Surgery tomorrow!
The day is finally here. I’m anxious and nervous… but what else is new? lol. I’ve already talked about it a lot this past month so instead, I’m going to keep this post short so I can go relax (or try to).
Today I went for a 8km walk/slog/jog/run. It felt good other than the neck and upper back pain. I really hope and pray this surgery is going to improve that.
On the way home I stopped to get a small decaf latte and a little piece of lemon cake. The weather was cool and cloudy so I sat outside. Felt nice and refreshing after the heat wave we’ve been having.
I’ve got everything ready to go in my bag for the hospital. Sheets are washed and I’ll have to use that special soap sponge (chlorhexidine) to shower with tonight and tomorrow morning.
I had a early, bland dinner and I’m going to focus on hydrating. Tonight, Ella and I are going to watch a stand up comedy on Netflix. Then, I’ll be listening to a meditation on YouTube and hopefully hitting the hay early. Have a great week, everyone! Cheers!

Yesterday was my birthday!
In the past I typically love celebrating my birthday! That normally involves either game nights with friends or a fun trip. Last year and now this year due to health issues those things have been difficult to do.. Last year I was fresh out of surgery and this year I'm just a few days away from a major surgery. Because I can't do much to celebrate I figured I would share my wishlist for surgery recovery items. Since I have fibromyalgia I need all the recovery help I can get! I'm so ready for the surgery but I also know that recovery is going to be rough!
The wishlist link is here
https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/21DWNBKK7SDHD?ref_=wl_share
And if you don't want to use Amazon, my PayPal and Venmo are both @SelinaMariaA and CashApp is $SelinaMAngotti
The reason for the surgery is that after having reoccurring blood clots we discovered that I have Venous Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (vTOS). So to allow my veins to work properly I'm having decompression surgery, which will be removing my first rib on the problem side and possibly removing muscle, and I will probably need vein repair too. It's been hard dealing with this, my arm and shoulder has been just getting worse and worse. I'm so thankful that my hematologist recognized it for what it is!

Surgery prep for kidney donors
The day before:
Follow whatever diet your doctor ordered for this day; a clear liquid diet is common. Remember to get a source of calories and electrolytes, like juice or sports drinks.
Make sure you have someone to drive you to and from the hospital, and someone to act as a caregiver for the first couple days after you're discharged.
If you get a cold, flu, or any other illness, let the medical team know! A surgery can be rescheduled, but if you were to get the transplant recipient sick (or make yourself more ill), that could get bad.
Consider going to bed early if your surgery is scheduled for early morning.
Suggested things to bring to the hospital:
Person to drive you to and from hospital
Smartphone and charger
Light reading material (stuff you don't need to concentrate on)
Pen and notepad
Folder for holding paperwork
Photo ID
Pajamas or a nice robe; the latter is nice for not having to bend over
Toothbrush, toothpaste, floss
Chapstick or moisturizer, if needed
A card listing any dietary restrictions or allergies you have
Any meds that you need to regularly take
Earplugs and/or sleeping mask
Fidget toys
Bag to hold your stuff
A full bladder - you may have to give a urine sample before the operation. Consider drinking extra water the night before.
Do NOT bring:
Anything expensive or hard to replace (e.g. a wedding ring)
Work material
Expect to spend most of your time either in the waiting room before surgery, or half-asleep in the hospital bed afterward. If you're anxious leading up to the surgery, ask the nurses if they can give you something to calm your nerves. After the surgery, you'll probably feel too tired to be nervous.
Think about what would help you feel comfortable and get your needs met. If words are hard for you, you might bring cards with useful sentences like "I'm in pain," or "I need water" on them. If you're autistic, objects for stimming or to block out bad sensations may be useful.
Expect a little bit of embarrassment. A nurse or tech may have to help you get dressed, go to the bathroom, or move you. You might vomit or wet your bedsheets at some point. You may be crankier than usual, or a little loopy while coming out of anesthesia. All of this is normal in a hospital, and the staff won't judge you for it.
Don't hesitate to use the "call" button if you need something! The staff would much rather you told them than for you to sit there feeling bad.

Prior to surgery, it is important to get as much nutrition into you as possible, to ensure your body has everything it needs to heal and recover. 🤕
Today I am enjoying a smoothie made of mango, passionfruit, pineapple and apple preservative-free-juice blended with frozen blackberries, cherries and blackcurrants!! 🍍🍏🍒
A whopping combination of seven fruits in one sitting! Also omg it is so yum 😝

Man, I hate the bus.
I’ve written why I don’t drive in a few previous posts. I should bookmark it and link it every time I complain about taking transit so anyone who is new to this blog and reading it isn’t wondering “Why the heck isn’t this middle-aged woman driving?. lol.
*sigh*
Okay. Here’s why I don’t drive - in a very small nutshell: 1.) Circumstances (money, mental health, medications). 2.) Fear (I was in a very bad accident when I was young and have terrible anxiety when I drive). 3.) Now, I can’t shoulder check due to my neck (so I’m not allowed to drive, regardless.)
So I found out I have mild sleep apnea. It’s not bad enough where the specialist thinks I’d benefit from a CPAP. That being said, he says I’m a “complicated case” (of course I am) and he’s going to send me in for further testing. One thing that stuck out in my results is that my carbon dioxide levels went way up while I was in REM. This may be why I wake up with headaches and severe brain fog.
Anyway, I travelled all that way on a stinky bus so I can have a 4 minute appointment with no answers. lol. Which is probably my fault because I should have just requested a phone call. Oh well. Live and learn.
Ella and I otherwise had a nice day out together. We went to the game store and got a slice of pizza. I also picked up a few things for my surgery including chlorhexidine sponges. Now I’m home and laying on a heating pad. I had to take a pain pill. Going to make myself a cup of tea. I picked up more decaf chai while I was out.

What kind of nicknames do you think Dave would call you? I just want me to praise me so bad ahhhhh
ooo i love this question!! so, i think this would change depending on his age. in his youth he's using typical ones like "baby", "babe", but as he gets older he starts using more tender ones, like "sweetheart". i think "honey" or "hun" is a constant one though!! i absolutely love using this nickname in my writings for him, it just seems the most like him, you know?
also!! for my bad boy! dave lovers, he definitely calls you cute little names like "pretty girl", "sweetness", "sweetheart", etc.
