Tag game
Rules: Tag 9 people you want to get to know better/catch up with!
Thanks for the tag @allegedly-quinn !
Favorite Color: Blue. Any shade except for teal
Currently Reading: The Tyrant's Tomb by Rick Riordan. I've been reading this for months and I'm still not finished; I just wanna get it over with so I can finally start Lord of the Rings 😭
Last Song: Velouria by Pixies
Last Movie: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
Last Show: Halt and Catch Fire. I just finished season 3 a few days ago. It's my new favourite show!
Sweet, Spicy or Savoury: It depends on my mood. I'm never in a mood for spicy though. Spicy is just something that goes with savoury.
Craving: I don't usually crave stuff
Tea or Coffee: Tea. At the start of quarantine I drank way too much coffee cause I kept pulling all-nighters and now I don't like it that much anymore.
Currently working on: I'm catching up on old lectures and notes that I missed in my last semester for geography. The course is over but I want to have the information down for future geography courses that I'm gonna take.
Tagging: @plutostudyign @bumblebeesstudies @peregrination-studies @lightstudiess @contre-qui @theologei @thalassiosira @studynwrite @geographicas
feel free to do it even if you aren't tagged!

thank you to the lovely @etoiles-studies for the tag! i love doing these sm
what’s your name? // molly!
what year are you? // i just finished college/sixth form and am about to start my first year of university
what are you studying? // at a-level i studied english lit, french, and german; at uni i will be doing anglo-saxon, norse, and celtic studies (yes, i am aware that ‘anglo-saxon’ is a deeply unpopular term and that scholars are actively trying to push it out of use as much as possible; if the powers-that-be can be persuaded to change the name of the course, that would be fantastic ✨)
after graduation, what’s next? // ah, good question... i’d really like to study abroad, and i’ve looked at a couple appealing postgrad courses at universities in germany and norway already, but really i think it’s too early for me to say what i’ll be doing in three years’ time. currently interested in sticking with academia or doing something with journalism or publishing, but there’s plenty of time for that to change
are you a morning or a night person? // night all the way
front/back/middle of the class? // middle, i guess? i’ve never really been that fussed about where i sit and in college most of my classrooms had the dreaded circular layout with the teacher prowling in the centre, so everyone was equally at risk lol
best feedback from a teacher/professor? // technically this is more of a skewed bit of advice than academic feedback, but the day before my cambridge interviews my english lit teacher told me, and i quote exactly, “they’re going to swing their dicks at you, and you just have to swing right back”. i interpreted that as ‘have big dick energy’. it was incredibly surprising to hear from my very quiet teacher and miraculously did actually help me keep calm during the interview so???? it’s good i guess??? big up my college for giving me no practice interviews at all but letting my english lit teacher wield that metaphor at unsuspecting students
best study tips? // i am a terrible student and renowned force of chaotic energy. i missed half of my homework and skipped class most fridays for climate strikes. the only study tip that i’ve ever really internalised and been able to use well is the ‘little and often’ method; i don’t have it in me to sit down on the same piece of work for hours at a time, and i do not understand how anyone else has the energy to do so either. so, pace yourself well, take all the breaks you need, have good snacks on hand, and everything will fall into place...? i’m so sorry my purpose on this app is to provide pretty pictures not productivity advice i’m so bad at this
three fun facts! // i have a perpetually unfinished novel-story-thing that i’ve been working on for about three years; i’m a big eurovision fanatic (watch this space for grand finale live reactions when it comes around next year 👀); and my favourite films of all time are the how to train your dragon trilogy (although ghibli films are a close second)
and now, the tags: @raonaidstudies @shhakespeare @sydthefuturenurse @oracleofdelythi @elinastudies @studynwrite
as always, no pressure to join in, and hope everyone is having a wonderful day 🌷☕️

Hi! How are you?
I wanted to ask if it's okay to dm you for tips for applying to Harvard as I'm going to start my application this fall!
All the love!
Hello!
Sorry for a later reply than I'd usually give, but I've just gotten home from the ~2 day drive home from Harvard & have been deep into unpacking, etc.
You can absolutely DM me about specific questions and such about applying to Harvard, though I'm gonna offer some larger, looser advice here for everyone
You absolutely do not need to present yourself as jack-of-all-trades-renaissance-man that we often get told is the perfect applicant in high school.
The best way to work through your application is to tell a story. Explain why you care so much about Math or poetry or environmental activism or whatever it may be -- did you do several activities in high school related to STEM? You can make yourself a STEM applicant. If you didn't give a fuck about the humanities in high school you don't have to make yourself look like you did
Let yourself have fun! I know, I know -- what? But, truly, doing personal essays and putting together the pieces of yourself, all that jazz can be fun if you don't stress too, too much! Yes, applications are important but separating yourself from that is worthwhile to keep yourself sane.
Stay ahead of deadlines. Ask your teachers for recommendations as soon as possible. Draft a personal essay over the summer. Working down to deadlines will make you miserable, and if you can stay ahead of them it is worth doing.
Of course, these are broad and general and maybe not super useful, but (anyone!) feel free to shoot me a message about anything re: Harvard, college applications, etc.

Hello, friends!
As some of y'all may know, I'm minor in educational studies, and one of my biggest passions coming from the poor high school I attended is equity in public education.
As such, I have started a small [organization? coalition?] with a few friends to advocate for educational equity in a number of different contexts and ways. It's still very small, but if it at something that interest you, you can find it on both Instagram (@/collegestudentsforedequity) and Twitter (@/csforedequity)!
Talk again soon as the fall semester approaches!
Much love,
Colby <3

Hello, folks, my first fall semester at Harvard is over and I thought I would share what the readings in a semester at Harvard looked like. I will preface that I took a humanities-heavy course load as I'm planning to concentrate in English! I've broken each course's readings as I felt appropriate. As always, if y'all have any questions at all feel free to send me an ask -- I'm always more than happy to talk about my experiences in education!
