i finished it!! she's double knit. this is the first fully my own pattern i've made 🔪

it's easier to write a bunch of patterns than it is to actually make them but i think i'd have to make them if i were to post them so i could see if they were good or not lol

next i've got 4 cushions that are 70cm diameter that need covers. that's a lot of real estate for my silly little pictures!! we'll see if it takes me 5 years to finish all that 🧶

I do think it's worthless to try to argue with the "amount of screen time = relative significance" crowd, but I really cannot stress enough how great this episode was for me personally, as an Essek stan.

I was doing the math between the mention of the war in the prelude (instead of a more general, 'since the Mighty Nein largely parted ways') and Trent saying, "Don't you want to know what I have?" and sat in my chair for ten minutes before Trent actually said it like, "Surely this man is not about to threaten Essek. That is way too much wish fulfillment for me personally. There is no way that's what he's about to say." AND THEN.

Fundamentally my opinions of an episode are not predicated on whether my fave was physically in attendance, nor even whether he was relevant, but it does show how reductive the measurement of screen time is as a metric considering Trent didn't even have to mention Essek by name to drag his living soul in kicking and screaming to briefly haunt this narrative.

#meanwhile essek is somewhere living his best life aka taking arcane measurements trying to figure out what the fuck is happening #like he's probably a little anxious but he's doing wizard things so he's thriving #critical role #cr spoilers #essek thelyss #this is partially inspired by the weird grumbling about 'wdym you enjoyed the episode if you're an essek stan you're supposed to hate it'#but especially cuz literally I don't understand how you witness 'dragged in to hang like a sword of damocles over caleb's head'#and go 'okay well he wasn't on screen so clearly you all should be bitter that he wasn't there'#like you don't have to be physically present to be relevant guys. this is narrative 101. that's what haunting the narrative MEANS.#tbf this was a low level narrative haunting cuz it was explicitly stated but like. that's more about time limitations. anyway.

THE SWORD OF DAMOCLES IS SWINGING ⸺ this is the first book in a pjo au that i am working on, it is based on the books AND is not really based on the tv show series as i started it months before the show came out. it starts in the titan's curse and thus contains spoilers (for those who have only watched the show) for the lightning thief and sea of monsters. it is a slow burn luke castellan fic, with a little bit of grover underwood sprinkled in although as i'm writing it, i am currently considering that luke/oc/grover be the end pairing in the series. only time will tell what the endgame pairing will be. currently the book is focusing on found family and the roll the oc plays in the pjo verse.

tbh one of the things that makes me think that roman might kill himself is i feel like the show's just gonna give everyone the worst, most tragic, pyrrhic victory ending and i feel like roman's death would do that. 'cause right now he's really the glue holding the family together. he’s the one who most wants them to be a family and is actively trying to get them to be one and he’s the one who genuinely keeps reaching out. and, like. he's kendall and shiv's partner and he’s their teammate but he's also their co-conspirator when they're working against the other and he’s their go-between and kendall and shiv will also unite to work against him and he's the main point of contact with connor and the one to stand up for him when kendall and shiv want to exclude him. he's the center point of those connections. he’s the heart. and if roman dies, and if he does so in a way where they'd likely not only blame themselves but each other as well (and especially because they did in some way contribute to roman’s declining mental health for their own professional benefit, which is kind of already happening), i can see that irrevocably splintering the family in a way that logan's death hasn't. and i feel like something as tragic as that is what the show'll end up doing. (especially if the business side of all their lives does actually end up going well. like, maybe they’ll all to varying degrees ‘win’ but at what cost and was it really worth it in the end?) (it wasn’t but now it’s too late to go back.)

Listened to MAG 104 the other night for the first time. And I knew going in Tim had a brother named Danny, and that something happened to him and that's what led him to the Institute.

But hearing his statement? Hearing the amount of raw emotion in his voice? Nothing prepared me for it.

You can hear every ounce of regret, pain, fear, and anger. At what happened. At the monster who did it. At Danny. At himself. Tim was forever changed by his brothers death. He didn't do anything, he couldn't have done anything. But couldn't he? What if he'd been able to stop it? What if he'd moved? Intervened? What if he'd tried?

He was no match for whatever killed Danny, he probably would have died alongside him. The rational part of him knows that. It wouldn't have helped anyone. But because he didn't try, because he didn't do anything, he'll never know for sure. He'll always have the 'what if?' at the back of his mind.

Frozen in fear, but legs shaking.

Unable to help, but not unable to try.
