VATICAN CITY— Pope Francis on Saturday dismissed Bishop Joseph E. Strickland of Tyler, Texas, one of his fiercest critics among U.S. Roman Catholic conservatives, after he refused to step down following a Vatican investigation.

It is very rare for a bishop to be relieved of his duties outright. Usually bishops in trouble with the Vatican are asked to resign before submitting a resignation, which the pope accepts.

Israel Adesanya vs Alex Pereira 2 (4)

Israel Adesanya (24-2) is the UFC middleweight champion once again, having finally beaten Alex Pereira. But with middleweight being the division that it is, he is left with the shallowest of pools to hunt in. So much so that the UFC is sending Sean Strickland (27-5) to Australia to headline a PPV.

Adesanya and Strickland will headline UFC 293 this Saturday (Sept. 9).

Dynamite 26/10/23

A Gift for Sting

Dynamite opened up with a fired up MJF. We had appearances from Adam Cole (via phone), Roderick Strong and the Man in the Devil Mask.

The action began with MJF defending his Dynamite Diamond Ring against Juice Robinson. Juice received a vicious ass kicking outside and around the ring from the get to. The victory came for Max when the Gunns goofed up, giving the Champ enough time to slip the ring on and sock Juice in the jaw.

Post-Match saw a beatdown on MJF with Strong and The Kingdom making the save. Roddy stayed in his wheelchair while The Kingdom got easily discarded. But do not fear, The Acclaimed is here as they cleared the ring. The furious Gunns issued a challenge for the ROH Tag Team Titles at Full Gear. MJF takes the offer but wants a piece of all four members before the PPV. Next week it – in the main event – it will be The Bullet Club Gold ve. MJF and three partners of his choosing. Right away Roddy and The Kingdom as dismissed, followed by he Acclaimed. This begs the question, who will team with MJF? The pressure is stacked as Kenny Omega comes out and makes a challenge for the Triple B. MJF accepts the match for this Saturday on Collision. Later, Samoa Joe offered to team with MJF under one condition; that he is given a title shot.

Next was Hook teaming with RVD to take on the Dark Order’s Alex Reynolds and John Silver. There’s no clear direction for The Dark Order. The main idea is to shine the light on Hook and for RVD to help ignite the crowd.

Tony Schiavone in is the ring to give Sting a gift from Tony Khan. That gift is Ric Flair. I can't say I'm disappointed. I never expected Flair to be in an AEW ring to be honest. The Nature Boy says some very sweet words to Sting. Christian Cage, along with Luchasaurus and Nick Wayne came out and interrupted the feel-good moment. Christian destroyed Flair verbally and issues as challenge at Full Gear. The bout will be a 6-man tag team match. Fortunately, Flair won’t be fighting with Sting and Darby Allin.  Later, both men try to recruit Adam Copeland who refuses to fight Christian. Sting attempts to talk some sense into Copeland. I do think Adam will join the fight at Full Gear, but I sense a heel turn.

Chris Jericho had a sit down interview. He vows to get revenge on Don Callis. Jericho states he has lots of friends and some of them are bigger than Will Hobbs. Who is the Ocho talking about? Paul Wight of course! Nah, that wouldn’t be it. Maybe it’s not size he is referring to but star power.

The ROH Trios Tag Team Titles were on the line as The Young Buck & Adam Page defended against The Hardy Boyz and Brother Zay. I’m not a fan of the ROH belts appearing on AEW. I don’t watch ROH, so I’m not following the journey of these belts. The Bucks and Hangman retained in a non-exciting bout. Before a celebration could begin, we cut to Swerve and Prince Nana breaking into Page’s home. Both men walk through the house. Swerve made his way Adam’s baby boy’s room. It was quite a uncomfortable moment as Strickland gifts the baby with his t-shirt. He vows that the baby will one day owe him something. This feud has become personal, and it must end in blood.

Hikaru Shida defended her AEW Women's title against Ruby Soho. Early on there was a botched cross body and from that point on the match never took off. There was a moment where I thought Soho was going to win, but that's as far as the drama took me. If the moves were tightened up, I think this would have been a solid bout. Toni Storm and her new butler, Luthor made an appearance on stage for an exchange of stares.

Orange Cassidy and Kazuchika Okada took on Bryan Danielson and Claudio Castagnoli in a very good main event. The crowd were behind Orange and Okada. The ending was odd tough. Bryan was left holding his face in a kayfabe injury while the BCC came to his aid. Things were getting tense as Hook and Best Friends came Oranges side.

Most of the show was setting up Full Gear and continuing stories. The wrestlers who ate the pins are kind of in purgatory. What do you do with The Hardyz, Ruby and Dark Order at this point?

Sean asked me to join him at his private gym. So here I was, looking at him train for his next fight. “Sean move! You need to move more!” His coach yelled at him. His sparring partner was throwing some big launches on him. “Okay stop!” His coach went in the ring as they stopped. “What the fuck are you doing Strickland.” He shrugged his shoulders. “You look like a scared little mouse, you need to focus more, stop playing around.” “Sorry, I just don’t feel so good today.” “Well you need to get your shit together otherwise you are never getting that belt buddy.” Sean nodded as his coach walked out of the ring. “Let’s take a break, 30 mins.” Sean walked over to me, smiling softly. “Hey.” “Hey.” We both sat down on the bench. He grabbed his water bottle, taking a sip from it. “Are you okay?” He nods and places his water down. “Yeah, are you okay? Not bored or something?” “I’m okay, I like watching you..” he smiles. “You do?” I nodded. “Yes I do..” I said with a light blush on my face. “You are always welcome here..”

—— the next day——

I was back at my apartment calling with my bestie, while making dinner for myself.

“You guys are what?” I asked as she was rambling about her and Dillon.

“Together, Dillon already post it in his story.”

“Aww how cute..” I giggled

“But enough about me, how are you and Sean..” she sang as I blushed

“Good, went to his gym today.”

“Are you guys already dating or…?”

“Nope, just hanging out.”

“Come on Y/N, just date the guy already, he’s probably thinking about you now… fantasying about you.”

“Y/B/N!” She starts to laugh as I scoffed at her

“Oh come on don’t be a prude…. Just call him and ask if he wants to go out with you, spice thing up between you guys.”

“I don’t know..” I sighed.

“Hey, it’s okay. I don’t want you to feel uncomfortable with this but I don’t want you to regret this because you are afraid to fall…”

“I know, I will think about it.”

“Good, now I need to go, I have a date I speak you later..”

“Okay have fun tonight and we speak later.”

“Bye bye!”

“Bye.”

I placed my phone down and sighed, looking at my food. ‘Maybe I should call him..’ I looked between my food and my phone. ‘Okay fuck it.’ I grabbed my phone and called him. I was fiddling with the strings on my hoodie, feeling nervous.

“Hey Y/N.” I heard his voice echoing through my phone.

“Hey Sean, I hope I don’t bother you at the moment.” I felt my heart beating fast in my chest.

“No you never bother me darling.” I quickly sat down, feeling a bit dizzy.

“So why do I have the pleasure that you are calling me right now?”

“Uhh, I don’t know anymore.” I cringed at myself. ‘Idiot!’

“Okay, that’s okay, you want me to come over?” ‘Yes please!’

“Only if you want to, I’m sorry I don’t know why I’m calling you…”

“I’m coming over, text me your address.”

With that he hang up the phone. ‘You’re an idiot!’ I quickly texted my address and started to panic a bit. ‘The food, my living room is a mess, what if he was fantasising about me…’ I quickly cleaned up my apartment, throwing some clothes in the wash basket, folding the blankets on the sofa, cleaning up my kitchen. Placing my dinner in the fridge. ‘Just in case.’ I heard a knock on my door. ‘He’s here.’ I quickly looked in the mirror in the hallway before I opened the door. ‘You look alright for a Saturday night in.’ I took a deep breath and opens the door. Sean stood there in his joggers and a hoodie holding a bag. “Hey, come in.” “Thanks.” He walks in and I closed the door behind him. “I didn’t know if he already ate something but I brought some food.” He gives me the bag. “Sean, you didn’t have too you know.” “I know but I wanted to.” I placed the bag on the counter. “I hope you like Asian food.” I smiled at him. ‘It’s better what I made, potatoes with vegetables..’ “yes I do, you want some as well?” He nods and joins me at the table. “I’m happy you called, I was just thinking about you..” ‘oh no, why did she had to joke about it.’ “You were?” He nods as i gave him a plate. “Yeah, I was thinking to ask you out on a date…” he rubbed the back of his neck. “You want to go on a date with me?” “Yes of course, like I said give me an chance..” “okay, I would love to go out on a date with you.” His face lights up. “Really?” I nodded. “Yes but can I count this also as a date?” ‘Just be bold..’ “if you want that then yes.” I smiled and looked at my plate. “Then it’s a date.”

We where watching a romantic movie on the tv. “What an asshole…” I mumbled softly. “Yeah, she should leave him.” Sean says as he rest his arm on the back of the sofa. “I would never do that to you…” he whispered softly at me. I turned my head, looking at him with already a blush spread on my cheeks. “Are you flirting with me Mr Strickland?” He smiles and he slowly drops his arm around my shoulders. “Maybe.” My heart speeds up as I felt his hand tracing my shoulder. “Sean..” whispered softly as he leans closer to me. “Yeah?” He was dangerous close to me now. “Can you grab that blanket next to you.” I bailed out. He smiles and leans back, grabbing that blanket. “Here you go.” He throws it over us, tucking us in. “Better now?” I nodded and looked back at the tv.

I felt him watching me, his arm carefully pushing me closer to him, as my head slowly fell against his chest. His hand slightly brushed against my arm. I tried to relax as he rested his head on top of mine. “You smell nice, so sweet.” I looked carefully up at him, he had a lazy smile on his face. “Thank you.” His hand traveled up to my neck, slowly to my chin. Holding my head steady. “Can I kiss you darling?” He whispered softly as he leans a bit closer. I nodded and he closed the distance, his lips ghosting over mine. I closed my eyes and leaned in. Our lips touched and he deepened the kiss. My hand went up to his hand as he softly squeezed me. I moved a bit around to sit more comfortable, straddling his lap. His hands move down to my waist, holding me. I broke the kiss. He smiles and wipes a few strands of hair out of my face. I tried to move away from his lap but he stopped me. “Please stay.” “Sean, I’m to heavy..” he shook his head. “No you’re not, stop talking like that…” he softly squeezed in my hips. “You’re not heavy, you can sit on me every day darling.” I blushed and hide my face in crook of his neck. “Sean stop..” “No never, look at me baby.” I looked up at him, he pecked on my cheek. “Don’t talk that crap around me, you’re beautiful.” His hand caressing my cheek. “I want you to be there with me, in two weeks at the fight, I want you to be at my side…” I was in shock. “You sure, I mean we’re not together and…” “do you want to be mine y/n, join me for this ride. I promise I will give you the world.” He held my cheek, wiping away a single tear that fell. “Don’t break my heart Sean.” He leans closer. “I’ll protect it, I promise.” I smiled and nodded. “Okay then I’ll join you on this ride.” He smiles and kisses me. “You won’t ever regret this darling.” He said between the kisses. ‘I hope so Sean, because I’m madly in love with you.’

The Jack Perry Conspiracy

Dynamite continues the Continental Classic with Jon Moxley vs. Jay Lethal. The only thing about this tournament I don’t like is that we’re told no one can interfere, and that everything is put into place to make sure we get clean matches. If this is possible to do in story, then why not do this for every wrestling match? It doesn’t make any sense. But I digress. Lethal loses the opening bout due to rear naked choke. Moxley leads with six points. Poor Lethal has zero.  

Eddie Kingston is disappointed in his defeat last week and here he said he will be ready for Bryan Danielson. Eddie has a lot more to lose in his tournament than everyone else. Bryan is on commentary – eyepatch and all – and he delivers some strong words for his preparation on Saturday. This match is going to be awesome.

Sting will have his last match on March 3 in Greensboro, North Carolina at the Greensboro Coliseum. Both Sting and Ric Flair talked about the match they had there 35 years ago at Clash of Champions for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. The match ended in a draw at 45 minutes. Take in as much Sting as you can because we only have 4 months of him left.

In the second Continental match of the night, Rush pinned Jay Briscoe to obtain his first three points. Jay – like Lethal – have zero points. Rush and Briscoe had better matches last week, although this was decent.

Toni Storm will be defending her title next week. Against whom? No body mentioned a name.

MJF comes out to the ring and praises Samoa Joe for his accomplishments. He said Joe paved the way for people like him and that Joe never got the recognition he deserved in WWE. MJF gets fired up for his match and breaks his cane in half. This is when the goons who work for the Devil make an appearance. Three masked men hold MJF as a large guy with a baseball bat threatens him. It’s worth noting when Wardlow comes out next, his hair looks quite messy; as if it could had been under a mask. Joe comes to Max’s aid just as he promised. The Devil requests a tag match with Max and Joe next week, and the challenge is accepted. I’m not sure if this is with two of the goons or with the Devil himself, who I still believe is Jack Perry. For a fun little dive in to the Jack Perry conspiracy, check out this thread on X.

Wardlow – with mask hair – came out to fight AR Fox. Fox gets some offensive early on, but Wardlow dominates most of the match and wins by stoppage. I don’t see Wardlow going into a solo feud with MJF. Wardlow is still getting his momentum back, so the feud wouldn’t really be strong, but if he is apart of this new group, then I think this would be a great way for him to get his match with Max.

Dante Martin is back from a horrific looking injury and he teams with his brother and Action Andretti to take on the Hardy Boyz and Brother Zay. Martin showcased some nice athletic moves while picking up the win. This match was built around the return and it worked for Dante. The Hardyz are floating around not doing much. It's fine to take the loss, but they gotta get them in some sort of story.

Julia Hart defended her TSB title against Emi Sakura in a decent bout. The ending was strange as Emi rolled as Hart delivered the moonsault which caused Hart land awkwardly.

Christian Cage called out Adam Copeland so that he could convince him to team up. He brings up their past and that Adam’s mother said she would have loved to see them tag again, but unfortunately, she passed away. Adam was contemplating the offer before Christian tried to hit Adam with the TNT belt, but Copeland knew his former best friend too well and deliver a kick to the balls sending Christian to the mat. Adam tells him to shine the belt up real nice for next week for their match and tells Christian to go fuck himself. This entire segment had me hooked. Christian is such a mean bastard, and I keep thinking of how low he can go each week.

Jay White and Swerve Strickland was our main event. Swerve picked up the win and continues his winning streak.

I like this episode of Dynamite. Matches were good and we have some excitement rolling into next week with this Devil storyline. Julia needs a new feud and something needs to be done with Matt and Jeff as they are not being used effectively.
