(press you to) the pages of my heart
four: "come here. let me fix it."
a steggy friends to lovers au (also on ao3)
They were going to be late. Even for them.
(Though Steve would swear up and down it wasn’t his fault. Peggy would swear that he was lying.)
“It’s basically the same costume, anyway. How are you still not ready?”
“I had to send Tony an angry voice note first,” Steve shouted from his bedroom. “Really, it’s his fault we’ll be late.”
Peggy tapped their new and improved badges against the kitchen table. “Pepper’s a natural redhead. It makes more sense for them to be Mulder and Scully. Also, I somehow managed to make new badges, find realistic neuralyzers, and fix my costume before you tied your tie.”
“Well, I got into an in-depth debate with both of them over who deserved a quote-unquote ‘couple’s costume.’ That ate up some time.” Steve walked out into the living room, his eye roll audible across the apartment. “They both had lots of unsolicited opinions, so you’re welcome for sparing you from that.”
“My hero,” Peggy scoffed, grabbing their drinks and dropping next to Steve on the sofa, as he tied his shoes. “Hopefully the party will still be going when we get there.”
Steve sent her an incredulous look, and they both laughed. “Yes, right, fine. It was impossible to even think that with a straight face.”
“Sometimes I still feel hungover from their 4th of July party.”
“Ah yes, the Steve Rogers Birthday Bash, T-M,” Peggy said, holding up her hands in brackets to showcase the trademark with the aplomb it deserved. And because he always glared at her when she did it.
“Yeah, yeah, hilarious. So funny. I’m dying of laughter.” Steve pushed himself to his feet and pulled Peggy up to hers too. “Are you ready, Agent P?”
“What are you saying, Agent S? Don’t I pass muster?”
He gave her a once-over so quick she might have been insulted, if the warm weight of his gaze hadn’t pinned her in place for those few seconds. Her breath caught for an embarrassing moment as his eyes returned to hers. “You look beautiful. And deadly. Perfect, as always—except your tie is crooked.”
“It is not.” Peggy had no idea whether that was true—Steve’s compliments had thrown her for a loop, and recalibrating herself to focus on what he was actually saying was taking longer than it normally did.
He set their glasses on the coffee table and pulled her to their entryway. “Would I lie to you?”
“Yes,” she retorted, but unfortunately her tie was, in fact, listing to one side. “I swear I had it sorted—it must have gotten bored waiting for you to be ready too and decided to relax.”
Steve snorted as she loosened the knot and began to loop the fabric over itself again, but no retort came. He just watched her hands in the mirror as she pulled the long end of the tie through and tightened the knot. But once again, it hung slightly off to the side, and she groaned at her reflection. “These things are bloody impossible. I don’t know how you wear them every day.”
“It just means I have a lot of practice. Come here,” he said, dropping his hands to her shoulders and spinning her around. “Let me fix it.”
Peggy considered the possibility, with Steve’s knuckles brushing against her neck as he re-knotted her black tie, that she was dreaming. Or that she had taken complete leave of her senses. She and Steve were so often in sync—and naturally so, without any conscious thought behind it—that when they weren’t, when they seemed to be in the midst of wildly diverging experiences of the same event, Peggy felt unmoored. Speechless, even. How else could she explain Steve’s efficiency, his apparent immoveabiity, while she was left breathless at the sweep of his hands across her collar? And how was she meant to deal with this new reality, the one where she and her best friend were horribly, perhaps permanently, out of sync, and one wrong word or move could tear everything down?
Steve, oblivious to Peggy’s personal crisis, stepped back and placed his hands on her shoulders again. “There,” he said, a soft smile on his face. “Perfect. As always.”
Peggy placed a hand over the knot and cleared her throat. “As are you, Steve,” she said, relieved her voice stayed steady. “Now, let’s go save the universe. With tequila shots, preferably.”
He laughed and ran his hands down her arms, before taking a single step back. “Yes, ma’am.”

This is the time of year when I like to remind people that this is one of my favorite fics I’ve ever written in any fandom. I wrote it two years ago but I re-read it often.
Art is by the amazing @roboticonography, who was also the recipient of this gift for the 2022 Steggymas event.

Peggy’s life perhaps wasn’t an easy one, but it stayed rather simple. Filled with really mundane things in between a heist here or there. Everything changed when her team decided to take on an impossible job, worth unimaginable money. Death awaited those who crossed Grisha, but what if Peggy’s certain demise at the hands of the most lethal of all is interrupted by a burst of light?
a Steggy Shadow and Bone AU - Steggy Secret Santa gift for @formerlyir 🎁❤
Dear @formerlyir I hope you’re having happy, peaceful time with your family and that you’re all far away from germs that kinda hindered my writing process. I’m sorry to say that the story isn’t fully finished yet, but it will be as soon as possible. For now you get an intro and tomorrow a full chapter. The next one should be ready by the end of the week.
Working on this story is/was extremely fun, because for once I was sure I’m merging two words that my giftee is really crazy about. When I saw that I’ll be making something for you I couldn’t stop grinning ear to ear. Instantly I knew what I’d be making 😆 Hope you enjoy!

I have the world's stupidest idea here that I can't get out of my head involving Stripper!Steve.
Stripper!Steve is hired to do a bachelorette party. He's done this plenty of times before, this is no different until he arrives and realizes mid-dance that this is entirely different.
He knows the person whose staring at him in complete shock, he doesn't care if the music is stopped, all he can do is stare.
Peggy Carter, his ex-girlfriend. The one that got away because they were both stupid and young and made stupid decisions. The break up was on both their parts but the wounds still sting.

Personal review regarding what if…? season 2 episode 8 (spoilers)
No ok, I must admit, the episode was good in some aspects.
Wanda was majestic. Loki and Scott were hilarious and I loved every single moment with them.
Thor was amazing, dark and serious out of loss but still enjoyable, and the crumbs of his relationship with Hela were very nice.
I’ve actually liked Tony for the very first time in my life, probably because I tend to like him a lot more in AUs and fanfictions than I do in the normal timeline.
And then… there were those two.
I will never comprehend why marvel wants Steve to be so dependent on Peggy. And I will never comprehend why, to make him interact with her, they have to destroy or sideline every other relationship he has built, or make his character flat.
Bucky being friends with Scott was amazing, but the fact that him and Steve interacted like two times was extremely disappointing. You’d expect “best friends in every universe”, if you dislike the romantic pairing so much, to acknowledge themselves for more than a few scenes, in only one of which they’re in frame together (Bucky was literally 😐 while his best friend disappeared, come on now).
And the storyline about Peggy coming from another world to save the universe was just… Mbah. It could’ve been executed in another way without including her and it still would have made sense. It really feels like a Y/N insert.
Seeing literally any other character was so good, so fun, and they had to ruin it this way, making Peggy once again the self insert and girlboss she didn’t need to be.
Plus, forgive my constant complaining, but it’s extremely infuriating how all of Steve’s friends were eliminated to put the focus solely on Peggy. Where’s Sam? Where’s Nat? Where’s Clint? It’s not an underrated friendship we’re talking about, a big chunk of the fandom loves the cap quartet or team cap, and after civil war it would have been nice to see them interact, especially after its popularity and popular demand. Outlaw team cap would have been glorious, a good chance to bring back many characters who aren’t here anymore in the right way, and involve characters that are rarely involved in What if in the storyline, for a change.
The treatment of Sam in this series particularly angers me, and even more so in this episode. I understand not involving him in other storylines, but Sam was a big part of CATWS and he wasn’t even in the episode centered on that film. What, because Steve met him while running he can’t be introduced in any other way? And oh, there’s no excuse for this episode. If there was one episode they could have placed Sam in, it was this one. Sam was there in infinity war, where the mess happened, and he should have been with the other avengers in this one.
If marvel wanted to involve someone from another universe so bad, it should have been a Captain America Sam from another universe. Can you imagine the poetry of seeing Steve and Nat again after endgame? Can you imagine having closure with them both, and having fun in the process? It would have been so great.
Another great storyline without involving characters from other universes would have been one where Steve, who touched the time stone, accidentally brought everyone in the past, and he was the only one to remember it. And to go back and prevent everyone’s distraction, he had to recruit the avengers, who don’t know him and don’t trust him but that in the end become his friends and companions. It would have been so interesting to see the original avengers involved in something different from being some side characters or extras in the one woman show that seems to be What if, constantly centered around the same bland, one dimensional reimagined side character. Peggy’s blandness is so obvious in these episodes (aside for some random remarks that made me smile) that literally everyone who’s involved directly with her must be bland like her, otherwise risking to overshadow her.
I don’t think I was supposed to cringe and look away as much as I did during Steggy’s forced scenes, but I did. If they had to force Steggy and Peggy down our throats, at least they could have done something different from the same bland and boring storyline as always. I wouldn’t be as mad as I am now if Peggy and Steve’s relationship wasn’t as bland. I would have preferred an enemies to lovers type of twist or change, where Steve doesn’t trust Peggy and struggles with her because he sees in her a different version of the Peggy that died in that universe. But noooo, god forbid, let’s go with the same old song.
An episode five or ten minutes longer with a better, avengers-centric or Steve-centric storyline would have been much better than what we got.
And given that this was my most anticipated episode, I was very disappointed by it. I hope for the next seasons, if there’s other ones, Marvel will listen to the general complaint regarding Peggy and will give her a break. I don’t think any of the original avengers or relevant MCU characters made as much appearances as Peggy, and being a main focus in four episodes out of nine is ridiculous.

Smile Through Your Fear and Sorrow
Pairings: Ex!Steve Rogers x Odinsdottir!Reader, Steve x Peggy (implied, but can also be open to interpretation)
Genres: Angst, songfic? (more of a story inspired by listening to a song multiple times), Family fic
A/N: Another AU for my popular AU. Basically a "What If...?" scenario where Steve and Odinsdottir break up because he stayed in 1945. However, he returns sooner than what we saw in Endgame. And not alone...
Inspired by ABBA's "Angel Eyes," as well as Charlie Chaplin's "Smile."
Enjoy the angst!

"No!"
"Yes!"
It was the talk of New Asgard now. Last night had been such drama.
"Last night, I took a stroll along the waters, and I saw him with this new woman! They looked very happy together."
Thor narrowed his eyes at the two women discussing this so openly at the bakery like this was entertaining gossip.
"You should've seen the way he looked at her. Absolutely spine-chilling!"
"Was it anything like how he'd look at the princess?"
"Oh no! This was even more intense!"
He had half a mind to lift up his hood and let his intimidating presence put a stop to their conversation. He had more important matters to attend to though. He turned back to the pastries displayed in front of him and pointed at the sweet bread he knew she loved. He hoped it would lift up her spirits for at least a moment.
Yes, it was true. Steve was not only back but has returned with another woman. They ran into him in New York after everything. It was not only a surprise to learn that he was back, but was with somebody else. Apparently, this was someone from his past that he brought back with him after returning the Infinity Stones. Someone he just couldn't be without.
Thor wanted so much to confront them, to at least talk to this woman about how she better be careful. This was all just a game to Steve. Everything might be lovely now, but it won't be long until there's trouble in paradise after realizing who he truly is. She'll be deceived by his charms and be forced to pay the price when the time comes.
Thor thought Y/N would think so so. He thought she might be hurt by Steve's sudden return, but she maintained that everything was fine. In fact, she kept going on with how happy she was for them.
Then the siblings decided to host a lovely gathering to help celebrate Mid-Summer. They invited their Midgardian companions who were very excited to help enjoy this celebration of light, fertility, and music. Even though Steve came and brought along his new female friend, Y/N kept insisting it was all right. Everything did seem to be okay at first, with everyone distracted by all the fun. Bonfires, traditional music, and the burning of corn dollies to celebrate the brightest time of the year were wonderful ways to forget about all worries.
Then last night happened.
On the third and final night of Mid-Summer, the new couple took the opportunity to announce their engagement. That was when Thor witnessed it. It was only for a brief moment, but he managed to spot the tears springing into her eyes and her lips trembling.
A dull, hollow feeling filled his chest as he saw her. Then, a flicker of light appeared. He saw her with a smile and a fresh face, which was nothing like the broken look he just saw. The split second of changing energy was too quick for everyone else to notice as they were in the midst of congratulating the newly engaged couple. He was the only one worried about what she would think, and he finally saw that everything wasn't okay.
Try as she might, Thor finally saw how not-okay Y/N actually was.
To Be Continued...

today's petty fic daydream:
Stucky Regency A/B/O AU
Series of scenes of omega Peggy, oblivious to the fact that she is a third-wheel, believing she's showing her magnificence to Steve, demonstrating reasons why he should obviously want to marry her...
But what she's actually doing is repelling Steve by unwittingly demonstrating, over and over, why she is wrong for him, while (omega? beta?) Bucky quietly goes about proving the exact opposite about himself, sometimes without even realising it.
(And she doesn't notice because she doesn't think he's worthy of her notice.)
Examples:
One - Peggy on a Hunt Day, showing off in a flashy habit, picking a huge heavy horse, cramming it at every single difficult jump and steep hill, full speed. Refusing to accept hints that she is exhausting the poor animal (and needs to switch) until it's weak with fatigue and almost collapses at the end of the day...
Whereas Bucky moves his horse as fluid as silk, like they’re one being, wears a muted brown coat (looks great despite mud!), goes for a tousled/windswept look to begin with so his hair still looks ‘right’ at the end of the day, switches horses multiple times to give them rests between runs, and goes a sensible pace. He also contrives to arrive well ahead of everybody else, despite his slow inexorable speed, because he took clever routes rather than attention-seeking ones.
(Peggy is also keen to be in at the kill of the fox, to show how she can be just as competent as the alphas! Bucky missed it because he was busy herding the dogs away from a busy road, to avoid them getting overrun by carriages.)
Result: Peggy's impractically-immaculate clothes and hair are ruined at the end of the day (boasts she has plenty more!), she is blood-speckled, grumpy from overdoing herself, snapping at everyone, and Steve pities her poor horse.
Bucky and his horse are fresh and elegant, and the relieved grooms are all praising his quiet common sense and kindness to the animals.
Peggy thinks she did something. Steve is not impressed.
Two -
Peggy telling how she kindly condescended to visit her ex-suitor Mr Sousa's new lady, to show how Completely Magnanimous she is in defeat, despite the fact that the woman once worked for a living. As a nurse!
Unaware that Captain Rogers’ mother nursed injured sailors on his father's ship.
(Meanwhile, a servant brings in a note -- it's from one of the tenants Peggy visited earlier in the week... only it's thanking Bucky for re-visiting, to bring them the things they actually needed (which she has no idea or interest in), rather than just bringing what he thinks they should want.)
Three -
Peggy puts out the archery things prior to an afternoon party, and one of her stooges loyally suggests an archery competition.
Peggy humbly, reluctantly, acquiesces to showing off how good she is.
She misses five shots in a row but sinks the bullseye on the 6th and takes this as proof of her skill.
(She blames her misses on, eg. Steve distracting her).
Bucky, mysteriously, misses the bullseye altogether on all 6 shots...
(But when Steve retrieves the arrows later on, he finds 6 horseflies he complained of earlier, skewered on every arrow tip.)
Peggy spends the rest of the afternoon ‘kindly’ consoling Bucky on his failure, while rolling her eyes and scoffing at Mr Barton, for being so pleased with himself for bullseyeing every shot. Just to show off for Miss Romanoff! Peggy would never do that just to impress a man!
Luckily, Captain Rogers is still not impressed.

Pride & Prejudice - Steggy AU
Tumblr media
Coming soon* to an AO3 near you
Born as the second daughter of the Carter family with no rank and no fortune, Peggy has spent her entire life being accosted by her mother to marry well - and marry soon.
The arrival of one egregiously wealthy Mr. James Barnes sends her mother in a particularly frenetic tizzy, determined to make introductions in hopes of setting one of her daughters up with him. However, it’s Mr. Barnes’ mysteriously dour friend that catches Peggy’s attention. She might even go as far to call him handsome - if only his own pride hadn’t mortified her own.
Created for Steggy Week 2023 Day 4: Family and Friends.
I chose this particular story for this prompt because the source material is so family centred!
Thank you @steggyfanevents you’ve created another monster that I now have to write.
Starring:
Peggy Carter as Elizabeth Bennet
Steve Rogers as Fitzwilliam Darcy
James “Bucky” Barnes as Charles Bingley
Natasha Romanoff as Jane Bennet
Amanda Carter as Mrs. Bennet
Harrison Carter as Mr. Bennet
Jemma Simmons as Mary Bennet
Daisy Johnson as Lydia Bennet
Kora as Catherine “Kitty” Bennet
Rose Roberts as Charlotte Lucas
Fred Wells as George Wickham
Daniel Sousa as Mr. Collins
Miriam Fry as Lady Catherine de Bourgh
Dottie Underwood as Miss Bingley
Angie Martinelli as Georgiana Darcy
Colonel and Mrs. Phillips as Mr. and Mrs. Gardiner
*soon is a relative term based on the social construct we call time, that is dependent on varying factors, including but not limited to: muse’s cooperation, time and energy to write, and the writer’s overall potential to be easily distracted by other WIP’s and ideas, as is evidenced by this new creation here.

Y/N: I'm not her, you know. Natasha told me about Peggy. Steve: Don't. Don't say another word. Y/N: I'm sorry about her, Steve, but I have lost people too. Steve: You have no idea what loss is. Y/N: Everybody I have cared for has either died or left me. Everybody fucking except for you! So don't tell me I'd be safer with somebody else, because the truth is I would just be more scared.
POV: Y/N went with Nat to visit Steve after Peggy's funeral. She offered to stay and be there for him, but he shuts her out due to his mixed emotions about everything.
Might make a oneshot based on this. It's tempting!

Let’s Ramble About Steggy
Y’all, I’m really missing the emotional journey of Peggy’s in EG: last time we see her, she’s still fragile over his loss (and tbh, I know she let him go, but I can’t imagine she’d ever stopped loving him more than learned to move on, and there’s plenty of evidence to support that). I want to see the moment she completely falls apart. I want to see the shock, the surprise, the gentle way he comes back—and for heaven’s sake, I want to see him go back!!
Rogers: the Musical is my most favorite thing ever, and their reunion is so precious; but when I saw it in person, I was waiting for her to run up and hug him. I know it’s theater and they couldn’t do that with the buildup and the story they were telling; and I love it the way it is. But I do wish we could get an actual, realistic telling of it. …Hey Marvel, I know it’s a tender, private moment, but could you hire Marcus and McFeely back for just a moment to do a six episode series on Steve returning the stones? Ending with what led up to that dance? Please?
(Though honestly, you should probably go read Dancing at Last by @melliabee. Her telling so so precious and tender and loving, and even though she has an apartment instead of a house in this, it’s the most accurate and detail-oriented telling I’ve ever read.)
