Oh my god I finally made it to Area Zero and holy SHIT. I am living for this. It’s got all the tropes I’m an absolute slut for: undiscovered, mysterious area that’s possibly biohazardous, off limits, and extremely dangerous, with many people disappearing into it to never return, or explorers going inside only to be trapped forever, full of creatures that haven’t seen the sunlight or human beings in possible centuries, that you get to explore with your Squad and band together to solve the mystery of something that hasn’t been solved in hundreds if not thousands of years as you continue to delve deeper and deeper into the unknown…
Also the battle theme fucking SLAPS

#angle under the cut where you can see their eyes because it is NOT very flattering from the front#sharpedo#this is the fucker that zooms after you like a missile in the swsh DLC‚ right? i think it also does that in sv. it's scary honestly#it's so fast. and it makes that big ol' zoomin' effect like the third nozzle in super mario sunshine. i don't remember what it's called but#it's the gray one. super mario sunshine is my favorite mario game which i feel like is not a very popular opinion#but it tracks because i had a gamecube as a kid. so games on that tend to be some of my favorites because nostalgia i guess#luigi's mansion‚ super mario sunshine‚ pokémon colosseum…#i could go on and on about these games.  honestly. luigi's mansion is one of my favorites of all time. i still think it's great even as an#adult. it's much better than the other luigi's mansions in my opinion‚ though i guess my opinion Might be clouded by nostalgia#although i would like to think i can look back on it with a critical eye. i still replay it basically once a year cuz it's super short#i think it's super atmospheric and the later two luigi's mansion games don't really capture that same aesthetic#of… what basically amounts to like. a horror aesthetic. which is weird to say because it's a kids' game but#y'know i'm also not putting my whole brain into these tags right now bc i'm distracted but i hope i am making sense#fellow luigi's mansion fans know what i'm talking about. this is not about sharpedo so here is sharpedo#i believe this'll be posting on the last day of my outing when i'll be flying back home. so. finger's crossed#nope i just queued it and it's the day before i'm flying home. either way‚ good luck‚ future me

My favorite thing about Pokémon is how I can find someone earnestly declaring literally any Pokémon their favorite. It’s why I don’t mind Pokémon that aren’t my aesthetic, even if I personally dislike them, because I can go out and see ten people out there for whom that was their favorite Pokémon ever.  There’s a person out there that was waiting the entire series for a Pokémon just like that one, whatever Pokémon it is. Genuinely, there’s a Pokémon for every aesthetic, and that’s what makes them good.  After all, Pokémon have always had wildly different design aesthetics interacting; compare Tentacool to Vaporeon, Muk to Pikachu, Kabutops to Clefairy. Pokémon are designed to appeal to completely different aesthetics, and that’s always been the case.

tbh my take from the whole Pal world thing is that I genuinely think that if Game Freak didn't fumble the bag w/ SV so badly, a lot less people would be singing it's praise and treating it like another mon game. (IMHO the gameplay looks like shit, and the only designs I like are the stolen ones) And more critical of things like the whole stealing designs and, you know, Capturing and Selling Actual Human People?!?
Like this really feels like a bunch of Pokemon fans got (very understandably) burned hard by how bad SV was at launch, and wanted to find something to fill the void and/or stick it to Game Freak by showing them that much smaller developers could make something superior to the largest franchise in the world.
But y'all, there are so many better options out there (Monster Hunter Stories, Nexomon, Coromon, etc.) If you're tired of Game Freak dropping the ball so hard these past several years, I highly encourage you to play these games. There are so many creature collection games out there that are much more deserving of all the hype and media PW is getting.

indigo disk is coming out in just over a month and we still have very little information..... on the fence about how i feel about this!
on one hand i'm so on board with them actually leaving things secret until the dlc drops, but on the other hand... legendaries? shiny huntable legendaries? sw/sh + dlc legendaries and enamorus shiny real at the very least?

also said this on twitter abt the nuzlocke tpci drama but ill repeat here ig, i totally believe that tpci didnt realize that nuzlockes were self imposed challenges and were out of touch enough to assume it was a romhack their employees wanted to try. however its a) very very telling that people jumped to that conclusion considering it aligns w nintendo’s unreasonable copyright strikes as a whole like a lot of this is groupthink but i understand the line of thinking and b) still really gross of them to treat their employees poorly over a misunderstanding

As much hate Chairman Rose's motivation gets from SW/SH, the show goes pretty hard establishing that his want to control Eternatus is a direct result of his father getting killed working a coal mine.

so im like 20hrs into violet and other than a bit of lagging textures that’s like in nearly every console release since like the ps2 I’ve yet to have any serious glitches or issues. there’s some general performance problems & im 100% adamant on this game needed maybe a few months more of like development to like fix some serious optimization issues but I will say that the game is super fun, the map is so fucking big I’m torn on if I like that or not LMAO, but the art design & characters holy shit. the stories n branching paths are very fun, the freedom to fuck off is super nice & I like the less aggressive play style the game has. i think it’s worth waiting a bit to purchase if ur interested esp the first two weeks of sales are like detrimental to video games & bad sales can def show game freak they need to slow down & ease off the crunch, but the game isn’t terrible by any means imo.

Hope all the PokeTubers who participated in #ThanksGamefreak or whatever it was after the absolute mess that was SWSH's release are bringing that same energy to TPC's statements on Nuzlockes. :)

I am doing a Bug only run in Pokémon Shield and I have to rant a bit. Nah, not that the game is too easy. I actually had a little bit of trouble with a few battles. It's about the world of SwSh and how boring it becomes quickly. You see, at the beginning of the challenge I still had more fun. I had fun up until I got the fourth badge and then the quality just... dropped... And I noticed something, it already bothered me the first time in Sword. And I have to compare it to the very first one, Red/Blue. See, in Red/Blue you start out pretty much as in SwSh. Just with the gym challenge. But! And that is a pretty big but! Before you even get the second badge the game lets you cross TWO dungeons, Viridian Forest and Mount Moon. ShSw doesn't have that. SwSh has the Galar mine which is pretty much just a straight line with nothing to explore. Then, after you get the second badge in Red/Blue, you will explore an off route to visit Bill. Nothing like that happens in SwSh. You pretty much only loop back to the town with the third gym. You could argue the Wild Zone is meant to be the explorable part, but the Wild Zone is pretty... barren... Okay, so back to Red/Blue. You meet Team Rocket first in Mount Moon. And since then they will be a staple in the game and appear a lot. You meet some grunts in Celadon City and then later after you passed Rock Cave (look ANOTHER dungeon), you meet them in Pokémon Tower (gasp, a DUNGEON) and then you have to fight them in their secret base (is that a DUNGEON?!) SwSh only lets you go through routes and gyms and it does that for... the fucking rest of the gym challenge! You meet Leon some times and he ... SOLVES the problems that arise! And while it is nice that the champ actually DOES something, that doesn't make for an engaging game. Why do they dangle a mystery in front of you and don't allow you to solve it? Let's recap, while our SwSh trainer got the badges four to eight, our Red/Blue trainer crossed several dungeons, beat Team Rocket thrice, had two battles against Giovanni and got four more badges on top. And if they want, they can even go and catch the legendary birds which are almost all in *GASP* DUNGEONS! Just... when did Pokémon decide it had to be a linear hallway game? Where are the off roads? The dungeons? The legendaries you can only find when you explore? I hate the SwSh world so much... the game would have been LOADS better if not for this boring boring boring boring world.

Saw some misinformation on this, so just in case some people didn't know:
If you stop paying your Pokémon Home subscription, your Pokémon will not be deleted. I understand this was the case after a certain period in Bank, but not in home. You'll only have access to the first 30 Pokémon in the free box. But once you pick up the subscription again, all your Pokémon will still be there.
You do not have to buy the SwSh or SV DLCs to gain access to the Pokémon they introduce. You won't be able to catch them in the main game, but you can trade them or transfer them from Home without buying the DLC.
There is a lot of valid criticism about the modern Pokémon company and franchise, there's no need to make up lies or spread misinformation.

hi cami! hope youre doing well! id like to ask.. have you seen that pokemon zensho is now fully available in english? i only found out recently lol. you can find it at mangadex! if you have, what are your thoughts on it?
Hi there @soulsilvers I'm doing well thank you for asking! Yeah, I actually didn't know that they full translated Pokemon Zensho until I got this ask, so thank you for alerting me to this I appreciate it! So of course I had to read it all last night! Link here for anyone who wants to read it! It was so cute honestly. First Pokemon Concierge, now Pokemon Zensho making me cry and I'm here for it honestly. Like you said on discord, it definitely is very rushed at only 9 chapters. I definitely would've loved to see it have a few more chapters to explore more about Red and Blue's friendship (well here called Ash and Gary) and going through the league (I always feel like the elite four part of the Kanto story always seems to get the short end of the stick). Despite it's rushed nature, it does make up for it in being the most true-to-gameverse adaptation. But what I appreciated the most was the details that were added were very grounded. Like the problems the gym leaders were facing felt real. It was cool to see how Giovanni became the way he was because it has been hinted at that he's not always been the ruthless Team Rocket boss but something made him that way. I've grown to like Lt. Surge a lot over the years and I feel like his arc was really wholesome too. Many people criticize Kanto for it not being particularly story driven (which to each their own, some people like story drive gameplay some don't, groups are valid), but to say it's completely devoid of story is false. The theme of Gen 1 besides exploration is relationships. It's why the key driver is the rivalry (and strained friendship) between Red and Blue. The orphan Cubone, Agatha and Oak, even Mewtwo's existence plays on the concept of relations in a subtle way. Zensho takes this concept and runs with it throughout as Red travels through Kanto. Much like Pokespe, Pokemon Zensho does a good job at bringing smaller but notable NPCs into the fold and it was done in a way that was not overbearing (looking at Marvin from SwSh Pokespe taking Hop's spot). It was cool to see the SS Anne captain and Game Warden get some more screentime. Also props for this manga low key making non-binary Bill canon! I know some people who read it may not like this version of Red not being "badass" in that he does earn some of his badges without actually defeating the leaders but I think the way it's handled here was okay. I think part of Red's character is supposed to be how he puts caring for others first despite being so talented at battling and I think it's okay that there are adaptations that don't just fall into him being a legendary battler who sweeps everyone. Even though this is a retelling of Red's story I would say if I'm honest this was really Blue's story. Blue got a lot of focus in this manga and outside of Pokemon Generations we don't really get to see into Blue's mindset. I appreciated as you mentioned on discord, how despite everything it did still focus on the fact that Blue was still Red's friend despite everything. It's not something that's focused on a lot in gen 1 adaptations. And of course the rest of the Oak family gets some shine too. This is probably my favorite portrayal of Oak in that it retains some of his flaws but humanizes him too (although I wish they had devoted some time to his and Agatha's rivalry). And Daisy...even with her limited screen time very much still shone especially with her calling out Professor Oak for his harsh words towards Blue. And then of course the revelation of what happened to Blue and Daisy's parents. Give those kids (and this Professor Oak) a hug. This is definitely my favorite of the four Pokemon manga I've read thus far and if we ever got a short miniseries for the Gen 1 games again I would hope it would take more of the Zensho approach and be game accurate while still expanding on little lore details.

You kinda pointed out that he does a while ago so I'm curious: why don't a lot of people pick up on the fact Leon has a different, significantly more irritating personality in the anime? It REALLY doesn't seem to be a common take that he does but oh does he ever
ooooo hello and goodmorning :3
i actually think about that post bc i feel like i didn’t word it properly :o
i think leon in general has a very hit or miss personality especially with a fanbase that is so tainted with nostalgia rose coloured glasses. leon is canonically the strongest champ (compared to red i have no clue where he would stand) and despite this being clear as DAY and implied within swsh i think what made leon seem annoying and got him his rep is: 1. the anime amped his most “annoying characteristics” of being the “unbeatable champ” and how he constantly tells you and 2. showed this roided up version to more fans on a larger scale. i also think him sweeping the floor with alain and diantha then saying “oh i got lucky” did not help LOL. the anime literally ran on plot armour so im not sure why people are shocked he sweeped some oc ass character and a champion people constantly say is “the worst champion from the worst game” (diantha defence squad here!).
i think all of that makes anime fans think leons “full of himself” when i feel like most swsh enjoyers know, that isn’t true. i think he’s got a somewhat childish mindset (possible due to being in the champion light for most his life) and is constantly making sure others don’t have to worry about shit, and burdens himself with those worries. leon is the epitome of the “big brother” stereotype which is why i love him so much.
i think another issue is that leon requires a lot of filling in the gaps (swsh in general, so not an exclusive criticism to leon). giving a trainer the title “the strongest” is risky because if you don’t flesh out that backstory and just expect fans to agree, it’s gonna feel cheapened. i feel why most fans accept red to be the strongest is because we PLAYED as him as kids. we saw red go from being weak, defeating team rocket and becoming the first ever champion. so to see him all alone on mount silver with his perfectly rounded, insanely high levelled team - it feels good because we SAW him on the journey that got him there. we didn’t see that with leon so i guess the lack of relatability also adds to the dislike. i also think while leon and red are meant to kinda mirror eachother in terms of what they both represent, again, red has the relatability that saves him for most. the anime was the PERFECT opportunity to show and flesh out leons backstory but all they did was like a 5 second flashback via sonias perspective.
i think leon’s biggest character development comes from being obliterated (and possibly traumatised but let’s leave the headcanons out of this LOL) by eternatus, being manipulated by rose and then being beaten by gloria/victor. i always tell people if they wanna watch a more enjoyable leon to watch twilight wings. i feel as if all the miniseries (evos, generations, twilight wings, origins) did a WAY better job showing these characters in the actual game environment.
