watching sailor moon and learning about the scrapped SuperS movie script makes it so obvious ikuhara literally just thinks masculine women are really cool and understands that a lot of girls admire them and enjoy seeing masc/fem lesbian relationships lol so it makes peoples one-note analysis of utena's masculinity fall even flatter than before bc you really shouldnt be overlooking the commitment to like extremely positive portrayals of female masculinity in his work just to be like "we're ALL princes and princesses in the end!!!11!!!!!" forthe billionth time

thinking about how good that bit in venture bros 4x2 is wherein rusty and co. break into the home of chuck scarsdale, otherwise known as captain sunshine, one of the most notoriously powerful real life superheroes by day and notable after-hours news reporter by night, only to be found out after he rushes back to his home in a state of emergency, still in the attire of his news anchor alter-ego, to which rusty exclaims "shit, it's chuck scarsdale! hide or we're gonna be on the news!"

spanakopita is such a nostalgic episode of the venture bros. for me, i know it only aired back in 2013 but it's long enough ago and significant enough an event that it's a really good memory, for a few different reasons, one, because i'm FAIRLY certain it was the first episode of the show i ever got to watch as it aired on tv (ah the good ol days) after having gotten into the show earlier that year. two, because amongst the people on tumblr who posted about venture bros. at the time it felt like the first almost inside joke between all of us, a meme specific to avid watchers of the show, just because of how the episode was promoted and the running jokes within it, that i got to be in on too, and i don't want to say it was one of those things you HAD to be there for but at the same time, as a fan of the show, it was a special thing to be there for.

in 2020 i streamed the whole series for one of my best friends over the course of some time, initiating a new fan, and i was excited to get to see this one again in my rewatch because i have such fond memories of it and i think something about seeing it this time around within a proper watchthrough of the show in order gave me a whole new appreciation for it, allowing myself to somewhat disregard the episode as i remembered it (one big meme essentially) and recognizing it as the important character episode it was- i seriously think this episode as a whole might be the instance in the series that makes me feel for the character of rusty more than any other time during the series somehow, and i mean, he's put through a lot of shit but this one's so brutal in watching how a community of people who had initially been holding this child hostage afforded him more care and sympathy than his own father in the end

anyways, just me being goofy. venturoos, enjoy a happy and safe weekend! make it about love and community! 😌 spanakopita!

i grew up loving pokemon as a lot of kids my age did and for as long as i can remember the new games have ALWAYS come out like within days of my birthday. and my mom has always either offered or agreed to get me whichever new game was coming out that year as a birthday gift and this was the first year i asked for a new camera instead because i just cannot get into pokemon anymore. it may be a minuscule thing to note but the past year has been full of little turning points like that for me. hm

i remember seeing some tweet along the lines of "that corn song on tiktok right now is as close as these kids have ever gotten to the random XD humor of 2010" which prompted me to look up said corn song (i don't know tiktok memes) only to find out it was remixed by the gregory brothers, otherwise known as schmoyoho, known for old school hits such as the double rainbow and the bed intruder songs, so all i'm understanding is history repeats itself. it all comes full circle. they also produced the "chrissy wake up" remix btw.
