Can We Fix It?
fic • caregiver J'onn J'onzz, regressor John Stewart
still on my John kick. Might write more for these two!
Tumblr media
John was feeling under the weather. He hated to admit it, but he was. He was stubborn when it came to taking breaks from hero work - but this flu had progressed to the point he could barely stand. He laid face down on his bed, groaning through the tight pain in his stomach. His groan melted into a whine as his stomach rolled. Ugh, not this again, he found himself thinking. This flu would not make him regress, he promised himself that. Though, when he reached for the water bottle on his night stand, it spilled. He hated messes. This day just went from bad to worse.
He took a deep breath and prepared himself to roll out of bed, preferably into a standing position. That didn’t happen though, as when he rolled over he rolled clean off the bed, into the puddle of water. John’s face twisted into a pout and he hit the ground with his fist. Ugh! Now he was all wet too? How was he gonna change his shirt if he couldn’t even get up? It was all too much. He hit the ground more and more. His mom’s voice rang through his head, John Marshall Stewart, you better fix your attitude. He stopped his flailing. His mom. He wanted his mom so bad, and the way he was acting? His mom would probably be disappointed. He covered his face with his hands, trying to hide the tears from an imaginary audience. He hated regression. Hate, hate, hated it!
“John?”
A rumbling voice cut through John’s loud thoughts.
“J’onn?’ He replied.
Said martian was hovering right above him, looking worried at his spot on the floor. Everything’s fine, John thought, act casual.
“H-hey man,” John’s voice cracked. Seriously?
“Are you alright?” J’onn asked, his voice painfully gentle, “Your tracker sent an alert that your heart rate was elevated, and I know you’re not well,”
John grimaced at the pain blooming in his back, “I’m fine. Just rolled off the bed is all.”
“Let me help you,”
Before John could protest, he was being lifted by his friend. J’onn set him back in bed, and laid the back of his hand on John’s forehead.
“Getting anything from that?”
J’onn shrugged,“... No, but Clark did it to me when I was sick.”
They shared a laugh.
“Thanks for checking in on me, Big J,”
“Of course. It wasn’t just the sensor that sent me,”
John quirked a brow.
“Your mother wanted me to check in on you,”
John hid his face in embarrassment, mama! He grumbled.
“Think nothing of it, my friend. I’ll be staying with you to make sure you recover,”
“Oh, J’onn, you don’t have to do that.”
“Are you suggesting I disobey a direct order from Shirley Stewart?”
“Oh, yeah, you better stay.”
They laughed again.
J’onn examined John’s face closer, finding the tear stains. He reached up a hand to wipe the still-wet tracks away.
“Little one…”
John flinched.
“Nope, nope, none of that,” John pouted. He crossed his arms and looked away.
“John, I don’t mean to assume, but if this illness is making you regress -”
“It’s not.” he huffed. J’onn retracted his hand.
“Alright, if you say so.”
John perked up at the success. Ha! He was not regressed. Even J’onn thought so.
"Will you at least let me help you out of your wet shirt?
John had already forgotten about the shirt.
"I can do it by myself, thanks,"
With great struggle (and perhaps a hand from J'onn) the shirt was discarded and replaced with a soft Howard University sweatshirt.
“Is it okay if I put something on TV?” J'onn asked.
“Of course, I’ve got some DVDs on the shelf.”
J’onn walked over and thumbed through the shelf. A smirk crossed his face, but was quickly covered with his usual neutral expression. He popped the DVD in the player, and an animated selection screen flicked on. A familiar song started to play.
“J’onn. I know what you’re doing.”
“What am I doing?”
“Bob the Builder? This is a kid’s show.”
“Oh? I wasn’t aware. You’re the one with the DVD.”
John huffed. “Touche.”
The theme song played on. Once the episode proper began, John propped himself up to see.
“What is that?” J’onn asked, pointing at the contraption on screen.
“You’ve never seen a steam roller?”
“I don’t get out much.”
“Well, now you have,” John said, “his name is Roley.”
“Do all steam rollers have names?”
“No! Just this one!” John giggled.
…giggled?
“What are the other creatures' names?”
“They’re not really creatures, J, they’re machines,”
“Then why do they have eyes?”
“I dunno!” John was laughing now.
“Well, what are their names?”
“Okay okay… can you… can you look in that bottom drawer?”
J’onn opened the drawer, finding little plastic figures inside.
“Oh! It’s Roley!” J’onn held up the green steamroller.
“Bring ‘em all over!”
John was sitting up in bed now, trying to curb his growing smile. J’onn spread out the toys on the bed.
“Okay so this is Scoop, he’s a backhoe loader, and Muck is a dump truck - dump trucks are my favorite - and Dizzy, a cement mixer! And Bob, obviously.”
“Bob is the only human among them? How did he come to know these sentient machines?”
John laughed, “I dunno!”
“Maybe if we watch, we’ll find out.”
“Sit here, J!” John beamed, patting the spot next to him.
“Of course, little one.”

The Eighth Sense Ep 9 & 10
Ending the series on ep 9 would be the best solution for me. Because the finale was... weird. And as far as I’m concerned, completely detached in terms of plot, vibe and treatment of characters and their problems from the previous 9 episodes.
I really enjoyed episode 9. That JiHyun was starting to waver if he was doing the right thing by pursuing JaeWon, how he thinks and worries about him. His discussion with his friends was GREAT, they were all so sensitive and thoughtful. AeRi and JoonPyo sensibly stating that they need to think about what is going on in JaeWon's life, that there must be something more behind his behavior. Both helping JiHyun until the end of the series was so cool, they really are like a royal council lol, giving good advice and supporting JiHyun 💖 I also liked what the therapist said about how JaeWon thinking about protecting JuHyun, could actually hurt him. (serious Utsukushii Kare flashbacks) Another great scene is at the surf club. JaWon rejecting the touch. JiHyun who doesn't give up. JaeWon who crumbles. And also YoonWon's breakdown. I think JaeWon's "awakening" started when he notices that his only good friend is suffering, when he starts comforting her, when he realizes that there is someone else, someone close to him, who is also suffering and JaeWon MUST comfort her. And to do that, he has to put her suffering over his. Another great scene is in the library where JaeWon and EunJi behave perfectly in their characters. EunJi playing down her cheating and blaming everything on JaeWon. JaeWon apologizing.  And the end of the ep: JaeWon's thoughts and reminiscing, the song, visiting places with memories of JiHyun, GOING TO JIHYUN, JiHyun's joy, the passionate kiss... 10/10
And this is where the series should end, at least for me.
Because episode 10 was so different for me from the others, so unrealistically positive that (especially after the episode with a trip to the beach) I watched it tensed up, just waiting for the tragedy. I respected the show so far, because of how realistic it felt, everything JaeWon did was perfect for me because it was real. His behavior in the finale was baffling for me, JaeWon came out of a 10-year depression with the power of a spoon and love, like....????? JaeWon was overconfident, about everything, including being JiHyun's boyfriend. Too enthusiastic, too healthy and stable for someone with an old and quite recent trauma, who literally ran away from his problems with JiHyun 3 episodes ago. I AM ABSOLUTELY ALL FOR JAEWON TO BE HEALTHY AND HAPPY AND IN LOVE, but I want to see his way to get there! A show that sensitively treated people with depression suddenly decided that all you had to do was find your local Yoda who tells you to "get your shit together" and "life is short" and bam! Suddenly everything is going well! No one expected that healing from depression was so easy! I understand JaeWon and his going to JiHyun's work place. The weird thing was that he stayed there even though JiHyun wasn't there, but there was a woman talking about how handsome he was, which always annoys him when other people do that. I don't understand the scenes with TaeHyung, who is the most ordinary d*ck, I don't understand JaeWon, who supposedly is going to focus only on selected -good - people around him, and who suddenly tolerates bully because "he’s so honest and doesn't wear a mask". wtf?? He doesn't wear it because he doesn't care who he hurts and from the beginning of the series TaeHyung is ONLY a hateful, jealous bully, nothing more, what is the value of such friendship???🤷‍♀️ I don't understand the scenes with EunJi suddenly promoted to the role of a respectable, smiling senior giving good advice. 🤷‍♀️ I don't understand the idea of the bullies and their victims dancing together happily. EunJi was literally figting with AeRi and BitNa, making them cry, behaved vulgarly towards JiHyun including manipulation, kissing JaeWon in front of JiHyun just to WIN; TaHyung was desperate to punish JaeWon and now they’re all jumping on the dance floor and all is good????? naaaaaaaaah
tl:dr, the cure for depression and trauma is, "but have you tried NOT to be depressed and traumatized?" also "get yourself a lover". And the story ends well only when everyone is happy, including bullies, who need to be forgiven and reconciled with, because, well, clearly they have received too little from their victims so far.
I’m very happy that JaeWon and JiHyun are happy, in love and alive. But I'd rather see the time spent at the party, making peace with the bullies, be spent on JaeWon and his struggles with self-acceptance, initial relationship problems that were bound to come up, etc. I wish I could see JaeWon still not trusting his new life with his boyfriend and panicking from time to time if JiHyun is ok. I can't believe that everything is so simple and easy, because if it was, then what were those 9 episodes for?
For me, JaeWon is too complex a character to end his story in such a banal and simple way. He is a deeply tragic character... who simply, effortlessly dealt with all his problems, all in one evening 😃

For Now - Thee Sacred Souls
Chapter 1: Good Enough
Hot, toasted bread shot up from the toaster and the woman in her Los Angeles apartment reached for it eagerly. She was in a rush, but she was starving. The morning light streamed in through the cloudy, aged kitchen window, heating up the apartment already even though it was only a quarter to nine in the morning.
The Los Angeles heat seemed intent on baking her apartment to a crisp today and she made a mental note to turn the window A/C unit on in the guest bedroom before she left for work to protect her dogs from the heat. Could she eat at work? Probably. But rubbing her tired eyes, she only had a one-track mind to get the simple breakfast in her belly and get on the road.
Regardless of when she left the apartment, she would have to battle the intense Los Angeles traffic and in the mood she had woken up in, she did not want to do that on an empty stomach – both for her safety and the safety of the people of Los Angeles.
“Ah! God! Ouch!” she screamed, burning her hand on the too-hot toast.
The pain woke her up and broke her from her repetitive train of thought. She had been ruminating on her life, as she always did when she was tired and hungry. More and more, she was finding herself to be dissatisfied with her life and she was especially nasty with her thoughts and self-criticisms when she was in a foul mood.
The woman shook the pain out of her scorched fingertips and reached for the toast once more to flop it onto a paper towel and slather some I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter! on it and head out the door.
The meager breakfast only made her feel worse this morning. She was a pastry chef, after all. She had no business being unable to feed herself properly, if she had woken up early she could have made herself a nice breakfast with protein that would satiate her and make her feel better.
But she hadn’t. And so, she bitterly ate her toast as she ensured that her dogs were carefully locked away in the guest bedroom that they stayed in while she and her partner were at work. The two animals gave her puppy dog eyes, sad to see her go, but excited to get their morning treat. Then, she turned the window A/C unit on to ensure that they wouldn’t be suffering in the Southern Californian heat and made her way out the door.
“What are you doing?” she said aloud as she locked her apartment door behind her. “Why are you unhappy? Why is nothing good enough for you?”
She swore and questioned her own sanity as she walked to her car, a beat up 2009 Toyota Camry. Her car was an accurate reflection of how she felt her life was going. The car was nice enough if it wasn’t so basic and didn’t have any scratched paint.
As she sat in the driver’s seat, she scrolled through her phone to pick a playlist for today’s drive to work. As she selected her favorite playlist to try to boost her soured mood, a text message from her partner flashed across the top of the screen.
[Partner]: Have a good day at work. <3
She sighed and a sense of heavy dread filled her. For a moment, she considered ignoring his text until she arrived at her job, but she knew that her partner would expect her to respond fairly quickly.
“U too <3”, she typed out before shoving her phone into one of the empty cup holders of her car and putting her car in reverse.
Work was mundane, but then again, how could it not be? She was good at what she did –amazing even – but how could she be satisfied when work came easy to her. She always wondered what life could have been like if she hadn’t chosen the easy option time and time again.
What should you do as a career? Easy route. Which man should you choose? Easy route. Should you have children? No, easy route.
Perhaps it was that her life was not lacking in happiness necessarily, but it was the challenge that was missing from her days. People always said that men would cheat on their partners because of the lack of a hunt. Once a man conquered a woman, they had already succeeded in their neanderthal brain, or something like that.
Maybe that was it. Maybe she needed a hunt of her own to keep her satisfied in this life. Her job as a pastry chef at Disneyland’s Central Bakery left more to be desired. Sure, she was able to be creative and create cute treats that brought smiles to the faces of both children and adults alike. The job would be a dream job by the standards of any prospective pastry chef, but she couldn’t see it that way.
She washed her hands of the frosting and sugar that coated her hands after creating a new batch of pastries for a testing group to try. They were new pastries that were inspired by the latest Disney hit film, Encanto.
She frowned as she looked at the delicious multi-colored tray full of delights on a sheet pan and wished that there would be another Asian-inspired Disney film. There were so many ideas in her mind for treats that harkened back to her own culture. Maybe, just maybe, she could even act in it.
Eyebrows knitting together with frustration, she dried her hands with a fresh rag and thrust the thought out of her mind. Acting for her was a been there done that endeavor.
When she had been living with her former partner in Northern California, she had tried her hand at acting diligently, but she had never tried after she moved to Los Angeles with her expartner. There were less opportunities there, sure, but she didn’t think that she would ever make it in LA. Especially with her age now.
Let’s face it, she had been in her early twenties when she had made a true attempt at becoming an actress. Her beauty was what she considered to be at its peak when she had arranged for professional headshots to be taken and sacrificed each and every paycheck in order to take time off of work and go to audition after audition.
In the Bay Area, she had landed a few odd jobs but nothing to really add to any sort of portfolio to further progress her dream of being an actor. To be honest with herself, though, was it really her dream?
She had always found difficulty with finding the difference between her own dreams and the dreams that her mother had made for her. Even her name, the middle name Starr, had been her mother’s wishful thinking that her first-generation American daughter would be the greatest success of their family.
Her mother had wanted her to become a doctor, a dentist, anything that would bring their family generational wealth in order for her mother to consider their immigration and struggles that they faced to be “worth it”. She would even settle for her daughter to be an actress, despite the career not coming with the educational accolades that immigrant parents so desperately wanted for their children.
But the woman couldn’t provide her mother with even that. Instead, she decided to become a pastry chef. She worked for one of the major corporations in the United States, and so her mother at least appeared to be proud of her. What would she think if she gave acting another shot though?
Now, at 32, would people even give her headshot a second look?
Even in the highly saturated market of Los Angeles, would she land a single audition? She didn’t know for sure, but her chances seemed doubtful. There was no way that she would be able to swing it financially either.
Acting was a pipe dream, nothing more.
The woman rolled her eyes and started to pack up her supplies and ingredients before delivering the test products to the tasting group that had arrived for their appointment.
“They’re delicious!”
“Amazing, incredible. What a creative recipe.”
“Oh my goodness, these are going to be such a hit in the Parks.”
“A Disney-bloggers dream! The kids are going to love this!”
They complimented and praised her endlessly and made the decision right then and there to roll the new Encanto products out to Disneyland, California Adventure, and Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Florida. She should be proud of herself, should be tickled pink by her ability to wow corporate Disney into including her original recipes into their theme parks.
If she was honest with herself, though. She wasn’t proud. She could hardly fake her smile as the tasting group congratulated her on yet another successful recipe.
All she could think about as she gathered her belongings and left for the day was what could have been. Should she have stayed with her toxic ex? Should she have started dating her current partner?
What would her life have been life if she hadn’t even gotten involved with men in the first place? Would she have achieved any of her dreams then?
What if she had moved to Los Angeles on her own at 22 and really tried to get into acting then? Would she be famous now? Would her mother be proud of her?
She twisted the keys in the ignition of her car and rested her forehead against the steering wheel while these anxious thoughts swirled within her head. They were overwhelming and dangerous thoughts. She could do it today if she wanted to, she had enough saved up in her personal checking account.
If she really wanted to, she could leave her partner and take one of the dogs and go. She could even quit her job right now. Her boss was still at the office, she could walk back in and say two words and end it all.
“I quit.”
But then what? She would just be alone without a direction to go in. Without even her placeholder career to fill some of the void within her.
And so ending it wasn’t an option, it was just yet another a cop out. A decision that would only result in the downward trajectory of her life instead of being a new beginning. And for what it’s worth, she didn’t want to hurt her partner. She didn’t want to split up the dogs either, they were best buddies. The four of them were basically a family, she couldn’t destroy her family on a whim, despite being an Aquarius.
She laughed at the idea that she could be so dissatisfied with her life because of her star sign. Surely there were Aquarian women in the world that were happy with their lives.
There must be. Right?
When she arrived back at her apartment, her partner’s car was already there.
When they had first gotten together, they had met through their work. But in the years that they had spent together, he had grown and changed and picked a different career path. He was less creative now, more serious, but he still loved her all the same and his own business was taking off and allowing them to save up to possibly be able to afford something small in the area.
She entered their apartment and put on a smile as her dogs happily bounded up to greet her at the door. Their evenings were disgustingly routine based and the more she went through her typical steps, the more upset she started to feel. All she wanted to do was strip down to her underwear and lay in bed and cry for an hour, maybe more.
But life was good, life was great. And so, she had to take off her shoes and pet her puppies and kiss her partner on the lips before heading to the kitchen to put together a quick and easy dinner as usual.
She stayed in her own head as she cooked. She had started to resent cooking their meals night after night. Didn’t he know that she spent all day putting ingredients together? It was the last thing that she wanted to do when she got home from work, and yet, he would happily sit on the couch and watch the evening news while the dutiful “wife” fixed together a meal.
They ate at the small dining room table that she had found on the side of the road when she had first moved to Los Angeles. It was the only piece of furniture that she was allowed to keep in her nasty breakup with her ex and she was proud of it. She had even refinished the wood a couple of years ago to spruce it up and remove some of the association with her emotionally abusive ex-partner.
As they ate dinner together, her partner droned on about how the business was doing well and how he was considering hiring a new employee. She ate her food and nodded when appropriate, answered affirmatively when she felt like he needed to hear her encouragement.
She had this relationship down to a fucking science now.
She knew just what to do to make him smile, what to do to make him feel confident, what to do to make him feel secure and wanted. She also knew what made him tick, what made him furious – but she stayed far away from doing those things.
As the two of them completed their meal and their two dogs roamed underneath the table to pick up any errant crumbs, the woman stood and took both of their plates to the kitchen to wash up. Her partner resumed his usual position on the couch as she rinsed off the dishes and placed them in their dishwasher. They were lucky to have it, the last five Los Angeles apartments she had lived in hadn’t had one.
“Do you want to watch a movie with me?” her partner asked from the couch. “I found a new one - or - new-ish one. It has Dieter Bravo in it, I know how much you love him as an actor.”
“Oh?” she asked, her interest suddenly piqued.
For the first time all day she felt genuinely excited about something. She had always loved Dieter Bravo and made a conscious effort to watch just about everything he had ever been in.
She was slightly upset that this film has gotten past her radar and pulled her phone out to look the movie up to verify that her favorite actor was truly in the film.
“Yeah!” her partner said enthusiastically, picking up the TV remote. “It doesn’t have the best reviews, but I mean, what do reviewers know, right?”
“I don’t see how it can be bad if it has Dieter Bravo in it,” the woman agreed, joining her partner on the couch. “He makes anything he acts in good.”
Her partner laughed and navigated their smart TV to Netflix and then selected the film.
“Here,” he said. “You start it and I’ll make us some popcorn in the microwave.”
“No, no,” the woman said. “I’ll wait for you to come back before I start it.”
Her partner smiled and kissed her on the forehead. “Okay, baby. Sounds like a plan.”
“Sounds like a date,” she countered in an attempt to sound romantic.
She sat on the couch while her partner made them popcorn and placed the snack into their typical movie-watching snack bowl. As she waited for him, she surfed online looking for any other new Dieter Bravo releases. She was still kicking herself for forgetting about the release of this film and was desperately looking to see where the film had been promoted and announced online.
When her partner returned with their snack, she pressed play on the film and settled in for what she hoped was two hours of amazing Dieter Bravo content. Her partner slinked his arm around her, and she leaned into him, although with a little hesitation. Their dogs found their places on the couch as well and the whole family snuggled in for a snack and a movie before bed.
However, when she found herself watching the film, she found her crush on Dieter Bravo escalating. She loved his swagger and his looks and how he carried himself on screen.
As the two of them watched the movie, she started to look between her favorite actor and her partner and compare the two of them to each other.
It came as no surprise that Dieter was much more handsome than her partner. He was cute by LA standards, but not dreamy like Dieter Bravo was. She even toyed with the thought of watching this very film with Dieter Bravo instead of her partner and found that she much preferred that idea.
Was this cheating? She thought. Am I wanting to cheat on my partner?
No, she would never do that. Not after her experiences with her toxic ex and especially not with her partner’s history with his own terrible ex. But she was finding herself significantly more attracted to Dieter Bravo than she was to her partner. That was normal though, wasn’t it?
She tried her best to avoid thinking about it for the duration of the film, all the while her partner was kissing her cheeks and her forehead and hinting at wanting to turn the movie off and head to bed instead. He wasn’t a fan of the film, it was obvious, and it was starting to frustrate her.
She refused to pass judgment on the film for its actual quality. The movie had her favorite actor in it and that was all that mattered to her. Call her a bad film buff if you would like to, she had her preferences and Dieter Bravo was one of them.
Her partner’s hands roamed along her body igniting the fire of frustration within her. He was obviously trying to get busy and pass on the rest of the movie, but there was still another 30 minutes left in the film and she wanted to continue to watch.
“Hey!” she snapped. “I’m watching this.”
Upon seeing the hurt in his eyes at her harsh tone, she corrected herself and became the sweet girlfriend that he knew and loved.
“I’m sorry, baby,” she said, nuzzling up to him. “I am just really enjoying the movie is all. I really want to finish it before we go to bed.”
Her partner nodded and planted yet another loving kiss on her forehead that was starting to repulse her the more he did the loving action. Why couldn’t she be with Dieter Bravo? Why couldn’t she just be an actress and work with him and meet him? That is after all how she met her current partner, through her work.
As the movie continued, she started to pay attention to it less and less, instead fantasizing about meeting Dieter Bravo on the red carpet at the Oscars. She would be wearing a gorgeous black dress that complimented her raven hair and her makeup would be immaculate, done by one of the best celebrity makeup artists in LA. She would be up for an award, and he would congratulate her on her nomination. Maybe he would even grab her hand and kiss it when they met like the gentleman that he was. He was so sweet and charismatic; her life would never be boring if she were able to spend it with him.
“Are you falling asleep?” her partner asked her, shaking her shoulder gently.
The woman snapped out of her trance and the images of flashing camera lights and famous celebrities dressed to the nines slid away from her vision.
“What? No, I’m not falling asleep,” she said defensively.
Her partner smiled at her, and she couldn’t help but compare his less-than-perfect smile to Dieter’s.
“I mean, I only ask because you were closing your eyes and slumping over on me,” he said with a chuckle.
“Oh no, I was just uh…thinking about work,” she lied, trying to cover up her traitorous thoughts.
“Oh yeah? You never told me about your day,” her partner said, planting yet another affectionate kiss on her hair. “How was it?”
You never asked about it until now, she thought bitterly. Because you only care about me when it’s convenient.
Or did he? She couldn’t decide if that was a fair assessment or not with the level of lust that she was feeling for someone she had never even met in person before.
“It was great. The Encanto pastries I’ve been perfecting were picked up today. First tasting group and they decided to put them in Disneyland, DCA, and Magic Kingdom,” she reported.
Her partner shook her by the shoulders excitedly. “That’s amazing, baby! You’re so good at what you do. You always impress them so much with your work, you’re their best asset.”
She smiled at him without her teeth, unable to shake the feeling that he was only confirming the horrible doubts that she had about her career choice.
What would her partner say if she told him that she wanted to quit her job and try to become an actress again? He hadn’t been with her during her failed pursuits of acting in her twenties, but he was aware of how that time had gone in her life. Would he support her? Would he be horrified at the thought of them becoming a single income family in LA?
To be honest with herself, that thought horrified her too. But there was still something there, whether that flame within her had just been stoked by watching her number one crush appear on their TV screen or the dream really was her own, she still wanted to give it another shot.
These thoughts plagued her mind as she looked at him, unsure of how to respond to his compliments. Her heart panged with the dread that filled it. She was once madly in love with him, and she was also once in love with the life that they had created together.
In his eyes, she saw nothing but love and adoration for her in the way that he knew how to give her love, but his gaze only filled her with more uncertainty.
“Thank you,” she said, trying to fill her voice with genuine emotion. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” her partner said, leaning forward to kiss her.
The kiss was deep and passionate from his end, but she met him with terse lips and hesitation within her very soul.
Fighting back a grimace, she closed her eyes and imagined that she was kissing Dieter Bravo instead. Immediately, she felt her body relax and she found herself deepening the kiss.
Giddy and lovesick, she allowed herself to be led to their bedroom all while she pretended that her partner was a completely different man than he was and that she was a completely different woman.

M*A*S*H - Viewguide, S3
Are you interested in the long-running anti-war situation tragicomedy M*A*S*H (1972-1983), but there are simply so many asterisks and so many episodes?
Well I can’t help you with the asterisks, but nor can I help myself: I started watching all 11 seasons of M*A*S*H, and bringing back for you my viewing selections, chosen for The Qualities.
— — —
You should have seen me at Movie Madness pulling out the drawer for “TV: 1970s” and finding this complete stack of covers for all 11 seasons of M*A*S*H. Lost in the saaauuce.
But, amazing news: not only did I make the surprising discovery that what's on Hulu is clearly a restored and remastered version of the far crunchier material on the DVDs, but also that I DEEPLY prefer the original laugh track! It turns out, the laughter is the score. They’d cut to it like music. Without that melody it was built around everything felt so off, so eerily quiet.
Incidentally, over the recent holiday weekend I sang all of 1.75 non-chorus lines of ‘Suicide Is Painless’ in the kitchen and my dad just said, “MASH.” We then talked about all our faves while playing solitaire and drinking maple whiskey sours by the woodstove. Cannot believe I’m getting such a fond memory with my father from M*A*S*H but I’m not sure why, that seems right.
Here are my own suggested favorites from the third season, the last of an era!!! /weeping
M*A*S*H - Season 3 Recommended sequence
3x02 ‘Rainbow Bridge’ - It is amazing that the first episode of this season that aired was the first episode of this season that aired, as everything about the second episode, ‘Rainbow Bridge’, feels like the premiere of the third season of a service comedy (slowly turning dramedy). The 4077th get a message from the Chinese that they have nine wounded American GIs that need more medical help than they can offer, and give their coordinates 50 miles behind the line. “Could be a trap, Trap.” GREAT STUFF. And hey, Season 3? Someone’s upgraded the photography department! She’s moving, folks (the camera). They also keep cutting to Loudon Wainwright perched above the camp with his guitar singing some absurd song about Tokyo like every third scene transition. Why? Couldn’t tell ya. Except to repeat the first line.
3x03 ‘Officer of the Day’ - Henry’s away and Frank makes Hawkeye be Officer of the Day. I love that when he’s backed into a management position, Captain Pierce is actually rather good at it. Tired and clever and humane. It’s gonna sound odd, but he’s almost Lawful, just his code is nothing Army regulation, simply Do The Least Harm. He is a stickler on that. Also contains the best visual punchline I've seen yet. Simply burst out laughing.
3x04 'Iron Guts Kelly' - Margaret kills a general and is like, who would help me hide this body, and doesn’t even have to think about it. Cordially, [throwing a pillow in the face of me of the past] YOU DIDN’T KNOW WHAT YOU HAD, YOU DOSED UP LUNATIC.
3x05 ‘O.R.’ - Ha ha I COULD EAT MY OWN HAND.
100% in surgery, zero laugh track, which does forever prove The Power of Editing (!) as it runs so beautifully, no weird stilted silence like when you take it out later, and also I’m changed as a person. 10/10 I am gnawing.
3x06 'Springtime' - Update ‘Springtime’ an essential episode as writer & actor Mary Kay Place’s literal-literal self-insert M*A*S*H script in which she plays a hot nurse in glasses getting seduced by Radar O’Reilly. I am….obsessed with her. Also Klinger gets married!!!
3x08 ‘Life With Father’ - This one is ultimately a lil' silly sure, but I think I’m powerless to resist Radar, Father Mulcahy, and this young Korean mom moving Heaven & Earth to get a rabbi on the radio to walk them through performing a bris for her Jewish-Korean infant son. And that’s the A-plot, the B-plot is Hawkeye and Trapper are trying to complete a Hidden Picture to win a pony.
3x09 ‘Alcoholics Unanimous’ - I wasn’t going to include both alcoholism episodes, but this is such a good Margaret ep I couldn’t kick it out of bed. Loretta Swit is just so, so funny in this one. I was losing it. Even our impossible miscreants are like lol hang out with us! Favorite drunken scene yet, for sure for sure for sure for sure.
3x11 ‘Adam’s Rib’ - The fact that my dad spontaneously quoted a line from this episode to me, and not even one I would have thought particularly memorable, should alone earn it a spot on any recommendation list. But I too still find myself recalling multiple moments from this one. 'Adam's Rib'—it's gotta be on here!
3x13 ‘Mad Dogs and Servicemen’ - Oh you know I’m here for an episode where in the first minutes Trapper is going, “Frank, that’s straight out of World War I, no one thinks ‘shellshock’ anymore!” Tragically we don’t actually get to see psychiatrist Sidney Freedman, their one-time comedic antagonist turned professional pal and poker buddy (I love this...so much), but I did send a plot synopsis to my own pal Jen, doctor of psychology and practicing therapist, for the psych eval, and her full report is pending but the abstract indicates that hey, Sid’s c. 1950s therapy for their phantom paralysis case (currently probably called a conversion disorder) might be a plausible approach! Remains to be seen if it would be strictly necessary for Hawkeye to have to role-play as Betsy Tough Love to this kid and feel chewed up about it, but it does make for good TV.
3x15 'Bombed' - Everyone’s emotions are running VERY high in this episode, which just straight up opens with the camp being bombed all to hell. With ‘O.R.’ and ‘Aid Station’ as well this season, this fellow dramatic one ended up just missing the first edition of this list, but it’s important to be able to admit when you were wrong. Margaret & Trapper trapped in the supply shed…the bombs are not the only thing shaking me.
3x17 ‘The Consultant’ - This episode rules so, so hard. Love a sneaky cautionary taaaale! Definitely a far finer crafted story than ‘Alcoholics Anonymous’, but we’re including both for their various other appealing elements. Such as, here: a sublimely absurd interlude to a British camp where everyone is like “..Quite,” heavy bombardment, a scene with the trio in incredible swimming get-ups for the water tank pool Henry has made, tensely breathtaking surgery, and just a steady course of Alan Alda being rampantly bisexual in front of, across, and at one point directly to his own real life father. You love to can't believe you're seeing it.
3x18 ‘House Arrest’ - This one is sheer chaos and with an ending I don’t care for much, but the primary plot is Hawkeye & Trapper have possibly never been more dating. Really some peak absurd & precious ne'er-do-well pair behavior, and I just can’t keep this one from you, not here, not now..(!) I also quite like the bit with Radar & Klinger, and ultimately Hawkeye, having a moment of critical self-reflection on his own teasing. Damn Frank storyline, get out of here! Just give us more of the gang watching the new Gene Tierney picture.
3x19 ‘Aid Station’ - Literally cheered at the end of a Margaret monologue in this, a stand-out even before she and Hawkeye and Klinger are in the midst of actual hell together at the front, and work so hard & desperately and get so dear. Not to bandy about the term mutual respect, but Hawkeye bandies about the term mutual respect. Haha, [softly] help. Meanwhile, Trapper & Radar :’) & Henry :’) Second of two episodes this season, both of which I have very much included, where Colonel Blake has to make the decision to send some of his people to the front where they very much might die, and his heart just won’t rest until they’re back, which is always *primo.* Henryyy..!
This episode is M*A*S*H being funny and harrowing and sincere and really, really aware of humor as a way to try to shore against the loss of people you care about all in 25 minutes, which is why, in probably an even more dramatic move than any episode I’ve skipped yet: this is my Season 3 finale for you. This does goodbyes in wartime best this season, goofy, glorious, gutting, the whole cocktail. The ingredients are there in ‘Check-up’ and ‘Abyssinia, Henry’, but they haven’t been balanced in the shaker by as steady a hand as the ones that crafted ‘Aid Station’.
And you’ll learn what happened in the actual season finale at the beginning of Season 4, and as you should: just a few careful sentences with a pit beneath them, and in a moment when the loss has gotten even ❤️ worse.
Season 1 • Season 2 • Season 3 • To be continued

5, 12, and 21 for the end of the year asks?
(Note for tagged people: You’re mentioned in the answer for Question 21. Thanks again!)
5. most popular fic this year
My first DuckTales fanfic Indi-Quack! which not only turned one year old, but also reached a 1000 hits!! So thanks everyone for that!
In terms of kudos both Indi-Quack! and Home for the Holidays! are tied
12. favorite character to write about this year
I could very easily select any of my five favorite blorbos from the show: Della, Dewey, Fenton, Gandra, and Webby. Those five are always a blast to write for.
But I think I’m going to go and say Lena, mainly because she’s a character I always struggle with when writing for her but when I’m done I’m usually really happy with how she turns out
Look I’ll be honest, I’m not a teenage girl. I never was. I’m a He/They adult and whenever I write for a teenage girl I’m always afraid someone will comment “Yeah you could tell a dude wrote this.” And so far that hasn’t happened yet
Also, Lena was a big part of Rainbow Connections, a fic that is a bit angstier and a little less comedic than what I normally do for my fics; and I’m still really satisfied with how everything turned out in that one
21. most memorable comment/review
Kinda wanna pick two which coincidentally were posted on the same story which is Christmas Rapping! from Home for the Holidays!
First one comes from @thechaseofspades
Tumblr media
Mainly for the first paragraph but I do love his karaoke song choices.
Whenever I write DuckTales fanfics my number one concern is always how I write the characters. I want them to be like how they are on the show and I want to represent them. If I’m putting a character tag in my fic I always tell myself “Someone might click on this fic because that character is here. Get them right!”
Because everyone has a favorite character from the show and that favorite character could be anyone. And I’m sure we’ve all been there where we went to check out a fic only to find out our favorite blorbo is NOTHING like how the blorbo really is. It sucks. And I never want to do that
So usually whenever I write for a character I always rewatch episodes or random clips with certain characters to make sure I got them right. Most of the time I ask for second opinions from my beta readers (one of which is a big Louie fan. Whenever I write anything for Louie and need him to beta read I always say “Make sure I got Louie right!”)
And top of that, one of my favorite things about DuckTales is the characters and how they interact with one another. I remember going through every episode and enjoying every time the show threw a new dynamic between characters as it went on. They’re all so good! But we didn’t get all the characters interacting with one another cause Disney is a jerk that doesn’t understand how good this series is! (I didn’t watch the show till after it was cancelled but that’s beside the point) So in my fics I love to imagine what some dynamics would be between characters that should’ve interacted with one another on the show
So yeah, this comment really meant a lot to me! And it was posted on Christmas Day! (At least it was Christmas Day where I was. I was visiting my sister in Hawaii at the time and it was Christmas evening when I got the comment. So that is the cherry on top of this beautiful sundae.
As for the second comment I wanna talk about, it actually came from YOU, @tokuvivor
Tumblr media
First off, I’m really glad you thought it was fun! I wanted it to be fun! And yeah, I definitely think Della and Fenton would get along beautifully. They’re great. But what I want point out is the banter part
Honestly, no one has ever really commented specifically on the comedic banter in any of my stories and for the longest time I wasn’t sure if people enjoyed those moments as much as I do
So I love writing banter between characters but at the same time, it’s a big struggle for me and yet all of my stories are filled with just that. It’s strange when writing comedic banter it always feels like it’s either dragging on way too long or just filling up space which of course I don’t want to happen
Usually it’s not so bad when I take a step back from the writing process and read what I’ve written so far and that usually helps me decide if the conversation is dragging or going at the right speed and direction. But comedy is a very subjective thing, what I find funny might not be funny to someone else. So I’m glad you found it funny
On another note, this is also the first time I knew for sure someone liked how I wrote Gandra
So I already mentioned my favorite characters from DuckTales and I already feel pretty confident writing them cause I usually get comments about them, but I never really got any about Gandra
So yeah, I’m pretty insane when it comes to wondering if I got the characters right. I remember when I first got Kudos for Indi-Quack! from someone with a Louie profile pic who wrote a lot of Louie centric fics my immediate reaction was “Yes! I got Louie right!”
Shoot that reminds me that @christianfoxymc wrote this on the first entry in my series The Iron Duck of Steel: The Gizmoduck Movie, Part I! and it still makes me smile
Tumblr media
That story took me months to write and just knowing someone out there enjoyed it and thought this highly of it still makes me happy and not want to give up on this story

Chapter 4: Lavinia has entered the chat
Nico di Angelo is not miserable.
Will Solace is too tired for this shit.
The thing about Apollo is he's the definition of dramatic. He walked and talked like the world was his stage. As if he was the star in a show who broke the fourth wall, way too much. Will learned early on that he would forever be in the shadows of those like his father. He was born in the midst of greatness. His father was a man of many trades, his mother was a famous musician. His siblings possessed gifts that trusted them in the spotlight. Will was simply an average person surrounded by what people would refer to as main characters. Accepting his place on the sidelines became easy with time. He'd come to accept his casting as a side character. In his fathers story, his mothers, Kayla and Austin and even Nico's. They were simply some of the few in Will's life that the narrative was obviously about.
Nico is a superhero and all. Will wasn’t blind. He knew his casting. He was Nico's love interest, the son of celebrities, not to mention the doctor friend. He was like the one whose name was only remembered from that one backstory filler episode. He was okay with that. He'd been conditioned into acceptance.
It never really bothered him. Being the kid of celebrities meant he got a glimpse of the spotlight usually with the question 'What's it like being the son of Naomi Solace and Apollo?'  That was it. The question was answered and once it became apparent to the media that Will Solace wasn't a rising star they didn't bother with him. He wasn't worthy of a documentary or anything more than a footnote and minimalistic page on wiki.
Will's life wasn't a storybook. He'd grown up in Texas and later in life moved to Long Island where he attended school and summer camp. It was there he met most of his friends and of course Nico. They all bound over lack of one or more parents. Was it a surprise though? Statistics showed that people with the En gene were more likely to find it hard to settle down. Hades ran a max security prison filled with villains! Apollo was an actor, a musician, a doctor and not to mention an Olympic Archer. They didn't have much time for children.
Of course Will's father had put most of his focus in his Hospital as of late. Which had caused him to get a bit better at being…fatherly? Apollo was still extremely busy but every once in a while he'd make dinner reservations for him and a few of his children. He’d also taken to giving everyone a phone call every couple weeks. So of course it wasn't rare for Will's phone to ring out I'm Walking On Sunshine. A song his father found insulting.
"William there are plenty of better options for my designated ringtone! At least give me something by The Beatles or Alabama Shakes!"
Will never changed it. However, waking up to Katrina and The Waves made him wonder why he'd never considered it. Apollo always called at the worst times. More than once during intimate interactions with Nico and twice during an important meeting with Will's boss (in which his boss told him he hadn't been selected for the position). Will gave a fleeting glance to the time. It was barely six.  Will had fallen asleep hardly an hour prior. It had taken a while to follow Nico into sleep with Will's mind in shambles.
The phone buzzed angrily against Will's leg with a muffled "Woooah! And don't it feel good!" He had accidentally fallen asleep with it in his pocket. Which was a bummer considering it ultimately meant it was on the verge of death. Will fumbled for the cell pulling it to his face. The contact photo glared at him. It was a pic of them during graduation. Apollo had sunglasses despite the lack of sun and was holding a pen that he'd been using to sign autographs. Will was smiling wildly because just off camera Nico had shoved Percy in the campus fountain.
With a clumsy finger Will attempted to swipe right only to fail twice before successfully answering. The other end of the line crackled to life. Will could hear Apollo shouting something like a coffee order followed by a "And don't drink it this time!"
"Hello?" Will grumbled. He glanced to Nico's empty side of the bed and felt a wave of disappointment.
"William! How fast can you get downtown?" There was no greeting and the volume of Apollo's voice shook Will's throbbing brain.
Will sat up the bed creaking under his wait. He reached with a steady palm, digging his fingers into the disturbed sheets on Nicos side. They were still warm. Which meant Nico hadn’t been gone long. It wasn't comforting however considering that while Nico had gotten a few more hours of sleep than Will it hadn't been nearly enough.
"Good morning to you too dad," Will mutters dryly, "I've been great! How about you? How's Auntie Artemis?"
"Will as much as I love your sassy ass in the morning, we've got urgent business!" Apollo huffs, "how fast can you get here?"
"Where?"
"The hospital!"
"Your hospital?"
"Yes mine!" Apollo exclaims.
Will takes a minute letting his mind wrap around the conversation, "Why? What's wrong? Are you hurt? Is someone hurt?"
"I'm perfectly healthy!" He sounded externally offended, "Just ask my personal trainer! He's hot! Not as good looking as me but I'd lick mustard off his chest-"
"Dad!"
"-and it's a hospital. Will people don’t come here for tea though we do have an excellent Boba place ," Apollo states, "Oh, and I can literally see several hurt people in my peripheral-"
Suddenly Apollo was letting out a sympathetic hiss. Then he spoke to someone on his side.
"Oww! That looks painful! Last time I seen a nose that flatten it was 'he who shall not be named!'"
Whoever he spoke to didn't laugh but Apollo didn't seem deterred by it. Will raised his hand brushing the matted curls from his forehead before dragging his palm down his face. His eyes felt like they wanted to eject from his skull. With sluggish movement he kicked the comforter off him and moved to sit on the side of the bed. The curtains were drawn tight but Will didn’t need them open to know how the sun was currently not up!
"You're not answering the question," Will was not awake for this.
Apollo hummed, "I need your…talents!"
Will frowned, "Talents? What exactly is it that I can do that you can't?"
"Nothing…Well besides score an emo babe…"
"Daaaad!"
"But I need you for…well…it's more of a second opinion thing…it would be easier to show you," Apollo declares, "I expect you here in an hour or less…less is preferred!"
"You do know I don't work for you right?"
"That's really a mistake on your part," Apollo says, "don't be late!"
The call beeped out and Will sighed with it. He pulled the phone from his ear noting the dying battery. The red sliver of power taunted him.
"Bye! Love you Will!" Will said in his best Apollo impression.
Letting out several breaths through his nose Will reached to his nightstand. He let his fingers drift around the wooden surface blindly before noticing his phone cords absent. It took his tired mind several moments to process it must have fallen between the stand and the wall. Today was a fantastic start. He moved to stand cracking his back and rolling his shoulders. Then with little grace or delicacies Will tugged the table from the wall. The lamp rocked as he maneuvered it to reach for his charger. Catching the cord between his fingers he pulled up the end, nearly knocking the lamp completely off. It took way longer than necessary to plug his cell in. The connection was made successful by a resonating bing.
Will stood in place for several moments, his hazed brain asking the random early morning questions. How much caffeine could a human consume before death was imminent? Would he ever get a decent night's sleep? Could he get away with homicide? Would Apollos' powers stop him from being poisoned? How could Will get his hands of thallium? Can Google teach him how to lie properly? Would Nico help him hide the body or was that against his moral code being a superhero?
"Will, you can't murder your father," Will finally declared, "You'll go to prison and you won't do well in prison."
Not fully convinced of his reasoning he began towards his dresser. He wasted no time opening each drawer and pulling out an arrangement of attire. He hardly cared if it matched. In fact it was better it didn't. Apollo would be scandalized. The thought made him feel a little better but no less exhausted. He debated dressing in 'doctor dress code' only a moment before reminding himself he wasn't going to work…Not technically anyway. However, he was going to assist his father which basically translated to work or as Apollo called it 'bonding.'
Will quickly decided on a horrid orange t-shirt under a green plaid jacket. Then he opted for a pair of navy blue cargo shorts because it wasn't that cold yet. They were far from matching or appropriate which was just what he was going for. Then to top off everything he wore flip flops (the ones that earned their namesake with every step.)
Feeling a bit more awake (and less murderous) Will marched toward the bathroom to brush his teeth. To Will's surprise he found it occupied. Nico stood in the open doorway, a towel firm around his waist and hand reaching to flick off the light. He seemed startled to see Will. His dark eyes flickering all around Will as if he had a distinct outline. Water dripped from Nico's hair running down his face and torso. Will watched as a single bead streaked down the male's sharp features before gathering at his nose and dropping to the floor. Will was so focused on following the descent of water that when the silence was broken he leapt several inches back.
"You're up early," Nico comments, then he frowns his eyebrows looking Will up and down again, "You going somewhere?"
Before Will could form a response, Nico was taking a step to the side allowing entrance to the bathroom. Will slid past him quickly noting how Nico did his best to avoid possible skin contact. His boy arched pack like a cat who didn't want to be petted. Frowning Will took his place in front of the sink. His reflection glared back at him, tired and blotchy. Nico who stood slightly in the doorway met his eyes in the glass. Will couldn’t help but give the male a tired smile. Nico didn't return it but his eyes seemed softer.
The Italian looked as attractive as ever and Will was still too tired to be entertaining those thoughts. Then again maybe not. Will took a minute to pull his thoughts back on course, grabbing his yellow toothbrush out of the holder (a mandalorian coffee cup.)
"My dad called, he needs my talents," Will finally answers. He watched his boyfriend's face, prepping his toothbrush and shoving it into his mouth. He noted Nico had left the toothpaste cap off again.
Will had a flash of annoyance but it faded as Nico tilted his head (wasn't that just adorable). Then Nico asked, "What exactly is it that you can do that he can't?"
'Score and emo babe!'
"That's what I wanna know!" Will exclaims after spitting and rinsing away the rest of the minty paste. He quickly deposited his toothbrush. Then with inherited dramatic flare, he held up the toothpaste and made a show of securing the lid.
Nico only hummed, "He knows you don't work for him right?"
Will sighed, turning to face Nico and leaning slightly to rest against the sink, "He reminds me every time we talk!"
Will let his eyes drift to Nico's chest. It was strange he hadn't noticed before. Dark bruising some old and new. Colors of yellow, purple, green and red. It was nauseating and Will wondered why he hadn't detected it last night? Perhaps it was overshadowed by everything else. Maybe Will was just that exhausted. If his father expected his healing abilities Will could only hope he’d recharged enough to be of use.
"What happened to your chest?" He asked softly. Nico shifted slightly but didn't attempt to hide anything. There wasn't exactly a point Will had already seen.
"I was training new field recruits," Nico lied through his teeth with ease. It nearly made Will flinch. It made his heart ache with how easy it was for Nico to mislead.
The thing was that Will had done plenty of research. Including the most recent incident involving a certain Ghost King. Only three days prior there had been an incident with a local gang called the Cynocephali. They wore masks resembling that of dogs and they had managed to throw Nico through a brick wall among other things. The fresh bruising pattern made sense with the knowledge.
Will should just let it go, let Nico keep his secrets for now. However, Will really wanted to make Nico sweat. Who could blame him? Will could have a little fun right? Just to watch the Italian squirm?
"Huh…didn't know you trained recruits? I thought Chiron and Lupa would have someone else do it considering you and the team are so…busy?" Will says.
Nico blinked slightly. Will wanted to laugh at his surprise. In addition to researching The Ghost King and all relations he's also done some digging on HB. The more he'd read the more he began to remember things. Nico had mentioned small tidbits throughout the years. He'd made comments on different departments and people that Will had met fleetingly at one or two company Christmas parties. All of which were held off HB premises and had a bit more security than Will had thought necessary.
It must be a bit of a shock for Will remembering a fine detail. Chiron and Lupa held the evaluation and training progress. And that it was a delicate matter that only the leads such as Reyna dabbled in. It was more likely out of Nicos team Jason or Frank would be pulled in to assist with training (Nico and Percy had grumbled the unfairness of the other boys' security clearance more than once.)
Everyone Will had met employed there was cryptic about the agency workings. Not that Will had ever bothered pushing for an outline. Mainly because it was obvious how uncomfortable it made everyone. Leo got fidgety, Jason and Annabeth spoke from rehearsed lines and Nico simply shrugged it off. That being said, any amount of information Will was given was few and far between. It was easy for him to forget what he'd been told and for others to expect him to have forgotten.
So Nico's surprise wasn't unwarranted. Although Will had met Chiron on many occasions. Nico wouldn't think Will would know the man's actual job. Not to mention Will had never met Lupa. Which made Will wonder if anyone had ever mentioned her to him? The more he thought about it perhaps Jason had said something about her once. However, anything of importance he knew was from his recent google search.
"Uh..yeah…well we were short staffed and sometimes it's good to break away to get a better perspective," Nico declares smoothly, then he added,"Which reminds me that maybe it's time you 'break away'."
"What?" Will couldn’t help but fall into Nicos obvious escape goat. What was that boy talking about?

"You could always just accept your dads offer, break away from Epidaurus," Nico says suddenly, "You hate the emergency room…your abilities are wasted there! They only give you the minor cases! All you do is treat broken bones and hypochondriacs!"
"Okay Kelly Clarkson, that's not true! Last week I dug a battery out of an eleven year olds nose!" Will countered, "apparently their starting acid early."
Nico rolled his eyes which hurt. Will thought that was pretty funny, "You should have your own patients by now, you know an office and all that!"
"I'm not having this argument with you," Will groans, then because he was defensive adds, "And I don't hate the emergency room!"
Nico crosses his arms and his towel holds strong. Which was a disappointment, "Yes you do, the pay sucks and it's been years, they still treat you like you're just out of grad school."
"Nothing has opened up! I just gotta be patient!"
"Yeah there's nothing right now but how many times has a position opened up since you've been there?" Nico spats, "I'll tell you! Seven! and you've applied for all of them and like clockwork you come home and eat a family size pack of yellow oreos-"
"Golden oreos-"
"Because you're upset that once again you were denied and instead the position was given to a guy like fucking Jared the intern instead of you who has the talent and seniority!"
"First off Jared wasn't an intern he was a nursing assistant and secondly the positions are given to those who best fit its criteria and have the most experience!" Will was tired of having this argument.
The fight about Will's job was another dispute that had been getting more heated each time it came up. Nico always brought up the fucking oreos. As if it was the most dramatic thing Will did when he found out he'd been turned down. Nico never mentions that Will watched all the Star Wars movies and slowly destroyed his eleventh grade anatomy book as if it were a 'wreck this journal'. (He was down to the glossary now).
"Will you reattach an arm if that's not experience? I don't know what is! You are just as qualified as the rest of them, you have the schooling not to mention your gift," Nico states, "Which should qualify you even more!"
Will sighed, "It doesn’t…in fact it makes it even harder, being gifted with healing doesn't mean I have any more of a right to a better position than anyone else!"
"No, it doesn't but you've worked hard for your degree, you continue working hard everyday, you're an amazing doctor," Nico tells him, "With or without powers."
Will felt a flare of warmth and pride. Gods how he loved Nico di Angelo! It had been awhile since Nico had said something so nice to Will. They'd used to exchange words of praise like breaths. What had happened to that…to them?
"I wish people could see it that way…but you know how it is…if they gave me the position people would believe I only got it for my ability not because of my degree or experience…they'll look at it as favoritism or discrimination against mortal's!" Will explains, "People without a healing gift they'll feel cheated!"
"That's stupid…you can't help you were born with an advantage…and anyway they should be judging you on your skills outside of that," Nico counters, "how well you do stitches or whatever doctors do!"
Will couldn’t stop the laugh that escaped him. Nico truly had a way with words. The burst of giggles made him snort through his nose. When he finally could catch his breath Will took a step closer to his boyfriend.
"Nico…you're right," he says with finality, "I wish people could see it that way…but they don't…so it's best for me to be patient and wait…it'll all work out, I'll move up when management sees it right."
Nico slumped his lip pressing out into a pout. He eyed Will with a look of incredulous. It took several long minutes of silence before Nico seemed to come to terms with a response.
"I still think you should take up Apollo's offer…better hours…better pay… you deserve it!" Nico declares.
"I'm okay with my hours…and my pays fine we get by perfectly well," because Will couldn’t help himself, "I mean with all your overtime we shouldn't be struggling in the slightest."
Nico looked slightly nauseated, "It's not just about money Will, it's about how I'm tired of seeing you miserable and how angry it makes me that you let them get away with their bigotry!"
"Oh! And I guess I should just quit and go work for my father because it upsets you!"
"That's not what I said!" Nico grumbles, "Besides this is about how it upsets you!"
Will was too tired. It had barely been two days and he was about to lose it, "I told you I'm fine!"
"But you're not happy!"
"I'm helping people!" Will spats, "Sorry if it's not up to your standards!"
"What about helping yourself!" Nico demands, "You're so hypocritical about others being happy and doing what makes them happy the least you can do is take a chance and go for a job that'll not leave you miserable!"
"Oh! You're right Neeks here's an idea why don't I go work for HB! Since you're so adamant about me getting a new job, and you never come home miserable from your job and you never have complaints because it's so perfect!"
"No job is fucking perfect! Just because I like my job doesn't mean I don't have complaints!" Nico growls, "besides you wouldn't like it there!"
"How would you know? Maybe I would! I mean you spend more time there than at home. Maybe I wanna know what all the hype is about," Will spats, "Maybe I don't wanna be home either!"
"We're do you get these crazy ideas!" Nico's eyes looked wild, "What makes you think I don't wanna be home?"
"You're never here!"
"I'm here right now!"
"Not for long, it's been like six hours max since you got here?" Will mocked, "That's an awfully long time you might want to hurry back to work, wouldn't want to miss out on being miserable in the workplace!"
"Why are you like this!?" The shadows under Nico's eyes made him look crazed as he scowled. Will's stomach drops. He was adding fuel to a fire that neither wanted to burn but neither could put out, "What is wrong with you!?"
"Maybe if you were home every once in a while you might know!" Will cries, "Maybe if we actually talked we could get to the actual problem!"
"How can we talk when you do nothing but turn everything into a fight!" Nico hisses.
"Me!" Will exclaims, "I turn everything into a fight! That's bullshit and you know it!"
This wasn't helping Wills plan for tonight. They needed to talk about the hero thing. However, at this rate Nico wouldn't come home. The fight was giving him a reason to stay away. Nico looked between Will and the door.
"I don't have time for this right now," he says, "Don't you have to be getting to Apollo or something."
"I-" Will started his voice still too loud. He stopped pulling a deep breath through his nose. It didn't feel like enough oxygen to his pounding heart. He wanted to scream and maybe cry. Mostly slapping Nico felt like the right course of action.
However he didn't do that. Instead Will stood there counting his breaths until the heat on his face and ears faded to a soft burn. As the moments passed Will watched the look on Nico's face shifted from angry to bored. It was a look Will was beginning to take personally. What did he expect though? Nico couldn't very well look at Will like he was magnificent or super. Will was boring compared to what Nico saw and dealt with on the daily. Arguing with his boyfriend compared to fighting crazed villains? It must be like watching grass grow or paint dry.
Boring. Will had accepted that as a trait of himself. His siblings were amazing and his parents were famous. Nico and most of their friends were superheroes. What can Will expect being compared to any of them? He was just lucky they included him in their lives.
"You're self deprecating," Nico snips, "I can see it on your face…stop it."
Then with a finality Nico turned to their bedroom. Will let his eyes follow him, noting the harsher bruising along his back. Will wanted to make another comment. However, he couldn’t stand the thought of starting up the fight again or worse being lied to more. Nico had said he was training new recruits. At least the lies before this were closer to the truth. Nico's usual response was his injuries were due to an investigation gone wrong or a hazard of working with Percy Jackson and Jason Grace.
Nico usually never gave more than a fragment of a truth. When Will healed Nicos stab wound a few years back what had he told him?
"People don't like being arrested, Will."
"It's Tuesday , why are you arresting a Samaria on a Tuesday!?" Will growled, "Besides I thought you weren't a part of the apprehending of criminals!?"
 "I got promoted!"
"No you got stabbed! By a sword Nico! A sword! What is this Game of Thrones!?"
"If it is, can I be Jon Snow?"
"No!"
"You could be my Daenerys!"
"Ew! First incest and second that would make me a woman and your gay."
"I'd be bi for you."
Despite Will's worry and prying Nico had only insisted it was all a work related incident and  further details were classified. That was a word Will had grown to despise. Classified. Now that Will knew the truth ( mostly) he understood that was Nicos 'out' method to stop further questioning. Perhaps Nico used it to avoid making up a more in depth lie. Maybe the classified card made him feel less guilty. Stretching the truth was less guilt-inducing than flat out falsehoods. Or maybe Nico couldn't be bothered with wasting his time making a more thorough explanation. Why put effort into something when it wasn't warranted. What did Will expect when it was obvious how oblivious Nico thought him? It had taken this long for Will to even find out.
You must make it so easy for him to keep secrets, Will thought bitterly.
It made him angry. Which then made him feel stupid. He was making assumptions! He didn't know everything. He didn't know why Nico hadn’t told him. Maybe Nico was afraid. Terrified about all his untruths that it was easier to add to the pile instead of expunge it. Anyway wasn't it Will's fault for being so unheeding?
That all being said, Will now had to be the person to breach said pile of deception. If he keeps silently cursing his boyfriend they'll never be okay again. They'll constantly be this: Feuding and miserable. Will needs to encourage Nico to tell him everything. It was a delicate situation. Will couldn’t keep fueling his anger and whatever fire was currently burning.
"Nico…" Will says calmer than before, "I…just…do you know what time you'll be home?"
Will felt awkward asking; he made sure his voice held no agitation or suspicion. Most of all he hoped he didn't sound nervous. Moments before he had implied that Nico didn't wanna be home. To Will's relief Nico didn't stir back up that particular line.
Nico blinked, tilting his head and adjusting his towel slightly, "I don't know…late…"
Will felt his face flush for no reason other than nerves. He had decided he'd confront Nico tonight. He couldn’t back out, they needed to talk about everything. Before Will spatted out during a fight or something equally as horrid ('Like sex,' Cecil voice whispered in his skull.) Squaring his shoulders slightly Will gave his best reassuring smile.
"I…it's been awhile…since we just talked…and i've got a lot in my head..and ive..ive got something important I wanna talk about..tell you…and well…I don't wanna fight…I just…I'd like to talk," Will nearly facepalmed himself. He sounds like an idiot. So much for calm or nonchalant. He sounded like the definition of nervous.
Nico looked concerned and that was not what Will wanted. He didn't want to make him worry and he didn't want to make things uncomfortable before they actually needed to enter the area of discomfort.
"Is everything okay?" Nico asked softly then jokingly, "You're not pregnant are you?"
That lightened a bit of tension in Will's body. He let out a snort, "Oh no! You ruined the surprise! You're gonna be a father!"
It was Nicos turn to snort. They stand chuckling softly for several moments. It was nice. Like old times. It was also a bit disconcerting considering they'd been yelling at each other moments before. Naomi Solace would probably tell him that was a good thing but a couple therapist might say something else. Even so Will wished they could freeze time. It would be wonderful to simply live in this moment forever. Laughing…being happy. That however wasn't possible.
"Seriously though," Will says, "It's important but…nothing to worry about."
Nico nodded softly eyeing Will with something resembling uncertainty, "You sure? We can talk now, we've got time."
Panic.
They couldn't talk now! Nico was in a towel (which was hard to ignore or forget.) Besides, Will hadn’t thought about how to breach the subject. It was a lot to unload. Things wouldn't be the same after. Will wasn’t dumb enough not to realize how big a change this would insure. He wasn't ready, he might never be, and now wasn't the time.
"Oh…no, I mean I should really be going, you know how dad is!" Will didn’t actually care how long Apollo waited but it was a good excuse for the moment, "It's not urgent anyway it can wait!"
"Okay…if you're sure,"  Nico says, "I'll  try and be home as soon as I can."
Will began backing down the hall making his leave, "It's fine no rush I'll see you tonight!"
"Yeah," Nico replies, "See you…"
Will slammed the door behind him a bit too hard. The frame rattled and he had to stop himself from falling against it. The hall was completely empty and it seemed to remind Will how early it currently was. He winced praying they wouldn't get another noise complaint. Gods! Will had never thought they’d be those neighbors.
The journey down town was uneventful though the bus had to take the long way due to construction. The problem with living in an advanced human society meant that taxes went towards repairing the latest super show down instead of potholes. The street currently closed for work was the aftermath of The Mechanical Dragon taking on lanky from another mafia wannabe organization.
Will had treated seventeen patients with various burns (nothing life threatening) all who instead of following evacuation procedures, wanted to get the best story on their Iris accounts. That had been a hectic day.
Instead of the ride taking its usual twenty or so minutes it had taken well over an hour even in the moderate traffic of the late night-early morning. To Will's surprise he didn't hear his phone ring out Walking On Sunshine. Usually his father was impatient and normally would have blown up Will's cells with calls and messages. Demanding his whereabouts and what was exactly taking so long. So it was extremely out of character for Apollo to be radio silent. Will didn't question it, instead he spent the entire ride trying to stay awake. He mostly did so by listening to a phone conversation of a young gentleman who wore a Westport College baseball cap.
It was impolite to stare so Will gazed out the window as the male whispered harshly, "-This is your fault! None of this was supposed to happen!...I don't care…Liste-...No…I don't have time…Why? Because I gotta fix your mess!"
The man was silent then. Will could just make out the muffling sound of the voice on the other end. For amusement Will imagined perhaps this conversation was a lover quarrel. Maybe Will and Nico weren't the only ones disputing this early. Logically Will knew that statistically there were plenty of people fighting every minute of every day. Will knew he and Nico weren't the only ones in their own apartment building having disputes. However, he felt a little better witnessing a possible one.
"Here's an idea why don't you go get your favorite oral Oracle and I'll clean your mess and will get fucking Mcdonalds afterwards!"
The bus came to a stop shortly after the man abruptly ended his call. Will watched as the male stormed past his seat and out the door in silent fury. Will followed after him much slower, stopping long enough to say a farewell to the bus driver. He stepped onto the deserted sidewalk and noted that his drop off companion was already several strides away in the opposite direction of the hospital. Sadly or luckily depending on the view Will was alone.
The bus stop was less than two blocks from the hospital. Will took it at a slow pace. He was too tired to be efficient in his steps. Luckily the walk helped to wake him up. And if it hadn't done the complete job the descent to the hospital entrance sure did. Why did his father request so many stairs? It was like entering that one art museum. Maybe he should have entered on the other side of the building with the easy access ramps. However, by the time he began to regret It was too late for that. He was around half way there at that point. When he finally walked through the automatic doors he was sure he was gonna pass out.
Which was funny considering Will wasn’t out of shape by any means. He went to the gym sometimes and he played plenty of sports in his youth. However there was something about those stairs that got him every time! He did his best not to breathe so loud and heavy as he nodded to several women at the front desk.
Apollos Medical Hospital was unlike anything. The closest comparison was the Olympus building. Their similarities were no surprise considering Olympus was built by Zeus's (Apollo's father's). While Apollo's was a medical facility Olympus was basically like the Stark Industry or Wayne Enterprises, Inc (without a CEO Vigilante with dead parents). They specialize in everything from technology, to schooling, and even fashion. It was even rumored that the company also dealt heavily in political affairs but it was tight lipped. Everyone seemed to have some connection to the company. They own everything! So much so that Will was waiting for them to announce taking over Disney.
That being said Apollo being his fathers son of course had to one up the man. Which came in the form of my building is bigger than your building! Apollo even had Annabeth design it not even a month after she helped rebuild Olympus. The family feud/rivalry between Apollo and Zeus didn't seem to have a set date. Though it started no later than when Zeus kicked Apollo out the first time at the ripe age of fourteen. It grew and dispatched through the years going from small jabs to being cut from the Inheritance. Though you weren't part of Zues family unless you were disowned from it at least once.
The most recent fuel in the father son debacle was Apollo being kicked out of the Olympus Council. Which had been a big hit on Apollo's ego and the main gossip headline for several months. Currently Apollo was still chairless and had been for several years. That meant he did everything in his power to outshine his fathers company. With Apollos' focus currently residing in the medical field that was often in the form of refusing to endorse any related thing manufactured by Olympus.
With Will's father being an influencer in addition to having been a potential heir to the company the drama did wonders. Stocks had plummeted in the medical area. From what the News portrayed, Olympus development of musical instruments and tech had been put on hiatus. It was obvious as to why. Consequently it made the possibility of Apollo retaking his place on the council and line of succession slim. The knowledge would have once made Apollo weep. However, after the first year of pleading for Zeus to reconsider Apollo had wiped his hands of it all and decided to make his father regret it. Which truly is character development and Will couldn’t help being proud. Grandpa Zeus was a real asshole.
The best way to describe Apollo's Hospital in its white and gold regionalism was Greek- -with-a-bit-of-Roman-inspired-architecture-modernized. Will wasn’t Annabeth so it was the best he could do with explaining. High marble white pillars acted as support in and outside the building similar to the Parthenon. Statues of modern and old musicians' legends were portrayed as gods and goddesses. Taylor Swift, Shakira and Beyonce had recently carved marble figures. It was like a wax museum in some places. The elevator music consisted of songs from the Top 100 list. Overall the place was…its own entity. Beautiful and unique and cringy in all honesty.
Will marched towards the receptionist desk, his flip-flops squelching and plucking on sleek tiles. The atmosphere was too sunny for this time of morning. The bright LED lights glared from above. Will see black dots just from a simple glance up. He blinked rapidly trying to clear his vision. He was to have a word with his father about dimming his indoor solar flare.
Will was hardly three steps from the desk when his path was blocked. He was greeted by a pink-haired woman with a devilish glare. Unlike the receptionist in their professional doctoring attire, she was dressed in a horrid purple shirt with a picture of a cactus, paired with a pink and purple plaid skirt. Unlike Will she had appropriate footwear (black platforms) over her green socks.
"You're late!" She snapped and Will gave her a large smile. Or at least as big as he could manage. He was still catching his breath not to mention Will was the type of person who rose with the sun not before it! Sue him for not being peppy.
"Lavinia nice to see you," he offers.
Lavinia leaned to her left tilting her head as if analyzing a child. She crosses her arms and smacks the gum between her teeth as if she were about to scold him (or insult his livelihood.) Surprisingly she managed to hold her seriousness for several more seconds before launching in for a hug.
"You look atrocious!" Lavinia exclaims, looping her arms around Will's middle, "I missed you!"
She was around a head shorter than Will which meant he got a nose full of hair that smelled of lavender shampoo. They stood there embraced for only a few seconds before pulling away. Will knew Lavinia in a way he knew his neighbor two floors down. They could be considered friends but friendly acquaintance was more accurate. Lavinia Asimov gave tap dancing lessons at the local Muses Dance Center. Will only knew as much beach, it was there she'd broken her leg on three separate occasions. None of those times was directly correlated to dancing. Will didn't know the details but he had healed her on one of those instances. Despite Apollo doing it the other times she seemed to like Will best. After meeting her they'd crossed paths enough to get equated.
Lavinia and Will both preferred coffee at a small local shop. Not to mention she and Hazel were friends of sorts. Which meant Lavinia was familiar with Nico if only vaguely.
"What are you doing here?" Will wondered glancing for any visible injuries.
"Would you believe me if I said the kindness of my heart?" She says with the amount of dramatics that came from being around Apollo too long.
"No."
"No?" She faked being hurt before stating, "I needed extra cash and Apollo needed an assistant."
"What happened to Amy?" Will asked.
"Apollo happened…" that was all the answer Will needed.
As much as his father had grown as a person he could still be insufferable and needy. Apollo's antics could make one's head spin. The man was constantly being pulled in a million directions and while he could handle 'busy' and 'spontaneous' others couldn't. Not to mention the man himself was impulsive to the extent of being considered a lunatic. That alone was why Apollo went through assistance and agents like crazy. Being a man in many businesses meant he had more than one and in certain areas had whole teams. All of which rotated out like clockwork. People quitting, transferring, and even going as far as disappearing off the face of the earth.
"Sounds right!" Will say, "What exactly are you assisting? You don't have medical training,"
"Coffee runs mainly," She tells him, "You'd think your father would stop sending me when he realized I never brought him one back."
Will snickers, "He's a slow learner."
"Oh! And I do small mundane tasks, picking up dry cleaning, sorting through mail, making sure he knows his schedule and excitingly enough taking out the trash."
"Thought the janitorial team dealt with the trash?"
"Oh, not that trash, I assist with security!" Lavinia stood proudly. Then with a flourish she flashed something that looked like a hall monitor badge. Will took a moment to look intrigued before indicating she can put it away.
"That's…nice."
Lavinia didn't seem dissoluted from Will's lack of matched enthusiasm. If anything it seemed to increase her own. Perhaps Apollo had been sending her on too many coffee runs. Will kind of wished he'd had that amount of caffeine despite knowing how not good it was for anyone. Lavinia popped her gum as she glanced at her rhinestoned pink wrist watch.
Then without a word the brown eyed girl twirled in the direction of the elevators. Will noted several hospital occupants eyed her with caution as she strolled by them. Without being prompted Will began following her. Lavinia's shoes tapped in a constant rhythm like a pendulum swing. Each step was placed against the tile deliberately as if she were dancing. From behind Will could tell her short pink hair was freshly dyed (if her stained ears and neck were anything to go by.)
As they walked Will couldn’t help but think that Lavinia didn't seem like the type to be security. The last time they'd spoken he'd discovered she was a bit timid in confrontation. What has changed? Will let his mind ponder on the question for only a second. Quickly deciding he best not know. Look where questioning and wondering had gotten him! It seemed curiosity only encouraged complications. Will was tired of seeking answers and getting them. His luck Lavinia had joined a fight club and what was the first rule about fight club? Or she was a superhero! That seemed to be a likely deduction considering what Will was dealing with. Maybe he should interrogate Cecil and Lou. What was the likelihood that they (like everyone else it seemed) were keeping secret alternate egos!
Will was really tired.
"Apollo is surely peeved right now, he told you an hour and boss man has a tight schedule," Lavinia sings, "Ooh! You wanna stop by the cafeteria? They make the best omelets!"
"I thought you said we're on a tight schedule?"
"Us? No," She declares, "Your father? yes! And Will that's a Apollo problem!"
"As lovely as it sounds my father is enough to handle as it is," Will sighs, "I'd rather not add to his antics."
Following Lavinia's lead Will took time to note some of the oddities he'd previously overlooked. Firstly there were several nervous looking individuals. Their eyes flicked about seemingly to avoid staring. Will was gonna ask about it before he saw the caution tape blocking off one of the vast halls. Several security guards stood guard. They mostly looked bored waving people away if they got too close.
"What happened over there?" Will wondered.
Lavinia didn't falter in her steps, "Oh, it's kind of the reason you're here, there was an incident sometime late last night can't give much detail besides…it involved the shattering of all the windows in one of the east branch halls."
"Wow…that sucks.." Will said, "How many were hurt?"
"A nurse but it was a few cuts, Apollo healed her quickly," it was spoken with a finality that clearly underlined 'that's it! No more questions.'
However, Will was way too tired to register the whole moving on from it. Besides, he wanted to know why he was here, "Was it a Villain attack?"
Lavinia's eyebrow twitched. She slowed in step slightly, not fully turning her head to Will who'd managed to take up residence beside her opposed to trailing behind, "Yes…but not exactly…Apollo is more suited to explain…he was there."
The last part was whispered and extremely mumbled. So Apollo was in the hall when the windows were shattered? Interesting.
"Is he okay?"
She hummed as they entered one of the elevators, "Yes…though he might tell you otherwise…he's a bit dramatic you know!"
Will nodded in agreement. He watched Lavinia fidget with one of the many rings on her fingers. The doors slid shut unprompted and to Will's surprise Lavinia didn't reach to push the button for the top floor. Apollo's office was basically a hospital's version of a penthouse sweet. It was an open concept with more windows than necessary facing the perfect direction for every sunrise. It was where Will usually met his father. So it was a shock that Lavinia didn't press the thirteenth button at its lone point above the rest. Perhaps it was more surprising she didn't press any button at all. Instead she tugged at her badge that hung from a lanyard around her neck and waved in front of a small scanner.
It made no noise to indicate anything was scanned instead it jerked into motion. The elevator ride was smooth and quick as they went down. Will watched the numbers flash from the main floor to the basement levels. The music inside the small box was something from the Backstreet Boys. It bounced off the closed space rather joyfully for their obvious destination. There was only one reason they'd be going down. However it didn't really hit him until the elevators came to a stop. Immediately the blood seemed to drain from Will's body. He couldn’t seem to fully process it all.
Will's heart started to flutter and his palms began to sweat. Why was he being led down here? Why did his father need him again? His talents…a second opinion? Apollo couldn’t mean down here! He couldn’t just bring him here! Will wasn’t an Apollo employee. It didn't matter if Will was a doctor! He was still technically a civilian not to mention he didn't even have this amount of clearance at Epidaurus (where he was employed).
"I think you got the wrong floor," Will squeaked.
He had to try despite knowing it was unlikely. Nobody would have mistakenly brought anyone down here. Proving the idea preposterous Lavinia laughed. Like this was a comedic adventure! As if Will wasn't having a heart attack. Like they were about to step into the cafeteria sharing an inside joke. However, that couldn't be further from the truth. Their destination was nowhere close to over priced salads and they weren't in a movie with Will Farrell. They were entering the Area 51 of hospitals. The place that probably had more confidentiality papers than Nicos work.
The highly secured (secretive) floor was known mainly as The Hazardous Specimen Care Unit or simply (HSCU). It was the place hospital's used for their dangerous cases. The little Will understood was it was a floor of advanced isolation units. Designed specifically to contain people with the powers of an overly juiced half blood as well as victims to bizarre En gene incidences.
There was a famous incident Will could recall.  It was of a patient and her victims that were emitted into one of these special wards. The hospital that handled the case was never disclosed though the media managed to report the occurrence. The case involved a young woman whose gift allegedly allowed her to conjure cursed treasures. It has been documented that these riches caused anyone who came in contact with them to die. More specifically a 'cruel horrific fate'. The record had claimed the girl as well as a dozen civilians had been quarantined in the HSCU. Nothing was released about what became of the girl but it was revealed that all civilians had died. No one knew what happened to the bodies but families did come forth saying they'd only been able to identify their deceased by limited photographs. Said families buried empty caskets. The HalfBlood was never charged in face of a court instead the public was given the verdict that she'd been tried under the En Gene Act II. Many assumed she'd been placed into Tartarus.
The story did nothing to ease Will's worries. Will felt his mouth begin to water as his stomach lurched. The elevator stalled and the compartment lit up a haunting red. He watched as Lavinia used a biometric scanner. She placed two fingers on the screen which immediately lit up green. It was only then he'd noticed the music had stopped. It made everything all the more tense. Will Solace was a doctor, he was good at remaining calm and collected. Usually but not here. He shouldn't be allowed here. They were protocols and he didn't need to know what they entitled, to determine this wasn't it.
Will wouldn't say he was a stickler for rules (he was human after all.) However, he'd worked hard for this career, it was his calling. Nobody could blame him for taking it seriously in every way. He could get in trouble for this surely. He didn't have the authorization for a place like this! Also he didn't even work here!
 "Stand still," Lavinia instructed.
Will immediately went rigid. A large beam of light flashes like a Rollercoaster photo. Before he could blink away the black dots in his vision the doors were sliding open followed by a horn not unlike that of a forklift. Will could also recall how the place he was about to enter was said to be heavily armored with max security. It was the next best place before Tartarus and not unheard of for captured criminals to be held on these hospital floors until they could be properly transported. Will wondered if any Kronos equivalents were currently being held here.
As the sound of the siren tapered off and Will whispered, "Why are we here?"
Lavinia gave him a strange look, "Why are you whispering?"
"I…I don't know it seemed like the thing to do!"
"Well don't," she says, "and calm down Apollo will explain everything to the best of his abilities."
"That's even less comforting than you think."
Lavinia ignored him, proceeding to march forward like she owned the place. Will reluctantly followed wishing to be anywhere else. It must be serious…or maybe it was just Apollo's try at a practical joke. More likely it was Will's father giving a middle finger to rules and regulations.
"Rules are just suggestions…guidelines…like a coloring book!" Apollo had once explained, "Sure you can color in the lines but remember scribbling outside them doesn't obscure the intended picture."
"Are you encouraging me to break the law?!" Will had cried.
"No of course not that would be bad parenting!" Apollo insisted, "William honey I'm just saying it's okay to live a little! Skip class, miss curfew! It won't stop you from reaching your goals."
"Okay…"
"Just don't tell your mother I said that!"
Will shook the memory away, taking his time to look around. The elevator let off into a long stretch of hallway. Its expansion was only several yards from a set of heavy stainless steel doors. Two security guards stood armed on either side. Lavinia walked towards them without a single falter in her step. Will couldn’t help but shrink back. He felt his entire boy freeze.
What am I doing? His head screamed, Just turn around…go back up and wait.
He could demand Apollo speak with him upstairs. It was the safest (most sane) choice. He shouldn't be here. How dare his father request and or allow this! No! He needed more explanation and at least a statement from the law saying this was 'A' okay!
"Will," Lavinia said, pausing in her stride to look back at him, "Let's go."
Will blinked at her and wished for nothing more than to call Nico. His boyfriend would surely say something (reasonable?...comforting) about all this. Maybe he could at least tell Will that this was legal or something.
"I…Lavinia…It doesn’t matter if I'm Apollo's son or a doctor,"  Will hisses, " I shouldn't be here!"
Lavinia turned to face him completely. Her eyes seem to lose some of her previous energy. Her shoulders slumped and she began fiddling with her rings. Her mouth opened but closed quickly. Whatever she originally was gonna say was veto. Will watched as Lavinia seemed to work out an imaginary conversation in her head. She frowned her eyebrows and blinks excessively. It felt like hours before she finally responded.
"No you shouldn't," she declares, "but we're out of options, and Apollo believes you can help."
Will couldn’t help but laugh. He couldn’t stop himself from asking the big question of the day, "What exactly is it that I can do that he can't?"
Lavinia gave him a wistful smile, "I don't know," then she added, "nothing probably…but this may be a joint effort situation. "
"Lavinia…Something doesn't feel right."
"It's all okay Will there's nothing wrong!" Lavinia insists, "Just trust me okay."
Will deflate. He had the sense he should run, the urge to demand answers. However, maybe Lavinia wasn't the person he should be interrogating. It was Apollo who called him here, Lavinia was just doing her job escorting him. Gods was he crazy? Was he really about to continue forward?
Of course he was.
"Can you just tell me one thing?" Will asks.
"I can't say I can answer but sure, ask," Lavinia prompted.
Will took a breath looking behind Lavinia head ar the two guards. Neither one had moved an inch. They didn't appear to be concerned with either of them which still wasn't comforting.
"I'm assuming there's a patient…bad shape most likely," Will takes a breath, "If I don't go in…they'll die?"
Lavinia gave him a grave expression, "They'll probably die even if you do."

currents.13 /2023
selections from my week in media [26 march - 2 april 2023]
Tumblr media
[listening]
Inspiration & Knock on My Door / Onew - More Japanese releases to add to my playlist.
Limitless / ATEEZ - One of the first kpop albums I bought was their Japanese album. I had no idea who they were then I just loved the album. So it was a great surprise when this song dropped. I keep going back to it.
[reading]
Dinosaur Sanctuary vol 1-2 - I have a stack of comics thiiiiiis big that has been sitting unread for way too long. Seven Seas released vol 2 this month so I decided to start with dinosaurs. It’s so fun and I will be continuing with the series.
[watching]
Chains of Heart - I’m thinking so much about this show that I started making myself a timeline trying to keep the plot straight. After episode 7, the details are becoming more clear and I have theories. We also got some more beautiful flashback scenes. Each week, it just becomes more and more painfully clear how much Din is putting Ken through by not telling him he’s alive. Whether he is beholden to some entity that is keeping him quiet or whether he’s made the decision himself, it’s going to take a long time for Ken to trust him again. (This is assuming that Din is actually alive, whether he is Peter or is giving Peter his orders. But I’m pretty sure Peter is Din.)
K-pop Generation - Watched episode 7 (choreographer focused) and really enjoyed it. It was fascinating to hear and see the choreographers interviewed discuss their work and how the kpop system works from their perspective. Hoshi was a nice bonus.
Lockwood & Co - I went back and finished the second half. It got slightly better and I think I figured out why the show wasn’t as enjoyable as I expected. The soundtrack is extremely emo and low contrast. None of the songs enhanced the scenes they highlighted, and in general, brought the emotional tone and color of the show down quite a lot.
Our Dating Sim - I loved it. It had such a satisfying ending. That said, I would definitely watch another season or two of this team making video games and being cute. More detailed review here.
A Shoulder to Cry On - Overall, I liked this series, but it should have ended with episode 6. The epilogue was cute and it was nice to see them all couple-y but it was really unclear to me what their relationship status was. And since that was the whole point of the previous episode it felt odd not being sure. More detailed review here.
Unintentional Love Story, ep 5-6 - Eavesdropping never turns out well. Wonyoung learned that lesson this week. And we got a Ghost moment! I didn’t think they’d actually do it, but they did. And then the episode ended with a dead fish kiss, which considering how much chemistry the actors have it took me by surprise how bad that kiss was.

Kyle has his own way of doing things. For one, his charm which he was once slightly oblivious about was infamous. He has unintentionally wooed many people, both men and women, humanoids and humans off their feet, them swooning over everything about him from his smile his personality even his looks. And surely he was aware, looking back on it, that wooing Stanley wouldn’t be that different.
And, here’s the thing, Stanley simply shrugged and admitted he’d never actually been on a proper date.
“But-!” Kyle stared for a second, processing this information and looked dumbfounded. “But you’re cool!! You’re so nice and strong and-“ he went into a ramble flapping and waving his arms for emphasis.
Stanley who blushed, had laughed, delighted. “Kyle, who in Lady’s name would date me?”
Kyle hated when Stanley made points with all that has happened to them. So he promised himself he’d knock Stanley’s socks off. (Not literally of course! Humanoids don really need to wear any) He’d show him that he’ll appreciated and cared for and he’ll court him if he’ll have to if no one else will!
Then Stanley made the first move by presenting him a mixtape. An honest-to-Godred (thank goodness he’s wasn’t there to hear it’s..complicated) mixtape, mostly of Kyle’s favourite songs and a few Stan said “Just reminded me of you.” Stan, who hated pop and frequently teased Kyle for listening to them Made him a mixtape of his favorite songs. (Curse himself for loving all music) He’d listened to Kyle’s favorites, he put in songs that just made him think of Kyle, and a majority were love songs in Bengali, Hindi, and English.
And then- and then- Stan brought him flowers! Him! Stanley Baldwin!
Sure, Kyle brought him flowers too. A bonquet of all the flowers that reminded him of Stanley from his ruby eyes that he got roses to Gladiolus for his strength and bravery. He thought it was a really cute idea and had so much fun selecting them. When he went to pick Stan up for their date, his red flowers in hand, Stanley opened the door and revealed a bonquet of sunflowers and chrysanthemums in his hand too.
“Great minds think alike,” he quipped, kissing Kyle on the cheek. It was such a classic move, one Kyle would pull himself, that he couldn’t help but grin happily.
“Yeah,” he said, feeling oddly flustered yet very giddy inside heart hammering to his chest. “Guess we do.”
Not one to be outdone, he took Stan’s rugged hand and kissed his knuckles, delighting in Stanley’s blush. I’ve think I still got it, Kyle thought with a smile.
Still…Maybe it wouldn’t hurt to split the wooing evenly this time. Turns out, being on the other end was pretty fun too.
Notes Belowed:
Notes:
So uh yeah fic time!!
This would be humanoid au if Kyle lived au, from his episode they would’ve been much more happier so many things wouldn’t have happen like Kyle getting actual physical contact not dealing with the others spirits mainly Godred and Alfred bull crap, or Stanley having emotional support and shutting out the world
granted they’ll still have problems but in all the aus they’re go through it thick and thin and they’re very devoted loyal and supportive.
they are what I considered narrow guage togetherness since they’re literally 2x3 just switch it around. (Kyle is number 3 from his episode and Stan is kinda like Henry etc)
I got the pictures for the flowers and envelopes ✉️ from VectorStock which is very useful go check it’s out.

The Best Saturday Night Live Musical Performances Ever

The Best Saturday Night Live Musical Performances Ever
Tumblr media
Saturday Night Live has been a staple of the comedy community and pop culture for a long time, but it’s also had a great tradition of highlighting musical talent.
1.
Jack White (2020)
View this video on YouTube
NBC
After SNL canceled country singer Morgan Wallen’s show for violating COVID protocol, they scrambled to find a new act in time for the show. With two day’s notice, Jack White was finally selected and wound up putting on one of the greatest shows in SNL’s history.
NPR partially chalks this up to the fact that, since it was a last-minute get, White didn’t have anything to promote: “a veteran star without much to promote or prove, popping by with the sole objective of putting on the best show humanly possible.”
Another factor that makes this such a memorable show is that White honored Eddie Van Halen, the legendary guitarist who had recently passed at the time. That blue guitar he played with was custom designed by Halen and White.
As White says on his Instagram: “I thought it could be a nice gesture for me to use this blue Eddie Van Halen model guitar for one of the songs tonight on SNL. The guitar was designed by Eddie (with a few customizations I had added). Eddie was very kind to me and saw to it that this guitar was made for me to my specs. I won’t even insult the man’s talent by trying to play one of his songs tonight. Thanks again Eddie for this guitar and rest in peace sir.”
2.
Nirvana (1992)
View this video on YouTube
NBC
It’s easy to see why this Nirvana show is many people’s top pick for the greatest SNL gig of all time. Nirvana sounds incredible, with Cobain singing “Smells Like Teen Spirit” just as perfectly as he does on the famous MTV Unplugged set. Nirvana was huge by 1992, but it was still the first time many were exposed to the grunge band.
Not wanting people to get too comfy, Nirvana followed up “Teen Spirit” with “Territorial Pissings,” a song that wasn’t as radio-friendly. And ensuring no one would call them sellouts by appearing on SNL, they ended the show with Krist Novoselic tossing his bass guitar in the air, Dave Grohl slamming his drum onto the stage, piece by piece, and Kurt Cobain slamming his guitar into an amplifier to generate loud feedback. Chef’s kiss.
3.
Elvis Costello (1977)
View this video on YouTube
NBC
You can’t talk about SNL musical guests without talking about Elvis Costello. After being explicitly told by his record label and SNL showrunner, Lorne Michaels,  to not play his anti-media song, “Radio, Radio,” can you guess what Costello did? He did what any self-respecting rocker would and cut his first song short to switch to “Radio, Radio,” getting him banned from the show for 15 years.
It wound up working out for Costello because he was invited back for the show’s 25th-anniversary show to “interrupt” the Beastie Boys and play “Radio, Radio” once more.
4.
The Blues Brothers (1978)
View this video on YouTube
NBC
There have been plenty of cases where the host is also the musical guest on SNL, but the Blues Brothers are a rare case in which a sketch turned into a band. Initially appearing in a 1976 sketch, the Blues Brothers didn’t have their official debut until ’78. In a memorable first performance that led to a double-platinum album and a classic film, the Blues Brothers got their start on this episode 44 years ago.
5.
Kanye West (2013)
View this video on YouTube
NBC
SNL performances are often part of an artist’s promotion of a new album, and this was especially true for Ye’s 2013 show. Yeezus had intentionally minimal marketing. The only word people had gotten about the album before this show was a single tweet from Ye simply saying, “June Eighteen,” and video projections of the song “New Slaves” in various locations.
So when Ye performed “Black Skinhead” and “New Slaves” on SNL in May of 2013, it was the first taste of one of his best albums. Yeezus wouldn’t be released for another month, and the intense show on SNL was the perfect buildup to it.
6.
Simon & Garfunkel (1975)
7.
David Bowie (1979)
NBC
Bringing his signature surrealist style, David Bowie was joined on stage by Joey Arias and Klaus Nomi for his first performance on SNL. It was an important moment in terms of Bowie’s talent as a musician, but it also featured themes of non-traditional sexuality, as Hilton Als elaborates on in this New Yorker blurb:
“Like a lot of kids who came of age in the eighties, I watched the North Carolina native Joey Arias and his close friend Klaus Nomi, the late German-born performance artist, back David Bowie on Saturday Night Live while singing “TVC 15,” in December 1979. It was a seminal moment. There, on the small screen, was sexuality shown as a fluid, not fixed thing, and in such beautifully tailored costuming, too.”
8.
The White Stripes (2002)
View this video on YouTube
NBC
Introduced by John McCain (really), Meg and Jack White tear through their set with the group’s characteristic set up of just drums and lead guitar — and it’s perfect.
9.
Billie Eilish (2019)
View this video on YouTube
NBC
As “bad guy” was dominating the radio, Billie Eilish took to SNL and performed on a rotating stage that would make Lionel Richie and Christopher Nolan proud. The set is especially impressive considering it was built for just a single song on live television.
12.
Taylor Swift (2021)
View this video on YouTube
NBC
Returning for her fifth appearance as a musical guest, Taylor Swift shook up the formula of SNL. Instead of performing twice over the course of the show, she performed her entire 10-minute cut of “All Too Well” as her one song.
13.
Kendrick Lamar (2014)
View this video on YouTube
NBC
In between the release of good kid, m.A.A.d city, and To Pimp A Butterfly, Kendrick Lamar performed “i” and “Pay For It” on SNL. He was one of the biggest rappers in the world at the time, and was just at the start of showing people what he was capable of.
14.
Childish Gambino (2018)
17.
Haim (2013)
View this video on YouTube
NBC / youtube.com
Performing “The Wire” and “Don’t Save Me,” Haim’s appearance on SNL came shortly before they set off on a US tour. Este Haim said that the show was an emotional moment for her because a high school drama teacher had once said to her: “You’re never going to be on Saturday Night Live,” which is insulting but also oddly specific.
19.
Miley Cyrus (2020)
View this video on YouTube
NBC
In a special “Saturday Night Live At Home” performance, Miley Cyrus covered the iconic Pink Floyd song, “Wish You Were Here,” while sitting next to a fire. The song’s tender lyrics were especially profound in the middle of a pandemic that was keeping everyone isolated.
20.
Paul Simon & George Harrison (1976)
View this video on YouTube
NBC
Paul Simon is back, and this time with former Beatle, George Harrison. The two musicians, arguably in their prime, perform a beautiful acoustic version of “Here Comes the Sun.”
21.
The Rolling Stones (1978)
22.
Madonna (1993)
View this video on YouTube
NBC
Performing a cover of Peggy Lee’s “Fever” that would fit well in a nightclub, as well as “Bad Girl,” Madonna delivered a smooth performance in what has been her only musical appearance on the show.
24.
Tom Petty & Dave Grohl (1994)
25.
Paul McCartney (2010)
26.
Debbie Harry (1981)
View this video on YouTube
NBC
Debbie Harry (the lead singer of the group Blondie) served as both host and musical guest in this 1981 episode. We all know she can sing, but she also showed her comedy chops in the opening monologue alone.
27.
Rage Against the Machine (1996)
NBC
Steve Forbes was hosting this week in 1996, and needless to say, Rage Against the Machine aren’t the biggest fans of Republican billionaires. Legend has it that the band hung upside-down American flags onstage to protest Forbes, but producers took them down before the cameras started rolling.
28.
U2 (2004)
View this video on YouTube
NBC
U2 has been a huge band for a very long time, but that doesn’t mean every one of their albums has been a hit. At a time when they were going through a string of albums that weren’t exactly topping the Billboard, this performance that promoted How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb reminded everyone what makes U2 so good.
29.
Arcade Fire (2007)
NBC
With nine musicians on the stage, you can feel how full Arcade Fire’s sound is even through a video. Bringing plenty of energy, and with Win Butler sounding as good as he does on an album, the show can still give you chills 15 years later.
30.
Patti Smith (1976)
NBC
Performing a cover of The Who’s “My Generation” and “Gloria,” Patti Smith delivered a loud, brash, frenetic performance that not everyone appreciated at the time, but has stood as one of the great performances in SNL’s history.
31.
Lizzo (2019)
View this video on YouTube
NBC
Lizzo famously released her hit song “Truth Hurts” long before she became a household name. So it wasn’t until 2019, two full years after she released the song, that she performed it and “Good As Hell” on SNL in an amazing set.
32.
Chance The Rapper (2019)
NBC
Also serving as host, Chance performed “Zanies and Fools” and “Handsome” with some help from Megan Thee Stallion and adorable footage of his daughter.
33.
Coldplay (2019)
View this video on YouTube
NBC
With a unique opening that had frontman Chris Martin walking through the backstages of 30 Rock before coming onstage, Coldplay performed “Orphans” and “Everyday Life” in an incredibly memorable show.
34.
Harry Styles (2019)
View this video on YouTube
NBC
In performing “Lights Up” and his hit single, “Watermelon Sugar,” Styles brought the energy and charisma you’d expect from any one of his shows.

Stayc’s Sieun went on Lee Mujin Service! I never know when the episodes drop or who the guest is, so I’m always surprised when I see an idol I like haha. She did very well! I think she solidified her position as a solid main vocalist. In fact, in Stayc songs her voice can be very shout-y (and Mujin praised her for having a loud voice, actually), but her voice sounded very pleasant in all the songs she performed. I think her version of Beautiful Monster sounded prettier than the original - in particular, the chorus sounded cleaner and less “shrill”.
I didn’t love the songs she chose to cover, but I appreciated her selections. She chose old songs that she loves and they all had lovely lyrics. Usually, idols choose at least one popular English song - she did cover an English song but it wasn’t a very mainstream one. I just think her choices reflected her individuality and sentimentality. They felt very personal to her - like she treasured them - so I feel like I know her better now. It was also nice to hear her sing in a lighter voice (like a falsetto). She didn’t even choose songs with a lot of high notes (though she impressed me with that one note in the English song). I think her obvious weakness is that she doesn’t have a very pretty or soothing tone - plenty of weak vocalists have sweeter voices. As I was listening to her, I didn’t think her voice was super unique or angelic - two categories most idols fall into - but it was clear she loved to sing and could portray emotion very well. I felt like I could listen to her sing for hours... You could hear in her voice her love for the songs she chose, and her delivery was super solid, confident, and balanced. She sounded trustworthy - like you knew she wouldn’t fail you, because she’s 100% dedicated to singing and music, and communicating her emotions honestly. Her voice is super recognizable too, even if it’s not exactly unique.
Also, she’s a rookie but she has decent variety skills - she even asked Mujin to sing! Unrelated, but I really love that Mujin always talks about the idol’s singing technique - his observations are always unexpected, and it’s great to have an expert share how hard certain techniques are and to analyse the song from a different pov. He insisted Sieun had a great pitch lol. Their duet was nice too! I think this was one of the few times he was outshined. There’s just something so sincere and lovely about Sieun. She looks so sweet and bright, and she has a soothing and trustworthy aura. I really thought she was so sincere and open in her delivery - like she was laying out her heart for us.

Corey and Oats in..
Ysa’s Grand Finale Episode
Normally when you hear..’a very special episode’ when it comes to a tv show that means it’s going to be one episode about a serious topic and this story is going to follow that format. It all began on Wednesday, 29th March 2023. Everyone’s favorite microbe and equine duo were sad to hear that Ysa was leaving, Ysa had been the one to take them on many adventures and it was because of her that they started going on adventures to begin with and they wanted to do something special for her, they didn’t want to just go with something simple like a card or a poem, they wanted her to go out on the adventure of all adventures.
So they asked Mel for help, Mel went over into the bedroom and pulled out a magical item which she used to conjure up a special presentation, she asked Corey and Oats to set up a special tribute ceremony, which they did, they set up a special ‘dedication’ ceremony with a collection of videos and photos of their adventures with Ysa, as Mel called up Ysa and had Ysa come over to attend the ceremony.
The ceremony began with a dance party and a special feast and also a selection of treasured moments with Ysa which were played on a large 3d HD screen, and the microbes all thanked Ysa for her hard work and also for inspiring their adventures, Mel presented Ysa with an award for ‘Best Helper/Careworker’ and hugged her.
Oats gave a heartfelt speech about what their time as friends meant to him, he was very sad to her go but he wished her luck, as Corey also gave a speech before introducing a short film compilation of all the adventures they had with her, showing scenes from ‘Excellent Weta Adventure’ ‘Little Pop Shop Of Wonders’ ‘Case of the Animal Napper’ ‘Kingswood Halloween Ball’ ‘Life Aquatic With Corey and Oats’ ‘Oats: Equine Superstar’ ‘Fishtastic Fish Shop Adventure’ ‘Fantastic Voyage to Butterfly Creek’ ‘Misadventures in Parkgoing’ ‘Were-sona Paints’ and ‘Return to Weta Workshop’ along with numerous other adventures featuring her. Several of their friends from Kelly Tarlton’s, Weta Workshop Unleashed and Retrospace all gave speeches.
This was followed by Corey presenting a special video tribute to Ysa, explaining what she meant to him and also singing a special tribute song with Oats duetting. The duo performed a special magic act with Ysa, as Oats magically made a bouquet of flowers appear in front of her and he gave them to her as he thanked her for the hardwork.
Mel gave a speech about how she and Ysa first met and how their adventures started, and also she explained how much fun it was, and she also said while it may be uncertain who her replacement might be, she knew that wherever Ysa was going to, she was going to always be remembered.
“Don’t you worry about us, Ysa.”
“Yeah, no matter where you go, there you are.”
“Thank you, you’ve been the kindest of all friends.”
Oats gave Ysa a hug and Corey also hugged her, Ysa smiled as she accepted all the thanks and awards the duo presented her with, and she was glad to have been friends with such a loving koala-girl, a loving horse and a loving covid microbe. Corey explained that he knew this wasn’t the end, and that even though it was the end for her, it was just the beginning for them, whoever their new careworker and friend was going to be, they knew they’d bring something special of their own.
After the ceremony was over they all had snacks including some chocolate biscuits, and then an hour later they had dinner and they had nachos, after dinner they had a brief karaoke session and popcorn for a treat and they played around with glow sticks and had fun. The night wasn’t over right, as they all had fun together and had a lovely time.
“To Ysa, here’s for being such a great careworker and friend.”
“Amen to that.”
They had helped Ysa prep up her for her last days as a careworker and shown their appreciation for her, but their adventure wasn’t over yet though, they had a mini adventure before ending their karaoke night after the microphone needed recharging but they told their fans that they’d give them more…but for now, they went off on a mini-adventure before heading off to write a story that was a tribute to Ysa.
“Is there anything you’d like to say for tonight?”
‘Today’s very special story has been dedicated to Ysa, we hope all of you enjoyed the story and we hope that wherever Ysa goes, that she has lots of good fortune and joy and that she will always remember us, which she definitely will. We hope you all enjoyed this very special episode of our adventures…see you all next time for more adventures.’ Corey added, waving in the air as he made one last announcement.
“Good night to thou and thee!”
“And a good night to all our fans!”
And thus with that, this little adventure has sort of come to an end, but not entirely as there were several mini adventures to come after this and they will all be very fun and enjoyable for humans, microbes and unicorns of all ages and breeds and species. So remember, don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.
This very special story and edition of Corey and Oats’s adventures is dedicated to my helper and careworker Ysa, who I will most certainly miss when she leaves. I hope that this tribute gets noticed and people will enjoy it, without Ysa none of these adventures would be remotely possible, but I am sure that wherever she goes she will always think of me and think of the times we had.
Love from ‘Nathan Forester’, Oats, Mel, Corey and all the microbes and unicorns, from us…to Ysa. To Ysa, we hope your next journey will give you plenty of joy and enjoyment and that when you can, you can keep in contact with us.

The first half of tonight’s episode was inspired by a friend’s question and offer of a selection of “sad songs” she thought would make for good radio. I wasn’t familiar with any of the songs, which to our ears sound more melancholy than sad, but good nonetheless. The other half of the program is the usual mulligan stew of new and old, borrowed and blue..hankies optional.

Note
Everything about the 605 episode was such a BH subtext and it has way too many elements attached to them and that’s something that should (and most likely will) play out on Riverdale. BAs are unable to understand Jughead’s role or the deeper meaning of the episode because they’ve been living under a fantasy, most of them don’t even watch the show but rather watch selected clips on Twitter. I know that behind all that fake confidence over meaningless things such as Cole's interview and Evan (that they take as holy bible) they are secretly angry Archie wasn’t the hero (in neither Vale or Dale) and that the 5 episodes event they spent for weeks thinking it was to solidify their ship, ended up being shut down by every character, in a non so delicate matter, and once again BH remained the center plot.
yeah, actually i'd agree they're pretty mad that archie wasn't the hero of the episode and he's often not really the hero outside of what the other characters say about him. and i think they were pretty set on what they thought they were getting and what they got? not great.
and you know what? if i didn't get harassed by them so often, i would totally feel bad for them. imagine getting your ship together, having a baby, and getting married and then when you see it, it's half your ship helped kill the other, no baby, and then the wedding seems to be mostly motivated by archie trying to bring his dad back and then it's upstaged by another ship having a big emotional scene after making out on your fave's bed.
even the last two lyrical songs (outside of the bughead theme) that played during the last two bigger bughead interactions, both of which have an implied intimacy, have been lyrically similar with a provocative beat. and no, i'm not saying the songs have more meaning than what they are but i am saying that's a funny coincidence if it is one.
and that's before writer jughead had them in matching outfits before changing something to make sure that betty gets that phone call at the expense of riverdale jughead. can you imagine what they would say if their ship got that content?
so yeah, i think there's always been jealousy there with the content we get vs what they do. otherwise they wouldn't constantly try and make it a competition or compare (insert comparison is the thief of joy quote). i get a lot of "bughead doesn't have any major endgame moments" in my inbox and they're so angry about the scenes we like and enjoy and analyze that's it's like clearly those moments sting otherwise they wouldn't be living rent free in their heads 24/7.
but also probably that they're not getting any of the big declarations that other ships have gotten too. there's an intimacy to bughead and varchie that b/a (among others) just aren't getting written into their relationships. and if i had to guess, i'd say that's by design and the 100th episode did not dissuade me from that thought.

take your time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: min yoongi x reader fandom: bts warnings: / genre: fluff ; hints of angst word count: 1.2k+
summary: neither yoongi, nor you had expected the night to end like this. but this moment was yours, and yours alone.
a/n: I tweaked it a little, hope that’s okay my love <333
Tumblr media
This was everyone's dream that was a KPOP fan. Standing in this meeting hall with none other than BTS on the stage, holding an interview for a few selected fans and afterwards, you'd all have dinner, “not as fans, but as a family” is what they had advertised this as.
Yet, when the interview was done, you knew that you had absolutely no chance to meet them. The fans kept their distance, at least so that the boys wouldn't be super uncomfortable, but they were still swarmed. You couldn't even see them anymore once they got off the stage.
You knew you should have just given this ticket to your friend. They were way more outgoing than you were and would have done everything in their power to at least talk to them once.
But you weren't that. You were waiting in the back for a little while, just to see if it got a little better.
It didn't.
If anything, it got worse over time.
“Excuse me,” you approached one of the security guards, “Is there any place I could go to for some fresh air?”
“Sure, just take the elevator up, the rooftop lounge is open to all visitors.”
A rooftop lounge. Man, BigHit was so fancy.
Nevertheless, you were glad for it, because once the cold air finally hit your face, it felt like your drained energy was slowly coming back.
A small smile spread on your face when you saw the view, taking a few more steps towards the railing until you could lean against it, the smile then turning into a grin.
If you had been working here, you would never ever leave this lounge. This view was glorious. Would probably look just as great in the morning, when the sun was coming up. But with all the lights from the buildings, it looked magical right now.
“So... you found my hiding spot,” the voice made you jump, then turn around and bow deeply when you realized who it was.
“I'm... so sorry. I didn't know that this was your...-”
Yoongi chuckled and shook his head, “Not like I own this place. If I did, though, I would make this my private area.”
That sentence made it clear that he wanted you to leave and unlike the others down at the party, you didn't want him to be uncomfortable, so you rushed past him and wanted to do just that, but just before you stepped back into the building, you heard Yoongi let out a sigh.
“Sorry... I didn't mean to be rude. You can... stay, I guess.”
“No, it's fine,” you laughed uncomfortably, “I'll just leave you on your own. I'm sure you need the silence more than me.”
Yoongi looked at you for a long time and it was only then that you realized you were talking to Min Yoongi, the Min Yoongi, completely on your own. Nobody else around.
Just you and him.
Jeez, he was so mindblowingly handsome.
“Stay. After all, this event is held for you.”
“For fans. Not specifically for me,” but you let go of the door. Not that you were moving towards him, though.
“Aren't you a fan?” he sat down on one of the benches and pulled out his phone.
“I am... but...”
“But you're not like them?” he looked at you from under his eyelashes, both of you laughing at that.
“I'm not that naive,” you eyed the spot next to him and waited for him to nod, before you finally sat down too, but at the very edge of the bench, so that you still kept quite a lot of distance to him, “Just not a party person.”
“Same,” Yoongi chuckled and turned his head to look at the same view that you had just admired, “I go up here every time there is one.”
You leaned back, and nodded, “I would too, with this view.”
Yoongi became quiet for a moment, but to your surprise, it wasn't an uncomfortable silence. If anything, it was what you both needed. Quiet and peace.
Still, you couldn't help but study him, now that he was so close to you.
This was such a coincidence. How was this real, how was he sitting right here next to you, talking to you?
But because he was so close to you, you could tell that he was exhausted. That his social battery had run out as much as yours. That was the perk of being an introvert. You could easily spot another one.
“Hey, you like anime?” you asked, seemingly so randomly, that Yoongi let out a snort.
“What?”
“Anime. Do you watch it?” you pulled out your phone, but made sure that you kept it on your lap where he could see everything you were doing. Just so he knew you weren't taking any pictures or were recording anything.
Again, not wanting to make him uncomfortable.
“Uh.. sure?”
“Well... every time I need a pick-me-up, I go back into old Naruto episodes and just watch them again. They always make me smile and remind me that I'll be back home in my bed soon, where I can just continue watching them.”
You didn't see it, but Yoongi's eyes weren't on your phone anymore, but on you.
At first, he was surprised, but then a soft smile spread on his face and he only averted his gaze when you caught him staring.
“You want to watch Naruto with me? You get some alone time with Min Yoongi and instead of asking me intimate questions, you want to stay quiet and watch an anime?”
“Right now, you're not Min Yoongi and I'm not a fan. We're both just two people who need a break.”
That made Yoongi's heart swell, the smile on his face returning, “Will you at least tell me your name, fan?”
You considered it for a moment, then you shook your head, “Let's just... enjoy this. You won't see me again after this night, so no point in making too many memories, right?”
Your blunt answer made him speechless. You didn't look sad about it, though. In fact, once the theme song for Naruto came on, you just started grinning and even hummed to it.
You looked... happy. You didn't care anymore that he was sitting next to you, or at least not, that he was Min Yoongi.
Part of him wanted to know more about you, your name, what you were even doing at an event like this, where you lived, what your job was... but he knew you were rational before. He would never see you again after tonight.
No point in making memories.
“Alright, fan. Let's watch some Naruto,” he let out heavy sigh, but then smiled, “This is one of my favorite episodes, by the way.”
“Oh my god, seriously? I absolutely LOVE this episode!”
The two of you continued talking, but only about Naruto. Nothing personal was exchanged, you both just realized how much the other one loved anime.
You only watched one episode, that was all the time that you had with each other. But every second of it was precious.
And when Yoongi was later asked where he had been, he just smiled happily and said: “Just watched some Naruto.”
He wouldn't let anyone in on this little moment between you two. He didn't know who you were, but he hoped that you knew how much this night had meant to him. Because you showed him that it's okay not to be okay every now and again. What matters is that you try to get back up on your feet again and find something, that will pull you up.
And so whenever Yoongi needed a break, he would pull out his phone and start that specific episode that he watched with you that night.
Maybe he'd see you again one day. Then, he'd like to thank you and finally get to know your name.

Chan’s Room
Mae guest stars on Chan’s vlive
Tumblr media
Chan plays Gone Days as usual as he starts up another episode
As fans trickled in, they could see his eyes occasionally dart to the side before looking back on screen, clearing trying to ignore whoever is with him
@/staynotstray: omg does he have a guest with him?
@/yooooooh: CHAN WHO IS IT
@/lostkid: IS IT ANOTHER MEMBER
Chan tried to hide his laughter as fans continued to spam the chat with guesses.
Lowering the volume of the music, Chan turned back to the camera and gave a smile
C:“ Hi everyone, how are you all doing? Did you eat?”
Looking at the chat on his phone, he completely ignored the questions about the person off screen, reading other comments instead
C:“Wah! Chicken? I’m jealous. I had kimchi jiggae with the members today.”
In the background, someone walked past him, head covered and picked up a water bottle before walking back off screen
@/staylight: wHO???
@/yongbokie: IS THAT A GIRL
@/rainbow: SOMEONES BEHIND YOU
C: “Someone’s behind me? Stay you aren’t tricking me that easily.”
A giggle was heard in the background as someone saw all the comments that, it wasn’t a trick, before they quickly covered their mouth
“Wow, you guys are acting really weird today.” Chan said, before a hand appeared to take his phone from him
Chan continued on, talking about random things and playing a song before the comments finally got too much and he burst into laughter
C: “Okay Okay! Seems like you all got enough of me pretending!”
Chan laughed before going on his computer to change the song
C: “To be honest, I never thought I’d be able to have this guest with me today, because of how complicated it would be and our schedules, but luckily we were allowed! Chan’s room first!”
Chan searched through YouTube and selected the first song
C: “Come out please!”
The comments exploded when Hot Sauce played and a shy Mae appeared on screen, briefly dancing the intro before sitting down next to Chan
M: “To the world, yeogi NCT! Hello, NCT’s Mae~”
M: “Stay hello~”
@/NCTinD9: AM I DREAMING
@/skznctcore: THE SIMULATION IS GLITCHING
@/stayzennie: SM AND JYPE ALLOWED THIS?!?!?
Mae giggled as she saw the comments rush in once she appeared
C: How are you doing Mae sshi?
M: I’m doing okay, how about you Chan sshi?”
C: It’s been a good day
Chan quickly lowered the volume of the song so they could be heard properly
The two smiled when they saw how excited everyone was when Mae joined the live
M: I hope stays don’t mind me joining the live today! We worked hard to make this happen
Everyone quickly asked questions for Mae ( which she gladly answered) like what’s her favorite skz song (Gods Menu), who her skz bias is (Felix) and other
C: Yah! Am I not your favorite?!
M: Chan oppa you’re great but I met Felix first and he’s also a 00liner!
C: [A pause] Okay, thank you for coming Mae!
M: Oppa!!!!
@/shininggem: see what happens when you let these idols become friends
M: It’s a blessing and a curse that I became friends with skz
@/stayville: what’s it like being Chan’s friend?
M: He’s such a dad I feel like I gained another parental figure or big brother?
C: Don’t you already have like 23 people looking after you?
M: With you it adds up to 24!!!!!
C: I didn’t sign up for this!
M: Too late now~
@/channie: the sibling dynamic i didn’t know i wanted til now
@/8forLife: how does Mae keep gaining ppl to take care of her it’s concerning-
@/mae4life: and why am i not suprised????
To end the live, Chan played Dive Into You, letting everyone vibe to it while
@/makeV: omg are they gonna do the pose together
@/stayzen: they’re so cute wtf
C: Anything you wanna say before we go?
M: Please give NCT and SKZ lots of love!”
C: Thank you for coming!
The two did Chan’s ending pose before Chan moved to end the broadcast, Mae laughing beside him

Drastic Measures- Part 5
@daminette-december2019-2020
~Sweater~
Shoves romance to the side and shoves friendship in your face!!!

----------
“Marinette,” Adrien whines as she opens the curtain the second they get back, “Sleep,”
“Just a minute, I want to design Damian something,” Marinette takes up residence at the desk, throwing open her sketchbook, “I will be friends with him!”
“Wasn't he kind of a jerk to you?” Adrien flops onto the bed, Plagg rig after him, "I think we should go back to that point, maybe sleep on it,"
“You were a jerk too~” Marinette sing-songs finishing up a rough sketch of a sweater.
“I was trying to get the gum off your seat!” Adrien slams his hands down.
“Sure you were~”
“Mariiiiiii,” Adrien collapses back into the bed covers, muffling his whining.
“Come on you,” Marinette collects her sketchbook, “Come get material with me,”
“No, it’s time to sleep,”
“It’s midday,”
“Your point?”
"Ok, Plagg 2.0 should I get you some camembert while I'm out too?"
"I'm up!" Adrien sits bolt upright, "Never call me that again,"
Marinette ends up dragging Adrien out of the mansion he pouts as Alfred delivers them into the city she thanks him profusely.
“We were just in the city why didn’t you pick up fabric then?” Adrien walks by her side down the street.
“Because I’m stuck between 2 concepts and I need to see the fabric before going forward,” Marinette bounces along looking through the windows there are quite a few craft shops in the area which suits her just fine.
“Please don’t run off,” Adrien gently holds her sleeve, “Marinette this city…”
“It’s filled with a dark energy,” Marinette agrees, even in this nicer area had something ominous hanging over it, “It’s like it’s seeped into the city’s very bones,”
“And the Akuma aren’t helping things,” A child across the street starts crying and they both instinctively lookout.
“On the plus side at least hawkmoth doesn't send Akuma after every little thing,” Marinette forces herself to relax, moving on as the kids parents comfort them.
“On the downside, he sends them after emotions that are a lot worse,” Adrien follows along into a store as Marinette filters through the shelves.
“Maybe but we can handle this,” Marinette absent-mindedly raises her fist, meeting Adreins, “Do you think I should make something for everyone, you know as a thank you?”
“I haven't gotten them anything,” Adrien takes the armful of fabric Marinette passes him as she brings out her sketchbook to select old designs.
“I’ll handle the making,” Marinette ticks off a vest she thinks with be perfect for Bruce, “And you handle the finances,”
“I stole my father's credit card,” Adrien says with a grin, “He’ll probably find out where I am soon anyway so might as well start using it,”
“In that case,” Marinette pulls out a roll of incredibly expensive fabric, “We also need new phones,”
“And we should go out for lunch,”
“Get our hair done?” Marinette adds, looking at her half hacked off hair “I still need to fix mine from this,”
“I was thinking our room could use a chair?”
“And the bookshelf is looking a bit empty,”
“A nice expensive rug would really liven up the room,”
“Would it be completely inappropriate to get a motorcycle?”
“Yes,” Adrien agrees, “Let's do it,”
They stop to get new phones first, having destroyed their old ones when they ran away. Adrien finds the most expensive restaurant in town, but it's on the far end so they stop to get a motorcycle first.
“I didn’t know you could ride,” Adrien gestures for the waiter in their private room, “Yes can I please have the duck?”
“My Nona taught me,” Marinette sips at the most expensive drink she can legally buy, “I thought you hated duck?”
“Oh I do,” Adrien grins, which drops when his phone starts ringing, “How did he even get this number?”
Marinette looks over his shoulder to see Gabriel trying to call. Adrien purposefully hangs up rolling his eyes.
“We should go do our hair next,” Adrien leans over the table with a manic grin, ”I was thinking of dying it hot pink,”
“Love the concept,” Marinette cringes at the very thought, “But the execution is flawed, you need to dye it a color you actually like not one just to spite your father otherwise he's still just controlling your life, just in a different way,”
“You're right,” Adrien sighs leaning back examining his blonde locks, “What do you think?”
“A nice pastel or cherry blossom pink would look amazing,” Adrien perks up at the suggestion he can still keep the pink, “Actually I might do that too- oh wait! Will that affect our transformation?”
“Not unless you really want to deep down,” Tikki explains, her and Plagg gorging themselves on expensive cheese and treats.
“Well deep down I really don't want to give away our identities like this,”
“It’s a plan then,” Adrien smiles, “Now do you want to order anything else?”
“Thanks but I’m full,”
“What's that got to do with anything?”
 ---
“Looks great Nette,” Adrien gives her a side hug, the hairdresser shooing him away while he does the final touch-ups.
“Are you talking to me or yourself?” Marinette smiles at the new and improved shock of pink hair.
“Well obviously I look fabulous, but you look great too,” Marinette rolls her eyes at him looking back in the mirror. Instead of evening out her hair, they had made it look like her little episode was actually intentional giving it nice layers and even doing an undercut on the other side. Unlike Adrien, she didn't go all pink, instead the tips being white ombre up to pink and then her natural hair color.
“Thanks, you have to send a picture of your hair to Nino he's more invested in your teenage rebellion than you are, he’s probably also hurt you left him out of the running away part,”
“He has suggested, more than once, running away together,”
“Why what's wrong with Nino's family?”
“Nothing at all,” Adrien quickly covers, “I think he just really wanted me to run away, his mum offered to pack us lunches,”
“Well, maybe we could have used the turtle,” Marinette sighs, “But I could do that to Nino, you already had to leave Kagami behind, have you given her a call yet?”
“Oh um, about that-" Adrien points at her tapping his chin thoughtfully, "Never mention it again,”
“Adrien,” Marinette scowls, “Call your girlfriend,”
“She’ll kill me,” Adrien hides partly behind a seat looking meek, “Also you don't get to lecture me, you haven't called your parents,”
“That's different,” Marinette groans sinking into the seat, only to get told off for moving, “They’ll want me to come home, how am I supposed to explain that I can’t,”
“They’re your parents,” Adrien stresses, “I’m sure they’ll be happy enough to know your ok,”
“Maybe,” Marinette hums, the cloth being removed from her shoulders letting her get up, “I just feel so bad for putting them through this,”
“Maybe one day they’ll understand,” Adrien walks with her to the front to pay.
“Maybe,” Marinette looks down at the bill, “Wow this is a lot more expensive than the usual dye job,”
Made sense because they were in the higher income distinct of the city.
“Why Marinette,” Adrien grins swiping the card, “That's the point,”
Ten minutes later they were laughing as calls kept pouring in one after the other. They are only interrupted when they get the distinct feeling of an Akuma.
“Duty calls,” Adrien sighs putting his phone on silent.
“Seems so, at least we can call out skills multiple times," Marinette walks casually into an alley with him, “What are you up to?”
“About three,” Adrien shrugs transforming, “It takes about double the time for the transformation to drop now,”
“Same, wish I could say that gives us the edge but really it only keeps us from falling off the cliff,” Marinette also transforms, her new costume bringing a smile to her face.
“How eloquent my lady,” Marinette playfully pushes him, Chat catches himself catapulting over the building, she quickly follows behind.
The Akuma is standard, Marinette guesses the akumatized item is the wrist watch. The problem comes with their recurring thorn in her side.
“Ladybug-”
“Get out of the city,” She cuts Batman off, “Yeah, yeah let us handle this first,”
Marinette throws her yoyo out just in time to deflect an attack headed at Chat.
“Do you need any help?” Robin asks, Marinette smiles, partly at the aghast face Batman makes.
“Do you think you could tag-team it with me?” She asks formulating a plan, with the extra help she might not need the lucky charm, “Make your attacks big and draw his attention, grab the wristwatch if you can,”
“On it,” Robin gives her a nod jumping into the fray, Ladybug doesn't give batman a chance to object running after.
Robin does a good job they work in perfect sync falling back when the other moves to make an attack. When the Akuma focuses on them too much Chat swoops in and gets their attention giving them the chance to swipe at the wristwatch. It goes on she sees Robin get thrown back after another failed swipe at the wristwatch. Ladybug takes the chance to move forward grabbing for the wrist, she isn't watching out for the other arm, the impact hitting and sending her flying back.
“I got you,” Her momentum is stopped by a hand bracing at her back, saving her from crashing into the adjacent building.
“Thanks, Robin,” He helps steady her as she finds her footing again, “I’ll move in you follow me up,”
“No need,” He smirks brandishing the watch.
“You did it,” Ladybug beams, taking the watch and smashing it to the ground, “Great job!”
“Ah, thanks,” Ladybug doesn't pay attention to how Robin brushes, focusing on purifying the Akuma and fixing the damage.
“We made a pretty good team,” Ladybug turns to Robin when everything is settled, “Pound it,”
Robin meets her fist with some hesitance, which disappears when she smiles at him again.
“Ladybug!” Batman yells heading their way.
“Ops sorry,” Ladybug cringes, “Sorry! Cant stop gotta go, bye bye!”
They run from the scene faster than Batman can hope to catch them. They end up back at her newly brought bike stacked with fabric and protected by a bit of luck. Marinette races home to make everyone's gifts, knowing just who she wanted to start with.
 ---
“There you are!” Marinette exclaims, having spent the past half hour searching the manor for him.
“What do you want?” Damian snaps as if he wasn't just playing with the cat on the floor half a second ago.
“Nothing, I made something for you~” He continues to scowl but Marinette doesn't let it discourage her, “Here, I didn’t know your size so I made a baggier style, do you like it?”
Damian takes the sweater holding it up to where she put it on him looking down a little shocked. Marinette almost wants to laugh at the expressions trying to shift back from awe to disinterest, it’s cute. She smiles wondering what his face would look like if she made a matching one for the cat, and maybe Titus too.
“.... It’s well made,” Damian eventually allows, folding it over his arm, Marinette notices how his fingers linger on the soft fabric.
“Good to know,” She smiles, bidding him goodbye before the moment can be ruined. She bounces down the hall humming to herself.
“Someone's happy,” Tikki flies out of her bag.
“He liked it, why wouldn't I be happy?”
“Someones really happy,”
“Stop it Tikki,” Marinette giggles, making the kwami laugh in turn.
“Just like adrien~” Tikki sing songs floating down the hall ahead of her.
“Well then, keep Kagami far away from this one,”
“Don’t turn into a stuttering mess and we have a deal,” Tikki agrees.
“Please Tikki I’m not thirteen anymore,” Marinette brushes her off, ready to go make the others gifts, if she spent the whole time humming to herself Tikki wasn't going to explain why to Adrien.
