse for some angst, though.

three has a lot of dialogue, but sometimes it just doesn't come up and loops over and over again. i'm starting to think dialogue is chosen at random daily, meaning that you'll have to play the game a lot to see everything

also, callie doesn't seem to have any "i don't have anything left to say" dialogue, for some reason, which means she repeats even more than everyone else... jeez, cal, they really handed you the shortest end of the stick, huh~

a final note is i'm definitely playing through this again at LEAST twice. once in dutch, once in english to get all the dialogue. i know i missed a lot, and i wanna compile as much as i can.

Holy Week 2024

A week late in writing about the Holy Week break.

It was actually a pleasant surprise for me that Marianne got to spend the Holy Week at our house. Initially, I was just supposed to ask my parents if she can stay over since the ButtSquad was supposed to have a hike but the plan didn't push through. It was then my mother who talked to me who said that dad brought up the idea if Marianne would want to stay over.

Her stay at our home was relatively chill. I actually felt a little bit guilty since I wasn't able to plan something while she was here.

But it was fun for me, and hopefully for her during the break. We got to play Tekken and watch movies. My mother also got to interview get to know her better and showed my childhood pics which includes a naked me taking a shit, which I guess she really liked.

We went to a honey bee farm where we got to take some pictures and have a nice view of the Taal lake.

It was really fun having her at our home. At least for a while, my parents got to experience what's it having like having a daughter and me experiencing what it's like having my partner on the same roof for quite a long period of time.

It made me happy.

"The orbital kind."

'?????' Ebano hops off the crate to listen closely.

"Why are you asking me this? That's Phoebus' field of knowledge!"

"I did ask him. He didn't even give me anything resembling of an answer--only if I'm all right and if I'm unwell again."

Guy grumbles. "Count on our ever trusting 'Doctor' Phi to be dismissive. I don't know the procedure in detail, only vaguely what I learn from reading about the subject. But-….

"Would you know if there is a way to do it spontaneously on the spot? No tools?"

"No tools?! That's gory and brutal!!

"I can barely recall how Emilio did it, but it was a spur-of-the-moment thing, and even he was disgusted by himself when he found out what he did! It was a damn miracle the Eye didn't just squish from his thumb! And that's just with the Master! In humans, you have to consider the optic nerves, the tear ducts, the-….

"…What's wrong, Giovanni? Are you unwell? Are you hearing the voices again? Are they telling you to do things to yourself? Or-"

"Ohh, no! Not at all! I was just- … simply curious! But you had the right idea… I was thinking about how Emilio gouged out the Master's Eye and how he could have done it. It was all so fast…"

"Well, from what I can recall, I think what he did was stick his thumb on the tearduct side of the Eye and just yank it out the moment it stuck through. But that was centuries ago, and I can barely recall the details of the Taal fight. Just that- …. yes. It all happened so fast."

"………………."

"…..I sometimes wonder…. if Emilio never came…. if Emilio never faced the Master and take out his Eye…. would any of us still be here? At the very least Rashid, Ruixiong, and Abena would be spared…."

"……….." Giovanni gets up. "Thanks for the talk, Guy." He makes his way out of the hold….

But not before petting Ebano first. "Puuurrrr…..~"

"Why would anyone think of removing an eye with your bare hands? Especially in such a brutal manner?"
