a reason to love

I’ve always been the troubled child,

the one whose anxiety prevented

words from leaving my mouth and

from making connections.

My mouth stayed sealed because

then maybe I could give you a reason to love me.

If I didn’t say anything, there would be no reason to hate me.

Like a pretty person at the airport,

I would stay in your mind,

always wondering what kind of thoughts

passed through my brain like clouds

and which thoughts remained like rain puddles on a cloudy day.

We Are Clique Artists is a project I started three years ago in my own attempt to connect all artists within this band-inspired artistic community. The main goal is to collect logos and signatures from illustrators, painters, photographers, designers, and artists of all kinds and use them as part of a design for a shirt (and poster, this year). Proceeds from the sales of these products are donated to the ASPCA and TWLOHA, two organizations that were chosen by popular vote by those involved in this project.

Year one this project had 55 logos and only 35 shirts sold. The donations to the charities were minimal, but any donation is needed. Year two I stepped on the gas and built the campaign to be much more self sustaining both in its brand and in the quality and production of the shirt design. I picked ten artists that I felt were role models in the community and created a documentary featuring them all. We had 220 logos and just over 300 shirt sales which provided us with over $650 in donation money. This year, I’m looking for even more.

Along with the shirt and poster in 2018, We Are Clique Artists is featuring a mini series featuring a handful of new artists. It is divided into episodes so that each artist gets the time they deserve to speak about their work, how they find inspiration and what this artistic community means to them. I’m hoping to continue this series down the road, as long as there can be some level of funding for production and software costs. There are many artists I would like to give the chance to be featured in this series.

storybook romance

Too much too quickly,

I don’t crave midnight meetups

or boundaries broken before

I even know your favorite color.

But when will I ever ask if

you prefer green or purple

if the chance never presents itself?

Perhaps I’m destined to

remain as I am,
