ACT 1, SCENE 4: blue lock headcanons
Tumblr media
shidou would view traditionally ugly creatures as strangely cute. it's not a disgusting cockroach, it's a silly little bug with eyelashes as long as his. no, he's not going to let go of that scraggly one-eyed cat that likely has rabies. it looks too sweet to be abandoned on the streets. his dream childhood pet was definitely a piranha.
aiku wears band t-shirts without knowing the actual music group. no, he does not listen to sex and the pistols, he just thought the design looked very cool. would also wear lana del rey merchandise just to impress the ladies. the only song he realistically knows is west coast, and even then he's only heard it at a random sushi restaurant.
reo would have stereotypical rich people problems. he can't decide if he should bring his chauffeur and valet or actually drive the car himself for your upcoming date. also spends at least one hour seriously pondering over which gucci silk pattern tie looks better on him. trick question, they're both the exact same shade.
shidou steals your covergirl perfect point eyeliner because he thinks it looks way better on him. also a big fan of body glitter and super vulgar eyeshadow palette names. his favorite hue so far is that one hot pink fuchsia that literally burns your eyes with its brightness. nothing is too neon with this man.
ness is the epitome of the sunshine-turned-unhinged-maniacal-killer trope. he would be the bestest boy, but if someone even lays a single hand on you, he’s already plotting their murder. eerily good at hiding bodies but would never divulge his secrets in fear of scaring you off.
shidou would walk unashamedly to the women’s clothing section of the general department store. would never be embarrassed by the bra sizes. you have a double D? he’s already trying three of the cup sizes on just to see if he can get you a comfortable one. if you’re part of the itty bitty titty committee, he wouldn’t judge either. this man loves femininity in all its full glory.
aryu exclusively uses dior beauty. he would rather die than use a generic drugstore makeup brand. sometimes you wonder if he's secretly a dermatologist because this man knows the exact shade, tint, and quality of product for every possible skin tone and type. also very passionate about the controversies behind animal testing and parabens. would be exceedingly picky when it comes to anything he smears on his face (think jeffree star but without the problematic issues.)
sae has his phone screen set to default wallpaper. he only has the translator app downloaded, and that's about it. his personal trainer takes care of all the rest of his stats. after he started dating you though, he kept pictures of you in his private photo albums.
noa cannot tell a white lie to save his life. if he doesn't know something, he will not know something. he doesn't see the point in hiding that. sometimes has trouble reading the room, so you need to remind him that brutal honesty and pure rationality aren't always the way to go. he does become more conscientious after that.
bachira used to draw crayon portraits of all the imaginary monsters he saw at night. scared the shit out of his parents because they thought he was hallucinating (he actually was.) nowadays, he's a lot tamer because you force him to take his meds.
isagi is, in fact, the number one mind reader and manipulator throughout the entire series. this man is clairvoyant, psychic, and telepathic all packaged into one. sometimes his right ear twitches, and he just knows someone is talking about him behind his back. unfortunately, all of this occurs in his head, so no one on the outside world actually knows about his sixth sense.
rin was absolutely bombarded with valentine's chocolates last year, but when he sorted through the entire pile and realized you hadn't given him one, he returned them all to their respective senders. will refuse any form of sweets unless it came directly from you. you need to be there physically to hand him the box.
kaiser writes, thinks, and speaks entirely in german even if no one else can understand him. he secretly can speak english but chooses not to because he absolutely hates anglicization. refuses to compromise his own language and culture just to fit in with the rest of the world. it's degrading. if he had it his way, german would be the new lingua franca. definitely thinks translation is for dummies. what do you mean you're not already bilingual? you better run, not walk, to that little green owl app. does use his foreign accent to make you feel flustered though. has a voice kink but in a non-traditional sort of way. you have to be the one turned on by his voice. only then will he start feeling it.
yukimiya loves it when you lose your shit. one time a jerk cut you off in traffic, and you started aggressively cursing. he fell in love with you right there on the spot. it was something about the fire in your eyes and the way you refused to take any attitude from the other party. that self-assertiveness you exhibit is so empowering.
aiku takes you out to karaoke bars just to hear you sing. you look so pretty under the purple disco lights, belting your little heart out to the rock lyrics. sometimes he has to take a minute to just appreciate how lucky he is to have you.
nagi didn't know that you have to actively check and update your email inbox. he had no clue school even started until one day the principal called his parents over his thirteen student absences. he thinks it's a headache to even get out of bed and put his fingers on his laptop keyboard. since when was the distance between his arrow cursor and the search bar that wide? it looks too long for him to reach. maybe he should just do this tomorrow.
reo does not know what saving money is. the first time you asked him for a promo code, he looked at you as if you had just spouted a strange language. when you showed him your little wallet full of cut-out coupons, he literally had to hold them up to the light and closely inspect them. it was definitely a moment of enlightenment.
sae likes anklets, especially the super thin gold chain ones. something about the way it brushes against his bare leg when you sleep beside him drives him out of his mind. he's also a sucker for subtle jewelry as evidenced by his necklace and wrist bands.
otoya practically lives for instant gratification. he would be guilty of love bombing. loses interest quickly, but sometimes wishes he could actually commit for once. football is important to him because it is one of the only activities he has consistently practiced for over a decade.
karasu is down bad for anyone who can actually outsmart him. you got a higher mark than him on the recent exam? damn, his heart just beat a little faster. spaces out in a love-filled haze whenever you ramble on about your nerdy little subject interests. he is a sapiophile through and through. intelligence just does it for him.
loki is the type of person who absolutely demolishes your self-esteem, and yet you still cannot bring yourself to hate him. when people say god has his favorites, they mean this man right here. he would be an innately talented genius while simultaneously being the most humble human being in existence. at this point, it's not his problem. it's a you problem. try harder next time.
chris is very similar to a neurosurgery resident. he has the largest self-entitled ego in existence. not a single day goes by when he doesn't remind you that he is, in fact, one of the highest ranking football players in the world. you can't say anything about it though because he has rightfully earned his arrogance. i mean, what are you going to use against him? his grueling hours of blood, sweat, and tears? this man works harder than the devil himself. in fact, he is the devil.
rin is the type to get emotionally attached to the most ordinary objects ever. he collects batteries and keeps a separate drawer as a graveyard for them once they die. the triple A ones get a special funeral since they're so hard to find. he just can't bring himself to let go of objects that no longer serve a purpose (just like his relationship with sae, sorry not sorry.)
hiori cannot go to bed unless it is absolutely dark. the curtains have to be closed. the door has to be locked. everything has to be drowned in pitch black. the reason he does this is because he still has flashbacks from that tiny strip of light underneath his bedroom door. his parents would argue all night when they thought he had gone to sleep. it still haunts him to this very day.
nagi wishes he could be a cat. sleeping all day and sunbathing on the rooftop seem like great ways to spend his life. unfortunately for him, he is not a cat. when he dies though, he wants to be reincarnated as one. either that, or a rock.
rin snores like a whole power drill at night. sae secretly hates his brother for that but can’t bring himself to wake him. whenever the itoshi family goes on vacation, ear plugs are not an option but a necessity.
chigiri knows ventriloquism. he used to play with his sister's dolls and make up character voices for each of them. definitely uses it as a party trick or as a way to make you laugh when you've had a bad day.
sae always keeps his feelings to himself. sometimes he finds it easier to rant to you than others, but then he almost always ends up retracting back into himself after realizing just how much he's revealed. he hates being emotionally slutty.
ness is the big scary dog in his relationship with kaiser, not the other way around. everyone thinks kaiser is the intimidating one, but ness wears a leash for a reason. one of them is the chihuahua, and the other one is a rottweiler. you can already guess who is who.
reo was having a mental breakdown in his limousine one time, but he ran out of his usual luxury aloe vera lotion tissues. instead of buying more, he took out his cheque-book and ripped out the pages to dry his tears. money is just paper to him. it can be recycled (no, it can't.)
loki is the type to show you a sweet and heartwarming smile before pulling out the most atrocious uno card combination in existence. i'm talking reverse, wild card, skip, draw 2. you sat there for twenty-five minutes trying desperately to draw a green. by the time you were done, he only had one card left. (screw you, loki.)
niko draws his own manga whenever he doesn't like how the official plot ends. if the canon ever diverges from the way he imagined it in his own head, he will draft his own fan fiction instead. one time, he rewrote an entire shonen jump series just to bring his favorite character back to life (*cough cough* said character wears a blindfold.)
karasu is definitely the "um, actually..." type of student. he will always have a rebuttal on hand. the truth is never black-and-white with this man, and he will argue both sides if it furthers his own agenda. he reads the encyclopedia front and back every night just so he can pull out a random arbitrary fact to win an argument some time in the near future.
shidou had a bad habit of chewing pens as a child until one day it finally exploded in his mouth. from then on, he vowed only to chew glittery gel pens. that way when it exploded in his mouth, his tongue would be stained a bright, shimmery purple. if you ever got him a scented gel pen pack, his life would finally be complete.
rin cannot differentiate between colors. if you asked him to find the difference between bubblegum pink and cotton candy pink, he would not know. to him, seven colors is already a lot to memorize. when he was a child, he only drew pictures with a single color because it was less of a hassle that way.
otoya used to think lime green was the most aesthetically pleasing color in existence. almost considered dying his hair that shade until karasu told him that girls don't actually like guys who look like neon highlighters. still wishes he did it though. he wants to glow in the dark.

Today: finally got my oldest kiddo an ADHD diagnosis and a prescription for ADHD meds. (We’ve suspected he’s ADHD as well as autistic for a while now, but waiting lists and bureaucratic red tape are a thing, so it took a while to actually make this happen.) Later, I went to the post office to check my PO Box and buy a sheet of stamps, and the postal worker at the counter was thee hottest futch, like so hot I was flustered just talking to them. And then after that I went to the drugstore to pick up my kiddo’s meds, and I browsed through the makeup section cuz I really need some new eyeliner, but I couldn’t afford any because eyeliner costs like $10-15+ now?! I had a split second where I considered just pocketing some but being that I am no longer a teen or 20-something, and that I have kids of my own, I’m no longer willing to risk getting arrested for stealing fucking eyeliner.
In general, I’ve been really on top of shit lately. Had some literary contests and magazines I wanted to submit to that required submission fees, so I found an extra little side hustle to make money for those, and then sent them in. I’m very close to being done with the new issue of my zine. I’ve got D. on meds and have also got the process going for him to get other therapies and community help. I’ve signed the other kid up for some art and science classes he’s interested in. I’m considering going back to school for something quite different than I ever studied before, and I sent away for information from a couple nearby universities. And I made a dentist appointment for myself, even though I have hella dental anxiety. (Truly, going to the dentist is one of my least favorite things in the world. I would rather spend an entire day at the DMV than go to the dentist. I would rather fly than go to the dentist, and I hate flying.)
Lol, but I’ve long suspected I’m ADHD but never pursued a diagnosis, and there are some common ADHD things that I don’t relate to, so when I hear those I’m like oh, no, maybe I’m not. But like half the stuff the doc was talking about today I was like: “Oh. Me, me, me again, also me.” So…
And I’m really happy I’ve found a teeny side hustle to pay for submission fees. Now I just gotta find a way to make that sweet, sweet eyeliner money…

The Cutting Floor
It’s summer in San Jose. The May weather is balmy, even in the orange and violet twilight. I’m waiting in line with friends dressed as Gaara and Sasuke for the masquerade near the convention center.
I’m sweaty. My feet are sore. My drugstore eyeliner, so carefully applied in the hotel mirror, is smudged—half gone. I’m so content to be among friends. The soreness in my ankles is a badge of honor I display proudly on my lapel. Proof that I am a dedicated con-goer.
It’s my first time away from home without my parents. I feel grown. I feel free. I am among people who understand me and who love the very same things that I love. Thousands of people just like me.
Gaara says something to Sasuke—makes a joke. My laughter bubbles up from somewhere inside of me. It is full and trilling. It is a child’s laugh because I’m a child.
Gaara looks at me, his gaze is skeptical and sharp.
“It wasn’t that funny,” he says.
And so I trim that part of me away. It no longer fits in the container I keep myself in, so it’s time for it to go. I have to remember that jokes can only be so funny and laughter can only be so loud.
It is my junior year of high school and I am in love with a boy. He plays guitar and looks good in the color blue. He shows me how to read tablatures and I realize I can learn to play guitar, too.
He has a girlfriend across the country. I don’t plan on trying to ruin that. I am a good girl. But I can’t help and adore him even if the feeling is unrequited.
Sometimes we text late at night. It always makes me feel like I am stealing something. There is a sort of precarious danger to the exchange, but a thrill all the same. He tells me he finds me attractive and my cheeks hurt with how brightly I smile at my screen.
Our language becomes formal and surface level after that. I’m a good girl and he has a girlfriend. I’m not disappointed. I feel so happy to finally be beautiful.
I want to experience love, though. I want to hold hands with somebody and kiss them chastely in public. I want people to see how happy we are. It will never happen with the boy and I can be okay with that. We’re friends and I love that too.
I ask him one night why I am still single.
He asks if I want him to be honest.
My stomach lurches. I don’t want him to be honest. I want him to tell me he doesn’t know why— to tell me I’m a beautiful, interesting girl. But now that I know he is not going to say this I tell him yes. I tell him I want him to be honest.
“You are dark and odd,” he says.
I don’t know what he means, but I am too hurt to ask. I scour every conversation I have had with the boy I loved and trim away anything that looks dark or odd. I weep for the parts of me I have had to amputate and cauterize the open wounds on my heart. It is a painful necessity if I ever want to be loved.
I am twenty years old and I am feeling better about myself than I ever have. I’m recovered from a break up that crushed me and I’m playing the field. There’s a man I’m pursuing. He’s eight years older than me.
We’re best friends. We know so much about each other. We have seen each other cry. He is handsome and he seems to like me. I tell him I want to be with him. He says he’s on the fence.
One day in the summer, he rests his hand on the sun-warmed skin of my thigh as I drive with him through town. The windows are down. The wind whips through my bright red hair. I dyed it myself. I brush my fingertips through the undercut I had my hairstylist shave on the side of my head.
He sighs in comfort but takes his hand back. I’m like his sister, he says. I am not convinced. I steal a kiss from his lips in the silence between secrets. He tells me I’m a trouble maker, but he’s smiling. I’m smiling, too. He feels so close to something I can grasp.
Another day comes and it feels the same. But the marine layer refracts the sun in a way that hurts my eyes. I tell him we can work. I tell him we have all the trappings of a relationship.
He rejects me. I am like his sister, he tells me again. He doesn’t want to throw the friendship away. I bring up his hand on my thigh. I bring up the kiss.
“Look at you. You’re wearing braces. The side of your head is shaved. Have you seen the women I usually date? I date models and athletes!” He says.
I close my lips over my teeth and my brackets feel obstructive and foreign. When he goes home, I tell myself I will give myself a day to grieve the daydreams I had been spinning in rose-colored thread. He promises to be my wingman. I tell him about a boy in my life drawing class who has lips I want to bite.
I marry the boy in class instead.
It’s been ten years and I’m married. My best friend is recovering from an abusive relationship. We talk about the expectations her ex had for her, we talk about how she was incapable of following his rubric. She sounds sad and small. I hate it, because her joy is something bright and beautiful.
Her heart is like mine; full of sea-deep love. It is hard to reach the bottom of it. It keeps going.
Sometimes, her sadness turns to anger. It’s a welcome change after so long of being caught in someone else’s tide.
We’re talking one day and I pull out some tarot cards for myself. When I read the message in the cards, though, they seem to be for her. The card that represents her ex stares me down. He disapproves of the message I pass on to her. Good. That means she needs to hear it.
We parse through the cards and she shares a deep sadness that he could not love her for all that she was and all that she wasn’t. I can hear in her voice the frustration in retrospect of being unable to fit into the ideal he’d crafted for her.
That’s when I tell her that she’s not a failure for not contorting her body to squeeze into a box he’d made for her.
Sure, the box may be shaped like her, it may even be her favorite color, or be filled with all sorts of creature comforts that she likes, but a box is still a box. It still limits her. It still is forcing her to be artificially small for someone else’s comfort.
It’s one of the rare moments of clarity I have from time to time; when all of my own aches and traumas crystallize into an understanding I didn’t know I’d internalized. It feels good to say it to her, and it feels good to hear it come out of my own mouth. It feels good because I am also used to trying to make myself small for the comfort of other people.
Speak less, laugh quieter, dress this way, have these interests, get rid of those ones. Every day is a constant series of checks and balances to see if the me I am portraying is the one that is acceptable to the people around me. I see the evidence of everyone else doing the same thing.
Women who claim they're too old for pink and purple hair. Teenagers apologizing for their love of a certain type of music, or their fixation on a hobby of theirs. My clients asking if a look they want to try for their hair is a good one for them.
It strikes me as silly.
In a world where so many of us are trying so hard to make it through every day, why should we apologize for our joy? If our happiness doesn’t come at the expense of someone else’s, why should we be ashamed of it? If our understanding of the world around us has protected us and brought us to where we are today, why should we try to make our own unique flavor more palatable to someone who would never like it anyway?
Is it not better to simply find the people who love us for what we are and aren’t?
It’s not easy. It’s scary and vulnerable. It opens us up to pain that is sometimes worse than it was before. It’s easy to cope with rejection when it’s not the real us they are rejecting.
But when we find the people who love us, and I do mean truly love us, it is the warmest comfort there is.

Which gen II who:
love dupes and drugstore makeup
buy makeup often, and probably have the most extensive collection compared to everyone else's stash and their cats' included
rarely buy makeup, but once they do, they spend a small fortune with the best branded stuff (think of something like super good anti-aging cream/moisturizer from the Dead Sea with collagen infuse and pure rose water)
don't buy makeup, but use them
use them
steal from makeup stores
get into argument with the store's beauty assistant because they know themselves best
Muirne would have no problem with drugstore makeup because she was raised on that
Ishtar has the most extensive collection, but among playable characters it's Larcei (would be Lene if she could afford it)
Altena doesn't buy makeup too often but she does pick well
Lana doesn't buy makeup but she does use it
Patty would steal from makeup stores, obviously
Ares would get into arguments with the beauty assistant because he's buying eyeliner for himself...

people really liked the first nb reggie post and i still have a lot plenty to say so here’s quite a few more nonbinary reggie headcanons. this is part two electric boggieloo. now with trans guy bobby mixed in! (it’s long so i put it under a read more)
- ‘boy’ doesn’t perfectly sit right for reggie like a shirt that fits so tight it sticks to his skin uncomfortablely but ‘girl’ doesn’t feel totally better either. now the shirt is too big that it swallows them whole instead. it’s closer. not entirely an improvement, but it’s not worse. he’s something in the middle maybe something different entirely. not quite a boy. not quite anything. maybe boy adjacent with a fem flare? fitting somewhere snugly in the unconforming spaces in between genders?? it’s hard to say. he choses not to think too hard about it
- but reggie was always drawn towards the idea of using makeup or wearing dresses and honestly didn’t think it was strange thing to want to do. they assumed everyone was like that. but he got caught one too many times dressing up in his mom’s clothes and after while fiddling in her makeup drawer stopped being cute. their dad made it very clear that reggie was an outlier to the norm and so they made sure to tell no one how they felt to avoid hearing those kind of nasty words from fans or worse his friends. always deciding to push their feelings to the sidelines. however some days it was easier to ignore than others.
- at like the very start of the band reggie had already settled into his more punk rocker aesthetic meanwhile bobby (who’s still in the closet as a trans guy at this time) used it as an excuse to dress more masculine in the name of grunge. reggie thinks bobby is the coolest person for openly testing out their boyish style but was also a little envious that bobby could play around with his gender expression more than they could. although it had caused bobby some trouble at home and he’d get harassed after gigs so it wasn’t all great. reggie took to staying close to bobby after shows, sometimes reggie got brave enough to put his arm around bobby’s shoulders and lean in more when they whispered to each other. if reggie’s cheeks go warm whenever bobby gets extra close, well, he’ll ignore those feelings too
- whenever the band plays at all age clubs they always see teens with much more ‘out there’ fashion and reggie silently longs to try out some of the looks he sees in the crowd (one crowd member was wearing a torn silk under dress with big boots and wild makeup. reggie couldn’t tell if they were a boy or girl and couldn’t stop thinking about them off of that fact alone)
- apparently bobby had also noticed them and mentioned how cool he thought they were. alex and luke said they don’t remember seeing them but if they’re rocking out to sunset curve then they must be pretty chill. seeing his band mates be so causal with that sort of thing gave reggie a little more faith that they could just maybe try some of the more feminine looks he been wanting to do
- a week after that gig reggie steals eyeliner black lipstick and mascara from the corner drugstore. lays it out on his bed to stare at it only to hide it in the studio later without ever opening any of it. at least if someone finds it there he can say it belongs to bobby despite the fact bobby has never worn makeup in his life. reggie knows this because bobby actively rants about his mom trying get him to be more girly
- but it’s just reggie’s luck that bobby is the one to find the box of makeup saying if reggie was really going be bringing girls into the studio to at least have them clean up after themselves. reggie notes the way bobby is red in the cheeks and acting more upset then if had been luke or alex to do the same but in an impulsive no brain thinking move has reggie simply say “actually those are mine”
- bobby is silent for a moment and reggie thinks they made mistake. just because bobby dresses like a boy doesnt mean they’d be okay with reggie doing girl things, reggie thinks this while waiting for a tell that he should cut their losses and run out of the studio. but reggie and bobby have always been close. always understood each other in ways that alex and luke didn’t. so before they even turn around to leave bobby asks if reggie knows how use any of the makeup and when they say no bobby adds softly ‘i can show you. if you want’
- that night bobby sneaks reggie into his room and teaches them the basics of makeup. ‘i don’t use the stuff but my mom forced me to learn’ bobby explained holding the mascara up to reggie’s eyelashes. ‘i have a box full of stuff. it’s all ours if you want it’ being so close reggie can see how pink bobby’s cheeks are, soaking in the warmth of his hands while he holds reggie’s face still. ‘i’d like that.’ they mutter back softly
- that night is filled with sharing intimate personal space as bobby does reggie’s makeup. lingering touches and hushed giggles and bobby holds reggie like they’re something important, carefully showing how do eyeliner without poking their eye out. bobby shows them how use the lipstick for a cool under eye smudged look and reggie stares amazed at themselves. bold black eye makeup and shiny pink lips from the lipgloss bobby used for them. it feels good. in their excitement reggie kisses bobby on the cheek, it leaves a glossy lipstick stain on his cheek but he doesn’t seem to mind
- ‘i’m never taking this off’ reggie declares with sudden confidence. ‘you’re going get your pillow dirty sleeping with it. i’ll do again for you when we get our next gig.’ that draws reggie back into a harsh reality. ‘what? no no no i can’t wear this during gigs. what are the guys going think? what if fans stop listening because they think i’m weird?’ bobby shrugs. ‘the guys are cool, you know that. and so what if we lose some fans? i mean, why would we want lame ones like that anyways’ bobby says it so easily like it’s the most obvious thing in the word and reggie relaxes a little at that
- reggie spends the night in bobby’s bed and they’re serious about not wanting to take the makeup off so bobby says if they take it off for bed then he’ll paint their nails tomorrow. reggie almost runs to the sink
- the next day bobby does paint reggie’s nails. a bright red to match their bass. alex and luke take notice but don’t question it. alex observes reggie like he’s looking for something, a tell of some sorts but says nothing. luke notes the paint will chip after a few songs if he doesn’t use a pick. nothing really changes expect that it’s not long before almost every gig bobby does reggie’s makeup (even though he can do it themself now). people think it’s a gimmick. reggie ignores the stares and questions.
- eventually bobby comes out after practice one day. ‘i’m a guy by the way. hope that isn’t weird. oh and i got a gig down by eat and beats’ says it almost too causally like it was an afterthought to mention it but reggie knows bobby and knows he was probably worried himself sick over bringing it up to the band and was playing it cool because bobby tried to play everything cool despite being a dork like the rest of them. the band adjusted fast and it seemed bobby was finally less tense, letting go of a breathe he’s been holding for years now. reggie wishes they could do the same but isn’t even sure there’s a word for people like them
- later alex comes out. he’s gay and nothing and everything changes the same way it had when bobby came out. sunset curve plays behind a gay club a month later. reggie sees a lot people who he can’t tell what their assigned sex is and thinks about that night for weeks after. it was a good show. a tall butch liked his makeup and nails. six months later they play at another gay bar this time reggie wears a long flowing skirt that he stole from his mother’s closet, having dyed it black and sewed red trimming on the bottom paired with his leather jacket and steel toe boots. a street queen calls him pretty
- two weeks later bobby kisses them after a show, tasting of mint and beer, and says he doesn’t care if reggie is or isn’t a boy. reggie kisses back and grins unsure if they’re one or the other. honestly kissing a boy throws them into another spiral of if he is or isn’t straight and what that means. reggie can’t ignore any of their feelings anymore but it feels less scary having bobby with them who can relate partly to the gender struggle + the rest of the band’s support (alex even gives reggie his sister’s old clothes to experiment with and luke becomes reggie and bobby’s hype man for their dysphoric days)
- reggie avoids thinking too hard about most things but decides to reflect a little. he knows he likes girls and guys are pretty great too. and everyone in between are just as catching to his eye. bobby says they’re bi and it clicks for reggie but gender is another story. he knows he likes makeup, the way it makes their eyes pop. likes wearing skirts, giddy over how the fabric sways on stage when they dance and how it feels lose on his hips. but enjoys fitted t shirts and pointed boots and short combed back hair. reggie isn’t sure how be masculine in a way that fits them and is pretty sure he’s doing femininity wrong but does it anyways. he might not know a word for what they are. wanting to be tough and smooth and soft and rough all at the same time but the band don’t question them. just going along with it and he’s thankful. maybe they’ll figure it out later on. maybe they’ll find more people like him. maybe in the future there’ll be more words to help describe who he is but for now they’re doing okay

Random DCMK Things: DCMK Couples Doing the "Boyfriend Buys and Does My MakeUp Challenge"
SHINRAN
Shinichi is familiar with the products and how they are used because he sees his mom use them all the time. Being the keen observer that he is, he has a fair advantage in the challenge.
There will be some teasing. Like "Awww. Your mom really is your first love. Nothing says love like watching a woman glam herself up."
To which Shinichi will deny, despite how true it is and despite the fact that he used to be mesmerized by his mom as a child and now he loves watching Ran glam herself up when they're gonna have dinner in a fancy place. 😂
Shinichi will most-likely stay in the safe zone and go for the natural, no-makeup makeup look. Also because, "Ran's already perfect. I don't want to mess her face up. "
Shinichi will pick a combination of drugstore and highend, but mostly highend make up. Using his memory of his mom's collection as reference. He'll most likely be able to remember the products that Ran uses as well.
He will also be shyly approaching a saleslady for help. "Err. I'm looking for something for my girlfriend... "
Will also be like, "Is this safe? Coz I'm putting it on her precious face. "
Will most-likely buy a couple of backups things, just in case. "I'll buy another shade of this blush and this lipstick for options... "
He will also be overwhelmed by the variety of products to choose from especially for foundation.
Will also be like, "I don't know which foundation shade will match her. Just give me one of each shade."
And the saleslady be like O.O
Casually whips out the golden credit card at the cash out.
And when Ran sees the receipt, she'll be like.... "That's so expensive you didn't need to buy all of that!!!"
When putting makeup on Ran, Shinichi will most-likely be cautious and gentle. Like, "Am I beating your face too hard with thw sponge? Is this brush too scratchy? Are you sure I'm not hurting you? "
Ran almost finds it annoying that he has to ask her like every minute. 😂😂😂
"So, I have to use a brush to put the blush right? But which one there are just so many of these... How do you keep track? "
*picks out the fluffiest, softest brushes always*
Shinichi's least favorite step would be eyeliner and mascara/lashes because, "I don't want to poke Ran in the eye with that thing! "
And his reaction to a lash curler will be like, "THAT THING LOOKS LIKE A MEDIEVAL TORTURING DEVICE PLEASE PUT THAT AWAY!"
Ran be like, "Shinichi, it's just a lash curler..."
But Shinichi will be like, "I don't care. It looks like a murder weapon. Put it away before it kills anyone! "
His favorite product on the other hand will be lipstick. Because it's a staple, it's the easiest and since he pays attention to Ran's lips so much.
He'll also be like... "I know you love this lipstick so much and I love this shade on you so this is the one I bought.
Finished output will be like a 7 or 8/10. With a good overall base, but the eyemake up needs a little more improvement.
KAZUHEI
Heiji will have the least advantage, mainly because he is always out with his dad than his mom. Always observing Heizo dping police work. LOL.
His initial reaction to the challenge will be "Hell nawwwwwww. I'm up for any competition but that!"
Has no particular look in mind. (good luck Kazuha.)
But "Oooohhhh green eyeshadow! "
And "Heyyyy Kazuha you like orange... "
And "This thing says foundation, so I'll just get this one."
Picks out one foundation without looking at the shade.
Definitely picks the wrong shade.
At the check out he'll be so shookt to find out how much everything costs.
Most-likely to draw on box-eyebrows on Kazuha. (Now they have the same-ish brows. Lol)
Powders fluffing everywhere when he puts makeup on Kazuha.
Kazuha be sitting there coughing. Poor girl.
Reaction to a beauty blender, "What is this egg? "
Heiji be like, "Hold still, ahou!" *violently beats Kazuha's face with a beauty blender.
Kazuha be like "Ouch!Stop being so rough!" (insert "That's what she said." meme)
Heiji be like, "But I thought you like it rough? "😏
Also *accidentally pokes Kazuha in the eye with an eyeliner*
"I told you to hold still!" "I am still you're just a dumbass!
Shinichi intervening: "Let me just take this medieval torturing device (lash curler) away before you hurt Toyama-san with it. "
Kazuha found dead after the challenge. "They say no pain, no gain. But all I gained from this challenge was pain."
Heiji at the end of the challenge: "I'm sorry I complain a lot that you take so much time to get ready. Now I know how difficult it is..."
Also, for everyone else's benefit, Heiji's score will not be disclosed.
KAIAO
Kaito has the most advantage, like duh.
Go Glam or Go home.
Highend makeup DA HOUSE!
"I don't even need to go to Sephora. I have everything in my secret KaitoKid lair but okay..."
Aoko be like "Why does my boyfriend have better makeup than me?"
The most-chill, quickest shopping around the store. Doesn't even need to ask saleslady for help coz he knows what he needs. He knows what he is doing.
"Get those fishtail/mermaid tail brushes away from me or I'm out of here! "
"This Shu Uemura lash curler works the greatest." (Shinichi in the corner screaming: "EXPENSIVE MEDIEVAL TORTURING DEVICE!")
Favorite step is contouring. 😄
Glittery metallic shadows! Because he's so extra.
"Look at that highlight. You look like something I'd steal."
More glitter. "Imma make you shine brighter than the pandora gem, baby. " 💎
Obviously gets a 100! Immediatley takes Aoko out for a date after the challenge.

What bath products do you think Effy would use, I kinda think she’d probably use quite basic stuff but expensive makeup and clothes and stuff.
I think it’s probably just whatever her mum buys. I don’t think Effy has a ton of pocket money, especially since she buys drugs relatively frequently, and I don’t think bath products would be important enough to her to steal or save for. And I think her clothes and makeup are kind of like that, too. Her clothes are supposed to be thrifted or high street (and a lot of her costumes were from Topshop), and her makeup is drugstore/pharmacy (we know she uses Barry M eyeliner, for example).

Musical Theater Aesthetics: The Basics
Hamilton: The mingling of dust and sweat, hefty textbooks, that one college sweatshirt, high school girlfriends, red pen on 12pt Times New Roman, Red Bull fueled all nighters, falling asleep on your term paper, bloody noses from fistfights, all consuming hunger, that poem you can’t name but cannot forget, hero worship
Dear Evan Hansen: Crying silently, sleeping through alarms, the school nurse's office, back row at the talent show, checking your phone for alarms that won’t come, looking through photo albums of your childhood, keeping safe distances, board games, the smell of clean linen, the yearning for the ocean
Heathers: Fucking up your eyeliner, accidentally flipping off your mom, eating fruit while you do math homework, scanning lists for your name, scratchy jackets, sweaty handholding, kicking rocks, acne cream that doesn’t work, cherry popsicles on a spring afternoon, graffiti in the girl's bathroom, curly pencil handwriting on loose leaf paper, the sound of music from someone else's car as it passes by you on the road, shellshocked faces, faded red lipstick
Les Misérables: Marble that is past its prime, thin white dresses, stepping on cracked cobblestone, petal-soft kisses, mother's necklace, hearing screaming through your rickety walls, cold sweat clinging to your forehead, biting into a peach that’s a day too ripe, rain hitting the dirt, going to church despite the pain
Be More Chill: Cracked phone screens, stealing bits of your friend's lunch, playing truth or dare, incomprehensible inside jokes, weeds that look like flowers, sneaking out of the house, dancing to music coming from a phone speaker, platonic kissing, pink carnival tickets, dry-erase markers, cassettes, teachers that make weed jokes
Spring Awakening: "Am I gay" quizzes at 3am, the tight air of a local drugstore, staring up at your bedroom ceiling, posters of celebrities, piercing your own ears, kisses under the bleachers, failing tests, pink shag carpets, singing into your hairbrush, starting books but never finishing them, awkward family dinners
Wicked: Inscriptions on the inside of your yearbook, crying happy tears, slick black trench-coats, the screams of protest, staring at pictures in newspapers, eating lunches alone, laughter that drops off quickly, forgetting your own name, being willing to kill for your best friend, being willing to die for your best friend, dancing in celebration, refusing to show emotion
Phantom of the Opera: Intricate lace, voices echoing in cavernous spaces, footprints in freshly fallen snow, blood soaking through black suits, winding cursive on parchment, biting the locket your father gave you, the feeling of being in an inescapable trance, smelling roses but not knowing where they are, candles that have burned out
Rent: Screaming and not being heard, wearing clothes despite the holes, clutching the arms of the guy you think you might love, the feeling of weakness overtaking you, going to parties for the free food, reclining on a ratty couch and laughing until you cry, being able to speak three languages and barely using one, knowing someone who knows someone who knows someone

It would absolutely make my night if you could tell us anything about Sharon and Michelle’s relationship!! X
Aaa okay!! (These were meant to be dot points but my formatting keeps stuffing up and also they’re just super long)
They’re super close!!
Sharon calls her basically every second night while making dinner for herself and they just catch up! However when she started dating Alaska her calls became a bit sporadic which Michelle noticed, but she also noticed how happy Sharon sounded so she knew nothing was ‘wrong’. When Sharon came home for Thanksgiving though she was able to connect the dots! A mother always knows.
Growing up her sister Max didn’t like wearing a lot of makeup, she’s just go for foundation and mascara because she was so shy and didn’t want to draw more attention to herself, but Sharon LOVED makeup so much and was always stealing Michelle’s eyeliners and dark lipsticks. She kept getting pulled up at school because of it and when Michelle came to pick her up from an after school detention about it, Sharon thought she’d be mad but Michelle instead drove them to the drugstore so she could get Sharon her own stuff and then taught her how to apply it properly because Sharon’s liner was dodgey af, but Michelle made her promise to tone it down for school. So they’ve always shared that interest and that is always a moment Sharon thinks of when she looks back on how accepting her mom is.
Their bond is so strong because they’ve been through some turbulent times. Even though both her and Max were on the alternative side growing up, Max found musical theatre and thrived, but Sharon struggled through school and started giving up, even though she was smart. Her mom was her biggest cheerleader though and was the reason she made it through high school, all their angsty teen arguments included. Sharon got her shit together after school because she realised she needed to go to uni in order to leave their town. That’s when she lost herself and got engaged and then got into drugs more than before then broke off the engagement and then came out. She felt so lost, but Michelle got her to move back home for a couple of weeks and it was the best thing for Sharon. She was able to recharge, reconnect with her mom, figure out what she wanted in life. They’ve always been close but definitely the older Sharon gets, the more she cherishes her bond with her mom, which she didn’t think could get any stronger since her teens years but it always does and she’s always grateful 💖

There are only two primers I’ve ever loved. This one from...
Tumblr media
There are only two primers I’ve ever loved. This one from Tarte which is hydrating, and especially perfect for winter, and Koh Gen Do's Makeup Color Base in Yellow ($55).  I actually have a few fancy foundations I love, but this long-wearing formula from Laura Mercier is the one I wear most often. It offers flawless, buildable coverage, it stays in place, and it basically makes my skin looked airbrushed and discoloration-free. (Even when it isn’t.) Not surprisingly, the brand’s matching concealer is just as good. It’s been my go-to for several months now and obviously layers seamlessly on top of the foundation. I know a lot of people don’t like powder, but for me, it’s essential. Despite how many formulas I try, I’ve used this classic from MAC since college. It keeps my makeup in place without altering the color of my foundation or deadening the glowy finish of my makeup. I sweep it under my eyes, on my chin, and all over my T-zone. I’ve never loved cream bronzers or contour sticks, so powder bronzers have always been my go-to. This pretty cold compact from Westman Atelier is a standout and one of the best I’ve tried in the past year.  I love blush, and Nars will always just be it for me. I own lots of shades, but at the risk of being predictable, I couldn’t live without this cult shade. However, Free Soul, Seduction, Outlaw, and Sex Appeal are also always at the top of my makeup drawer. After blush, highlighter is probably my most beloved makeup staple. I’m addicted to multiple formulas—both powders and creams—so I’ve found layering the two to be both strategic in terms of staying powder and immediate photogenic-ness. I start by dabbing on a creamy formula, wait a few minutes, and use a brush to dust on a powder highlighter a few minutes later after the cream has a chance to melt into my skin. I like to use this pink one to enhance the color of my blush. Then comes the powder. This trio from Charlotte Tilbury is perfection and has tons of payoff. (I’m not shy when it comes to highlighter and want my face to glow!) My makeup look is incomplete without eyeliner, and I only ever use liquid formulas. Specifically, this one from Stila is pretty much the only one I’ll touch thanks to its precision, super-inky color, and staying power. I was honestly surprised by how much I loved Glossier’s mascara when I first tried it last year after its buzzy launch. It doesn’t deliver tons of volume, but it lifts, elongates, and separates lashes to perfection. I’m almost never without it and can’t get over how believable it looks.  A former co-worker first introduced me to this exact lipstick shade from Kosås, and it’s pretty much been my most worn shade ever since. It’s hydrating, lightweight, and after you rub your lips together post-application, gives your lips a plush, plump, enhanced look.  Celebrity brow and makeup artist Stevi Christine has been doing my eyebrows for just under a year now, and I’ve never loved any pencil (or product collection in general) more than her own. Ever since I’ve started using this ultra-precise pencil, I’ve been getting tons of compliments on my brows. I appreciate how easy it is to apply and how natural-looking the end result is. Since my favorite more expensive primer is a hydrating, radiance-enhancing formula, I wanted to go with something that promised similar results. When it comes to budget-friendly beauty options, Physician’s Formula rarely disappoints, and I like that this primer is infused with antioxidants and filtering luminescent pearls to help counteract discoloration and uneven texture pre-foundation. It wasn’t quite as hydrating as the Tarte formula, but that said, I was also a hair less greasy by the time I collapsed into my car at the end of the day.  Full disclosure: I’ve actually been pretty darn obsessed with this drugstore formula for a while now. It’s truly one of the best foundations you can get your hands on, and it doesn’t feel or look any different to me than foundations that are way more expensive. I always get compliments on my “glowy” skin whenever I’m wearing. It looked especially fab layered over the brand’s primer. Like my favorite Laura Mercier concealer, this cheaper option from Nyx comes with an easy-to-apply doe-foot applicator, feels lightweight, and delivers long-wearing coverage that lasted (and still looked good) through a strenuous workout. It was a little bit tackier in texture than my fave Laura Mercier concealer and not quite as easy to blend, but overall, not bad for $9.  Since my usual MAC formula is a pressed powder, I wanted to find as similar of a formula as possible at the drugstore. Revlon’s ColorStay collection is infamous and well-loved, so I thought it would be a good bet. It did an amazing job of keeping my makeup in place, and it easily disappeared into my makeup for an invisible and seamless finish. I never thought I’d say this, but I think it might be better than my setting powder from MAC.  Wet N Wild is one of the most affordable makeup brands you can find at the drugstore, but from my experience, it actually boasts some of the most impressive formulas. I’ve had a few of the brand’s bronzers—including this one—for a while now and actually use them regularly alongside some of my other more expensive makeup products. This powder bronzer blends well and looks remarkably believable for a soft, lit from within glow—at a fraction of the price.  I wanted to find a blush color similar to my semi-shimmery pink go-to from Nars, and even though I’d never heard of or tried anything from Essence, this pretty medley of pinks and the $4 price tag was too good to pass up. I barely noticed a difference, loved the finish and color, and now want every single color it comes in.   My makeup artist mom actually turned me onto this epic cream blush from Wet N Wild, and I kid you not, it’s better than many of the super-expensive versions I’ve tried. Hey, if two different generations say it’s the best drugstore highlighter, it can’t be a lie, right?! Considering how much I love everything else from Physician’s Formula, I couldn’t wait to get my cheekbones on this brand-new product—I knew it would look super pretty layered on top of the Wet n Wild stick highlighter. It applies silkily, makes your skin look twinkly and airbrushed in the best way possible, and is a total steal at just $14. It’s a bit more purple-y and white than I’d normally go for (a tad unicorn, if you will), but overall it was still super-pretty and still earned me multiple compliments from my co-workers.  I love that I can count on my spendier Stila eyeliner to stay in place all day regardless of whether my eyes are twitching and watering in front of my computer screen, I’m out with friends for cocktails, or I’m sweating at the gym. So I didn’t want to compromise when looking for a cheaper alternative. This $6 liquid eyeliner from E.l.f. is also waterproof and looked super-similar to my Stila pen in terms of thickness and design. It did a great job of staying in place all day, just as the brand said it would—and the color was a pretty intense shade of jet-black—just how I like it.  CoverGirl’s iconic LashBlast Mascara is pretty much the only drugstore makeup product I’ve loved and worn since middle school. I still use it to this day, but for experimental purposes, I swapped the OG orange tube I usually use for this brand-new iteration that promises longer wear. Touted as sweat-proof, smudge-proof, and clump-proof, I didn’t really notice a huge difference from the other formula (one of the reasons I love the original is because it doesn’t smudge!), but I did find this one was harder to scrub off after I got home from my evening workout. Annoying at the time, but helpful for the long-haul.  There are so many pretty colors and finishes available in this lippie collection from Almay that it was honestly hard to stick to a similar hue as my normal rose shade from Kosås. Alas, I stayed true to the goal and picked out this pretty creamy formula which looked similar when I swatched it on my wrist. It was a little harder to blend (aka not quite so buttery smooth) than my more expensive fave, but the color was on point, and I appreciated the fact the brand enriches the formula with good-for-your-lips ingredients like vitamins E and C. (Just for fun, I topped it with the shimmering pink shade Skip the Gym—sorry, couldn’t resist!) This probably makes me a bad beauty editor, but other than the brand’s famous eye shadows, I’d never tried makeup from ColourPop. So while searching for a taupe-y eyebrow pencil to replace my beloved, I fetched this one while scoping around Ulta. I could barely believe the $5 price tag, and the long-wearing retractable pencil was so similar to my usual. The color wasn’t quite right (I’m so picky), but the overall finish was still feathery, and natural-looking. Next up, 18 beauty essentials that weirdly (but immediately) enhance my outfit.

But I'd def pick mascara first What is your favorite makeup look? I love to do a nice full glam I think it's so fun. I still keep in natural ish though like I don't contour and my eyeshadow is usually fairly neutral When did you start using makeup? Started stealing my moms mascara and pressed foundation in like middle school Your everyday makeup routine? I told you my quick one above. Everyday for like work will be foundation, concealer, finishing powder, brows, eyeliner, mascara. Maybe blush and bronzer if I'm feeling it but probably lot What is your favorite makeup remover? Neutrogena wipes in the light blue package How often do you wear makeup? Not everyday currently because I'm not working. Maybe, 3 times a week? With usually a full glam look on the weekend if I'm going out
