Just rewatched "Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell" and now I want to reread the book. Such magical creation, I'm completely in love with it.

Fun to read, but this #WomensPrizeforFiction winner doesn’t really deserve it. The voice that #SusannaClarke gave to #Piranesi wasn’t very convincing. https://www.instagram.com/p/CoASrUJBA-x/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

“Perhaps that is what it is like being with other people. Perhaps even people you like and admire immensely can make you see the World in ways you would rather not.” I love going into a book with very little idea of the plot. And “Piranesi” unfolds so slowly and mysteriously that I was half way through the book and still had very little idea what was going on. But the world-building by Susanna Clarke is impeccable. Just like with Erin Morgenstern’s books, I could effortlessly picture myself in the labyrinth described. Infinite rooms, endless corridors, walls lined with thousands of statues, each one different. An ocean lapping into the rooms, stars shining through windows. This tiny book felt epic in scope. Piranesi is the narrator and sole inhabitant of the House. He very much reminded me of Auri from Patrick Rothfuss’ The Slow Regard of Silent Things. Innocent, accepting, calm and composed, at times oblivious, and always kind. Thank you again to @annieandherchapters for kindly sending me this. It absolutely lived up to the hype and I’m excited to read more of Clarke’s work knowing this is the treat that awaits. . . . . . #bookstagram #booklovers #booksbooksbooks #bookstagramza #southafricanreaders #bookstagrammer #bookstagramsouthafrica #readersofinstagram #sareaders #literaryfiction #igreads #bookheaven #readerofinstagram #bookish #booksonbooksonbooks #belletristbabes #read #nextread #susannaclarke #piranesi #bloomsbury “The World feels Complete and Whole, and I, its Child, fit into it seamlessly. 》𝕄𝕒𝕣𝕔𝕙 𝕨𝕣𝕒𝕡 𝕦𝕡 QOTD 》What was your most thought-provoking read this month? So this was a fun reading month for me. Only one disappointment & a mini-panic-inducing cliffy, but good, stimulating reads overall. I just got through Susanna Clarke’s Piranesi & my mind is split in the best ways. This book kept me thinking throughout—sifting possible literary & philosophic references (e.g., Narnia & Plato’s allegory of the cave & augury), even attempting the method of loci & constructing a kind of mind palace from Piranesi’s journal entries—taking a leaf out of Piranesi’s book, a reading journal is probably a good idea for this one. My favorite reference might be the title of the book itself: Piranesi, an allusion to the 18th-century Italian artist Giovanni Battista Piranesi, who produced a collection of prints entitled Carceri d'invenzione or Imaginary Prisons (see next slides), a series depicting subterranean labyrinthine capricci. Quick note: Potential spoilers ahead. There’s one question that gnaws at me: does the protag actually “remember everything,” through all the various versions of himself & does the evidence lie within the confines of the House? This leads me to other questions regarding the construction of the House, but those are dangerous rabbit holes. xo Noelani tl;dr: cont. in comments 》 March books 》 A Fisherman of the Inland Sea by Ursula K. 📓The Book Eaters
Gorgeous #bookpost from a few days ago.
✍️Written by the amazing @sunyidean
🖨Out by @harpercollinsuk (UK version) and by @torbooks(US version)
🎬Plot (from the publisher)  "A gorgeous new #fantasy#horror – a book about stories and fairy tales with #family and #love at its dark heart… Perfect for fans of #NeilGaiman, #SusannaClarke, and #LettheRightOneIn Hidden across #England and #Scotland live six old #BookEater families. The last of their lines, they exist on the fringes of society and subsist on a diet of stories and #legends. Children are rare and their numbers have dwindled, so when Devon Fairweather’s second child is born a dreaded Mind Eater – a perversion of her own kind, who consumes not stories but the minds and souls of humans – she flees before he can be turned into a weapon for the family… or worse. Living among humans and finding prey for her son, Devon seeks a cure for his hunger. But time is running out – for her family want her back, and with every soul her son consumes he loses a little more of himself… This is a story of escape, a savage mother’s devotion and a #queer love that will electrify readers looking for something #beguiling, #thrilling , #strange and new."
Me, personally I am OBSESSED with the plot and the idea behind the book. In love.

Also, today is my birthday and I was curious when else was born on this day here are the results:
We have the amazing Ray Bradbury ( I mostly know him through his book Fahrenheit 451 a dystopian novel where banned books get burned by firemen. The protagonist is a fireman himself until he decides that he doesn't want to do this anymore and designates his life into saving and preserving literature.
We also have Claude Debussy 👏 I don't think I need to introduce him.
Dorothy Parker who was was an American poet, writer, critic, and satirist based in New York; she was best known for her wit, wisecracks, and eye for 20th-century urban foibles. ✍️

How are you all doing?
I’ve still not read this beauty but it’s definitely near the top of my TBR. I’m just craving short reads right now. Lockdown 2 has started and we’re facing a long few weeks. I just don’t have it in me to start something too heavy right now. That’s why Agatha Christie was the perfect choice for last month.
I’m not one of those people who ever claimed that 2020 would be “my year” but I’d expected more than this. I’m trying to take comfort in the fact that I’ve read more than I normally would have done. Still not enough to balance my book buying habit though! I doubt I’ll ever read that quickly.

Finished Piranesi in two days. Loved it! It was nothing like Jonathan Strange & Nr. Norrell but it was magical in its own way. The story is much more succinct here as it's only 245 pages. This is what I had hoped The Starless Sea would be. Strange, beautiful, confusing & mysterious. The story is about a simple good man who lives in a house that is its own world with seas, statues, and clouds on different floors. He is regularly visited by "The Other" who calls him Piranesi, though that's not his name, & asks him to help in his research for A Great & Secret Knowledge. This is the starting point of the story and the rest will unravel as you read it. Enjoy! * #funaekreads #funaekbooks #instabooks #instareads #bookreview #piranesi #susannaclarke https://www.instagram.com/p/CFNbaNmgnMr/?igshid=596u6digtksi

I’m not a real witch yet but I have Tarot cards, some beautiful stones and am going to read “Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell” this year (as well as practise some magic spells 🪄 ). In preparation for this I’ve read a cute book of stories by Susanna Clarke about witches🧙‍♀️, magicians🧙🏽‍♂️, and lots of faeries🧚‍♂️. So…I think Susanna Clarke must be made a Dame and be officially recognized as the most prominent modern English writer of books about magic 🧐. #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #instabook #instabookstagram #susannaclarke #booksaboutmagic #modernwitch #theladiesofgraceadieu #shortstorycollection #fairytale (at Tallinn, Estonia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZP2d7DLV8N/?utm_medium=tumblr
