So if Leafpool joins her friends in the dark forest she'd become a false dark forest cat and I wanted to illustrate what she would look like plus mark some changes. 

The big change is the eyes which you'll see for Owlwhisker after the next few pages. They have half StarClan half dark forest eyes. Also this Leafpool design makes me so happy.

Queer books, day 20/30

This book is in three parts.

In part one, we follow Khai, a young person who although AFAB has been raised by basically fantasy shaolin monks who spend their entire lives training to become the biggest badasses ever. During this period, they learn that they're actually female [thanks I hate it.gif], kill a couple of people, and also meet some gods, who are huge and terrifying and inhuman and amazing. I think running away to be a martial arts monk is basically my dream job.

In part two, Khai goes to the palace to meet the princess (Zariya) they're soulbonded to. (The reason they were doing martial arts training.) As I recall, Zariya is disabled, which is interesting for a fantasy novel. This section has a lot of getting-to-know-you stuff and also some plots, which is fine. I'm not huge on intrigue.

Part three, Khai and Zariya go on an adventure. Really good but felt rushed.

Also there's some (queer) sex in the epilogue, but only a little bit.

I don't know what it says about me that I really associated hard with Khai.

Anyway, lovely high fantasy, interesting gender stuff, great worldbuilding, gods!!! 10/10, go read.

okay for all my fellow lesbians looking to scratch the itch that Gideon the Ninth left you with, may I PLEASE recommend Starless by Jacqueline Carey. The shadow/sun-blessed dynamic is very similar to the cavalier/necro dynamic and it’s just such a good high fantasy adventure.
