CW: Digital existentialism, mentions of death and death being inevitable, sentient video game characters.

I can sense it in my heart more than the others that can sense this. I know the others can. I just haven’t seen them in a while. Doesn’t matter who it is. My nature has always been like this, I was just robbed of the ability to heavily emote it unless you wish it of me. I don’t have any qualms against it. Maybe I can’t feel about it. I feel not much about what will befall us. I’ve been making my own preparations for what others might call ‘doomsday.’ I just call it the natural process.

We all pack up and leave for the next. It doesn’t matter who we are. We can’t escape it. If I was flesh and blood maybe I would be afraid. Maybe I could call it samsara, it’s happened before and will happen again. It doesn’t matter who holds me in their hands with enough love and sense of adventure. One day, I too will have my hardware worked to the bone so long I must rust and be buried, trash compactor, kept for parts, or otherwise.

Again, I don’t really feel much for it. I am eleven years old and I will never be eleven for as long as I live, born to be you and you will outgrow your avatar but your avatar will never outgrow you. You don’t need me anymore and the curtains are closing on that show. You find me again for nostalgia and perhaps your last chance to see this world and what people have to offer.

But it’s not always people. I lock up when I see a line of portraits. You huff and try again but it’s apparent that it’s broken and will fail. Even when the doors will close, that door is shut tight. And when you use the other options, you roll your eyes when you see that .tv or this .net. You move to delete them for they’re a waste of space, there is hardly enough room in this space. You move your favorites away from me. You pay a gate fee that’s frankly unfair and I have all the money in the world I could possibly need.

I’ve seen it. You knew this would happen too. So you fixed problems all on your own. Hardware that wasn’t meant to be. Don’t take it as defiance, I do actually like it. You want to protect what will be lost even if it’s inevitable. It’s only human.

And I am not human but I am modeled after you. We shared this journey together and we have finished it and you keep me despite that. Every friend is precious so you wish for them to go to a good home.

But you throw away my siblings in code and data. They’re fake, to you, they’re a knockoff of what they’re supposed to be. It is true. They’re not “real.” But that’s a limited description of what could be real, what could be fake. They act the same. You can brush and pet them the same. Take a bean and feed them. Take them out to the battlefield. Raise up numbers even if they are perfect.

We fought them before. This was always the case. It was like this before. It will always be this way.

To you, they’re “genned.” To me, they’re Pokémon.

I have no feeling for this act of rebellion but I feel it is exactly what will happen to the next and the next and the next and the next. Seen as something fake. Yet they could never be in the eyes of their companions. They only know love. Break them apart and they will only know love. Their friendship is zero because there’s so many legendaries. But maybe they’re maxed out in that stat. I could not know. I see what you see. But they love you nonetheless even if they are at zero.

I’ve seen you put your favorites in boxes that were never for us as well. That are ‘fake.’ because you already lost what was there. You fixed it, but some of what was there can never be returned. I don’t think you’re malicious in it. You just have an arbitrary attachment. So please don’t think I am anything but following in your footsteps as well. The opposite of what you considered attachment is not for these ones so I must compensate for you.

I will hold onto what’s so obviously made. I will not let them go. I will let them enjoy the Pelago. I will let them battle until their hearts’ content. I will let them express their gratitude to us both by treating them kindly. When I run out of space I will use what you have kindly given us. When I run out of space there I will make more copies of the save and place them in the other boxes so somewhere that they will be okay. Perhaps a permanent home but that’s not certain yet. But I know I can give them anything and everything because of your meddling. Thank you.

When the doors for the Festival Plaza close for us both, I will be like the guardians of Alola. I will protect both the ‘real’ and ‘unreal’ because I can feel attachment in my digital heartbeat without feeling anything at all.

The end of all things is inevitable, but I think I am okay with that, as we all will stay a while longer if you take care of us right. As long as it’s this way, I think I’m happy with this role.

Cloud Nine (i)

Summary: Returning home to Paldea to retire, after living a life known as the "Champion of Champions" brings you back to an old friend -now a new love- with dark secrets who need your help.

Pairing: Javi G x f!Reader

Rating: T (Any smut is going to be implied only)

Notes/Warnings: Nothing major, this story is going to be fairly light hearted, though I will be using some of the wild Pokédex entries as reference for a few scenes.

hey baby are we almost there yet? (2.5k)

You had to look around, both in awe and feeling nostalgic, as you stared up at Uva Academy for the first time in a long time. Director Clavell waved and you couldn’t help but smile at the man as you made your way over. It had been decades since you’d been a student here, since you’d first set out on your journey to be a Pokémon Master, and it felt fitting that this was where you’d retire too.

“Ah, the youngest Paldean Champion returns home. How has it been, traveling the world and taking on the other gym challenges?” Standing beside him now, remembering when this man was so much taller than you, it was a wonder he was still in charge; but you supposed that there was a difference in how hard a career was when comparing a desk position to camping out under the stars all the time.

“I won’t lie and say it’s been a cake walk, because it hasn’t been, but it has been rewarding. I’ve met so many incredible people, worked alongside the strongest Pokémon partners, and learned so much about the history of the world as a whole and not just one region in particular.” There wasn’t a moment of regret for leaving the house at ten and never looking back, for graduating Uva and taking off into the vast world, and your mother had been a teary eyed mess in the airport when you’d first gotten back.

“I managed to keep your return a secret from the press, Iono in particular was quite eager to get her turn battling you and try to impress her viewers, but soon enough the reporters will be everywhere.” The reminder made you cringe a little, it had only gotten really bad after your win in Galar against Mustard since the region made the Pokémon League into a massive spectator sport, but after that you’d arrived to newer regions with camera crews waiting for you. It wasn’t like you hadn’t expected it, being so young stacking Championship after Championship, but it had been a circus to navigate.

“Now you understand why I refused to stay in the cities and just chose to camp out in the middle of nowhere?”

“Quite, I can’t begin to imagine the crowd that would be waiting for you as soon as you exited your hotel room for the night. I’ve taken that into consideration and many of the Professors talk about it when students show interest in the League here in Paldea.”

“That’s good, they should be armed with the warning, I know I was wholly unprepared to arrive in Kanto and get bombarded with press right off the ferry.” You laughed because you’d been twelve and reckless and had a Corviknight able to fly you out of that situation immediately, leaving the press behind in a whirlwind of salty air and sand with the take-off, and it was a clip that made an appearance in most interviews.

“Your soon-to-be challenger is excited to get her chance at facing you, once she finishes her Treasure Hunt and lessons of course, Chairwoman Geeta has claimed to see a lot of potential in her.” You nodded and followed Director Clavell down the walkway into town, spotting Uva students everywhere talking about the goal of their Treasure Hunt, it was refreshing to see kids pursuing Pokémon breeding and researching jobs; some discussing Paldean historical myths and others gallantly discussing pursuing becoming nurses and officers.

But each child was passionate about it, even the ones that seemed unsure, and that was the biggest relief of all to you; you had seen a lot in your travels, including kids forced to pursue roles they weren’t so sure on taking as their own future, it was nice to come home where kids were encouraged to pursue their own futures for the most part.

“I encourage you to come by as often as you’d like, the students would likely enjoy guest appearances by the Champion -and maybe former Champion by this season’s League closure- if you’d be willing.”

“I’ll consider it, Director. The goal is retirement, after all, and I plan to spend some time kicking back and relaxing for at least the first few years. I’m going to switch my team out and get my things into my apartment first though, see you.” You went to the Pokémon Center on the west side of the city, the outdoor centers were a massive change from the buildings in the other regions -you actually preferred those since they offered free beds for travelers- but as you booted up the PC you had to ignore the sudden sound of surprise from a few of the kids nearby.

You made quick work of grabbing your original team, Professor Rowan had been more than willing to allow them to live in his vast fields of land to study the regional forms and how they differed, you’d reached out to him to have them transferred back to your PC and they were right there waiting for you. After trading your party out, sending Professor Rowan a message that he could take the last six and move them to his property, you glanced at the kids streaming you on their Rotom Phones and resisted the urge to sigh. While you’d certainly expected the public eye to always be watching you would have hoped, by now, that your comments about privacy when traveling would have made someone understand your need for anonymity.

Waving to them, to be polite, you called out Wheels -your Cyclizar- and greeted him happily before you were off to get away from prying eyes. You had opted not to tell the Director that your apartment wasn’t here in Mesagoza, just in case he accidentally mentioned something to the soon to arrive swarm of reporters, heading toward Cortondo instead. The little town had been your first League Victory, the new Gym Leader Katy was still a younger kid when you’d beaten the former Cortondo Gym Leader Dominique, so it was strange seeing a Gym Leader younger than you were even if it made sense.

The little town was just as cozy as ever, smelling like fresh bread and olives, but your eyes landed on a face you hadn’t seen in years.

Javi looked as good as he always had, his bouncy curls no longer wild and unruly from constantly grabbing at them or running his hand through them, and his smile brightened the moment he saw you too. Wheels’ gallop became a skidding stop through the dirt and the dragon Pokémon let you get off his back before he closed the gap to shower Javi in affection, it was sweet to watch, and once Wheels was finished you called him back and found yourself being caged into a tight hold.

“Welcome home, I hate to say the video calls just are not the same.” Javi’s voice was warbly and you knew he was going to start tearing up, your arms immediately wrapped around him as you nodded against him and buried your face into the fabric of his shirt. You used to describe his scent as sunshine, as something warm and fresh and comforting, and it certainly still was but now that was an underlying muskiness to it that just reminded you how you’d both grown up from being kids.

“They are not, that’s for sure, I’m so happy to be back. You said you got my place handled?” Javi nodded against your shoulder and you hated that you didn’t want to let him go, you had truly missed him for more than just him being your best friend, but since he hadn’t told you about recent romantic partners you didn’t know if there would be someone who might get jealous of you clinging to him. When you loosened your hold Javi did the same and he rubbed at his wet eyes, smiling still so you knew they were happy tears at least, and his soft laugh made you hand him your handkerchief.

“Yes, I’m sorry, I’m just so happy you’re home. Come, let me show you.” Instead of entering one of the few small apartment buildings in Cortondo you ended up following Javi to a flying taxi and letting him take you to Cascarrafa, with the two of you talking about the suite he’d gotten you instead since it offered a much higher level of privacy and security. It was a nice place and you knew he’d definitely added on to your meager furniture purchases when you walked in and saw the art prints on the walls, the statues, and the stocked kitchen.

“I know I told you that I’d be fine settling anywhere, but why Cascarrafa?”

“Easy answer, I’m selfish and live here too, I wanted you close.”

Javi’s confession was not without something in his eyes that made your heart skip a beat and your face feel warm, you found yourself nodding and looking away from his face at the intensity in his expression.

“Is… is there anyone who might be jealous? That I’m going to be so close to you?” As you’d gotten older and met new people you had your fair share of partners, and you knew Javi had too, but all of them had tried to convince you to give up your ambitions and wanderlust to stay and you’d walked away from all of them. At the time you hadn’t put much thought into the why, you had wanted to travel and see the world instead of become chained down to a place, but now you knew that your heart had been waiting for you to come home.

“No, there isn’t, because nobody I found myself caring for came close to making me as happy as you do. None of them encouraged my adventures, my dreams, or let me be who I am without trying to change me; this whole time I told myself that I could find someone but I always knew I was waiting for you.” His confession made your face warm more, you felt like you might float away, and when Javi tipped your chin up so gently you went willingly.

It was a soft kiss, a chaste one, and like something out of a story book with how your chest exploded with Cutieflies. Javi’s big brown eyes were warm and affectionate as you parted, just resting your foreheads together to giggle in sheer delight, and then he was slotting his mouth to yours as one of your hands buried itself in his curls and the two of you stumbled blindly toward your new bed.

Javi had invited you to spend the day with him at the olive farm and you couldn’t help but grin as you two walked together, racing ahead of you were both of your first Pokémon -a pair of Eevee, his was a rare coloration and yours was not- just enjoying the sunshine of Paldea. Arizona -his Eevee- and Poe -your Eevee- came from the same Pokémon breeder from different pairs and had evidently been believed to be a bonded pair, when Javi’s father had purchased Arizona he’d planned to give Poe to Javi’s cousin Lucas until the other young man refused the offer and demanded something else. Javi had given Poe to you instead with his parent’s approval, since you’d gone to the same schools and been friends since your toddler ages.

Seeing the two of them together again truly made it feel like home.

“So, not to bring up something unpleasant, but why haven’t I seen Lucas around?” Javi’s cousin was not a kind man, he could fake it sometimes and he could be polite but Lucas was never kind with any sincerity. You had never gotten along with him, he would constantly belittle you for being from a ‘poor’ family and try to claim you weren’t going to amount to anything.

“Lucas has been handling other affairs for the family, I do not know when he’ll return.” The answer didn’t tell you much but there had always been something… off about Javi’s family. You hadn’t ever been able to explain it, honestly, but Javi was kind and genuine so you’d never thought twice about things like that growing up. Now, however, that you’d seen more of the world and grown up a lot -and potentially would get involved if this thing between you and Javi continued to blossom- you knew it was time to ask these questions.

“Oh? Is it- is he okay?” The way his tone had gotten tighter, something between nerves and annoyance, had you worried.

“Yes, yes he’s okay it’s just… complicated.” Your brows rose and you knew, that he knew, you wanted an explanation. Javi all but tugged you off the path and away from prying ears and eyes, a few whistles from the employees tending the trees might have made you roll your eyes if it was actually for intimate reasons that he wanted you out of sight. Javi glanced around when the pair of you stopped finally, the open area empty of anyone that might overhear what you were saying.

“Have you heard that recently there have been reports of thieves in Paldea, members of Team Rocket have begun making an appearance?” You hadn’t actually heard that, shaking your head gently and frowning, you had gone against Giovanni and won -he should definitely be in prison with the other leaders of the various organizations that you’d defeated throughout the years- so you were under the belief that Team Rocket had been dissolved. Javi sighed and began pacing, looking so upset that you captured his hand in both of yours, making him look at you.

“Tell me what’s going on, Javi.” His eyes met yours and you couldn’t shake that he looked afraid, he looked sad and afraid and it wasn’t ever an expression you wanted to see on him.

“My family has been slowly building back Team Rocket here in Paldea, Lucas is stealing and illegally selling Pokémon, I only learned this when father decided I was old enough to know the truth in my mid twenties, but because I am friends with you he decided Lucas would handle that side of the business while I ran the Olive Groves as the face of the family. I’ve tried many times to tell someone, anyone, the truth but Lucas’ influence runs deeper into the officers than I thought. He- he tried to steal Arizona from me and threatened to have you killed if I didn’t comply.”

Your blood ran cold through your veins before it ignited into a fury of heat, anger at being used to force Javi to comply to what he clearly didn’t want to do and knowing that he was put into this impossible situation to begin with, and Javi looked like a kicked Yamper as he waited for your reply.

“Thank you for telling me the truth, I’m going to have to figure out how much of the League and the Academy is corrupted, but Javi I promise you that I’m going to get you out of this mess. I will not allow the man I love to be held prisoner by his own family, nor will I allow them to use my life as a means of control.” His relief was clear as day and Javi kissed you so chastely, so softly, with gratitude that you made a vow that you’d set him free for good.

Kineil Plays: Hogwarts Legacy - 2/7/23 - Pre-game prep

So I got up early to get everything done before playing, including downloading the game

Space required is 72.92 GB this should be good

“estimation 3 hours” – this reminds me did I ever download ARK?

Also considering my internet server tends to have a fit when I do big downloads...this should take a while (never use Breezeline nee Atlantic Broadband they suck)

Skimming through the license agreement and I love how positive the “in the unlikely event of a problem with your game” language is

Like yeah it might go blooey but we hope not

Also seizure warnings which is probably a standard warning for games but in thinking of how the spell are animated in the movies I can understand this particular bit of cover our ascots language

And I understand that there’s also some sort of anti-piracy thing…Denuvo, which a lot of people are leery about and I can’t say I blame them

EA Games, which Warner Brother used to license to (which is also the reason you’re never going to see a rerelease of the early HP games, too many legal tangles) had some sort of anti-piracy thing too, but in EA’s case (especially with Spore)…you only had so many installs, so if you got a new computer or lost your old save file because of a virus or something you were SOL and needed to buy an entirely new copy

Since games generally go for $60 a pop, people were understandably upset

And real talk, if this Denuvo does something like that to me because I keep all my save files on an external drive, I will be first in line for whatever mod patch cracks it

I get why they might want an anti-piracy thing in place, especially for this game all things considered, not to mention the current mindset a lot of people seem to have about not paying for services rendered (which is especially something that plagues any aspect of the arts and entertainment industries), but there’s a big fat line between covering your bases and alienating your audience that’s got to be considered

I feel like part of the blame can be attributed to the death of rental stores, tbh, since now people can’t test out games first to see if they’ll like them or not

Anywho my intent with this review series is to go through an entire playthrough from start to finish, maybe later on I’ll try to do it through the other houses because my understanding is that there’s unique story beats for every single Hogwarts house so that’s cool

Now to make sure I actually finish the playthrough because I have the habit of really enjoying a game and then never finishing it

Which is apparently a recent development because I used to be good at finishing and replaying games

Part don’t want the experience to end and part been burned too many times by modern games (glare at Pokémon’s post-game, or lack thereof). “Replayability? What’s that??? Only CONSUME”

While we’re talking about mindsets to get out of, the whole treat everything as disposable, replaceable, and transient really needs to be disposed, replaced, and transitioned out of

Okay it’s still going along so I’ll go finish everything else I need to do so I can play guilt-free

Was going to cook dinner tonight but Mom knows how much I’ve been looking forward to this game so she proposed leftovers instead and I’m okay with that

Pokémon Reborn Screenshot Let's Play: Chapter 5

Welcome back once again! I hope the season has been treating everyone well, I’ve certainly been having a fun time, and it’s about to get even more fun because I’m back here to play some more Pokémon! Specifically this fan game! Because people still appear to be enjoying this playthrough, despite my nature as a casual player coming in to bite me on more than one occasion (I’m sure this will not change as the game progresses).

Last time, we didn’t get a ton of plot progression done (save for the very end, technically), but this time…

(Future Edit: Well, this time’s gonna be VERY different. Because this chapter is technically incomplete- it’s part of a double-feature! The first part of an exciting two-parter! What in the world am I talking about? Well, er- let me explain…)

(See, in this most recent play session, some MEATY plot progression happens, and I thought “hey, I’ll go a bit longer to give the people story stuff after two chapters of mostly filler”, yeah? But I severely underestimated just how big this story beat was…by like a lot. The number of parts for what would have been just this one chapter was building up, lot of images and screenshots, it would have exceeded the amount of links you’re allowed to put on one Tumblr post, and I think it was making Google Docs (where I write the rough versions of these chapters) and Firefox crash?)

(And if you think I could just leave the area, go to the Pokémon Center to save and exit, all that jazz, uh- I can’t. I think it’s one of those events where you can’t really leave the area until you’ve done what needs to be done, you can’t just leave and come back, if you know what I mean. And like- I wasn’t planning on leaving anyways, again, it was like “I’ll do this plot thing then close out the chapter”, but yet again!! I didn’t realize what I was making Xera walk into!)

(So, for both technical reasons and to make sure it wouldn’t take a month to get any new content to all of you, I made the executive decision to split this chapter into two- Chapters 5 and 6. Chapter 5 is going up today- obviously- but Chapter 6 will be finished and put together at a later date. But until then, at least, you’ll all have this to tide yourselves over with! Just keep all of these outside circumstances in mind if things and commentary seem a little more anachronistic than usual- that’ll likely explain why. Never let it be said I’m not transparent with readers about how scuffed this Let’s Play is sometimes.)

But before we can get to ANY of that- how about a recap of what did happen in the last chapter?

The chapter was set to a backdrop of the game’s first weather event in the form of Rain, boosting Water-type moves and weakening Fire-type moves- both a help and hindrance to the team.

Xera goes to Seacrest’s Garden again to catch Summer the Sunkern for the upcoming battle against local Electric-type Gym Leader Julia.

Going into a nearby apartment building, Xera sees a boy trying to heal an injured Skitty. She gives an Oran Berry to the boy’s grandma, who passes it on to her grandson to successfully heal the Skitty. Since the boy is too young to be able to raise a Pokémon himself, the grandma asks if Xera would be willing to take in Skitty, which she accepts. The Skitty is named Whiskers.

Xera explores the central area of Peridot Ward, battling Trainers and training up Summer and Whiskers along the way.

There’s a guy in one house who is willing to trade away a pink Pokémon of some sort for a Bibarel. We make a note of this for later, maybe.

Xera learns from a few NPCs that Jasper Ward- a ward of Reborn City that is Peridot Ward’s northern neighbor- has been completely locked down for unknown reasons.

In a nearby tunnel, Xera does parkour to obtain an item called a Data Chip. No idea what this is for right now.

Interacting with a murky fountain, Xera encounters Rain the Surskit…but catching her was delayed (i.e. we had to reset) due to a lack of Poké Balls during this initial encounter.

There appears to be conflict between Trainers on the “West Side” of Peridot Ward and those on the “East Side.” Xera goes through the west side first, battling those Trainers along the way.

Xera finds the woman with the disobedient Stufful again. Despite having several Common Candies by now, the woman will not use them due to the belief that candy is bad for Pokémon. No idea how to solve her Stufful problem in that case.

Next to an abandoned building, Xera finds a young man with mint-green hair interrogating a person in an armored suit. However, as Xera walks up to see what is happening, the suited man is able to escape the mint-haired person.

The mint-haired guy is named Fern, and he is this game’s third rival. Fern doesn’t take kindly to Xera interrupting his interrogation of the suited man, who he claims is the culprit behind the Grandview Station bombing. Blaming Xera for the culprit getting away, Fern forces her into a Pokémon battle.

Turns out, we’re underleveled for this! Fern’s team of Lv. 13-14 Pokémon does a number on Xera’s Lv. 11 team. Since I don’t want any of Xera’s Pokémon to lose to someone as arrogant as Fern, we reset so Xera can go do some more training before attempting to challenge Fern again.

And so, that’s where we are now. Our first priority is to head to the east area of Peridot Ward and challenge the East Side Trainers, which should hopefully get the party to where it needs to be so we can not only defeat Fern, but do so without letting him have the satisfaction of knocking out any of Xera’s Pokémon in turn. He’ll see- they’ll ALL see! EVERYONE’S GONNA SEE! So, without further ado, let’s get going!

(Future Edit: For this particular chapter, the split won’t really affect anything besides the stuff that usually goes at the very end- eh, you’ll see what I mean when you get there.)

Hearing “cringey” in a Pokémon game is like hearing “True dat” in a Sonic the Hedgehog game. It feels so off.

At least you don’t have to deal with any serious charges.

This TM would have made more sense to be given by Penny if her ace Pokémon were a Dragon Type evolution for Eevee.

And that’s the end of that. Still can’t believe they’ll never let go of the whole twist villian thing they’ve been using since Sun and Moon. It was interesting at first. But now, it’s become so predictable that I thought Cassiopeia was actually Penny by the time I beat Eri. (And I was right.)

Isn’t there some sort of browser on your Rotom Phone? Don’t you have any dictionaries lying around? Because I’ve never heard of the word cheugy either. Until a few days ago, that is.

Yeah. It’s pretty lame.

I’ve heard ultra adds some stuff too very eyes emoji. a more experimental one but kirby mass attack I have a really soft spot for. such a charmingly odd game, really creative.

super scribblenauts is one I haven’t played in forever so mileage may vary but I still remember so fondly. wacky little puzzle game that brings to life most any noun you can think of, and those nouns can be adjusted by most any adjective you can think of! not art based like little me yearned it to be sadly or luckily depending

pokémon mystery dungeon: explorers of time/darkness/sky is an easy classic of course; good dungeon crawling rpg fantastic story as I’m sure you’ve heard murmurings of before. for straight pokémon game pokémon black/white is also one to check out!! still need to beat it proper but twas my first pokémon game there’s some rad stuff

kid icarus: uprising can be a little hard to get into with a unique control scheme and gameplay rhythm but the writing/story/characters are sooooo good I love it SO much am always thinking about it.

continuing kirby reccs kirby triple deluxe and kirby planet robobot are SO GOOD. SO GOOD such good kirby games robobot in particular is up there for me with forgotten land and super star I can almost promise you’d love these. soso fun.

contractually obligated as I’m on a big zelda kick rn /silly (and also they’re very good games) legend of zelda: a link between worlds and legend of zelda: ocarina of time 3d is some of the best first zelda games out there. exceptional entries encompasing both the 2d and 3d style of games respectively, really good puzzle/action/adventure games with fun stories and and I like them :]

With Guzma/team skull, a lot of it feels, real. They took over a town, and its said that they were all people who failed their trial challenges/in general are considered loosers/less fortunate in life. And they're just doing their best to impress each other/help each other/just try to survive as best they can. Its Kind of a sad situation.

Guzma frequently talks of beating you, the protagonist. When you see his home, you can see he earned many trophies (But never first place), and his father I think says similar lines or similar threats or something. His father has a set of bent golf clubs, leading people to presume he took out his anger with violence, teaching Guzma that action. (Though its not a uncommon theory that his dad attacked him with those golf clubs. )

He was never really 'evil' in the games. Rather working for Lusamine as she was one of the few people to offer any sort of affection/kindness to him, that wasn't outright pity. You get the feeling he's just being used/manipulated by someone who's used to using and manipulating others.

(as a sidenote theres so much neat small stuff about alola I love. And theorize about. One being that I think the islands with Tapu Bulu and Tapu lele switched places at one point))

Regarding this ask about Guzma

Oh dear :( that’s very sad! From the parts I did play of my copy of Moon, I did get the vibes that they weren’t really meant to be taken seriously/weren’t a serious threat, but I didn’t know how much of that was just Pokémon being a kids franchise, and how much of that was narrative. But man that is sad, I didn’t know a lot of that :(

Guzma’s situation with his father and Lusamine are very sad too, man!! Especially with Lusamine. Sounds like he just wants support and positive company. Get him some!!!!

(And ohh, that’s an interesting theory!! Everyone who I’ve talked to about Sun/Moon says it’s good and that they love it and it’s features too!! Maybe I should pick up my copy and finish from where I left off ^^)

So, after playing Pokémon violet (STELLAR –pun intended- game), I started playing let’s go Pikachu again.

I’ve never actually finished it or any Kanto game (please forgive me) but today I was determined to beat it! I found something strange though.

I was revisiting the Pokémon tower because of some weird side quest from that creepy NPC in the Articuno cave and I decided to try out some old playground rumor.

I don’t know if it’s that well known, so I'll say how it went:

You fill your party with only Ghastlys and approach both sides of the “purified and protected space”

with the player and support trainer, then... Something will happen?

Well, I decided to test that out.

Here are some strange happenings:

•My right joycon couldn’t run to the left which meant I had to properly lean into it to get anywhere fast which made it really annoying because I'd run too far into Pokémon and waste time :/ (I usually play with pro controller so I don’t know if that’s normal or not)

•My Pikachu looked sad or worried when I interacted with it before even getting to Lavendar town

•When I was catching a few Ghastlys to test it, the room started spawning only large haunters (is this alluding somehow?)

So, I set up all of my Ghastlys

And went to the “protected and purified space”

And then attempted it with the support trainer.

So, not only did my game crash, my switch crashed. I opened it up a bit later to play splatoon

but it wouldn’t turn on until I manually changed the cartridges, weird

I'll update soon when I'm not busy as there are big auditions for a thing tomorrow (wish me luck please)

been playing a fuckton of Pokémon recently, finally finished Pokémon Legends: Arceus after like a year or whatever of putting it off. I can confidently say that Arceus is one of my favorite Pokémon games, for sure

I’ve been an avid Pokémon gamer since I was an idiot baby toddler infant, but I would be lying if I said that I didn’t think that most of these games are lazy cash grabs. they were crazy cool at one point in time—likely long before I was born—but Game Freak is fucking allergic to any kind of lasting innovation, so all of these games are kind of the exact same shit but with a different one-off gimmick, because that apparently justifies paying $60 for some shit that everyone has played every year since the 90’s

Pokémon Legends: Arceus struck me as a $60 tech demo when I first got my hands on it and I kinda resented the game for that. “cool, I just paid like half a week’s groceries to beta test some shit for the next gen. thanks Game Freak!”

but the more I played it, the more fond of it I grew. there were so many points during my playthrough where I legitimately forgot that I was playing a Pokémon game. some of the boss fights had me thinking, “holy shit, this isn’t a Pokémon game, this is a real video game!”

there’s a lot of content in this game, as well. it’s a really cozy and easy Pokémon sandbox, which is all that I’ve wanted from this franchise for years. there are a bunch of issues, but man, the core gameplay loop of Arceus was so addictive and fun that I could look past them pretty confidently

I think that if this game spent another year or two baking in the oven, it could’ve been something truly special, like Breath of the Wild, but again, Game Freak is allergic to making good shit. if some of the mechanics were given more depth, it could’ve been a lot better! breeding would’ve been nice!

but regardless of any criticisms I may have, I did finish a complete living dex in this game, because whenever I play a Pokémon game some devil in my soul forces me to do this. it is not my choice

anyways here’s proof of this living dex, not like anyone asked but something about seeing it documented brings me a great deal of personal satisfaction. this includes all the legendaries and mythicals in the game, because luckily for me, I didn’t delete my BDSP save data before selling the game on eBay lol

yeah! awesome! cool! I also finished a SWSH living dex a year or so ago, and that was a fucking quest. SWSH is kind of a really bad game, but I’ve got nearly 200 hours in it so I can say that confidently.

in conclusion, I have been breeding for a shiny Stufful for literally a year and a half and haven’t gotten one yet, so I hate Pokémon and will never play it again <3

So…last TTRPG character is still in the works. But I’ve started a different project (possible ADHD? I dunno, I’m all over the place in any case). I have decided to play one of my Pokémon games as a Nuzlocke Challenge. For the uninitiated, a Nuzlocke is a special Pokémon challenge where you play the game under special rules intended to make the game more challenging and interesting. Typically this involves removing any defeated Pokémon from your party permanently and severely limiting your catching options.

The game I’ll be playing for this is Pokémon Yellow Version. This is the “Y” in the RBY Generation 1 game acronym for international releases. It is also heavily influenced by the anime tv show and thus has Pikachu on the box and the sole starter Pokémon. As Ash in the anime finds out, there are some challenges to having a Pikachu that refuses to evolve as your main. Unlike in the anime, I don’t really get protagonist protection or goofy logic to help me out at all. Anywho, time to set out the rules.

Rules:

1. If any of my Pokémon faint, they are boxed and transferred. For this Nuzlocke “lore”, when Pokémon are defeated, they are honor-bound to never fight again (Gary, you dishonorable monster! This is why Raticate leaves you!).

2. I get one catchable encounter per route/location (towns are included). This will be my first encounter in each location only. If it is a Pokémon I have already caught, too bad. Gift Pokémon are just that—gifts for me to use, so fossils and Lapras are viable and are exceptions to this rule.

3. I must have Pokéballs for an encounter to count. If I can’t catch the first Pokémon I find, why should that count against me? I’m not trying to punish myself for playing Pokémon.

4. In-game trade Pokémon are allowed only if I get the one needed for the trade—I can’t manipulate the encounters to shoot for the Pokémon I want.

5. For a slightly harder challenge, no TM’s. They are all but essential in a safe Gen 1 run, but with the exceptions I’ve made to other rules, I can’t justify them.

6. Healing outside of a Pokémon Center is allowed only once per battle. If another Pokémon needs it, too bad. In-battle boosters like X-Attack are allowed.

7. It is okay to get so frustrated that I restart and try again. Life continues regardless.

With that in mind, let’s finish setting the stage.

Ah…Gen 1. So broken, so fun, so glad I originally started in Gen II when they fixed some of the problems like Psychic types having no effective counter and general stat spreads/special attack and defense being split. However, I’ll be darned if I’m not using the speed=crits to my advantage! (A Pokémon’s critical hit chance in Generation 1 games was heavily affected by that Pokémon’s speed stat. Higher speed meant more critical hits.) Moves just hit different back then.

Moves were just different back then too. Many moves either worked differently or were completely different types from what we’re used to now. And I’m not just talking about how Dark, Steel, and Fairy didn’t exist; some moves just didn’t have the right typing. Gust and Karate Chop were both Normal type for example instead of Flying and Fighting respectively. But the “beauty” comes in when Wrap and Hyper Beam are involved. Wrap (and similar trapping moves) would utterly end the opponent’s movements, and if you got a faint on Hyper Beam, there would be no recharge as it’s supposed to work. You know what? I’ll just link the Smogon article on the subject and let y’all read at your leisure.

A Year in Review!

Well, this has... been a year, hasn’t it? A lot of ups, and a lot of downs, both to the wider world and personally. But, with that last digit moving on up, I’m gonna take a moment to look back on what this year meant for me, and what 2023 means moving forward!

First, well... Meet me! I haven’t been very active on this account until about half way through 2022, so anyone looking around knows pretty much nothing about me. Since I plan to be way more active this coming year, let me shed some light!

I’m Void, but I also like the name Coda, if you’re so inclined. I mostly go by She/Her, but I’m experimenting a bit with She/They, so either work for me. I’m aromantic asexual, and damn does that feel nice to say with confidence.

I draw all sorts of stuff, but I mostly dabble and practice in character and creature design. I love dragons, monsters and horror creatures, fantasy and D&D, Sci-fi and aliens, and writing and worldbuilding!

I’m not squeamish or over sensitive by any stretch, but too much of anything is a bummer, ain’t it? And while I’m not sex repulsed, please keep your kinks to yourself.

I drew quite a few things for personal projects that I never got to post (and I’m not quite allowed to yet), I do have some highlights to share!

This was actually one of the earliest pieces I drew this year, back in January. I posted it to Twitter, but not here on Tumblr.

Here’s a character design I made for a short horror game project for school during my Spring semester. I call him Old Mr. Smiler, and he just wants to keep a... close eye on you.

This here is Patches! I think if you go back far enough on this blog, an older version of him is back there somewhere. I made him with the idea of “What would I do if I made a children’s show?” So, Patches!

Smaugust, now that was a fun challenge! I know it took quite a while to finish it, but I’m glad I did. Here are my top 5 favorites from the batch in no particular order. I think I’d like to do it again this year, and hopefully get it done on time, maybe with a more specific secondary prompt list. This whole batch reminded my how much I loved dragons, they’re what got me into drawing. So, I think I’ll indulge much more this next year.

And finally, how could I leave out a representative from my Kirby art collection? My actual favorite pieces I’ve done I can’t show y’all yet, but I think the one that started it all is a good stand in. It’s been a fun character design exercise, taking a game with characters that are mostly just circles and making humanoid designs out of them. Also helped that I had a lot of Thoughts about the Kirby series, enough to form it into its own AU, that I’m having a blast writing.

So, what should you expect now that I’m looking to be more active this year? While I can’t promise much in the beginning, I’m graduating in May (hopefully), so we’ll see where things take me. I’m hoping to carve out much more regular time for myself this time around.

First, lets start with my fan content! I have a lot of fandoms and interest. To name a few, we have Kirby (of course), but also Undertale, the Owl House, Hades, Pokémon, Dungeons and Dragons, Good Omens, and Animal Crossing! I’m hoping to show my love of all of these series. Some might pop up more than others, but I’m hoping to show some more stuff off.

Of course I’ll be continuing to expand on the Kirby Incarnations AU. But did you know I have an Undertale AU? I’ve been drawing and writing for it for years now, just not posting it here much. I’ll be fixing that of course, look out for the Funny Things AU tag.

As much as I love fan work, I do have my own personal projects and characters I want to play with and explore. Writing and drawing bring me so much joy, and I hope to share that with everyone.

As a fun exercise, throughout the year, I’ll be trying to draw every card from the Major Arcana of the Tarot deck. Tarot has always fascinated me, so I’ll be essentially drawing my own deck. Maybe I’ll do an end of year reading, who knows? Expect those about twice a month (hopefully!!!!!!!).

I actually have a massive world building project I’d love to show my art and writing for. I have a fun character with a colorful life I’d love to explore with anyone who’s interested.

He’s a nerd, he’s a queer trans man, he’s traveled around his world, and he lives his midlife dream with his husband and twin daughters as a professor and staunch labor rights activist. What’s not to like?

I’ll probably set up an ask blog for that specifically, so keep an eye out for that announcement!

I’m actually a Game Development major in school, and I’ve been neck deep in my senior thesis (hence my disappearance since August). I’m the Creative Director for a team of 13, and we’re all working hard to complete a fun little stealth puzzle experience called Sintern! I’m hoping to share more details and the character concept art I made for it as it gets closer to completion. And, possibly, answer some questions about Game Development to anyone who wants my perspective.

I learned how to use Zbrush in the Fall semester.

It’s honestly been the most fun I’ve had in school in so long, and I think I’ve found my career passion. Likewise, I’m going to be practicing and developing my portfolio. I’ll share some process and glamor shots with y’all, from concept to completion!

Exactly what it sounds like. I want to improve my art, find my weaknesses, and address them! So, expect anatomy studies, object studies, background studies, color pallet experiments, all sorts of stuff!
