James : How high are you?
Regulus: Mm, I don’t know how to say it in feet.
Remus: No, he's asking what drugs are you on.
Regulus: Oh, antidepressants, why?

i've been thinking about the significance of toph's feet as the crux of her power against/alongside the practice of footbinding. considering her role situated within (an analog for) tang dynasty nobility, thinking through that cultural practice poses direct relevance regarding the overarching theme of how she transcends imposed boundaries, in terms of gender roles, class expectations, and of course along the axis of her disability. i can only gesture to these ideas because i lack the historical framework to construct a legitimate argument, but i'm wondering whether anyone more knowledgable regarding these historical contexts (@atlaculture comes to mind, but of course no pressure!) would like to extrapolate from these ideas.

my current theory is that PJO TV is gonna go the exact same route as the movies:
Movie/Season 1 - The writing is meh and is criticized alongside the heavy deviations from the original series. Some people are staunch believers that it is too harshly criticized for being a derivative series, and they're probably right to some degree. As a stand-alone media it's somewhat confusing without original context and generally received as Medium-At-Best, but not the worst thing ever.
Movie/Season 2 - The writers respond to criticism by making changes recommended by feedback to the first [season/movie]. These changes to be closer to the books are generally regarded favorably. The second [movie/season] is regarded with little fanfare. They solve too much way too early on and essentially kill any chance for them to continue the series, but set up a continuation anyways by introducing Thalia. They announce plans for the third [movie/season] and everyone is confused.
Movie/Season 3 - Is announced but never comes to fruition and everyone is kind of relieved by that. Also I personally hope Disney+ will be dead by this point. Maybe Netflix will pick it up to go with the TKC movies. I dunno.

i've been thinking a lot about this post again so here's a handful of incorrect quotes based on this au because i'm back on my cal kestis bullshit may possibly do more
~~~
Anakin: Guess what?
Obi-Wan: What, Anakin?
Anakin: No, you have to guess.
Obi-Wan. wary: I don't know.
Anakin: Cal's in the medbay.
Obi-Wan: Why would you make me guess that?! What happened?!
~~~
Obi-Wan: Cal got into a fight today.
Anakin: Oh. That’s... bad.
Anakin:
Anakin: Did he win?
~~~
Anakin: Cal, what do you have?
Cal: A KNIFE!
Anakin: Okay, have fu-
Obi-Wan: NO!
~~~
Obi-Wan, in a meeting: My policy is if you see something, say something.
Cal: I saw someone fall out a tree today!
Obi-Wan, with the tone of someone who is used to Cal: Outstanding.
Anakin, standing beside Cal, covered in dirt and leaves:
Obi-Wan: This is what I'm talking about people.
~~~
Cal, rolling down the window: What seems to be the problem, officer?
Anakin: Get the KRIFF out of my speeder.
~~~
Anakin, pointing at Cal: That child is morally grey at best.

BBS is a tragedy in many ways, but one of the things that gets me is that the catalyst, the one big thing that caused this mess to begin with, is so avoidable.
Like, the story starts primarily because Terra starts to fear himself (because of the darkness he has unwittingly 'used') and this causes a spiral of doubt and obsession. A spiral which he could've escaped from or maybe not even started if he just 1) had been taught the balance between light and dark properly (that darkness is more than just unquestionable evil, that light is more than unquestionable good, that they can and should co-exist in balance), and 2) had consistent socialization from more than the same 3 people.
Like. BBS is a cautionary tale about what happens when people aren't exposed to a wide enough variety of people and, therefore, end up naive and overly trusting because they never learned that people have ulterior motives. Terra is consistently manipulated and used by people literally everywhere he goes, because he can't see that they might not have the best intentions! He can't see the red flags because he doesn't know there are red flags to look for!
Xehanort knows this. It's why he targeted Terra to begin with: because he would be susceptable to his words. The main reason he couldn't use Aqua is because she was too confident in her own values, she didn't have the seed of doubt that Terra had. It's the only thing that prevents her from being used the same way he is, even though she is just as naive and trusting as he is.
Ven probably has it the worst socialization wise. Unlike Terra and Aqua who, presumably, has/had a family and life outside of the Land of Departure prior to beginning training there, Ven doesn't remember anything before then (not that he had much he'd be happy to remember anyway). And since he's the youngest and most 'fragile' one (due to being in recovery for most of his time here), he gets somewhat coddled and shielded by everyone else. Not to mention the way Eraqus completely forbid him from leaving and never intented for him to ever see worlds outside the Land of Departure. Sure, Terra and Aqua aren't typically supposed to leave either, but at least they'd be allowed in certain situations. Ven wouldn't.
Ven isn't allowed to interact with anyone outside of home. He's not allowed anything that involves the outer worlds. (He and Naminé are a bit alike in that sense. Though at least the people he's stuck with are nice to Ven and do genuinely care for him, unlike Naminé...)
BBS happens largely because Eraqus failed as both a teacher and a parental figure to all of them, but Terra most of all.

I've mentionned him in passing in the last costume log blog post as some ill-fated first attempt at a fursuit head, so it's only fair I actually showed him off at some point: here's Uncle Uncanny the Nargacuga in the flesh.
I started him in late 2020 as a little technique-learning project during a time where cons were dead and costume motivation was an all-time low. It's a funky little Nargacuga head all made from scratch! He's lined and everything, and I'd be crazy to call him bad because I know objectively he's a very handsome boy for a first attempt, but he always looked a little... funky.
Despite all the flaws though, he was so dang fun to make that he paved the way for the Wurmple partial and other future projects, and was an invaluable learning experience! I'd never bring him out though because the actual WEARING experience is a hot mess. Like, the materials are so bad he's periodically falling apart despite never taking him out to an event. He's so hard to breathe in, too... So back to storage you go!
Speaking of, good lord please periodically check your costume storage to make sure everything's a-ok. He's been in the same dry closet as everything else for years and for some reason the plastic bag he's been stored in was just casually FLAKING APART in a sticky, blooming mess (while everything else was just fine, including some other ANCIENT pieces in similar bags) . My hands feel so gross and smell like copper but he's survived just fine, thankfully. Seriously, though. Check your storage.

Also I realize that the answer is probably just reading enough period sources but as a linguist I really do need to pick Patrick O'Brian's brain about where in the world he got his different speech patterns from

Got a question; Does Nari celebrate any of Lamb's old holidays and traditions with them? Any Nari would particularly enjoy if so?
the lamb doesn’t remember everything, but I’m sure Narinder would participate in something important to them! I hc the lambs to have their own ways of gravekeeping and grief that he’d feel most comfortable in partaking
not traditions or anything, but my lamb’s favorite place when traveling with their herd was rocky cliffsides by the coast, and I think after some years of godhood they allow themself to visit that place, and Narinder is welcome to join

people actually went on about how game of thrones made it socially acceptable to be a fantasy nerd, as though the lord of the rings movies hadn't been released less than a decade earlier and left far greater cultural ripples and i am just
got may have made the adults feel better about liking fantasy, but lotr got into the kids' heads when they (we) were just young and impressionable enough to be absolutely transported and emotionally rewritten by don't you leave him, samwise gamgee and my brother, my captain, my king and and rohan will answer
lotr was rewriting entire generations' brain chemistry long before asoiaf and so obviously it's not fair to compare any post-lotr fantasy novel to it, and each book series was trying to do different things within their own spheres and so that also is not a fair comparison, but in terms of the cultural impact of the adaptations that came out within a decade of each other, saying that it was game of thrones that made fantasy mainstream is baffling
game of thrones could only run because the lord of the rings movies laid the path, and i will die on this hill

I can't get over this scene and image. Like already it HURT ME to watch, especially live, it hurts to watch again after the fact. Even when watching streamers react to it, I still cry.
But... the implications of it that I don't see people talking about much.. is that this is the HEART of the facility. GL!Ranboo dies, at the center of Showfall Media. As the actual creator of Generation Loss, Ranboo themself is the literal heart of the show!! It's their story, their ideas, their SHOW!
And now, GL!Ranboo has died and become one with the heart of Showfall Media, become also a literal heart of the show. Possibly freed from the cycle, but still a major part of it.
Ranboo has said he wouldn't be the main protagonist or really acting in any future generations at this moment, as he more enjoys the writing aspect. And this moment? Well I think that it's showing that in a literal sense. Even if not intentionally.
GL!Ranboo's time as an actor for Showfall ended, the audience set him free through death. But.. physically they are one with the heart of Showfall forever, continuing to fuel the show in a sense. Which in canon is horrifying GL!Ranboo will forever be one with Showfall, maybe even becoming the power source or idea source for future shows. As a reflection to how the real Ranboo is the driving force behind Genloss and already has a bunch of ideas in store for the future generations.
Ranboo has also said they were going to use the box again potentially, to get their money's worth of course. Now that could be for stream bits or videos! But it most likely could be for other generations, showing maybe other characters getting their heads crushed.. the next generation is suppose to be more religious themed. As well the box seemed to be designed like it had been used before GL!Ranboo's head was crushed. But I think it could be used to show GL!Ranboo is still a part of Showfall as the heart of the company, still stuck to a wall. If they went that route of course.
...Oh god they literally got crucified, and got "resurrected" to become one with god/the show runners. Like ths probably wasn't the intentional take away from this scene, but OH GOD THE IMPLICATIONS!! Always think of the implications!!!!
