i’ve seen this assertion and tweets like it several times so let’s actually check the text, shall we! first, what he is referencing is this moment during the war games in son of neptune:

notice how it says he’s fighting in “a completely unorthodox style” unlike how a roman would fight and this is why they aren’t prepared for his assault. it also says the sheer novelty of losing has thrown the defense into chaos. now considering jason is considered a sword master and spent MONTHS with the greeks, it’s safe to assume he’d have trained in their sword fighting methods. yes jason trained in one specific style of combat but so did percy, we just never see a situation where jason has to sword fight all of the greeks. in fact, he even says in house of hades that he struggled with the strict rules of the romans

now let’s get to the meat and potatoes: who would actually win in a fair fight? many people assert percy could and use this quote from mark of athena as evidence:

now if we look at this, we may think this proves anything but it doesn’t. two teenage boys having a pissing contest and each saying they’re better than the other is not evidence that either one actually is. so here’s the relevant parts of the fight that they’re talking about, which happens right before that scene

jason and percy are fighting and jason knocks percy off of his horse with a lightning blast (i would argue that bouncing lightning off of your sword is not predictable). he has his sword six inches from percy’s face when piper distracts him with charmspeak. this gives percy time to recover and he is able to sweep his legs under jason, making him hit his head and fall unconscious. percy almost kills jason until piper is able to charmspeak him. now piper is clearly a variable in this fight seeing as she stopped each of them from killing the other so if you take her out, what happens? easy. jason stabs percy through the face and wins. it is only because piper stopped jason in the first place that percy even had a chance to get that close to killing him at all. sure they are both highly skilled fighters and had he not used lightning, jason might not have won, but he did use the lightning because he has it along with flight and being able to harness air. percy discovered in tartarus that he was able to bend poison to kill akhlys; what happens when jason realizes he can pull the air from peoples’ lungs?

i understand percy is everyone’s favorite but can we please use our brains from time to time? yall hate jason for not being percy and refuse to acknowledge anything that makes him interesting because you base all of your info off of the lost hero in which he spends the majority of the book without a memory so OBVIOUSLY he wouldn’t be super interesting to read. even in his first chapter of the lost hero, he is knocking the socks off of his opponents AND by the end of the book, already learning greek fighting techniques of slashing rather than stabbing

anyway idk how to wrap this up i just want yall to acknowledge that jason is OP

I know it’s all just standards.

But Ringo’s Sentimental Journey is utterly charming.

We really should talk more about how he turns to this project as therapy as the band is falling apart. It’s pure nostalgia in a bottle but with Ringo jazz drumming and just having fun with it singing and adding these cute little improv bits. Blues Turning Grey Over You is a highlight for the “I just lost myself there, child!” laugh at the end.

It’s all utterly charming.

It’s a really cool collaboration too. He recruited different musicans arrange each piece (including Paul, who arranged Stardust, perhaps before the breakup drama heats up). George Martin produces and gets the big band together. They start recording more sporadically at first, starting Oct 1969. Night and Day, Stormy Weather (which got left off the final album but I love he tried it), Stardust, and Dream, all recorded before Christmas. The rest are Jan-Mar 1970.

It gets ripped to shreds by the rock cred sector. But Ringo using this as a grief project, sorta returning to childhood in the midst of a blow for comfort, feels more honest and healthy than he gets credit for. It’s also brassy af. This is the height of “fuck jazz,” and Ringo’s just like “so what? I’ll do what I like.”

George said he liked it. John slagged him off for it in interviews, but I bet he secretly liked it too. Not sure whether Paul ever commented on it given the dual release drama. He does his own standards album decades later, after it becomes a thing artists do. But when Ringo does it in 1970? No one was doing that.

Ugh, sometimes I look into Miles' comment sections and feel so bad for him.

I don't think I need the disclaimer if you know my blog - but just in case. Yes, I love TLSP. As a band - they're in my very top of favorites (next to a bunch of dead people bands). As people - I'm fascinated by them both apart and together.

But I can't bear seeing the amount of people who ignore Miles himself and his solo stuff to just shout "GIVE US TLSP3" / "DO THIS SONG WITH ALEX" at him. Lord, get a grip people. If you love the band so much - be nice and considerate to one of its actual frontmen.

He's talented in his own right. Very. We need more respect and appreciation for that.

The Bloodline Appreciation Post:

Don't know what's gonna happen Saturday August 5th.

Just wanna say I appreciate and acknowledge Our Tribal Chief Roman Reigns.

What I appreciate about Roman's reign is that he elevated not only Jimmy, Solo and Jey during his reign. He made Sami Zayn a main eventer. Most of these fans didn't pay attention to Sami before.

Fans just saw him as KO"s buddy and sidekick.

He elevated others too. That match he had against Montez Ford is why people keep saying Montez is gonna be a future singles champion.

I don't think some people really appreciate what he does. If they see it or want to admit it. He isn't a selfish performer. He has no problem with giving his opponent the spotlight, letting them display their strengths.

All some critics and fans talk about is that he's been Champion for 3 years or the ridiculous complaint about him cheating. He's a heel. All heels cheat.

Roman's reign is historic, epic, unprecedented (especially in this era) and creative. Never a dull moment. This man, this family has kept things consistently entertaining for 3 years.

Instead of trying to find fault with it acknowledge the greatness they have given us because it's not gonna happen again. Not on this level.

this year I might actually be able to participate in fanfic writers appreciation day on august 21st! :3 I'll try to make a long-ish trigun fic rec list since I've actually read and bookmarked more trigun fics than in any of my past fandoms hehe.
