Today my biggest dream and my worst nightmare came true all at once. Both of them were you.

I was alone and you came to me. You were seeking me out. Going against your better judgment and what others may want, you chose to apologize.

You don’t regret us. The time and memories we shared. You regret how it ended. You leaving and me alone wondering what went wrong… what I did wrong.

But now, after all this time, you still cared enough to check on me. To tell me what happened. To tell me it wasn’t my fault. That my feelings were not one sided. The love was real. But so was the pain, and the distance, and the trauma.

We were the best kept secret. But that made it so much harder when you went away. I was heartbroken but I couldn’t tell a soul. I wanted you. Even if it were just as a friend.

I’ve never felt that way before. I’ve never cared for someone so much that I would rather keep them in my life even if that meant I couldn’t be with them. I’ve never truly cared about someone’s happiness and feelings above my own. But with you it’s different. Just to know you are here is enough for me.

I am so happy for you and the life you’ve built for yourself. And I am so thankful you took the time to seek me out and apologize. It was a dream come true.

But still I mourn, feeling like I have lost you all over again. Knowing I can never have you. Knowing you will never be mine. Knowing we can never chat one-on-one again.

I knew what I was doing. I knew what I was getting myself into. I wouldn’t change a thing. Only, I would have told you I love you more than that one time. I would have talked with you longer. I would never have hung up the call. I would cherish every moment. Just as I will the ones we had. Forever the Vine entangling my heart.
