"Back on my Destiel bullshit"

See, it's the cinematic choices like these that convince me destiel wasn't an accident or something added last minute, it had build up and it was sprinkled all over the narrative.
It's Dean grieving so much, in a way he never grieved for familial figures like Bobby or John—there is enough pain inside him that it shattered his belief that what he and Sam did was right, as hunters protecting the common folk. When, in times of multiple Armageddon-level crises and then some, that belief is what held him together. Because hey, we may have lost people (so, so, so many people) but at least it was for the greater good.
None of that, absolutely none of that, because this loss made him feel that the job wasn't worth it anymore. This was where he drew the line.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's Dean, literally gaining back that light in his life when Castiel called.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And, at the end of the episode, there are slow, dramatic close-ups between Dean and Castiel. Because Sam's grief wasn't the same as Dean's, so Sam's relief at finally having Cas again is different from Dean's.
This moment belongs to them. To Dean, who's finally finding his faith again.

Caretaker
Castiel & Winchester!reader (platonic)
Requested by Anonymous
Synopsis: You get to meet everyone’s favorite Angel, and the two of you become besties.
Warnings: kinda strays from canon in places, I don’t have the episodes memorized guys.
Tumblr media
“You take care of her, ok?”
Up to this point, Castiel hadn’t taken much notice of the youngest Winchester; she wasn’t one of the vessels, so she was in no danger, and of little importance.
But at Dean’s words, Cas finally seemed to see you. You were just a kid, growing up around so much danger. And now Dean was placing you in his care.
“I will,” he promised both Dean and himself.
You didn’t say a word as Dean and Sam left. You understood why they had to go, and you had to stay; they were trying to hide from Michael and Lucifer long enough to formulate a plan, but if they were found, you would be a liability. You knew Castiel was the most capable being to protect you, but seeing as you didn’t know Cas very well, you weren’t exactly comfortable with this arrangement.
You didn’t know when you would see your big brothers again; aside from hell and Stanford, rarely had a day gone by where you weren’t with Sam and Dean.
“So what now?” You asked finally, and Castiel seemed to snap out of his daze.
“Now I take you somewhere safe.”
The day passed uneventfully, which Cas took as a good sign. What wasn’t a good sign was the fact that Cas couldn’t think of a single thing to say to you, and he could tell the silence was making you antsy. Well, that and the fact that your brothers were on the run from two archangels.
He found a motel in the middle of nowhere to stop at, and he waited rather impatiently while you got some sleep. The further he could get you from Sam and Dean, the safer you would be, but Dean had decided non-angelic modes of travel were safer, as archangels weren’t that familiar with backroads and crappy motels.
Cas woke you up early, surprised when you seemed exhausted—wasn’t four hours enough? That’s what Dean claimed he got. You followed Cas regardless, although your eyes were drooping before he even started the car.
For the next several hours, Cas couldn’t shake the nagging feeling that he was forgetting something. He kept doing a mental checklist—he had you, you’d slept, you’d showered, you had your phone, you had extra clothes—but it did nothing to rid him of the feeling. The last thing he wanted was to mess this up, the boys had been so reluctant to part from you. What was he doing wrong?
“Castiel?”
Cas turned his head to look at you when you spoke. He had barely heard you, as you spoke slightly above a whisper, your voice timid and hesitant. Were you scared of him?
“What is it?” He asked.
“I—um…I-I know we’re in a hurry, but, um…could we get some food?”
Oh no.
“I knew I forgot something,” Cas hissed under his breath, sighing in annoyance. You, who hadn’t been able to make out his words and only saw the annoyance, instantly backed off.
“I-I mean if there isn’t time I-“
“No, no,” Cas insisted. “Of course we have time, you need to eat. I’m sorry, I forgot.” A thought crossed Cas’s mind. “Did you eat yesterday?”
“Um…no,” you replied, still timid.
“Why didn’t you say anything?”
“I-I didn’t want…um, I know that you’re-you’re trying to help me get away so-so I, um…”
You seemed unable to form full sentences, and Cas once again wondered what he was doing wrong to make you so nervous.
“If you need anything, I want you to ask,” Cas interrupted.
You just nodded and went back to looking out the window. Once Cas got you fed and back on the road, he made himself a promise. He had to do better, even though it was awkward and he had no clue how to talk to you. Clearly the silence of the last two days had made you nervous, so intimidated by the angel protecting you that you didn’t even want to communicate basic needs.
“I’m sure we’ll have you back to your brothers in no time,” Cas began.
You smiled weakly at him. “Yeah. And you can get back to your angel stuff.” You ducked your head suddenly. “I’m-I’m sorry you got stuck babysitting. I know you’d rather be finding a way to defeat Lucifer and Michael with Sam and Dean.”
Cas was silent for a few seconds.
“Well, it’s true I would like to help them. But keeping you safe is more important.”
You scoffed, “Me? Why?”
Cas was surprised. “We all care about you. We don’t want you caught in the crossfire.”
“And why would an Angel care what happens to me?”
“Because you’re my friend.”
That brought you up short.
“I…I am?”
“Of course.”
“I-I thought…” again you were unable to look at Cas. “I-I just kinda thought that you agreed to this to placate Sam and Dean…be-because you need them on your side.”
Cas wasn’t sure whether to feel bad for you or be offended. “You thought that?” He could tell that his hurt was bleeding into his tone. You noticed it too.
“I-I mean you’re an angel,” you quickly explained. “You have way more important things to worry about than me.”
“So…so you thought that I didn’t care about you…and you didn’t blame me for it?”
You just shrugged.
Cas didn’t know what to say. He most certainly couldn’t just fix your self image issues, he wasn’t equipped for that, but he could at least assure you of one thing.
“Well it’s not true. I do care about you, and that’s why I’m here. I want you to be safe.”
You didn’t respond, but Cas could see the smile you were trying to hide.
Something clicked after that. Cas didn’t know what it was, or how it happened, but suddenly the awkward silence between the two of you disappeared, replaced by non-stop conversation.
He told you all about heaven and some angels that had been his friends, you told him all about your human experience, and explained to him some general human things that he still hadn’t managed to grasp.
“So…tweeting is no longer just about birds?”
“Nope, now it’s an internet thing. I don’t think we should get you into that, though.”
“That’s probably wise,” Castiel agreed.
All too soon, things changed again. After a couple of weeks on the run, you again became withdrawn and quiet. A whole day went by without a single word spoken before Cas finally decided to address the issue.
“You’ve been quiet.”
“Yeah.”
When it became clear that this was the only answer Cas would get, he persisted.
“What’s the matter?”
“I’m worried,” you sighed. “And I…I miss Sam and Dean.” Cas heard the strain in your voice when you mentioned your brothers.
“They’re fine, they called just last night. I’m sure you’ll see them again soon.”
“It’s been weeks, Cas, and we’re no closer to an answer. It’s starting to seem like…like we’re just gonna run until we burn out.”
“You can’t think like that,” Cas said.
“Why not, if it’s true?”
“It’s not,” Cas insisted. “We have to have faith.”
“In what?”
“In Sam and Dean. We—you have to trust that they’ll to anything—anything—to get back to you. They’ll find a way, and you’ll see them again soon.” Cas promised as he pulled the car into yet another motel. He stepped out, and you with him. You were quiet for a minute before—
“Hey…hey Cas?”
“Yeah?”
You hesitated, staring at the angel for a moment before making a decision. You lunged forwards, wrapping your arms around your new best friend.
“Thanks.”
Castiel smiled as he brought his arms around you, holding you as though he could hug away all your worries and loneliness.
“Of course, little one.”

Comfort | Cas
Summary: You've been suffering from nightmares recently, and call upon a certain angel for comfort.
Sorry it's a little short compared to what I've written before! Hope it's still okay! Based on this request here, thank you!
Word count: 722

You thought that nightmares were a thing of your past, or even what your day-to-day life is now.
Obviously, you wouldn't be living a somewhat normal life without them, of course, but it doesn't mean they absolutely frighten you half to death. You awaken, your heart feels like it is about to pound right through your chest. The dream itself felt so real, your eyes dart around to ensure that you're completely safe. You sigh in relief, forcing your eyes shut, and your hands covering them. "Please, God, just one night of sleep. That's all I ask." You moan, rubbing your eyes and then your face. "I beg. Just one night." You try to make yourself comfy again when there's a very quick whooshing sound coming from the front of your bedroom door. "Hi."
You jump, rapidly pulling your gun from under your pillow, and pointing it toward a man in a trenchcoat. "Jesus, Cas," You startle, lowering your gun. "You terrified me." You say, sitting up in bed. "Sorry, Y/N. I heard your prayer. You're struggling to sleep?" He says, cocking his head to the side. His eyes wide and full of sparkle. The feeling of comfort has suddenly taken over you once Cas' presence had been known. He's always managed to make you feel safe and protected, even when he's not around. You have always had a deeper connection to Cas compared to the Winchesters, but that didn't mean you loved them any less. It's just that your feelings towards Castiel are different... and they didn't need to know that.
Cas takes his coat off and hangs it on your door handle. His shoes as well. He pads over to the edge of your bed and faces you. "Yeah, the past few weeks have been difficult and I don't know why. I genuinely don't remember the last time I had a good night's sleep," You say, and his eyes lower to the sheets, then to you. "I want to try something." He says, looking up at you. His gorgeous blue eyes complimenting his features in the dim light of your bedroom makes your heart flutter. "Y-yeah, of course, what is it?" You ask, keeping your voice lowered. If either of the brothers heard that you've got Cas in your bedroom right now, neither of you would be able to live it down.
"I um," He starts hesitantly. "Is it okay with you?"
"Yeah, it is." You say, unsure of what his next moves are. He gently gets onto the other side of your bed, he leans back, one leg over the other. He places his arm under you, and gently moves you to lay with him. Your brain has all sorts of thoughts and questions right now, but it's best to leave it. "Do you... like this?" He asks, sounding unsure within himself. You grin. "Yeah. It's comforting."
"I've watched enough movies to know that this is what people in relationships do." He says, you look up at him and his eyes are shut. He looks content, and then he opens his eyes and moves his gaze onto you. Feeling nervous, you cuddle yourself closer to him, avoiding eye contact. Something like this happening definitely didn't cross your mind for what his plan was.
Your whole body relaxes at his touch. He slowly, but gently, moves his hand down to stroke your back. He keeps his gaze on you, a simper that never seems to fade. His tender demeanour puts your mind at ease as you place a hand on his chest. "You're so warm," You mumble, inching closer. "That's a good thing, right?" He says, and you nod "Mhm."
You calmly place your hand against his cheek, stroking his face. This time you make eye contact with him, and all he can do is stare at you lovingly. He's clearly enjoying this time spent with you, as it's not very often (if at all) that this happens. You reach up to him and give him a peck on the cheek, moving your hand back down to his chest. He turns over to face you, pulling you in so your head is underneath his chin, breathing in his faint smell of cologne. He cautiously rubs the bottom of your back as you both drift off into a deep sleep together.

One Big Family
Team Free Will 2.0 & Winchester little sister!reader, John Winchester & daughter!reader

It was impossible, crazy, ridiculous.
But it was also happening. After over twelve years, the Winchesters finally got to see their father again.
It wasn’t what Dean had meant to wish for, but he couldn’t bring himself to regret it, especially not now, with what was happening in front of him.
You, his twelve year old little sister, were basically meeting your father for the first time. You were mere months old when he died, so you knew him from pictures only.
After everything had been explained to John, his first request had been to re-meet you. Sam had gone to your room to explain what was going on, and when he returned Dean and John watched as you shuffled along behind Sam, his jacket gripped in your small fists as you hid behind him.
“That’s her?” John breathed, and Dean turned in surprise to see tears welling up in John’s eyes. “She…she’s so big.”
“It’s ok,” Sam whispered to you, trying to coax you out from behind him. You peeked around him to see John getting down on one knee to be less intimidating.
“Hey, sweetheart,” he greeted with a wide smile, and between his soft eyes and the way he said “sweetheart”—just the way Dean said it—you felt your shyness ebbing slightly as you stepped out from behind Sam’s legs.
“Hi,” you mumbled shyly, shuffling your feet as you approached John.
John reached his arms up slowly, hesitantly, as if waiting for your approval. You, never one to turn down a hug, gave it readily and melted into your father’s arms.
Dean had never seen his father smile like he did as he held you in his arms.
“It’s good to see you,” John said quietly as he pulled away. You didn’t seem to know what to say, so Sam spoke up.
“Honey, how about you show him your room?”
You lit up with excitement, snatching up John’s giant hand in your small one and practically dragging him towards your room.
“Ok, ok,” John laughed. “I’m coming!”
“I guess she’s warming up to him,” Sam chuckled to Dean after you disappeared with John in tow.
“We should probably join them,” Dean said. “We’ve got a lot of catching up to do.”
“Wow.” John laughed. “You’ve gotta lot of toys in here.”
“Yeah,” you grinned. “Daddy bought me most of them, he’s really—“ you trailed off when you saw the look of shock on John’s face.
Sam and Dean entered your room before John could ask what you meant, and as soon as they came in you ran to Sam, suddenly shy again in John’s presence. You didn’t know how he would feel when he found out about the angel that was like a third dad to you.
“Hey, something wrong?” Sam glanced between you and John.
“Um, no,” John spoke up, recovering from his shock. “We were just catching up. Dean, can I talk to you?”
Dean nodded, and he and John stepped out of your room.
“Kid, did something happen?” Sam asked gently.
“I—um, I mentioned daddy,” you mumbled, staring at your shoes.
“Hey,” Sam coaxed, kneeling down to meet your gaze. “He’s not gonna be mad, ok? He’ll understand, you didn’t do anything.”
“You think so?”
“Yeah,” Sam said with more assurance than he felt.
“What happened?” Dean questioned.
“It’s nothing, just…” John cleared his throat, and Dean had never seen him so hesitant. “I just wanted to know…does she call you two her dads?”
The question threw Dean a little.
“I…”
“Look, I get it,” John cut in. “She hasn’t seen me since she was a baby, it makes sense. She just, she mentioned ‘daddy’ and I…I was curious.”
Dean nearly cringed, but he kept his face in check. ‘Daddy’ was your moniker for Cas, and Dean wasn’t too sure how his father would react to the knowledge of angels.
“That’s a really long story,” Dean sighed. “I think maybe we should all talk about it.”
“So…angels,” John said quietly about an hour later. “And…the apocalypse?”
“Yeah, more than one,” Dean scoffed.
“And an angel, and the son of Lucifer are living with you,” John added.
“Jack,” you corrected with a smile. “He’s my big brother,” you added proudly. With the less-than-welcome greeting Jack had gotten when he entered the world, you had taken it upon yourself to make him family, and even though you were technically eleven years older than him, he always felt like a big brother to you.
“I see,” John said, smiling softly at you. “You three have been busy.”
“That’s one way to put it,” Sam said.
The four of you spent all day together, and John did all he could to get to know you.
You hit it off well with him, rambling non-stop about everything he’d missed, and he listened with wrapt attention.
You got to experience a lot of firsts with John—he gave you a piggyback ride, you had a pillow fight, and to cap it all off, the whole family sat down for one last meal. But all too soon, it was time to say goodbye.
The moment the boys found out that John had to go, they decided that you shouldn’t be around when it happened. So, at the end of the night that had ended way too soon, John pulled you into his arms for a final goodbye.
“I’m so proud of you, kid,” he said with finality. “These three dads you got here are raising you right, so you listen to them, ok?”
“Ok,” you promised through your tears.
“Hey,” John pulled back, framing your face with his large hands and using the pads of his thumbs to brush away your tears. “It’s ok, sweetheart. We got this day to remember, yeah? That’ll have to be enough for us.”
You nodded, leaning forward for one last hug. John reciprocated, squeezing you tightly.
“I love you so much, sweetheart,” John breathed. Just as he was about to pull away, you stopped him with a tug on his arm and a gentle whisper in his ear. At your words, he smiled and picked you up, and Sam and Dean trailed behind as John carried you into your room…
Where John Winchester got to tuck his little girl into bed for the first time, kissing her head and wishing her goodnight. He closed the door with great hesitation, giving you one final, longing glance before shutting off the light and closing your door.
“You’ve got a good kid in there,” John said to his sons, no longer able to hold back the tears.
“Thanks, dad,” Dean smiled.
“You tell that angel friend of yours thanks for me, ok?”
You awoke the next morning to a quiet bunker.
“Daddy?” You began. “Are you back yet?”
With a flutter of wings, Castiel stood in front of you.
“Hello little one,” he greeted with a smile. “Yes, I got back last night after you fell asleep.” Cas grinned when you launched yourself into his arms. “I’ve heard you had quite the eventful day.”
You recounted every moment of the previous day with your father, and Castiel watched with a patient smile, glad that you got to meet John, even if just for a day.
“Well, after such an exciting day I’d say you need a lot more sleep,” Castiel said with a frown when he noticed the early hour.
“Can you tuck me in?” You asked shyly.
He smiled, “Of course little one.”
“You’re awake.”
The two of you turned at the sound of Jack’s voice in the doorway.
“I’m putting her back to sleep,” Castiel informed him.
“I wanna say hi to Jack first!” You insisted, jumping out of bed and running to hug Jack. He laughed and hugged you back tightly, before lifting you in his arms and carrying you to bed.
“Castiel is right, it’s far too early for you to be up, little sister. Get some rest.” He set you down gently and pressed a kiss to your forehead, an action mirrored by Cas.
“Sleep tight, little one.”
