I know I don't really owe anyone an explanation, but. Anyone who's ever followed my fic "wherever you go, I won't be far to follow", the thing is, I wrote the entire story down. I did it by hand, as I usually do. I really really liked the ending.
And then I lost it. The notebook. I couldn't find it one day, and I was mad at myself because I should have typed it up, and just thinking about it now kinda makes me feel awful. I was feeling it particularly today. Most fics I've stopped, I've generally lost interest in, but not that one. It was just...lost. and it crushes me a little
Still love Soma and Megumi tho

I was thinking about Soma and Megumi recently:
A great thing about their friendship is that he lets her cry and is witness to almost all the times she does so. He doesn't ever tell her to stop crying (like he does to Alice after she loses) nor does Soma mock her for crying (ep 11 he laughs briefly at a possible future outcome, not the crying itself).
And Soma even lets Megumi have her moments (however long she needs) and sometimes not interrupting her overwhelmed states (like his hand on her shoulder after she beat kojiro). He doesn't get mad at her either or call her mean nicknames. I like this from Soma's perspective.
But I also like that Megumi cries the most around him.
I think she feels the most comfortable being around Soma, ultimately showing her vulnerabilities to him (not doing well in school up til now).
And how easily Megumi even cries happy tears around Soma too, such as when she's proud of him or them both having a nice time together! And even when she doesn't let her happy tears fall, is special too!

Ships That I will Kill on my Hill for
Nuts and Dolts!
Ruby and Penny are just so cute together and just so full of affection for each other. Like this ship is so sweet. In canon the fact that it's Tragic does not negate the fact that even Neo(who considered Ruby her Archenemy) saw them together and Shipped them. *That's how much chemistry they had.
Wonder Woman and Etta Candy.
Etta's the closest to Diana and Hestia's Hearth their relationship is super emotionally intimate. And their chemistry!Etta's always been the most awesome of Diana's main supporting cast. And like look Diana's Bi, Etta's a lesbian, they're literally two steps away from being an adorable couple on par with Hippolyta and her wife! Why *aren't* more of y'all shipping this! DC!!! Give me my WonderCandy canon!
SouMegu
Now with Shokugeki no Souma people Say SouRina is Endgame and that's simply not true. It wasn't confirmed. Y'all SouMegu is where it's at in terms of Intimate development. Likes for real Megumi got pushed forward and started growing on her own thanks to Souma giving her a push and Souma reliably contacts Megumi, relies on her for important things, and deeds her *all* of his cooking first when they're in the same country. I will remain resolute on this Ship!
Peter Parker x MJ
Peter and Mary Jane are perfect for each other. Like literally the only thing that broke them up were outside forces like Mephisto and Time dilation where M.J was stuck with another dude for 20 years with nothing else to do. Like both separations could have been handled *so* much better. But *no* divorces age the characters. They're in their thirties y'all. The Divorce would have been amicable had it been allowed! And the reconciliation would have been Amazing! I maintain that while Peter and M.J are perfect for each other, they're so good because they're pulled in different directions.
Wanda and Vision.
I liked this couple. They were sweet and started a family. That was real. Their love was real. They powered through discrimination together. They were just really cute together and should totally give romance another try once Viv is independent. They're both in a good headspace to reconnect romantically. I mean Wanda already considers Viv Vision her daughter. I'm just saying that she Should become her Step-Mom

Megumi knew that her best friend had a small habit of collecting things that he thought 'looked cool'.
He had some snack wrappers tucked away in a bag because he liked the designs. He had little figurines from various gatcha machines on multiple surfaces in his room. There was even a plastic container half full with the stuff he found outside like pinecones and stones.
Stones like the one he had eagerly placed in her hand.
Megumi twisted it around, inspecting the bright yellow surface. It was too clean and smooth to be randomly picked up from the forest, even from the nearby banks. Soma must have bought it.
"It's a gemstone." The redhead announced as she continued to look at it. "There was a small event happening on my way back from the store and I went to check it out. The saleswoman said it was a citrine."
"It's very pretty." Megumi nodded.
"It is! She also asked if I knew the meaning of it. I told her that I knew a few but not this one."
"You know the meaning of gemstones?" Megumi marveled. Even though they were nearly attached to the hip, Megumi was always learning about him.
"A few." Soma clarified. "I found some interesting ones as I was looking up some of my other stones. But not this one. Anyways, she told me that there are reasons that people are drawn to certain gems even if they don't know the meaning."
Megumi hummed. The sentence was beautiful.
"I told her that I thought it reminded me of you when I saw it. It's the same color as your eyes."
It took Megumi two seconds for those words to set in. Once they did, she felt the heat rush to her face and she swore she could feel steam coming out from her.
"Th-That's...B-B-But your eyes are the same!" She managed to splutter out.
"I don't think my eyes are as shiny as yours. And this gem shines exactly like your eyes. And once the lady told me the meanings of citrine, it sounded more like you."
Megumi couldn't reply to prompt him for more information, as she was still reeling from what he had just said. But he continued anyways.
"It means positivity and luck. It's supposed to harness the sun's energy and bring light to your darkness. It's also called 'The Merchant's Stone' because of how much wealth it brings. And that's exactly what you do to me!"
"Oh..." Megumi managed to breathe out before her brain decided to shut down from this revelation.
(Soma later said that the gem worked because her head managed to fall on a floor cushion.)

Soumegu AU idea
Premise: World-famous Chef Yukihira Soma meets star table tennis player, Tadokoro Megumi.
I'm feeling a little down today, so I decided to share one of my favorite fanfic ideas (that I probably won't be doing anytime soon, but makes me smile whenever I think about it)(it's been so long but these two still has me so soft).
Before I start with the idea, though, here's a brief, meta aside: I genuinely believe that Food Wars would've been a completely different story without Tadokoro Megumi in Totsuki. I think having this sweet, kind, talented friend really set Soma on his path on being both competitive and compassionate (to an extent). Considering how bloodthirsty Totsuki is and how driven Soma is to win, I believe the absence of Megumi would've led him to become positively ruthless.
Which is why, within this AU, neither of them ever attended Totsuki in an official student capacity. In case anyone wonders later why I simply didn't have Megumi be the one to not attend. (I do have another AU idea of what would've happened if Megumi had dropped out in middle school and Soma attended Totsuki without her, but that's another story.)
So without further ado:
The story takes place when Megumi is around 26 years old, which is nearing retirement age for table tennis players. It's a tense, transitory period in Megumi's life, wherein she has to choose whether to continue with the tennis world in a different capacity (basically what her coach, fellow athletes, sponsorships want her to do, and which she feels obligated to) or to completely start over with something else (sometimes, she wonders).
The wondering is accentuated when Megumi is around Isshiki Satoshi, a good friend of hers who actually did attend Totsuki Culinary School . They met when she was a shy rising star teenager trying to gain the patronage of prominent Japanese families; Isshiki Satoshi took a liking to her, declaring her an honorary kouhai, guaranteeing her his family's support, and taking her under his wing and into fun little mini foodie adventures whenever he randomly pops into her life. She appreciates it, though she sometimes gets flustered.
Isshiki, by the way, has no idea Megumi liked to cook. He just assumes she has great taste in food.
Legit opening scene probably take place in the last table tennis match of the season (this may be a good time to note I know nothing about table tennis). Megumi wins second place, and while she puts on a smile about it, she is utterly disappointed.
Isshiki whisks her away after the match to a sophisticated restaurant that has a breathtaking view of the Tokyo skyline. Megumi admits to him that she knows this is one of her last chances to win--and while she has won numerous world championships before, ending on a high note is crucial if she wants to work as a coach and be a commercial figure in Japanese table tennis (basically a former athlete who promotes sports equipment, energy drinks, etc.). Isshiki, amused, notes that being a commercial star didn't sound like something Megumi would aspire to. Megumi says it's the natural next step, if she wants to continue to be well-known and make the most of her career.
There is something that Megumi is not telling him--Isshiki can sense it. But for all he adores her, she's not really his kouhai; they've never had a chance to really get to know each other outside of these spontaneous meetings. So he cheers her up the only way he knows how: through food.
Megumi is surprised by the dish she gets. It is what she ordered--a seafood pasta--but its sauce is dark purple with an indiscernible scent. Isshiki says not to worry--he knows the chef. Megumi takes a bite midway to talking about her career concerns to Isshiki, and instantly forgets about them as she is lost in the taste.
Isshiki grins at her blissed-out reaction. He tells her she should compliment the chef, and while Megumi is still shy and soft-spoken, she agrees that this dish deserves it. Isshiki signals the waiter (head of the staff, actually, considering how important Isshiki is) and the waiter goes to them smiling. Waiter's face drops, however, when he spots Megumi's dish, and his face darkens even more when Isshiki says they want to meet the chef. "I'm so sorry, sir," the head waiter says. "I will fetch the troublesome rapscallion right away."
Megumi is alarmed at this sudden framing, but Isshiki finds the whole thing hilarious.
Head waiter comes out dragging a red-headed chef by the arm. Head waiter then proceeds to profusely apologize for the conduct of so-called Chef Yukihira Soma--what Tadokoro-san was eating is most definitely not part of the menu and should not be considered as part of their prestigious restaurant, that Yukihira has a habit of throwing in strange concoctions of his own making despite numerous reprimands, and that the chef would be fired on the spot. Yukihira Soma just rolls his eyes. Head waiter asks Tadokoro-san to say exactly what she thinks of his dish and to not hold back.
After a beat of stammering, Megumi says, "I think it's the best thing I've ever eaten. That's all.")
Head waiter turns almost as purple as the pasta's sauce. Yukihira laughs, tosses off his apron, and seats himself at their table. Head waiter leaves without another world. Yukihira grins at Megumi and tells her, "That was the best way I ever got fired."
Megumi protests that they could talk to the head waiter, but Yukihira assures her he was on his way out anyway, and that this was far from the first time he left a job on terrible terms. Isshiki suggests they go someplace else for dessert.
In this wonderful confectionery space (probably one of the many branches of Momo's) Yukihira reveals that he and Isshiki also go way back. He never went to Totsuki (to Megumi's surprise)--but his dad thought it would be funny to have him intern at the Totsuki resort at the same time as the culinary school's students were having their training camp. That's where he met a bunch of students, including members of the Polar Star Dorm that introduced him to Isshiki.
There is a tense moment, when Soma stumbles over a name. Megumi doesn't know what it was, though she was sure it began with an Eri. She doesn't press, though.
Megumi asks instead why he didn't g to the official culinary school, considering that it's the absolute best in the world. Soma reveals that his dad thought it was too uppity, and preferred to train him one-on-one when Soma graduated high school. Soma turns the conversation back at her--she seemed to know an awful lot of Totsuki for someone who wasn't in the culinary world, and teases Isshiki for boasting too much about his alma mater. Megumi reveals shyly that she did once get an invitation to attend Totsuki, and seriously considered it. Both Soma and Isshiki are completely surprised. It's Soma's turn, then, to ask her why she didn't go.
But this is knocking on a door that Megumi had long since locked behind her. She looks down and said, "I had different priorities." Soma, grown up, is tactful enough not to ask any more questions.
He turns the subject instead to his original dish. He asked her if she meant what she said, that it was the best thing she's ever eaten, and she replies, "Of course." He smiles triumphantly. He'd been trying to get that peanutbutter squid recipe right for years.
With an evil glint, he asks if Megumi would like to try some of his other experimental dishes (apparently there are a number of small kitchens around the city that Soma can just walk in). Megumi, naive, says yes, and wonders why Isshiki is suddenly excusing himself. She find out as soon as she tries his spider-crunch-and-mint brownies.
He makes it up to her by giving her more refined dishes. And he appreciates that she tries to give him thorough feedback, though she's far too shy to offer him any suggestions. While walking her to her hotel, he asks her for her address so he can send her more dishes to taste test, and she reveals she'll be spending the next few months in her home town in the Tohoku region. Soma promises to be in touch.
There is a beat, in front of her hotel room, when Megumi realizes she doesn't want to lose his company. That spending the last few hours together was the most fun she's had for a very long time.
But that was silly. She practiced her dream sport every day.
She smiles and says good night, he says it back, they go on their separate ways, and the next day she's on a train to her small backwater town.
Which, by the way, isn't small and backwater anymore--after all, it's where star table tennis player Tadokoro Megumi lives. The place is rife of fan monuments dedicated to her, of posters and information detailing her childhood and her numerous victories. Tourists abound. Megumi smiles, assured once more that her choice had been worth it.
When she was younger, her town and her ryokan was struggling. She had a decision: use her unmistakable prowess in table tennis to gain prestige or attend bloodthirsty Totsuki with her hard-earned but tenuous talent. She chose the safer option.
Sometimes, though. She wonders.

Have you read the final volume of Food Wars! If so, what's your opinion on it?
I deeply apologize for the late response. I didn't receive a notice that someone had sent me a message.
I've read the final volume of Food Wars! and I wasn't impressed with what I saw. Some of it is the result of bias: I wasn't happy at all that SouMegu was dropped with a 3-ton hammer. I was also dismayed at the incest subtext between Erina and Asahi. It was a boring plot device so the mangaka could have Asahi lose interest in Erina. Honestly, I was hopelessly bored with the story and waiting for it to finally end.
On some level though I wish things had been different. Shokugeki no Soma has always been great at worldbuilding; you truly feel there's a wide world with all the different cultures the mangaka presents. For a shounen series, the author wasn't bad at writing character-centric writing too. And face it: a lot of people read the story simply to watch the various foodgasms, including yours truly.
That isn't what we got though. The final volume was the culmination of problematic storytelling that erupted ever since Azami's debut. On one hand, it was necessary: Erina was essentially a minor character and needed an excuse to become a main character + protagonist. On the other hand, Azami was written as a Scooby Doo villain, with little depth until his relationship with Mana was elaborated upon. Had these traits been elaborated upon and the villains written with 3-D instead of 2-D characterizations, BLUE would have been fantastic instead of being the trainwreck that it became. The storytelling would have remained solid and Food Wars! wouldn't have lost so much of its fanbase because of idiotic decisions... like introducing evil chefs.
Ultimately the story's conclusion was alright. It had potential, but like many other comics, the execution is where it flopped.

Long post! Ok I just started to watch the anime five days ago and read three mangas. I’m hooked!! It’s such a great show. Like so good. I learn so much. Plus the animations are super pretty too.
The pair I ship most is Soma and Megumi! I really love their relationship, in the anime and manga!
Moments that are sweet are when both Megumi and Soma are vulnerable with each other. They confide in one another so much. And the great thing is Megumi listens to Soma, and Soma listens to Megumi! They don’t interrupt each other and try to offer insight into problems and try to help!
Ooh segway from that, I like how Soma and Megumi both have told each other stuff about their families. Nice memories, tips, and how both of them have the support of their parent!
I know this next statement may sound weird but I noticed that Soma has his dad (and lost his grandpa and mom) while Megumi has her mom and grandpa (and lost her dad). Eh it’s kind of a teeny parralel I think.
Plus I think it’s really sweet that while Megumi was praying before her food war with Ryo, she asked Soma for strength and also felt his presence! And hoped that he was doing well too!
Oh man and they have so much faith and belief in each other! He is her biggest cheerleader and she is his number one cheerer! Whenever people doubt them, both Megumi and Soma usually speak up and mention their friend’s power to endure and take everything handed to them!
Oh man and their first day together cooking started with Soma encouraging Megumi and it only evolved from that! Gosh they support one another so much. It’s really beautiful! And when Soma said he’d rise to the top, he said “we” and made sure to help Megumi realize her potential too! And so they both want to push one another to be the best they can be!
Ok leading from that into this, she turned down two clubs to help him out in his personal challenge to take down Kuga in the Moon Festival! And it was just the two of them trying their hardest for days (before more friends showed up).
Plus she gives him cooking advice too! She’s an awesome sous chef for him and really fast and smart.
He also gives her lots of advice too! And is a great sous chef for her, anticipating what she needs right when she needs it and also before she does!
They both always put the customers and eaters (judges and opponents and teachers) first!
Plus when they taste one another’s food they totally love it! Besides Soma’s gross experiments haha. But then again, I appreciate that Megumi doesn’t immediately spit the food out but actually swallows it.
And the words from Joichiro about making the special person that taste tests Soma’s cooking his wife. I think Megumi and Soma would be great together especially since they try hard to improve one another’s dishes.
Plus Megumi is the only person who gets that he is trying to help Erina in his own way when he gives her “weird food” deemed by their friends.
This is a small point but I enjoy when Megumi and Soma stand next to each other, and when they immediately look for one another too!
Ooh and both ask questions and are usually the first to answer the other (Soma asks question which Megumi hears and she responds, also Soma does the same for Megumi).
Oh plus the cute blushes they do around the other! As well as the warm, shy, small smiles!

Just remembered Souma named his restaurant at the Moon Banquet Festival after Megumi, calling it "Restaurant Tadokoro".
I will never get over them not being cannon.

Soma knows how to braid hair.
His mother sometimes played with his dad's hair and Soma thought it was cool how she could make it look like ropes. His mom taught him until he could make a decent basic braid. It became a forgotten skill until he got to Totsuki because no one around him wore them.
He started to braid hair again because of Megumi. One day, she was extremely nervous to the point where she could not make her hair right and Soma could tell that her braids "looked different" and Megumi told him the reason why. He then reached for them and started to fix them, much to her amazement.
Soma starts touching her hair more often after that. He has a habit of especially doing it on car and airplane rides where he has to sit for long periods of time, experimenting with styles and sizes. He never tangles her hair though. Their friends are still in disbelief that he knows how to do it and how neat the different braids are. Sometimes Megumi even goes to him to fix her hair for events.
