what are your thoughts on the minotaur? was it a "real" thing (assuming Johnny is "real" (on the outermost layer of the narrative)? is it a manifestation of Johnny's dwindling sanity and obsession with the manuscript? why do you think Zampano redacted it? i'm still trying to sort out my own thoughts on it, so i'm curious what you thought of it!

I personally think its trauma, its neglect and abandonment taken form, its why its called the minotaur, if our relationships are like mazes, then its what hurts the people inside them. Miscommunication and trauma rearing its ugly head. The play with minos and the minotaur features this as it is about their broken relationship, minos tries to repair it with his son but its too late, which ties back to Mark Z. Danielewski’s own life of having his father pass at the time and from interviews what I recall is that it was a bit of a strained relationship as his dad didnt support him or his sister in the arts.

the characters are interacting with the trauma in their own ways, Johnny copes by doing drugs and hypersexuality, zampano tries simply erase it as we dont know much at all about him and navidson obsesses over his work to distract himself. When johnny’s reliance on drugs and sex stops working, he has no choice but to confront it, johnny probably lied about the claw marks, and zampano, to begin with. None of its probably real besides Johnny's story as we all create stories to protect ourselves, pelafina hopes that johnny is having lemon meringue pie and hot chocolate and thats what the navidson kids (chad and daisy) have in the navidson record, i think the fact the navidson record has a happily ever after also goes to show its fake.

despite everything that happens the navidson family survives, johnnys family doesnt, the navidson record is how he wished it happened, forces he cant explain in a house thats changed into something cold and alien.

Can you break down the Chenford confession scene? Because all I see is her saying Tim is the most important person in her life? She never mentioned her feelings?

See to me that was a confirmation of her feelings. Let's take a look back:

3x09 she tells Tim she has feelings for him as a prank to prove to him she could do UC.

5x01 she tries to play off their kisses as just biology BUT later she invites him in so even if she didn't have feelings for him he knows she's attracted to him.

Then in 5x08 he straight up asks her if she loves Chris and she says she should but she doesn't... and he tells her she deserves someone who's worth the effort

She had been coasting through her relationship with Chris because it was safe and there was no risk... then she tells Tim if "we do this and it doesn't work out I'll have ruined the most important relationship in my life."

This does 2 things for Tim: tells him she wants to be with him too by saying "if we do this" and tells him that he would be a risk (if this doesn't work out) but would be worth it (her calling him the most important person in her life.)

This is as close to a confession as she's going to give him before they're together and you can see her freak out as Tim processes everything she said and then she starts to backtrack but he doesn't let her get far. Instead he tells her "unless it is" which to me tells Lucy that Tim thinks she's worth the risk (after he practically told her she's the most important person in his life too) then he asks her out and she says yes and they've both agreed that despite the risks, a relationship between the two of them is worth it and if that isn't a roundabout way of confessing their feelings I don't know what is

there's a bunch of stuff that the anime only scratches the surface of; it's crazy how much 98-anime-only's are missing out on

but it's also interesting to see what parts of the anime were actually retained/expanded on in maximum, considering maximum was still being written when the anime aired

this is why the manga is so much better to read after the 98 anime imo; the show is still enjoyable but I imagine it's harder to watch what's essentially a heavy reduction of the original story

and if you've only seen 98 you're probably not going to like stampede, which resembles the darker/more serious tone of maximum (hence why I suggested reboot -> og anime -> manga to newcomers)

ferrus is a very underrated primarch and i get why (he did die super early on. and then not get elaborated upon much. for a good while he was just there to haunt the iron hands + be the guy fulgrim is so awful for killing lbr) but if you dig even a little bit into him he becomes so interesting to me at least

i think warhammer 40k is great for finding little corners of lore that completely change your perception of the entire galaxy and ferrus is a magnet for that, especially bc of his early death bc it makes it so his weirdness died with him, so hes free to be extremely weird and it doesnt visibly matter to current canon. if that makes sense

ferrus also just has like, guy whose wiki is incomplete disease. i genuinely think thats where the him eating sand meme came from

I’m glad to see someone bring up the professors’ journals, because that excerpt confused me. When they wrote about finally managing to bring a Paradox Pokèmon to the present, they finish it off with “I’m so close to making the paradise from the book—a paradise where we three can live together forever”. I thought they meant “humanity, modern day Pokèmon, and Paradox Pokèmon can coexist in the modern world” but then it just? Sounds awkwardly worded if that’s what they were referring to? I would’ve said “a paradise where we can all live together forever”, because the use of “us three” sounds like three individuals rather than three different populations. Which then made me consider if they meant “me, my partner, and our son Arven”, but I’m not sure how that would connect to Paradox Pokèmon being brought back to life/being brought to life early. I feel like we need to be given a little bit more information regarding their motives; we know they wanted to bring about this paradise, but why? Did they believe the world would be better for it? What purpose does this paradise serve? What made this paradise so important that they decided that neglecting Arven was worth doing? Really hoping to learn more about them in the DLC, since we know a new Paradox Pokèmon will be appearing, and that suggests that the time machine will be restarted (I doubt these new Paradox legendary Pokèmon were just wandering around Area Zero without being noticed).

At first that's what I thought too! But then it doesn't sound right? Because if there are three parties involved, we'd assume it to be humanity, the paradox pokemon and the pokemon that were already established. The way they worded it seemed really vague, so it was either that, or they were referring to their family. But the fourth station journal made me think that it was the latter since it says, "I need more people. More time. That man/woman walked out not long after the boy was born .... if only there were two of me", so this is all assumption but from my understanding, the journal in the third research station was when Arven was still in the womb. Now, the other journal in the third station also says, "Our time machine research has yielded a triumph— a Pokemon from the distant past/future" meaning that both professors were working on it together. I think that's where it went south, because the professors had already become too obsessed with making the time machine a reality with the pretense of, "I must do it so that my family and I will live happily together in paradise" so when it worked, the professors must have wanted more or they were busy analyzing the new pokemon, which led to their partner leaving them because it was already a lost cause. I'm assuming after the other parent left, the professor and Arven moved in to the lighthouse. They must have raised Arven with Kuraidon/Miraidon, and when Arven was old enough to join the academy, they went back to Area Zero to complete their dream of making the paradise come true, which was probably the professors' "treasure" in a sense. Anyway, this is all still a conjecture of mine, and of course you're free to put in your opinions together! I'm just trying to make sense with the minimal information they placed into the lore, I hope this answers some of the questions you were wondering about! Honestly we really need more of their backstory, putting two and two together without any other piece of information is just making my brain hurt LMAO, im super excited to see what they have in store for the DLC, especially if the time machine is going to be restarted like you said! I doubt we'll be getting more lore abt that but one can hope </3

while im at it neopronoun opposition is weird to me as a swedish person.. the whole debate is so anglocentric that they assume every language landed on the same solution they did, to reuse a plural pronoun as a gender neutral one and then they think any other solution is absurd or unheard of. what do you mean you just made another pronoun up you cant do that!! etc

coz its like here in the 2014 the swedish academy accepted 3rd person pronoun "hen" (as opposed to hon/han) like officially into our word list after it gained some popularity in the 2010s. like that is a NEOPRONOUN that someone just Came Up With in like the 60s and then people just started using it and now its just a recognized part of our language. sure we could've also reused our plural pronoun "de/dem" as a gender neutral one but we just made up a new one instead. and to like imply that mainstream use of a neopronoun is just UNHEARD OF and that neopronouns is something the mainstream could NEVER GET USED TO EVER!!! is... your perspective is very limited to the english speaking world is all i can say
