CARSTOBER 2023 - Day 12
Favourite Spy: Rod "Torque" Redline
Second drawing of my boy Rod for this Carstober, this time I had more time to plan a better and more complex drawing, so I chose to draw him being cornered by two bad guys (not the Lemons though, this is meant to be him in one of his missions before the events of Cars 2) and preparing himself to fight back 😎
Tumblr media
Also, Finn is close second as favourite spy, but I decided not to draw him here bc it wouldn't make sense for him to be in a scenario like this with Rod since they never interacted with each other even in the movie 😅
Anyway, hope you like it ☺️

So I am officially obsessed with The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Starring Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer. It’s my new favorite movie or like say in the top 5. It’s in my I will never tire of rewatching list. And I am in love. The cinematography is great and I think I just love Guy Ritchie’s style. It was absolutely a silly spy movie but seriously they all are silly and that’s why I love them. Henry and Armie or Solo and Illya have the best banter. I also don’t know what it is about Guy Ritchie films but his main characters have to stop seeming like they are going to be in love by the end of the movie and then not being in love. (Sherlock Holmes I’m looking at you too). The plot was less important than the characters imo and I think that’s where this movie shines. Highlighting the 3 main characters and how they end up completing, or not, their missions.
I could just go on for days about this movie. I don’t even have any real complaints, which is rare. The only complaint I have is Solo and Illya don’t get together in the end and that’s not really a real complaint. It’s just me having silly headcanons.
Rewatching I noticed little things that were to clues to later parts of the film that you wouldn’t notice the first time and that was so fun. This movie has everything I love in a spy movie. It’s so good. It deserves way more love and attention than it’s gotten. I don’t know why more people are singing it’s praises and falling in love with this beautiful work of art.

Side note: the show from the ‘60’s stars David McCallum as Illya, who also plays Ducky on NCIS and that brings me a lot of joy even though I haven’t seen the show as of yet. But I love David and Ducky.
Post updated with a few gifs. Also anyone who loved White Collar should love this movie as Solo and basically are the same person. Solo just has a little more danger skills.

Sean Connery and Ursula Andress, Dr. No, 1962
"Set of production stills of Connery and Ursula Andress shooting the first ‘white bikini’ scene, filmed at a private beach at Laughing Waters in Jamaica. The contact sheet shows former bodybuilder Connery fooling around for the camera, and director Terence Young applying blanco to Andress’s belt."

Some Thoughts I have after watching Argylle, Technically some minor spoilers:
Argylle simultaneously the best movie I’ve ever seen in my life and the worst movie I’ve ever seen in my life
Arianna Debose was once again serving and has reminded me unequivocally that I am severely gay. She is stunning, spectacular, and the coolest woman to ever exist in every scene she appears in. Also, the song she sang over the credits was ✨🤌🏻✨
I really appreciated that we had a female lead who looked like a normal healthy woman in her 40’s. She was never called “curvy” and no jokes or reference was ever made to her “weight”. Why shouldn’t she be strong and capable? Why shouldn’t she be a CIA agent? Why shouldn’t she look sexy in a gold dress? Being skinny isn’t a qualification for any of those things.
I know Henry’s hair was iconic but it also made me feel rage every time he appeared on screen
I agree that it’s nonsense Henry Cavill and John Cena did not make out on screen
Dua Lipa slayed in that dress but she did not point her toes during the whirly bird and it ruined the whole thing for me
Let’s go back and discuss Arianna Debose again because I love her and her existence was the highlight of the movie for me. I honestly can’t decide if I like the curly fauxhawke or the braids better 😭❤️
The CGI of the cat was SO BAD
I happened to be drinking Pinot Noir while watching this movie and I thought that was very funny

Argylle
3.5 out of 5 Stars
If you like fun, non-serious, unrealistic spy movies, then this is a great watch. It's absurd, hilarious, and there's intrigue and plot twists at every corner. It is one of the least serious, over-the-top movies I've seen recently. During the last big fight scene, I couldn't contain my laughter. I actually couldn't believe what I was watching. However, the scene was shot quite well and it's very interesting from a cinematography perspective. Most of the movie was very beautiful. Elly Conway's lake house landscape is gorgeous. However, I have to mention in one of the flashbacks the special effects look kind of awful. I don't know if that was by choice because the flashbacks are all fairly stylized or not. It didn't feel purposeful but the effects later in the movie of the exact same thing look really good. There were so many plot twists in this movie it felt like every fifteen minutes we were discovering something new. Most of these plot twists did have distinct setups or callbacks that weren't too obvious but you thought back to them as soon as it was revealed. The twists were also fairly easy to follow and not too convoluted. A huge part of this movie's success is the full commitment of the main cast to the outlandish actions and stories of the characters. I was already a fan of Bryce Dallas Howard but she really sold her role. She portrayed every version of her character convincingly. She and her stunt double did an amazing job with all of the action scenes. For negatives, I didn't like how they did the dialogue switching between the character and the writer at the beginning of the movie. The execution of switching between multiple characters saying the same dialogue was executed much better later in the movie. But overall I really enjoyed the movie and I'm excited to watch the coming prequel!
Side note the cat is so cute.
PS: there aren't too many flashing lights but there is a lot of blinking POV shots. So you'll see what's happening, there'll be a brief moment of a black screen from the blink and then back to the scene. This happens several times repeatedly. It did make my head hurt a bit, so people who are prone to headaches like me be warned.
