I just noticed the patches on damian jacket on that supersons it's so fucking cute omg

I'm so glad you noticed the patches omg! The patches were the highlight of that piece tbh and I had an entire plot/dialogue thingy planned out about it originally!

The original idea was that the jacket is actually Jon's, not Damian's (this is the reason why it looks slightly oversized on Damian, though I'm not sure if it's very noticeable). And it was originally supposed to only have the Super patch on it but Damian slapped his own Robin logo onto it and claimed it as shared Super Sons property (just his excuse to keep stealing that jacket).

I had like an entire dialogue planned out. Just a lighthearted convo between the boys. But I chickened out last minute bc I wasn't very confident with the dialogue I wrote so I decided to leave it be and just post the drawing on its own.

But yeah, do with that information what you will :]

like i know steph technically isn't batfam except how she totally is but the fact that people [me included] are pro two batgirls dating but not 2 former bat boys being a couple ((I mean incest aside a ship where one tries to actually murder the other ain't it)) its somewhat hypocritical?

Jason and Tim are adopted siblings. Steph and Cass are not adopted (or otherwise) siblings.

The incredibly important distinction here is no matter how much Steph fits into the ‘batfamily’ because yes she is part of their crime fighting found family situation, Stephanie Brown was NEVER adopted by Bruce Wayne. She is not and never has been adopted into the Wayne family. Not ever. The only known timeline it could have happened in maybe is the one from World Without Young Justice, but there’s no confirmation on that and that universe exists for one 5 issue event. 

Like does she maybe see Bruce as a father figure to some degree? You could make an argument for that, sure, but he was still never actually her parent. 

Steph’s parents are Arthur Brown and Crystal Brown, and even when Arthur’s not in the picture (which he shouldn’t be because he fuckin sucks) Crystal still is (even if there were periods she wasn’t around as much because of her addictions, by the time of Steph’s Batgirl run they are still living together!) Now, if we’re talking post-reboot, her mom is not in the picture currently, however since her parents stopped being around she either lived with Harper and Cullen Row or with Tim since he’s her boyfriend. But she was never adopted by anyone.

Pre reboot, Tim Drake, Jason Todd, and Cassandra Cain are all adopted children of Bruce Wayne. 

Tim accepted Bruce’s offer to adopt him in Batman #654, after having previously turned it down before Infinite Crisis. 

Jason’s adoption is a little trickier as it technically occurred before Crisis on Infinite Earths where he did get a massive background overhaul, however it’s still brought up after the Crisis so it remained canon. This is from The New Teen Titans #56, when Dick finds out about Jason’s death

(also for reference Dick was later adopted as an adult, at the time he was a child he had instead been Bruce’s Ward)

and Cass accepted Bruce’s offer to adopt her in Batgirl (2008) #6

Post reboot, Tim Drake and Jason Todd are still adopted children of Bruce Wayne, however Cass has not been re-adopted as far as we know, hopefully this will change in Infinite Frontier. While we don’t on panel see them get adopted/have these conversations due to the fact that these things happened in the past, Tim, Jason, Dick and Damian being brothers is referenced on multiple occasions especially since Rebirth 

So yeah, that’s why it’s not ‘bullshit’. One situation is shipping characters who are adopted brothers, and one is shipping two characters who are best friends and fight crime in the same group. Entirely different situations, it’s not hypocritical.

In Supersons we see a couple of kids that are implied to be Damian and Jon's children and the boy has laser eyes and can fly, so I asume he's not adopted. The girl, who calls Bruce grandpa, can also fly, btw. So it's canon (probably by accident) that Jon can have kids and he must have married one of Bruce's kids. (I'm hoping for Damian, mostly because any other of his children would be waaaaaaaaaaaaay too old.) @artemisa97

some middle aged man under the new killer shark promos described the harley quinn TV show as a parody and not the real version and said it should be hammerhead etc. and I think that's the problem with the TV shows and films and comics themselves is people pick one version of canon and discredit anything else , even if it's also textually based

(that said I've not seen yj so I really dont know the pros/cons[ha!] of it)

See like, in general with adaptations things being 100% comic accurate or whatever isn’t even something I generally get annoyed about, because I understand adaptions want to put their own spin on things and make something that’s uniquely theirs etc etc.

My problem just comes in when the changes are so drastic that the characters/universe don’t feel like even remotely connected to the source material aside from character names, especially when something is marketed with/using a title that is associated with a specific team/story and then has pretty much nothing to do with it. 

Batman movies that tell new stories and maybe change the lore but are very clearly like ‘this one director’s vision of Batman’ like go off I can appreciate that as a separate thing, as long as it still feels like it’s Batman.

With the Harley Quinn show like it has it’s problems but like, it’s a show focused on Harley Quinn that’s a comedy, it’s maybe not the most accurate representation of her but it definitely like... is Harley. It feels like Harley. It is what it says on the box, a Harley Quinn cartoon.

But the Young Justice cartoon? The title is misleading and it just should have been called something else. because like, their team isn’t even named Young Justice, they’re just ‘the team’. In season one they only have ONE member of the comics YJ team and he is drastically altered into being a completely separate character. If ya wanted to just do your own take on young heroes in the DCU (which is what they wanted to do), maybe don’t pick the name of an established team if you’re not going to actually make something that even vaguely resembles them. 

Like, even something like Titans is primarily focused on... characters who were famous for being on the Titans? That show also takes a LOT of liberties (their version of Jason angers me) but at least it’s focused on the team the title indicates it would be. 

I don’t think adaptations need to be like, 100% the same as the source canon. But for something to be like, a good adaptation imo, it needs to be at least vaguely recognizable as what it’s based on. Otherwise like, why’d you bother doing it like this as an adaptation, why didn’t you just make an original story or something instead?

I understand that, I know that comics can be really, really confusing sometimes especially with all the reboots and things, and just how massive the histories are, so not everyone always knows the actual adoption status of all the characters/how they connect as family.

But yeah, Tim, Jason, Dick, Damian, (and Cass before the reboot, but she’s not technically at the moment in current continuity) are Bruce’s children and siblings to one another, while Steph and Babs are close family friends but are not actually related/adopted at any point. Duke lived with Bruce for a time but was not actually adopted as far as I’m aware, so he falls the most in a ‘grey area’ here, but has been treated/referenced as another sibling by the boys on at least a few occasions (im specifically recalling Jason saying he had four brothers in RHATO 2016 at one point, and i think there’s other stuff too but thats just off the top of my head) so that’s definitely the nature of the relationship he has with them.
