Name: Fornax Val'ethtue (or Fyrstyrn [fire star] Dotharl, when thinking of the two naming conventions)

Nicknames: They don't have much nicknames, however friends that know Fornax well enough can call them "Lily" (Delmira especially calls them that, this is because of their association with the flower), otherwise only Ryss gets to call her sea puppy or treasure

Age: 37 (by Endwalker)

Nameday: 5th Sun of the 1st Umbral Moon

Race: Sea Wolf Roegadyn + Xaela Au Ra (au roe, if you will. tehe)

Gender: Non-binary Butch (she/they)

Profession: Outside of WoL responsibilities... bodyguard and marksman

P H Y S I C A L     A S P E C  T S

Hair: Black with a bunch of grey hairs. If it's short, it's spiky and either has the sides and the lower back of it shaved down, or they have their sideburns. If it's longer, then it's generally messy and uneven with a "wild" look.

Eyes: Black sclera, slit pupils, and vibrant orange. Fornax's eyes only glow because their dad taught them how to apply limbal rings when she was young, but never learned how to accurately do it (or when to stop doing it, until there was a full glow) after his death.

Skin: Dark grey, has a black gradient starting at their forearms and goes all the way to their hands. Has a fair amount of scales, though some are broken and ripped off around scars.

Tattoos/scars: Decorated in scars all over their face and body, but the most notable ones are on their face, neck, and torso. Some of her face scars are from saving a coeurl kit from hunters, and briefly got mauled by its mother when returning it (they understood the protective instinct, but OUCH). The scars across their neck and chest was an incident that put them at deaths door, and then a large scar on their side is from... WELL. Ryss. :) Don't worry about it :)

Very important: their top scars!! Those tits: chopped off. Also the end of their tail (that doesn't have the top layer of thick scales) has a bite scar from the Major-General, no one believes them when they say a tiny shark with tiny legs bit them while fishing.

Fornax has a very subtle trail of faint orange stars on their back for a tattoo!

F A M I L Y

Parents: Unnamed Roegadyn mother & Xaela father. Her mom was a traveling merchant of sorts, while her dad was part of the Dotharl clan. Unfortunately, both were murdered while Fornax was young... :')

Siblings: No siblings

Grandparents: N/A (I don't think that far with family LOL)

In-laws and Other: No idea about in-laws, but for other: their lovely spouse, Ryssrael!!! :)

Pets: Befriends every stray and animal that they cross, but specifically, they have a little black coeurl and a baby amaro that follow them around.

Abilities: Very skilled with a rifle and axes of any kind (WAR/MCH combo), though they are in their best element when within melee range. Weaponizes their teeth, claws, and tail as often as they can, and wields terrifying, brutal strength that amplifies when angered or under a need to win and/or survive. Best not to piss off a butch who could pull an entire ship with just them and their partner!!

Hobbies: LOVES cooking and all kinds of hands-on crafts, but specifically knitting and crocheting.

Been Arrested: Several times by the Maelstrom and Flames, mostly when they were a teenager & young adult because of petty thefts and getting in trouble for some of the jobs they took on to scrape by. Fornax has gotten significantly better at escaping and hiding though, which is kinda funny when you wonder, how does anyone lose a 8ft/244cm tall au roe with a big ole tail?

The Guardians of the Whills were great. None of this corpse reanimation business with them. Could everyone just do a slideshow presentation on the Guardians of the Whills? While she was thinking this, Initiate Kestis and his new friend had happily launched into a gruesome and well-illustrated description of the Nightsister mummification and burial processes. Half the class looked terrified. The other half looked enthralled. Trilla wasn’t sure which was worse.

Generally I do not, mainly because I feel like I don't have something to say back. If I feel like there is something to say, I'll comment back.

6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

So uh . . . I don't have a whole lot of finished multi-chapter fics. *cough* *cough* I'm also not super big on angsty endings, but if I did pick it is between these three: The Last Mission, Traitor (which is a four part), and It was Leia. Each has a different type of angsty ending.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Stop making me pick favorites. I guess I'd go with Seduce a Senator (which a smut fic and rated E). Only because I feel like the happy ending is well deserved after everything that happened. Also I feel like Godhood had a good happy ending. But I also write a decent amount of fluff. For example the one-shot There You Are, which has a very sugary ending.

8. Do you get hate on your fic?

Yes.

I've gotten in on In the Past. Mostly people complaining about either how I wrote was inaccurate or wasn't up their personal view of Star Wars. In the first chapter (or two) I mention Anakin and Luke's midicholorian count, and I made Luke the lesser of the two. People hate that. (I do stand by that decision in that I do believe Anakin would be stronger as the chosen one, but that's just me.)

I got a whole of angry comments on Godhood and some on For A Sith to Love a Jedi. Basically about ships and romance. People are . . . very passionate about that kind of stuff . . . and hate when anything goes against their ship.

9. Do you write smut?

Yep.

10. Do you write crossovers?

As in characters from one fandom interact with another fandom? No. I strictly write Star Wars. I may put Star Wars characters in situations based on another fandom like when I wrote a Luke and Vader Anastasia AU.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of. I know I once read a fic from an obvious amateur writer whose fic was very similar to Runaway. It wasn't an exact copy, but it was clear it drew some aspects and inspirations from my fic. I suspect that writer was young and exploring writing. I commented on it saying it was a good fic. I'm not one to get angry about that such a thing that this one thing is "my idea."

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

I translate The Tinies into Spanish myself with the help of a great Spanish checker, but that's the only translation of any of my fics I know of.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic?

Yes, but they've all mostly been due to round-robin popcorn writing games we do in my server from time to time. Where one person writes a bit of a fic then another then another.

14. What‘s your all-time favourite ship?

Padme and Anakin/Vader

15. What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

In all honesty, I don't know. There are some of my WIPs I have permanently shelved and don't intend on ever finishing. (Mostly my old Obikin stuff.) But there are still some that I really do want to finish. I've just been unable to write.

World building, especially with fantasy.

17. What’s your writing weaknesses?

Currently? Writing.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

As in just a whole scene where they're not talking in English and it's not translated into English? I have never done that. I don't think I've even seen that done. Do people do that? I've done a line or two where people will speak to each other in a different language. I then switch the words back to English so my reader can, you know, read them.

Thank YOU for the ask 🥰 Okay so the fic that is SPECIFICALLY about lavender marriage (because I must be honest...I can see them getting married in any and all aus I make) is the stobin Hollywood golden age au. Or: Lavender's Blue, Lavender's Green, Lavender's Everything We'll Be.

This fic is GRAND in scale. It is EPIC. It is the greatest Platonic romance of generations.

I have a particular fondness for multimedia/epistolary type fics, and this one would be. So good for it. Like Photoplay articles or interviews, reviews of movies they made/were in, academic articles written contemporarily and as retroactive analysis.

But anyways in this au the upside down ends in 1935 with the equivalent of starcourt happenning except Hop doesn't die and the Byers don't move. Steve and Robin elope after she graduates in '36, and by February of '37 the two have somehow acquired a diverse gaggle of children. Again. They adopt them, as the children are orphans or abandoned or fell through cracks the Great Depression exasperated.

They are absolutely bizarre in Hollywood and everyone sort of wants to find out more about these two newlyweds who are working as an editing assistant (Robin) and a...general gofer that sometimes does walk ons who miiiight be getting his big break soon.

Anyways in the fifties, after the war, Robin directs her first musical starring Steve called Baseball, Baby! In which the world sees his iconic bat twirl. (Later paid homage to by Ewan McGregor in phantom menace!) And Steve sings about not caring which way he swings. (Think spiritual precursor to I don't dance in HSM2)

There are papers written about the homoerotism of...many of Steve's parts, especially in the war film he made. It's. Not particularly subtle if you are looking for it at all. Icon.

Robin, during the war, helps sponsor refugees get to the states. She also helps fellow Hawkins native Chrissy get back on her feet after her husband goes overseas. Even after, when they find out Jason was killed, the Buckley's welcome her into their home and family. Some of the children occasionally call her mother! How sweet.

As for big brother Steve. Hm. Ah. I think it's going to be snapshots, just little pieces of trying to fit a baby into healing from the upside down. Also Eddie Suffering via Seeing Steve With Baby. It awakened something in him.

Steve cosleeps with baby tintin because 1)good for baby 2)good for over protective big brother who wasn't held enough as a child and doesn't want that to happen. This leads to the very adorable picture of Dustin, busting in as usual and completely forgetting there is a baby in the house, finding Robin and Steve both curled around Tintin. Robin is drooling and slaps Steve. Baby has Steve's fingers in her tiny hands.

And there is a mini fic coming (maybe not so mini:/) for an ask I got weeks ago about the kids of the party bonding with Baby Tintin!! It will come. Soon. Ish.

5. What do you wish someone would ask you about [insert fic]? Answer it now!

I feel like every single question I've ever wanted to be asked about Poe and Volya just like - flew right out of my head, lol. I contemplated something about their Force connection but I don't actually think I've included it yet in any of the fics I've posted to ao3, so I'm gonna go with something involving the "bad au" once again, cos it's something that jumped out to me when I was reading the tlj era fics back to back: the difference in when Poe and Volya both think something's changed between them, and why.

In my hand was the one you reached for, Poe mentions in his internal dialogue that something changed between them aboard the Raddus (which I think is reinforced in an earlier one-shot that @dameronalone wrote) during the events of tlj, but in the fic that's pretty much a direct sequel to that, if we got nothing we got us, which takes place from Volya's POV, she thinks that their relationship shifted after he made it back from Jakku and the Finalizer.

And I think that makes a lot of sense, 'cos although we definitely haven't touched on that specific era yet from Volya's POV yet, the days Poe is missing absolutely are what makes Voy in this verse realize just how much she loves him and just what she's been risking trying to hide that. Unfortunately, her crash course in "fuck I can't lose him, I love him too much for that and he doesn't even know it" gets a follow-up grade in tlj when they get put on separate transports during the evac to Crait....cos I'm. extremely evil.

And then of course, for Poe - they haven't really had the time to *stop* since he got back, until the Raddus, for better or worse (but mostly for worse), so I think that's the first stretch of time that he's actually had where he can notice something has changed for Volya that makes her a lot more open with her feelings than before, and ergo that their relationship has shifted because of it.

29. What songs would be (or are) on a playlist for [insert fic]? Explain your choices if you want!

I mean I have a couple of generalized poelya playlists already to be quite honest - their regular one, and one specifically for the aforementioned bad au. And one somewhere that's specifically songs I think Volya would put in a playlist that remind her of Poe.

But.....the two songs that are just simply put the most Volya/Poe to me, to the point that they could really fit any fic I've written for them, is About Love by Marina and Storm by Ruelle. Their relationship is (obviously) very much inspired by my big ole feelings for Poe, so Poe's pretty much the first/only person Volya's also had big ole feelings for, and I think these songs really capture the "oh shit this is my one exception and oh man what do i do with all these FEELINGS" that Volya constantly feels around him:

37. Promote one of your own “deep cut” fics (an underrated one, or one that never got as much traction as you think it deserves!). What do you like about it?

Okay, my first thought was not actually a Star Wars fic - although there's definitely some fics of mine there that I wish got more traction, and it'd be nice if my poelya ones got a leetol more attention but I'm also not terribly bothered by that because hey I'm writing for myself and my friends and it's fun - it was a crossover Spidey/Moon Knight fic that I wrote in 2022.

Just...maybe not the crossover you were expecting. I had finished replaying Spider-Man PS4, I think, and I was like....this would work really well for a crossover with Moon Knight. It ended up being a blend of the television show and the early Mackay run before I quit reading. It definitely got a little bit of attention, but mostly just of folks wanting a continuation, which I had no plans for. But it's definitely still one of my favorite fics I've written - writing for Peter really is just so much fun.

Not in the traditional sense I think, but I've exchanged thoughts voraciously with @grapenehifics on Half-Pass, and I'm currently collaborating with @wibzenadarksiderwithasoftheart on the new Dancing with the Stars AU (Coming to an Archive of our Own near you soon!)

#20. Do you work on a single project or many at the same time? How does that work for you?

We've very much unintentionally found ourselves in the "many at the same time" space. Turns out that's where "oh, it's just a one-shot" thinking will take you.

If we've got one full-length project we're working on (one we know what the plot is from the jump, like Star Wars AU or Nobody Dies AU), we usually prioritize working there and treat the other, less-planned projects (ones that're mostly just vibes, like Modern AU or John Wick AU) as palate cleansers as needed. But we don't have a full-length project at the moment, so we tend to just hopscotch from one to the other as the whim takes us 🤷‍♀️

#37. Do you research before writing or while you write? Is it fun or boring for you?

I think the answer is...yes? to all of the above?

Full-length projects tend to get a lot of research done up-front as part of the planning stage. SWAU, for instance, we had a whole planning doc for that that was full of planets that might be of interest, relevant points in Star Wars' canonical timeline, characters and organizations that might be relevant, etc etc.

But for everything else, it's kinda "as it becomes relevant". How do you field dress a knife wound? What kind of motorcycle would an assassin use to beat bridge traffic? What's the name of that one kind of gun that does that thing and looks like that way? How long would it take to walk from Chicago to Denver? All that kinda stuff gets looked up in the moment, and usually that research consists of one of us spamming the other with links from a web search.

I don't mind it when it's looking at some basic details (like brands of motorcycles or timeline details), but Tabby is waaaaaaay better at worldbuilding than I am. If you need someone to figure out how to make a space feel interesting and lived in, she's your gal.

11. Three tropes that are fine but overrated:

a. Never really got the mafia AU appeal? Nothing against it, but I won't seek fics out with that one.

b. If this is a safe space, found family is great but it's getting a bit oversaturated in both canon and fanon spaces for me recently. I enjoy it if a character's dynamics don't get sanded down for the sake of camaraderie (canon ghost crew, bargerean jade crew, etc.), but it feels cheap to me if characters just get reduced to "mom", "dad", or (almost worse) infantlized because they got put into the "kid" slot, even as a grown adult. Goes with the himbo bastardization tbh.

c. Enemies to lovers can be fun, but too often I find that the trope can cannibalize characters' personalities (especially when a piece of media becomes a popular fandom), and there's some types of enemies where the transition to lovers just makes me deeply uncomfortable no matter what.

26. What would you describe as OOC?: Depends on the fic. I've seen a lot of posts here lately that emphasize that it's less if a character does something OOC than if an author can justify them doing that and make it believable.

I think that works for more character-focused fic, but no matter what, I tend to look for synchronicity with a character's canon tone of voice and speech patterns (something I struggle with lmao), as well as consistency with how emotionally vulnerable/expressive they'd be in a given situation. If neither of those boxes are ticked, there's a fair chance I might find it OOC.

29. What's the hardest thing about writing?: Descriptions, hands down. Trying to get the feel of a setting and certain mannerisms is something I have to consciously work in every time. Other than that, pacing, probably.

37. Do you research before writing or while you write? Is it fun or boring for you?: Again, depends on the writing. I have a few one-shots I wrote and published with almost none.

For anything that has at least a bit of proofreading, I'll try to make sure certain details are as close to right as I can get them without a canon deep-dive (I went down a rabbit hole for the Fox and Windu fic to see if light switches existed in star wars, for example; or in an upcoming fic, what ship would a First Order platoon would use to touch down on a planet), and try to get a handle on character voices by watching source material, but I don't do a ton of external research into writing technique or super nitpicky canon if I can feasibly tapdance around it.

Also, my favorite headcanon things... And AUs...:

• The whole Legend Xros Wars AU thingy! Because it's focused on Daisuke and Tagiru bonding as mentor-mentee. Totally inspired in some media I watched as a kid, including Power Rangers Dino Thunder.

• Kamen Chef was my favorite dummy story about a mysterious employee in Chef Digitamamon's Chinese Restaurant (y'know, the oned from ep 36-37. Not the one from Adventure!!)

• @ladyofthecastleproject /Lady of the Castle series too, I didn't spent YEARS working on it and co-working with a few peeps to not have it mentioned here ;3;

• Also, for WallDai/Wallsuke fans, I have this AU thingy where Wallace got a third Terri-Lop sibling.

• Also my headcanon that Daisuke is a hardcore Sonic franchise fan, which I swear it's not... projection... I swear... He would love the blue blur ;v;

• Aaand my CSHM AU for 02 Group + Wallace. Which I'm still procrastinating in designing them...

• BTW, my headcanon solo-line for Daisuke's V-mon is: V-mon → XV-mon → Wingdramon → UlforceVdramon I like this line from CSHM game, ok...?

37. coming out fic + 63. everyone knows/mistaken as a couple

so i'm thinking of an gffa au where obi-wan comes out in his early forties and everyone is like very supportive but also a bit like 'we all sorta figured from the amount of times we caught padawan kenobi kissing other, male padawans around the Temple, but good on you!!'

and then they're like 'well wait huh i wonder if obi-wan is coming out because he is in an official relationship ?' and everyone is like 'omg i wonder' so they start watching obi-wan intently to see if his social life has changed--but it hasn't, he still just hangs out primarily with a few friends and his former padawan, his former padawan who looks at him with stars in his eyes and a struck-dumb expression and who always pushes to be closer, which obi-wan always indulges in his own way, even though obi-wan doesn't tend to be touchy in public except for when he's---oh. oh.

so nothing is ever confirmed or anything. no one talks to obi-wan and anakin about it. but everyone knows (or thinks they know) about their relationship, so they're quietly directed into every mission that comes up where they'd need to be a couple/pretend to be married. risk of sex pollen on a planet? that's ok, send obi-wan and anakin, they don't even need the excuse. going to a party? date night for obi-wan and anakin.

after the generals worked so hard in the war, it's the least the rest of the jedi can do. turn a blind eye while the negotiator and the hero with no fear go gallivanting around the galaxy holding hands and kissing and the like.

meanwhile obi-wan and anakin are delighted by all the missions they now have together if not very confused as to why they seem to always be tinged with some sort of romantic plot, as they're not...well. they're not together.

i feel like about 2/3 of star wars fanfic only makes sense to me if i read it with 37 tabs of wookieepedia open to constantly be checking up on the lore i missed by not consuming the spin off shows or movies or comics or novelizations

do you have any fic recs for good satisfying skywalker drama (prequels or original era) where any tie-ins to stuff that's not from the core movies is at a level i could figure out from context instead of research?

oh that is a really good question. so my interest in fics comes in waves and i can only read fics from one fandom at a time and i’m currently on a pjo kick plus i’ve watched a lot of the shows so what i understand needs less wookiepedia so I can’t recommend many new fics and there may be some things that need tv show knowledge but not many, but here’s a couple oldies but goodies:

my absolute favorite star wars fic of all time which has been abandoned but lives in my mind rent free - stand the hazard of the die. it’s a time travel au and it is brilliant.

if blood be the price - au where anakin does free the slaves

It's Like Deja Vu (All Over Again) - another time travel au because i have favorite tropes okay

All We Know is Falling - parent trap AU meet outer space

You can also browse the Anidala fic archive I put together ages ago on my other blog. It is very much in need of updating but it’s a solid collection of Anidala specific.

I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I didn’t recommend my own fics so check out for you, i’ll risk it all for an in star wars universe AU.

LASTLY if you want to browse/read some amazing luke&vader stories I anything by @spell-cleaver is amazing. without a doubt some of the best star wars fanfiction out there.
