Community of Poetry pt.2

Hello there! These are just some questions for the writers in my chat Community of Poetry and anyone else who wants to answer them. I think it’s really important for writers on social media to not only read each other’s work but also get to know each other a bit. People get so caught up in “READ MY PEOMS GIVE ME LIKES” and I honestly find it kind of exhausting. So here we go! Answer at your leisure. I look forward to reading your answers if you choose to do this (:

1. Where are you from (general area)?

I’m from the US. I was born in Michigan but have lived in Nebraska most of my life.

2. What was the first book you read that you really loved?

The book that got me into reading was the first Percy Jackson book (The Lightning Theif by Rick Riordan). I was always into writing because I could create my own stories, but I didn’t really enjoy reading until my sister recommended me the Percy Jackson series.

3. Would you consider yourself to be a writer?

I spent most of my life considering myself as just a person who writes rather than a write. But as I’ve gotten older, it’s really struck me how important writing is to me and how it shapes me as a person. Considering what a huge impact it has had on my life, I have grown to think of myself as a writer.

4. What’s your favorite food?

I don’t really have a favorite dish, but I love fresh fruit. I could sit and eat it all day long, especially berries.

5. Do you prefer writing poetry or prose? Why?

I prefer writing poetry because I find it easier to get to the point and let it flow. I write a lot about myself and my life, and poetry makes it easier for my to write those quick bursts of thoughts.

6. Do you like to use writing prompts or just go with the flow?

I really suck as using writing prompts, but when I do, I usually like what I come up with. Writing from the heart has always seemed better to me, but I think I should stretch my muscles and try writing from prompts more often.

7. Does writing or reading help you cope with the hardships in your life? How so?

This one is a definite. Writing poetry is one of my only really healthy coping mechanisms. I write to let out my emotions in a tangible way. Sharing my poetry has also been a blessing. Through my time posting poems online, the people who have come to me to say my writing has inspired them to confront their trauma, made them feel less alone, or helped them in any way have made me feel so humbled and thankful.

#poetry #words #poem #poet #poems #mine #strawberrycreates #writing #this sounds very trans i know #and i am a she they #but technically this is about my breast reduction #but interpret it as you will #it was just really freeing to get rid of my breasts bc they caused so much pain and brought so much attention #and s*xualized me so much and i was constantly objectified by men #and as a she/they lesbian that felt...not ideal #i couldnt wear anything cute i couldnt get comfortable i couldnt ever feel safe #so getting that operation felt so freeing and made me feel in control of my own body for once #like lifting a curse #and jt made me feel that my body is actually mine instead of something i was trapped in #so a different kind of dysphoria than gender technically

Everything feels worse when it’s dark

On the bad nights i drown in it

The moon pulls the tides from my throat

And pushes them back in

I choke on the salt water

That fills my lungs

Moonlight is something to dream under

And something to cry under

It casts shadows on the walls of my room

I look at them at night

And something inside me overflows

Until the place where it once was is empty

Golden Hour

I made you blueberry pie

because I know it’s your favorite

we sat together in the sunlight

when i looked at you

you were looking at me

I wondered if i should kiss you

if i wanted to kiss you

what does it mean to kiss?

is it a promise?

a truth?

is there a way i could kiss you

without having to explain myself

you dont have the answers

and neither do i

so instead i just stare at you

until my skin goes red with sunburn
