You ever think about soulmate-mark Stucky AU, about how they would have soulmarks on their arms and they knew they were each others soulmates from a young age. But of course it is WW2 america, we got the time usual homophobia, so they have to hide their soulmarks. Maybe we even got some internalized homophobia on one or both sides. So even though they know they are soulmates, they dont fully act on it.

And then Bucky falls off the train. Steve both loses his best friend and his soulmate in one mission and it is absolutly defestating. And now Steve has to walk around with his soulmark on his arm, has to look at the mark of a relationship that never was and now also never will be. He gets stuck in the ice, gets found and suddenly is in the modern age. Here he has once again have to realise Bucky is gone, has to be with the avangers where some have found each other and where the time typical homophobia is not like WW2 times. He is happy for everyone but also it stays that reminder of what couldn't be.

BUT THEN WE HAVE BUCKY'S POV OF THIS. Bucky who gets found, brainwashed and used. Bucky who also lost his soulmate, who knows he has at first, but slowly his memories get wiped. And to make it even worse his mark is gone, all he has is his new arm with a mark that isn't his. So even if he wanted to remember his soulmate, nothing would be there to remind him of Steve, all he would see is that red star.

So when Steve finds the Winter Soldier he is in shock. His soulmate is alive, he is right in front of him but something is wrong. Bucky doesnt recognize him, the metal arm with a different mark and the fact that Bucky is trying to kill him. Steve got his soulmate back but they don't know that, and now Steve has to do anything to get his friend and soulmate back.

I can't stop thinking about Soulmate-mark Stucky. Like Stucky is already heartbreaking when I think about them for to long but soulmate mark them hits.

just thinking about how different time travel is to them: it means absolutely nothing to Bucky bc he's accepted his fate and he's somewhat content w where he ends up in IW. but Steve just has so many regrets and guilt that his first instinct is 'fuck yeah I'm going to fix them.' also canon in comics

Bucky has always been about accepting the past and moving forward w whatever burden and trauma that's imposed on him. Steve is always unwillingly thrown into a future he loathe, the past is what anchors him.

it makes sense that they'd have different reaction to time travel. it just fucking hurts. either way it fucking hurts.

In a world where roughly half the population receive a single soul mark on their sixteenth birthday, T.J. Archer is the exception—she has two. With nothing but the limited context of the words supernaturally etched on the inside of each wrist, she can't find it in herself to believe in happy endings.

When Steve comes out of the ice, he's still heartbroken over Bucky's fall. When he discovers the new soulmark etched on his skin, the only emotion he can name is rage. He doesn't want a new soulmate—he wants Bucky. Yet, despite his best efforts to pretend she doesn't exist, T.J.'s easygoing manner intrigues him and they form a shaky friendship.

After the Winter Soldier pulls Steve from the Potomac, he meets a woman who shows him kindness despite him nearly killing the man she loves. Bucky knows nothing except that these two idiots mean everything to him—even if he doesn't completely understand why yet.

Author’s note: This is an epically slow burn longfic filled with angst and flawed characters, but it’s guaranteed to have a happy (eventual) ending. Steve is a stubborn ass for several chapters — emphasis on *ass*, but he eventually figures it out and starts to make amends. Also, updates are slow because I’m in grad school for my MBA and I work full time, but I do try to write as often as I can. Soulmates can relieve their own pain by sending it to their other half, something Hydra had utilized with the Winter Soldier.

So the day Clint made a remark that had him pulling on a thread he'd always ignored, Bucky was faced with the knowledge he'd been unknowingly making some innocent person suffer all this time.

And Steve, a YouTuber with a cooking channel, just trying to get by with his myriad of health problems and the constant assault from his asshole soulmate, had just got hired by Pepper Potts to be the new live-in chef at Avenger's tower.

Lip curling, Steve met his pale eyes, hating that he’d ever found them attractive. “You don’t know shit about me, dick head. So why don’t you go fuck yourself with that enormous shitbag personality of yours?”

The asshole just huffed, flexing his arm, clearly trying to intimidate. “Your work ethic says plenty, but hey, I’m not the one paying you, though don’t think I won’t be sharing what a fucking great fella you are—sleeping on the job and backtalking to the people you’re supposed to be working for.”

p much every mainline-connected marvel videogame or those outsourced cartoons end up being mediocre anyways but i get annoyed how bucky's always either not in the IP-ed games or everyone has such superficial personalities and character adaptations that they never have him interact with steve much or in any meaningful way, which is weird bc why even use the IP at that point?

anyways, im just wondering when marvel's gonna see all the critical acclaim bill and frank got from that show and realize that audiences will clap for even a crumb of old men soulmates. its easy money to just sprinkle it into everything that has their IP, those videogames, cartoons, comics, shows, movies. money on the table idk why they still don't take it

I feel that it is fair to be annoyed. If you're consuming the content with knowing the background of past Marvel conent, I get how it can be disappointing. It's gone downhill as they begin to care more obviously about money than the characters themselves.

I don't really know anything about what is happening in Marvel because I don't look at basically any current Marvel content because... well, a lot of reasons, but among them are those out-of-character changes to no-homo Steve and Bucky's relationship you mentioned. I mean, I am thrilled for Sam getting to be Cap. It's a long time coming to have a person of color in that iconic role. But. Just. I'm not expecting great things from Marvel itself because they don't even fucking let their actors do their fucking jobs! Mackie will be great because he's great. But, there's only so many strings to pull on when you hardly know the script.

And as for why they don't even give us crumbs of stevebucky content...

It's about the 🤌🏻homophobia🤌🏻

Like, sure, Marvel would get more money from stucky fans (and likely from queer people generally because we're starved for queer representation in mainstream media), but then they'd lose money from all the conservative, homophobic people and all the people who care about not pissing off (or "offending") those conservative, homophobic people. So. There's no way they'd ever do that 🙃

How It Should Have Gone - I don't think I'll ever get over this fic, honestly. It'll always be one of my favourites, just because I put so much love and work into it. It's about Steve right after he wakes up, if Coulson was put in charge of showing him the future. Steve goes to university, meets some friends, and falls in love.

once upon a december - this one is Winterhawk. it's an Anastasia (1998) rewrite, and it's also super dear to my heart. That movie is one of my favourites, and I was really glad that I was able to write it.

blood on my hands, love in my heart - more Winterhawk! this one is mostly recovery!Bucky. Clint rescues him from Hydra a bit early and steals him away to the Farmhouse. It's soft and sweet (and a little spicy at the end) and it's just nice.

the harder we try, the harder we fall - some good old fashioned ameriwinterhawk soulmates. i was asked for angst, and i think i delivered. soulmarks don't always mean the relationship will work, it just means it has the potential to work.

Shift - ameriwinterhawk again! but this time, werewolves! established SteveBucky, with newcomer Clint who is taught his worth by Steve and Bucky.

I notice that 4/5 of these are written for other people. I seem to do my best work when it's for someone else.
