I think people crush on Nick Nelson so hard because most of Heartstopper’s audience identifies way more with Charlie. But I really hope there are people who are like, “Where’s my Charlie Spring? 🥺”

Because wishing for a person who is out and proud, supports your coming out journey, is really smart and thoughtful, has badass music taste*, and built-in amazing friends is just as valid a thing to wish for as a goofy, sporty, golden-retriever partner with heart eyes.

To the Nicks who will likely never see this post:

Most of the pre-existing Heartstopper fan base and certainly most of the fans on Tumblr are the Charlie Springs of the world. And for them, this show is about the possibility of healthy romance (i want to believe in romaaance) and creating a loving queer community.

But, gosh, I hope the Nick Nelsons of the world find this show. Now that Heartstopper is in the mainstream, I hope the people who have more marginalized identities, who never thought about being anything other than straight but for whom straight doesn’t feel *quite* right, those who deal with toxic masculinity/femininity and don’t feel like they have real friends, this show is for them as much as the Charlies.

And I hope the Nicks who watch this show seek out their Charlies, Taras, Darcys, Elles, Taos, Isaacs, etc. and find a community that loves them for who they are. And I hope one thing you Charlies, Taras, Darcys, Elles, Taos, Isaacs, etc. take from this show is to reach out. This show is so good at demonstrating how being yourself makes others want to be themselves, too!

Akskd if we do two weeks next year (and I’m really liking the idea) I’ll definitely get the themes hammered out by like March at the absolute latest so people have at least three months to think and plan for it. I mean my dumb ass did not plan ahead and I could only hammer out for four total days and I just do like shitty fanmix akskdjd I cant imagine people who actually put more than five minutes thought into their stuff. But like it’ll be five years of me doing this (and six years with the blog) and we might have the whole series so!!!! I want it to be special for all of us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is my first time "officially" opening commissions, so bear with me! For now I'm just gonna open up a couple slots to start and see how things go!

Flat shapes + limited colors, no background (up to 3 colors excluding black and white): $45, $10 per additional character

Full illustration with background (colors negotiable but keep in mind I work best with limited palettes): $70-150 depending on complexity

Came for the Racoon Comic, stayed because you're a delight, and may have tripped face-first into a new obsession re: Queen's Thief because of your art. I'm not usually a YA or Romancey type reader, and honestly it's been really hard for me to read for fun since leaving school and floundering as an adult (undiagnosed-til-adulthood-ADHD crowd holla). But seeing your art of Gen, I thought to myself, "Smug, vain, sneaky boys with gray morals are a fav, might as well see what's up so I can understand what's going on in these gorgeous arts." I promptly devoured The Thief in a matter of days--DAYS, I say, which is shocking given that the last book I read (approximately a year ago) took 6 weeks and several days of overdue fines. Now I'm over here vibrating while waiting for Queen of Attolia to come off hold at my local library. New hyperfixation unlocked and it feels awesome.

All this to say, thank you. For helping me get back into reading, for making beautiful art for us strangers to enjoy, and for being an all around cool person. And good luck with your surgery! I'm sorry it has to happen, but I hope it works out well for you and recovery is easier and quicker than originally thought. <3

Ohhh my gosh, you have no idea how much you just made my day! The Queen's Thief has been one of THE most important pieces of media in my life from a really young age, and I never felt more at home online than when I found the QT fandom here on tumblr. I'm so glad you loved the first book so much and that you're enjoying reading again!

I know some people do platonic ones for “favorite ship” last year bc I think i phrased that as “relationship” BUT we could do one just devoted to specifically relationships that (you read as) platonic. Also loved parallels, quote swap, headcanon, country, twist, and outfit (also vibrating with excitement alsdfjsakl thanks for that!)

Haven’t listened to the lastest-latest ep yet so maybe you continue discussing it then, but I just finished ACoK prologue episode and had additional comments on MWT’s use of POV — I really liked your suggestion that she uses first person for growth narratives, and I would also argue that she only uses first person when she can justify it within the narrative, ie Gen supposedly wrote all of book 1 down, sophos tells his story aloud to helen, kamet also writes his story. (1/2)

(2/3) But I disagree that her third person is necessarily detached, it can be very detached but it can also be very close, like with costis in king of attolia, and the way qoa switches between close thirds of gen, attolia, and even some helen and nahuseresh and magus etc. And costis’ narrative could arguably be a growth narrative as well, but for whatever reason she decided a close third suits his story better than a first person.

(3/3) But yeah regardless it’s super interesting bc she does play around a lot with perspective obviously, and uses it to hide certain things and reveal others, as I know y’all have talked about before (and probably will again!)

I think the whole no-first-person-for-Costis is really interesting. Because you could argue that it’s a social standing thing – like, Eugenides and Sophos are both Important Enough People to have their personal accounts be worth preserving, while Costis is not. Yet Thick As Thieves turns this assumption on its head with Kamet. 

Of course, to what extent is KoA really about Costis changing as a person? He experiences a radical change of circumstance and opinion, certainly, but the person who is Growing is still, I think, Eugenides. First person might have turned our “gaze” toward Costis instead of what Costis was witnessing.
