which is comprised of states belonging to both the great lakes region and the great plains region. the cradle between salt-coast empires. often mocked, derided, and maligned even though the nation relies on us to provide its current way of life, even though we boast boundless natural beauty, even though we maintain bastions of art and culture, even though we have sent many forth to become known on the world's stage for their talent, skill, or intellect.

i am the (lo)rax and i speak for the midwest. and i won't stop speaking for the midwest until every self-styled academic, every self-professed progressive, every self-identified intellectual stops looking down their nose at us as if the white supremacist engine of genocidal colonization and everything that came after, including and perhaps especially the rise of those salt-coast metropolises, did not have a hand in shaping everything you pity or resent us for. as if those same qualities, features, or aspects cannot be found under your very own nose where you are. as if the machines of your wealthy empires do not actively, still to this day, work hard to make us misunderstand each other.

I absolutely love living on my own and having no one but myself to be responsible for. But I'm also still weirded out by not having anyone to talk to when waking up or saying goodnight to. I am pretty comfortable in this loneliness, always have been, but I also realize it shouldn't be this way and I wasn't born to live my life alone.

Sea folk Jay AU tidbits TW: very very strong feelings descriptions

In this Au Jay was raised on the sea by his adoptive parents instead of a dessert junk yard. He has that goofy nautical accent that punctuates every part of his normal speech. He's brought up on an old, converted barge boat, hopping from island to island all over the sea. He lived as a drifter and shook hands with a lot of island natives.

He can speak very small bits and chunks of different islander languages.

As cool as his background is he's a very sad and depressed individual. I throw a lot of what I personally experience having spent my summers boating my whole life. I'm not near to his level but there are things I experience that have crushed me more and more over the years. He misses the sea, he misses the waves hitting the boat, the sand on his bare feet, the rocking of the ship at night while he's sleeping the songs the natives sing, the seagulls, and hollering into vast empty expanses of the sea. No one there to hear you scream, you can scream and yell anything you want when you feel overwhelmed. It eats him from the inside and drives him to hopeless tears((it sounds very personal, but like I've said I experience a lot of this. I've never met island natives or anything like that, but you do whole heart miss the water))

He's much quieter than cannon Jay. His voice is still very high pitched, but it has this sad weird slight lower tone mixed in there somewhere

He sings the native songs he's been taught when he feels homesick. It's not uncommon for the monastery to very suddenly fill with his voice carefully singing in another language. Everyone can hear it and he doesn't care less. No one ever stops him when he gets like that, often they even just sit and listen to way his voice sounds, so sad and like it's echoing. He knows a lot of dances as well. He moves with quiet grace, gliding over the ground below like he's floating.

His emotional target is right there, you almost see it right on his heart. It's a subject even Wu doesn't bring up, it's better if they just don't talk about it. even just the sound of a large boats horn can cause him to close off and appear both strong and crushed at the same time.

He spends a lot of time soaking in water, watching the water, swimming, and sleeping. The Bounty is a god send for him, it helps him feel more at home and it's not weird for him to spend a lot of his nights on the ship. He can often be found preforming singing and dancing by himself on the deck of the ship. Unless it's an emergency his team just waits for him to finish before speaking to him, he can't hear them even if they tried to speak to him, lost in his mind.

He's still VERY adept at mechanics and robotics sense he tinkered a lot with the scraps on the old ship.

Some of the songs and dances are used to worship the sea. He respects and worships the sea to the point it's almost paranoid.

Benthmoaar and the whole of the Merlopians scared him. He spent a huge chunk of his life out on the sea and ocean and to find out sea monsters are real, put him over the edge for a little bit. He and Benthomaar later became VERY close. Bethomaar referred to him as a "clam with a pearl". when asked what that meant he said Jay gets a grain of sand inside him, he closes off, and creates a pearl to rid that grain of sand, he then gives that gift of the pearl to his friends and family.

When Nya became a part of the ocean...Jay lost it. He vanished, took off, ran away. He couldn't do it anymore. He plunked himself right on that solitary island where Zane's father used to stay. Echo left some 2 years ago. He spent a whole year...missing. It was Kai who figured would where Jay was when Jay switched his phone back on after a year.

I have FEELINGS about Stranger Things Season 4 Vol 2.

Spoilers under the cut.

Fuck them hyping up that anyone could die and yet they still will only kill the new lovable character of the season. They are so afraid for killing any main characters that they write in characters destined to die to show that AnyThiNg cAn hApPEn. I call Bullshit on your artificial stakes. All it does it make us mistrust any new character that is introduced. It is hard to root for someone you know it to fulfill a weird grief fetish. Eddie deserved way better, when every other character was allowed to be brought back from the brink of death. Steve literally was attacked by the upside down bats and survived, why was eddie different.

I've also seen about the 80's queer coding applied to Eddie's costume, which if is correct makes me extra mad he was used. Fuck Off with Bury You Gays.

What's with the plotlines going nowhere to hype up the tension. We saw next to none of the linchmob that just disappeared by the end of it. Tell me if I'm wrong, but wasn't like most of the town convinced of this Hellfire cult. And Eleven only able to find the strength to defeat Vecna with Mike's peptalk when the whole season was showing how she worked to get her powers back. I would of just liked if the peptalk wasn't so Mileven centric, but they do lean on that relationship too much. Makes it feel forced to me. And Eleven fighting to bring Max back shows how strong this group of friends is, not just Mileven.

I did not like how they did the vickie with a boyfriend thing. Again, felt like adding unnecessary tension when they just had them breakup off scene. I hope they treat the character and relationship (platonic or otherwise) with Robin right, but with the writers track record I'm not keeping my hope's up.

This post was for me and me alone. I needed to get it off my chest.

re: lrb, imo new language is not created without cause or reason. even if you don't think the reasons are founded or worth much, new terms don't usually surface and then gain wild popularity for no reason at all.

growing up gnc in pre-social media era, i did not subscribe to bisexual or lesbian labels bc from my real-world pov--informed by geographic location, age, race, where i spent most of my time (public school), socioeconomic status, etc--did not give me examples of those label-communities including people outside the binary. no matter where i went, even into older queer spaces, people subscribed heavily to the gender binary. it was alienating.

which is why i have always maintained that labels like pansexuality became popular in the first place. because a lot of gnc/gender queer/trans/gender fucker people needed it. because your communities did not include us. you can say it now all you fucking want, but what were you doing and saying and who were you including and excluding back then? and if you weren't alive or old enough to record memory of your lived experience pre-social media, then you just don't know.
