Is there a scene in the Spy x Family anime that you wish was in the manga, or vice versa?
Hmmm... honestly, I'm quite satisfied with what I've been seeing so far, considering I'm one of the very few that go anime-to-manga instead of the opposite. It's always a surprise when I read the respective manga chapter of the episode I just watched, and to see that something was added in the anime.
Of course, my top favourite addition is the over-the-top Loidman adventure in episode 5. However, I don't believe it misses from the manga; it's just as ridiculous (affectionate) as it is, the anime simply took advantage of its animation perks to bring it to a different level. Similar is the scene of Yor bringing Anya's gym clothes to her, I even remember watching it and going like "I wonder how that goes in the manga" and being surprised that it was an original part! Again, in this part, there was a lot of focus on the over-the-top action and movement, something that the anime can use much more easily.
So I don't think I have an anime-only scene that I miss from the manga. As for vice versa, I wouldn't say it's the lack of a scene, more like how they make some expressions less... passionate.
Tumblr media
In the manga, Loid here looks nearly desperate, surprised, out of his depth. In the anime, his expression is more neutral, more reserved, like he feels more confused than anything else. And the point of that moment is for him to actually feel out of his depth, until Yor offers a helping hand.
Tumblr media
I'd dare say this is one of the worst offenders, if not the worst offender. I understand why the anime team avoided showing Twilight too worried for Nightfall, as they probably feared it would make audiences think that Oh No Twilight Doesn't Love Yor Because He Showed One (1) Iota of Care for Another Woman!! Is Nightfall Gonna Break Them Apart???!... which, let's be honest, is a totally valid fear to have. Endo makes it crystal clear that Nightfall has no hope as a romantic rival, but audiences can be really thick and stupid, especially when it comes to (even potential) love triangles.
Still, that "neutering" of his expression takes away from his characterization. Twilight is a deeply empathetic person, and seeing Nightfall so upset makes him truly worried. He is Nightfall's mentor and whether he has control over it or not, he cares for her feelings. And this can happen platonically, for the love of fuck, romance isn't the only nor the holiest of connections a person can have with someone else. So for the sake of "protecting" the audience's secure feelings for twiyor, they ended up making Twilight look like an ignoramus.
Again, I get it. But I can love twiyor and have my Twilight be empathetic towards people that aren't his wife or daughter, you know?
Tumblr media
Another, subtler but still striking change. Look at that worried eyebrow in the manga, we only see half his face yet we clearly see how touched he is by (what he thinks are) Bond's motives. In the anime, this is really dulled down. It's only the barely visible blush that makes him look a little touched.
Overall, I believe the anime does a great job translating Endo's expressions, from the emotional ones to the subtle ones to the ridiculous ones. But if I were to be asked, I'd change those examples (there might be a few others, but these were the first that came to mind) and make them closer to the manga.
There are, however, a few changes in the pacing that hit the spot perfectly right. One example I'm thinking of is from Chapter 35/Episode 24:
Tumblr media
In the manga, it's straightforward. Loid sees Yor's reaction to what happened, he's thinks of his mother, and he shares the memory with Yor.
Tumblr media
This gif was sped up to fit in the gifset I made, but notice how there's pauses for Twilight to go from one expression to the other. There's even one moment of him looking to his bottom right, and there's a very interesting correlation to lateral eye movement here.
Tumblr media
Per this graph, he's remembering a feeling/sensation. The feeling of calmness he felt in his mother's presence.
The anime takes time to show him go from realizing that Yor feels bad, to feeling guilty himself and wanting to placate her worries, to remembering his own feelings about his mother, to wondering if he should share that memory, to deciding to share it.
So I feel the anime team knows very well what they're doing, and they respect the original material enough to make additions that bring the story and characters to a whole new, precious level. But, I don't doubt that they're terribly overworked and underpayed, so sometimes things can slip through. I don't blame them, in any case.
Not directed at the asker, but if you feel like shitting on the anime, this is not an invitation to do so on my post. Make your own and leave me out of it.
(Anime only (or anime first?) fan here, don't spoil me for the manga)

come along, one and all, to the hawkins fair! a special event held in honor of two thousand of you fine people being here. why not have a look around? we’ve got two wonderful parks for you to peruse, writer’s world and gifset grounds, so take your time, pick an attraction or two and be sure to check out the fireworks show at the end!
●・○・●・○・●
-ˏˋ Writer’s World ˊˎ-
🪞 hall of mirrors: you’re here, you’re there, you’re everywhere! which is the real you? who are these doppelgangers? – send me a description of yourself and i’ll write you a short blurb about what i think your role would be within the stranger things timeline! (+ add a 💕 if you also want to be shipped with someone)
💜 tunnel of love: they can’t stay still. your breath is shallow. awkward laughter as you catch each other’s eye, crammed in a boat with a strangely ominously glowing void ahead of you. – send a character or ship (please specify if the ship is standalone or an x reader polycule! i’ll assume all ships are standalone unless stated otherwise) and i’ll write a romantic blurb. (+ add a 🔥if you want smut)
🎠 carousel: the music fills your ears, the cool metal pole pressing against your warm, flushed cheek as you see your best friend next to you, having the time of their life. – send a character or platonic ship (please specify if standalone or x reader) and i'll write a friendship blurb. *this is the only option where i will also accept members of the party as options, but not directly interactive with the reader UNLESS as a side character/sibling of reader. (e.g. i won't accept dustin x reader but i would include dustin (+ other kids) in a henderson!reader x older teen scenario, or dustin with other canon characters)
🎪 big top: sit back, relax, and enjoy the show! this one’s all about celebrating you, dear audience, so we’ll need volunteers! volunteer yourselves, your friends, your idols. everyone deserves a spotlight! – send a fic you’re proud of! send a fic you love! this totally isn’t a thinly-veiled attempt at me trying to farm fic recs since i’ve slipped so much! it could be a reader insert or a ship. i don't mind any ship (as long as it doesn't include b*lly or j*son), especially rarepairs!
🌀 a portal?!: uh-oh, looks like HNL’s been at it, again. this time, it seems as though they’ve opened a portal through the entire multiverse! people are appearing that look strangely like existing hawkins residents. – send another character that a stranger things actor plays and i’ll write a romantic or platonic blurb for them, too! (+ add a 🔥if you want smut)
●・○・●・○・●
-ˏˋ Gifset Grounds ˊˎ-
🤹 the juggler: that’s right, i’m the juggler, baby! i can juggle almost anything you want, anything at all! i might even toss one your way, get ready for it! – make me choose between any number of things! people, ships, scenes, locations, seasons, etc.
🎈 balloon stall: get your balloons here! we got all the colours here, you want one? two? all?! you got it, kid. – send a character/ship and as many colours as you want to be featured.
🐤 hook a duck: feeling lucky, duck? why not take a chance on one of these rubbery fellas? anything could be under it, anything at all. you won't know unless you try! – send this and i'll have a randomiser decide who i make a gifset for.
🎡 ferris wheel: far above the shrieks of an excitable crowd, the blaring lights, the aromatic mix of sickly sweets, sweat and smoke; a moment of peace. just you, the world beneath you, and a simple song to guide you. – name a character and either choose a song/artist yourself or leave that up to me, and i'll make a lyric gifset for them!
👻 ghost train: what is dead may never die. what lurks within the dark depths of the unknown? truly anything can happen, if you dare to take the leap and open yourself to possibility. – give me an au (literally anything non-canon-compliant) and i'll try and make a gifset about it!

🎆 fireworks! 🎆
i just wanted to take a moment to thank every one of you. it's been insane how i can once again fall in love with writing, be this close to finishing a majorly hefty writing project, and learn a new skillset that i actually enjoy right from the get-go. being a part of fandom again has me getting out of the house again, going to conventions again, making new friends wherever i go, making plans to go to places i've never been before with those people. i thought that part of my life was behind me. i've never been more proud to be wrong.
all of you have encouraged me in ways i couldn't begin to explain, but the mutuals i'm tagging inspire me with their support and creativity every dang day. i'm so lucky to have these people in my life in any capacity, whether we talk every day or we've never spoken (though if the latter's the case, i'd love to fix that!) 💜

Hold on I'm going to make a vague post about something incredibly silly and unimportant.
I follow the mika zibanejad tag on here bc he's very pretty and i like when i get automatically shown new gifsets from people i don't follow. But I've been getting shown a post that's tagged with mika and two other nhl guys, matthew tkachuk and nolan patrick, and the post is like a jokey post about like "ugh how dare men be beautiful while definitely using horrible oil-stripping 3-in-1 products" or whatever, like it goes on a bit and is clearly meant to not be serious. But, ok listen i know nothing about npatrick's personal care routine, i don't care about him being tagged, whatever. And obviously i don't know the details of mzibanejad or mtkachuk's. But like first of all i once dated someone with curly hair for like a year and just from that i can tell you that mtkachuk is not using some 3-in-1 bullshit bc his hair would never let him in a million years. That texture demands real conditioner just by virtue of existing. Second of all mika's bestie chris is on camera being asked "if mika could only bring one item with him to a deserted island, what would he bring" and answering "moroccan oil (for his hair)." His buddy knows what hair products he uses. Just looking at a photo of mika it's extremely obvious how deliberate he is with his appearance, and chris and mika both acknowledge this in that same video when asked which of them takes more time to get ready in the morning or whatever the question was and they both immediately said mika.
Anyway I'm just saying, 2/3 of your examples are bad. Granted the 3-in-1 mention might not be intended as a specific accusation so much as vibes, which maybe makes the mtkachuk one more forgiveable, but even then idk, i think he puts at least some thought into his personal care and appearance even if his "thought" is to wear fucken polos and bucket hats.
Anyway that's all, this is incredibly silly but i keep forgetting to tell tumblr to stop showing me that post so i keep seeing it and fuming all over again at the thought of someone with hair that curly going near it with something like that or looking at a photo of mika and not immediately knowing that that man knows what he's doing irt his appearance

I literally just had to read about how Rhaenyra is worth caring about because she’s ‘whole and alive’ compared to Alicent’s ‘bitter old ghost’ like PLEASE can people not analyse these characters through such a misogynistic lens that suggests Alicent is less than a real woman for being so feminine coded and not having the privilege or power to burn her way out (also think this does a disservice to Rhaenyra’s struggles too)
??? I??? I just have no words ?? I mean I do but fucking still
Is it not exhausting to be hating on her all the time? Would it not be more fun to just consider the context we have been given with scenes between young Alicent and Rhaenyra, step out of the heteronormative/"I need to simplify everything and find the antagonist (preferably female, idk why though)" bubble and acknowledge that Alicent is not "just so fucking bitter and for what? move on, girl" solely out of spite or BecAusE shE hAs noThiNg GoInG oN but because she's a complex and (so far) possibly the most well-written character on the show? There are so many layers to her! Yes, she is a ghost of her former self but still with so much substance, she makes this conflict all the more interesting.
It's like people who say these things re so blinded by the set-up rivalry and cheering their chosen side on, and being in the right (when no monarch or noble can be blameless the moment they partake in war and overall, it's not Tumblr, it's Westeros????) that they completely miss out on how misogynistic they come off as in this pursuit of... explaining why Alicent is BIG EVOL.
Both are worth caring about, why can't they grasp that? Ignore the fact that it's a show for a second, assume it's an actual historical conflict with one leading woman on each side. We have the context and yes they both do terrible things but they have been manipulated into their positions by various circumstances and they are each other's equals on that level. They are victims. Rhaenyra is not as happy/complete as it may seem right now, either (just my opinion). She just has better support, for now. Both are dealing with an oppressive system and their own traumas in their own respective ways. You are completely correct that that is doing Rhaenyra a disservice. She's not stronger than Alicent, she just had to face different circumstances. Both are extremely strong but also extremely damaged.
Yesterday I posted about how I am yet to see Team Green being as virulent as Team Black stans can get (let's be real, especially towards Alicent) but took it down because someone called me 'willfully blind', suggesting that Team Green stans act in similar manner. I thought, fair, I haven't seen anything of that nature yet but that doesn't mean it's not true. Better not add to the already miserable bout of dramas.
But I scroll the Alicent, Rhaenicent, other such tags and amongst all the pretty gifsets and interesting takes there is just so much fucking vitriol. Now let me preface this by saying, I have nothing against running jokes or takes about characters being wrong and/or deserving to be punished for something but... it's not even just takes at this point, people prance around saying that this specific woman deserves to be "put down" and should have been "beheaded several times" and Idk it just doesn't really say "jokes" or "lighthearted fandom banter" to me. Like are y'all good? I can't imagine it being fun to hate one specific character so much given the amount of interesting traits and nuances they harbour.
I haven't been in the GOT fandom before but I have been told that similar nonsensical dramas would spark up over there frequently, maybe I'm just not used to it.
*Also hot take but I think if people dared to actually acknowledge the intensity of the bond between Rhaenyra and Alicent when they were younger + the loneliness and abuse Alicent has endured, they would have an easier time understanding why she is a "bitter ghost".

I feel like this fandom and the actual text have a terrible infantilization problem in the attitude that’s all, oh, how could Nate be so mean to poor baby Colin, or Nate was utterly delusional when he felt dismissed by someone who literally brushed him aside to go celebrate with Roy, how dare he be so ungrateful, of course Ted never did a single thing that could even be considered wrong. It makes even those characters less interesting! I’d argue Colin owes Nate an apology much more than Nate owes Colin, especially because Nate already did apologize, but the one character who Nate was, without question, the most unnecessarily cruel was Will. And the players are much nicer to him than they were to Nate, but in the sense that they see him as a pet, not a person. Like, he’s treated as a tagalong kid mascot despite him being canonically older than Sam and about Jamie’s age - totally fine to have him around to pick up after them, but of course they’d never even dignify his invitation out with a response. Similarly, fans use his mistreatment to hate on Nate, but not actually explore any of these characters’ real strengths and flaws.
100% anon, I get the show not developing everyone because it has an ensemble cast and it'd be impossible to do. But fans definitely reduce characters to what they find palatable.
As you said, Ted's cut down to this all-american happy-go-lucky white himbo dad. But he struggles with alcoholism, the fall out of his marriage, being away from his kid, his father's passing, panic attacks etc. He's told his positivity is hurting him and that he needs to be more open. Ted is way more interesting than this fandom allows him to be.
Nate is one of the most complex and nuanced characters. We saw how and why he spiralled: his desperate search for validation, looking himself up on twitter, negative comments cutting him down, taking it out on others, being dismissed by others, checking twitter again etc. His outburst in the finale was gradually built up and foreshadowed throughout the show. Brendan Hunt said "It was certainly fun bread-crumbing his transformation throughout Season Two especially, but there's breadcrumbs in Season One as well."
I wonder if writers would have taken more care with Nate's story if they knew how fandoms hate brown characters...
ANYWAY Nate was cruel to Will and I wonder if it's because he sees himself in Will? And if Nate's emulating what he had done to him when he was kit man? To feel powerful, to feel like he's something. Regardless I want Nate to realise he doesn't need to put anyone down for himself to matter. I'd love for him to reconcile with Will!
I'm not that bothered by Will not being developed. He's more of a cameo and comic relief. Would have been nice if he was more fleshed out, especially when newer characters get a lot more screen time.
What gets me is that Will seems like a non-entity in fandom. I see a few funny gifsets with him and that's it. Not many head canons, meta, posts in general. But he always finds his way in Nate hating posts. Begs the question, do you care about Will or is he just a convenient prop to hate on Nate?

Idk if anyone follows my posts enough to even notice this but you may have seen me talking about a lot of new things I've watched so far this year, both tv and film. I kind of made a mini resolution to do this because I found, especially at the end of 2023, that I was stuck in a rut of either rewatching old things or mindlessly flipping through YouTube videos I had little to no interest in. There's so much media out there I'm interested in and now I feel almost reinvigorated to go through it and I've been having a blast.
Most of the time I'll probably just reblog a gifset or two with thoughts in the tags but I finally watched the Interview with the Vampire tv show and I have FEELINGS (mostly good)! Spoilers for season one and I do talk about book things that eventually happen so beware in case you don't know and want to continue the show completely blind...
So I kinda put off watching this at first because the Vampire Chronicles books are some of my favourites, and while it did have its own issues, the 1994 film holds a special place in my heart. I was like... do we really need anything else? But I'm glad I gave it a chance because the show was able to go so much further in so many aspects and also now we have a chance to actually see even more of the book events take place!
I'm gonna say up front that almost every character felt very different from how they are in the book except for Lestat. Lestat was actual perfection and I cannot BELIEVE someone did a (dare I say) even better job than Tom Cruise who gave the performance of his life in the film. Sam Reid's Lestat is unhinged and dramatic and terrifying and sad and cringe and yet also loveable and it was a masterpiece of acting. For the majority of the other characters I really didn't mind the differences and in some instances I thought they were actually improved. Daniel Molloy, for example, who is basically Anthony Bourdain? Perfection. Louis who is yes kind of pathetic and dramatic like the book, but also is volatile and complicated which Lestat is drawn to right from the beginning instead of only after having his little breakdown caused by his brother's death? Excellent. Armand who is older and looks nothing like the Armand described in the books but I can see without any problem how Marius fell madly deeply insanely in love with him because he's GORGEOUS and has this unsettling serenity about him? Give. Me. MORE.
The only issue I really had was with Claudia. I see people praising her all over the place so I'm sure this is an unpopular opinion but I hated that they aged her up so much. The most compelling thing about Claudia as a character is that she is an adult woman trapped in the body of a literal CHILD. A pre-pubescent child. Not a teenager. It's absolutely horrifying and it should be horrifying. Now, I will say, I saw an article where they talked about part of the reason behind this choice being that they needed the actor to work longer hours and it was impossible for a kid to do that, plus the very intense material, and I fully FULLY support any protections for child actors because the industry is insane. But it does make me sad and I wish there was some way they could have worked around it. I get what they tried to do with teenage Claudia but it just fell flat for me. And also the actress really looks her age (I think she's 20?) so like the few times where people were making fun of her for "playing dress up" or whatever I'm like... she fully looks like an older teen at LEAST what are you talking about lol. Also I thought her accent was kind of bad.
But honestly, that was really the only problem I had with the whole series. I absolutely loved how they went full-on explicit with the Lestat/Louis romance and the chemistry between the two of them was... WOOF. I was actually really interested in the modern portions too, mostly because Anthony Bour-- I mean Daniel Molloy was so entertaining lol. I loved how he pushed and pushed at Louis and their whole back and forth was brilliant. Although putting on my archivist's hat for a second to be outraged at Daniel consenting to wearing the cotton gloves to handle the diaries but then eating a fucking sandwich right beside the book???? Absolutely not lol. It was so much fun to see the Armand reveal (which I was spoiled for somehow but that's ok) especially knowing that Armand eventually turns Daniel and boy oh boy I hope they go long enough to get to that. I loved the continued references to Lestat's love of music which makes me hope they're planting seeds to make rock star Lestat a little more believable lol (god can you even imagine?? And we don't talk about the Queen of the Damned movie ok).
As for S2, I'm so excited for Paris and the Théâtre des Vampires and HELLO Ben Daniels as Santiago!!! Omg so hype for that. And it's going to be so interesting to see the Armand/Louis relationship as well because I mean it's always going to be Lestat/Louis and Armand/Marius for me so Louis being like "he's the love of my life"... girl. (And speaking of Armand/Marius please GOD give us some flashbacks because they are my Vampire Chronicles OTP and I need to see that whole story including my girl Bianca thank youuuuu).
Yeah so overall I'm quite positive about the whole thing and sincerely hope that they get many more seasons because there's so many interesting stories in those books and we've only ever gotten a TINY portion on screen.

As someone who knows very little about D&D and is interested in playing BG3 because I thoroughly enjoyed Larian's DOS2, I appreciate your BG3 tags/posts/etc. I've learned a lot through them. 👍
I'm currently following a BG3 playthrough over on YouTube, and I hadn't liked Gale as much as I thought I would. Sure, I didn't dislike him, but because I didn't fully understand his relationship with Mystra [as I know next-to-nothing about D&D gods/goddesses], I wasn't interested in his story and had planned on avoiding him altogether whenever I'm able to play the game myself.
That being said, your thoughts on the subject have—dare I say—de-Myst-ified the bits I just couldn't seem to wrap my head around. The content on your blog has single-handedly changed my mind, lmao. Thank you!
thank you so much for taking the time to send me this ask! it makes me really happy to hear that!
but also kudos to you that you are willing to keep an open mind in the first place and consider different perspectives. that's a great quality to have.
🖤
i also can't take full credit at all: there are many amazing people in this fandom, who have created beautiful art, gifsets, fics and meta such as @vilemoonwitch for gifsets and discussions, and @mybg3notebook, who really took the time to go through the finer details of the content we had available for early access (gale in particular) and their lore and character posts are still worth reading imo.

Are people truly on Twitter like: "Why does the HAG of Ryan Reynolds looks like a HAG next to his younger co-star who is put with him as a love interest which makes the age difference and more glaring." like... the man already got duped in that fucking orange make up tan and the weird ass saturation... even though Robbie is not feeling it as bad.
it's actually sooooooo crazy like someone took a screenshot of that gifset (and i KNOW for a fact it was from that gifset specifically) and went "idk i'm not feeling gosling as ken this don't look right" and you had HUNDREDS of people going "how DARE you, he is PERFECT for the role, NOBODY else would have embodied the character better, NO OTHER ACTOR has the comedy chops and timing of ryan gosling" and then it looped back to like... accusatory of ageism? like "barbie is SUPPOSED to be in her 30s+, how DARE actors be allowed to age, oh so he isn't good enough because he has WRINKLES?" and they are basically jerking each other off to this... like. cancellation of ryan gosling because one (1) person made an incredibly mild comment about how gosling, who is TEN years older than margot robbie, was maybe not the best casting choice for ken
also they are sucking greta gerwig's dick SO hard bc she has like, 4 people of color in the movie. which TO BE FAIR, is more people of color than greta gerwig has EVER had in ALL her movies combined, but...

sitcom/drama trope i absolutely despise: woman breaking up with a man then getting mad and having a public fit and berating and insulting him when the man sleeps with someone else within a short period of time, and *literally everyone acts like this is okay and the man is the one in the wrong*
like my fury about this plot device goes all the way back to friends, and honestly fuck that show for making me be on ross's side for once, but i just saw a gifset about this same situation in ted lasso after keeley broke up with jamie and it gave me war flashbacks (tbf keeley did not throw a fit but the intention of the show was definitely that this was Bad Behavior by Prick Jamie). like i 100% do not agree with this weird cultural take that a person Must wait an unspecified Proper Length Of Time before daring to put their hands on another person after a breakup. as far as i'm concerned once you break up with someone it is literally none of your goddamned business who they're fucking and how long it took them to do it, and i hate media that uses it as a shortcut to say See This Prick Really Is Trash
anyway it also just highlights a bit of keeley's unaddressed hypocrisy for me

@collidingxworlds said: 8, 18, 28 (mun talks about a munday topic)
send a number for me to talk about one of the following topics    /    ACCEPTING ↷
Tumblr media
reblog karma :: I prefer if people reblog from the source regardless of if they send me a meme or not (unless maybe ooc memes because it’s fun to send some back if they sent me some and reblogged from me and I notice that), but I’m not that bothered about it if people reblog from me and don’t send stuff, unless it’s non-mutuals/happens all the time excessively. I definitely prefer people to not send something out of obligation. I’ve seen folks talk about how they "know" people reblogged because they saw the meme "on their blog" even if they reblogged from the source and I think that’s... way too far, like, so what if they saw it from you and sent nothing if they reblogged from source/a meme blog? I understand wanting mutuals to interact with you and I agree that everyone would do well with making a little bit more effort to engage with their mutuals (liking gifsets and such is such a low effort way of signaling you value someone on your dash for example if you don’t have it in you to interact ic or talk), I don’t understand why anyone would want to be sent memes the other mun had no true interest in. I think everyone is entitled to their own rules with this, and I reblog from source on default, if available, unless I know the other mun prefers I reblog from them instead.
shipping :: Taking this to refer to romantic/sexual shipping. I love to ship! I hate that even I feel the need to say that "I am not here for ships only", as if simply saying I love shipping meant that that’s all I want from roleplay... I think the rpc as a whole should keep trying to unlearn any shame related to shipping, and I think that shame comes from misogyny. Romance in fiction is often both marketed towards women, and we automatically view romcoms, harlequin novels, etc. as "lesser" than, not real art/literature, shallow (which... there’s nothing wrong with something just being lighthearted entertainment, it doesn’t decrease the value of the work)... It’s not a coincidence the things commonly associated with "types of fiction women engage with" are seen as less valuable. It’s probably the source of the subtle feeling of "writing platonic dynamics is superior" in the rpc. It’s more internalised (you don’t have to be a woman to have internalised misogyny - I am not a woman and I’ve noticed these types of shame in myself) than anyone actually saying that about what other people write. My saying "I want to ship but I’m not here for only that" comes from shame related to internalised misogyny, just the feeling of needing to defend shipping by signaling that it’s not all you write is likely related to internalised misogyny. Being more nervous about asking if the other mun is interested in shipping than if they’re interested in a friendship interaction is likely related to internalised misogyny... Again: because romance as a genre is associated with being "for women", and systemic misogyny. Why else would it feel more shameful to suggest writing with another mun? Why should it?
Bet you all didn’t expect a social commentary on misogyny’s effect on fiction-
I love shipping, and I wish I were more bold in daring to suggest shipping. I think force shipping and not taking a no for an answer is a much, much smaller scale issue in the rpc than the shame related to wanting to ship. Like, on an individual level the former is a worse thing, but I don’t think it’s as prevalent as the internalised shame about ships.
your first muse :: Off tumblr? That goes so far back no one needs to see that; I don’t remember who exactly was my first private muse but I was about 14 years old and in many RPF fandoms so...
On tumblr, it was actually Iris, whom I write on this blog now; my first rp blog here was for her. Her character begun with an idea to make a Doctor Who OC who was manipulated into trying to assassinate the Doctor (which still remains a potential verse; wink wonk folks). This was in 2013. I’d link to her muse page but I desperately want to rewrite/move it before advertising her lollll.

This is on the last post where someone said "Fuck whoever tagged this as W*ncest"
Just, ugh, people who say shit like that honestly bother me.
Because I know if it were any other character combo with an "acceptable" ship people wouldn't even bat their eyes at it being tagged with that ship.
I also feel like nowadays (not that it was ever particularly "accepted" but it's definitely been worse lately) people legitimately fully misunderstand the nuances of Wincest as a ship. For one, I think they completely disregard that "gencest" is contained within wincest. Which means all of those brotherly moments are still a part of the ship. Just because the moments are read as "solely brotherly" by non-wincest shippers doesn't mean that those moments don't directly apply to the ship wincest. It's like saying "You're not allowed to see Castiel's love confession as Destiel because I only see the two of them as friends." Like, whether or not you are reading a scene a certain way does not mean that that ship has not FULLY ACCEPTED that moment as part of its cannon. Like just because you wouldn't tag a moment as a ship, does not mean that those people who ship it aren't allowed to.
I think it's gotten to the point where even ACKNOWLEDGING that those brothers are fucked up over each other, even in a non-sexual way, has become so frowned upon that even Gencest (which used to actually be a legitimately popular form of content for people who liked the idea of codependent brothers but didn't like the idea of outright incest) is no longer acceptable. I spend so much time on tiktok watching edits that could CLEARLY be read as Wincest by a shipper being tagged as "this isn't wincest, ew" or "I hope that this isn't a wincest edit" as if people are extrapolating content out of ether instead of literally copying and pasting scenes that show the brothers in a more "gencest" light.
Anyways, sorry for the rant, I've just spent too much time on the internet at this point and honestly people can be so frustrating.
Yeah i completely agree! It's absurd to be so obsessed with how other people interpret a post to the point where you won't interact with it if someone else sees it in a way you don't like. Like - so many people refuse to reblog gifsets of canon scenes if they're tagged as wincest, and it doesn't make any sense at all! If you like the gifset who cares if someone else is appreciating it for different reasons?
(Obviously the actual reason is that they'd be immediately ostracized by their mutuals if they dared to reblog something like that and wow that sounds so healthy and not stressing at all)

loved your tags on that last gifset you rebloggued. i love how you talked about ariel's compassion because i think that's a trait of hers that gets WAY too ignored by many people.
Tumblr media
Thank you, friend! I think most of the Disney movies, people watch passively because they've been so familiar with them for years so they're not reacting to the scenes or digesting them for what they are. Which is easy to do, considering. But! I really try to make it alive and immerse myself in that world to bring authenticity to the characters. It wasn't until a few years ago that I realized how frightening the ordeal must've been for Ariel. To be tossed from the ship like that into the sea, to see so many humans cry out and jump into the ocean, to see the threat of fire for the first time and have splinters and broken wood flying at her through the whipping rain. All foreign sensations and elements and fears and experiences for her.
Also, one of my major breakthroughs with that character, came when I realized what saving Eric meant. Even though we view Ariel, and I mean we as a society, as defiant and confident and headstrong, up until this point she's been pretty...obedient isn't the right word, since she forgot about the concert in the opening act and she does go to the surface right after the fight with her father, but she...she attempts to assimilate and always has the lower hand in arguments. She isn't actively defying her father to his face or in a way that's completely putting herself in danger of his wrath. It's somewhere in the middle. Like she omits parts of herself to maintain a semblance of peace. She'll go to the surface, but she won't tell him about it. She'll go exploring shipwrecks, but she won't bring anyone else along. She'll home an entire grotto of treasures, but she'll do it in secret so he'll never find out. Even when she sees Eric's ship, she watches safely from the distance, not daring to interact with any of the humans. But, when Eric falls into the sea and she wraps her arms around him and brings him to shore, she's actively breaking the most important of her father's rules- not just to her, as a daughter, but to all his people of Atlantica: contact between the merworld and the human world is strictly forbidden. She was presumably the first to ever break this rule and she did it without a second thought, because she saw someone else's life at risk. Just as Eric had done for his dog just a few moments earlier- which gives me so many additional thoughts about how perfectly suited they are to one another, but I digress.
Ariel's actions might be rash at times and she might not always present herself in the best way and most of the time she does things that just seem to defy logic, but it's all an extension of her incredibly big heart. She sees people for who they are, she refuses to let others influence her views or beliefs or her reads on another person and prefers to be informed of their character through their actions. In other instances, she could believe that same character is capable of reforming should their actions be less than savory. And while I disagree and agree with certain parts of this ideology, how beautiful is it to go through life with an entirely untainted view for humanity and who and what people are and the autonomy and freedom to experience it for yourself, firsthand, as opposed to only knowing life and people through someone else's beliefs or stories or warnings?

I really should stop looking at other people’s opinions on to my star 2 bc it’s making me a bit sad to see how people are talking about the show and the creator. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and no one has to like a show, but I’ve seen some kind of disrespectful statements on multiple social media platforms. Some people have been quite mean to the director and are saying she’s ruined everything and no viewers wanted what this season was and that’s just not fair (or true). Again people can have their opinions, but I wish they wouldn’t be so rude to someone who has quite clearly put a lot of effort and love into telling a very compelling, heart wrenching, and well executed show.
I do think some BL fans, may be used to the typical BLs which quite honestly still have a lot of shallowness to them due to simply lack of resources and care put into the making of them. The shows are quite simple and the issues aren’t very complex. I have also seen a growing trend in online fandoms over the past years of people being genuinely upset that fictional characters do not act in healthy logical ways, even though that’s not even how real life works and that would make for an incredibly boring story.
No one is required to like the show, or like Jiwoo, or agree with this thought process, or even want them to get back together. But I’ve felt increasingly disillusioned with online fandom for tv and movies over the past few years in particular. If a character isn’t perfect how dare you like them and want them to get a happy ending, if a pairing isn’t the wet dream of a couple’s therapist you shouldn’t want them together and it’s bad writing if they get/stay together, if a storyline doesn’t go how you want then how dare the writer/director go in that direction no one could *ever* like that writing choice and it’s ruined everything. Everything is just SO extreme and so polarized and people seemingly don’t want to just let other people enjoy things if they aren’t (and sometimes vice versa). It’s just exhausting.
Despite all that I’ve loved this season a lot, I wish we got Jiwoo’s perspective a little earlier, but I’m not too worried about pacing issues. I think these last two episodes were really well done and the last two are gonna have a running time of like 76 minutes, so I think there’s enough time for a satisfying resolution, whatever that is (I’m still rooting for them to just talk and get back together lol). I feel like it’s pretty typical to pack a lot into the tail end of any story, and can be done well and I trust this show to do it well. Looking forward to next week!
I'm with you 😔 I try to look through the tag often to reblog everyone's gifsets and support text posts, but I can't do it right now. The take I've been seeing about how this is a bad story now just because some people don't like it leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. And I'm saying this as someone who really hates sad endings and will be beyond heartbroken if tms (my feel good drama!!) doesn't have a happy ending. A story isn't bad just because some people don't like it, that's not how it works. And yet.
You're absolutely right that fandom has become quite extreme. And the more I think of it, the more I'm like... tms2 isn't even that tragic. Yes, we're all suffering, but this is because we're so attached to these characters. But in reality, what's happening between jiwoo and seojoon is a very mundane story of broken people who were in a relationship before they had time to do some healing and I've seen in the same story in real life multiple times. People are acting like this suddenly became a novella with absurd and unnecessary angst which is so far removed from the truth.
Like. I get it. S1 had such good vibes and it was so light and it was such a feel good show and people are right that this is the reason we all fell in love with it. But I hate the idea that the writers owed us the exact same vibes again and, because they didn't come through with that, then they've fucked up a perfectly good story. It's objectively not true. The storytelling this season is so grounded and captivating and heart-wrenching and overall very smart. The story doesn't want to make us happy for 10 episodes, it wants to make us think and feel and that's valid. Sometimes I wish some people would just be honest and say they hate people suffering from mental health because it's what some of these posts sound like anyway.

Hiii ♥️
hahaha nooo the ask game is in your blog! I saw it a while back and then I couldn't find it so I had to hit the search button on your blog for #ask game and it popped up 😆
Anyway I had a great Easter thanks, just with the fam and a lot of food! 😅😂
Ugh ikr. It's hard when you get hooked onto a book. I have lost sleep in the past cause of it 😔😁
You lucky duck ALL three of them just for youu 😏 I don't think I'd be able to to handle it either 😌
I'm sure you'll figure it out! (jealous!jey) hope you have fun doing it 😊 can't wait!
Ta
🐨
aaahh i found it!! i had to search tumblr but luckily it came up pretty quick!!😭 im glad you had a great easter!😊
oh im soooo excited!! it's a great way to spend my birthday honestly😍😍 and i think ive figured out the beginning, so hopefully the rest will follow!!🤞 ONTO THE ASK GAME😊
🍓how did you get into writing fanfiction? - now that is the question, isn't it?😭 ive always loved writing stories, but i had a hard time creating original stories (or more so, just fleshing out the worlds & "focusing too much on things that don't matter" as a teacher put it) & then i fell into putting celebrities into stories that i wrote (i'd use their looks, but always give them a different name) & then i started reading stuff on fanfiction.net & wattpad & kinda realised i could just use characters!!
🎲 what stops you from writing more in your free time? - honestly all i have is free time, i do not have a life! but its usually more lack of motivation (most of the time i'll open my wips & just stare at the document!), and also i watch tv while im writing up a draft, so i get distracted😂
🧸 what's the fastest way to become your mutual? - don't be a minor, & post any one (or more) of my favourite things! literally, if someone's following me, i check out their blog & if they're 18+ & they've posted ONE gifset or even fic of something i like, i follow back!!
🏜️ what's your favourite type of comment to receive on your work? - i truly love all (nice) comments, they validate me & make me smile! but if i had to pick, i'd say when someone picks out a line or snippet of the fic that stuck with them, or just telling me that it's beautifully written (because i really really struggle with finding the right words when writing!)
🪲add 50 words to your current wip and share the paragraph here. (have 58 words instead).
Jey would be the first person to tell you that when this started, he hated Sami.
Okay, maybe that was a little too much. He didn't hate Sami, but he didn't like him very much. He didn't like his stupid beard or his stupid curly red hair, and he certainly didn't like those stupid brown, puppy dog eyes.
writers truth or dare!!

“when they asked me what it was like to be in love,
the only answer i could give was your name,
and when they told me the whole world has been in love with you for decades,
i smiled sadly and said not like i have.”
