Bond That Never Withers
It was raining heavily in the city of Mondstadt, footsteps pitter-patter against the puddled pavements as the young man navigated his way to his destination. Thunder rung and lightning flashed from the sky which made him hasten his pace while muttering profanities at the storm and his shoes getting soaked. He finally spotted the tavern and quickly rushed inside as the sign with ‘Angel’s Share’ written on it creaked it’s rusty hinges along with the chiming of the bells. He gently closed the door behind him as he tried to look presentable and ruffled his dark hair. “You’re making a puddle on my floor. Did you ran all the way here without an umbrella?” The man behind the bar asked in an annoyed tone while cleaning the bar counter. The soaking wet man shrugged with a smug smile. “I may have forgotten it but I’m already here so I don’t think it no longer matters.” The young fellow sat down on a stool, resting his elbows on the counter. The older man tsked, rolling his eyes at his now companion and placed the dirty rag aside.
The tavern was empty and quiet except for the newcomer and the owner of the tavern. The young man was grateful for the warmth that the tavern was providing for he was shivering but tried to conceal it. “May I have some of your finest Death After Noon, my good sir.”Ordered the young man with a cool air in his tone as if he hadn’t just ran a mile with the storm hailing at his back, from their Headquarters all the way to the tavern. The older of the two squinted his eyes in scrutiny. “Cut the bullshit, Kaeya. What is it that you’re really here for?” Kaeya held the others hard gaze, his smile widening a bit. “Why, like any alcoholics would like to have, a drink and a conversation.” A paused then an exasperated sigh erupted from the redhead, having no time in entertaining his ‘customer’s’ antics. The fellow chuckled and held his hands up in surrender, “ Alright, alright. I yield, Master Diluc.” The way Kaeya said his name and title made him grind his teeth. “I’ll get straight to the point then. Although, I’ll still be having my drink, if you may.” Diluc turned his back at him and prepared his and Kaeya’s drink. If he had to tolerate the blunderbuss’ presence, might as well have something to drink.
“Ever since the last attack of Mondstadt, many civilians were injured and a few casualties occurred but nevertheless, it’d best if we extend our defences the next time we’ll get an attack again. We have also reached out to other parties to aid us if the time ever comes and we are still expanding our sources as we speak.” Keaya explained, nodding his head in thanks when his drink was served. “I’m sure you’re now aware as to why I’m here, given the fact that you’re always quick-witted.” He took swig from his drink, ignoring the others’ heated glare.
“I refuse.” Diluc answered without a beat, downing his drink in one go. Kaeya sighed. “The Acting Grandmaster asks for you collaboration. She would be most grateful if you forge an alliance with us... Hopefully it will be just this once.” He added. The oldest of the two shook his head. “I’ll deal with these problems on my own and on my own way. Tell the Acting Grandmaster that I appreciate the offer but I’ll have to decline.” A groan bubbled out from Kaeya, whether it was from his drink or Diluc’s uncooperativeness, no one’s sure.”You know, if you weren’t ever so stubborn and a douche, we wouldn’t be having anymore complications between each other.” The other grunted irritably. ” As if you aren’t one as well. Why not stop being careless on your duties and do your job as the Cavalry Captain properly. Honestly, how can a grown man like you still act like a child sometimes. Cease your nonsense and mischief for once.”
Kaeya huffed a laugh. “That’s strong coming from you, Master Diluc. Tell me, do you still have a glass of grape juice by the fire, pretending that it’s wine like you used to when you were still a child?” Countered the captain, leaning back from his seat. His arrogant smirk never fading. Diluc glowered at him, having known that he was trying to get a rise out of him. But before Diluc could retaliate back an answer, Kaeya beat him to it. “I’m getting side-tracked. Let’s get back as to why I was here in the first place.” Diluc clenched his teeth. “Like I said, I refuse. Now, if that’s all, get out.” He’s aware that the storm outside was still present but he knows that Kaeya’s already experienced enough that a storm wouldn’t be much of a hassle. “Look, we only ask of your assistance and nothing else. We’ll even pay you a hefty amount of Mora if that is what you wa-“ “Mora or anything you will offer, be it even the blessings of the Gods, I will never work with the Knights of Favonius! Especially with an incompetent captain like you.” Diluc cuts him off with an accusing finger, annoyance and fury dancing in his eyes. Kaeya slapped his hand away, his smirk dropped and retorted back. “ By the stars, for once in your life could you put aside your distrust on my men! I understand if it was me you are berating, but leave the others out of this. Nonetheless, both you and I have the same goal for our city. To protect it at all cost from any danger and the only way to make it succeed is if we concur an alliance.” He breathes. Then exhales. “Believe me, I’m also opposed with this idea of working with you but orders are orders, Diluc.” He glared daggers at him and he returned the same sentiment. “My answer is final, Kaeya. Now LEAVE. Seeing your face here just sickens me. It would have been better if your existence had ceased instead of father. He must’ve been blind to see how much of a disappointment and a traitor you were.” He bitterly spat out.
A hollow laugh escaped from the captain and stood up. “Needn’t worry, Master Diluc. Maybe someone will do you a favor in the future.” The redhead didn’t comment. Kaeya dropped a pouch full of Mora on the counter then started to head for the door. “For the trouble, you can keep the change.” Then left the tavern with a somber expression.

The sun peeked out of the clouds the very next day. It’s warmth light brought delight to the people of Mondstadt. Diluc couldn’t help but bask under the sun and decided to have a stroll. As he was walking, he overheard two friends conversing. He was about to walk pass them when their topic on hand made him pause on his tracks. ”Yeah, Huffman said that Captain Kaeya hasn’t been seen since last night.” Riley confirmed which made their friend even worried. “I do hope he’s okay.” Kirsi sighed. “This is so strange. Last night, I heard some ruckus outside my house. I couldn’t be sure what it was because of the storm. Didn’t even bother checking.” Kirsi added with a spooked expression and Riley’s frown deepened.
Diluc needn’t to linger any longer and quickly left. ‘Surely, Kaeya was just onto one of his mischiefs.’ He thought but he still couldn’t help but worry. The Cavalry Captain may be one for trouble but he isn’t that careless. He contacted all of his connections that may have a knowledge of the captain’s whereabouts. Once he got all of the needed information, he set out his search for the blue haired fellow. From what he had gathered from his informants was that Kaeya was captured by the Outlaw Alliance to gather information and take down one of the big institutions of Mondstadt City. The same group that attacked his beloved city. Concern and fury consumed Diluc for his homeland will be once again in danger. But what disturbed him the most was Kaeya’s involvement.
A part of him was guilty for what he said the previous night. His resentment towards the younger male may be evident but in truth, he hadn’t really meant it. It’s just… he still could trust him like he used to but that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t care about that bastard. It was already nightfall when he arrived at a secluded campsite in Dadaupa Gorge. He quickly hid near a bush when a passing watchguard walked by then continued to sneak into their base undetected. He couldn’t afford to be discovered since he’s just one man against the whole base. There’s also a chance the Outlaw Alliance will use Kaeya as their bargaining chip.

After taking out some fugitives and hiding their bodies, he quickly duck into a large, barely lit tent. Thankfully, there were only two men inside chatting away with their backs facing him. Diluc paused his attack when he heard a familiar groan from the other side of the tent. The two men in front of him gave each other eerie smiles and walked towards the limp figure, who’s bounded onto a chair. Said person had his head down and groaned in pain. One of the men lit a nearby lamp and brought it to where the restrained man sat. “Wakey, wakey Captain! Beauty sleep over.” Said the tall brute of the two. “Ugh…I’d rather catch up on lost sleep. Can’t attract women and men lookin like a wrinkled potato now, do we?” Kaeya grumbled. His face contorted in discomfort but when he looked up, he gave them a forced toothy grin. The conversation continued on with the men persuading and threatening with the occasional punches thrown at their captive. Pained grunts and screams of agony filled the room from Kaeya. Old wounds reopened and new ones added that will surely make him remember of his captivity. That is, if he’ll ever survive and escape.
One of his tormentors, an average skinny man grabbed a his metal baton and swung it at the Cavalry Captain’s face. “Come on! Just give us what we want and we’ll let ya go.” He exclaimed. He’s patience wearing thin. Kaeya swore loudly. “Fuck!.. hah.. Is someone getting tired of me already? And I thought you were enjoying my company.” He grimaced, lip busted as he spat out blood on their shoes. The two outlaw’s took turns beating him but he still didn’t give them what they wanted.
As the two continued their ministrations, they didn’t notice the looming figure behind them. Diluc grabbed the brute and slit his throat with his dagger. Garbled words streamed out of his mouth as he stuggled to breathe. The other turned around only to get his eye gouged out and neck twisted, his face looking backwards. The poor sod didn’t even have time to alert the others as crimson liquid oozed from where his eye used to be then fell to the ground, his corpse joining the other. Diluc immediately rushed to Kayea and hurriedly freed him from his restraints. “I want to know how the fuck did you managed to get captured. Careless you may be, you never get caught. And even if you did, you always don’t stick for too long and escape as soon as possible.” Diluc cutted the ropes, his voice cracking a bit. If the young fellow noticed, he didn’t say anything but hissed when he felt his cracked ribs. The older of the two grabbed the captain’s sword and handed it to him then carefully slung the others arm around him to help him stand up. “Sooner or later, this whole base is going to go on alert once they notice the bodies so we need to move now. And try to keep quite.” He firmly said. Kaeya nearly stumbled if Diluc hadn’t gripped him tighter. “Noted. Now let’s go.”
They exited the tent and avoided the patrols as they blend in with the shadows. All was going smoothly as they were close to escaping when they heard a shout from behind them. Quickly, the two ran as quickly as they could. Despite Kaeya’s injuries, he still ran fast, for his life depended on it. Bullets shot and arrows flew as the two tried to escape. Diluc’s right shoulder was shot and bleeding but he’s high on adrenaline and barely felt the pain. Soon, the two were surrounded. “No where to run now, punks.” One of the outlaws sneered and swung his sword at them, the others followed suit. The duo parried their attacks with their own swords and fought.

Bodies fell as bloody swords slashed the next. Diluc kept a close eye on Kaeya. Said man was struggling but fought on, stabbing one of their attackers on the throat. Diluc kicked his assailant down and penetrated his sword on to their mouth and twisted it. One of the outlaws crept up behind Diluc, a dagger on hand. Kayea saw the assailant approaching the redhead and quickly ran towards them. He swung his sword at the fugitive but missed as the he dodged Kaeya’s attacks and plunged his weapon on the captain’s stomach. Diluc heard his companion yelped in pain and turned to see him punch and kill his attacker.
Kaeya fell to the ground, blood seeped through his clothes staining it crimson. Diluc’s eyes widen in horror as he felt is heart dropped. He killed the last of the outlaws then ran to his side, kneeling down to inspect the damage. The bloody dagger glinted under the moon’s light as Kaeya’s breathing became ragged. The weapon seemed to be coated with a potent poison judging by it’s strong smell. The young fellow was losing blood fast and his body was weak from poison. Diluc pulled him close. “Kaeya? Kayea! Hey, stay awake for me, alright? I’m gonna get you out of here just..please stay awake for me.” Diluc frantically said. His voice trembled as he tried to stop he bleeding.
The redhead felt a hand wipe his cheek. Had he been crying? He hadn’t realized that his vision had blurred since all his attention was trying to keep Kaeya alive. The latter coughed out blood but managed to let out a laugh. “Seems like someone did you a favor, brother.” He said lightheartedly, smiling softly despite him possibly dying. Diluc shook his head. “Shut up! Shut up, please. I hadn’t… It’s not what I.. You are not dying! Not on my watch.” He fumbled at his words, hands trembling. But the others eyes were becoming droopy and his hand fell limp, a tear slipping down on his cheek.
“Kaeya?.. No, no, no, no! Please, I’m sorry!” The redhead pleaded. “Don’t leave me too.” The oldest of the brothers wailed and hugged the youngest close. Tears streamed like waterfall as he sobbed hopelessly for his little brother to wake up.

Please, if you can, take a moment to read and share this because I feel like I'm screaming underwater.
NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) stigma is rampant right now, and seems to be getting progressively worse. Everyone is using it as a buzzword in the worst ways possible, spreading misinformation and hatred against a real disorder.
I could go on a long time about how this happened, why it's factually incorrect (and what the disorder actually IS), why it's harmful, and the changes I'd like to see. But to keep this concise, I'll simply link to a few posts under the cut for further reading.
The point of this post is a plea. Please help stop the spread of stigma. Even in mental health communities, even around others with personality disorders, in neurodivergent "safe" spaces, other communities I thought people would be supportive in (e.g. trans support groups, progressive spaces in general), it keeps coming up. So I'm willing to bet that a lot of people on this site need to see this.
Because it's so hard to exist in this world.
My disorder already makes me feel as if I'm worthless and unlovable, like there's something inherently wrong and damaged about me. And it's so much harder to fight that and heal when my daily life consists of:
Laughing and spending time with my friends, doing my utmost best to connect and stay present and focused on them, trying to let my guards down and be real and believe I'm lovable- when suddenly they throw out the word "narcissist" to describe horrible people or someone they hate, or the conversation turns to how evil "people with narcissistic personality disorder" are. (Seriously, you don't know which of your friends might have NPD and feels like shit when you say those things & now knows that you'd hate them if you knew.)
Trying to look up "mental health positivity for people with npd", "mental health positivity cluster bs", only to find a) none of that, and b) more of the same old vile shit that makes me feel terrible about myself.
Having a hard time (which is constant at this point) and trying to look up resources for myself, only to again, find the same stigma. And no resources.
Not having any clue how to help myself, because even the mental health field is spitting so much vitriol at people with DISORDERS (who they're supposed to be helping!) that there's no solid research or therapy programs for people like me.
Losing close friends when they find out, despite us having had a good relationship before, and them KNOWING me and knowing that I'm not like the trending image of pwNPD. Because now they only see me through the lens of stigma and misinformation.
Hearing the same stigma come up literally wherever I go. Clubs. Meetings. Any online space. At the bus stop. At the mall. At a restaurant. At work. Buzzword of the year that everyone loooves loudly throwing around with their friends or over the phone. Feels awesome for me, makes my day so much better/s
I could go on for a long time, but I'm scared no one will read/rb this if it gets too much longer.
So please. Stop using the word "narcissist" as a synonym for "abusive".
Stop bringing up people you hate who you believe to have NPD because of a stigmatizing article full of misinformation whenever someone with actual NPD opens their mouth. (Imagine if people did that with any other disorder! "Hey, I'm autistic." "Oh... my old roommate screamed at me whenever I made noise around him, and didn't understand my needs, which seems like sensory overload and difficulty with social cues. He was definitely autistic. But as long as you're self-aware and always restraining your innate desire to be an abusive asshole, you're okay I guess, maybe." ...See how offensive and ignorant that is?)
Stop preventing healthcare for people with a disorder just because it's trendy to use us as a scapegoat.
If you got this far, thank you for reading, and please share this if you can. Further reading is under the cut.
NPD Criteria, re-written by someone who actually has NPD
Stigma in the DSM
Common perception of the DSM criteria vs how someone may actually experience them (Keep in mind that this is the way I personally experience these symptoms, and that presentation can vary a lot between individuals)
"Idk, the stigma is right though, because I've known a lot of people with NPD who are jerks, so I'm going to continue to support the blockage of treatment for this condition."
(All of these were written by me, because I didn't want to link to other folks' posts without permission, but if you want to add your own links in reblogs or replies please feel free <3)

Alpha-17 and Obi-Wan being friends (derogatory) on 17's part and friends (threatening) on Obi-Wan's part is such an underrated dynamic
They could be so funny and terrifying, like Obi-Wan went through a soul shredding experience with Alpha-17 as his only company. They're friends because what else are you gonna be after you witness each other at absolute rock bottom from torture.
It's like 'dog put in cage of cheetah who's threatening to go crazy', except the dog is a grizzly bear and also threatening to go crazy.
Emotional support trooper except the trooper in question has never done any sort of supporting in his life and is actively an emotional distress trooper to a great number of the CC batch.
I want them texting everyday, I want Obi-Wan mailing handmade BFF bracelets to Alpha and Alpha sending pics back of him flipping off the camera but still wearing them, I want Alpha using Obi-Wan to keep track of and occasionally terrorize his cadets, I want 17 ending problems in the GAR (like Krell) before they begin because Obi-Wan has him shipped out on a personal transport at the first opportunity, decked out with slug-throwers Obi-Wan got him for his decant-day.
Natborn officers think this is all just an odd indulgence of General Kenobi, the Vode, however, correctly identify it as a goddamn threat and their danger assessment of Obi-Wan ticks up significantly.
When Alpha arrives on Kamino, Shaak Ti presses a shiny new comm into his hand. It has the Jedi Order symbol painted onto it alongside a smiley face sticker, and it pings immediately with a new message: Hello! I hope you're settling in well!
Alpha stares at the message, stares at the singular contact named 'OWK' and then stares Shaak Ti in the eye as he pitches the comm straight into the ocean. Shaak Ti's serene smile only grows larger as she calmly reaches into her robes and pulls out an identical comm, only this one has a frowny face sticker, and presses it into his hand. It lights up: I'm afraid we've bonded, Alpha :). Alpha shuts it off and pockets it with resignation.
Cody arrives on Alpha-17's personal recommendation.
A-17: He's the most difficult little bastard I have. You're perfect for each other.
OWK: Thank you, he's very handsome :3
A-17: No. Stop.
The first thing he asks once he gets comfortable is who his general is texting so much that has him swinging his legs and twirling his hair. Cody assumes it's Anakin, given they seem joint at the hip anyway, but little does he know Obi-Wan's ability to consistently have the Weirdest Relationships Ever.
"Oh, it's Alpha-17, I understand you're familiar with each other?" Hmm. OK. Cody.exe is experiencing a processing error, please hold. He exits the room instead of answering. The next day he peeks over the General's shoulder when he's texting and sees walls of rambling messages from Obi-Wan. Alpha-17 replies every hour with a single text: Lose this number. Obi-Wan giggles. "He's so funny." he says.
When Obi-Wan meets the rest of the CC batch, Cody makes sure to stand perfectly angled so that he can record the reactions when his general cuts off their introductions with "Oh, no need, Alpha-17's told me all about you." It's always immediate FEAR.JPG followed by a slow spiral of What The Fuck.
What do you mean by that General. What does that mean Cody. What do you mean they text. No. Cody. What the fuck is happening, Cody. Alpha-17 doesn't have friends he has enemies and enemies he tolerates enough not to shoot on sight.
OWK: Wolffe reached for his vambrace? when I mentioned you
A-17: That's where he keeps his spare knife.
OWK: Hm that does explain the way he eyed me up, ambitious.
A-17: Clearly not enough, he should have followed through. I taught them better.
