walking into your home, the sound of giggles and playful screams filled your ears. you caught sight of your little son play fighting tom in your living room. you pouted at the adorable scene in frontof you and you didn't dare interrupt their fun.

it warmed your heart to see the two loves of your life get along with each other. after a while you cleared your throat, giggling when their heads perked up to look at you.

"are you losing a fight to a four year old? i can't imagine how bruised your ego is right now." you spoke up.

your little one shot up and ran over to you hugging your legs as tight as he could. "mommy, i beat tom! did you see me?" he beamed up at you.

“i saw buddy, you're so strong!” you ruffled his hair and pressed a kiss to his head. "can you clean up your toys so we can get ready for dinner?" he nodded and trotted over to the heap of toys on the floor.

"hey love," tom walked over to you, greeting you with a kiss. "when did you get here?"

“a little while ago. i was just watching you two, i love seeing you guys play together.”

"oh darling, i don't think he was playing. that kids got a mean right hook. we should probably get him into boxing." he rubbed his right shoulder soothingly, drawing a laugh from you.

"i'll look into it." out of the corner of your eye you saw how your son, who was paying too much attention to tom to be listening to your conversation, was mimicking toms stance. it made your heart swell knowing that he accepted tom into his life as his father figure.

“tom, he really likes you." you smiled.

“oh, i don't know. we were just bored, didn't have anything else to do." tom shrugged and looked down to hide the smile on his face. hearing you confirm it meant the world to him.

“no, he does. i've never seen him so comfortable with anyone but me. he adores you.”

“really? well, that's good. because i love him a lot, and i love you.”

“Hey, honey, you want an apple or an orange for snack time, today?” Tom asks Anika, your daughter of eight years. She glances up from her fried eggs and buttered toast, the breakfast Tom had prepared for her.

“Uhm… oranges, please?”

“You got it, sweetie,” Tom smiles, zipping up her lunchbox before setting it on the counter. Anika’s seated at one of the kitchen stools for breakfast, waiting for you to come down the stairs and take her to school. You have work directly after, so it’s convenient to kill two birds with one stone.

“Mommy’s almost ready, can you go brush your teeth for me?”

Anika nods sweetly, running upstairs to the bathroom. Tom gathers her school supplies, putting everything in her small backpack before finding her coat on the hook and preparing for when she comes back downstairs.

“Look at you, Anika, all dressed early for school,” You come down the stairs with your work bag and a hand running through Anika’s hair. “You’re very-” You cut yourself off as you see Tom in the living room with Anika’s belongings. You pout your lip out, and she runs towards Tom for a goodbye hug. “Tommy,” your shoulders sag in complete awe. “You didn’t have to come help.”

“Of course I did, love,” Tom smiles. “I know how busy your mornings are, so I thought I’d help get Anika ready. Isn’t that right, sweet cakes?” Tom glances down and Anika nods enthusiastically. You smile again, and Tom kneels down to help Anika put her coat on. Tom gives her one final kiss on the forehead, before handing the girl her lunchbox and getting the straps of her backpack on her shoulders.

“Let’s see how fast you can get in the car and buckle your seatbelt, yeah? I bet Mommy can do it faster than you,” Tom challenges, and Anika shakes her head before running through the front door and towards the driveway. Tom stands up, turning back to you. “Your coffee is in the car’s cup-holder. It’s still hot, so drink it when you get to work.”

You put your bag down for a moment, linking your arms behind Tom’s neck. He’s taken aback by the sudden embrace, but he welcomes it by placing his arms around your waist.

“What’s this for?”

You lean your head on his chest, “Just… thank you.”

Tom smiles softly, though you can’t see it from your position, and his hands give your sides a loving squeeze.

Eventually, you and Tom separate, and Tom walks you to the car, checking in on Anika and ensuring her seatbelt is on. It is, and Anika is raving about how much faster she was than you. You chuckle, sitting in the driver’s seat with a running car and an open window. Tom leans on the frame.

“I love you,” you tell him, and his face softens. He nods, whispering an “I love you, too,” before sending you a kiss and letting you and Anika go about your days.

Readers kids wanting to make a big breakfast and celebration for stepdad!tom since it’s Father’s Day 😭

You felt a small hand on your shoulder, drawing you out of you sleep, your eyes fluttering open to see your youngest son with his small pointer finger pressing against his lips to signal that for you to say quiet. You saw your daughter standing behind him with a bright look on her face.

A small hand wrapped around yours and tugging you out of bed, puling you from the coziness of your sheets and your husbands hold.

"Babe?" you hear Tom's voice call to you as your kids scuttle to hide behind you so he doesn't see them.

"I'm just going to check on the kids, hon, go back to sleep" Tom didn't argue, rolling over and falling back asleep, his filming schedule having taken a lot out of him recently.

Once you got out of your bedroom, the kids started to talk all at once, making your still sleep fogged brain confused.

"Guys, you know this, one at a time" you groan, rubbing your eyes as your kids began to guide you down to the kitchen.

"We wanted to make Tom a father's day breakfast but we don't know how to make pancakes" you couldn't fight the smile the took over your face when they said this.

"Well if you want I can make the pancakes and you guys can make some drawings for Tom" you smiled, ruffling both of your kids’ hair.

"No, mommy, we already made him cards, we want to make him breakfast with you" Gosh, these kids were gonna kill you with their cuteness.

"Okay then, let’s make pancakes," small cries of joy escaping from their tiny bodies as they hugged each other tight, jumping up and down.

You made an absolute disaster of the kitchen and in the process pancakes were also made, as your kids plated the pancakes on a little tray to bring to Tom, you poured him a cup of tea. Your heart melting as you watched your kids bicker about who could carry the tray to Tom, they settled on each carrying one side.

Opening the door for them they walked to the side of the bed where Tom slept, your daughter reaching out and nudging Tom's bare shoulder, bringing him out of his slumber.

"Hmm, whats happening?" he looked at you, his face of misunderstanding bringing you joy. "My birthday was earlier this month"

"Happy Father's Day Tom!" your kids cried in unison, setting the tray down on his lap before running out giggling. There was tears in Tom's eyes as he examined the heart shaped pancakes.

"Father's day" he whispered to himself, a salty smile on his cheeks as he thought about what that meant. The kids came running back in the room, both of them holding some cards that they had made.

"What do you guys have there?" Tom asked, no longer trying to hold back the tears of joy that slipped from his eyes.

"We made you cards" your son spoke, jumping on the bed and setting himself in Tom's lap, after Tom moved the tray. He thrust his hand in Tom's face handing Tom a card that had 4 stick figures on it, each one having a label above it, he read it from small to large, sister, me, mom, dad. His heart stopped as he read over the word again and again, Dad, he was a dad, they had chosen him as their dad.

"See, its all of us" Tom didn't know if he could talk, throat closed with emotion.

"Yeah, I see that buddy, I love it" Tom pulled the boy close into his chest kissing his head rapidly.

"I made you something too" your daughter piped up, climbing up next to her brother and handing him a card that had a flower on the cover, opening it to reveal misspelled words that made his heart glow.

"Bast Dad Evr" was all it said, and it was enough to make Tom crush you daughter in a hug, both your kids in his arms as he kissed their heads.

"We love you, dad" they mumble, once again in unison.

Dad, he thought, I could get used to that, please give me the chance to get used to that.

“Hey I need a favor” You barely opened the door as Tom rushed into the apartment, “Can you please watch Issy while I go to this meeting?” He asked, clearly in a rush. You didn’t even notice the small child attached to his hand. You bit your lip nervously, Issy was still shy around you and Tom had never let you be alone with her. 

“Are you sure you want me to do it?” You asked. He nodded his head, “I know you’ll do a great job, think of it as a day to bond with her” He smiled as he grabbed your hand, “Please it’s just a few hours” 

You glanced at the shy 5 year old who was looking around your apartment. Tom had always been protective of his daughter and you knew that it was taking a lot of trust for him to leave you alone with her. You took a deep breath, “Sure I’ll watch her, it would be nice for her to not run away from me every time I’m at your house” 

Tom sighed in relief, “thank you so much I’ll get back as soon as possible”. He crouched down to be face to face with Issy, “y/n is going to watch you while daddy goes to a meeting so be nice and have fun, I’ll see you when I get back” He kissed her cheek before getting up and turning to you, “she’s allergic to peanuts, her asthma medicine is in her bag, and her nap time is- ” 

“ at 2:15” you interrupted him, “Tom I got this I’ll call you if anything goes wrong, you’re going to be late for your meeting”. He sighed and kissed your cheek, “I’ll be back as soon as possible thanks you” 

You shut the door as he rushed out of your apartment, “So Issy what do you want to do?” She stared at you blankly not saying a word. You bit your lip, “Do you want to watch some T.V?” She ignored you, walking around your living room staring at your paintings on the wall. She pointed to one of the artworks, “that’s pretty” she mumbled

You smiled, “I made that”. Her head quickly turned to you before looking back at the wall. You sighed in disappointment, you really liked Tom and it made you sad that his daughter didn’t like you, but you were determined to bond with her one way or another. “Have you ever painted before?” 

She shook her head as she sat on the couch. Her answer shocked you, your earliest memory was painting pictures for your parents to hang around the house. You smiled as an idea came to you, “Do you want to paint a picture so Daddy can hang on your wall?” 

Issy smiled and nodded as she got up from the couch. “Okay but we need to go to the art store first for supplies” you said as you grabbed her coat, helping her put it on. The walk to the store wasn’t long and the second you entered Issy looked around in awe. She held your hand tightly as you guided her through the small shop, “what colors do you want?” You asked once you reached the paint aisle. 

Issy started at the large shelves, “I like pink” she said as she grabbed the pink colored paint and threw it in the basket. “I like pink too” You chuckled. She smiled in amusement, “I also like green and blue” she continued until almost every color of the rainbow we’re placed in the small basket. 

“Okay next we need to get you brushed and canvases” You said as she grabbed your hand. You could help but wonder if she was grabbing your hand because she didn’t want to get lost or because she trusts you. You quickly grabbed a pack of brushes and a 10 pack of canvases.

When you returned to your apartment you sat the 5 year old on the couch, letting her watch cartoons as covered the floor with trash bags and set up the paint area. “Can I paint that one?” she pointed to the art on the wall, it was a sunflower in the sky, a painting you made when you were a teen. You chuckled, “You can paint whatever you want”

It took a few minutes of her watching you before she became confident enough to grab the brush. You watched in amusement as she smeared the paint all over the canvas smiling with each stroke of the brush. You grabbed your phone quickly, sending a picture to Tom before returning back to your artwork. 

After an hour of painting you both were finally finished, “Can I see?” Issy asked as you put your brush down. You turned the picture to show her the frog you made. She giggled and showed you hers. “That’s so cool” You praised as you set them on the counter to dry. 

“Daddy’s gonna be mad that we got paint on our clothes” She said looking down at her stained pants and shirt. You chuckled “I have one of his shirts you can wear as a dress” She quickly stood up, rushing to grab your hand as you guided her to your bedroom. You sat her on the bed as you looked through your dresser, pulling out one of Tom’s t-shirts and handing it to her. You grabbed a change of clothes for yourself, “I’ll get dressed in the bathroom just yell if you need me” 

She nodded as you left the room. You quickly changed your clothes before going to the living room to clean up. “Can we watch cartoons?” You turned around to see Issy standing tiredly in Tom’s shirt. She was way too small for it but it made her look adorable. You glanced at the clock noticing that it was around her nap time, “sure” You smiled as you turned on the T.V.

You both sat on the couch quietly watching Curious George. You glanced at the small children when you heard a yawn leave her mouth, as she laid down her head landing on your lap. You smiled to yourself, happy that she was somewhat comfortable with you.

Tom was worried. You hadn’t answered any of his calls and weren’t texting him back. He knew you would never do anything to hurt Issy but he was afraid something bad had happened to the both of you. He quickly made an excuse to leave the meeting early and rushed to his car. Thankful that your apartment was only a few blocks away. 

He tried calling you again, his anxiety only increasing when you didn’t pick up. “Come on y/n” he whispered to himself as he parked his car. He looked around his car trying to find the spare key you gave him. 

As he reached your apartment he listened carefully from the other side of the door, only hearing the faint sounds of curious george. He quickly unlocked the door, sighing in relief when he saw the both of you on the couch asleep. 

He couldn’t help but smile at how adorable you both looked cuddled on the small couch. He quickly took a picture before kneeling down, “Wake up sleepy head” he whispered as he kissed your forehead. Your eyes shot open quickly, “what’s wrong? Where’s the kid?”

“Babe you’re literally holding her calm down” Tom chuckled, “You didn’t answer my calls so I left the meeting early to come a check on you”

You let out a deep breath as you rubbed your eyes, “We must’ve fallen asleep watching cartoons”

“Yeah well I gotta take her home my mom wants her to spend the night” Tom smiled as he moved to wake up the sleeping child. “Issy it’s daddy wake up we gotta get you to grandma’s”

She groaned and rubbed her eyes, “But I want to stay” she said in a sleepy whisper. Your heart swelled at how adorable she was. Tom chuckled in surprise, “You can come back another time grandma made brownies” 

She let out a sigh as she slowly climbed off the couch to get her coat, “why is she wearing my shirt” Tom asked in confusion. “We painted today” She said happily as you moved to get the dried pictures. You handed it to the excited child who quickly showed it to her father, “It’s a flower” she said

Tom chuckled, “it’s amazing sweetie, we’ll hang it in your room when we get home”. He stood up quickly pulling you into him by the hips, “thank you for watching her” 

“No problem", You smiled and gave him a quick kiss, “I actually had a great time” You pulled away from him as you felt a small tug on your shirt. You looked down watching as Issy hugged your leg, “Can we paint again?” 

You chuckled, “Next time we see each other we’ll hang out and get ice cream okay”. She smiled and hugged you again before grabbing her fathers hand. You waved goodbye as they left the apartment.

you often had late shifts at work that meant you were used to arriving home to a quiet house. normally by the time you got home, scarlett was already asleep in bed and tom was drifting off on the couch trying his best to wait up for you.

scarlett was yet to warm up to the man you were dating completely. they had their moments together, often when she was sleepy and didn’t have to energy to argue with him, but most of the time she was set on the idea that tom wasn’t her dad and he wouldn’t ever be.

today for some reason was very different though, you entered the house to an unfamiliar loud echo of laughter. giggles coming from your four year old and loud off-key singing from your boyfriend.

you placed your stuff down on the counter before making your way to the living room to see what all the laughing was about.

the sight in front of you made your heart completely melt, your little girl settled in tom’s arms, the man swaying the giggling girl around.

one of her arms was around his neck while her other had her fingers linked in his much larger ones.

he was singing along to the disney song playing through his phone speaker, practically gliding around the room with the toddler in his arms as if the pair were dancing in a ballroom. she was almost screeching with laughter, so loud you weren’t sure how she wasn’t deafening your boyfriend, but it was making him smile so wide that it was probably worth it.

the song soon came to an end, a chorus of ‘again, again’ coming from your little girl.

“no angel, we said that was the last one.” she pouted her lips at him, making that face that she knew he couldn’t resist. tom was a complete sucker for his girls, even when scarlett was having one of her moods. “got to get you to bed before your mum comes home.”

you were leaning against the doorway with a smile on your face, mentally debating whether you wanted to tell them that it was too late.

“but, she won’t be mad,” she whined, laying her head on his shoulder. you knew your bub like the back of your hand and you could tell she was getting tired, but she was just having too much fun to let it end.

“come on.” he placed a kiss to her head, still not noticing you as he led her up the stairs to her room.

tom had been working today, having countless interviews and meetings he had to attend for his latest movie, so scarlett had spent the day at her dads until he could come home.

the house, more specifically the kitchen, had become a mess after scarlett got home, tom having to cook for her after finding out her dad hadn’t.

between dinner and entertaining the toddler for the rest of the night, he hadn’t gotten anytime to actually clean up a little bit before you got home, so now he had that to do in such a short span of time .

he glanced at the clock on the wall, furrowing his eyebrows at the fact that you still weren’t home, little did he know you were actually changing into your pyjamas for the night in your room. you’d snuck upstairs while he’d been tucking lettie in.

“hi there,” you said, startling the man slightly as he wiped down the counter.

“hey, how long have you been home?”

“a little while,” you confirmed, watching his face fall slightly. the corners of your lips twitched into a grin, teasing that you knew your bub had been out of bed past her bedtime. “so, did you have fun?” you asked, wrapping your arms around his waist from behind. he laughed nervously, glancing over his shoulder to check that you weren’t mad.

“if i say no will you be less mad at me?” he asked. you giggled, pressing a kiss to his cheek before moving back away from his body.

“‘m not mad, you really looked like you were bonding.”

a grin broke out on his face, tom turning around so he could properly face you for the first time the early morning of that same day. your arms snaked around his neck, one of your hands threading into the bottom of his messy curls.

“think she’s really starting to like me,” he mumbled, planting his hands on your waist affectionately.
