Publishing as Artistic Practice / Exhibition at Vulkano, Gothenburg
August 19-21 // 2022
Weekend exhibition with 14 participants at the art space Vulkano in Gothenburg, curated and organised by Lani DuVall.
I showed parts of my Studio books project for the first time, which was interesting and exciting to see that work together with other publishing projects.
Text (Bio) from exhibition:
Mattias GunnarssonI am an artist / educator / designer living and working in Gothenburg. Artistic publishing is an important part of my practice and has been so for the last ten years, both as a maker of zines and artists books as well as organizer of publishing-related situations. In 2016 I started and worked with, the HDK-Zine library in collaboration with Gothenburg University library. The archive is a donation based project where makers can submit (and publish towards) self-published work, both zines and artists books, that gets cataloged in the library system and open to anyone to browse and borrow.
I have participated in several national and international zine-fairs and communities, though my main distribution of work is trading with other makers and I have done some 200+ trades over the years, that has functioned both as reaching audience as well as building archive of others work. Since February 2022 I run the Salon de Papier together with design and curator group DOMA and Gathenhielmska huset. Besides my own publishing work I also work with MASUworks which is an ongoing publishing platform that follows the work of the artist collaboration project MASU (Mattias Gunnarsson and Susanne Westerberg). MASUworks has yet produced and circulated 14 issues related to their exhibition work.In this exhibition I will show (parts of) a project called Studio books, which is a growing set of collage books that I make and keep parallel to other art projects. The books have neither a given narrative nor chronology which make possible for new stories and kinship across several projects and times. The Studio books are also an archive of my processes.
A lil practice in perspective with this piece mostly, so here's Howl and Sophie, who I designed based 50/50 on their book and movie counterparts! I actually would love to revisit this piece and paring in the future, since the book is one of my all time favs
Here is a round-up of all eight of the free digital brush packs that I’ve released so far for Photoshop CC, Clip Studio Paint, and Procreate!
You can download them on this page (click)
Type in “0″ for a free download or tip any amount you so desire!
All my brush packs are totally free (tips optional but always very appreciated!) and can be used freely in any work, including commercial work that you profit off of, with no license or credit required. My goal with these brush packs is to make digital painting feel more achievable and accessible - especially painting environments, something I now LOVE but that used to intimidate me, & felt much more approachable with the right tools! Many of the packs also come with tutorial video content. I hope you enjoy!
