i don't actually know whether or not it was recorded/ if they're going to put it online so here is my summary. also if i miss anything and u were there pls feel free to chime in. spoilers obviously!!!

got eight new preview pages (four two-page spreads), not the pages on the macmillan website!!!

ok i will tell u about those pages but the main thing discussed at the panel was how they went about adapting this arc into gn form. the actual time spent in wonderland has been trimmed a lot bc they had to think about what was actually important to the narrative as they are building to story and song.

basically in planning out the suffering game they also really had to decide what the rest of the series would look like, bc whatever they include now is seeding the stuff that's going to happen later.

cam is not in this book. it was implied there's less wheel spins. rowan/ash/sterling get much less screen time

almost half of this book is lunar interlude stuff (pre and post suffering game, INCLUDING REUNION TOUR!!! no word on where it ends but they made it clear that a LOT of thought went into what to include and where to end it, and what that would mean for the next book)

ok so about those preview pages

first one was post-taakitz date with kravitz sensing a lich and the umbra staff shooting at him <3 <3 <3

i thought they were going to show us the preview pages that were on macmillan so when i saw kravitz i was so shook

second spread was magnus visiting the voidfish, which now happens right before they leave for wonderland; the whole beginning of tsg from magnus trying to talk to pringles to him kidnapping those guards to the chimera fight was cut LOL bc it never really got… addressed again in the podcast

angus comes to get him for the mission but magnus has been going Through It (outright stated, they were like. he found out he's a red robe. he would probably not be handling it well. he has eyebags now. LOL) and snaps at angus when angus presses him on what's wrong.

more angus content, he will be investigating what's going on at the bureau more (his scene w magnus ties into this)

same for lucretia! more content/ stuff for her to do

third spread was merle w his kids getting saved by the red robe, is at a carnival instead of a random street this time LOL

last one was the boys arriving just outside of wonderland

travis is the fans' champion when the others get too edit-happy. he's the one who has a good idea of what moments are important to the readers so he's like hey… too far. don't cut that. and then they don't

justin leaves great notes and when they couldn't figure stuff out ben would often say "no it's fine justin will solve this." and he ALWAYS DID

disclaimer: can't promise that i'll have any insights that a layperson wouldn't have, this is kinda just me thinking through the grammar of the language out loud haha.

this post covers the second language and will contain spoilers! it also assumes that you know what the symbols mean already.

(my dictionary is missing some symbols bc i missed part of the gameplay that would've prompted me to fill them in)

immediately, visually just looks different from the devotee's language, which is super cool! reminiscent of runic alphabets, kind of. i'm assuming that's a creative/artistic decision to indicate the 'toughness' of the warriors or something. not sure if the game developers would've put thought into this, but i also wonder if this is a representation of the materials that those people would've written on (w the devotees being more clay/stone based and the warriors being more stone/metal based). unclear!

in the warrior's language, the verbs generally have a diamond shape, though it's not as consistent to identify as the devotee language's line. the people-related words are kinda tall and skinny, with a stick in the middle?? again, the devotee's language was the most pictographically representative of the bunch--the warrior's language is a little less obvious. i interpreted "treasure" and "fortress" as being location-nouns due to their similar triangle shape, but the translation for "treasure" obv doesn't convey that (i originally labeled "treasure" as "treasury"). i also find it interesting that "death" bears so much resemblance to "impure". in my mind, "death" and "impure" are in the same category as the other people-nouns due to the appearance of the characters, but that might just be coincidence. could possibly suggest some cultural beliefs around who or what "death" is tho!

grammatically, this language is also SVO, like the devotee's language and like english. instead of reduplication, we have a plural marker for nouns, which seems to act like an affix (prefix, specifically) rather than a root word. i will say—i'm not a fan of the translation of "impure" and "chosen" and subsequent plurals as "impure ones" and "chosen ones". not a huge deal, but translating them that way makes them seem like adjectives when they're not, especially considering how they translate <plural bottle> as "bottles". just doesn't seem consistent, but it's a v small pet peeve haha. (while writing this, i briefly considered the idea of "impure" and "chosen" as adjectives modifying "one" but we know that's not true—not just bc the game gives us a translation that says "plural" but also it's used with "warrior" and other objects to indicate plurality too. we also know that this language uses prepositive modifiers from sentences like "carry (the) small crate", so "impure" and "chosen" wouldn't be functioning correctly as adjectives anyway, as long as we assume that the language is consistent in this aspect of grammar.)

although this isn't entirely consistent across all of the languages and for all of the words, it seems that there's a trend that function words (as opposed to content words) tend to be visually simpler--this would include things like "up/great" from the devotee language, pronouns, and i'm also going to go ahead and include "not" and "plural" in this category. this isn't an unsurprising trend--i feel like in irl languages, the more grammatical a word/word component is, the simpler/easier to write it tends to be. we find that the plural marker in the warrior, bard, and alchemist languages are all relatively simple, which also makes them easier to identify when encountering them for the first time. i felt like this also makes the warrior's language interesting, in that the words for "small", "big", "bottle", "trolley", "call", and "moon" are also all relatively simple compared to the rest of the words. (i originally identified "small" and "big" as "this" and "that" because of this.) it might indicate something about the importance of these words in the warriors' culture? or i might just be reading too far into it lol.

questions that remain unanswered: - i wonder why "fear" breaks from the other verbs in terms of appearance (with the vertical line making the diamond part smaller) - i'm a bit too tired/impatient to go through the verbs in this language, but i wonder if there's some pattern to their appearance (since some of them look more similar than others)

i love the BNHA fandom with my whole heart (heartussy) and will (and HAVE) happily get into fights about how it’s just a passionate fanbase and that any popular media is gonna attract the same but the ONE, the ONE thing i will agree with the haters on (or rather, give the haters as free ammo bc this never occurs to them) is that western fans have the WORST entitlement and manners when it comes to fucking LEAKS. twitter and tiktok have been UNBEARABLE today because everyone is either reposting the leak pages (which are still very much illegal, japan does not fucking play with that!!!!), colouring them and reposting them or already pumping out fanfart, and tagging it all under spoilers. spoilers are NOT the same as fucking leaks. they are TWO SEPERATE THINGS. we call them leaks because the leakers have to pay money in order to access the pages before the magazine is available for public sale. people go to jail for this. it is illegal. and beyond that—it’s fucking rude!!!!!! volume 40 didn’t go on sale until today, but for the past week twitter has just been shared pages from it—i’ve seen fans who live in japan try to gently remind their part of the timeline to please not share the pages, because we don’t exist in a vacuum—we share our fandom spaces with other fans in other countries!!!! and like, okay, you could make the argument that this is just fandom culture with BNHA now. but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t suck balls!!!! and i say it’s entitled because it’s always the same like, mega-fan accounts that start it, you know? the ones that are big Bakugou stans or otherwise shippers or the powerscaling dudebros and i get it on one hand, i do, it’s that like… excitement, right? there’s your favourite character and oh look! he’s going through it!!! or oh look!!! something is happening that could be taken in a shippy way and yayyy it’s so inspiring and fun/horrible and angst, let’s celebrate/mourn! but it’s just—it’s boring!!!! it’s boring, i find it boring. by the time the chapter’s released properly, no one ever wants to talk about it, because they’ve already had that conversation over third-party translated, paraphrased summaries. like?????? idk. it’s not part of the fandom that’s ever going to go away unfortunately, and i am complicit in it because i also read leaks but like—at this stage it’s a self-preservation tactic, because the alternative is to literally just not be online, or block half of the fandom!!!! and i don’t want to do that!!!!!! i want to be apart of things!!!!! i just want this fandom to be better at them!!!!!!!! ugh. everyone sucks LOL. love u tho i prommy… even when u annoy me LOL. 🫶🏽

1. English IS NOT my first language and I'm not fluent in it. Therefore, I write the stories in my native language, and then I translate them with the help of Google Translate. Any spelling errors should be explained by this.

why is there so much ship content between sato kido and kano?? are they not adoptive siblings?? theres even some in semi canon (i think) contents like in anthologies too,, i mean not surprised it exists since weird people are in every fandom but its talked so casually here

with momo and hibiya too actually! because of the huge age gap you would think it wouldn't be such a casual ship but it somehow is?? as far as i seen anyways

im putting it under the cut bc it turned out kinda long and into a rant, and also to warn i mention the themes suggested in the ask (incest, age gaps)

basically it's no secret that in japanese media, incest and age gaps are widely normalized even today so just imagine in 2013 when kagepro was at its peak.

back then, kido and kano specifically were a WIDELY popular ship. here's the thing with the weird kano and kido (and seto too but mainly kano and kido) shipping, aside from what i said abt normalized incest and shit. kano and kido (and seto) being siblings is actually... sort of a spoiler? it's not revealed early on.

kano and kido are presented as 2 kids the same age living together and having different names. and they purposefully stop acting like siblings. SO it doesnt register until you get into their backstories. they're both adopted into the same family when theyre like... 7 or 8, and were friends before becoming siblings so people were able to use this excuse: "OHHH THEYRE MORE CHILDHOOD FRIENDS"

now that i mentioned it. hibiya and momo. ough. idk man. people were properly weird with this one. because with kano and kido they at least made up a damn excuse. with hibiya and momo there was nothing. but the thing is, jin is entirely to blame here. absolutely fucking disgusting bro. unlike with kano and kido, with hibiya and momo he actively wrote it. in the third novel their chapters together or any of hibiya's chapters are actual fucking torture to read. i wont go into details if u havent read it but like there are Reasons i never recommend kagepro to people.

A lot got lost in translation, but this quote of him is written like a short poem in the original text.

If you understand Vietnamese (or Japanese, Chinese) you'll see how this quote sounds so glorious and powerful in those languages in comparison to English. I think the one above is fan translation? The jist is there, but there are a lot to break down from this "poem".

In Vietnamese it's like this:

"Nghìn năm không ngừng (1)

Long tranh hổ đấu (2)

Hợp tung liên hoành (3)

Với cái thế giới nguyền rủa này" (4)

Because Vietnamese can directly translate Chinese to the exact character, the syllables from both language might be more similar than Japanese. The first 3 sentences have 4 syllables, which can be a base for 4-character poems in our languages (this is also affected by the translator's skills of word selection, so thanks Trùng Roi again for this!!)

Direct translation:

(1) A thousand years, non-stop

(2) Clashing between dragons ("long") and tigers ("hổ")

(3) [I can't directly translate this, I will note this later but it does have to do with wars and alliances]

(4) In this world full of curses

For (2), the "clashing between dragons and tigers" can simply means "the fight (or tug-of-war, in the translation) between the giants", because dragons and tigers have long been the image of the strongest animals in the legends. Also, when I look up the VNese term "Long tranh hổ đấu (2)", this movie "Enter the Dragon (龍爭虎鬥/Lóng Zhēng Hǔ Dòu)" comes up in the results (because that is exactly its title in VNese):

Which might be a coincident or not when Yuki (and by extension, Todo) has had her poses taking references from Bruce Lee, so this is really fascinating. (and see the 3rd character is also within Itadori's name too) I won't be surprised if Gege took the poem's references here, he seems to like Bruce Lee.

The (3) sentence is particularly difficult to explain. In the translation, it is "the capricious alliances and betrayals" but the original stems from 2 opposing war tactics by the ancient Chinese during the Warring States (475 - 221 BC).

"Hợp tung liên hoành" is a combination of 2 tactics "hợp tung" (合縱/hezong) for the vertical north-south alliance and "liên hoành"(連橫/lianheng) for the horizontal east-west alliance (please note that Japanese and Chinese characters might be slightly different in writing). The hezong alliance is opposed to Qin state, and the lianheng alliance is an ally of Qin state. I'm not going to go further into history but basically, the sentence amplifies what Kenjaku has gone through in the past thousands years ago, where they experienced the brutal wars, saw alliances being made, saw sides opposing and betrayals happening, saw the states got broken down and the heavy process of it, and knowing how The Warring States happened, it's much much more jarring than the current fight they're having. They've "lived through" such periods, showing the extensions of their intellect and experience in comparison to Tengen. Basically, this is some kind of advanced mockery and show off that Tengen can never be on his level, but Kenjaku lives up to it tbh lol.

Anyways! those are just my thoughts because I really like that "poem" and it sounds way heavier than the English translation. JJK has long been said to be a difficult work to understand even by the Japanese readers because of his complicated choice of words, so I'm a bit sad a lot of it gets lost in translation. Gege obviously does a lot of research on plenty of references in order to write this up, so I hope more people are aware of his efforts.

Sadly, no. 😭 In the reality of this fictional universe, a tragedy very much did happen and Dino and MC are very much suffering from it 🥲 (I will not stop you from imagining that it was all a dream tho, we all have different ways of coping dklsjfsklj <3)

~ What's the main purpose of the game? Why are they doing this? (this one asked by @diamondyjh)

OKAY SO to start off you need to know that this au was heavily inspired by an episode of a podcast called "The Magnus Archives", specifically the episode “Binary” (transcript here). [If you're a fan of horror, I highly recommend giving the episode a listen/read, it's delightfully creepy — you don't need to have listened to any of the other episodes to understand it (just stop at the ending 'supplemental' part)]

The episode goes into detail about this sort of digital urban legend/creepypasta/copypasta about a guy named Sergey Ushanka who, long story short, tried to upload his brain/consciousness into a computer because he was afraid of death and wanted to try living forever virtually. There are tame versions of how he did it and other much more brutal ones, but basically "Sergey Ushanka" is a prank that various coders/programmers like to pull when making chatboxes in which you could talk with "strangers". It would start out normal and then steadily devolve into something creepy. This paragraph taken directly from the episode transcript sums it up very nicely:

"But then the responses start to break down, become more sinister, and keep referring to how much pain Sergey is in. Eventually, the only response the bot gives you is screaming and pleas to be released. The idea is that the chatbot is Sergey Ushanka’s mind, and he doesn’t like being in a computer nearly as much as he’d hoped."

So the idea that I stole from the episode essentially was: but what if it was real? What would the reality of being turned into cold, unfeeling data feel like? Agony is what the episode posits. Here is a list of phrases that the Sergey in the episode uses:

cw: vague body horror, blood mention "the angles cut me when I try to think" / "it peels my mind like knives" / "it feels like thinking through cheese wire" / "there's no feeling, but the no feeling hurts" / "it's cold without blood" / "the maze is sharp on my mind"

My next thought process was: What happens after? If someone were able to survive this process and were somehow able to keep any kind of agency, how would that person try to get out of the digital hellscape that has now become their existence? After knowing what it feels like to become distinctly inhuman, wouldn't they do anything to feel human again?

And how do we feel human? How do we find connection with each other and our humanity without ever having to come in contact with another person?

Stories. Fiction and non-fiction alike, we are all connected through storytelling, by finding feeling through other people's words. The thing about stories, though, is that they aren't messy in the same way that actually feeling our feelings is. That being human is.

So what does all of this have to do with the purpose of the game?

Essentially, when it's all boiled down, in this universe the story of Sergey Ushanka is real, and in this universe he is trying to gain his humanity back by stealing that of others. He started off with stories, with whatever online libraries and resources and archives he could find across the internet. And while it wasn't even close to enough to satisfy him, to get rid of any of the pain he was constantly experiencing, it was enough for him to learn, to grow, to realize that if he wanted his humanity back, he needed to go to the source.

So he started stealing real people from the real world, with all of their messy feelings and emotions and humanness.

That is the purpose of the game, why "they" are doing this. (pls don't ask the how bc i don't have an answer for that, just -waves hands- you know, insert your supernatural/sci-fi explanation of choice sldkflksj)

Essentially, the other characters/bots/whatever you want to call them are a kind of amalgamation of all the previous players who got sucked into the game. Once someone's been... let's call it absorbed, whatever parts of themselves are left after the process basically get shoved into whatever "character" they fit best, sometimes different pieces going to different characters.

And while the pictures could just be random ones, I like the idea that they're taken from the most recent players that got absorbed :')

~ Why was Changkyun evil? (asked by @junhui-recs)

Well, the main reason he was "evil" was because he's, y'know, a part of the game and the game is trying to steal people's souls or whatever. As for why he's mean, that's because he's trying to trigger an emotional reaction. The more messy, human feelings that are happening at the time of absorption, the better :').

BUT to answer your question, in the story, Dino says that Yeonjun gave it to him and that he got it from "a friend of a friend of a roommate". Because the absorption and the consequent complete erasure is such a big process, not everyone who plays gets sucked in. In fact, most people who play don't get sucked in. Which is why Yeonjun is totally fine! (And why the friend of the friend of the roommate, aka this universe's irl Changkyun, is not 🥲)

This one's a little bit complicated. It's kind of a yes and no situation? Generally speaking, the game isn't looking to ensnare every single person who plays because 1) it takes A Lot Of Effort to take/erase a single person, and 2) the game needs to spread to other people somehow, thus it needs people to play it and then tell other people to play it too.

For MC specifically, though, it's hard to say. How they played the game didn't matter so much as how they reacted to the game, specifically the first phase(s) of the Mnemosyne Protocol. The whole point of the game is to get big, messy, emotional responses, so if MC hadn't had such a big reaction, the game probably would have turned out differently. That being said, if MC had played the game as blandly as possible, the game might not have ever decided to test out the Mnemosyne Protocol, so. *shrugs* Do with that what you will lol.

Sadly, nothing special happens if you finish the game 😭 Plenty of people finish the game and pretty much go "huh, that was cool I guess" and then move on with their lives after telling their friends about it. This can be said about all four games mentioned actually, since we only see one of them get played.

As for a sequel... almost certainly not 🥲 I'm not going to give a hard no/no forever, because who knows if I'll end up getting another idea/get suddenly struck with inspiration, but... it is Extremely unlikely. Another story in the same universe??? ...still not likely, but slightly more likely than a sequel lol.

But no, that's not the case lmao. And while I am a huge sucker for the Power of Love being an unstoppable force (ESPECIALLY when it's non-romantic love!!!), the reason Dino and only Dino remembers is thanks to sheer luck and a glitch.

So, in episode 28, MC drops their phone when meeting their brother and in episode 29 we see the alert ".|| MNEMOSYNE PROTOCOL COMPLETE ||." show up on a cracked screen.

The final phase of the Mnemosyne Protocol is the erasure portion, and the reason players get erased instead of just like, disappearing is because their "essence" is basically being transferred from reality into this digital realm of Sergey's existence. And reality, because it's now lacking an entire person and their history, just kinda... rewrites itself to make sense with the missing gap. Think of it as the universe doing like a sort of reverse autocorrect.

But because MC's phone got broken in the middle of that transfer, there was a slight glitch in the process. A glitch wherein Dino, because he was on the opposite side of the globe when this was happening, got accidentally missed in the autocorrection process. If he had been in Korea (or heck, anywhere within a few thousand miles) when this happened, he would have forgotten MC as well.

So long story short, Dino was just extremely (un?)lucky 🥲

Well, sad news here friends. Most of what's left of MC is now stuck inside the game. They got absorbed and are now a part of Sergey's dataset and will be used/distributed into "characters" as needed.

Notice that I said most. Because, thanks to the glitch, the part of them that was connected to Dino didn't get transferred properly, and now that part of them is kinda stuck — it no longer exists in the real world, but it also didn't get fully absorbed into the game.

Which leads me to the next question:

~ Did reader turn evil and try to pull Dino into the game or is it the game itself being evil and impersonating reader to lure Dino in? (asked by @diamondyjh)

When I wrote the original version of this, the answer was a kind of combination of both — MC had gotten absorbed and corrupted by the game, so while it was the MC reaching out, they were doing so because it was what the game wanted.

But in this version... It's actually neither! Which I think would normally be a good thing but I think in this instance actually just makes this sadder oops.

So, the epilogue isn't the game impersonating MC and it isn't an "evil" MC trying to lure Dino in, it's actually just the part of MC that got stuck during the glitchy transfer. This is why the messages show as being from "Unknown" instead of the phone number associated with the game. And the reason what's left of MC asks Dino if he wants to play a game is because that's the only way it knows how to connect with anything anymore.

Basically, this sliver of MC that's left is experiencing what the original Sergey went through when he first "uploaded" himself, but instead of reaching out to anyone through a chatbot for help, it's reaching out to the only thing it "remembers" about humanity — Dino.

...I honestly didn't mean to make this story any sadder than it already is and I'm glad that the epilogue by itself just reads as spooky/freaky as hell instead of, well, this. 🥲

It pains me to say that there is no longer an MC for Dino to reunite with 😭 The part of them that got absorbed by the game is, well, a part of the game now. And the piece of them that's left and trying to reach out to him? Well, like I said, it's just a piece.

There could potentially be a chance for him to find some closure here, but that's about it I'm afraid :')

002 with Ochette?

Ochette, my beloved (some spoilers in the "wish would have happened" and "headcanon" sections at the bottom):

How I feel about this character: LOVE HER, LOVE HER, LOVE HER, she's my favorite character from the game, which was unexpected since I didn't have any strong opinion on her going in, aside from a vague sense of apprehension since "animal people" tend to end up being poorly-to-clumsily written fantasy racism allegories in a lot of fantasy stories I've come across (which wasn't entirely off the mark for how the beastlings were handled by the writers overall, but there's enough okay to decent writing here that I still think Ochette is one of the most compelling characters with a ton of potential complexity depending on how the text is interpreted).

All the people I ship romantically with this character: No one, but mostly for lack of any romantic chemistry with any of the other characters, main or NPCs. Which is really funny considering I headcanon Ochette as kinda sorta basically pansexual, and she's one of two characters from the main playable cast that I don't headcanon as some variation of ace. I definitely think she's had crushes before and will probably find a partner at some point in the future of her life, just...not from any of the named characters we meet in the game.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: I think she remains on good terms with all the other main characters even when they go their separate ways after the story concludes, and I just love how varied the dynamics she has with everyone are. Love her dynamic with Mahina/Akala too, Ochette and her bestie for life. I also think it's possible that Ochette takes over for Juvah well before he dies, and that he acts as her mentor/advisor for a bit while she gets accustomed to the role of island warden, but that he also enjoys his early retirement--and once Ochette's really grown into the role, Juvah begins to dote on her a bit as if she was his child/grandchild.

My unpopular opinion about this character: I think Ochette gets done dirty by the writers and general fandom. Moreso the general fandom than the writers, since I've seen a lot of fans write her off as the goofy, childish genki (fox)girl, and despite the writers also kind of doing this, her canon writing at least has the potential to be read as deeper than what appears on the surface. I'm of the opinion that she's actually one of the most emotionally intelligent and mature characters of the main cast, and that she's actually way more in tune with all the other characters than even they realize. Like, she knows who she can joke around with and who's a bit more serious, and where everyone's personal boundaries seem to be, and often it feels more like she's navigating a cultural/linguistic barrier than being naïve or childish (in my opinion). I mean she's totally got a lot of energy and is goofy at times (i.e. "PARDY-HARDY!!"), but that's not the sum total of her character either.

As mentioned earlier, all the beastlings kinda suffer from iffy writing, bc it seems like the writers were genuinely trying to explore the "what if there were people who had literal animal characteristics; how would their communication be different, how would their physiology be different, etc." questions, but the writing veered into a lot of tasteless "island savage, noble savage" tropes, which...kinda happens a lot with animal-people in fiction. So I'm not trying to hand-wave the racist tropes or anything, but it also seems like the writers made an attempt (however poor) to give the beastlings a culture, and that culture's different enough that part Ochette's character arc and interactions with other characters can be read as her translating what she encounters to try and make sense of it, or otherwise trying to translate her own experiences in a way so that the others understand her.

(i.e. the "girls talk about love" tavern banter, Ochette doesn't really understand what the other three are talking about at first bc they use the words "like" and "love" which honestly, in English at least, have several meanings and would be confusing to someone coming from a language where the differences between the English definitions of "like/love" were more obvious; but when Throne mentions loving dogs and how they wag their tails, Ochette draws the connection that they're talking about "like/love" the same way a dog who's wagging its tail likes someone bc it's implied that beastling communication is more like animal communication--i.e. based on body language, scent, etc.--and so after doing the mental translations Ochette's like "oooh, gotcha, yeah that's super embarrassing for me when that happens" as she does understand what the other girls are talking about even if there was a slight disconnect about what topic they were discussing at first).

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Would have loved to see at least a conversation or something between Ochette and Temenos regarding the Dark Entity and Roi's last words bc there's...a lot of unpack there for the two of them. Also I think Petrichor should have appeared at least once in Ochette's story, I think it would have been interesting to see how the two interacted, especially since they're supposed to be narrative foils. Like the "dark hunter" gets name-dropped a few times and then we never get much past that, and Ochette's so focused on finding the creatures of legend that she doesn't do her own investigation or anything, which leaves it all sort of...way too open. I kinda wanted to see Ochette have a reaction to the memory at Toto'haha's flame as well, the way Partitio and Hikari react to the memories they see at the Crackridge and Hinoeuma flames like...you're telling me Ochette saw the Darkling maul the person who had tortured it for years and doesn't have anything to say on this? After how her battle with the Darkling ended??

a headcanon: Hmm, aside from things I've already written...I don't think Ochette met Ori until waaaay after the events of the main story arc. Like I know all the traveler arcs are kinda separate in the sense of like, "no, the second Prince of Ku who currently has a hugeass bounty on his head is not apparently just sitting on the bar stool next to Partitio as he talks to the richest man in the west" or anything like that, but we do get the travel banters and insofar as I can recall Partitio never has a travel banter with Ochette where Ori gets brought up. I feel like that was intentional given Ochette's ability to clock exactly what is going on with a person given their scent (she figured out Osvald was still a loving father before he did, she could smell the shadow in Hikari, she could smell Claude's evil on Pirro's tomb, etc.) so like, I get why Ori isn't present around Ochette (although imagining a "Hey, Pardy, that girl smells like Sadness Incarnate" would be a crazy conversation that could have existed), but it also means she was apparently just...doing other stuff and literally managed to miss Ori Every Single Time which is wild. Like I can imagine Partitio telling Ochette about this weird girl who keeps popping up seemingly out of nowhere, and Ochette's just so frustrated bc she wants to meet Ori but keeps missing her, and how do they keep missing each other when Ochette can track a squirrel halfway across a gulch.

Speaking of Partitio, since he comes out of his Ch1 coming straight out of a poverty-stricken town and lifestyle, I imagine he's really underweight when he joins up with the others. Given that Ochette's the main hunter/provider at her home, she probably just shifts those duties to making sure the party is well-fed, and was extremely concerned about Partitio when they first meet.

Also she gives nicknames to everyone...except Temenos. Going back to my "Ochette seems to be in tune with everyone and know their boundaries" thing, I think this might indicate that Temenos just doesn't really do nicknames for whatever reason. I'm thinking Ochette had a conversation with him about this (maybe suggesting a few nicknames that he shot down, and she got the sense that it made him uncomfortable--although Throne gets away with calling him Detective, but that's also a far cry from like, Temmy or Tem), and she respects his boundaries enough not to push the issue. Although on the topic of nicknames, I think it took her the longest to come up with Hikarin (and by longest I mean maybe a few extra minutes as compared to everyone else), simply because nicknames for "Hikari" aren't as intuitive.

#I genuinely think there's a lot of merit and depth to Ochette's character #but I am also aware a fair bit of her and the beastlings' writing has some issues #anyhow I took forever to write this but thanks for sending my favorite girl I love Ochette lots and lots and lots #kelbunny #I still don't have an ask tag #ask game

did u read pb novel before watching? i think you should decide on reading first or not depending on how you enjoyed pitbabe. my stand in novel is a lot of angst, piles and piles of tragedy for our unlucky protagonist, some non-con, lil dubcon but i think the writing is exquisite, i was really hooked and my stand in novel actually got me out of a reading slump so it's a very good read (not like some badly translated thai novels i swear)

ansjka no i got spoiled (on purpose) a bit at first and then after deciding i’ll wait people wouldn’t shut up in the tag/would even reply to my posts with spoilers??? so i kinda got both the best and the worst of holding out to read it bc i still could theorise and be right surprised but i also knew about Certain Things beforehand, which made it easier for me (so i was disappointed but not surprised) but idk, what i liked most about pb wasn’t even in the novel so 😭

my issue is i tend to like adaptations more bc the novels i’ve read are usually not that well written/translated lol but also while i tend to care more about characters and their thoughts, emotions, and reactions to things etc (which would make novels the perfect medium) they’re usually more ig surface level there? idk why i’m being so vague but i’m thinking specifically about word of honor/faraway wanderers, that was… so bad. i definitely should have read that one before watching the show for sure

i do like seeing how they adapt something i already know, specially when what made me interested in it in the first place is one of the actors of the adaptation, and i like to mix and match my canon between different iterations of the same story, but idk if that will take from my enjoyment of watching the show not knowing what’s going to happen… and this is how i end up going in circles and not knowing what to do 🤡

darcy's short ramblings about side order

spoilers ahead ofc, im not holding back from anything so be warned

so i beat side order to 100%. every palette is done and i got every colored chip so that the collection is done. i guess what im missing is just the collectibles and a "hackless" run, which i will do in the next days (i need a break for today.. ive been playing side order for 10h today and yesterday it was over 15h).

here a lil list of things i enjoyed:

agent 8 content and lore !!! shes my fav agent (excluding agent 3 as shes now the captain) and i loved seeing her in almost all cutscenes !! i was super happy to see that she was part of marinas dev diaries and that she had her own weapon palette (that has its own unique design to it when u go to the menu !). thanking the devs for finally showing more of the relationship 8 has with oth

pearlina canon (u cannot deny it)

acht/dedf1sh lore ! loved loved loved finally getting some more info regarding acht , even if some info is wrong (im guessing its a translation error)

the environment. god the environment.. i love the aesthetic that side order has, from the square outside to the lil training room u have before entering the elevator. the stages are cool designed, especially the background stuff and overall just love the scenery of the dlc

the music. THE MUSIC. ear blessing, so so good

gameplay. huge fan that the devs took a leap and made a campaign with a totally new perspective of gameplay. i had so much fun playing thru the tower with different palettes, thinking which ones would fit best for my weapon and playstyle

but even with all these positive things i do have some stuff i dislike (? dislike is a pretty strong word for this):

not enough lore. i know we got SO MUCH lore bits, but i wished we got more. be it from more dev diaries, flashback cutscenes or sth

length of the dlc. this is sth that has so many ppl disappointed and i kinda get it ? the dlc is to be played several times (since its a rogue-like), but i wish the thing would be just a tiny bit longer. i finished my first full run in 2 1/2h (and that with the fact i had to re-do the tower all over again bc i died at floor 27), and from then on i just replayed it all with the other palettes i got over time. oe was longer in a sense, and i wished side order was like that too

story. now dont get me wrong, i LOVE the story of side order with everythign i have. but if i compare it with how i felt with octo expansion, it just didnt quiet hit the same. oe was a pretty emotional dlc to me (i cried at the end credits), while side order just.. didnt give that. i shed a tear at the end credits of side order, but not fully cried like i did for oe. i wished it had just more, power more emotion yk? but like i said, i still love love love the story !!

tone change from the first concept trailer we got. the first ever trailer we got made side order look so, odd and creepy in a way ? and i wished they stayed more with that. i love the aesthetic it has rn ! but i also wish we got more of that cryptic vibe

i love side order with everything i have inside of me. ive been waiting for it since it was announced back in february 2023. and im happy we got it. im thanking the devs for creating such a wonderful dlc.

probably my Post-SkSw fic for my Aftermath series . I have restarted this fic 3 times now and I just have no idea how I want to structure it, what I want the tone to be, things like that. Everything I put down never sounds right. Also I just don't have time lol

Dialogue for sure.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Character's inner monologues and scene transitions, I think. I find inner monologues interesting, but I don't think I excel at making them interesting for the reader. I tend to give too much away. As for scene transitions, I find that when I write them they come out very short and rushed.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I usually don't do this because I'm just not a fan. in my world everyone in Hyrule speaks perfect American English lol. jk but kinda not. it's just not something I'm really thinking about when I write? and if I do include other languages, the main character(s) are usually oblivious to it and I don't include actual syntax. I'll just say "they muttered something in a different language" or something similar.
