Abolition For Beginners (2023 Edition)

In honor of Tyre Nichols and all others we have lost to policing and imprisonment. In honor of Black History Month. In honor of Better Future Program's mission to educate and serve marginalized youth globally... Let's break down abolition, again. (As usual on Tumblr, tap for better quality.)

Slide No. 2 reads:

Abolition is an anti-capitalist, intersectional framework that aims to not only destroy the cages created by various “industrial complexes,” but to create inclusive, effective alternatives for addressing harm. As defined by Dr. Jennie Wang-Hall, an “industrial complex (IC) is a system that creates profit through embedding into social inequities and providing an ineffective product that keeps consumers under-resourced and returning for more.”

The most common examples of such systems? Prison and policing, psychiatry, foster care/family policing, the military, and even the Family (as an institution, not kinship altogether).

Despite common misconceptions, abolition is not just a negation of what currently exists, but an active evolution of what community-based support can and has looked like. Abolition is about the radical working-class imagination, about Black and Indigenous imagination.

If individualistic, reactive, punishment-based strategies are maintained, true accountability and rehabilitation will never exist. Instead, we can choose to be proactive, analyze the circumstances that perpetuate violence, and address harm at the root! Of course, no one is saying that harm will completely cease to exist, but to paraphrase butch anarchist Lee Shevek, wouldn’t it be a profound improvement to expand our capacity to respond to harm and challenge our abusers, rather than being restricted to system-granted authority? Especially when such systems deliberately ignore the suffering of marginalized communities (e.g. people of color, queer and trans folks, women and femmes, Mad and disabled folks, and so on) to begin with?

Slide No. 3 reads:

Before we continue any further, let’s destroy the myth that cops actually stop violence. First off, we can’t depend on crime stats at face value because this begs the question of who exactly gets to define what counts as a “crime” and why (e.g. drug possession and sleeping in public vs. tax evasion of the wealthy and wage theft). Continuing, crime rates often only reflect violations that have actually been reported, chosen to be shown, and deemed out of line. By this logic, crime rates are simply reflections of cops’ perceptions, not of the material and emotional realities of the proletariat (i.e. the working-class).

As for perpetuating violence, “US law enforcement killed at least 1,183 people in 2022, making it the deadliest year on record for police violence.” (And those are just the deaths that were reported. In our home state of Louisiana, turns out the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, as of January 12, 2023, has been unlawfully destroying records of officer misconduct for at least 10 years.) Many (69%) of these murders were cases in which no offense was alleged, were mental health or welfare checks, or involved traffic violations and other nonviolent offenses.

This is, of course, without even touching on the involuntary servitude (i.e. enslavement) and maltreatment ongoing in American prisons. How many more deaths must occur before the general public says enough is enough? Or is this acceptable since these are working-class, disabled, Mad, non-white, queer, and trans lives being lost?

Slide No. 4 reads:

So we agree police are harmful. Why abolition instead of reform? Historically, reforms have either provided further funding to the prison, foster care, and psychiatric industrial complexes and/or just reinforced harmful ideologies surrounding policing as a whole. And trust us, these systems already have more than enough money. In the fiscal year of 2021, at least $277,153,670,501 were spent on federal law enforcement and prisons as well as on police and prisons by state and local governments. Can you even conceptualize a number that large? We could end all American medical debt with that much money. We could even provide clean water and waste disposal to everyone on Earth!

Continuing, reforms like body cameras are pitched as making officers more accountable, that if “done right” policing will actually keep people safe, and that those who do not use excessive force are suddenly no longer guilty of perpetuating centuries worth of systemic oppression. In reality, body cameras require further funding and increase surveillance!

Similarly, civilian oversight boards and the push to “jail killer cops” reinforce the belief that cases of murder, assault, falsifying information, and so on are exceptional occurrences rather than intrinsic to the very nature of policing itself. This is where the phrase “All Cops Are Bastards” comes into play, stating that while the individual character of some officers may be morally permissible, all cops are part of a “bastardized,” or corrupt, system.

Slide No. 5 reads:

Even laws don’t prevent police violence, e.g. the murder of Eric Garner despite the NYPD passing a policy against chokeholds, or the murder of Daunte Wright despite the passing of the George Floyd Law Enforcement Trust and Integrity Act and a separate Justice in Policing Act of 2020.

Alternatively, we can advocate against the expansion of policing “responsibilities,” i.e. not allowing officers to address Mad individuals in vulnerable states, the housing crisis, or people who use drugs (PWUD). We can reroute funding into non-coercive, peer-led initiatives for harm reduction, de-escalation, first aid, and self-defense. And maybe most importantly, we can reaffirm that EXTENSIVE power can, in fact, be found amongst everyday folks like you and me!

Abolition is not a one-and-done sort of deal but rather a progression of steps toward an infinite future of improvements. The act of building parallel infrastructures and modes of governance while the previous ones still exist is known as dual power. Abolition must begin as dual power. We can start today!

And in building such, these steps cannot: legitimize or expand oppressive systems we aim to dismantle, create divisions between “deserving” and “underserving” people, preserve existing power relations, or utilize exclusionary, one-size-fits-all, standardized treatments.

Slide No. 6 reads:

One of the main questions brought up, though, is what abolitionists plan to do in the case of homicide, rape, domestic violence, and other harms. While this is entirely valid, this question seems to imply that 1) police are already effectively responding to such harms rather than perpetuating and/or ignoring them and 2) that there is one collective abolitionist response.

For one, the majority of sexual assault, for example, goes unreported and less than 0.5% of perpetrators are incarcerated. (And this assumes that through the reporting process and incarceration, survivors will somehow find healing, perpetrators will find understanding, and that sexual assault does not continue within prisons.) Meanwhile, let’s use our hometown as one example of many, a complaint of sexual violence is filed against a New Orleans Police Department officer every 10 days and nearly 1 in 5 NOPD officers have been reported for sexual and/or intimate partner violence.

And secondly, we have a plethora of organizations like Critical Resistance and cultures like that of the Diné (Navajo) to learn from and build upon. We don’t have to be stuck within this false dilemma fallacy, that there is only policing or total chaos. Don’t you see that that is the state’s way of constricting communal power?

Slide No. 7 reads:

To expand this conversation, abolition heavily aligns with the political ideal of “anarchism.” Anarchism supports the absence of government and absolute freedom of the individual. And despite its negative connotations, anarchy also reflects an evolution of community-based care rather than just a deconstruction of what currently exists.

A simplified version of its 6 agreed-upon principles are:

Autonomy and Horizontality: define yourself on your own terms, we stand on an equal footing

Mutual Aid: bonds of solidarity form a stronger social glue than fear, support your community

Voluntary Association: associate or don't associate with whomever you wish

Direct Action: accomplish goals directly rather than depending on representatives or authorities

Revolution: overthrow those in power who enforce coercive hierarchies (ex. white supremacy)

Self-Liberation: you must be at the forefront of your own liberation, freedom must be taken

While being an abolitionist does not require alignment with anarchism, it is worth considering how the state plays such an enduring role in various social harms. Concurrently, whenever you treat other living beings with consideration and respect, come to reasonable compromise rather than coercion, and decide to share or delegate tasks, you are already living by anarchist principles.

So, how can you get involved? How do we continue the efforts already being made by activists worldwide? After such an overload of information and even more to learn, we understand how political frameworks like abolition can seem daunting, but they don't have to be! Here are some general next steps:

Read the "8toAbolition" steps.

Look into "podmapping" so you know whom to run to when you have been harmed or perpetuate harm.

See if there are any pre-existing mutual aid networks in your community, and if not, start one with your neighbors or peers!

Begin to research issues affecting communities other than your own. Abolition is intrinsically tied to all of us as we are all surveilled. For example, do you understand how prison and policing further ableism, transphobia, or the sex trade? What about policing internationally (see our allies in: the Kingdom of Hawai'i, Palestine, Artsakh, Kashmir...)?

Research the differences between capitalism, socialism, and communism. Abolition and anti-capitalism are foundational to one another as well.

Look into the other industrial complexes we named in the beginning (psychiatry, foster care, the military, the Family...).

Volunteer (remotely or in-person) with organizations like Better Future Program (@bfpnola) to both educate yourself and directly serve your community!

Welcome Home Hyacinth Theory 🏠🪻🐛

Hello Tumblr! Most Welcome Home theories are just little bits and pieces or “Wally is evil, guys look!”/”Wally is not evil! He is a goober!” etc.

This theory is fully fledged and provides a plot and evidence. I call it the Welcome Home “Hyacinth” theory, after the myth that it is based on. This will be a very long post so here is a TLDR: Julie kills Eddie while they are playing croquette-bowling out of jealousy because he is getting too close to Frank, who is supposed to be her boyfriend/best friend within the show. Either just Eddie or everyone involved gets replaced, except for Wally, who witnessed everything. This is why we have all of those videos of Wally dissociating.

I have been sitting around in my toom rambling to myself about this theory like a madman for over a week so I decided to share it.

Alright, let’s get into it! I have evidence to back up every single one of those claims, and I will include it in this post.

I want to be very thorough with explaining this. I’ll start by establishing that there are three main plots within Welcome Home (that I have noticed, anyways):

The plot of the late 60’s - early 70’s TV show, Welcome Home - only related to published episodes, books, audios, etc. that would have been shown to the public at the time of airing Welcome Home

“Behind the show” - feelings and actions of the puppets outside of the show (such as Frank and Eddie being a couple, or Frank being nonbinary)

The Welcome Home Restoration Project - people working to restore the TV show, Welcome Home, and find any and all information related to it and who made it

Okay so for the rest of this essay, when I mention BtS, it is related to the “behind the show” plot. I will color these things blue. When I write WtS, it is related to the “within the show” plot. I will color these things green. When I write WHRP, it is related to the Welcome Home Restoration Project. I will color these things pink. I will also mention things that have been said either on Clown’s Tumblr blog, Clown’s Twitter, or old streams. I will say CS, meaning “Clown source” to denote these things and color them orange. Clown source and behind the show areas often overlap, so Clown source information is dominant over behind the show information (if it is both I will just color it orange). Good? Good.

Now let’s establish our characters (only the ones related to this theory) and their relationships to one another. We’ll go alphabetically, starting with Eddie, then moving onto Frank, Julie, and Wally.

I’m going to assume that if you are reading this, you have already visited the website (clownillustration.com) and have a basic understanding of who Eddie is. So I will only focus on the elements of his character that will be relevant in this theory.

Eddie (WtS) is clumsy and overworks himself. He is often dragged into Julie’s games. His house (post office) looks like this:

Note the hyacinth flowers and the butterfly. Eddie (BtS) loves Frank. (CS) He is married to Frank in one art on Clown’s Tumblr. BY THE WAY IT TOOK FOREVER TO FIND THIS IMAGE!!!! THEY ARE IN THE BOTTOM LEFT CORNER!!

Frank (WtS) is Julie’s boyfriend as it is implied that they are a couple within the show (I know a lot of us don’t like hearing this, but remember the three plots) (also for everyone that is going to argue with me on this, go look on their little profiles in the neighborhood section of the website and come back to me) and best friend. His house looks like this:

(CS) As I said before, in one art on Clown’s Tumblr, Eddie and Frank are married (you can tell by the rings on their fingers in that image) . Frank is nonbinary but uses he/him pronouns (Clown refers to Frank on his blog with only he/him pronouns, so that is what I will use. Nonbinary people do not have to use they/them pronouns! Pronouns are not equal to gender!)

(WtS) Julie is a rainbow monster. Her thing is that she likes to make up and play games. She seems to be very strong (perhaps related to her being a rainbow monster), as she can easily lift Wally and is indirectly referenced to [throw a baseball very well] by Barnaby in the Live Interview audio. She also incorporates bowling into a lot of games where it is unnecessary. She seems to be immature, which is usually used to make her a playful character. Her and Frank are a couple. In several arts, her horns are different shapes or even nonexistent, implying that she has some ability to change her form. Her house looks like this:

Note the heart motif throughout the design. (BtS) Julie is best friends with Frank. (CS) She is genderfluid (she is only referred to using she/her pronouns on Clown’s blog, so that is what I will use).

(WtS) Wally is the main character in Welcome Home. His house is alive and is named Home. Home is often considered to be a ninth neighbor. Wally often communicates for Home. (WHRP) Wally signs Home’s name in the guestbook (as Home does not have hands) (please stop with the tentacles I have seen the art please stop for the love of god where did that even come from). (WtS) The other neighbors frequently ignore and talk over Wally, but he doesn’t seem to mind, saying that he loves all of his friends in the live interview audio.

Okay so now that that is established, let’s look at some promotional art. Promotional art is not necessarily canon and may contain outdated designs, but may hint at the plot of Welcome Home.

There is one more artwork that I would like to add, but it is on Clown’s KoFi. Here is a link to it that you can look at if you are subscribed to Clown’s KoFi:

I won’t describe the image because some of you may not be subscribed to Clown’s KoFi. But if you are, you will see that the image supports my theory.

While we are discussing that image, I would also like to say that I believe that the puppets are some kind of biological organisms. I don’t have much evidence for this right now, but I may make a theory in the future.

We will come back to those promotional arts soon. Right now, let’s look at Frank and Eddie’s houses and discuss some symbolism and mythology.

Frank’s house has sunflowers outside of it. Sunflowers are a symbol of Apollo. Eddie has hyacinths outside of his post office, obviously a symbol of Hyacinthus. Hyacinthus and Apollo were lovers, but Hyacinthus tragically died. Let me tell the story so we have context. (I am really into Greek mythology by the way, it’s always been a special interest since middle school but I am also a Hellenic pagan, you should follow my witchcraft and paganism blog, creatively named @maxiswitchcraftandpaganblog)

So Apollo, god of the sun, art, archery, and LOTS of various other things, loved Hyacinthus, who was a mortal Spartan man. And Hyacinthus loved him too, by the way. The god of the (west? don’t feel like googling it) wind, Zephyrus, was jealous of Hyacinthus, because he also loved Apollo.

One day, Apollo and Hyacinthus were playing discus (like frisbee but the frisbee is giant and made of metal, kind of like a shield). Apollo threw the discus to Hyacinthus, but Zephyrus blew the discus off course with the wind, causing it to hit Hyacinthus in the head and kill him. Apollo created the hyacinth flower from Hyacinthus’ blood as he died, but in some myths made him a god. (read more on Apollo and Hyacinthus here)

I’m going to draw some parallels here. Frank = Apollo, Eddie = Hyacinthus, Julie = Zephyrus. Now Frank’s and Eddie’s parallels make sense because of the flowers, but where did I get Julie=Zephyrus from? Recall that (WtS) Julie and Frank are supposed to be a couple. Now, (BtS) Julie may or may not like Frank in that way, but she certainly enjoys being close to him as his best friend. Since she is already established as an immature character, it would make sense that she would be jealous seeing Frank get closer to Eddie.

Pause. So WtS, Frank and Julie are together. BtS, Frank and Eddie are together. If these are separate, then what is Julie jealous about? (WtS) Frank has been seen getting closer to Eddie even in the official material of the show. An example of this is him telling Eddie that he works too hard at the end of the “Eddie’s Big Lift” storybook record. So his BtS love for Eddie is leaking into the WtS canon. That is a problem for Julie, who is supposed to be Frank’s girlfriend WtS. So she comes up with an idea to fix this, much like the jealous god, Zephyrus.

So what does she do? Let’s turn our attention to the “Just So” song demo. This song was never finished with instrumentals, and for a reason. The puppets function as actors in the show, as it is obvious that they have their own free will, and Julie does something that the writers do not expect later in this episode. So the song was never finished because the episode was ruined.

In the “Just So” song demo, Frank and Julie are about to play croquette bowling. It was supposed to be just croquette, as Frank put on his croquette bow tie, but last minute, Julie added bowling to the mix.

Wally knocks on the door and interrupts their song, saying that Home wants to play croquette bowling too. This implies that Julie told someone else that they would be playing croquette bowling after she added bowling. I feel like Wally and Home overheard Julie telling Eddie that they would be playing croquette bowling. This would make sense, as Wally often stands by and listens while the other neighbors talk. It is not unusual for Eddie to participate in Julie’s games, either, as we see from Julie playing “business woman in the big city” with him. [add a photo]

The song recording ends before we see them playing croquette bowling together. But I have a piece of evidence to tell us how it ends. Look at this promotional art again.

You probably assumed that the figure in the back was holding a hammer, but that could actually be a croquette mallet!

It’s covered in some gory-looking stuff, probably from Eddie. Now look at the flower. Whose eyes look like that? Almond-shaped, round pupils. Only one character: Wally. Wally was a witness, which would make sense for him, since he often watches on as the other neighbors do things.

Julie is holding the flower in front of her, looking innocent. This is a stretch, but I think that this might be symbolism for her saying that she didn’t do it on purpose, Wally saw the whole thing, ask him! And Wally doesn’t know what to do. I don’t know what he does from there.

Maybe this image is a clue? I genuinely don’t know. Once again, promotional art is not necessarily canon, but we can use the concepts from it in theories.

This next part is also a bit of a stretch. The neighbors having a memory of something like that happening would ruin their “acting” (I think they are just being recorded as they do what they would naturally do). The show can’t have that. The solution? Replace everyone involved.

Now go back and look in the promotional art section and look at that art of Frank. It looks like Frank is laying among extra puppet parts. They have extras!

And this is why Wally is dissociating in the videos we see when we click on the bugs. They did not replace him, because like the neighbors, they didn’t even notice he was there.

Okay yeah that’s the theory. It was really hard to get this into a coherent Google Doc and gather all the links. I was just rambling to myself about this in my room over and over pacing around for like a week. But yeah here you go, hope it's a good theory, sorry if it's not lol please be nice to me

How to recognize AI "Art"

A post I have wanted to make for a long time because I think it's important to know! Please mind that this is not 100% accurate and I am by no means an expert on AI art. My knowledge on the topic comes from a semester of research on the development of AI art and how it has improved over the years. I wrote a pretty intense paper on it (I got an A on this!) and I am now using this knowledge to help identify AI art.

I often ask myself "did an actual person make this art or did they just generate it?" because I WANT TO SUPPORT ARTISTS WITH A REBLOG BUT AI "ART" IS NOT ART!!!!

Image description and tags, other posts by the same user If there is no image description by OP, that's usually a bit sketchy. Also read tags other people have added in their reblogs! And look at other posts from the same user!

Features blending In an image where a person is wearing glasses, do they maybe merge into the skin a bit? (see Image 9)

Circular artefacts TBH I forgot why they happen but one paper I studied discussed ways to remove them because they are an obvious giveaway that an image is artificial (see Image 10)

4. Problems with text or other "logical composition stuff" (sorry I'm bad at words) AI is bad at generating text! It looks like words, but it makes no sense. In Image 3, where does the cat's paw come from? (Also note here that DALL-E puts those coloured squares in the bottom right corner).

Take a closer look at the hands of the women in the image on the bottom right. How many are there? Hands are also a good indicator!

5. mismatched earrings/eyes... ("long range dependencies") Human faces are symmetric, we (usually) have two eyes, two ears... That's a problem for AI. Earrings and eyecolours usually have to match. Either side may look perfectly fine, but when you look at is as a whole, it does not always work.

6. seems "too smooth"? I've noticed a lack of texture. Brushstrokes are missing, everything seems just a little flat. There are definitely generative models that can emulate brush strokes, but watch out for backgrounds. They sometimes give it away!

7. read this article for a lot of additional information!

8. something I found in this article that is not mentioned: the harsh contrast I have taken the below pictures from that article, and you can see some very "harsh" areas around the irises in the pictures with the eyes, or around the kids

In the two images below, I have just marked some areas that seem off and I will briefly discuss why:

Left (Image 9): In Halbrand's hair, there seems to be part of a crown or some other adornment, but it's not quite there. You can also see the general "smoothness" in this image. Another suspicious looking area is Galadriel's neck. Between their faces, you can see the mountain range in the background continue, but it stops exactly where the strand of hair is. On the right side of the image, there are some bright spots on the rocks that also look a bit weird.

Right (Image 10): I have marked some spots that I think look a bit like circular artifacts (that have probably already been "treated" by the generative model). On the bottom left side I have circled this jar? vase? Whatever. You can see that the lid and the rest of the object don't align.

Once again: DISCLAIMER - I could be wrong! This is really hard because the generative models get better.

Our header and the phrase “Not seeing is believing” in our first post came straight from the first DP trailer, which featured the sentence as the show’s catchphrase in its last frame. The phrase was used on all trailers up until the premiere.

*posts a little smut from my lake house modern/muggle Jegulus AU fic and runs away*

James takes a step forward, leaving barely an inch between them. He pushes a tuft of Regulus’ hair behind his ear and whispers into his skin. “I thought maybe the kissing thing would have given you a hint.”

Goosebumps start to crawl down Regulus’ arms as James runs his fingers gently from Regulus’ shoulder to his wrist. When he gets to the bottom of his arm, he wraps his hand around his wrist once again, far more gently this time. He places a painfully gentle kiss on his neck right where he had whispered moments before.

Oh.

When their mouths meet again, Regulus becomes desperately hungry. James only gives him seconds of satisfaction before pulling back.

Regulus' chest rises fast, wondering if he’s about to be left unsatisfied and wanting yet again. If James is just doomed to be a source of torture.

Instead, James takes him by the elbow and leads him around the corner of the shack. He pulls the rickety door open and guides Regulus inside.

When the door shuts behind them, James’ all but pounces.

He pushes Regulus back against the door, a perfectly mirrored image of what James had done in his bedroom a week prior. It must be his move, Regulus thinks briefly as he opens his mouth and lets James’ tongue press against his.

He feels James’ hands wander all over his back and shoulders.

Jesus christ he is a good kisser.

Regulus can feel himself getting hard far too quickly under James’ touch. Every inch of his skin is on fire as James’ hands find the skin under his shirt and his palms press into Regulus’ hips.

When James squeezes into Regulus' hips, a moan dispels from Regulus’ throat without permission. He doesn’t have time to be ashamed of the noise, because it seems to send James into a state of frenzied desire.

James picks him up and pins him against the door, letting him wrap his legs around his waist. The pressure of James’ body against him starts to tighten Regulus from the inside out. Fuck he’s not going to last long like this.

He reaches down and pulls at James’ shirt, stripping it off and throwing it to the ground. He moves his mouth to James’ neck, running his tongue on the thin skin there before placing a gentle bite into his neck. The sound James makes at his teeth sinking in is both heavenly and a fucking sin.

James let’s Regulus’ feet find the ground while his hands find the edge of Regulus’ shorts. He stops moving, his fingers tucked just inside the band of his swim trunks.

“Is this okay?”

Regulus smiles, letting out a breathy laugh. He nods eagerly, “Yeah, it’s okay.”

James has a wicked smile as he returns his mouth to Regulus’ and slowly pulls his shorts down just enough. He pulls back momentarily and licks the palm of his hand. Regulus throws his head back as James takes him into his hand and starts making slow and steady strokes. “Fucking hell.”

Shit, did he say that out loud?

James laughs a bit before making his way to Regulus’ neck. His tongue makes small circles as he kisses all over his neck and shoulder and he continues his perfectly pressured motions. Regulus lets his head fall forward onto James’ shoulder as he feels the pleasure start to build inside of him. He’s just on the edge of release when James starts shuddering against him and taking a deep breath in.

He looks up to see James making a face that is so free and slack and pleasured that it sends him right over the edge with him.

content warning: very very mild special effects gore(?) i have no idea if this could be upsetting to some, the stuff shown is 99% free of blood, not super high quality, and also very clearly fake. im putting this warning here just in case!

hi! so my full set of the little shop of horrors topps bubblegum cards just got here (long name i know). i bought them partially as an early birthday present for myself, but also because the cards include a very interesting piece of info/trivia that ive become completely obsessed with. take a look at this:

this is a picture of the card that i took! its the scene where seymour is feeding pieces of orin to twoey, but as you can see, he's holding his head. hes Holding Orin's Severed Head. hoooooly shit, right??? you can see his face is frozen with that goofy grin and everything, its so cool!!!!! im gonna go into more detail about it under the cut, its a big ol ramble so fair warning

so, if youve seen the movie you probably know that (unfortunately) there isn't any part where you see this head. thats because it was a prop that ended up being totally scrapped from the scene! im still actively gathering information, but from what i can piece together from older drafts of the script along with the workprint, the original plan was to show orin's head (big, stupid grin and all) being fed to audrey II

this concept was, at the very least, held onto long enough for a prop replica of steve martin's/orin scrivello's head and face to be fully created. however, as seen in the workprint of the movie, all footage of the head shows only the back of it, with zero glimpse of its face.

and as we know, in the final version of the movie there arent any severed head props to be seen, meaning it got entirely left on the cutting room floor. i havent been able to find any written info about it so far, so i cant tell you the exact reason why it ended up being scrapped. my personal guesses are that it was considered too scary or dark, test audiences reacted badly to it, and/or the head wasnt considered convincing enough to be included.

in a previous version of this post, i stated that i believed there was only 1 existing photo of the head's face, that being the one on the trading card. im happy to report that i was incorrect, as ive now found a Second Image!!!! this one is from a slightly different angle, and its much higher quality than the previous image, allowing us to see more detail on the prop itself!! here, take a look:

for one, i gotta express how EXCITED i was to find this!!!! this new photo allows us to see that the prop itself has quite a bit of detail to it! you can see the creases in its face, not just around the mouth but the eyes and forehead as well! the whole face is impressively realistic, i would say the eyes (or at least the eye thats visible) is a bit uncanny, but every else looks so so good!! there also appears to be some blood stains on the shirt collar and neck, and even more blood stains on the fabric that seymour is holding. something like this was definitely made with a lot of attention to detail and a lot of skill, which makes it even more gutwrenching that it got left completely cut out. im really happy that we have another photo of it, though!!

i'll update this post as needed, once/if i find anything else that relates to this (admittedly very very niche) topic. if youve read the whole thing, thank you!! i really really appreciate it, i hope you found all this as interesting as i did!!!

What did Star Stable not want us to see?

…At least not yet.

(In this post, I present the portal room’s murals in the order they are seen from right to left, as this is the order one will walk past them when going to them either from the steps to the portal or directly from the portal room’s entrance. Concept art from Viktor Porse Schalin’s website.) I suspect Tumblr will mess with the image quality, so here's a link to the high-quality image of the murals.

This image, the first of the murals from right to left, is not broken even in the portal room. This image lets us see a few things more clearly, though. A few figures with long, white hair are present—those are the only people seen wielding staffs. The figure leading the caravan has the longest hair and is also wielding the brightest glowing staff. At the back of a caravan is a figure carrying a large backpack and wielding a staff which does not glow.

The white-haired figure in the bottom left seems to be facing smaller objects lying on the ground next to its staff, which is not glowing. It is reaching its arms towards and being watched by a white-haired figure holding a glowing staff, though this staff glows weaker than the one being held by the figure leading the caravan.

The second image shows two white-haired figures both carrying staffs; one not glowing and one glowing brightly. The figure leading the way here seems to be the same one that led the caravan in the first image. The other figure is carrying a large backpack.

In Fort Maria’s portal room, a corner of this image is broken off. That corner shows the crown of a giant tree. Its leaves resemble the rays of light surrounding the figures’ staffs and some of the goods, a small spherical object being held by a small tree, and one of the portals in the first mural.

The third mural seems to be a map, presumably of Jorvik’s Primeval Trees.

In Fort Maria’s portal room, three large pieces of this mural have broken off. The bottom left piece depicted part of an image of tentacles coming out of what looks like stone and water (waves can ben seen right below the tentacles). The bottom left piece depicted a small tree holding a sun-like spherical object surrounded by rays of light, much like the other small trees in the mural, with a stone path leading up to it. The top piece depicted three things: the top of a tree bearing heavy resemblance to the Wildwoods’ Sentinel Tree; a heavy meteor shower; and something that looks like a portal situated next to a hill with trees growing on it. The trees could be either spruce, fir, or pine.

The final mural depicts three large trees.

In Fort Maria’s portal room, this mural is by far the most damaged: the centre third of the mural has been completely broken off. The missing part of the mural provides a clear depiction of the third, central tree, which bears a resemblance to the smaller tree in the second image. Below the tree is a large, circular glowing area—perhaps a portal. Across the glowing area from the tree stand two white-haired figures. The one with the longer hair holds a brightly glowing staff and stands in front, facing the tree. The other figure is carrying a large backpack and holding a staff which does not glow, and is looking slightly away from the figure in front and the tree. These appear to once again be the same two figures that appeared in the first and second murals.

With all of this in mind I am still confident the intended order to initially see the murals in is right to left (which is also supported by the increasing amount of things and weight of the things missing from each mural when read right to left). However, I think the story of the murals is to be read and understood in the following order:

4. The two figures, a leader and their follower, depicted discovering a great source of power—a Primeval Tree.

2. The leader and their follower journeying along the Weald Weave, the paths between the Primeval Trees, and charting it out.

3. The map of the Primeval Trees and the Weald Weave that was subsequently made.

1. The pathways have been deemed safe and are now an important mode of traversal and transport. Large-scale exploitation, if you will.

Now, one might assume these murals depict the Vala, and that could very well be the case. It’s just… I don’t remember ever hearing about the Vala coven’s large-scale transportation of goods through the Weald Weave, which they treasure and guard very dearly. Therefore, I raise a different theory. One I think the people of Tumblr will like very much.

The leader and the follower might be Jon Jarl and Gunnar Thrymson.

Or it might not. Even if it’s not Vala, maybe it’s early Druid settlers?

Either way… I can’t make that part with the goods transportation fit in with the Vala.

Things I can’t quite figure out:

- In-story, why are the murals broken? Why some more than others?

- Purely from a game developer “they shouldn’t see this yet” perspective, the meteors have to hold significance—look at how deliberately they were cut out. Why? In what way?

- In the first image (right to left), who are the two people on the bottom pathway? They’re facing each other, and the figure on the left is even reaching its arms out towards the other figure. Take a look at their surroundings as well: the portal and the stone structure make the place they’re in strongly resemble Fort Maria’s portal room.

Does anyone still look at people's desktop blogs? You totally should because I just added a custom cursor to my theme <3

My simple method below (people who actually know how to code are physically manifesting worms in my home):

pick the image you want as your cursor; I'd personally recommend a transparent png

(optional step that I did) open the image editing program of your choice and add a png of a cursor to the very top left corner; makes your custom cursor easier to use especially if it's a weird shape

you need the image to have a url, so post it somewere online if it isn't already. I made a private tumblr post. More worms are manifesting

copy the code below without adding or removing spaces or anything else

replace IMG URL in the code with the url of your desired image

go to our blog theme on desktop: [your url here].tumblr.com

edit appearance from the top right (the pallette icon)

copypaste your shiny code into the bottom of the description. Don't worry, it won't be visible once you hit save

hit save

exit

voila 👍

Hi! Your recent post about gifmakers was so good, I was hoping you could help me navigate tumblr etiquette around gifs.

I assume it's cool to search for gifs via the tumblr search and embed in to my posts, and add alt text if it doesn't already exist, without reaching out to creators or tagging them in addition to the existing credit on the gif, since I think that's opt-in and they get alerts. Am I right about that?

If I can't find a good gif in the search, but I know folks have made good ones in gifsets that I can find in people's posts other ways, is there accepted etiquette around this? Do I need to reach out to the gifmaker first, or look for a statement on their blog? Or is it acceptable to copy the URL and embed it into my post, and then tag the gifmaker and link the post it came from in my post? Or is that last step unnecessary if the gif is already a link?

Just trying to be a good tumblr citizen! Thanks for your help.

Hi! I'm definitely not an expert on this, but I can offer some suggestions based on what I've seen others do. Generally, I think it's fine to use the tumblr gif search function (the yellow 'GIF' button) to embed a gif in your post, since it displays and links the source of the gif. Creators should get a notification when one of their gifs has been added to a post. Here's an example of what using this method looks like:

Admittedly, it's pretty hard to find what you're looking for using the tumblr gif search function. When people embed a gif in a different way (such as copying and embedding the gif link), I've seen them give credit to the creator by tagging them, which will give them a notification. This method doesn't automatically include a link to the original gifset (just a link to the individual gif), so you have to add that manually if you'd like to do so. Here's an example of what using this method looks like:

You can add alternate text (or an 'image description') to a gif that you embed by clicking on the three dots that show up in the bottom right corner when you hover over a gif. You can view the alternate text by clicking on the 'ALT' button in the bottom left corner of the gif. I've added alternate text to the gif below so you can see what it looks like once you do so:

If you want to add alternate text to an entire gifset, I would reblog the original post and type out the alternate text below or ask the original creator if they'd be open to adding alternate text to their post.

A few people have asked me about my SillyPunk vest that I put that patch on yesterday. I don't have any recent photos of me wearing it because my apartment hasn't had hot water for like three weeks and sponge bathing with cold water has left my hair a wreck, but here's the front as it is on the back of my computer chair. The whole vest can be seen here in the post where I bought it (image also captioned)

That's the sticker Maryland gave out with the first round of vaccinations. I wanted to keep it for posterity, so I stuck it to some cardstock, sealed it all with Mod Podge, went over the image part with some Mod Podge Dimensional Magic, and then stuck a safety pin on with some strong duct tape. The key is something I found on the top of my door frame in my old place. I just noticed something shiny on the corner of the door frame, reached up, and found it. Neither tumblr nor reddit could figure out what it was a key to. Mine now.

Hi! I'm Aly, I'm an epileptic, mentally ill, queer, non-binary person!

I am currently studying to be a paramedic (18 months to go!). I am happy to discuss medical procedures in hospitals, and what may happen if an ambulance is called for you, however please do not ask me for medical advice.

This blog is mostly dedicated to epilepsy, the experiences that come along with it, and navigating a world that was not designed for epileptic people. I will also post safety resources here for both epileptic people and non-epileptic people who either know epileptic people and want to know how to keep them safe, or just for general knowledge. I will also post content about other disabilities, chronic illness and being queer/trans!
