here's my favorite HCs for Jason Todd
6'2" = 1.8796 m (apparently). in other words, he IS just the teeniest bit TALLER than Bruce Wayne, his dad. & it's even better when they're both in costume, because his boots add a teeny bit MORE (ofc it's offset by Bruce's Batman boots, but stfu). he's a big boy who Alfred insists is "still growing" & therefore he deserves lots of food. specifically, bread, which he's always had a fondness for. that, hot dogs & spicy noodles (pad thai, Nona's* spaghetti, Alfred's secret recipe chicken noodle soup)!!
he's half Latino & half Italian. yes, I know that "Todd" & "Haywood" are names of English origin. I am aware. & I don't care. he speaks Spanish as a second language & Italian as a speaking-only third (since some of the families in the neighborhood know some Italian). yeah, he was born with auburn (reddish-brown) hair, but he dyes it black. no one knows why & no one asks. and ofc there's the white streak, which almost magically pops back up every time he tries to dye it.
his eyes were more blue, maybe a glassy hazel when he was Robin. after the Pit, dark green leaked into his irises, even more so when he gets incredibly angry/upset.
his butt is toned, duh, but his thighs and pecs are the stuff of legend. he just naturally has a broader chest and thicc thighs (that can crush watermelons--and they will, if you're close with him and you ask nicely, promising a gift of cookies or cuddles in return). he's actually kind of self-conscious about his thighs, because they're so big.
he's always had a soft spot for innocent creatures, to the point where he's unfazed that they're attracted to his presence. strays try to follow him home when he patrols, to the point where he keeps a bag of cat food in each of his hideouts. one, out of the many reasons why he has a motorcycle is to outrun the strays. when he visits Selina, he plans to stay for at least two hours because they're all gonna lie on him, and who is he to move?? also, babies calm down as soon as he makes noise (speaking normally, singing a lullaby, goo-go-gah lingo, etc.).
he's pansexual, but demisexual and demiromantic. I mean, the guy had a rough childhood home, he was ratted out by his biological mom, and he still has issues with most of his family. ironically, he tends to put his heart into everything he sees as worth doing, even when that comes to people he doesn't know. that's why he takes being a vigilante so seriously. he wants other Gothamites to have a better city than he had growing up, even if it'll never be free of crime.
you bet your ass he likes the classics, namely The Prince, Hamlet, some Jane Austen, and The Catcher in the Rye. do not ask him if he has read Moby Dick or Ulysses. he has (at least, partially) and he hates them both.
he respects women, and with the exception of Alfred, he tends to prefer them to men when it comes to working and doing platonic activities. is being a BIG Wonder Woman fan related to this? no. but he is one.
he saw Barbie. he read about Oppenheimer before the movie came out, and he wasn't amused.
Jason can't do horror movies, especially ones like Saw, or anything that has to do with psychological scares or torturing characters. considering how he died, plus the times he's been hit with fear gas...yeah, he'd much rather watch some action-suspense, a good book adaptation (he gets so fucking unhinged when they don't follow the books), or a witty historical romance.
he actually respects all of his siblings for the most part, and he'll help them with whatever if it's serious. he just feels uncomfortable regularly associating with them because they still have some kind of allegiance to Bruce, who he refuses to treat as a superior/leader of his. he and Bruce do talk one-on-one when Alfred guilts him into coming home for a meal, or when the world's almost ended (for the 59,211,948th time) and they want to say "I'm glad you're not dead" without really saying it. he loves Bruce but he doesn't fully trust him with his heart, if that makes sense.
he mentally separates the Gotham Rogues into those he'll let off with a warning, and those who are scum. the first kind only gets confronted and fought if they're actually hurting people (physically or socioemotionally).
yes, he still uses guns and knives.

How long has it been since you moved out of the house you grew up in?
About fourteen years now!
What color shirt are you wearing?
Neon pink. I am not a big fan of pink unless it’s a mauve or dusty, but funny story about this shirt: my husband’s family was having a summer party themed as “dress for your decade” so he had an ‘80s outfit and I had this shirt as part of my ‘90s outfit tied at the front with a side ponytail, high-waisted long leopard print biker shorts, and platform multi-colored pastel Velcro strappy sandals. My husband wore a ripped up Guns N’ Roses tee with cut-off jorts, black nail polish, black Chuck Taylor Converse, and a bandana. Well, apparently he either silenced or removed himself from the group chat that had an update saying they canceled the dress-up theme. So we looked like complete weirdos. 😂

Long Bangkok write-up after spending a January 2022 there PART 1
ORIGINALLY POSTED JANUARY 2022
This first post is focused on Thai cuisine tasting menus:
Aksorn
Wow. I ate at Nahm many years ago when David T. was there, and that meal stands out as the best Thai meal I had ever had at that point. I have since eaten at Aksorn, David T's new place, twice, and found the meal to be spectacular from start to finish each time. Really fabulous, Thai food at its best.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Samlor
Samlor was spectacular. This was perhaps the best meal of my trip. Sadly, at the moment they don't have a tasting menu available on a regular basis. But once a month they do a special tasting menu pop-up, so booking on one of those nights is key. As Chef Joe said at the end of the meal, this isn't a meal of Thai food, but its a meal where each course aims to highlight Thai flavors and ingredients. And the meal did so with such poise and elegance. There was a delicious fish watermelon starter topped with cavier, a clever play on a traditional Thai summer snack. Then a delicious and spicy shrimp tartar, a beautiful oyster which stands out because I find often dressed up oyster dishes mean you dont really taste the oyster, and here you could despite so much going on in the bite. Then there were many other incredible bites, too many to detail, but the highlights for me were a slice of beef in a penang mole that was stunning, a dessert that perhaps needs to be ranked as my favorite of all time, with fried shallots on top of frozen passionfruit, jasmine cream, and kaffir lime. It was so incredible- a combination that shouldn't work, but did, and honestly could easily be included on a Noma menu, and then finally a foie gras ice cream coated in chocolate with caramelized sweet fish sauce. It tasted like the best magnum ice cream you have never had. What I saw in this meal was a chef that is truly brilliant- he understands flavors in a highly sophisticated way, and has excellent technique, and will be blowing up very soon in my view.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Samrub for Thai
This place is the bomb. Chef Prin is serving the rock-n-roll of Thai food in my view- edgy, funky, punchy, and so much fun to eat. We went twice, and the first time the monthly theme was a Khmer/Isaan inspired menu. There were some stunning bites including baby fried crabs that a month later I keep dreaming about snacking on, a fish soup so unbearably fragrant, and a coconut fish relish that I wanted to bottle it up and keep it as a daily snack to smear on toast. On our second trip, much of the meal centered on clams, a range of different ones all of excellent quality, and the meal was an equal joy. Chef Prin is a very exciting chef! Don't miss their rum steeped in local olives.

Haawm
Getting a booking here is tough, getting to Chef Dylan’s house is far, and it’s largely BYOB. But once you arrive you can tell it will be worth it. Chef Dylan has a great 60s vibe going through the house that meshes with the menu, which is made up of vintage 60s and 70s Thai recipes. Our meal was fabulous, with each dish packing a punch. Some favorites were a burnt pineapple, prawn and chili jam salad, a shrimp relish with crab and gooseberries, and a stir-fry cabbage with duck egg and orange chilies. The opening bite of rose apple with prickly ash relish was also superb. If you are in BKK, you should be pulling every string you can to get a seat here.

Sra Bua by KIIN KIIN
A very uneven meal. The starters were amazing, a parade of very elevated Thai street snacks, served with lots of showmanship (which I thought was a tad much but they made it work). And many of these bites really were better than the original. Some less so though- their tom yum was definitely not the best we had in Thailand, and the shrimp dim sum bites weren’t great. Then we got to the plated dishes, and there was a scallop dish that was plain weird, and a fish tom kha that was ok (though I thought odd they served a tom yum and a tom kha in the same meal, a bit too much soupiness for my liking), and a very unsuccessful beef carpaccio. But one highlight among the plated dishes was a fabulous crab curry. For dessert there were two nice ice creams, the coconut one was good but nothing compared to JING JING Ice-cream Bar and Café in my view, and they were served next to crepes that were not made fresh to order, with an odd mix of toppings that were flambeed table-side. This really was weird, in the country of some of my favorite desserts in the world, to get a not very good sort of crepe suzette… Not sure if I would recommend this meal to others.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wana Yook
This was an uneven meal. There were some exceptional bites. There was a burnt coconut dessert that is the best dessert we have had this entire trip. The final main course with different salads, curries and rices with two different cured egg yolks and crispy fried egg whites was also fabulous. And his reconceptualization of Tom Kha Gai was amazing. Overall highlights were the way he treated the proteins, in every dish they were prepared to perfection, and his featuring of so many different types of rice. However, some dishes fell quite flat. And the overall setup of the restaurant, the lighting, interior design and choice of music were a bit off-putting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nusara
This was a bit of a strange meal for me. First, I didn't like our table setup, we felt a bit like we were seated in a sort of hallway. But the first bites came out and they were fantastic, including a beautiful and fragrant crab curry. But the mains were a let down- a beef cheek that was not very tender, and a wagyu beef course where there were so many herbs used in the dish that you lost the delicate beef flavor completely. Overall a mixed experience.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Le Du
Similar to Nusara, at Le Du we had some stunning bites including a beautiful soft-shell crab curry, a fermented rice noodle and savory ice cream bite, an amazing Thai risotto, and a beautifully complex cucumber and fish ceviche. But other bits were less exciting and it didn't feel like a meal that had a thoughtful progression to it, as opposed to a string of individual dishes.
Tumblr media
Bo.lan
What a let down. I don't know if the issue is that we went here for a pop-up after they have been closed for months, and don't have the full kitchen staff working, but the meal was more expensive than almost any other we had in Bangkok and the food really just wasn't exceptional. Besides an opening bite (special rice with a special coconut jaggery powder on top) and a pre-dessert bite (a rice and coconut bite), nothing else was exceptional, nor was it even particularly good. And while that might just be a taste issue, which I can acknowledge, what bothered me the most was the quality of what was being served, given the price. For example there was a beef curry, and in it, all we got were hunks of fat, or hunks of chewy beef that were attached to hunks of fat. There was a prawn salad, with prawns that were not very nice, etc. Again, while I accept that maybe my taste is different to the chef's, I dont accept bad quality beef and seafood when the price tag on a meal is that exceedingly high.

Snack preference hcs because I'm bored and love the characters in this stupid game
Amara: Fresh, bright, healthy snacks. Fruit, jello cups, Popsicles - anything cold and refreshing, especially if it's fruity. Loves froyo on her cheat days. Gets strawberry yogurt with cake, more strawberries, and chocolate sauce as her regular.
Ava: Tortilla chips. Could live off of Tortilla chips and some dips. Favorite is Onion dip with hot sauce. Makes a dessert dip of chocolate and caramel that is...controversial to say the least.
Axton: If it's at night, likes a salmon dip with whole wheat crackers. Daytime? Jerky with gravy. Makes his own gravy, family recipe. It's absolutely addicting, everyone tells him he needs to cut the Vault Hunting and bottle that sh*t for market.
Brick: BEEF. BURGER. PATTY. COLD. (It's actually a protein wrap chock full of vitamins but that doesn't work for his reputation)
Maya: Makes killer soup. She makes a huge batch, puts it in the fridge, and pours a cup and puts that into the microwave for a quick bite. Really likes veggie based soups, or soups with seafood.
Moze: Something easy to throw together. It's usually great hang over food. Quesadillas, grilled cheese melts, microwave mac-n-cheese - something filling, savory, and comforting. And yeah, fond of cheese. Also likes peanut butter cookies with black coffee.
Moxxi: Candy. Grandma candy, specifically. Those strawberry things? Is the biggest buyer for them. Licorice is also a favorite. Anything spicy with cinnamon, as well.
Lilith: Gummy candies, cucumbers with tuna or chicken, or some unholy sandwich creation that makes you think she's high. Her tastebuds are f*cked from Phasewalk, now likes peanut butter and jelly with ham and provolone cheese. Her arguement is that peanut butter is savory like ham, and grape jelly is 'pretty much wine' and wine is good with cheese. It's horrible.
Mordecai: Dried meat. What the meat is, no idea. Could be skag, could be human. It's meat, it's impossible to chew, it has no flavor. The popular theory is that it's for Talon and he's softening it in his mouth. As for what he actually eats, likely part plant and feeds off of sunlight. God only knows.
Tina: Rock candy. Loves sour watermelon rock candy. Oh, and also spicy sweet potato chips. And cookies with tea, of course. Likes Chamomile tea and chai.
Zer0: Legends say you can find candy wrappers in their room. They just like cool wrappers. Collect limited edition foodstuffs just for the wrapper or can. Has a wall lined with soda cans with unique patterns.
Zane: Heathen man. Pours spices onto his hand and licks it. Likes stale gummy candy. Licks the salt off of crackers and gives the defiled things to Mr. Chew. Puts cheese and pineapple in shrimp ramen with oregano. Vile, vile, vile.
Krieg: His roasts are to die for, and he eats it cold from the fridge when he's peckish. Uses Pandoran ingredients like cactus honey, salty hail found in glaciers in the tundra, skag bone broth for marinating, and a blend of local herbs and spices. They put Axton's gravy on it one time and had a collective transcendent awakening. The combo is now banned, for anyone who tries it will never enjoy other food again.
Gaige: Girl stalks the clearance section of the bakery in supermarkets for cheap baked goods. Lives off of expired cupcakes.
Tannis: Doesn't snack, but enjoys a cup of tea in between meals. After breakfast, has a green tea. After lunch, chai, and after dinner, chamomile and lavender for bed. Sometimes has a shortbread cookie with it.
Troy: Depends on the week, position of the stars, his horoscope for his moon sign, and the tide. His taste in food cannot be tracked. Goes from eating something bizarrely plain to so complex you think you're having a stroke when you look at it. His inner circle have a game called "What The F*ck Is The God King Eating Now". His personal chefs say they black out when cooking for him. Whatever it is, he doesn't eat anything pre-prepared or from a wrapper. The one time he ate something identifiable, there was a conspiracy he had been replaced by a clone.
Tyreen: One time while she was eating, Troy asked her what she was eating, and she responded, "Your mom" without thinking about it. They didn't speak for a week after the incident and never mentioned it again. Still gets embarrassed about it.
Lorelai: Has not consumed anything but burgers and coffee for months. Please stop her. Her colon is about to pop out of her stomach and strangle her itself.
Hammerlock: Dark rye with tomatoes, basil, fresh mozzarella, and a tall glass of lemonade. It's a snack he's had since he was a boy and it hasn't lost its simple comfort.
Wainright: Fried tomatoes with a coleslaw and peach iced tea. Fried vegetables in general are underrated in his book, despite his father's attempts of trying to get him to accept meat superiority.
Clay: Moonpies and scotch. Time of day doesn't matter. This is bad because its a shot for every pie. And he can put away an absurd amount of them. However, there are only so many shots he can drink before he's pretty much dead to the world.
Fl4k: 101 recipes for birdseed, skag treats, and 'humanfeed' as they call it. Once tried making pancakes for Zane and Moze while they were both sick, gave them food poisoning with nutrient supplements meant for spiderants. The supplements was to boost immune system - hence why it was added - and, unfortunately, venom production. Ergo, making it toxic for humans who do not produce venom. Zane was paler than snow and Moze was beyond delirious. Fl4k felt horrible for months.
Salvador: Makes croquetas in bulk and has a handful when he needs a pick-me-up. Filling varies, but likes them with fish and potato. As for drinks, cannot survive without his grandmother's horchata recipe. Makes it for the whole team whenever it gets cold. Also likes lime soda with pickled vegetables.
Marcus: probably other passengers on the ship
