  Often I remember that...Loki could have taken the throne of Alabasta. They could have taken it from their brother--they won the duel, they are the rightful heir. Through lineage, through any of it...It is their right.        So why didn’t they?

  Well.       One of the first things they saw coming back from their journey to their brother’s need, was his son. Their nephew. Though in the eyes of that boy, they saw their brother and his stupidity, his flippant inability to understand, his foolishness...they also saw them-self. They saw what made them want to live, they saw what their mother saw in them, what made her continue to fight for them. 

  Yes. Loki gave the reason that “Alabasta was not ready for a king like them.” A cursed king, immortal in many ways--youthful, yet seen as a bane...But deep down the reason why they did not take their rightful place was king was for that boy. For that boy’s eyes, and for what would become the entire Nefertari line.

  They would not be the one to take that hope away.

  Although Loki can usually rely on their devil fruit’s defensive capabilities--that being the near indestructible scales--if they feel they are in immense danger, they will use tekkai.       And at that point, there is now breaking through their defense.

A ramble about Loki's voice.

Sadly, I have yet to really find a voice claim that fits Loki to a T. Sometimes I can find a voice that is exact, other times just close enough that works for temporary purposes. I have switched between a few with Loki but ultimately now I have none.

I imagine Loki's voice is deep, deeper than what you may expect from someone of their stature, and although it has a male leaning tone, it is beauitful in the fact that words are spoken gracefully. Much like how they act, their voice has a certain sleekness to it like a serpent traveling across sand. It leaves a path that retains in the air for as long as the wind does not blow the left tracks away. Their voice used to be full, it used to have volume. One could hear their voice and be aware of their position, their blood, and the King they would be. Even as a child they carried the might of kings and gods behind them in the softest of words. Their timid nature as a child was guised well by the nature of their voice. As time passed, something left their voice. From full and with a volume beating any other, they now speak with an emptiness, as if a prime part of their being was taken away in the process of years of erosion. Of degradation to their being that has made them cold. A warm tone is now replaced by a freezing beauty. It is that chill that makes it still enticing to listen to them, that bitterness that makes those near wish to hear more, to perhaps find a sweetness of honey amidst their venomous tongue.

Loki sounds ancient as the sands of the desert. It has adjusted in position and yet remains the same by technicality. If any of their siblings were to hear them presently, they would ask why they sound so empty, why hope has fleeted away that even in their voice there is nothing but an old library left. A library of books that have been torn apart and ripped to shreds. All the pieces still remain, if one were to try to put them back together there would be no missing volume, no severed or burned text. And yet there was no librarian to sustain them, to keep them together in the way they used to be so many years ago.

Like a shell that one pulls up their ear, Loki is empty and yet contains the sounds of the sands, of the dunes that spread across their earliest memories. From the nightly freeze that coats the sand in blue light, to the yellow orange glow that makes everything seem to be lit upon the brightest of flames.

They represent their home as much as they come from it, they are, in a way, only a figure in history that has since remained lifeless. A book to be opened and deciphered. Though the language it is written in had long died out and there is no way to pronounce it anymore. Only to guess and gamble and hope that the interpretations gained from it are correct.

That is, in fact, Loki's voice.

  Loki, as a professor, is rather disconnected from the students for the most part. They get the job done because it is a requirement for them at this point, at least until they can get them-selves out of the little predicament they are in...One main reason for their distance from the students comes simply that their opinion on wizards is rather low. Mostly because they are very aware of their eye being used in a wand, the very wand they use today, and of them being used almost as a horcrux. They despise so deeply everyone around them, but through time it has been deafened enough for them not to simply want to rip into everyone around them. If they were to do that, they would certainly have been caught much faster. 

      If something does come up that grows them especially close to the moments so long in the past, they will grip their wand tightly, it almost seems as if it may snap with how tight they hold it. Perhaps it is to try to get closer to the part of them that was torn away, or maybe it is meant to strangle the life out of the man that did it all to them. They wouldn’t know the answer. It simply feels better to do the simple action.

An important difference between Loki when they first got their devil fruit to Loki anytime after they turned 100. If you wake up early Loki from their nap, you will die. If you wake up later Loki from their nap, you probably won't die.

  On devil fruits in modern au:       This does still work. Sorta. We’re going to have to ignore the fact that both Orochi and Loki would have the same fruit, and say it still works. Since in modern verse, Loki does not die and come back, they are immortal. They can’t die. I’ll figure something out to explain it a little better and make a post about it eventually--but the modern au works for both with and without devil fruit.

  Loki is almost afraid to make relationships. Romantic, platonic, anything. They would much rather isolate them-self than to even risk the possibility of growing attached. The idea of living beyond anyone they ever grow to meet has numbed their feelings, and yet something deep inside them still makes them fear that their emotions will return only to be shattered again when those they have grown close to die. What is a wanderer to do when their life is as extensive as time and all around simply come and go? They can’t do anything to keep them alive, they could end their own life, perhaps...But is that really what they want?        This is even more true with their feelings of having children. They doubt this eternal youth will pass on to their children, and even worse what if their condition of being unable to eat is given to their child? Would they fall to the lows of their father and traumatize their own? Loki knows that without question they were never do such a thing after going through it them-self, but what if something changed? And then to live with a father that would never die, that would outlive anyone? To witness their own child grow old and die. To watch their significant other die, to grow sick, to grow and be forced to watch the often agonizing process of someone close to them dying. 

  They are reminded of Emilia, of their closest friends, of the generations of their family they have watched come and go. They are reminded of Amano Aoi and her obsessiveness, and then her death by their own hands. They are reminded of Embla...And the wayward group they managed to form, only to see some die, then them-self be overtaken by death. Finally some relief, only to return to nothing. Nobody still remains from their time. They are but a vagrant who seeks the peace one gets from wandering alone. That tranquility that is so often disturbed by those craving for their attention till it ultimately ends with death.

  Did I give Loki’s Orochi form a peacock-like tail? :’)       Am I saying that Kurozumi Orochi’s beast form also has the peacock-like tail? Despite canon not showing anything resembling it? Yes.

  I would find it interesting if like...what if there were some devil fruits that were stronger in the water. Like--yes it’s a fundamental weakness of devil fruit users, oops can’t swim. But like--there is a fish model of devil fruit, and there are some devil fruits that are based on water based creatures! The Orochi is also a water based creature--it’s meant to be a water serpent.

      Like what if there were some devil fruits that yes, can activate out of water, but they are far more powerful and with their full potential ONLY when part of them are submerged. In context of the Orochi, what if they could use the elemental stuff when submerged in water and can swim extremely well, but when out of water they are relatively not mobile.    The only issue with this is the problem of...what is the weakness of these ones. If they’re okay in water, then how else but Haki would they be defeated? Maybe seastone would still work? 

      I’m gonna think about this more--Loki as a whole doesn’t entirely have the water weakness anymore, at least they can swim but they can’t turn into their orochi while in water since they did come back to life and that original devil is no longer entirely present. But I might be changing that to an extent if I figure out a good equivalent weakness to water that is as present.    I just find this super interesting :’) Especially for not only Loki, but characters like Page One(spinosaurus is water based), Kaido(fish model, plus any other fish model dfs), and other things like water logias or other creatures that are more aquatic.

  I would say the biggest hint that Loki is actually feeling something...is when you look into their eye, they are confused.        Because the last time they truly felt something, was when the person they considered to be their closest companion, died. To feel anything after over 200 years, and a death, would shock them to the core.
