He was off limits.

From the moment you knew your best friend, Haewon, had a crush on him, he was not supposed to ever be in your radar of romantic boundaries as per the rules of being a best friend. 

Seeing her going crazy for a boy like him at first really made you question if there was something wrong with you because you just couldn’t quite see it.

Sure he was literally the definition of tall, blonde and gorgeous. Sure he had adorable dimples that made him look less intimidating than you thought he initially was. Sure he was also the frat president as well as the captain of the soccer team making you wonder how he was able to still balance getting great grades.

Well. There was a slight possibility you could see what others saw. 

Maybe even more when the time you tried to play wingman for Haewon at a party where you lost her because apparently she was looking for him but said guy turned up right beside you as you were contemplating on what would least likely not kill your liver if you had it resulting in having conversations about cherries ( you don’t even know ) and him trying to convince (gaslight) you into soccer being one of the greatest games of all time. 

You didn’t get convinced but for the time it felt right to agree to what he said if it meant those adorable dimples would show up when you did. 

You were so screwed. 

Another thing Choi Seungcheol had was a great memory, because he seemed to remember you when he saw you walking down the hallway with Haewon as he smiled so widely at you in greeting. 

“Haha yeah hey! um…This is Haewon by the way! Haewon, Seungcheol.” You had to nudge her to snap out of her daze and she extended her hand in greeting as he politely shook her hand. 

“That reminds me, I forgot to ask you last night but uh can I have your-”

“Oh would you look at that! We’re getting late for class! I’m so sorry Seungcheol, we’ll have to leave!” 

That moment you think you were so going to hell when you saw how quickly his smile fell and how his sparkly eyes dimmed down because it felt like you committed a sin then and there. You think you saved yourself from committing a sin but it didn’t feel less dreadful as you grabbed her hand and rushed as quickly as you could.

In the opposite direction of where your class was.

“WHAT WAS THAT-”

“Listen- when you were looking for him last night- I swear I don’t know how but he was right where I ended up sitting and he-well, we talked I suppose-?”

Her eyes widened at your words and you raised your hands in surrender, 

“I promise I didn’t even know when he showed up, I tried to message you and even find you but you seemed gone until the moment we were leaving.”

“Plus the reason I didn’t tell you last night was I was tired! I was here trying to play wingman while the person in love was seemingly gone-”

She sighed and nodded at you, “You don’t have to explain, I know he’s not your type, you made that clear a lot of times actually it’s kinda hilarious.” She giggled as she recalled the countless times you chastised her for daydreaming about him. But now, you couldn’t stop the stupid tinge of bitterness in your heart.

Right. Not my type. 

Suddenly her eyes widened as an idea struck her, “That’s it! He was gonna ask for your number right? You can try and set me up then!”

“I well- I don’t know-”

“Please! You know how I have been trying to get to know him even.”

You didn’t want to say it then but you thought about how trying meant actually doing something rather than just gazing from afar. At least become friends with him was the words you told her countless times but she paid no heed, retorting how it was not that easy.

But it was easy because what’s the worst that could happen? Him having a partner? So it wasn’t the end of the world, others existed! 

Too bad you were easy to persuade, questionably easy because all it took were her doe eyes pleading at you to agree.

“Fine- I’ll try- but no promises.”

As she hugged you and squealed words of gratefulness to you, you couldn’t quite put a finger on it then but, 

You didn’t understand why it felt a part of you couldn’t seem to share the same happiness, conceivably a lingering dread there that knew something was surely going to go wrong.

✮⋆˙ | wonwoo.

Everytime Jeon Wonwoo had the ever so unfortunate ( according to him ) time to exist in the same room as you, it seemed like an impending doom for him. 

His heart felt weird, his stomach dropped, his throat parched.

He hated it. 

He was an individual who knew what they wanted in life. Never unsure nor second guessing, always able to classify their emotions in proper ways. Systematic is the right word. Able to know what exactly he wants to do in his career, how to behave with his friends, when to be serious and when to have ‘fun’. 

So what happens when you completely throw him off the rocks with your mere existence?

He hates you. That’s how he tags the emotions he feels when he sees you and what does hatred sprout? Indifference. 

Too many questions asked but it’s what Wonwoo declares. 

Though, he thinks the first mistake is to think he’d be able to avoid you considering the fact that you were his best friend/roommate’s good friend. Meaning you spent around twenty to twenty two hours at their place (Yes he counted) and he absolutely hated it.

He hated how your giggles would ring out in the entire apartment when Mingyu said a half-assed joke, it literally made his chest feel uneasy. He hated how your eyes would always twinkle when you would be talking to Mingyu, it made his stomach drop and sigh in disbelief. 

Was Mingyu that oblivious to how much you liked him?

Now this was a question that made Wonwoo almost throw up. Odd.

“You know if you don’t make a move, he won’t even know right? I know you think he’s one of the smartest but in the romance field, I think even fucking Jihoon beats him at that.” 

Or perhaps Wonwoo was just very oblivious to how much you liked him. 

You shook your head at Mingyu’s words as you both walked up to his apartment, the butterflies in your stomach already churning at the thought that Wonwoo was likely home. 

“And also it’s getting concerning how much time you spend in my apartment for the sake of him, like at this point just move in you creep—HEY!Ow!— that hurt you ass!”

“It’s not that easy,Gyu,he’s – he’s Wonwoo for God’s sake!”

“That’s exactly why it’s easy! It’s Wonwoo! Be direct with him. I’ve known him for years and trust me, he won’t know until you spit it out to him!”

Maybe…maybe he was right. Afterall he had been friends with Wonwoo before even knowing you.

“What if he doesn’t even feel the same–”

“Be serious. He literally looks like a lovesick fool when you’re over–”

“Maybe he’s just sick of me coming over.”

Mingyu stopped walking and you didn’t even realize until you were a few steps ahead. Pausing when you finally saw he wasn’t beside you.

His expression was like he was close to ripping out his hair from frustration while also being flabbergasted. It was kinda hilarious and you had to gulp to prevent laughing because you were sure he might just kill you.

“Okay! Okay, fine– I'll listen to you– maybe not confess today! But I'll ask if we can hangout or something,happy?”

“Very.” 

You rolled your eyes at his words as you both began climbing up the stairs, telling him to shush with his teasing as the tips of your ears began to feel warm and the blood rushed to your cheeks with every scenario you imagined.

Maybe if you thought that the upcoming scenario would ever occur. it would have hurt less. 

As you waited for Mingyu to pull out his keys, you could feel your nerves igniting through your skin and your stomach churning. But before Mingyu could insert the key, the door opened.

You wouldn’t have questioned anything, if it weren’t for the obvious messy hair, hickey marks trailing down her exposed neck and of course, the star of your daydreams right behind her, standing with a surprised face.

It was obvious what had occurred, the confirmation lying in the bruises on his neck. 

“Woah–uh.” Mingyu stuttered awkwardly, and you could feel his sympathy as he glanced at you. You couldn’t think of anything else other than how…right you were and how wrong Mingyu was.

You didn’t know who she was but it wasn’t her fault. Or anyone’s. Maybe yours. So as a weird tension simmered through the air, you looked away from them and just turned to Mingyu. 

And for the first time in his life probably, he was lost. Jeon Wonwoo was lost because why did he just feel like he committed a crime when he wasn’t even yours anyways?

He hated the way you looked away, not missing the hurt that flashed across your eyes as you realized what he probably was doing. 

You didn’t even notice she’d already left, smiling at Wonwoo and signing him to call her back, again. Probably not the first time, you thought.

“Uh-Gyu- I’ll go now, It’s getting late for me anyways,”

You really tried to stop your voice from cracking, the lump in your throat making you want to choke and die then and there. So you just looked at Mingyu, purposefully ignoring the way he looked at you in sympathy. 

His stare seemed to burn into your side profile. The words on the tip of his tongue, but what? It all felt like a lot but nothing at the same time. Wonwoo didn’t know what to say. 

Nodding goodbye to Mingyu and glancing at Wonwoo, offering a tight lipped smile as you waved, and then without saying anything you turned around. 

Mingyu frowned. His best friend couldn’t own up to his feelings for you and just when you were about to take a step forward, he somehow ended up fucking it up completely. 

What a mess. 

“Come on, we need to talk.”

Mingyu said seriously, putting an arm over Wonwoo’s shoulders, albeit a little forcefully which caused the other boy to almost stumble over. 

It seemed it was now up to him now to sort out this mess and hopefully it doesn’t get worse from here.

Being the new captain of the basketball team had its perks. Sure, you now officially got tagged as a ‘jock’, a title in itself that held its own benefits, probably more than just when you were another player in the team. 

But its disadvantages seemed more at the moment when you found yourself under the angered gaze of none other than Yoon Jiwoo. Another player of the basketball team. Shooting guard was the position.

By all means, it wasn’t your fault she was not captain, it was her own actions that did not get her the position. And plus, it wasn’t like it was bad not being a captain, Yeri was a small forward, yet probably the best one at it. So it was at the end of the day, nothing to you but just more responsibilities with the title. 

Plus, it was also voted by the rest of the players that you deserved to be captain this time when it was time to appoint a new captain. Jiwoo had been a captain before Lisa became that year, but she left and so there had to be a new choice made. 

With Jiwoo’s unfair hatred towards you, also came a similar animosity from her group of friends. Well you think Jiwoo wants them to share the same feelings as she does but you doubt they care enough, usually neutral towards you or sympathetic even as they tried to reason her animosity being useless.

They were five or six if you could remember correctly from the times they’d drop her to practice or come to pick her up sometimes. Apparently one of them was her cousin Yoon Jeonghan and you could surely see the similarities in them from the way unrealistically attractive they both looked. 

But the one that stuck out most to you was Kim Mingyu. Her best friend. And the one who supposedly hated you the most, after her that is.

Then why did he feel anything but hate? He couldn’t stop looking at you during your practice when he stuck around to wait for Jiwoo, as if in a trance as his gaze remained on you.

He couldn’t stop the way his heart sped up when you grinned so widely as you scored, tackling your teammate in a hug. Why was he suddenly envious of the people who got to experience your joy? 

In his defense, he liked you way before you were even captain. It was probably since the day he first saw you try for the teams and he thinks it was fate that he got to stumble onto you that one sunny afternoon. 

You were nervous for your trials and he was nervous from the way your hair prettily rested on your cheeks and made you almost glow in the sun. Yeah, he was convinced it was love at first sight.

Though he feels liking his best friend’s rival was…confusing. He didn’t know if he could take a side or if he should even question taking a side. 

“You pushed them on purpose Jiwoo!” Yeri yelled at her as she held you upright. You couldn’t even make out some of the words as you focused on the pain shooting up your ankle from the way it twisted. 

“We all saw it, stop acting like you did nothing!”

“Exactly, you have this weird hate boner for them since you couldn’t get your stupid captain title!” 

You were sure the first voice was Chaewon while the other was Yeri.

“Why are you all ganging up on me? It wasn’t on purpose! Ask-ask someone else as well!” Her voice got louder and louder as she finished her sentence. She didn’t expect people to take your side. Although her plan was just a little shove to keep you off balance as she got the ball in her hand, she did not expect you to twist your ankle completely. 

“It’s fine- just- just leave it. It was a mistake, I just-” Your words were cut off as you hissed out in pain again as you attempted to get up, only to tumble down again, luckily held up by Yeri and Chaewon.

They sat you down on the bench as they huddled around you in a panic. You pulled off your shoes, scrunching your nose from the smell but the pain quickly took your focus from that.

 “Hey! What’s going on?” You heard someone say as they entered, their voice familiar to you. Mingyu had come to pick up Jiwoo as usual, not knowing she left sneakily when they were focused on you, when he saw everyone huddled together, confused when he couldn’t see you amongst the first few he saw. 

He didn’t need to peek over due to his well…giant form, but he saw you sat down in the middle as he got closer, caressing your leg. His eyes widened when he saw your ankle swollen up and an angry red shade that was definitely not natural.

“Shit that looks bad.” You looked up and you swore you thought you were hallucinating. Because no way was Kim Mingyu out of everyone looking at you with nothing but worry and concern. He still looked…good. As always. Per usual. You think you got distracted from your pain for just a minute as you stared at him for a few seconds, him seemingly not noticing as he kept his eyes on your ankle.

“Blame your girlfriend.” Yeri scowled as she spitefully retorted, as Chaewon dug her elbow into her side to which she yelped and glared at her. 

“Girlfriend?” He turned his attention towards her, resembling a confused puppy as he raised an eyebrow in confusion.

“Yeri.” You spoke up firmly before she could say anything, looking at her with a look that told her to keep her mouth shut,not wanting to make this a bigger scene than it already was. She sighed and rolled her eyes, ultimately not saying anything.

You moved your leg around for a bit, deciding you should give it a go again to stand up, and drag yourself to the infirmary. And when you did stand up, it seemed you really overestimated yourself or perhaps underestimated your injury because next thing you knew you lost balance again.

But lucky for you, instead of landing right on the wooden floors and having a blistered lip, you landed right on Kim Mingyu. It only occurred to you now just how much taller than you he was when his whole form almost engulfed you.

“Woah. Take it easy, you’ll get hurt more.” He had wrapped one hand on your waist while the other held your arm. You think his touch burnt you more than anything because you felt yourself begin to warm up. 

“How about I take you to the infirmary? Sorry I didn’t say it sooner, I was just confused on what Yeri said and-”

“It’s-uh-it’s fine- I’ll go by myself-”

“Are you crazy?! You can’t even stand!”

You blinked, taken aback by his words, even more so with just how concerned he seemed,his eyes glistening with it. 

Kim Mingyu was someone you thought you knew but apparently you did not because a few minutes later, you found yourself being piggy-backed by him to the infirmary as he was scolding you about taking better care of yourself. 

You tried to reason that Yeri and Chaewon would take you but they both were adamant on Mingyu taking you, while they would go and look for a certain someone ( You prayed they would not be kicked out of the team).

His grip on your thighs, his shampoo that you could smell, his shoulders that were just so…so broad you couldn’t even fully wrap your arms around them…just him felt so overwhelming. Your pain was long forgotten as you tried not to freak out over how you were currently feeling over him.

But with the way he seemed, the way he acted, was it wrong to assume that perhaps, there was a possibility these feelings weren’t so one-sided?

Well, only one way to find out.

They say people shine their best when they are in their element doing what they love. But to you, Chwe Vernon shone even in the dimmest lights as he sat down in front of you.

It was just a few minutes before their gig. Him and his friends ; Jungkook, Mingyu and Eunwoo from what you remember, were all a part of an upcoming rock band. They were actually gaining more fame as time passed and you were proud to be one of the few who witnessed their growth from the beginning. 

They began from your small bar right in the downtown area where you worked as a bartender, you remembered their first performance, you were told it was their first gig actually. Now they are close to being signed up by a company, still wanting to perform one last time at the place where it all began. 

To you, he was the boy you’d always admire from afar, knowing there was no actual probability of him seeing you in that light. Even now, considering their gaining fame, you’d see the type of people that would swoon over him, even a few celebrities and models you remember. 

He was…a star. Far away and admirable but never in your reach. And stars are better to admire than seek anyways.

Though, it seemed your star wasn’t that far away from you as you thought. In fact he was much closer to you than you could even comprehend. 

In other words, Chwe Vernon was head over heels from you. Since the first time he performed and spotted you when you were busy serving drinks, since the time you told him how great they performed as he sat down in front of you while you talked about what interested you, your eyes gleaming under the dim bar light. And he thinks it was very much obvious what felt when he saw your wide grin, dimples poking out as you finally served him his drink. 

Whisky wasn’t something he liked, but you had recommended a certain combination with it and he thinks nothing else tasted sweeter that day. 

Sadly everyone around you but you saw that. Too focused on how you weren’t ever going to be a possibility because you thought he was just unattainable instead of thinking of the probability of just how much he may have liked you. 

“Nervous?” You smiled at him as you finished setting up the remaining glasses for the night, ready to serve knowing it would be a very busier night than usual due to them performing. 

Yes, yes he was nervous but not because of performing but because he was about to confess. 

“Haha- yeah- no! I mean uhm no- we’re- we’ll be fine.” He wanted to cuss at himself for stuttering, probably looking foolish, but he thought it was fine when he heard your giggle as you shook your head. 

“Oh you are. You’re already the best and I assume and hope it’ll only get better from now on.”

With you. It would get better with you because anything feels better with you. 

He wishes he could say it out loud, but maybe soon enough. That is if you don’t reject him. Yeah he doesn’t know what he’ll do if you do. Throw up probably. Or die. Dying seems good actually, he thinks. 

“Vernon? Here.” He snapped out of his thoughts as he blinked, looking down at the drink in front of him, confused because he didn’t order anything.

“On the house, from me. It’s my favorite drink actually. I-uh hope you like it.” He thinks even if you served him garbage he’d still be delighted, extreme but meh it was close to how he fell for you. Extreme and down bad.

“Oh then I’ll love it for sure.” Because I love you. 

Your grin grew wider as you were about to say something, you heard your name being called by your co-worker.

“Oh- I’m sorry I have to go now! I’ll be here when you perform for sure! Good luck!” 

“It’s okay, you’ll be here afterward.” 

You looked at him apologetically as he shook his head, knowing you were just doing your job and nodding to you to go, to which you waved goodbye at him. 

Perhaps you really underestimated your own words because apparently you couldn’t make it there. You were called by your mother who had gotten sick at home and needed someone to take care of her. 

You thought about whether you should inform Vernon but figured it wouldn’t be too much of a big deal, telling your co-worker to let him know in case he asked afterwards but you doubt he would, probably exhausted after the long night. You forgot your co-worker was switching shifts mid-way with another one, one who would obviously not know your whereabouts. 

And now as he got ready to sing the song he’d written for you, for you with very obvious lyrics about you, the moments with you, he searched for you but…you were nowhere. 

You weren’t there. 

Did you find out? Did you know? Did you think it was too much? 

All the questions arose in his mind as he shut his eyes and breathed in to calm himself. He couldn’t lose his cool on stage when there were so many fans waiting for him to perform.

He looked at his bandmates, and shook his head, not wanting to look at them again as they looked at him sympathetically.

“That’s it for tonight! We hope you continue supporting us in the future! Have a goodnight Seoul!” 

He said and this time as he felt anything but content, his heart heavier than ever and mind in a haze. 

Maybe in this lifetime, you’d both remain two separate stars. Far and never-crossing.

hi ^^ If requests are still open, can I req jax x reader headcanons where reader seems like the most chill, mentally stable, and normal person as well as a bit oblivious out of the whole group but when jax tries pranking them by scaring them w creepy crawlies and insects or other things normally considered scary, reader becomes really happy and endeared by it instead? And starts trying to like befriend him because of it.

And then its revealed reader has the most questionable interests of which they have the most unusually large amount of detailed knowledge on, like say poison, reptiles, the horrific horrors at the bottom of the ocean (think subnautica) And whenever these interests are brought up (which is rare bcs if what they are) they go full infodump mode and have 100% accidentally scared someone with it. They have definitely scared Ragatha half to death at least once after hearing the word “centepede” and going on a rant abt giant centipedes oblivious to her fear.

qeue Jax asking the reader abt one of said interests for a prank and reader gives him way to much info on it, not because they want to help him prank someone, but because they think hes just genuinely interested in their interest and have no idea he wants to use it to prank someone.

i mean sure, maybe you just weren't afraid of bugs like a certain red head, but you were excited to find it; scooping it up into your hands without hesitation... i mean he wasnt exactly judging you, but he sure as hell was confused. and now stumped, now that he knows the fake bug prank wont phase you

on top of that he now has a new friend following him around

i think it would definitely take him a second to warm up to you, his pride is a little hurt that his little stunt failed, but before long you guys are on speaking terms

your interest in poison doesnt really come up until someone brings up the topic, prompting you to go on a tangent about all the different kinds, the effects, the sources, how to counter it if possible, things like that

how funny would it be if jax was actually scared of reptiles; specifically snakes or even lizards, and he finds you trying to catch a gecko outside in the grounds

you excitedly try to hand it off to him and begin listing off some facts about the real world counterpart, only to stop when you notice his discomfort

like imagine trying to help him get over this random fear of his, and eventually managing to ease him into holding the little thing

hes fine with centipedes but he draws the line at noodle boys

perhaps the extra time with you and listening to you rattle off about your interests sparks some interest in you? of course if you want this to remain platonic you can ignore this part!

this of course leads to him trying to spend more time with you

to be more specific, to try to rope you into his antics

so he tries to ask you about something, say, bugs... you, of course not knowing what his plans are, go off about a bunch of bugs; insects, spiders, hell you even add in some scorpions

he stops you midway when you segway over to bug-parasites, though

while some of it isnt really his thing, hes at least not a big enough asshole to ignore the look in your eyes you get when you finally get to talk about your interests and not be judged

Which sends you straight onto the floor beside your trolley

Will, aside from being a little alarmed at the fact you bumped into him and fell down, is completely smitten by you. The way your facial features perfectly complimented you and matched your voice and attitude, both angelic, soft, and confident. Your gentle laugh almost had him lost in a trance as you apologised profusely, lifting yourself from the floor and explaining you were trying to find the free range eggs, then asking if he had seen any, then babbling about how you’ll only eat specific ones but you’ve always wanted to try something new and-

After a few weeks it becomes apparent you aren’t picking up on their very obvious hints at all

The final straw for Will was when he noticed another man approaching you on your way back home one night, obviously with ill intentions, yet you let him, a stranger, walk beside you and talk to you

To Will, the fact someone would dare attempt to steal you from him and Hannibal angered him greatly. They had to be dealt with.

So, he waits until you’re inside your home, away from the ghastly act hes about to commit, and he swiftly snuffs the strangers life out like a match after dragging him into an alleyway

Will knows he can’t take you and cover up the murder alone, so he calls Hannibal to help him take you and hide away the murder he just committed.

Hannibal is less than pleased to hear and see what Will has just done.

Hannibal obviously would’ve preferred courting you normally, your obliviousness would’ve made it much easier to manipulate you. But, alas, thanks to Will it was now too late for that.

Taking you wasn’t easy, but keeping you in the house was. Your ditziness and obliviousness made it easy to have you believe there was no chance in escaping.

Hannibal is much more distant when you first begin living with them, cooking the meals and offering you a hand on the back every now and again so you know he supports you and wouldn’t hurt you, but ultimately keeping his distance in order not to scare you off

Will, however, is much more clingy, apologising to you for what he did and explaining how much he likes and would never hurt you, kissing your hands and telling you everything will be okay

They both let you have freedom around the house since they both believe you won’t manage to escape them.

Wouldn't care in the slightest. Would honestly keep it there for as long as possible but you scold him into cleaning up. You usually have to force him into showers anyways so it's nothing new. It's four in the morning and all you want is a good cup of tea and to lie down, but when does anything ever go the way you want it to?

As you sit on one of the kitchen chairs, Lockwood is fumbling around, trying to patch up a gash on your forehead after a scuffle with the ghost you had a case for tonight. You feel like a child. Even more so because he's telling you off.

If you're being honest, you've not been listening to most of what he's been saying, partly because of exhaustion and pain, partly because he's been pattering on for so long that, quite frankly, you've lost interest.

"Are you even listening to me?"

You flinch as Lockwood slathers antiseptic cream on the cut. "Honest answer?"

"Preferably."

"Then no. What were you saying?"

The look he gives you holds no humour. No, this is the look Anthony Lockwood gives when he's tired and irritated and unable to keep up the farce of a charming, unbothered business owner. It doesn't hold much sway over you, and it never has, truthfully, but you can empathise with him. Solely because he often acts the same way you're acting now.

"You can't keep doing this," he says. His eyes are fixed on the plaster he slowly places on your forehead. "You're throwing yourself into harm's way with no good cause."

"No good cause? I think making sure you and George stay alive is an exceptional cause."

"This isn't a joke, (name). This is your life."

The words irk you a little. "I could say the same to you."

Lockwood's hands drop from your head, and he looks at you straight-on now. His eyes, usually filled with curiosity and soft happiness, swirl with something else. Frustration.

"What do you mean by that?"

"You're always so snippy with me after cases," you say, trying to keep the edge out of your voice, "when all I'm doing is keeping you and George safe. I mean, tonight, you were both ghost-locked when I found you! But you're no different. If anything, you're worse than me. You've thrown yourself out of windows before. Shit, you've locked me in a room to fight a ghost yourself while I tried to find a source!"

He starts packing away the first aid kit, tearing his eyes away from yours, and you know you've made a good point. He never looks at you when he knows you're right.

"Lockwood, this company can't survive without you, we can't survive without you. My risks are thought through, and I'm not doing anything that should really cost me my life. You on the other hand..."

He glances at you, a muscle twitching in his cheek. "Me?"

You sigh, willing him silently to just look at you. "You'd give your life in a second. Which, believe me, I am eternally appreciative of, but it's rarely ever necessary, if ever. I've half a mind to think you're doing it to just... you know. Finish things. I'm - we're concerned about you."

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"Oh, you absolutely do. You are such a hypocrite!"

"Me?" The look he gives you is scathing, so unlike any way he's looked at you before. "That's rich. Who was it that jumped from a balcony to stop of ghost? Who put themself right in the path of a ghost launching itself for someone? It was you!"

The anger that grips you is almost unbearable, but you push it down. Shouting will get you nowhere, and George is trying to sleep. "First of all, that balcony hung over a thick spread of bushes, so I had no injuries except for some thorn scrapes. Secondly, that ghost was going to kill you. Third, I can name at least five more things you've done in the last two weeks that put you in much more danger. Are we seriously going to make this a competition?"

Suddenly, he stands, and his chair scrapes loudly against the floor. You wince, watching as he shoves the first aid kit back into the cupboard. He pauses, hands on the countertop, standing straight as a rod.

Drama queen, you think, but you don't dare say it out loud.

"You're getting too reckless," Lockwood says, his back still facing you. "I can't risk having an agent who is too reckless. It endangers everyone."

Oh, you want to strangle him.

Angrily, you stand, not caring that you almost send the chair clattering to the floor. You press your hands to the table, wrinkling the thinking cloth, and lean forward, scowling.

"Reckless? Do you even hear yourself, Lockwood?"

"I do."

"I think you just love to hear the sound of your own voice. Surely that's why you spout so much bullshit."

"No, I -"

"I'm talking now, Lockwood," you snap and, thank god, he goes quiet. "You of all people do not get to call me reckless, not with the shit you pull. George, yes, he can feel free. But, you? Not a fucking chance. You go out of your way to put yourself in dangerous situations! And I get it, you want to protect us, but that is what I'm doing, too, and you don't see me almost dying! I leave with a scratch or two, so what. You leave with concussions and ghost-touch and the risk of bleeding internally. But, okay, I'm the reckless one. Whatever."

When he turns, his eyes are burning. "You endanger all of us when you pull shit like what you did today."

Scoffing, you say, "All right. What should I have done? Left you and George to be killed? My question is, what would you have done, Lockwood? Would you have left us?"

His silence is your answer, and you stand straight. Your gazes are locked, both alight with rage, but you won't back down. Not on this.

"That's what I thought."

You make to leave, but he moves quickly, grasping your wrist with a touch that should be strong. You're surprised by the gentleness of his hand, how loose his grip is, and you look up at him, frowning. His gaze has changed entirely, from rage to desperation.

"I can't -" He struggles for the words. "I can't lose you, (name). Not like I lost..."

My family. The words are left unspoken, but you know it's what he would've said. There's a pang in your heart, and you want to apologise for it all, but that's always been your gut instinct. To say sorry for everything. But not this time.

"And you think I can bear to lose you?" You try to hide the waver in your voice, but he's caught it, and you know it from the way his gaze softens. "You can't order me around, demand me not to protect you guys, when you do exactly that. It's not fair, Lockwood. Not on me, not on George. And I don't - I don't want a part in this if all you're going to do is sacrifice yourself and then criticise me for doing the same."

His hand shakes as it holds yours, and that's when all the sadness hits you, the regret for the argument you've had. "I'm sorry. I just..."

Your hand closes over his. "I know. I know."

When his forehead touches yours, careful not to press on the gash, you breathe in deeply. And you breathe out all the bad, all the pent-up anger inside of you. There's too little time in your lives to spend like this.

"I won't stop unless you stop," you murmur, closing your eyes.

His breath is warm on your cheeks. "Seems like we're stuck in a checkmate forever, then."

You sigh. "I suppose we are."

a thing i think should be talked about more in Ben and Kevin's relationship (more specifically the Ben and Kevin patented Cycle of Horrors) is how kevin is complicit in it.

Kevin tries to tell Ben as little abt his feelings as possible and show as little weakness, bc he feels like at the first sign of weakness, ben will leave him, or think he's unstable, or think he's dangerous to be around, so he either lies to seem cooler to him or lies by omission (think about all the things that have to be forced out of Kevin to Ben. Ragnarok, his dad, his marriage to looma, vulcanus, everything Kevin either doesn't tell Ben or lies to him abt) Kevin spends all of his time around Ben trying to be as palatable and cool as possible so Ben doesn't ditch him, including hiding how poor he truly is, making how he relies on Ben to pay for food a joke at bens expense instead of his own, or covering up the fact that he doesn't currently have a place to live by lying about having a house party, or excusing his not being able to keep up with sumo slammers as him 'not watching much TV', almost as if he doesn't have a place to. Ben wants so badly to believe that Kevin's doing good too that he'll overlook signs that Kevin is struggling, so as long as Kevin doesn't say anything, Ben won't notice, and they'll stay in the status quo Kevin is so comfortable in, so Kevin can preusmably keep spending all his money on fixing his car and buying alien tech bc the only reason (in his mind) that Ben and Gwen even want him around is that, and he won't talk to them about that to confirm otherwise or he'll die.

most of the reasons Ben and Kevin aren't doing as good as they could be could be solved if they just talked things out but as seen in the show it's physically painful for both of them... I always found it interesting how Kevin loves to sing Ben's praises, sometimes even to his face, but whenever Ben compliments him he either brushes it off or gets upset.... like in duped, when that nice version of Ben tried to tell him he was a good guy now and that he was sorry for what happened, Kevin got upset. it's almost like he subconsciously doesn't WANT Ben to like him and doesn't WANT to be happy bc he knows, as per Ben and Kevin rules, that it'll be ripped away at some point. that's probably why Kevin always forgives Ben no questions asked, bc he assumes this is as good as things are going to get and that it's a privilege Ben's even kept him around this long, but in doing that he never lets Ben know how hurt he is, so Ben keeps going, on and on and on until a situation happens that brings everything to the surface, they treat each other like shit for a bit, and then they both come crawling back, pretending like nothing happened, with not even a sorry.

Kevin wants it to stay like this, Ben knowing a weird, skewed version of him that's easily bullyable and does whatever he wants because to Kevin it's a miracle Ben even likes that version of him. He'll take insults from Ben and Gwen and never sleep and have endless nightmares about the day they both realize what a piece of shit he is, and he knows that's the best he'll ever get.

overall im very disappointed in a lot of the answers given for the voting so ive stayed off twitter almost all day today and yesterday. i fear like with stuff like this a very silent population of eng side shines through, the one that specifically Doesnt actually engage with the story and goes off fanon interpretation. look, im not saying its necessarily a bad thing. but when it comes to stuff like this, where people grossly mischaracterize a grand majority of charas or narrow them down to be the butt of a joke, or use it as an excuse to be plain racist/ableist, i feel like people really need to reassess where all of this is coming from. like. not rinne, but KANAME couldnt even be included because the answers used for his votes were, in their majority, apparently ableist, and op (definitely in the right, i think this was the right choice to make) chose not to post at all because they feared the qrts would be just as bad. because for some reason people seem to think that because they're fictional characters that being ableist is somehow ok, that saying they would "pull the plug" on charas like him and eichi is fine because theyre not real people – as if there werent disabled or chronically ill people in this fandom, in every fandom, or hell, around you?

and lets not mention tatsumi and people blatantly misinterpreting his christianity as something he would force upon others – first of all, western christianity does not apply to tatsumi. at all. i understand that people might find it easy to just associate him with that and make "haha, he would make me convert" or "haha he would be a homophobe" quips, and obviously its not necessary to have extensive knowledge on kirishitan history in japan and how they are, to this day, a minority that was persecuted for a lot of japan's modern history. LIKE, EVEN FROM HIS DIALOGUE IN ANY STORY.. when has he given off that impression? cite your sources, he's literally one of the most inclusive and accepting charas in the whole cast! not a prejudiced white christian middle aged mom...

i think that if you absolutely must reduce a character to tasteless jokes, stereotypes that arent even funny to begin with, and you refuse to even read the source content at all to correct yourself, you really need to think about how you engage with any media, not just enstars. if you want to look at the pretty characters just say that! but dont be like this, and don’t speak on things you don’t fully understand as if you did just to make a point or be funny!

unfortunately rinne himself is built on a few harmful stereotypes of ainu culture irt the drinking, being portrayed or viewed as more 'uncouth' by other characters, etc which is why the initial more explicit ties to ainu culture were removed altogether from his and hiiros design and background. it is understandable, which is for example why it's not really my place to say whether he can be interpreted as ainu or not, and even so, i try not to rely on those aspects of him because it still veers into sensitive territory. and its an unfortunate part of his character, but undeniably, rinne amagi DOES drink, (he's one of the only characters in main cast of drinking age anyway) does partake in harmful behaviors, but fsr suddenly that means hes nothing but a drunkard, to a lot of people. when reading rinne you really have to take these things and ofc, consider that theyre relevant to his character, but it's not all there is...? in the slightest..? there used to be a tweet thread explaining this link further but it's either been taken down or the account has been locked. either way, just a bit of googling goes a long way. i'd rather not go into too much detail here because i don't feel informed enough beyond pointing these issues out, and i personally feel like it's not really my place. if anybody wants to add onto this post to cite more specific sources please feel free

he's such a fun loving, cunning, caring guy who helps people get jobs (dance of the white tiger), who volunteers to play with kids at a daycare (asobi), and wishes so badly to become an idol and grant everyone the same opportunities if theyd like to be, as well (main story, sudden death SUDDEN DEATH IS MY FAV STORY AFTER HL BUT THE TL IS DOWN....SORRY. but i really really think it's one of the most important ones when it comes to rinne's character and motivations. also if u can read it in app it's even better bc it's voiced and theres a line where he's like "oh this guy's [niki] is engaged to me" when talking to kohaku's sister AND HE SOUNDS FULLY SERIOUS TOO....)

don't get me started on people who dumb him down as if he wasn't one of the most clever characters in the game. and unknowingly, people that continue to make rinne's character out to simply be a gambling flirty drunkard who doesn't know how to control himself, as if there weren't other facets of him – they lean into stereotypes, bordering on racism, even if its not malicious or theyre not aware. and it makes me so sad. a lot of the time these interpretations are spread around and then liking characters like him becomes some sort of moral debate, esp in current fandom (which is one of the reasons i think this stereotyping? happens? b/c ive found that fandom sometimes has the tendency of grabbing characters and mischaracterizing them so BADLY that liking them makes you a bad person..? not necessarily villains either! i promise it's okay to just dislike characters without making stuff up!)

that aside also suggesting he'd be an awful, neglectful spouse is simply incorrect. i very firmly believe that if rinne is devoted, he will drop every vice, every pretense, to make the other person happy. he's Like That in the story and towards niki because they keep tiptoeing around the subject but the second he gets an inner monologue, or is truly being genuine, you can tell he would do anything for him, if niki would just let him. to say that rinne isn't capable of being a good partner because he'll treat you badly or not care about you just proves to me that you're not reading any scene he is actually in. if rinne loves you, romantic or not, he will go big or go home. read hot limit btw

Storykeeper

SO . The narrator in this au is timekeeper AKA storykeeper since. keeper of the story :]c shes like a mix of the tsp narrator and timekeeper where shes very dedicated to her story and gets worried about stanley sometimes but also she often gets BORED and enjoys to see stanley stray off the path and even encourages him to!!!

The Stanleys

these are the four stanleys

almond, walnut, roquefort, and cappuccino

sk just Plucked them out of a regular timeline and put them in her little story to watch them scurry around like rats in a maze. All of the stanleys are in completely different office buildings but in rare instances they collide and cause anomalies where two or more stanleys encounter each other which can cause a whole lot of confusion!! sk also puts them in the same office building for fun sometimes👍

sk is everywhere all at once so theyre able to monitor each stanley at the same time :] and to clarify just like canon tsp none of the stanleys can actually see her its more like a voice inside their head. The stanleys cannot talk although they can still think!! they cant communicate with storykeeper and she cant read their minds but they can communicate telepathically with each other if close enough

ALSO all of them are just called stanley!!! sk had to give them different colored ties to differentiate them (now they look like tally hall/j). three of them are trans women and one is nonbinary but theyre all just. Misgendered since they are taking the role OF stanley (this is not fun for the stanleys but there is nothing they can do about it)

Almond

i like thinking about how all of the different stanleys act a lot. almond is the more Serious one who tries to follow every direction. Unfortunately after like the third time of getting the standard ending storykeeper gets bored and just Does things to him to try to get him to do something more interesting. This comes in the form of The Bucket when he starts hearing his daughters voice coming from it and becomes instantly very overprotective and attatched to it <3 he would do anything for that bucket.

even kill.

sk tells him that he has to kill cappuccino or else the bucket gets it and he does so Very enthusiastically!!! by choking him and bashing her head in with a dozen coffee mugs

but yeah. He obeys most commands :] sk thinks hes kind of bland but his dedication to that bucket is fascinating to her

Walnut

Walnut is VERY curious. A very interesting one indeed as she both obeys and disobeys sk depending on how appealing the options are to her!!!! literally all she wants to do is explore the offices she is going to check EVERY door handle and look in EVERY nook and cranny and crevice. she is going to examine every paper and sift through every desk. sk is very annoyed by this as it means that she is Slow as hell when actually going through the story but walnut tends to do some very unexpected things which is entertaining sometimes!!! In the end she is naturally drawn toward any sort of mystery so she can be persuaded to give up exploring so that she can solve it faster :]c

although she starts to become a little uneasy wandering through the seemingly endless building without a single other soul in sight and thus she is also given The Bucket!! it reminds her of her mother and she carries it around because she feels protected and not so alone :)

Roquefort

Roquefort is by far the most entertaining to storykeeper. they are absolutely unpredictable and they manage to find every single choice that wasnt intended to be possible!!! sk cant even be upset because she is FASCINATED by them. it gets to a point where she just creates new scenarios for them just to see what theyd do and she is very entertained by how they manage to surprise them every time

roquefort is also offered a bucket though refuses it. and then it appears in the next room. and the next. and Oh god they are TERRIFIED of that bucket because it keeps FOLLOWING them. they cannot stand it. they want it gone

Cappuccino

Cappuccino is basically the opposite of almond! girlie is so pissed that hes being told what to do all the time that she goes out of her way to do almost everything sk tells her NOT to do. storykeeper is infuriated by this at first but then sees the potential in it because it is VERY fun to use cappuccino as her own personal lab rat/stress ball and just! Do awful things to him!!! like have almond beat the shit out of him<3

he also is given a bucket but has the standard Attatchment to it as seen in tsp for no special reason other than its a bucket. Good way to make him do things!

tell me abt untitled document. :3

untitled document is one of my 1000 btvs dsmp aus. in this specific au, tommy plays the role of buffy (a vampire slayer, including demons and all the forces of evil blah blah blah) and wilbur plays the role of giles (something called a watcher, who is basically a mentor to the vampire slayer) and like. basically wilbur works at tommy’s highschool as a librarian and schlatt is the principal of the highschool. schlatt and wilbur have personal beef, and schlatt also kind of has beef with tommy bc tommy is always doing some shit with demons and schlatt blames him for the damages and shit. quackity is also there Occasionally but he’s just schlatt’s fiance who schlatt sometimes sends in to annoy wilbur.

okay this got kind of long so plot and such under cut

and the plot is basically, schlatt’s nephew tubbo has moved in with him and is being sent to the highschool and everyone is wary and doesn’t want to be his friend bc well. he’s the principal’s son, and also the principal is a bitch. but basically, schlatt makes wilbur and tommy give tubbo a tour of the school (for tommy he says it’s community service) but doesn’t want to be there so he makes quackity take tubbo. so wilbur is already malding, though tommy’s fine with it him and quackity get on fine.

but yeah so all that happens and then quackity finds out something really fucked up schlatt did and starts like yelling at him bc schlatt was hiding in his office for a dramatic reveal and they’re shouting at each other and wilbur somehow gets involved i dont fucking know so tubbo and tommy sneak off together and immediately bond and are besties forever.

anyway. for like a few months it’s just like this. tommy and tubbo besties, vampire slaying, schlatt being principal, etc etc. and then, suddenly, the world is exactly the same except quackity is the principal and schlatt never existed.

in this reality, quackity and wilbur are still combative but they have similar. values? as authority figures in the highschool than schlatt and wilbur ever did, so they squabble and have problems but it’s not As bad. and their relationship actually kind of develops uhh. normally? for them anyway.

but yeah so quackity has a fairly good relationship with most everyone, vice and cabinet 🔛🔝, until one day tommy is in the graveyard on patrol for vampires/demons and sees quackity getting graveyard dirt and being really sus. and he’s like erm… what the scallop? and he goes to wilbur about it because this is weird as FUCK except erm well he learns that wilbur is actually going on a date with quackity and tommy has kind of been vouching for this for a while and it’s only a POSSIBILITY that quackity is doing some weird evil shit and doesn’t want to ruin it for wilbur.

so he tells tubbo! and him and tubbo do some recon while wilbur and quackity are on their date. which is btw actually going well! until tommy finds some insane fucking shit aka a whole human heart in quackity's office and calls wilbur and is like "HEY. HEY. ARE YOU DEAD" and wilbur's like "no why would i be dead im actually having a nice time what are you-" and tommy's like "HE'S A FREAK HE'S KEEPING HUMAN HEARTS AND GRAVEYARD DIRT" and . yeah. so wilbur has to pretend to be so fucking normal. but that's fine bc quackity actually has to be home before 12 so after tommy's call they both are basically like "SO I HAVE TO GO"

and when quackity like. gets home, tommy watches him go into his office and is pretty sure he hears quackity open the box tommy found the box in and then eating. so he is flipping shit. and so is tubbo. and so is wilbur. there is a LOT of flipping shit here.

and then eventually tommy tries to figure shit out blah blah blah quackity ends up like. tying them all up and being like "OKAY. OKAY. FUCKING LISTEN TO ME OKAY. IM NORMAL YOU'RE THE FREAKS HERE." actually this is one of the few scenes i've written so just keep in mind it's unedited as hell

“Listen, I’m sorry, this isn’t how it was supposed to go.”

“Comforting,” Tommy says in a slow, sarcastic tone. He tugs at the rope around his wrists, almost impressed with how well they’re tied if they weren’t around his fucking wrists. In the chair next to him, Wilbur is looking at the ground with a scowl. Apparently he’s chosen to be useless because his boyfriend turned out to be a little evil.

“If you hadn’t been in that fucking graveyard-”

“Sort of my job!”

“I know! I know, and- and it was fine, right? For a little while it was perfectly fucking fine.”

Tubbo cuts in, angry, “Because you erased our memories.”

“I didn’t-” Quackity puts a hand to his head and sighs, rough. “Your memories weren’t fucking erased. Well, Tubbo, yours kind of were.”

“Well that’s alright then! So long as it was only mine!”

“This is why I didn’t want to erase your fucking memories! Harder to explain when I’m the only asshole who knows what’s going on.”

Wilbur finally speaks, “And what exactly is going on, Quackity?”

“There was a man. A shitty fucking man, that Tubbo and I got rid of.”

“What?” Tubbo asks, incredulous. “I didn’t-”

“You asked me to take your memories of him too, because you didn’t think you’d be able to keep it from Tommy.” Tubbo looks thoughtful at that. Tommy thinks it’s bullshit.

“Tubbo wouldn’t kill anyone,” he says. Although, a week ago he thought Quackity wouldn’t kill anyone either.

“Helps when a Dreamon’s at your disposal.”

Wilbur asks, “Why was he shitty? Why did he deserve to die, Quackity? You’ll understand if I don’t take your fucking word for it.”

“If you remembered Schlatt you’d understand.”

“Well, I don’t! You took that from me!”

“Wait, if it’d be easier if we remembered, why’d you make us forget?” Tommy asks.

“Because this is my fucking life, okay? Schlatt doesn’t fucking deserve it! I’m not gonna live in his fucking shadow, I’m not gonna just be what he could’ve been, it’s mine.”

“You took his life. You just- what, bodysnatched him?”

“No! Fuck no, I like having a working liver, actually. This world? It’s just what it’d be if he never existed. Everything he had was because I fucking gave it to him. He was an opportunity-seeker.”

“And you were an opportunity?” Wilbur asks. Quackity glowers.

“The biggest one he got.”

“If this is just the world without Schlatt, why do we still know each other?” Tubbo asks. Quackity actually pauses at that.

“What?”

“You and me, we’re not related, are we?” Quackity opens his mouth but closes it with a frown. “Whoever Schlatt is, we were?”

“You were his nephew.”

“And I killed him?”

“You helped me summon a demon to kill him.”

“A Dreamon,” Wilbur specifies with annoyance.

“A Dreamon,” Quackity repeats with that same annoyance. “Look, I’m the only one who pays a price, okay? I made sure of that.”

Tommy says, “And Schlatt.”

“And Schlatt,” Quackity repeats.

“And all the people you killed.”

“I didn’t kill anyone,” Quackity defends himself quickly. “Sure, I’ll take the blame for Schlatt, but I didn’t-”

“I saw you!” Tommy shouts. “I saw you with the heart!”

“I-” Quackity gets a look of something on his face, like he’s been caught, and Tommy feels the shittiest vindication he ever has. “That’s the price. Every day, I have to eat Schlatt’s heart. Some stupid fucking Prometheus thing, alright?”

“Then why has there been a murder and subsequent snatching of the heart every fucking night for two months?” 

“There’s been a what?” There’s silence as the three of them stare at Quackity who no longer looks caught, but stricken. It gives Tommy a glimmer of hope that sure, yeah, his good friend and pal may have lied and manipulated him, but at least he maybe wasn’t fucking killing people.

Before anyone can say anything else, the air leaves the room. The Dreamon returns, looking like it’s laughing even as the vibe turns solemn.

but yeah. so quackity is under the impression he's eating schlatt's heart every day but the dreamon was actually killing people and shit. and he ends up resetting the world back to how it was. schlatt is still dead bc well. the dreamon killed his ass. but quackity is no longer the principal and he's in a similar boat he was before, just sans-schlatt. which tbf is not the worst boat, he has their house and plenty of money and shit. and tubbo also remembers now and is like "damn my bad bossman" but basically quackity ends up getting a job as a history/social studies teacher at the highschool.

and this is just part one of the fic LMFAO. like it's just the lead-in fr. a lot of other shit happens and wilbur and quackity have an annoying slowburn after the pretty quick get together bc well wilbur is being really really petty about the whole "erasing memories" thing <- his issues start off genuine that is a very large like. violation of trust however it DOES end up just being petty once he forgives quackity bc he's like mad as hell that he forgives quackity. also tbh quackity was right fr...

anyway. also dream becomes the principal after this. and also there's this prophecy that they hear/find that wilbur becomes convinced is about him. and also eret shows up at some point to take over wilbur's job and wilbur is MALDING like fucking crazy (eret betrayed the watcher's council ages ago but she redeemed herself and phil let them back in btw phil is like head of the watcher's council and wilbur definitely does not have severe daddy issues about all of this). anyway sorry for dropping so much about that story my ass is never writing it so.

oh man also on the tnt date wilbur has kind of an moment where he makes the suggestion of quackity meeting phil . before realizing that’s an insane thing to suggest on a first date. except quackity is “gets engaged on the first date” vibes so this is kind of a W except later when wilbur is in his malding era quackity is kind of a bitch about this like every time wilbur’s being especially bitchy quackity’s like “right so that’s why you asked me to meet your dad on the first date” and wilbur wants to kill quackity and himself

and at some point phil comes to visit and wilbur is like DEDICATED to quackity and phil not meeting. they do end up meeting and not liking each other very much which is momentarily kind of devastating to wilbur but then he realizes it's really really fucking funny.

also at some point wilbur gets fired bc the watcher’s council want wilbur to like. drug tommy without telling him so he loses his slayer powers to put him through a test/trial. but wilbur starts to do it, dedicated to his duty/father, but ends up not being able to and telling tommy and his ass gets fired. and that’s when eret comes in. and also tommy is kind of mad as fuck for a little while bc wilbur did do the first part like tommy did get drugged and lose his powers but wilbur couldn’t do the whole. tossing tommy in there and letting him possibly die part. and so tommy’s feeling like well the person he trusts most in this world did this awful thing to him. but also wilbur gave up like his entire life to keep tommy safe. so it’s a bit confusing.

also tommy and wilbur live together in this au bc tommy was kind of a vagabond dude who ended up coming to the hellmouth when he was like 14 and wilbur was like “hi im your watcher! oh you dont have parents or family. um. well i have a guest room.” and yeah. but yeah tommy’s a bit pissed with wilbur for a little while but to him wilbur’s love outweighs his sins blah blah blah. anyway. yeah that’s when eret comes in and wilbur is the joker from the movie the joker.

OH also . wilbur used to be married with a child. and then sally got turned into a vampire and turned fundy into a vampire and wilbur had to kill fundy and sally ended up running off. his dark past or whatever.

i dont remember when wilbur and quackity get together fr. probably a little while after quackity meets phil? i dont fucking know. the timeline in this story is a fucking nightmare.

jake is spider-man! he’s been spider-man for,, a few months prior to tmf canon? (no special names or anything . he’s literally just spider-man. i call him spider-jake occasionally)

zander doesn’t take any specific love interest role from spidey canon because fuck canon (miguel hates this dimension) (mainly saying this part because i know Nothing about spider-man other than stuff in the spider-verse films sorry i know i’m one of those people)

jake is crushing BIG TIME on zander and he tries to impress him both as jake and spider-man. unfortunately zan is indifferent to the latter (and he doesn’t know his identity) so whenever spider-jake notices that zan’s in the crowd he tries to pull a lot more stunts to make him like spider-man HAHAGSHJDSHJ

(zan Does like jake though! he thinks it’s a little weird that jake keeps talking about spider-man but like. zan will still listen. because it’s jake :3c)

the spider-jake storyline was originally gonna be after or completely separate from tmf canon but i figured it has potential when combined with the canon conflict leading up to the finale :3

some time around whatever’s supposed to happen in the last part of the finale, there’s trouble in rosemeadow and zan gets roped into it somehow (bonus: it’s because of spider-jake)

and spider-jake saves him from said trouble!!! zan gets to really see and hear spider-man (jake slips up a little, forgetting to lower his voice and almost calling zan by name)

they get a bit of time to breathe after the rescue where spider-man gets all emotional and apologizes ,,, in such a heartfelt way ,,,, (but he masks the apology as being for getting zan into all this trouble)

zan’s a little (read: EXTREMELY) confused by this but oh no! there’s still trouble! and spider-man swings away

spider-man saves the day once again, yk, just spidey things

zander manages to catch spider-man to say thanks :,] (jake almost slips up again but overall it’s a weirdly sweet moment)

that night zander thinks about what happened and he realizes—oh shit that’s jake

i have a translation question ive been wondering abt (sorry if you've answered this before, I tried looking but couldn't find if you've mentioned it).

So Sae's conversation with the SIU director on 6/5 after madarame's change of heart has her asking to investigate the psychotic breakdown/mental shutdown cases, specifically saying "we need to find a correlation among the incidents these past two, three years." This struck me as odd because as of 6/5 hasn't it only barely been about 2 years? I know Akechi has only been working for shido around two years at this point which is when he first induced psychotic breakdowns to prove his worth to shido, and then Wakaba is noted to have been around when the mental shutdowns started happening on 8/21, so it seems odd to me that sae who is usually pretty precise with her knowledge on the case would suddenly give a range that doesn't seem to be accurate, implying the cases have been going on longer than they have.

I'm wondering if something got lost in translation, or if perhaps I'm looking too deep into it and this line is alluding to metaverse incidents that happened before akechi met with shido (like the stuff that happened with maruki, or maybe even akechi figuring out his own powers himself before turning to shido, idk)

Hello, anon, and thank you! I have not answered this before and I'm delighted to look at it.

Here's Sae in the SIU Bastard's office on 6/5.

Sae ここ2、3年の間に起きた事件を関連付けて、調査すべきです。 koko ni, sannen no aida ni okita jiken o kanrenzukete, chousa subeki desu We need to dig deeper and find a correlation among the incidents these past two, three years.

Literally, "the cases that took place over the last two to three years".

But what's going on here? What's the context of this scene?

on sae's case and others

6/5 is the last "real" day of the Madarame arc, the day it all wraps up. Madarame confesses; Akechi pops up in Station Square to watch (and, coincidentally of course, Kichijoji unlocks); you have a flashforward to the interrogation room where your next target is named; and Sae visits her boss, to link the psychotic breakdown cases she's been working on with the Phantom Thieves case that she has, to date, not been working on.

He is not best pleased, put it like that. Niijima is getting far too close to the truth. This will play out in later months.

One of the first things that happens in the game is that subway crash cutscene on 4/10. That's when we first see these two talk; Sae has made the connection that the "incidents" that have been going on, the scary accidents where people suddenly lose their minds, are all connected—a single case. The likelihood is that she brings Akechi in that day because he's known to have solved several of those cases.

On 5/4, at the end of the Kamoshida arc, Sae visits Leblanc, and talks about the psychotic breakdowns and the Kamoshida case: "Can a person's mental state really change so easily?" So here on 6/5, when she insists on the similarity between the psychotic breakdowns and the changes of heart, she's following a trail she's been on all along.

But of course, this is an ongoing case. Sae is likely refining and eliminating her data as she goes. It's perfectly possible she says "two or three years" because she simply hasn't narrowed her timeframe... or is it?

the news report at the start

Something else I want to quickly highlight from this scene:

When we cut to the scene, Sae and the SIU Asshole are watching a news report:

Newscaster: ...The suspect has repeatedly testified that he does not have any recollection of his actions. Newscaster: A full psychiatric evaluation will be performed to further investigate the crime's details and motives.

Note that this unfortunate suspect is not Madarame. Madarame remembers his actions. He's just confessed to them all on camera. His news report, earlier in the day, stated that "initial psych evaluations state that he is mentally sound and likely responsible for his actions".

This is a totally unrelated psychotic breakdown. This is interesting, because at the start of June, background gossip is suggesting that "those weird incidents just stopped all of a sudden". But they haven't; there's one right here.

So are they just being reported on less? Has the Madarame incident made it necessary for there to be a publicised psychotic breakdown, to remind people of the scary incidents? Don't forget, the news we see is constantly manipulated in Shido's interests.

the timing of the incidents

Anon, you summed up the timing pretty well, but to quickly go over it again—Akechi starts working for Shido some time around 2014/05/21. We don't know when he awakens, or what he initially does, though he likely has a window after the conclusion of P4AU (is that in 2012?) when it can happen—Velvet Rooms may be unconnected, but I don't think there are multiple Igors, and I can't see Igor sitting on his ass with a brand new wild card running about. So IMO Akechi must awaken after Igor is imprisoned. Don't forget he gets the app from Yaldabaoth; he—and Joker—don't spontaneously awaken. And they both awaken into the Metaverse we know—a cognitive world centred on and controlled by Yaldabaoth.

On 11/21, Akechi states that the first thing he does for Shido, the act that proves his value and that he's not insane, is to give psychotic breakdowns to a group of Shido's critics in the Diet. So Akechi must a. have Call of Chaos, and b. have used it enough to know how it works, before he approaches Shido.

Again, we don't know what this looks like. But if, say, Akechi begins causing psychotic breakdowns on his own behalf, in the spring of 2013, when he'd be fourteen-turning-fifteen-in-June, then that would give us the three years Sae mentions.

The fact that the dating is uncertain, though, IMO, suggests that Akechi's personal use was rather sporadic and not easily traced back to him. It wasn't systematic, like Shido's use of him would later be; it wasn't the wave of terror it would become.

Essentially: just as you say, Akechi exists in canon and has a life long before he arrives on Shido's doorstep. He doesn't awaken two years before canon; he awakens before that point, and contacts Shido two years before canon. He has his powers before that point.

And we just don't know what he's like then, or what he chooses to do—except that there's presumably some conflict between the sides of him represented by Robin Hood and Loki, where his worse nature wins out.

sae on 8/22

Let's take a look at that other line of Sae's you mentioned:

Sae 若葉の死は2年前⋯『あれ』が起き始めた時期とも一致する⋯ wakaba no shi wa ninenmae... "are" ga okihajimeta jikan to mo icchi suru... Wakaba's death was two years ago... That also coincides with when the incidents started occurring...

Sae does not actually say "the incidents"—a phrase that, in P5 at this point, unquestionably describes the psychotic breakdowns. She says are—"all of that". It's quoted in the textbox, to emphasise its significance. We're supposed to understand what she means from context. And what's the context?

Well, Wakaba suffers a mental shutdown. We know, and Sae suspects, that the psychotic breakdowns, the mental shutdowns, and, yes, the changes of heart, are all one big, interconnected thing. Sae could be conflating all of it here.

But the thing is, she goes on to bring the psychotic breakdowns back into the conversation:

Her are in the line about Wakaba's death can only have been the mental shutdowns. "all of those things that are like Wakaba's death".

What does that give us? "Wakaba's death was two years before that."—note, Sae is speaking in November, in flashforward—"That coincides with the start of the mental shutdowns."

what about maruki?

Going by his journal, Maruki's activity period seems to overlap with Akechi's—no years are given, but his journal describes an almost-three-year period, culminating in January 2017—the third semester.

He doesn't use his power until August 2014, at the same time as the mental shutdowns begin. But he's making small changes to the cognition of individuals—there's no sign he causes anything like a psychotic breakdown.

conclusions??

Let's sum up:

on 8/28, Sae's "two years before" likely refers only to the mental shutdowns;

on 6/5, Sae's "two to three years" likely refers only to the psychotic breakdowns;

we don't know when Akechi awakened, or what he did, but he did less of it than he did once he was working for Shido;

... but he almost certainly did do some of it—so there will have been psychotic breakdowns before ?May 2014, that might account for the "three year" period.

GONNA BE HONEST….. it’s a cop out answer but it really depends on what it is? bc for most things the answer is “they’re willing to do anything… as long as chen wouldn’t order them to stand down for it” . but for certain fun things. like taking the fight to mother dearest. the answer is “genuinely the only way ur going to stop them is by killing them”

someone who fawn deems responsible for their actions (ie north inside the farm, chen/ric outside of it) could order it from them, but for actually Convincing ?? I’d say probs 50-50

they Are still a sidestep so u have to put up w that classic stubbornness (trying to make them do smth they don’t want ?? c’mon) but fawn’s Personal moral compass probs allows way more shit than you’d expect. so like… probs a really good argument could sway them in your favor but it might also just make them yell at u a bunch

fun fact !! we have thought abt it and decided it involves Quite A Bit of screaming (and sometimes angry-crying!) and furiously yanking at their own hair (w the intent of causing pain to try and let themself feel in control of literally anything) 😌 it’s an emotion they tend to associate w feeling helpless (bc anger just takes up SO MUCH of their emotional processing when it hits) so they basically try to burn it up out of their system asap

and before you ask: yes absolutely ric Has been on the receiving end of a screaming match and come away w the claw marks of trying to physically restrain them from doing it <3

Admin Saturn: I now have a crush on kazui! The other admins have been trying to convince me that because his whole arc is showing why he's not a good husband to his wife but like bro... open marriage and a guy that buys me flowers and holds my hand and takes me on drives? Sounds pretty swaggy to me! Also he ate a bird! Thats kinda wack!

Overall based on the info we have and everything he's said in his VD (assuming its to be trusted cause he does have that whole lying thing going on), I would personally go with inno. Like unless his sin was suicide baiting her, I don't entirely see how this could turn into a guilty situation. Definitely not on the same level as a lot of the other prisoners. (looking at how guilty mahiru should be but isn't getting)

Admin Venus: I'll summarize what I talked about in my theory, but honestly, I feel like Kazui didn't do all that much wrong. He seems like he just kinda let life go the way other people wanted it to go for him, and somewhere along the way he realized he really didn't enjoy it. At some point he got "greedy" and took steps to try to change that, but his wife probably committed suicide or possibly got into some kind of accident or something. Either way, that's what resulted in her death.

Between that and him being useful on defense from a meta standpoint, I'm not sure why I would vote him guilty. I wish we knew more though, I feel like both half and Cat were pretty sparse on details relating to the actual death of his wife. Like, I understand your situation, Kazui, tell me what actually happened!

Side note though, it's really interesting to me in the audio drama that he says he wants Es to find out his sin. In the first trial, I'd thought his MV was giving nothing because he was purposefully burying details to hide them from us. After hearing that line in the audio drama and seeing this MV, I feel more like Kazui's repressing his feelings on whatever his sin is so hard that even the MVs can't quite get at them.

(Also, the fact that we still haven't seen anyone who he's romantically involved with (other than his wife) adds to the theory that he's gay for me. A lot of other people (Shidou's wife, Mahiru's lover, etc.) have gotten relevant characters' faces revealed this time, and while we did get that for Kazui's wife, I feel like who he was with would've been revealed to us unless there was a specific reason to hide it (ex. he was with a man).)

Admin Neptune: I'm definitely team innocent. Although it seems like Kazui hurt his wife by not wanting to be married anymore, he tried to be a better person and stop lying to her. Unfortunately, according to him, this resulted in her death. It doesn't really seem like he did much wrong, especially compared with many of the other prisoners, and he helps keep the prisoners safe.

The part where his wife's image transforms into what is seemingly a man with an apple for a head (along with other parts such as the "I can't stop, I can't be normal") leads me to believe that he's gay. Assuming that the apple is supposed to represent something he feels is forbidden, this part could represent his desire to date/marry a man instead. I find it interesting that he sees this image through an alcoholic drink, and I feel like it represents something but I'm not completely clear on what.

Since Kazui says "I can't live unless I lie" as mentioned above in the VD, I wouldn't be surprised if he was still lying, but I do believe that he never actually cheated on his wife. I do wonder if he would consider "emotional cheating" infidelity, and it seems like the temptation might have been there when he says "it didn't even turn into infidelity."

AMY: has some form of abandonment issues which is what makes her as clingy as she is. generally used to feel left out and misunderstood from sonic n others in games like adventure and adventure2 but their relationshipsget better. listen. listen i heard someone on tumblr hc amy having abandonment issues and it hasnt left my miind since. she used to feel embarrassed by herself and her personality but became much more expressive of herself as time went on bc she starrted feeling more accepted.
