one of the (many) things bugging me about the elves is they act too human. they slump, lean against things move like people, they don’t have the otherworldly ethereal vibe they should

A Headcanon For Each Member of Thorin’s Company
Mini post between full request posts! Just felt like jotting these down hehe
✧ Balin knows a little bit of Elvish, but never lets on to that because, quite simply, it’s infinitely funnier not to. What fun would it be letting the elves shit talk him if they knew he picked up on bits of it?
✧ Dwalin’s dream wife is someone super soft and sweet. He’d die before he admits it, but he loves the idea of being the hero for his princess even if he acts like it’s an inconvenience.
✧ Some of it is natural, too, hardening from many of life’s experiences, but part of why Thorin puts on such a tough act is because he actually feels really awkward in conversations. For example, thus man dwarf cannot flirt to save his life.
✧ Oin hates being dismissed because of his hearing, but also? It can so be used to his advantage. The younger ones are squabbling over something stupid and trying to bring him i to it? Oops, sorry lads, can’t hear ya.
✧ Gloin is the proudest father. He can barely go a few minutes without busting out his locket’s picture of Gimli or telling a story about him…or both! Practically ready to throw hands with Bombur, who isn’t even competitive, on who has the coolest son.
✧ Bifur was quite the heartbreaker back in his heyday. He’s still a great flirt, but less people can understand him now so his lines often go unnoticed.
✧ Bofur quietly envies his brother’s family. He may not want fourteen kids or anything, but being around the wee ones warms his heart and he especially lives the idea of having a little girl someday if Mahal so blesses him.
✧ I of course adore the fanon/cast canon that Bombur has a huge family, but also? By dwarf standards his wife is super hot, so the others may make fun of him, but can’t deny that he scores!
✧ Dori is a way better cook than he seems like he is. The role tends to get passed to Bombur as he loves it the most, but since he grew up taking care of his brothers Dori knows his way around the kitchen!
✧ Nori loves cats. If he sees a stray in a village he offers it food and coaxes it over. The others marvel at how much the creatures love him, too, like some sort of instinctive trust.
✧ The others talk big about the ravishing women they’ve seen and he tries to keep up, but Ori doesn’t really actually get it. That’s how he realizes that, even though there isn’t such a word for it, he is demisexual. He also is more attracted to human women, they just seem softer and sweeter to him.
✧ Part of the reason Fili carries so many blades is because he enjoys crafting them. It’s a skill he learned from his uncle Thorin, standing at his side and helping before taking up the craft himself.
✧ Fili was the one who defended Kili from derision by other young dwarves when he chose to learn archery, an unusual form of combat in their culture. From then on, Kili vowed to become stronger and faster so he could defend those he loves, too.
✧ Bilbo bonds with Ori over sewing and knitting, smiling as he learns he has company because quite frankly he never thought a dwarf would know such arts, let alone join him as they teach each other.

HOT TAKE TOURNAMENT!

Submission 493
Sophie Foster from Keeper of the Lost Cities is a terrible protagonist.
I cannot think of any likeable qualities that Sophie has. She also has little to no flaws, and the ‘flaws’ that she DOES have don’t impact the story in any way, and they’re only played off for laughs and are, essentially, meaningless. Additionally, all the fucking characters are either in love with her, like her, or are evil. I hate it.
Spoiler territory after this.
At this point in the series, Sophie has FIVE FUCKINF ABILITIES (where most characters only have one, or maybe two if they’re lucky). She is honestly…so fucking stupid. Like, it’s not even funny at this point. Not only has she burnt down a storehouse with enough evidence to basically convict all of the bad guys, but she also tries to JUSTIFY her actions, saying that she was burning all their supplies (while also burning the things her organization needed). She’s also said to be clumsy throughout the series, but the SECOND she needs to use a knife, bam; she’s amazing at it, and has perfect fucking aim. Also, all of the guys are in love with her.
All of them.
I also find it annoying how she always goes on and on about how she has a different view on the world, since she was raised by humans or whatever (she lives in a world with elves), but she actively avoids and/or tries to sympathize with elves that have no ability, making them feel worse in the process. She has no idea what it’s like to feel powerless in a world where you’re surrounded by power, and I fucking hate that about her.
Finally, she decided that even though her friend was fucking going to die/being tortured/black swan secrets were going to be leaked/being forced to betray all of his friends, it was more important to get a hot date instead.
My hate for Sophie Elizabeth Foster is a burning, inferno of passion. Hate does not even describe it.
Propaganda is always encouraged!
And remember to reblog your favourite polls for exposure!

Isn’t Baldurs Gate a multicultural city?
I physically cannot simply answer a question, I blame my teachers for teaching me to write essays.
In the sense that it has multiple minority cultures living in it, yes, but it's a human dominated city just like the remaining 99% of Toril (slight hyperbole, but still). Faerûn's population ratio is such that 9 in every 10 people on the continent are human, with the remaining 1 in that ten being any of several other races - most of whom live in their own countries (Elves in Evereska, the High Forest and Evermeet (plus a few smaller out of the way settlements). Dwarves in the Great Rift and the mountains. Halflings mostly in Luiren, etc) "...the question has been asked by some that when this race finally gets all the quirks out of its system and gets moving, will there be any room left for the other races of the Realms?" - Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting (Revised)
Humans kind of just push you out, take over and build their stuff all over everything. Elves specifically refer to them as "the many handed curse", because there's just so many of them, disunited, all with so many conflicting aims and actions that they fight and bring destruction everywhere they go. The other non-humans, also kind of annoyed by humans, have adopted this name for them too.
Hell, even the words for non-humans, "humanoid" and "demihuman", are human-centric. Like-a-human, human-ish, almost human.
Baldurs gate is a city founded by humans, with a dominant human population, whose customs and laws are from human culture. Humans are/were the norm and the default.
Astarion was born in the time frame where elves and demihumans were not that common. Silverymoon is considered unusual as the most metropolitan cities in existence, and its population was still 41% human with the remaining percentage being everyone else. Waterdeep, massive cosmopolitan city and one of the most important trading cities? 64% human. In the original games you'll notice that in cities like Baldur's Gate and Athkatla non-human citizens are rare enough that they stand out when you spot them (although the latter has a significant halfling and gnome minority).
Slightly off topic to babble about the stupid elf (affectionate) some more:
By the time Astarion was born, the elves were prepared to leave on the Retreat - a summons for elves to totally abandon the world for what remained of the elven homelands (and Evermeet) which from the elven understanding of time was basically happening next week. As a people, elves are not keen to mingle with human society, which they view as dangerous, so while it is possible for his family to have integrated with human nobility I do find it odd, and would say that he was nouveau-riche at best. He makes an offhand reference to Evereska at one point, and I would assume his family is from there.
(I did say I was sceptical, not that it's impossible - Rule of thumb for high elves: moon elves putting down roots like that would be unusual because they're sort of semi-nomadic outside of elven lands, even though they could be sticking around for a human generation, they'd be new money mingling with old money; sun elves would sooner die then subject themselves to human society; star elves weren't currently on Toril due to not wanting to be invaded by human armies, and left long before Astarion was born and wouldn't be back until a while after his death).
The Szarrs I can handwave, considering there's some strongly implied human ancestry what with the Kara-turan signet ring. Cazador just has more elven genetics than human.

I say it again because I like repeating myself.
Evil!Albus doesn't make sense. Even worse, it actively destroys HP's story.
If Albus wanted... Idk, to kill Harry? He would have done it.
If he wanted control of UK he would have entered in politics.
If he wanted to destroy magic world's traditions he would have done it, and instead he's one of the most powerful and knowledgeable wizard alive, and he deeply respect magic culture.
If he wanted muggles to conquer the magic world, he would have helped them to.
If he wanted to rule muggles, he would have allied to his husband.
Like, I feel like not even writers who write bashing fics with evil!Albus know what they want him to do. They just want a cardboard villain for LV to destroy, no question asked, not answers given.
And that's a damn shame. Because LV and Albus have such an interesting relationship. Like, LV hates Albus, but he also respects him because he respects strength (he only understand brute force?).
Albus admits that Tom was the best student ever in Hogwarts, and he still doesn't want to kill him.
And the Phoenix core! Albus' Phoenix.
Also, they are both incredibly powerful half-blood in a world where pure bloods (more often than not inbred and variously ill and cruel) hold political and financial power and despise the not-pure ones . And still, against all the odds, against all the prejudice, Albus and Tom rose to highs no one wouldn't have ever believed.
So much alike. But no matter, it's their choices to be dramatically different.
And Albus intimately knows Tom. He knows how his incredible but twisted mind works. He knows that under his supervillain title, his edgy cult, his monstrous mask he's still the hurt angry manipulative boy who enjoyed hurting people. Who was rejected and abandoned by everyone, who reacted to suffering with violence, unable to heal himself. Who hated the world enough to be willing to see it destroyed. Who killed without an ounce of remorse, because human life is nothing for him. Who didn't stand for any ideals, just his power.
I really would like to praise how well Albus anticipated Tom's moves and manipulated him, and in the end defeated him from the grave.
1- he knew Tom was not dead, he knew he would have tried to kill Harry as soon as possible. So he protected Harry with the only magic Tom didn't disturb himself to learn. And it worked, as confirmed by LV himself in GoF.
2- he knew Tom wouldn't have been able to resist the call of the philosopher's stone and Harry in Hogwarts. He also needed LV to see the devastating effects of Lily's protection. He needed Harry to defeat him. Everything in order to push LV to desire Harry's blood for his great resurrection. It worked.
3- as he thought, LV went to insane lengths to use Harry's blood. And this was the only way possible for Harry to live. He needed to die for the horcrux to get destroyed. But lily's protection, now living in LV too, would have protected Harry even more formidably. Harry couldn't die until LV was alive. What a genius move!! The only way to save Harry, damned by the prophecy, and to defeat LV.
4- Tom was obsessed with fate, destiny. He truly thought he was chosen by higher forces to rule. And so Albus knew he would have wasted many energies to hear the damn prophecy. And LV did. And in doing so he made stupid mistakes such as appearing personally in the Ministry. It was stronger than his rationality (already compromised by his edgelord lifestyle).
5- he accurately guessed the identity and the location of most horcruxes.
6- he anticipated LV's plans: allying himself with creatures despised by Wizards. Because LV, in spite of his so-called ideology, doesn't really care who you are, just if you can be useful to him.
7- he knew well the neuroses and the twisted way of thinking of LV. He knew he wouldn't have researched on Lily's love sacrifice to better understand the implications of his rituals. He knew he wouldn't have reflected on domestic elves' unique magic. And this was his downfall.
8- in the end, everything worked out. Harry was saved. LV got defeated (mostly by his prevedibile mistakes).
I think Albus' genius in dealing with LV and still saving Harry is not recognized. Like, never? When it's one of my fave things in the series.
When Albus cries after Sirius' death? He admits his mistake: loving Harry. Because if he hadn't loved Harry, he would have killed him. One horcrux less. But he couldn't, he didn't. And he was right.
When LV possesses Harry and tries to tempt Albus to kill him? Foreshadowing. This was the path Albus was tempted (supposed?) To take. One life to save thousands. But he resisted temptation, and he was right in doing so.
Awesome. Inspiring. Such a great character. Such a great foil to LV. How I wish I could meet real Albus more in fics!!! He would enrich immensely Tomarry stories.
And not let me start on GGAD. What a great addiction to him being a foil to LV. The fact that GGAD and tomarry are not often paired together is a betrayal.
Last but not least: he never kills on screen. The implication is that he never killed. Fantastic!!! In fantasy story often the general idea is that a Real Hero/Man Kills. Albus doesn't, and he teaches Harry not to do it. And they still win.
Albus was an internationally renowned, admired, feared wizard. Tom was a genius, but he mostly funded his fame on his ability to murder people. Wow. Like, Tom was clearly able to do other things, not just murder and torture. He invented the incredible magic that allows you to bloody fly. But not, almost all his fame is funded on "great but terrible" things like murdering and torturing people. What a waste.
I think Albus pitied this broken beautiful cruel brilliant boy. And he was right.

okay heres a list of reasons why regulily makes sense bc i love them so much but every time i talk abt them on any platform other than tumblr ppl are like “ew, regulily is gross” like yall just dont get them the way i do 😤
we know that regulus wasnt like the rest of his family. most purebloods think of house elves as vermin, below even the lowest of wizards, but regulus was kind to them, kinder than he was to most other wizards. he was good at masking to put on that pureblood facade, though, but lily, well, she could see right through it. she was, afterall, “an uncommonly kind person with a habit of seeing the best in others, even when they could not see it themselves”
do yall seriously think that lily evans would have been put off by regulus’ standoffish slytherin demeanor? the woman was best friends with the most standoffish slytherin to ever slytherin. she was one of the few gryffindors who actively befriended slytherins and she likely would have defended regulus against sirius if he ever spoke badly about him in her vicinity, even if they werent friends. thats just the kind of person she is (and we love her all the better for it)
regulus and lily both had complicated relationships with their siblings. both of them were the younger sibling, and both of them were also the sibling preferred by their parents. regulus would understand the grief lily felt over the loss of her close relationship with petunia and lily would understand the betrayed bitterness regulus felt over sirius being happier without him in a way that no one else could. theyd see each other more deeply than anyone else
now ive seen some people (mostly og marauders fans that dislike regulus) say that it makes no sense bc they were on opposite sides of the war at first, but regulus is one of the few death eaters we know of that canonically defected. he literally sacrificed himself trying to stop voldemort, knowing that he would die but accepting it on the off chance that his efforts would eventually help end the war. to act like he was evil is just stupid
and lastly, ive seen some version of “regulily makes no sense! regulus and lily are both gay!” repeated ad nauseam and, well, my question to you is… why cant they be gay together? why limit yourself to the canon cishet normativity when you can have them be bi4bi, or t4t, or nonbinary lesbians, or any other queer relationship you can imagine? like, my personal fav regulily dynamic is lesbian lily and trans girl reg. the options are literally endless. go wild! live out your gay dreams to your hearts content! no one is stopping you!

Annabeth Chase vs Hermione Granger (this is half serious pls do not get upset at this)
We don’t even have to have the Percy vs Harry argument because we, for the most part all agree, that Percy Jackson wipes the FLOOR with Harry “private school” Potter, however, I’ve seen a lot of people compare Annabeth and Hermione and I wanna look more into that, I am a die hard Hermione AND Annabeth fan so ZERO ill will shall be spoke of either of them(unless need be)
I could point out how their general personalities are different but I’m going to start with their trios, starting with, Grover and Percy would NEVER treat Annabeth the way, that Ron and Harry treat Hermione, let me explain,
If Annabeth were to try to dismantle an unjust system built on the mistreatment of house elves, Percy and Grover would’ve IMMEDIATELY been on board, along with the fact that they’d praise her for it. When Hermione was trying to dismantle the way house elves were treated and tried to fix it, Ron and Harry just kinda went “You’re trying to change an unjust system that treats house elves as sub servant?? Well NERD NERD, it’s this way for a reason NERD, your stupid puke badges are DUMB” obviously I’m paraphrasing and being slightly dramatic, but that was basically it.
Before I get yelled at, yes, Hermione had her flaws, yes, Hermione sometimes sucked, HOWEVER, Ron and Harry treated her like dog shit sometimes, that’s not a controversial take or me hating on either Ron or Harry, that’s just canon. You could argue that Percy and or Grover treated Annabeth bad sometimes, but to counter that, no??? They had spats, yeah, sure, WHO doesn’t but NOT to the extent that Ron and Harry were literally ignoring her for, (checks my notes) telling McGonagall about the wizard equivalent of a Ferrari that Harry received with zero clue who it was from, while a serial killer was running loose.
Romione vs Percabeth, Percabeth OBVIOUSLY wins, however, I like Romione so I will be pointing out the positives in it as well as the negatives, while I’ve seen people argue that Romione is unhealthy or toxic(though they’re often dramione shippers??? The call is coming from inside the house) I’d however disagree, Hermione and Ron had a build up, and, by the end of the series(BOOK not movie) they were like THE most compatible of Hermione’s love interests, excluding maybe Viktor, they’re not unhealthy nor were they toxic, all of the arguments and everything that we saw and or read was setting it up, Ron and Hermione, objectively are the most compatible of BOTH of their other love interests, that’s not to say that they’re the healthiest ever, but I’d say their relationship is fairly healthy.
Percabeth is everything to me, and one of the healthiest written relationships I think I’ve ever seen, so, no deep diving into it, here I don’t think.
Anyways, moving on, the “Hermione vs Annabeth” or “Annabeth would totally win against Hermione” debate, I have reached a conclusive consensus,
They wouldn’t fight.
They just wouldn’t, sure, put them in a fight to the death and Annabeth Chase is winning, but still, they just wouldn’t fight.

[Dreamling Week Day 2: Dragons] A New Beginning
This is a The Hobbit AU where Dream is Smaug and Hob is Bilbo. I hope you like it! 🖤
CW: angst (grief, depression, suicide ideation) with a happy ending
Dream basks in the morning sunlight, pipe to his lips, looking just like any other hobbit smoking an Old Toby. Unlike other hobbits, however, his pipe-weed remains unlit. He's really just breathing from his dragon lungs and exhaling smoke from his mouth or nostrils.
On the other side of the garden, Hob is patiently teaching Daniel how to water the plants so they receive just the right amount that they need. His low voice and occasional chuckles, as well as Daniel's frustrated little hmph!s and wondrous little ooh!s serve as a balm to Dream's scarred soul.
He has never expected this to be his life.
Only a year ago, he had been a bitter old dragon, done mourning his wife and son for a hundred years but unable to move on. He didn't know what else to do in his life except wait to die in the place where their murderers lived, surrounded by their riches that mean absolutely nothing to him.
The last thing he expected to come into his life was a thief that brought sunshine with him. And the last thing he expected the thief to do was to sit with him and talk about the world outside the mountain.
And the way that Hob, the little hobbit thief, talked about the joys of food, the journey from the Shire to Erebor, the smell of the changing seasons...
Dream had gotten so used to the awful feeling inside him that he never realized he had been starving. Not just for food, but also for stories. For companionship. For someone to look upon his true form and not feel an ounce of fear.
When Hob the hobbit ("Stupid nickname, yes, I know," Hob had said, eyes crinkling in amusement), with his sunny smile and carefree manner, opened his small satchel and offered Dream some nuts and dried fruit from his trail mix because he was worried that Dream was hungry, it was when Dream realized that the creature in front of him was the rarest and most precious gem of all.
Hob barely had to convince Dream to leave, because Dream himself wanted to leave with him. ("Relocate," Hob insisted.) Hob was, perhaps, the only one who could have done such a task without inciting violence of any kind.
Hob walked out of the mountain accompanied by a dragon in the guise of an elf. And while Dream could have transformed himself into a dwarf, a human, or a hobbit, transforming into an elf felt like he was giving a proper farewell to his wife and son, who were elves.
The entire company was angered by the presence of an elf in their home, and some of them even drew their weapons when Hob explained that, "No, he is the dragon, and he's willing to leave."
Dream could have easily reduced the dwarves to ashes, but Hob had placed himself firmly between the dwarves and Dream, with his back turned to Dream. Ready to defend him and drawing his own blade.
Dream could not help but be more enamored of him. Being a dragon means not needing to be protected by anyone. But that this small being would be brave enough to face more than ten dwarves if it comes to it just to protect Dream...
Dream is not stupid enough to let such a treasure go. He made sure Thorin Oakenshield knows the debt he owes to Hob. Made sure Hob was paid fairly for his services right then and there. He reminds them that he is still a dragon, even if he is currently wearing an elven face.
Thankfully, and despite Thorin's early stage gold sickness, the rest of the company is sensible and honorable enough to pay Hob for his service.
Hob went home with Dream, and a wagonful of treasure. They did not leave until Dream himself was satisfied that the payment is indeed just. And one knows never to cheat a dragon.
The return journey was pleasant. Surprisingly so. With Hob for company, it was like Dream was still a young dragonling with fresh eyes to see the world.
Let the dwarves reclaim 'their' mountain that had once been Dream's in the dawn of the world. Let them squabble amongst themselves and politick and Thorin grow mad with gold sickness--it doesn't matter much to Dream anymore.
He has taken the one truly precious thing from the mountain. And no, not the Arkenstone.
The hobbit thief.
"Dada!"
Dream looks to the side where Daniel is holding up a clump of weeds with tiny flower buds. He graciously accepts the bouquet and lets Daniel climb up to his lap and babble while pointing at the clouds.
"I think he's had enough of gardening," Hob says and sits beside him, giving him a kiss on the cheek. "Hello, love."
Love.
A thing he has not felt since Calliope and Orpheus. An endearment he has not been called for more than a hundred years. An emotion he had felt growing stronger in his chest ever since Hob came into his life.
Dream, the dragon, living with his new family in the Shire, where there is also neighborhood drama and petty thievery. (No one steals from Hob anymore. Not since Dream reclaimed every single thing that had been stolen from Hob's house while he had been away on his adventure to Erebor, including a wooden button that had belonged to Hob's grandmother.)
Those aside, the Shire is a peaceful, slow-paced kind of place where every day feels like a vacation. There are feasts, and birthday parties, and sometimes Gandalf visits and spoils the hobbit children with a firework show.
(Dream thinks the fireworks are pretty quaint, but follow Hob's instruction to stay quiet about his opinion on the matter.)
But most of all, The Shire is a place where Hob loves to live, where he thrives, and where their family can live and grow in peace, away from all the wars waged by other races against each other.
And so Dream considers this place his home too.
"Hello, Hob," Dream says. He wraps an arm around him, the one holding the still unlit pipe, the one not holding their son and the bouquet of weeds, and gives him a proper kiss on the lips. This morning, Hob tastes of honey on pancakes, and ginger lemon tea. Dream knows he himself taste of fire, but Hob insists that all he tastes is freedom and adventure. Hob is smiling when they part, and is looking at Dream like he still cannot believe he's real. It's flattering. Dream loves his husband so much. "Shall we prepare second breakfast?"
--
Hob does not know it yet, but being mated to Dream would ensure that he (and their children) would live long lives. Dream doesn't think that Hob would hate him for his sudden near-immortality since, between the two of them, Hob is the more enthusiastic one about being alive. Dream is just happy to re-experience life as Hob sees it. They go on to have many adventures in the future, accompanied by their half a dozen children.

Roll for Initiative
My love, your mind!!!!!! Incredible concept, 10000/10, no notes. Thank you so much for sharing this with me 💖 likes, comments, and reblogs are always appreciated 🥰
Eddie Munson x Femme! Reader
Requests are open!
Warnings: Language, my D&D knowledge is severely lacking, it's a little horny but SFW, only around 600 words, mostly just angst (but I could be convinced to write a second part if people are interested 🥺)
He's usually better than this.
Nobody has thrown him off his game before—Eddie's got a whole arsenal of moves when he wants to pull (normally starting and ending with "hey, you wanna smoke?")—but you've got him bumbling and shaking, stuttering over his words like a fucking virgin on prom night.
And it's not just because you're pretty—although you are. Chewing on your bottom lip, looking wide-eyed down at the table, then glancing up at him through your lashes. It's not just because you're smart, or nice to him, or willing to listen when he rambles about his new campaign, or really, really fucking pretty.
It's not.
"So now I . . ." you glance at him, hand hovering over the little pile of dice in front of you on his kitchen counter.
He clears his throat. "Uh, roll for initiative."
"Right, and that's with the . . ."
"The D20." He reaches for it because it's easier than staring at you, something to think about besides how close he is and how easy it should be for him to slip an arm around the back of your chair.
But you're doing the same, and when the tips of your fingers brush against his own, he's got the electric spark in his bones—like it's actually painful for him to touch you and not in the way he wants—until he has to jump away.
Fuck. The dice scatter, chittering off the table and onto the floor, landing among the crumbs and the few wrappers he couldn't toss in the trash before your arrival.
"God, shit, I'm sorry," he has to laugh because otherwise he'll get up and run, just bolt from the fucking table and this mess and the stupid part of him that ever thought it would be a good idea to try and spend any time alone with you.
You just smile, and you're touching him again, hand resting lightly on his upper arm this time. He wishes he'd changed out of his hellfire shirt before this so he could feel your skin against his and not through his stupid sleeve.
"Don't worry about it, I got it."
Then he watches you slip to your knees—skirt riding up around your thighs as it clings to the seat—before you dive under the table.
God, his eyes actually roll back in his head, craning his neck to peer at you on your hands and knees, his own sweaty palms clinging to his denim-covered legs.
There's the swell of your ass—better than it's ever looked in his imagination—and he wonders what you'd do if he reached out, cupping your warm flesh of your thigh and sliding higher, his fingers just slipping under the edge of the pretty pink silk that covers the rest of you.
He thinks about joining you under the table, wonders if the cheap poly-laminate shelter would make him brave, and he'd be able to take your face in his palms and say something that would impress you, something that sounded clever and funny because he loves the way his lungs burn whenever he manages to make you laugh.
Maybe you'd let him kiss you.
It's stupid. And phony. Just another fantasy—sitting here and staring at the game board full of elves and wizards and dire wolves, just as real as any world where you'd actually think about going out with a freak like him.
You pop back out from under the table, holding out the dice in your hand.
"It rolled a 15. Does that count?"
He smiles, laughing a little despite the hollow feeling in his chest. "Only if it lands on the table."
You pretend to pout, sliding back into the chair, a little closer than it was before, the ripped knee in his jeans brushing against your thigh. He shifts an inch the other direction until the contact is lost.
"Okay, so now I roll for initiative?"
Eddie rests his head in his palm, nodding in response and trying to hide the hurt in his eyes.
Like he said. Fantasy.

Here’s my theory on Loki’s “death” in The Dark World.
1. First, it’s not possible to create an illusion directly involving another person without their cooperation.
When Loki created the illusion that he’d cut off Thor’s arm, Thor was playing along. It was part of their plan to fool the Dark Elves, and it worked because Thor wasn’t lifting Mjolnir with that hand, or throwing it, or doing something else that would break the illusion or show it to be false.
So, when we see Loki get stabbed through the chest by The Cursed baddie, he really got stabbed. In the chest. The Cursed would not have collaborated with Loki to fake his death; they were in a real life-and-death struggle to kill each other.
Tumblr media
2. Second, when Loki was dying in Thor’s arms, we saw something we’ve never seen before; his face mottled and turned grey.
We’ve seen a lot of Jotun and Aesir die in the MCU, but none of them underwent this kind of face mottling in their death throes. So, what was this? …
Tumblr media
3. Loki is a sorcerer—the greatest sorcerer of Asgard, according to Kevin Feige.
This is Asgard, where magic is everywhere, and even Thor has some magical powers of his own. The greatest sorcerer of Asgard would be exceptionally powerful indeed.
We still haven’t seen the full extent of MCU Loki’s powers because he’s been deliberately underpowered to fit into the storylines of other characters.
(Now, let’s play along, Lellie) We haven’t seen the full extent of Loki’s powers because, as we learn in the Loki series, he, himself doesn’t know how powerful he is.
Tumblr media
Also, remember, we are dealing with the sly and cagey God of Lies and Mischief. It’s not his way to put all his cards on the table, and he benefits from being underestimated by his enemies.
4. Loki was born a Jotun (Frost Giant).
We’ve seen him use Frost Giant powers (in Thor 1), both freezing Heimdall with the Cask of Ancient Winters and resisting the burning touch of a Jotun warrior.
We’ve seen other Frost Giants use additional powers; most notably, the ability to freeze their limbs so that ice weapons extend from their hands.
Tumblr media
So, what do these points tell us?
Loki really was mortally wounded when the Cursed Dark Elf stabbed him through the chest.
Something strange happened to Loki when he was dying in Thor’s arms; something that flushed all color out of his face.
Loki was capable of using sorcery or some Jotun power to freeze his own body.
Loki, as a Jotun, was capable of surviving having his body frozen.
When you freeze a liquid, it turns to ice. Loki was dying of blood loss, and perhaps cardiac arrest. Since Loki was capable of turning his blood to ice, he stopped the blood loss.
Ice cold is a preservative. That’s why we have refrigerators and freezers. It’s a well known fact that freezing an amputated body part protects it from decay and improves the chances of a successful reattachment.
So, faced with death, Loki deliberately froze himself to save his own life, perhaps anticipating that Thor would have the sense to bring him to an Aesir physician, where his wound could be healed. (But Thor didn’t.)
In the cold of winter, many animals hibernate. Their body temperature drops and they fall asleep. Their heartbeat slows down, so their bodies use very little energy and can survive without food for months.
Suppose Loki went into a hibernative state—not dead, but deeply asleep. Suppose he was able to work magic, even in this state, and was able to slowly knit his wound back together.
Thor left Loki behind as a massive sandstorm approached on the Dark World. Suppose the storm covered Loki’s body in a protective mound of sand, just like a muskrat hibernating in a hole.
Tumblr media
All Loki needed was enough time to heal himself before the Einherjar (Asgardian soldiers) found him and provided the means for him to return to Asgard in disguise.
Tumblr media
Loki didn’t fake his death on the Dark World. He managed to save himself through his own quick wits and sorcery. And Thor was too stupid to realize what Loki was doing and too self-absorbed to think about what could have happened to Loki, rather than assuming Loki had deliberately faked his death.
No wonder Loki didn’t advertise the fact that he’d survived.

While I slog through a fic I actually really want to tell (the joys of writing!) I decided to talk about that Feanor as Melkor's son AU I mentioned in my tags
So far I have three possibilities, from least realized to most:
Feanor as Melkor and Mairon bio baby, so far I don't really have much for this one, the Valar find baby Feanor after Melkor's imprisonment (haven't decided why Mairon wouldn't have escaped with the baby) and give him to Finwe to raise (I hadn't realized it doesn't makes sense for Miriel to die in this one until now, so either she doesn't and it's full throwing away canon or in this one she doesn't exist and Finwe just didn't want to tell Feanor who his real parents were, it's both sad and funny)
Baby Feanor kidnap adopted by Melkor, the timeline is bothering me here, maybe Feanor is born before Melkor's imprisonment? Or he leaves imprisonment way before the original? I mostly wanted this to be funny about Melkor and Mairon getting so attached and wanting so bad to be good parents to feral child Feanor that they actually get redeemed (although dark!Feanor x Nerdanel is very intriguing)
And the one I (unfortunately) have the most on (as of right now) is Feanor as Melkor... and Miriel's son, I jokingly thought about this one but alas it got bigger than I expected, so: Melkor decides to go mess with the elves only to find Miriel collecting bugs (they're silk worms, weird bug girl Miriel for the win!) and he gets actually quite impressed with her desire to not settle with the world and wanting to make it prettier with fabrics, they fall in love (or as much in love Melkor can be, so far he is more like canon evil Melkor than the softer one of the other two ideas) but when she finds out who he is, she runs away and falls for Finwe instead.
Finwe is then totally cool with raising Miriel's child because he loves her so much but Miriel keeps feeling she's awful for her previous love for Melkor, combined with the power required to sustain a half-ainur child, and ends up dying.
Finwe of course, absolutely adores little Feanor despite not being his bio dad, and thus names him Finwion (later Curufinwe), but raising a half-ainur child is not easy, especially when you can't actually ask anyone for help without revealing the truth, so Finwe just has to deal with eldritch child Feanor, alone.
(like, one time there's a teacher Feanor hates because he heard the teacher say that Feanor killed Miriel, so Feanor gives the teacher a bracelet he doesn't even understand how he made cursed, the teacher then complains to Finwe, who is just trying to understand how to explain to his son that he can't do that, also he fires the teacher)
Then it's basically the same as canon up until Melkor return, because instead of trying to create discord he arrives and realizes Feanor's his son and tries to pull a Darth Vader and convince Feanor to join him.
Feanor is, of course, against the idea but Melkor is convinced that if he reveals Feanor's true parentage in the upcoming festival then the uproar and hate will cause Feanor to be more willing.
Only, right before he can make his announcement Feanor shows up wearing the silmarils (Melkor decides to rename him Lightbringer but I haven't figured out what that is in Quenya) and instead of going along with Melkor, Feanor
Bows. to. MANWE!!!!!
And does a whole speech about Melkor trying to deceive him by claiming he isn't Finwe's son (Feanor already realized the truth, he's just rejecting it) and doing a whole spectacle of proof
The Finwe family isn't stupid and to Feanor's surprise, the first person to join his show is INDIS!!! Joined then (in order) by Nolo, Nerdanel, and Maglor (if it was political it would be Maedhros but it's a performance remember)
Manwe isn't stupid and understands what they are doing so when Melkor tries to say that it's all Finwe's lie he just tells Melkor that it was clear that Feanor was Finwe's son
Melkor storms out (he still plans to destroy the trees but his objective is Feanor instead of just the silmarils) and the Finweans leave too
Feanor has a cathartic talk and cry with his dad while the rest of the family discuss what this means for them all, Feanor is now more open to his half-family and his relation to the other Valas is totally different, and how that could end up having happier ending to the story.
And that's how much I have of this one, it compels me but it's the only one that I have no idea of how to add Melkor x Mairon and the original idea was about THEM as parents whereas this one is about the original Finweans in a different situation so I'm conflicted

Things that i've noticed that no one ever talks about in LoTR
This is a huge post by the way so im putting it under a cut
you have been warned
TFotR - Book 1
'A day or two later a rumor (probably started by the knowledgeable SAM) YES. SAMWISE GAMGEE. OUR LITTLE CINNAMON ROLL STARTED A RUMOR. idk it's so funny to me
The entire paragraph about hobbits and gift giving is too ADORABLE.
Bilbo put INSTRUMENTS in PARTY CRACKERS. AND LIKE NEW ONES.
Bilbo calling Gandalf 'an interfering old busybody'
Bilbo: "You'll keep an eye on Frodo, won't you?" Gandalf: "Two eyes as often as I can spare them."
All the gifts Bilbo gave out and they all had meaning AND ITS ADORABLE
Lobelia, to Frodo: "...you're no Baggins - you - you're a Brandybuck!" Frodo: "Did you hear that Merry? That was an insult if you like." Meriadoc (Merry) BRANDYBUCK: "It was a compliment, and so, of course, not true."
Gandalf, shoving his head through Frodo's WINDOW: "If you don't let me in, Frodo, I SHALL BLOW YOUR DOOR RIGHT DOWN YOUR HOLE AND OUT THROUGH THE HILL."
That one Hobbit who had seen Ents IN CHAPTER TWO. HAL. HAL SAW ENTS AND IT WAS MENTIONED IN CHAPTER TWO. TWO.
"Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them?" GANDALF. WHAT THE FUCK.
Sam, freaking tf out about just being caught 'dropping eaves' by Gandalf: "DON'T LET HIM HURT ME MR. FRODO!" Frodo, hardly able to keep from laughing: "He won't hurt you."
Sam being all excited about being able to go on the adventure and then he just. bursts into tears. like.
Gildor (AN ELF) calling Frodo ELF FRIEND. ITS TOO CUTE.
Frodo, in elvish: Thanks for the food :). The Elves: HERE IS A JEWEL AMONG HOBBITS
Pippin just flat out saying he didn't want to leave Frodo any food but Sam insisted.
Frodo, about who's taking a bath first: "Eldest or Quickest first? You'll be last either way PIPPIN." GEE
Pippin, talking about Sam: He would jump down a dragons throat to save you, if he did not trip over his own feet." GEE
The ridiculous bath song. And it's Bilbos favorite. Of course it's ridiculous if it was Bilbos favorite.
Gandalf, writing in a letter to Frodo: If he forgets, I shall roast him. Frodo, four seconds later: He deserves roasting.
Sam getting mad at Ferny or someone and throwing an apple at him. AND AFTER IT KNOCKS THE IDIOT FERNY SQUARE IN THE FACE AND HE FALLS DOWN CURSING SAM JUST GOES "Waste of a good apple." AND KEEPS WALKING.
Sam, an intellectual: "What do they live on when they can't get hobbit?" AND REFUSED TO CALL THEM THEIR ACTUAL NAME AND JUST CALLS THEM 'NEEKERBREEKERS' BECAUSE ITS THE SOUND THEY MAKE
They found the trolls from The Hobbit. About the middle of Chapter 12, Flight to the Ford. The whole group thought they were real until they saw they were actually stone.
Frodo, after discovering more about Sam: "He'll end up by becoming a wizard - or a warrior!" Sam: "I don't want to be neither." OF COURSE YOU DON'T YOU JUST WANNA LIVE IN THE SHIRE AND GARDEN ALL YOUR LIFE. OH SAM.
TFotR - Book 2
At the very beginning of chapter 1 - PF COURSE SAM WAS ALWAYS THERE AND OF COURSE HE HAD TO BE TOLD TO GO AWAY AND REST. YOU ADORABLE LITTLE SHIT.
Frodo calling the Big People 'Big and rather stupid' Accurate though.
Sam holding Frodo's hand and then blushing and thEN JUST SAYS 'It's warm! Meaning your hand, Mr. Frodo. It has felt so cold through the long nights!" SAM YOU GAY LITTLE SHIT I LOVE YOU.
Aragorn: Gollum is safely kept by the Elves of Mirkwood. Legolas: *sweats*
Elrond, to Sam: "It is hardly possible to separate you from him (Frodo) even when he is summoned to a secret council and you are not!" Sam, blushing (ITS SAYS IT IN THE BOOK THE LAST SENTENCES OF COUNCIL OF ELROND): "A nice pickle we have ourselves in, Mr. Frodo!" Me: Does Samwise is gay? Does SamwISE IS GAY??
Pippin, hasn't even done anything remotely wrong yet: "There must be someone with intelligence in this party!" Gandalf: "Then you most certainly won't be chosen, Peregrin Took!" Pippin: D:
Gimli: "His (Sauruman's) arm has grown long indeed if he can draw snow down from the north to trouble us here three hundred leagues away." Gandalf, channeling his inner sassy bitch(bilbo): "His arm has grown long."
>TBC im not even close to being done yet< ^^

I greatly detest the whole ‘Feanor and Galadriel are foils but Galadriel is better than Feanor in that she didn’t yearn for power when she got to middle earth like he did, and he just went for his stupid silmarils and to wage war against Morgoth' becuase as always that tends to just reduce Feanor to a misinformed fandom version of himself and make him seem arrogant (and for some reason misogynistic???) and also completely erases galdriels flaws and complexity (and the fact that those flaws are typically praised where as Feanor’s are shamed). Which Feanor himself is also extremely flawed he is not perfect- but come on? More so, people tend to completely gloss over the reason both feanor and galadriel went to middle earth and compare/contrast them for it and make feanor seem rebellious for no reason.
Feanor didn’t go to middle earth for power, he left valinor because he felt he had no other choice.
The valar were not protecting him against Morgoth, he didn’t have any trust in them because they didn’t earn his trust. And when one of their own fucked up after Feanor had continuously brought up how dangerous/problematic he was (but the valar ignored him because he was Feanor) they wanted Feanor to fix their mistake. They wanted Feanor to literally kill himself (because he says that if he breaks the silmarils he will die - and take this as you will, but I personally do not think he said that lightly) for their problem. And what is worse, is that Morgoth killed finwe as well and the valar still did nothing. Feanor didn’t trust them, he didn’t feel safe. One killed his father, the others were willing to kill him, all of the them wanted his Silmarils even if it cost him his life, after not treating him well at all. He didn’t feel safe in Valinor because unlike all the other elves, he was not protected, he was not favored by the valor. He left valinor out of necessity, because valinor was not safe for him. at the root he was protesting the valar's treatment of him and the other elves because if they didn't stand up to protect feanor, then any other elf could've been treated that way in the future.
Galadriel, who was loved and cherished by all—the valar included, did not have to leave Valinor. She did not leave out of fear, or even wanting to fight Morgoth, she left because she had the desire to rule people of her own. She wanted to be given lands and people of her own. That was her prime motives.
She wanted to be a ruler. And she got that, easily. One could say this is a flaw, but it was never corrected or called out by Tolkien because unlike Feanor’s flaws, Galadriel’s flaws are written as character growth and development. And the thing is, she does get to rule people, multiple times. She is given rule and power in realms, through celeborn and even through her heritage, realms and people are given her to rule (mostly sindar and silvan elves- and some of them do take issue with this). and even when she returns to Valinor, she is in the ruling family in Valinor by both Finarfin and Ingwe and the Teleri (lmao I forget their kings name) blood that runs through her veins. She is also welcomed back Into valinor with open arms. Even the Valar want her to return. She doesn't leave out of fear or distrust, she leaves because to her, it is a way to rule power/people.
Feanor’s desire to venture to middle earth is not the same as galadriel. Therefore, none can be compared or contrasted. I very much love both characters, but I think you are doing a disservice to yourself if you look at them through a ‘Feanor vs Galadriel’ perspective because of how they are treated in the narrative. Feanor is always going to look worse in comparison to Galadriel, and he is going to be under simplified when it comes to his motives. People don’t see he was afraid, they see he was arrogant which isn’t fair. Especially when it can be argued that Galadriel is also arrogant tolkien just favors her more. and like I said I do like her so whether or not you think her motives are bad or good, are up to you. But I think they shouldn’t be seen in comparison to feanors, whose life in valinor was not as easy as Galadriel’s.
If you want an actual foil of Galadriel and Feanor, I’d suggest trop Galadriel who is a lot like Feanor and ventures to middle earth for reasons that are similar to Feanor (stop Morgoth/sauron, avenge finrod). And in TROP galadriel actually does have flaws that she needs to work on, that are called out by the narrative. Similar to Feanor--Rings of Power galadriel is the most accurate flaw to Feanor.
You cannot compare someone who is loved by all, cherished by the author himself, and practically given realms and lands because of who she is and how loved she is, to someone who is going through unaddressed trauma, stalked/harassed by a literal god, ignored by the ones who are supposed to help him, and at the end of the day acts of of fear. That is not a fair comparison.
any maybe this is just a twitter thing, but the mini fan war i've seen going on between the two fans of the characters (or just everyone collectively agreeing that feanor is stupid for waging war against morgoth when the valar did nothing and that galadriel is the better version of him), is really dumb.
both galadriel and feanor are honestly remarakable characters that are allowed to exist without being pit against one another. that just reduces both of their characters and takes away any form of complexity they have.

BALDUR'S GATE 3 OC LINEUP; this is a glorified tag dump post for my idiots thus far. may get updated in the future with other ocs & if so it will be reblogged to showcase those changes. under the cut will be basic character introductions & they will be in order.
Rylla: wizard spell sword, high elf, genderless( all pronouns ) bisexual, neutralish, 27yo everyone laugh at the youngest member of the party haha
Tumblr media
Rylls is my main "Tav" which is the player character. full name: Idrylla Rhea Dhwani Crisanta. they are unmotivated, burntout, tired, & p much going thru the motions. she's the eldest out of like 7 and the first in like a generation or two of elves in her family to be magically inclined so his parents rlly pushed for parentification as a help w/ the kids since her family are fishing merchants, but got sent to study at a wizarding guild schoolesc thing in Baldur's Gate where the fam is from all around. pushed to be the top of their class and the like first apprentice to the head wizard he got framed for attempted murder by a jealous rival and got tossed in jail with a two day pardon to run home and grab a journal that would prove her innocence only to find out her fiance, now ex fiance, had been cheating on them and threw out all their stuff hearing rylla was in jail and was like OH LOL WHOOPS on the way to the dump is when this jackass got abducted by mind flayers like u cant have a more worse day than rylla bc the next day was allso when he had to pay his mortgage taxes so like all that and u still gotta pay bills anyways everyone in camp wants them carnally but rylla does not romance anyone, however he does have a connection with gale that is strictly platonic. rylla is a prodigy & a spell sword
Frye: warrior, mesophlieseses tiefling, he/him cismale home of sexual, somewhat lawful good. or at least he tries, 87yo
Tumblr media
Frye Ravensworn is from Baldur's Gate, a oathbroken paladin former flaming fist. after an accident that cost the lives of several innocents he lost faith in the order & left, turning to a life of mercenary work. after feeling as if he wasn't making any difference he "retired" to establish a popular tavern known as The Devil's Fyre( pronounced fire unlike his name Fry-ee bc hehe get it he thinks hes hilarious ) anyways he's Rylla's best friend they have been pals for ages and she usually comes to him when they need to bitch about their life. he does enjoy being a bartender and listening to others rather than being constantly asked about stories of his own adventures. it's rylla that makes him feel as he did when he was younger, having a purpose reigniting that love for life & hope in people once more so when Rylla was taken by mind flayers he picked his sword back up and closed the tavern to set out to find rylla's stupid ass knowing the next time he sees them they could be a mind flayer but at least rylla would die by a friends hand. it's in act 2 we find Frye, at the last light inn helping the harpers & flaming fist protect the tieflings from the shadows. upon seeing rylla he scoops her up & squeezes him so tight one could swear their bones popped. Frye serves as a paladin option to recruit like how mi/thara is, but for like the ~good~ route basically. Frye romances W/yll !
Carnation: druid with a class i made up called underdark druid its got bits of spore shadow sprinkled in but she can grow n manipulate crystals ! bc they are the fauna of the underdark :), auvryrahel drow, she/her cisfemale, violencesexual, evil. fucking evil. dark urge !, 134yo
Tumblr media
a hot pink bitch named breakfast. our favorite cult leader. last name Vasiira. raised in the underdark with a small clan of underdark-druids deep under the earth while i forgot to add her mom to this screencap dump, Momma'Nation, Trielthrae was one of the many exiled loth-drow that formed this little village of which the clan of druids lived, wanting to change the stars of her peers & sick of loth's rule--- she beseeches the gods to grant her a child that would be blessed in their light, to become a holy savior & change the world for her, her village, for the drow, & for everyone. bhaal read that text & answered, requiring a unholy communion of which Trielthrae gladly gave leaving her with a miraculous pregnancy. enter our little anti-christ, our cute little princess. our beautiful Carnation who was beloved & welcomed by the village with open arms. she wants power, she wants fame, she wants clothes, she wants devotion. the village quickly & completely submitted to her whims wants & needs. bhaal lends her some of his grand power, as technically she is a bhaal spawn. its just complicated. mind flayers took her from the shores of the dark lake, this is the first time she has been outside of the underdark & once she saw the night sky at camp she wept in it's beauty. she romances as/tarion, ascendant. he sees her as a equal as she denies bhaal, stealing his power for herself & manipulates the nether brain for her own gain becoming akin to a god. she will not end her conquest until she becomes a god wholly. auvryrahel is the name of the specific village / noble house that makes up carnation's cult.
Luella: cleric, but its complicated :), auvryrahel half-drow, she/her bisexual cisfemale, her morality is whatever carnation wants, ageless
Tumblr media
undead half-drow handmaiden to Carnation Vasiira. she acts as a nanny, a nurse, a sister, a caregiver, a friend, a confidant, & a puppet. raised from death by Carnation's mother when her daughter was only but six years old via a powerful spell that grants this undead what's left of her fractured soul & a lifespan that allows her to live as long as Carnation wills her to, Luella is devoted completely to her charge. she lives, literally, only to serve her mistress--- having left the underdark in search of her beloved flower when Carnation goes missing after a rare nautiloid sighting near the dark lakes.
G'waine: kith'rak ranger, githyanki, she/they nonbinary lesbian, chaotic good but the good is like for the good of the githyanki not you. fuck you as far as she's concerned, 38yo
Tumblr media
UTENA COMPLEX, PRINCE OF THE CRECHE. kith'rak g'waine, a captain of her creche boldly named draa'zvir--- dragon's breath. a warrior of fine make & groom, the pride n joy of her creche the youngest to make captain in it's long history. a skilled warrior, a even better strategist she is calm collected but never cold. a proper leader in the making to eventually take over creche draa'zvir or would have if not captured by mind flayers during the chase of the nautaloid alongside lae'zel, attempting to strike down mind flayers at they attacked other gith. because of this word returned of her capture to her creche & they moved to mourn her as if she were already dead. the fallen dragon prince & the tale of noble, but foolish, sacrifice to save her gith comrades and kill the ghaik invaders. has a bit of a resemblance to a frog & was teased as a child as 'the frog prince' until her merits outshined all her sought to demean her. also she killed them as is her right. romances lae'zel & has a hellva complicated time about the whole orpheus thing. voss knows g'waine, actually a lot of the creche u visit knows them too.

I have so much feels regarding Miriel and Feanor. If my mother, whom I love dearly and gave her life for me to live, were stated as being allowed to be reembodied but the only thing standing in her way of being able to is the fact that my father was a horny pos who wanted to fuck this blond bimbo and have babies with her, therefore depriving my mother of her chance at life FOREVER. I too would be resentful and full of hate for anything and everything that represented their Union and my mothers sundering from me.
Finwe and Indis are both in the wrong. He was so young when they wed and had Findis, he barely had time to process his mothers death, however temporary it may have been for an elf in Valinor, but then his dad went “hey so uh, I really want to have more kids and in order for me to do that your mother would have to stay dead forever! YOLO!” I would feel so much resentment not only to him but the other person who was responsible for this. He obviously couldn’t blame his dad, the only living parent he has, so he projects all his loathing and resentment of his father to Indis and her children and their children afterwards. Because how can he hate the last living parent he has when there’s a perfectly good target for all that pent up rage within sight that would not make him an orphan twice over?
You might object by saying that “one year of the year if the trees is like 10 sun years!!! He was perfectly grown!!! He should get over it!!!” But I ask you. How would you feel if your mother, who you either never had a chance to know or knew only sparingly when she was bed ridden died and your father took away her chance of being reunited with you? My father died of his own folly and stupidity and still I miss him to this day, if I lost my mother too I would be devistated beyond words, and we’re HUMAN. We know we only have one shot at life and no chance of reuniting with those who’ve passed on in our life time, but with elves, they can be reborn. They know that death is only temporary. So when your mother died you think to yourself, “I’ll just wait for her to feel better and then she can come back to me and father and we’ll be a family together again!” And that choice is taken from you, your mothers body, which was resting in the gardens or Lorien, is then gone and you now cannot even pretend that she is merely sleeping.
As far as I know, no living souls may visit the dead in the Halls, he no longer can hold his mothers hands and can no longer pretend that she is there, she was so sick when she passed that asking her to make a choice that would affect her for the rest of eternity isn’t the way to go. I suffer from severe depression, and in bad days I think I would be better if dead, and if I had lost my will to live and some godly being demanded that I make a choice right this moment(!!!) to return to life or be forever dead, I would have chosen to remain dead since I cannot think of why living would be better. To put so much pressure on a dead woman, who may or may not have died due to postpartum depression, is not the way to go in any situation where Finwe may have wanted to get a divorce or have more kids.
Elves are immortal, they do not die, why can’t Finwe not wait for who was supposed to be the love of his life? Why did Indis, a supposed friend of Miriels, decide that her getting her happily ever after is worth sundering her FRIEND from her son forever? Why does Indis get her happily ever after and Miriel does not? I can see why Feanor would be so against Indis and her children because under similar circumstances I would have been the same, seeing others get what was promised to me, in the blessed lands where everything was supposed to be BETTER and not getting it anyways is a recipe of disaster.
I do not feel any sympathy for Indis, not really, not when she willingly deprived her stepson of a chance for a mother, not when she willingly agreed to have kids with someone knowing that one of his kids would never have that fea bond with his mother ever again. I cannot sympathize with her selfish desire for dick, not when it hurt a child, which was what Feanor was.
I cannot imagine how Feanor might’ve felt seeing his half siblings with their mother and feeling that gaping hole in his soul knowing that I order for them to exist his mother is gone forever. To look at his brothers and sisters and see what may have been if his mother didn’t put so much of her into him, and feeling so guilty that “if only I didn’t exist my mother would still be alive”. To have it rubbed in his face, no matter how unintentionally, by his father and his new wife when Findis was a newborn that, maybe just maybe, some of the rumors are right and that him and his mother truly are marred because Indis bore a child successfully without dying so there MUST be something wrong with them.
To have that reminder of your mothers death constantly for years and have your father be so happy with his new family that it seems like he’s forgetting all your mother represented, to have the Noldor replace your mother, one of the people who represented what the Noldor are, with one of those golden Vanya princess, is unimaginable to me.
Maybe it’s a personal character flaw of myself but if I were in Feanors shoes I may have done something worse than pull a sword of my half brother when he was trying to convince my only surviving parent to disavow me.

Stupid headcanon time
I am just thinking, would Feanor reject the Call of Mandos? How many of his sons would reject the Call?
If Amrod was burnt he probably would follow the Call because in that version he was already showing regrets and planning to go back to Valinor and being accidentally burnt to death by one's father and brother (Curufin in that version) does feel like the type of thing to make one want to run away far away immediately
Feanor? He was mad at Morgoth AND the Valar. Definitely the type to haunt and follow his sons around. I think he actually has a very good chance to have his fea captured, probably along with Maedhros. If not, he'll just get to witness his sons suffer and die one by one.
Celegorm? I think he never intended to return since the very beginning when he left Orome. I always headcanon him as the one completely abandoned the idea that they could be heroes after kinslaying and fully embraced "we're villains now gotta live fast do crime". He was the one who convinced the rest to start Second Kinslaying after all.
Curufin feels like the type that's too pride to answer the Call; I think elves do need a certain amount of remorse to be willing to go the the Halls
Caranthir might answer, or not. He would likely try to think rationally and consider the pros and cons, but it's hard to tell which option would be better from Sons of Feanor's position. (There's no way they could know if there were punishment awaited them in the Halls.)
Amras (and Amrod if no crisping) might, but I think at that point they had willingly committed three kinslaying each worse than the one before. It would be very, very hard for them to believe they would found mercy in Mandos.
(Whether the ocean had power to flush unwilling elf spirits to Mandos after flooding Beleriand is not clear.)
(Can elf spirits haunt the bottom of ocean?)
Maedhros very likely would go to Mandos willingly(and expect/wish for punishment). Maybe after sulking in the lava pit for a while. Somehow I just don't think he would follow Maglor.
----------
It would be kinda funny, if Maedhros went to the Halls and believed at least he would see his father and brothers, and realized none of them was there?
And Namo & his Maiar were like "They refused to come here! We do not exactly have the authority to find them & drag them here (cannot arrest people oversea)! We do not have the resource & time to find them & drag them here (already overworked and burnt out from trying to heal the dead people from all the wars thank you very much)! Why should we put extra effort to help people who reject help when we struggle to help everyone who actually wants help? Sorry but your prideful family is not the priority here when there are all these feas lost to Angband that we have not yet found."
