When is round 2 of the book club being planned for?
So the original plan was to wait until Overhaul 2.0 started releasing and then we would follow along with that, however! I've had a lot of people say that they were sad that they missed the first bookclub, and with how long Overhaul 2.0 will be (one chapter a week), I think doing an earlier one with the one volume a week format might be best.
I'm thinking two options: 1. We start late May to build up to the Dark Horse deluxe omnibuses hopefully starting to release in September. 2. We start in September to, y'know, start reading along with the omnibus releases (though we'll obviously be reading faster than that--tbh, I could theoretically run a round three leading up to the final volume coming out).
Shit kinda hit the fan in my life over the past few days (so much health garbage, house hunting is hell on planet earth, and my mom's cancer markers just shot back up after a couple years of remission), so I'm leaning toward starting in September. But if anyone else has any thoughts, definitely let me know! I fucking adore Trimax and legitimately would start bookclub the second tomorrow if I thought it was possible or a good idea

By the way, if you're the type to notice art and artists for these classic Marvel comics, I find Steve Ditko was based at conveying emotions, especially through body language, though his figures tend to be a bit sparse or even ugly. Jack Kirby's art is pure action and intensity, but his emotions, however dramatic they are, tend to always degenerate into the same stock poses, and his figures are always hulking and brutal. Don Heck strikes a good balance, where his figures are always pretty, and what he lacks for action, he makes up with in emotions and body language. He's among my fav artists for Ant-Man and Wasp, because those were two characters whose action scenes weren't all that important compared to their daily life scenes.
I've never been able to explicitly compare the artwork, but I have been able to sort of figure out what I like. Mind you, I haven't had too many dealings with all the artists this hyperfixation. Really, so far I've only read stuff by Jack Kirby, Don Heck or Gene Colan (mostly by pure accident so far). Of those three, they're all decent artists. I feel like Don Heck and Gene Colan do a lot more shading and stuff, but I don't know if that's the inkers responsibility or what.
I don't really know how to differentiate between those two jobs, but that's a topic for some other tangent. Anyways, I feel like Jack Kirby is good with most things, but his faces aren't great to me. I feel like a lot of them look a bit ugly if you state at them for too long. Especially when a character is yelling in a close up or something. I think Gene Colan was good with cinematic art, and fancy stuff like that. But I think you're right about Don Heck being pretty good. He's not the most fancy guy (like I don't often see full page panels with him and stuff), but he's pretty good regardless. He's consistent, I guess you might say? Idk. I'm just rambling, I'm sure. But yeah, Don Heck was pretty good. I found some article about him once that said he was always overlooked, and I can see that. Like, his name isn't as famous as some of his contemporaries. But he's still really good.
PS: Oh, and just for my own self satisfaction, I'm going to list the comics I've read so far. Well, not every issue or which collections, but I'll say which characters or groups I've read about so far this hyperfixation. Let's see...
I started by reading like the first 70 Daredevil comics, then I started on some of the early Silver age Ant-Man stories (I couldn't get into the giant man ones). Then I read some Iron Man and Thor stories. Now I'm reading The Avengers, and I'm not sure where to go from here. I think my comics hyperfixations never last because indecision always seizes me on what I'm reading and what I should read next.

hi! i dont think we've posted much since the new year, so heres a brief update
the tl;dr: life started kicking our ass very hard. we unfortunately missed the blogs anniversary in january and are still hoping to do a late celebration once we're back in the swing of things-- maybe in two weekends? we aren't abandoning this blog!!!
the longer explanation is below
the longer version is that we got some very scary news around the holidays that really affected our energy (and its also still somewhat unresolved.... news has yet to arrive if things are continuing to be ok or not), so its been hard to do anything outside of our day job. we also had a separate, unrelated scare a few months ago that's made it hard to be in public spaces every since, even though i really didn't want it to have that effect on me.
work also took a really wild swing at me recently (im okay! just a lot of adjustments) so thats been taking up a lot of my free mental energy too we've mostly been taking time for ourselves, continuing to develop things behind the scenes, and taking breaks to work on other things like one of pieces of art or other story ideas that ive had, including a horror visual novel im really excited for.... but to say the least, this blog is not dead! Just needing time.
i still have wips in progress and im really excited for the next few posts as ive been trying to build up to them!!!
also another birthday passed? thats crazy. we also missed the blogs anniversary, i still wanna do something for that, maybe in like two weeks when theres no more birthdays in our households. I'm thinking "Submit your character to get turned into a skitty / delcatty / almian skitty / almian delcatty" or a design giveaway.
i need to catch up with so many blogs too. thanks for hanging in there with the near-radio silence on my end. i appreciate everyone whos stuck around and i hope you guys enjoy what we have in store!!!

For Director's cut: ⭐ "breakthroughs in breakdowns"
Ooo, this one is quite hard to be honest.
Breakthroughs in breakdowns was originally supposed to be a very, very different fic than what it turned out to be.
I began writing the fic back in September, right after Nordic Tour had ended when a friend of mine said that they had seen what looked extremely similar to JO's then-tourbus at the skywheel the morning after Tavastia and two people sitting in a cart. I toyed with the idea of something sweet, cute and fluffy. Tender kisses on the cheek and holding hands, maybe even some kind of confessions. However, regardless of how hard I tried I just... wasn't happy with what I was writing. I couldn't pinpoint what it was that I was unhappy with, but nothing just felt right. So I abandoned the fic.
When I heard Bluza in Helsinki night one, I felt the ache and yearning in it and after reading the translated lyrics, I knew I had found my muse to rework the fic. I put my hands into the metaphorical clay that was Bluza and molded my interpretation of the head-space of a person who hadn't quite reached the mental space when writing Bluza. Like what was before Bluza, you know? In the lyrics there's quiet and gentle begging and pleading that's put into words so beautifully that the feelings must have been intense. When you're so madly in love with someone that it makes everything blurry and dramatic and you just desperately want to hold onto the person you love, but the circumstances are not in your favor. In my mind's eye, that's what was before Bluza.
In the end, only the hand-holding remained. I stripped all the fluff away and replaced it with angst. Sorry about that.
As a fun fact, originally there was another thousand+ words describing the anxiousness of Bojan, but that felt a little bit too much even for me. I already made the pupperino (Bojan) suffer for the fic so I didn't want to kick someone who was already down.
Breakthroughs in breakdowns isn't a perfect fic by any means. At points it's very much just a stream of consciousness where I tried to channel my inner Bojan to the text and for a while I doubted on even publishing it at all. I'm kind of glad I did though, as it helped me to process Bluza.
Thank you for the ask 🩷

I've been debating what to discuss here for a while and I think I'll talk about one of the aus I should probably start sketching soon because I'll lose track of it when school begins again.
The first big au I have is batfam related, I think I made a post about it some months ago, and the premise is about how the joker is found death one day and the police and the batfam start to investigate about it.
Gotham citizens are fairly happy about jokers demise, but they're worried about who ended with his life, since the joker had not had anyone able to end him before, despite all the terror and misery he constantly put people through.
This leads to a whole debate about what should be done to the person who killed him, and that puts a lot of pressure in the GCPD, who had been investigating the case already, but now needs to get some results soon to keep operating relatively normally.
The batfam on the other hand, is the nuclear pov on this, obvly, and all of them are handling the news a bit differently.
Jason is by fat the most vocal about it, he is very very happy with the development of events at first, but his curiosity for who actually managed to finish his enemy starts to get the best of him, and he slowly starts to question if The batfam, a family of the greatest detectives is actually doing enough to uncover the truth.
On top of that, Bruce starts sulking more and more on the investigation as per usual, and he can't help but go back to his old resentments to the situation of his own death and later resurrection, which starts to wear them both down progressively, making the both of them snap at each other.
Jason ends up being pulled apart from the case because he is starting to take it too personally, and not taking well the situations and clues. So he starts his own investigation.
I can't help but think that there are some joker apologists in Gotham, or outside of it, for whatever reason. so, after the investigation is brought to the public by the media, there's a lot of scrutiny regarding batman and his way of investigating stuff and the public start to speculate about the batfam's involvement in Jokers death.
This prompts the previous apologists to try to uncover the truth, and some videos of the batfam and the jokers old fight are revealed. Jason witnesses the footage of Bruce's fights with the joker just after his death, and he is suddenly confronted by what Bruce tried to tell him back then, about how he did Grieve Jason.
And Jason... Doesn't know how to deal with that, he knew Bruce did Grieve him, but he had always felt that he didn't do it how Jason would have liked him to. He wanted to be avenged, he wanted the joker to die and to not hurt anyone. He wanted Bruce to put Him over his mission. He wanted Batman to make Justice, by killing the joker. And he Knows , he does, that he wasn't entirely wrong, about the joker just. Continuously hurting people but seeing Bruce take actions so brutal and directly makes the prospect real and different from what he expected.
It doesn't feel right, it doesn't feel how he wanted it to feel. And he is suddenly unable to know how to feel about Bruce acting like that because of him. It was just what he wanted, why... Why does it feel like this now? It's just so... Unlike Bruce, the Bruce he learned to accept now, the Bruce he loved since he was a child... And the caring figure he saw is hard to reconcile with the brutal batman he envisions now.
That's when suddenly, a video of Dick killing the joker, before, comes to light, and all the standards that jason had to adapt to himself to be welcome back in to the family seems to shatter before his eyes. Dick, who has always been able to redeem villains, to give second chances, who is know as the most trustworthy person in the cape community, maybe second person, just behind superman... Dick did that because of Tim... But also. Because of the memory of what happened to Jason.
And, Jason
So he goes to talk to the batfam about it. And that's the basic of the au lol
I just want them to actually confront a lot of the stuff they constantly argue about and yeah I'm focusing more on Jason's pov but I think a lot of characters need to discuss Jason's death and how they confronted that reality and the subsequent reveal of Jason's resurrection so YEAAAAH have a half baked au

It’s not much to go off but I’m wondering how you feel about this? twitter dot com /martinluiga/status/1664288105376149504?s=46&t=GBiqosepIlUwin1chhX-zg
Thank you for sending me this tweet! I would have never seen it otherwise.
I completely agree that drawing so much attention to Kurvitz's unprofessionalism takes away from the main point.
However, completely ignoring employees' claims also feels very unfair; since one of the points of contention is unfair dismissal their statements could be used as evidence for workplace misconduct. I even looked up estonian labor law; I believe prior warning is not required if the contract breach is particularly severe, which is what I bet ZA/UM will go for in court with the entire "trying to sell the IP was the last straw" nonsense.
To me, the most frustrating part is the lack of concrete evidence. All we have are press releases, which are very biased and contradictory. And now the PMG video I guess. It's extremely difficult to anticipate a certain outcome based on the information we have now.
The PMG documentary definitely could have been better. The heavy focus on employees' opinions gave us more insight, but it also led to the majority of the video being focused on Kurvitz's behavior. I wish it was made clear that the legal dispute was initially about the share acquisition; unfair dismissal is just a consequence of that and it should be addressed separately.
The interviewer denounced Kurvitz's behavior and made sure to express worker's concerns to him in the interview, but I didn't see the same energy for Kompus and DE's IP being literally stolen from Kurvitz. Sure, they talked about the money and Haavel's involvement, but I'm curious how Kompus would've answered a direct question about taking the IP away from the game's creators. I believe Kurvitz and Rostov are still both minority shareholders, so they might still be able to block the decision to sell Elysium, but it doesn't grant them the right to use the IP since it technically belongs to a subsidiary of ZA/UM UK.
Idk if I'm reading too much into this, but I'm unhappy with the conclusion of the documentary. The wording comes off as quite one-sided: "the potential conspiracy", "if anything illegal has happened" is not really on the same plane with "this email is outrageous, I don't like where it's coming from", "Robert has entirely dismissed any criticism". I'm guessing the intent was to showcase both sides, but the conclusion definitely draws attention to Kurvitz's workplace misconduct. In my opinion, the email is unpleasantly vague, but the interviewer also gives it the most uncharitable interpretation. Mind you, he is completely correct in criticizing Kurvitz's behavior, but the video treats the dismissal and the share acquisition as the same issue, so denouncing Kurvitz here might make it seem like he can be blamed for the entire conflict.
This situation is a prime example of "stuck between a rock and a hard place", but what I'm trying to say is: I believe Kurvitz is still in the right when it comes to the ownership of DE and it's unfair to only support him under the assumption he's a perfect human being, who's never done anything wrong in his life.
I really hope the morality question won't interfere with the legality question. These two cases are not even about the same thing, and while workplace misconduct is clearly wrong, in this circumstance it's used to divert attention and make it seem like Kurvitz deserves to lose the rights to the game, since his employment at ZA/UM is directly tied to his access to Elysium's IP. If you ask me, being rude and not doing your job is not really comparable to laundering millions of euros, fraudulent share acquisition and ousting of employees while taking advantage of their creation.

Don't we already have information on Remuria? At least in books then there's the weapon mats and artifact descriptions.
we do yes! i'm not trying to say that we don't. but having that information in text is different compared to actually being in that location & getting that source of information from ' ground zero. '
remuria is just a really big deal to fontaine because it was its most recent ancient civilization after thousands of years of not having any. the last known civilization in fontaine traces back thousands & thousands of years ago ( even more ancient than remuria ) & they were punished by celestia for coveting what the heavens had & for trying to defy their fates by flooding them completely. remuria suffered the same fate alongside the god king remus because remus gave humans powers that should only be reserved for gods & under celestia's rule we know that they would not be okay with that at all ( he doomed remuria himself that's a whole other dive i'll summarize with that ).
after their downfall, egeria was properly appointed the hydro archon & she helped quell ( attempted to ) any conflicts & bad faith between those who ended up surviving & those who opposed remus during his descend into madness.
stuff like this we know because of what we have now, but something furina's signature weapon has showed me is that there's an unreliable narrator in play somewhere. her signature weapon has two descriptions to it, one under the unreliable narrator lens & another one isn't. that planted a little seed inside my head wondering if some of that element is also plaguing remuria somewhere.
not only that but we may learn more of just why jakob ( from the ordo quest ) turned out how he turned out since rene hypothesized that the answer to that lies in the golden troupe.
what i'm trying to say is that the area has the huge potential of tying loose ends that were left open & expanding further on the lore that may just apply to fontaine but if remuria has its own map like enkanomiya does then chances are remuria has a high chance of giving us more lore & information that'll apply to the whole of genshin in general just like enkanomiya gave us the equivalent to the bible ( before sun & moon ).

hi (: i don't know if anyone has asked before but how long does it take you to make a gif/gifset?
hiii! i love getting questions about my giffing process
and it really depends on the set, if it's just simple gifs that don’t need additional editing (like this one) then it takes about 15 min. and most of that time goes into finding the right coloring.
if it's a set like my last one, it took me about 1.5 hours, sounds like a lot, but i spent a lot of time selecting the clips i wanted to use, then making the gifs was also a struggle because in most of them i included different scenes in one single gif, so i had to resize each of them and then blend them together (that plus the text + coloring + sharpening)
and i think the ones that take the most time are sets like this one and this one, for those i need not only enough time to make them, but also come up with the idea and see if it actually looks good. those can take several hours.

i know that i am far from the first person to say it, but i really am disappointed thinking abt the wasted potential in nora’s story arc in volume 8.
[more under the cut, but disclaimer, i am mostly rambling]
like, before vol. 8, i didn’t really care much for nora either way. i thought renora was fine & a good background ship, and sometimes nora got a laugh out of me, other times i thought she was annoying, but in general i just was pretty ambivalent abt her and wished she got some more character development which she never seemed to (besides for a little bit in vol. 4, though that was more of ren’s arc than hers, but still i will take what i can get. it’s probably my favorite part of vol. 4 considering mostly i find 4 & 5 to be very boring)
then in vol. 8 they sort of tried to give her her own character arc! i thought it was sort of weird timing & kind of sudden but hey! i’ll take what i can get. and it was also a sign of the writers trying their best & remedying some past mistakes (they did this with cinder, too, trying to fill in the blanks by giving a character arc now - no matter what i feel abt these characters, i do appreciate this. better late than never, right?)
but like a lot of other aspects of rwby, nora’s story arc suffered from bad writing and lack of direction. it could’ve been much better thought out. it started out strong, with nora’s feelings of not knowing who she was and her worth when she is not with ren - which makes sense, considering those two characters have been joined at the hip & a package deal since vol. 1, but with the circumstances of the plot in vol. 8, they finally separated. even the fact that she talked abt these feelings with weiss and blake was really good in my opinion, because in some way it showed that she was close enough with these other teammates of hers that she could talk abt these feelings.
then she goes maximum  because she thinks what she is good at is “be strong & hit stuff”. i have mixed feelings on this because while i do think that this was a cool scene and was very crucial to this character arc, we have never seen nora having a limit on her powers before (or at least i don’t think we have?) considering she has been hit by lightning multiple times & also lightning shots from dust, but considering vol. 8 tried to mess with multiple characters’ semblances i was willing to put up with it.
the real pinnacle moment of her arc was, while injured and recovering, penny is getting taken over by watson’s interference, and nora is able to comfort penny and help her with the “it’s just a part of you- don’t forget about the rest” moment. that was probably my favorite moment of all of vol. 8. it was really meaningful and emotional in a way that i don’t think the rest of the volume managed to successfully do and the framing of the scene was fantastic. it showed a new side of nora, where she is using her own struggles to empathize and help her teammate and friend. really great stuff.
from then on the arc kind of... fizzles out?
my least favorite aspect of nora’s arc is the fact that they use her getting injured as a reason why ruby’s team doesn’t really do anything else until after they are reunited with yang’s team.
they try to conclude it with her and ren’s reconciliation and her going “i need time on my own to figure out who i am without you” kind of thing. but then they don’t take the excellent opportunity for her to be someone who falls at the end of vol. 8? instead, she and ren are one of the very few characters that make it to vacuo! if she had fell instead of jaune (or they both could’ve fallen) you really could’ve had her go on more of a journey of self-discovery without ren by her side. OR! ren could’ve fallen and nora could’ve made it to vacuo. she wanted time by herself to figure herself out, but how would she react to knowing that she will only ever be by herself now that (she thinks) ren is dead? it could’ve been some compelling stuff!
the biggest waste of potential is the fact that nothing comes of her interaction with penny. for such a pivotal moment in her arc, nora and penny really don’t have a meaningful connection for the rest of the volume?
penny’s death was already a really badly written moment meant more for shock value. in my opinion, her dying and making winter the new winter maiden was a big waste of future story potential and made the fact that penny even came back at the beginning of vol. 7 a real waste of time (if penny hadn’t been brought back in the first place we would basically be at the same place we are in now. penny would be dead & winter would’ve been the winter maiden. nothing really changed much abt winter to warrant her getting the maiden power now instead of earlier. she would’ve just had a change of heart and left ironwood to join the main cast as the winter maiden at the same time as the heroes left ironwood instead of afterwards.) it would’ve been so much more meaningful if, after her interaction with nora, penny decided to make nora the winter maiden. it would’ve been a change of pace and actually made her character arc MEANT something. her feelings, her development, and her interactions with penny would have been significant and meaningful, instead of just one nice scene that wasn’t really addressed again and becoming a waste of potential.
it would’ve also made penny coming back in the first place only to die later mean something to, because nora definitely never would’ve become the winter maiden without it.
overall, nora’s arc in vol. 8 really just felt like a vague attempt at writing something for nora without actually changing anything. it felt like busywork, something for her to do without much real thought behind it. i do not have much high hopes for them continuing her arc next volume, especially considering the arc they already gave her. i hope i am wrong, i hope that what they did in vol. 8 with nora has some actual consequence (either good or bad) but genuinely i feel like they only gave nora an arc because they realized she hadn’t done anything interesting in a while and threw something in there for her. like a lot of rwby, it suffers from the rushed writing. if they had more time to write and develop the script more, they might have realized how meaningless nora’s interactions with ren and penny were this volume because of how she basically ends in the same place she started, and might have done something abt it. i’m hopeful that since they aren’t putting vol. 9 out after only a single year like they did with the rest of the volumes, there will be better writing, but i’m not too hopeful considering all the other projects crwby is working on at the same time as vol. 9.

so in tps all of the female characters that live in the Painted Lady are based on the Nine Greek Muses, with the Muse they're based on either influencing their hobbies or special abilities so the rundown is
Marlene & Clio, the Muse of History: Marlene's a history teacher and she uses psychometry, so if she touches something she can see the history of it, who's touched it, where it's from, etc
Rhiannon & Melpomene, the Muse of Tragedy: Rhiannon has dreams that foretell people's deaths, including her own family members
Florence & Terpsichore, the Muse of Dance: before moving back to upstate NY, she was a professional dancer and stage actress
Cordelia & Thalia, the Muse of Comedy: Cordelia's very much the comedian in the family, contrasting the fact she's also one of the most responsible in the family, always cracking jokes with an infectious laugh
Lorelai & Erato, the Muse of Love Poetry: Lorelai's whole character is all about love, she's a very classic everything pink and heart-shaped person who loves love and everything about romance, while being aromantic herself
Elysia & Polyhymnia, the Muse of Sacred Poetry: Elysia's connection to the Muse she's based on is much more loose tbh, she's more spiritual than overtly religious which is influenced by her being both Jewish and Diné
Sabine & Urania, the Muse of Astronomy: Sabine is very heavily influenced by her Muse, everything she's into is related to astronomy and by extension astrology, she uses star charts for divination and writes Zodiac columns for the local newspaper
Laila & Euterpe, the Muse of Lyrical Poetry: Laila is very musical herself, either always listening to music or playing it or singing or drumming her fingers, music is her biggest stim and she's never content without it
Billie & Calliope, the Muse of Epic Poetry: Billie is very fascinated by history, especially the history of ancient wars which crosses over into her collecting weapons, mostly knives and swords
Send 👀 and I'll tell you some OC Lore

while im at it neopronoun opposition is weird to me as a swedish person.. the whole debate is so anglocentric that they assume every language landed on the same solution they did, to reuse a plural pronoun as a gender neutral one and then they think any other solution is absurd or unheard of. what do you mean you just made another pronoun up you cant do that!! etc
coz its like here in the 2014 the swedish academy accepted 3rd person pronoun "hen" (as opposed to hon/han) like officially into our word list after it gained some popularity in the 2010s. like that is a NEOPRONOUN that someone just Came Up With in like the 60s and then people just started using it and now its just a recognized part of our language. sure we could've also reused our plural pronoun "de/dem" as a gender neutral one but we just made up a new one instead. and to like imply that mainstream use of a neopronoun is just UNHEARD OF and that neopronouns is something the mainstream could NEVER GET USED TO EVER!!! is... your perspective is very limited to the english speaking world is all i can say
