friends what do you think retirement looks like for your wol? at what point do they think “this is it, i’m ready to settle down?” do they hang up the mantle as wol completely? do they still make themselves available as an adventurer under the right circumstances? what do they do in their new free time? when do kids come into play, if or when they have any? if they have kids beforehand, how does their relationship shift after retirement? i wanna know it allllll.

extremely barebones college au notes but since there has been some interest, here we go. (thank you @coldshrugs @lavampira & @hythlodaes for letting me talk about this a bit ilyyy)

leida as a fashion design student in big city art school (haven’t decided just how this universe works wrt like. eorzea or earth or some unholy amalgamation of both) along with childhood best friend tataru. was supposed to go to school for accounting or smth (family pressure to get a well paying job in a stable career) but decides to pursue passion instead.

ardbert as a baseball player at a neighboring university. actual major tbd? maybe? (i’m thinking kinesiology? gives him an excuse to meet lamitt and seems like a smart backup.)

they meet online when leida puts out feelers for a casual/club/drop in team/group(?) bc she's a big sports girl herself but the art school doesn't have it's own teams and she doesn't want to lose out on that. ardbert wants to play with his non-sports friends and has a contact at the rec center so he reaches out and helps her set it up. is this lame? probably but whatever!

friend group established!! leida & ardbert get on really well, becoming fast friends. also becomes really good friends with some of his teammates, namely thancred and renda-rae (i do believe they would have been such good friends weeps....)

leida & thancred fall into a situationship early on that puts some strain on their friendships with ardbert because. well. feelings are had but never acted upon.

i think leida takes a semester abroad. meets haurchefant and aymeric. no idea where i'm going with this particular thread yet but i know it's gonna happen and it may be. inch resting.

lots of cameos by other characters such as grad student emet-selch who leida works with during a show that she did costume design for

end game is leida & ardbert, but it's gonna take a while to get there naturally

not to get overly sentimental on main and all but it really is incredible how much has changed in just a few years. for most of my life i never really thought i would make it past 25 so i just. never really made plans. but now, just over a month shy of 28, it's like. i'm getting married this year. i'm back in school because i want to be. my friends may be far away but they've all made such incredible gestures of love and support that i get a little weepy just thinking about it. i have vague but tangible plans for the future. it's just....man. i wish i could go back in time and give hs me a huge hug and let her know that everything is going to be okay and that we make it, ya know?
