This is Siarhei Tsikhanouski, husband of opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya. The Belarusian regime imprisoned Tsikhanouski after he tried running for the presidency against the incumbent, Alexander Lukashenko.
This imprisonment prompted his wife, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, to run instead. The results of that August 2020 election are widely considered to be fraudulent.
Vladimir Milov, a Russian opposition politician and ally of Alexei Navalny, told the European Parliament back in November 2020 that the Belarusian regime did not even pretend to count the votes: instead, they read out a pre-arranged result.
As a result, thousands of Belarusians protested, and have since faced unimaginable waves of repression and brutality. Tsikhanouskaya was threatened with losing the custody of her children, one of the reasons why she and her allies fled Belarus for Lithuania.
Today, her husband remains in prison. On 29 May, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya sent the following message on Twitter:
My husband, Siarhei Tsikhanouski, was imprisoned by the regime exactly one year ago. Determined, courageous, with a wish to change the future of his country – like millions of Belarusians. Our kids and I miss Siarhei every day. But we believe, we can, we will win. Жыве Беларусь!
Free Siarhei Tsikhanouski, Roman Protasevich, and all political prisoners!
Свободу вcем политичеcким заключённым!

So... One of the political prisoners in Belarus today attempted to cut his throat and later wrists with a pen in a court during his trial while crying that if he doesn't admit his guilt (false, ofc), police force will come after his family and neighbours and there are even videos of his suicide attempt, but if not for the fact I'm already invested in Belarus' situation I could have not know about this bcs of the lack of media attention... Okay
Europe, year 2021 guys
(And don't let me even start with how desperate you have to be to try to cut your throat with a pen)

I support Belarus
Poles remember how hard it is to fight for true freedom. We won ours. Now it's time for you. We support you and believe you will succeed.
This declaration will not change the world. but I believe that it will give you strength to fight so that at least one place in the world would be better.

Invitation to participate: exhibition in solidarity with Ukraine and the belarusian opposition movement Statements in Yellow + Blue & Red + White For some time now we, the members of the artist association mehrkunst, have been planning an art action for the summer of 2022 as part of the Rhineland-Palatinate Cultural Summer. This year's motto is "Compass Europe: East Wind" and invites you to look to the east, beyond the borders of the European Union. Inspired by the numerous peaceful protests in Belarus last year, we originally had the idea of launching an appeal and creating a communal art act from many contributions, in the colors red and white as a symbol of a free Belarus. Now events have come to a head, Ukraine has been invaded, bombs are falling on the capital Kiev. Despite the feeling of helplessness and powerlessness, we wanted to react and changed our original concept: let's set a sign together, for freedom and self-determination, with a collectively created art work in yellow + blue and red + white! The presentation of our project will take place as a pop-up exhibition in the city center of Koblenz. After the end of the exhibition, the complete work will be made available to an exile association, for sale or for auction. The proceeds will benefit the people of Ukraine and the Belarusian freedom movement We look forward to your participation! on our website www.mehrkunstverein.de you will find the conditions of participation . . . #staywithukraine #FreeBelarus #StandWithBelarus #opencall (hier: Koblenz, Germany) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ca5Eg9tsjmu/?utm_medium=tumblr

Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics and Riga Mayor Martins Stakis replaced Belarus' official flag with the historical white-red-white on Monday at the Radisson Blu Hotel Latvija where the Belarussian national ice hockey team is accommodated during the Ice Hockey World Championship in Riga. Stakis said that the gesture was Riga City Council's initiative, backed by Belarus' opposition and intended to express support for the people who are suffering under the regime of Belarusian authoritarian leader Alexander Lukashenko. Latvian Ambassador to Belarus Einars Semanis on Monday was summoned to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry where he was told that he and other diplomats working at the Latvian embassy in Minsk have to leave the country. ⚪️🔴⚪️

Today, on the Day of Solidarity with Belarus, my thoughts are with the incredibly brave Belarusian people, who had not given up since August, and together with their democratic leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya are constantly fighting for the democracy, fair presidential elections and the release of political prisoners.
#StandWithBelarus 🤍❤️🤍

Discover Belarus, "the country of nine million hostages," with Belarusian writer Andrei Khadanovich
What is Belarus? What is the Belarusian language and culture? What are the fates of detained activists? What do they fear? Is there hope for a free Belarusian state? Belarusian writer Andrei Khadanovich explains #StandWithBelarus
What Belarusians fear B.B.: How can you live and create in such conditions, when authorities can stop a passenger flight and arrest someone like the journalist Roman Protasevich. Aren’t you afraid they might come for you tomorrow? To be honest, I assume such a possibility. I spoke in interviews a lot, signed public statements, performed during our street protests every day with songs and poems.…
