I mean Leah on the Offbeat has internalized biphobia as young ppl who don’t know things, that’s how I interpreted that One Part that I hated. Lol. We all hated it.
I mean I know people who Vehemently Hate Love Simon because of the blackmail premise. Like yeah, I think the original svtha shows influence of a very 90s early 2000s movies that revolves around bets and deception for rom coms to be put in motion.
I mean the movie did very much mess up his friends during that sad/bad patch with them. But yeah.
What was my point again.
Oh yeah the last loto stuff in the tag was all about the book being bad and I’m like that’s valid but I understood it as youthful ignorance rather than biphobia and gatekeeping. It’s not correct, ya know? But if it’s too offputting for you that’s fine. Leah should have apologized. :/

I’m so happy that hbomberguy brought up Lovr Simon (the movie)/Simon Vs The Homosapien Agenda! (The book) in his video bc. I’m a guy who likes guys and before I knew that SvTHA was one of my favorite books. It was one of the reasons I found out I was trans. Also, the author has a SECOND BOOK IN THE SERIES!! Called Leah on the Offbeat! Which is also really good! And is ABOUT A BISEXUAL WOMAN!! LIKE THE AUTHOR. Idk I wanted to talk about it bc I love both of these books

Do you have a book series to recommend that you believe is underrated?
to be honest i mainly read popular books lmao
i think one series i read that i quite enjoyed and that i don’t talk about as much here are the creekwood books. granted, simon vs the homosapien agenda (love, simon) is incredibly popular but most people actually don’t know that there are two sequels (plus a novella i haven’t read yet).
much like svtha both sequels deal with adolescence and coming into adulthood, the upside of unrequited especially goes deep into what growing up is like with an anxiety disorder and i found it a great representation! and leah on the offbeat is just amazing, i really adored leah in svtha and i find the way Albertalli writes her so satisfying and realistic

I feel bad for fans of "Love, Simon" that dont know its originally a book, therefore haven't read Loto, therefore still believe that Leah and Abby are straight and Abby and Nick lived happily ever after. I'm so sorry guys.

Becky wrote another one after Simon that I read and it absolutely was a flop. So disappointed that I spent money on it 🙃
Oh yeah I've seen a few people say they didn't like it/were disappointed.
Honestly I think it comes from the fact that svtha was so overhyped? People were expecting this big amazing thing because of her reputation with svtha but the reality is that people had latched onto svtha because there was very little mainstream gay lit to be held and when they read they new one (after being exposed to some of the other lgbt works that grew more popular after the hype of svtha) it just didn't live up to everything they wanted.
I think svtha can be appreciated for what it is, a light novel about a gay kid on in hs (I call it bubblegum fiction because it's small, sweet, doesn't last long and you forget about it and move on to the next one easily). And that's fine. In fact I want more lgbt lit/media like this because it's normalising and cishet media is drowning in it so why not lgbt? I think her new one was in the same vein as this and that's not some people are looking for which is fine.
Send me a book that you would never reccomended to anyone

the upside of unrequited deserves more
how does tumblr have such massive leah on the offbeat and simon vs. and what if it’s us fandoms but there isn’t an OUNCE of appreciation for the upside of unrequited????????? what???????? molly peskin-suso is one of the best characters that becky abertalli has EVER written and i absolutely adore her.  she’s relatable, actually has GOOD character development, an adorable love story, and isn’t super annoying!!! (btw: no hate towards simon vs or what if it’s us or loto, it’s just that tuou is just as good, if not better than most of them but nobody seems to like it)

books read in 2018: simon vs the homo sapiens agenda
Honestly, the weirdest part is how they made it feel like this big coming out moment. Which can't be normal. As far as I know, coming out isn't something that straight kids generally worry about. That's the thing people wouldn't understand. This coming out thing. It's not even about me being gay, because I know deep down that my family would be fine with it. We're not religious. My parents are Democrats. My dad likes to joke around, and it would definitely be awkward, but I guess I'm lucky. I know they're not going to disown me. And I'm sure some people in school would give me hell, but my friends would be fine. Leah loves gay guys, so she'd probably be freaking thrilled. But I'm tired of coming out. All I ever do is come out. I try not to change, but I keep changing, in all these tiny ways. I get girlfriends. I have a beer. And every freaking time, I have to reintroduce myself to the universe all over again.
