Criminal: *turns off the lights* haha! Try and fight me when you can't see!
Daredevil: I can still sense you in the dark.
Spiderman: as can I!
Dead pool: I cannot! so this is kind of upsetting for me.

idk if anyone talked about this already but can we talk about the fact that, during the chase, Gwen is telling Jess that she has a feeling that she (they) shouldn't be doing that, chasing miles and all, a gut feeling. and Jess tells her to follow order and to ignore it. like ? gut feelings is the way spiderman works ? they Spidey sense and all of that. like ????

Saiki: What's the deal with this new kid? I can't read his thoughts. The only thing that my telepathy is picking up is a weird ringing noise.
Peter, who is secretly terrified: Why won't my Spidey Sense stop ringing?!

spidey senses
i mentioned this in a post a while ago
so i have this thing. i call it spidey senses because i literally don't know how else to explain it. like you know how spiderman senses danger? yeah. every so often if we're in a new place or meeting new people my mom will ask is anyone setting off my spidey senses? because my spidey senses have historically been very accurate.
basically its anyone i feel weird around. like they're off-putting. i'm uncomfortable around them. i don't really know why. like i said, spidey senses. here's a list of people that triggered my spidey senses and the random(?) things i discovered about them later (like months later, but probably was occurring while i knew them)
parents' friend from church - was neglecting his wife/family, anger issues, voted for trump. also his wife voted for kanye but that's not really relevant just kinda funny
maternal grandma's husband, aka my mom's step-dad, aka poppy tim - alcoholic, coming home drunk and scaring my grandma. refused to help pay for their house. during divorce proceedings, tried to leach as much money as possible from my grandma.
my mom's childhood friend's husband - was cheating on his wife. also during divorce proceedings tried to leach money. also makes things hard for her and their kids. like just to be petty. also he was missing a pinkie but that's not really relevant it's just something interesting
other separate thing kinda related to my spidey senses:
from a young age, i knew my uncle was different. i assumed everyone else could tell as well. when my mom told me, a good decade later, that said uncle had recently been diagnosed with autism, i was like,,, only recently??? y'all didn't know before???
same thing with my cousin. didn't really like her, not super interested in hanging out with her. autistic. (couple months later i was also diagnosed)
anyway idk what's up with me, it might just be the autism but i honestly have no other explanation except maybe i am blessed by God. hallelujah

hey this is a comment about across the spiderverse and spidey senses so if you dont want spoilers scroll past!
The scene when Gwen leaves Miles to go to Mumbattan is really interesting to show that spidey senses have a degree of nuance. Note: I acknowledge most of this can probably be chalked up to storytelling and narrative reckoning, but the idea it's something deeper than a storytelling tool intrigues me.
For the most part, spidey senses warn the spiderperson about danger before it hits—similar to a sixth sense. But we also know that it can trigger it the spiderperson has a certain person/persons that they are being cautious around/on guard around.
For example when Miles is late to his dad's promotion party: his senses go off in the direction of his parents when he's sneaking around to avoid being seen and caught. Another example would be when Gwen is hiding in Miles's room and realises that he's in the wrong dimension. She's mentally on guard to figure out where Miles has gone and is keeping her focus trained on that. Now the senses aren't strictly for whatever the spiderperson's on guard/focused on because we know it's gone off randomly when the spiderpeople met each other and attuned.
However, the spidey senses don't seem to go off for when Miles is sneaking behind Gwen when she's leaving for Mumbattan. She doesn't sense him literally inches away from her despite that being a perfectly reasonable time for the sixth sense feature to kick in that she's being watched. Whilst this could be summed up to being about the drama and the tension, I like to think there's something deeper here. Gwen feels safe around Miles.
Let's go back to some key moments when spidey senses have gone off: when Miles was about to be crushed by flying debris (several occurances), when a spider person notices that someone they love is in danger (Miles and Gwen with their dads), and when the spiderpeople meet.
The first of these is pretty straightforward: self-preservation. Miles's senses go off because he's about to die. Cool. He needed to be alerted of a danger before it could harm him, and it was something he couldn't see or tell was happening. I'm coming back to this point later.
The second example is emotional preservation. The senses go off because they need to save their fathers otherwise emotionally they'd collapse. I could write a whole thing about this but we'll shelf that for another day.
The last example is what I can only figure to be mental affinity. These are people who individually share very similar stories and morals and ~ vibes ~ with. They don't show Miles having this trigger in the Numerous other spiderpeople he encounters.
My curiousity comes when the spidey senses don't trigger for when Miles is so close to Gwen and following her, but how Jess stated that she knew he was with Gwen at the portal. I think, fundamentally, it comes down to the fact that Gwen doesn't see Miles as a danger. There's no need to alert her of him following her or being inches away from her because he would never intentially cause her harm. This is contrasted to when Gwen's dad pulls a gun on her and her senses activate. Her dad becomes a danger to her emotional, mental, and physical safety because he is afraid of her.
To Gwen, Miles is safety. Both physically, emotionally, and mentally. Her spidey senses have no reason to alert her of him because she has no reason to be alerted by him.
Jess, however, does have reason to be alerted about his presence. But that idea I think can stand on its own, and I mainly wanted to make this post about Gwen and Miles.
So... yeah.

Okay, short post but I've seen a lot of people over the years get confused about Daredevil's Radar Sense, including myself. Especially due to the Netflix series and it's... interesting depiction, there've been a lot of people who assume he can actually see or other crazy stuff. So here's my lil explanation.
Tumblr media
For anyone not in the know, this is the Radar Sense. This represents what Matt "sees" in the comics to give an example as to how he experiences the world. He does not actually see this. He is actually blind, no matter how many times the Netflix series has him state "I nEvEr SaId I wAs BlInD".
Think of it like Spidey-Sense. In universe, nobody, not even the Spideys themselves, see those rays. That's not an actual visual thing that happens. It is simply to represent to us what he is experiencing, and give a universally understood visual cue so we recognize when it happens. Same thing here. And for a better example, another blind superpower with a similar visual depiction.
Tumblr media
This is the Seismic Sense, invented for ATLA. Anybody who's aware of the series knows that Toph is blind. Not semi-blind, not mostly blind, not technically-but-not-really-blind, just blind.
The Seismic Sense is an ability she has using her Earth bending, which allows her to gauge movements, depth, and even heartbeats by sensing the vibrations through the rocks. This is not something she actually sees, just as when Aang uses it he also doesn't see this. It is just a visual cue so that viewers 1: have something to look at, and 2: know what we're looking at.
(I should also specify that that is an image of Toph's daughter Lin using the ability, not Toph herself)
I think it would be much better to bring on actual blind people to help with depictions like this. I feel like most of the confusion comes from poor communication on behalf of the comics/series, wherein it's usually only able-bodied folks leading the representation. If someone who, y'know, actually lives with blindness gets to be apart of the discussion, the discussion would be better suited towards "Oh, Daredevil has super-senses and this is what is used to represent that" and not "blind people have superpowers??!!!!?11!"
