today is my six month anniversary with @jedusaur! i am so grateful for six months of being loved, protected, and cared for by someone who makes me feel special in a way i never knew was possible.
this is a song about my jed<3
in northern california, there are trees
that clear your mind and make you feel at ease
wish i could give you that kind of peace
close your eyes, think of me, and breathe
northern california grew you up
so northern california’s in your blood
kansas city or seattle, all the places that you travel
make you who you are and who i love
i wanna give you what you need
i can only give you me
i don’t need your roots
‘cause i love your leaves
in your chosen forest
can i be one of your favorite trees?
i ain’t perfect, i will make mistakes
the branches bend, and some of them will break
we’ll both get hurt sometimes, but it’s gonna be okay
even when it’s hard, i want to stay
you’ve seen my scars and love me anyway
i’ve never felt so safe inside my skin
you love me like nobody ever did
i didn’t know i deserved to feel like this
i didn’t know that someone like you exists
in northern california, there are trees
with ancient roots and brand new leaves
once we get going
i hope we never stop growing
‘cause the growing is so beautiful to me
i think my favorite part is the leaves
‘cause we are more than who we used to be
i love who you are and who you’ll be
close your eyes, think of me, and breathe

ALBUM OF THE MONTH: BY REQUEST! CHATTANOOGA-CHOO-CHOO & MORE FROM THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK https://johnnyjblairsingeratlarge.bandcamp.com/album/by-request-chattanooga-choo-choo-more-from-the-great-american-songbook
—i.e. pop standards, showtunes, cowboy songs …For some time I've been performing these songs in assisted living homes, providing musical service to people in various stages of dementia and disability. There is proof-positive that music reaches into more areas of the brain than language, math, and other forms of communication. I've seen miraculous things happen to people who are considered to be "disconnected"--suddenly, they're singing, clapping, toe-tapping, dancing...all from singing these familiar tunes. Staff members at these homes tell me the music helps the residents to eat and sleep better. Recovery I see takes anywhere from weeks to mere minutes.
Some of the folks I entertain are deep in "memory care." Others had strokes or other set-backs. Some are as young as 40-something. Others are well into their 90s and beyond (including World War II veterans). I've played many homes around the San Francisco Bay Area and Oregon. Residents requested these songs, and I recorded them for their enjoyment when I’m not around.**IMPORTANT: I am seeking financial support to keep doing the care home work (I collect a fee, but it doesn't cover all my expenses for travel and gear). When you download this album, you have the option of paying zero or any amount you can afford. All proceeds go toward providing more music for the residents. Thank you!**
