@awhoreintheory WHO GAVE YOU THE RIGHT TO DO THIS TO ME?????
I didn't realize it was that freakin' long!! Literally did research and found this lovely post (like hot damn this thing is incredible!) by @violethowler with the entire timeline and now my heart hurts even more for these fools.
Coalition Lance AU con't:
(I have all of this categorized under "#Coalition Lance AU" on my blog if you want to see all the pieces)
Okay, so Lance doesn't have the phone/tablet he claimed in the Castle of Lions. All the photos and videos and precious memories he had saved on there are somewhere in space with the castle.
But he soon realizes he wasn't the only one documenting the adventures of Voltron. There were plenty of technologically advanced planets where the locals took just as many videos and photos as Lance did.
He kind of disguises it as a social media/publicity stunt. A network is created for people to upload what they have of the paladins as a way to remember the heroes. Maybe Voltron just needs to be reminded of how much the universe adores them. And even if that's not what brings them back, it's a way to connect the planets that were saved and spread hope into the darkness of space.
For Lance, it's a way to collect mementos of his space family.
So yeah, there'd be some sort of physical age difference between them and I think the paladins seeing how much older Lance appears would be a major hit.
They were all subjected to the time skip and are essentially each other's only company for the trip home. Even for the familiar faces they might have seen throughout that time, they have no point of reference for how time affects those species.
It's not until they seen Lance, once a growing teen now a young adult, that it sinks in how long they've been gone and it's agonizing having to face that.
And this would, of course, bring us to the aspect of the paladins being assumed dead at some point and Lance have to deal with the endless "I'm sorry for your loss"s and other condolences over the years. He's periodically reminded that his friends may never return.
Another aspect I appreciate about the extended timeline like this is that it gives Lance more time to rise in the ranks.

Sabine meeting Din and seeing that at least one other Mandalorian survived the purge
Din explaining that there are actually quite a few others left, including Bo-Katan, and inviting Sabine to join them on a reclaimed Mandalore; it’s her homeworld and she’s welcome to live there with the other survivors
Sabine looking back at Ezra, Hera, Jacen, Chopper, Zeb, Kallus, Ahsoka, and Huyang and declining, because she’s always had a home even if it was never on any particular planet

Anakin showing up 20 years later all “uh DUH OBVIOUSLY I’m here to train you in this dream sequence or whatever anyways check out TWO of my haircuts AND outfits” is the funniest. Their family is an absolute mess and I love them.
Everyone around Ahsoka must think she is a complete weirdo. Which she is, but who can blame her? 😂
