You didn't really consider yourself a villain, more like, someone with questionable morals. In your eyes, you were in the right... You were fighting for something bigger than yourself... something important. There just happened to be... collateral damage at times. That made you the bad guy in many people's narratives.

It wasn't like you asked for the power to turn any liquid into poison. It wasn't like you asked for your trauma. Good and bad, they weren't black and white. People who appeared good, could be bad and vice versa. Powerful people do bad things and get away with it, and the good people are left to pay the price.

  Without delving into the horror show that was your childhood, you had experience some bad shit. You knew early on that power was corrupt and people loved to pray on the weak and innocent. So, when you discovered your powers, accidentally, at the ripe age of 8... You got a taste of what it felt like to make those people pay. One little tap, and the bad people would be gone. One accidental brush and they couldn't hurt you anymore. You could protect the ones that had no one in their corner. You could use your powers for something good... by doing something bad.

The problem, is that no matter how many times you tried to fix the injustices in the world, things never got better. You never felt safe. Tracking down the man that single handedly ruined your life became an obsession... a goal. Part of you knew that removing him from the world wouldn't fill that hole inside if you... but that was something you were going to have to figure out yourself. You kept telling yourself that if you could just make him pay for his heinous acts... you could finally relax and enjoy your life.

So, that's what you did. You worked to track down that man, while on the side operating as a hit-woman for cash. You had strict rules, you only helped women and only went after abusers, child kidnappers... well, you get the picture. In your own messed up way, you thought you were doing something good. The media, however, loved to paint you as some mistress of darkness. Killing powerful men for the thrill of it. You never cared to correct them, it wasn't like they often listened to the opinions of women... or villains.

  The hypocrisy in society filled you with anger. If a hero 'accidentally' kills a bad guy in the heat of battle, they are rewarded and praised. If you kill a bad guy, suddenly you are a threat that has to be neutralized.

Most of the heroes that were sent after you were a nuisance. Easy enough to evade or deal with... but annoying enough that it slowed down your efforts. They attacked without provocation, often harming innocent civilians around them. Too many people you worked to save had been killed by heroes who were after you.

  There was only one hero that you respected. He was the only hero that wasn't in it for the glory or money, but genuinely because he wanted to make a difference. He took on jobs no matter the size, and only initiated combat once everyone was evacuated. You looked up to him.

He went by the hero name, DK... you had no idea why or what his real name was. Your first run in with him had been... well interesting to say the least. DK controlled light, could bend and alter it to his will, use it to warm or to incinerate. Flashy quirk to go along with his sunshine demeanour.

  The first time he captured you, he told you that you weren't a bad person, that he knew all the good you did. Proceeded to let you go with a 'stern warning'. You long gave up trying to understand what went through his mind. That incident happened 2 years ago now... and while you didn't stop going after your goal... you did try and alter your approaches to things.

  DK made you want to be a better person... but you had a hard time letting go of your grudge and past.

  "Why do you keep coming after me when you know you can't catch me?" you taunted the hero, flashing him a cocky smirk.

"Who said I was even trying to catch you?" DK shot back, circling you, hands lit up in pulsing blue light. You had long learned his attack style and patterns. Blue meant minor electrical shock, green was stun and red was the bad one. He had never once tried to use red on you, and even the intensity of his blue light was not strong enough to incapacitate. DK was right, he wasn't trying to catch you, at least not seriously.

  "You could make a great hero, y/n. You haven't killed anyone in over a year, don't think I haven't been keeping track. You, at most, give people a mild stomach ache. Get them down long enough for you to get those people you help away." DK explained, grinning when your cheeks flushed red.

"So what, you're trying to recruit me now?" You scoffed, rolling your eyes at his words. He wasn't wrong.

"I have things I have to finish... there are still people out there that are involved in very bad things" you jaw tensed as you thought about that man. You were tempted... so very tempted to take DK up on his offer. You would have a life where you weren't always on the run, weren't always looking over your shoulder.

"Then let's work together..." DK pleaded, stepping closer towards you but not lowering his guard.

  "We can solve whatever problem it is together, and with the law on our side. Can you trust me? Trust that I'll do everything in my power to help?" DK continued. You waivered, he made it sound so easy. Like, if the two of your worked together there was nothing you couldn't do. But reality, it wasn't easy, it was anything but. You scowled and shook your head.

"Don't give me false hope. Don't tell me that you can solve all my problems, fight all my demons, like it's just a walk in the park. It's complicated... the things that man has done..." you shuddered, glaring at DK. How dare he come in here and condescend. He didn't know what you had been through. He didn't know the extent of which that man still had control over you.

  "I can't help you unless you talk to me" DK tried again, but his posture was looser, part of him aware that he had already lost this battle of wills.

  "And talking to you will put my entire plan at risk... I'm sorry, I have to do this" you shut him down. In a quick motion you leaned down and touched the puddle at your feet, turning it into a highly corrosive poison. You fell to the floor below before sprinting off, leaving a forlorn hero in your wake.

»»————-　♡　————-««  Everything was almost ready to go, tonight you would exact the revenge you had been planning for 19 years. You would finally be able to relax after this, or so you told yourself.

  It was a simple plan really, but was not without flaws. The biggest flaw being that man's family would get caught in the crossfire. You told yourself you were okay with this. This was your only shot, you had to take it.

  You were careful with your planning not trusting anyone with information on the whole plan. Most of it would be done yourself. You just had to get into his mansion control room and touch the sprinklers, and then it would all be over. You follow through the motions, bribing the guards to sneak onto the premises. Everything was working out perfectly, you made it to the control room without incident. You just had to make contact with the pipes now, just one touch is all it would take.

"You don't want to do this" A voice pleaded with you, causing you to jump and quickly retract your hand. DK, of course it was DK.

  "Don't" you snapped, looking between the hero and the pipe.

"y/n... you don't hurt children, that's not who you are" DK spoke slow, stepping closer to you. You screwed your eyes shut... he was right... but...

"I won't have this chance again... I can't..." your voice broke. You wanted to demand why he was here, how he knew what you were up to and why he felt so determined to stop you. But you were tired, so tired.

  "Doing this... it won't make you feel better. It won't right the wrongs of the past" DK continued, causing you to flinch.

  "You don't know that..." you whispered, but leaned back away from the water main.

  "What do you want from me? Why won't you just leave me alone?" you asked, tears threatening to overflow now.

  "You. I just need you right now" DK stated, hesitantly reaching out. "I need you to not throw your life away on someone who is not worth it. I need you to trust me, just this once" DK's voice was steady, calming. You contemplated his words, so tempted to just reach out and put an end to all of this. After a few tense moments you nodded, sighing. Your body went limp as you fell into his hold.

  "Okay" you whispered. "I'll trust you"

jeonghan is a devil in the disguise of an angel, everyone knows that. even carats adore his mischievous personality and tricks that he pulls on his members.

but the thing is that behind closed door, he truly is an angel. for you and only you.

“baby, do you want some coffee?” jeonghan asked, looking over his shoulder at you. his bare face was glowing, dark hair tucked behind his ear. he even let you put a hello kitty clip to keep them in one place. he was met with seungcheol’s teases but he ignored them.

“yes, please” you replied, eyes laser focused on the jenga tower in front of you.

it was 10 in the morning and you woke up like an hour ago from the sleepover you had with him and cheol. because they couldn’t join their members on tour, you decided to bless them with your amazing self.

“make me one too” cheol hummed and slowly but surely pulled out a wooden block.

now who jeonghan was to follow his leader’s orders?

you caught his cat-alike smirk painting on his lips and sighed.

“hannie, don’t be mean. make him a coffee too” you said, voice gentle. seungcheol looked at him confused, lips forming into a pout.

“listen to your partner…” he grunted and shook his head, adding more quietly underneath his breath “…if you don’t listen to me, listen to them at least”

couple of minutes later he joined you with three steaming cups. with your preferred coffee in your favorite mug and a simple one for seungcheol, even though he wasn’t a fan of plain black coffee. the oldest ignored that, just rolling his eyes.

you joined jeonghan to watch the boys practice, yet you two were slumped over the couch there.

in no time jeonghan began playing with your hair, fingers gently caressing through your h/c locks.

mingyu glared at you two curiously, nudging hoshi. the younger one grinned, heart melting upon the cute act of love blooming between you two.

jeonghan grabbed your face, cupping your cheeks and cooing at you.

“i could dress up as you and pretend i’m you!” your boyfriend teased one day when you clearly needed support, head almost blowing with the amount of knowledge you have to obtain.

so in times like this, when you’d spend nights studying and struggling with life, jeonghan knew that you need him. and that every thing, even a small one can be challenging.

“hannie, i made the bed today. i used a new–“ you started when he entered the bedroom. his eyes instantly went wide as jeonghan threw himself on the fresh sheets.

“ah, it smells so good!” he took a deep breath and hummed in delight. patting the spot next to him, he sent you a reassuring smile.

so you joined him, his arm almost instinctively wrapping around yours.

“my baby made the bed, good job” jeonghan smiled tenderly, brushing the strand hairs out of your face. you smiled, looking at his soft features “i’m proud, really. we’ll sleep comfortably tonight, hm?”

you nodded and turned, wrapping your arms around his waist and clinging onto your boyfriend like a koala.

“i’m tired” you mumbled quietly.

“i know, pretty. just a few moments more and you’ll rest. you’re so smart, you know? i believe in you” jeonghan kept reassuring you, his tender touch ghosting over your face “my cute baby, hm? no matter how you do on the exam, i’m proud of the effort you put in”

you smiled, inhaling the scent of fresh sheets and jeonghan’s cologne.

“my cutie…” he singsang and started lulling you to sleep with his angelic voice. not like you complained, you could use a nap either way.

orange peel theory is making it's rounds on local tiktok and twitter. this is my humorous take on how the HIP HOP UNIT discuss/deal with the orange peel theory with their significant others.

"would you peel this for me?" she placed a tangerine on his desk – not caring if he was in the middle of playing his video games.

without having to ask twice, seungcheol hid his character behind a container, away from his opponents shots and reached for the fruit. "cover me, wonwoo." he mumbled into the mic, peeling the citrus with ease. "just one?"

y/n smiled as he handed the fruit back to her. "just one."

"that's so small. get another." seungcheol nodded over to the kitchen.

"no this is fine." she shook her head, happy with the results.

he probably thought she was hungry, and considering dinner was hours away, seungcheol knew it would not be enough to hold her off.

standing from his seat, he made his way to the bag of cuties they had purchased at the store – peeling two more.

"that's enough." she laughed, stopping him from peeling a third one.

"baby?"

"hm?" he responded from the other side of the couch, preoccupied with his mobile game.

"would you peel an orange for me?"

wonwoo glanced up, looking behind her to see an empty counter top – a place where they usually kept their fruits.

locking his phone, wonwoo bounded for the door – leaving his girlfriend confused. "where are you going?"

"getting oranges." he replied, as if it was the most obvious response – grabbing his keys off of the hook.

"wait–" y/n laughed, walking over to him. "it was hypothetical."

wonwoo's head tilted to the side, puzzled by the point she was trying to make. "why would it be hypothetical? you asked meaning you want it. it's okay i can get–"

"baby it's a tiktok trend." she placed a hand on his shoulder.

"to ask if i would peel an orange?" he asked slowly.

"they said if you would peel an orange for your significant other, you would do any mundane task for the–"

"i need you to understand i'd peel the earth for you."

throwing her head back, she let out another laugh. she knew he was joking but his delivery had sent her over – keeping a straight face as he replied the most outlandish way possible.

she knew he would peel the orange for her, she didn't need to ask.

in the three years they had been together, not once had she had to open a canned drink, twist open a cap off a bottled water, plan a single date, open her own doors – hell, she hadn't had to put her own gas in her car since she began dating the king of acts of service.

he had done it without being asked.

since being with him, she had been able to turn her brain off – fulfilling her life long wish of being treated like a princess.

but she also didn't think it would be such a hot topic when she had showed him the tiktok of the orange peel theory.

"i'm not humoring this. i won't." he shook his head for the third time.

"why not?!" y/n stomped.

"fine, you want peeled oranges?" mingyu grumbled, walking over to their fruit bowl, peeling the citrus and placing it in front of her. "here."

looking at the bare fruit, y/n couldn't help but wince. not because of his actions.

but because she hated the sight of the white pith. she hated peeled oranges.

it was far too messy to eat and the texture of the white fuzz surrounding it gave her the heebie-jeebies – shuddering just at the thought of touching it.

"exactly." mingyu grabbed another orange and a knife – slicing it in quarters. "i can't peel it because you like it sliced."

she stood there dumfounded as he left the kitchen chuckling.

he won this round.

"that's dumb." vernon snorted as his girlfriend showed him the third tiktok of someone's boyfriend failing miserably at their significant other's attempts to ask them to peel an orange for them.

"it's also kinda funny." she laughed.

"i'm one step ahead though."

furrowing her brows, she gave him a look from the other side of the couch.

"that," vernon pointed to the small potted plant resting by their window sill. "is gonna be an orange tree."

he had recently been very into assisting her with finding decorations for their new shared home, at times coming home with various plants and art works. she had gotten accustomed to his random home-good shopping sprees, she didn't dare bat an eye when he had come home with a real potted plant the other day. it would just be another addition to their countless ones that he used to brighten up their home.

"you bought an orange tree– plant?" her eyes wide. he never was the green thumb, killing the cactus she had bought for him years ago. she figured she would be the one to tend to this new plant.

"anyone can peel an orange." he shrugged. "i'll move it to the yard when it gets bigger."

Your stomach felt hollow and your sense of smell felt stale despite the sacred aroma of food filled with grease and an extra, extra pinch of salt - the signature stamp of delicious for an all-American diner.

This was your usual post-hangover go-to after a night out, equalizing the alcohol that filled you belly last night with an extra helping of burgers made of brioche bun. Nonetheless, you couldn't help but let your food in front of you grow cold as your friends stuffed their faces and moaned out of satisfaction, even though this was probably their umpteenth time here.

The argument that ensued on the car ride home with Vernon left you with a bitter taste on your tongue - and it lingered. You have known him for the better part of your twenties when you met him through Chan so many years ago. Bright-eyed and a man of few words, he was perhaps the last person you expected to befriend from the dance studio. You were opinionated and particular. Alas, a stupid project brought the two of you together and you couldn't come a part since. Dare you admit it, your confidant, best friend, partner in crime - what have you. Somewhere along the way, the two of you started tiptoeing across the lines of friends and something more.

A performance turned into a hand for a dance at Seungcheol's wedding.

Simple brush of fingers in between class changes in the hallway turned into handholding past midnight, wandering the streets downtown.

Playful jabs and shoves turned into heart-to-hearts that lasted into the morning, over turtle chips and pop because he didn't like alcohol.

A peck on the cheek in the depths of the night when only the dinky LED lightbulb overhead lit the studio turned into a full on makeout session on Soonyoung's bedroom.

So, who could blame you when you asked him for clarity?

You felt a gentle nudge of an elbow into your left side and you turned your head slightly to acknowledge him. You didn't dare to look up for your feared the waterworks might start and you didn't need the entirety of your friends and this diner to know of your issues.

Wordlessly, Vernon held up a single fry to your lips. The tip was stained with white horseradish sauce because you didn't like ketchup and enjoyed the wasabi-like sensation that followed after.

Your eyes flickered to him quickly then back to the fry, still refusing to open your mouth.

He . . . can't be doing things like this after what he said.

He shouldn't.

But he was.

"You should eat, babe," Vernon mumbled. The nickname of affection slipping between his lips so casually and easily. It was second nature to him at this point. You weren't so sure if it was out of affection, however - maybe, it was just habit. He nudged it closer, his movements a little too fast because the sauce touched your top lip.

"Oh shit!" Vernon's eyes widened and he threw the fry down. He quickly reached for a napkin instead and began wiping your lip. "I'm so sorry."

"Vernon," you whimpered, your cheeks feeling warm. You tried to push his hand away to no avail. "You don't need to-"

"What are you guys, exactly?"

Your booth turned silent and all eyes zeroed in on you and Vernon. You were both frozen, the napkin hovering over your lips and your hand still wrapped around the latter's wrist. You gulped, straining your eyes to see who the question came from.

Joshua sat across from Vernon, a burger held up to his mouth, but his lips were pursed, brows crinkled in a similar fashion.

The booth waited for an answer; no one dared moved until they got one. You took this opportunity to move away from Vernon, shoving his hand away, ducking your head, and scooting closer to Jun on your right. Jun shuffled closer to the edge, worried.

Out of the corner of your eye, you could see the look of hurt that crossed Vernon's face when you moved away.

What were you supposed to say? You had the same question and no clear answer.

"Um," Vernon put the napkin down and scratched the back of his head before he looked up innocently at Joshua. "I-is there a wrong answer to this question?"

Joshua let go of his burger, plopping into a wrapper with a quiet 'thwack' as it landed. The grease and ketchup seeped into the paper, not letting it fall away. Joshua sighed and shook his head.

"There is," Joshua answered for you and your heart skipped a beat - not for Joshua, but in anticipation of an answer from Vernon finally.

"Think carefully, Chwe because it's something we've all been wondering for the past year."
