Soundwave is a powerhouse and an enigma and we don't talk about it enough so i'mma just gonna make a compilation of "how the hell did he do that" and "what the hell is he" moments that i've managed to find from across several transformers continuities

first off is from the first IDW comic continuity

this is never explained, so i can only assume its because soundwave is technically an outlier but i haven't seen a panel that shows other outliers having "off the scale" readings, whatever that means.

and then in the last moments of this continuity he sacrifices himself to save the universe/earth by using his outlier ability along with the enigma of combination to essentially connect the dead to the living in the entire galaxy for a hot minute . idk how the hell he did that or how he knew to do that, my money is on bad writing but i digress.

next up Transformers Prime

tfp fans: elaborate on that. tfp writers: no. transformers prime soundwave is definitely a powerhouse and an enigma for several reasons but number one is this god damn scene with ratchet exclaiming soundwave isn't your standard cybertronian and then to my frustration the show refuses to explain why.

also he can open portals. the only explanation for that is in the novels where he actually was part of the invention of spacebridge technology. i guess he could've incorporated that into himself, which frankly is kinda unheard of in of itself. but still I feel inclined to tell him that skywarp called and they want their powers back.

Next, we have the game Transformers: fall of cybertron. where he scavenges together all of megatrons parts and puts him back together which, yeah sure why not? it's essentially like putting a corpse back together but then he just REVIVES HIM??

with his mind completely intact despite having been decimated by Metroplex and being dead for several hours. excuse me sir but that shouldn't be possible. I guess I could just chop it up to the writers being a bit loosey goosey with their own rules for the world but it's still quite a feat. but thinking back to G1 where he did the same thing with skyfire I guess they assumed it's just something he can do?

although skyfire's revival was a bit more reasonable considering he was still in one piece and frozen solid which they explained to be the reason as to why he was kept intact. but I'm assuming that's why the writers were like "well let's just have him do the same thing for megatron" and everyone was like yeah okay why not. also like a lot of things in G1 this inbuilt high voltage canon/defibrillator is never brought up again which is hilarious and par for the course for G1.

there are several more moments throughout all the tf continuities where soundwave just does something inexplicable but these are a some of the moments that stuck out to me the most. I welcome others to add onto this post if they wish. because I'm sure I've missed some "how the hell did he do that" moments that would be a shame not to bring up.

Small tidbits about my Still Into You 2ha animatic

Coz it's April, exactly one year from now was when I started completing it and I'm in the mood now. + I don't think I made a proper one + it won the twitter poll

Check it out if you're interested... or not! I just want to dump my thoughts and fun facts that I thought of while making this.

To preface this, check them out if you haven't seen it yet: (Still Into You & Please Don't Leave Me)

If you've been hanging around my blog for a while, it's kinda evident that I did post a promo post for Still Into You back in January 2023. And that first part does have an in-depth explanation about what it covers (which is from the start to the first chorus).

If you're wondering why: TL;DR I can't work on An Act of Kindness coz I was back home from school for vacation and I thought of the idea during a trip.

Anyway, I ramble. Time to get to the actual discussion.

(spoilers!!) The Actual Discussion

Making the rest of Still Into You, unlike Mo Ran's feelings for CWN, was actually just straightforward. I already knew that it'd cover the rest of the book, given that I intentionally focused heavily on book 1 while making part 1.

Like part 1, part 2 was that type of animatic that just naturally flowed during the storyboarding and rough sketch process. The whole animatic is divided into three phases which covers the following: Book 1, Book 2 and 3, and lastly the Epilogue.

Book 1 I've already discussed in an earlier post here but I did find this interesting tidbit I wrote to my cousin:

Yeah I really wish I have a funny image to put here. I'm really enjoying looking back at my stuff and seeing my initial plans though.

Order at which I made each part.

One thing of note (and actually a common oversight I experience while doing storyboards coz I don't do timings) was that I storyboarded the frames when the vocals started and forgot the timings in between.

So I kinda had to fill the parts between part 1 and 2 last-ish? (don't really remember the proper timings).

Oh, oh! And another fun fact:

Still Into You Part 2 (Rough Draft)

Part 2 was initially done on my tablet in CSP so there's a whole different and rougher version of it. (pls lower the volume if you're wearing earphones)

Funnily enough, this took me like one sitting to finish and a whole lot of sessions to clean up. I do like this process though given that, around the time I drew this, I started leaning heavily into animation and prioritizing getting my thoughts across without care for cleanliness. (Something I felt held me back too much while making Please Don't Leave Me).

In fact, there are some obvious frames that I didn't really bother polishing up (mostly because they're too hard for me or they just flash by quickly). A glaring example is this frame from the third part:

Another fun fact about the scene where TXJ shows CWN the plant he's been raising is it's actually inspired off of a doodle I made for someone in the Two Lifetimes CSE back in April 16 2023.

I just really think that it's super adorable for them. Mo Ran in the the epilogue section alternates between TXJ and 2.0.

Aside from the plant, TXJ also appears in this frame which is inspired from one of the extras. Another silly intentional decision I did is to have him pour alcohol onto a cup and drink from the bottle.

The one on the left is also from (you guessed it) an extra! It's based from an offhand mention that CWN makes in one of them. (Let me know what your guesses are haha)

I kinda just jumped into the 3rd half of the song, huh? I hope my ramblings aren't too much! I just wanna let it flow naturally.

Returning to the topic of the storyboard, I really only had a rough idea of what I wanted for the 3rd half. The references to the extras and even Goutou's appearance just came when I was already putting it into frame. Like, this was what I initially had in mind for the 2nd chorus to the end.

I think one of the notable differences is that I initially planned on doing the half MR half CWN screen transition the same way i did with chorus 1 and 2 but decided against it. In retrospect, I think it fits a lot because both aren't divided anymore.

Something about the second verse + chorus of the song

Like in chorus 1 and chorus 3, this section of the song takes on a darker tone since it covers book 2 going into book 3. It's a lot to talk about so I'm gonna select a couple that I personally like that's worth mentioning and leave the rest to the viewers to guess.

Also sorry not sorry for those who got spoiled by the animatic lmao.

The confession scene

Another fun fact: The confession scene in Still Into You and Please Don't Leave Me are intentionally connected through the color palette.

It's just that Still Into You takes a dump at how it treats it. Yes, the stick figures are intentional. It adds to the funny and tbh Still Into You really is just a feel good animatic. The comedy also serves as a whiplash to the angst hell that is the chorus 🥰.

My Favorite 2ha Moment

Gotta insert my favorite chapter here (ch 184) which I think is one of 2ha's peaks because it resolves CWN's doubts about MR's feelings all this times.

And I'm just soo glad I could incorporate it in an animatic because it's so important to me. AND Like, 'yknow, I think it echoes the song very well because guess what MR tells CWN then?

“It has always been you."

That one frame before the chorus

There's like this moment before the second chorus starts where MR tells CWN something. I wanted it to echo ch 207 where MR felt the pressure of having to reveal that he actually is reborn and has memories of his past life.

If this were animated I'd have had MR match the song and tell CWN "I'm still into you".

Anyways, here's the frame before it zooms in. Physically it's still at ch 207, but I wanted the shadows to imply what happens next which is the chorus.

Other Bonus stuff

Ran out of stuff I wanna gush about so Imma talk about cut content.

XM and the MHX twins are supposed to have more frames (I didn't include it because it felt like it had too much energy)

"Oops" Episode Rambles

I rewatched the episode for the sake of my rewrite post (plus I just wanted to see the final animation, credit where it's due, the show is fun to look at sometimes), and decided to share my thoughts since I haven't done that for an episode in a while:

Ngl, I'm honestly really indifferent towards Fizzmodeus, like I get that it's most people's positive for this episode but I honestly just don't care about it. I think it's because I'm so jaded to the 99% of dialogue that's sex-related to enjoy the sentimental stuff but also because it's just Bee and Vortex again, and it begs the question of why the shit Stolas' situation is so special (aside from him being Vivzie's baby) when the Sins just do whatever and either hide it poorly or don't hide it at all. Who came up with this hierarchy in the first place? Because the more we go on the more it seems like a thing that only Goetians focus on (which Ozzie should be apart of so what the fuck).

Speaking of Ozzie, I don't get why he's so nice, same with Bee. I'm not asking for everyone to be a shithead 24/7 but the concept of Hell's leaders, the ones who've created and are enabling the world of kill-or-be-killed that we've seen, being 100% friendly is just odd to me. Then again, Viv's idea of Hell is a nonstop party where they're all good unlike the EVIL BAD TOTALLY NOT GOOD angels and Adam so it doesn't surprise me. Also his whole thing about "Lust shouldn't be forced". Um? I'd get it if he were talking about LOVE, but Lust is not something I'd ever consider to be consensual in nature, especially not in Hell. That's all I'll say on the matter because it's a very serious topic, but then again, maybe I should consider myself lucky a topic that dark isn't being butchered by Vivzie. All of that said, I do like Ozzie's voice actor, he's really nice-sounding.

I don't understand what the hell happened with Fizz and Blitzo. Who the fuck was going around saying that Blitzo didn't wanna see Fizz and didn't tell Fizz that Blitzo showed up? I have to assume it was maybe Barbie or Cash (assuming Cash didn't also die in the fire). If it was Barbie I'm not entirely sure why. As far as we're aware (unless they retcon it in later) Barbie shouldn't have seen Blitzo knocking into the cake or leaving Fizz, so if she did it because their mom died, I can't see how she would know that. Maybe someone saw Blitzo and passed that on to Barbie, but the fact of the matter is I shouldn't have to Tetris-style guess and insert explanations for the episode. If any episode was going to be a full on backstory, it should've been this one, not The Circus, especially with Unhappy Campers being before this one.

On a positive note, I think those little fly-dog things are so cute in a kinda ugly way. I do think it's kind of a nice small look into Fizz's mind that he'd have one that's wheelchair-bound because he'd relate to it. Ozzie patching up Fizz was nice too, as much as I don't care for the couple, I'm glad that Fizzmodeus at leasts SHOWS the shit that Stolitz doesn't. And speaking of Stolitz, yeah Blitzo keep telling me all these things Stolas TOTALLY does for you yeah I'm sooooooo sure

And, like other people have said, Stolas was totally pointless and useless like always, and what a nice cool guy who totally isn't bad like the other Goetia when he let that lawyer guy get brutally murdered, like yeah I guess it wasn't really his place to help or anything but I don't think having him smirk and say "Get fucked, little one" is doing him any favors. I do have to wonder if they're actually gonna go through with this Crystal shit. I'm not gonna bother guessing anymore because like I said before, the show will throw a biggest, goofiest curveball at you to try and seem less predictable.

And speaking of curveballs, Crimson and Striker. That's it. That's all I gotta say on that subject. I miss Harvest Moon Festival, man. Like I'm no Striker fangirl who buys all the Striker merch and shit but damn he's so pathetic now. Why did Blitzo have to recreate the shit that happened and shoot the barrel when he could've shot Striker in the face while he was talking? Please, I need someone else on the writing team PLEASE

You're not too far off by guessing it was a bomb, lol. I haven't decided exactly what he was working on, but I know it was some kind of highly volatile weapon prototype that backfired at the worst possible moment when he was distracted and didn't have any protective gear on. This was back before he felt the need to wear a battle shell at home, unfortunately, which made the injury much, much worse.

This happened back when he was between 11-13, so Splinter was somewhat present to help with taking care of him, but the main caretaker role went to Leo as the resident medic. Splinter's help was not appreciated by Donnie, to say the least, considering this wasn't long after the incident and left Donnie wondering, "Why now? Why couldn't he be there for Leo and Mikey like he's doing for me, of all people. Does he think I'm too weak to handle this?"

So yeah, Splinter tried but in the end Leo and Mikey took over Donnie's recovery process to avoid any unneeded tension/arguments. And like I said in the original post, after that, Donnie never went without protection for his shell and became very reluctant to build any kind of weapon that does large-scale damage like explosives, lasers, etc.

This didn't stop him from building other awesome tech like the turtle tank or all kinds of defensive measures for himself and the lair, and he still likes building smaller scale weaponry like guns or multi-tools. Kinda ironic in his brothers' opinions that he refuses to make a flash grenade while also not hesitating to build a mini-turret for the lair entrance to gun down trespassers, but whatever makes him happy ig

yeah tbh i don't have a very confident idea on what it means... i guess i've got a few possible ideas as to what it could signify but... again, i'm not confident in them so do with these what you will 👍!

also this is kinda long and rambly lol oopsie daisy...

it could represent John having been just born (as he directly refers to himself in the song as "a newborn" and also talks about how he was "born" only very recently in Neoplasm). now if this was meant to mean this, I would think they would have used the crying of a newborn baby to represent it since they cry when they're born, not laugh. which the audio seems to contain laughing, not crying. and newborns cannot laugh yet, only cry. so maybe instead of having just been born it's meant to allude to the fact that he's very very young.

but anyway. maybe he split to deal with the stress leading up to it. or maybe he split to deal with the stress of the murder(s) having already happened and to take the responsibility even if he didn't actually kill anyone. it's not uncommon at all for an alter to split afterwards to take on the aspects of a trauma that can't be accepted.

for example- if Mikoto is the murderer, maybe John split to be someone who did want to murder the victim(s) and to be someone who doesn't feel any guilt over having done it. and then the other characteristics to his personality are to support this: unapologetic, doesn't take any shit, fine with being violent to protect himself and others, doesn't feel bad about rebelling, etc. hell, he could even legit believe he was the murderer depending on how far his role to take responsibility for it goes.

if John is the one shown mostly in Double (because there's certain imagery to suggest that maybe he isn't there for a lot of it. but also imagery to suggest he is. i hate it here my brain is too small for this), he may have not actually done the murder(s). if the inside of the train represents the subjective reality (not the objective reality) of what happened, so how John sees it, then that could be why he's doing the "killing" on the train even though we know the confirmed murder happened outside the train station. he's there to be the murderer, even if he may have not actually done it. and why we see mannequin pieces flying outside the train, where the murder occurred, as he swings from inside the train.

ok i had another explanation but i cant seem to figure out how to word it... and also it's more to me like a "oh, an interesting nod to this thing maybe..." and less an actual theory.

‘Mine’ is literally Andreil (especially Neil but not just him); the song was written about them, I'm convinced. Ever since I had that realization I've had the need for everyone to know that and, since I haven't seen anyone mentioning it in the fandom, I had to do my best to ensure more people have this information. 

I mean, these are the lyrics of the song:

(Text in brackets are my comments, text in blue are the actual lyrics of the song)

Verse 1:

You were in college working part-time waitin’ tables [Well, Andrew no longer works at Eden's, but he does go to college, so I'd consider it a partial match]

Wondering why we bother with love if it never lasts [I know that Neil 'didn' t swing' (being the fandom consensus, I think, that he's demi) but at first he was also all like 'Yeah, I can't afford to trust people and caring about anyone in that way it's not worth it , since it only leads to trouble'  and so on]

At first, it's Andrew's place, but later on he also takes Neil, and it turns into a safe space for the both of them, metaphorically putting his arm around Neil] 

You made a rebel of a careless man’s careful daughter [Andrew made Neil a rebel in the sense that he convinced and motivated him to stand his ground and fight instead of keep on running. And I guess the part about his father doesn't need much explanation] 

You are the best thing that’s ever been mine [They've both lived lives full of trauma, people hurting them, and other negative things. And now they have each other and it's so much better than anything either of them thought they could get. I’m not one to say that a certain couple is perfect because it sounds cheesy, but in each other they now have someone who really (bothers to) understand them, and “accepts” them, with everything they have in a way that they couldn't find in just anyone] 

Verse 3 [This might be my favourite verse]

Flash forward, and we’re taking on the world together, [This could refer to the part between Andrew coming back from Easthaven and Neil getting kidnapped, where (at least for Neil) it was a time of peace and things going fine (all things considered), or to their lives post trilogy/college, even if then it alters a bit the chronology of the song] 

And there’s a drawer of my things at your place [I was about to say that they skipped this part and moved ahead to living together, but actually, I think this could be connected to the keys. It isn't having his things at Andrew's but, ultimately, the whole thing about having something (a space) that is yours at someone else's house is that this person is allowing/inviting you in it. The drawer is like saying "This is my thing, but you are also welcome, not only as a guest but rather as it also being your thing", and that is (more or less) what Andrew was saying when he gave Neil the keys to his house and his car. ] 

You learn my secrets, and you figure out why I’m guarded, [Do I even need to explain?  I will anyway. Again, doesn’t chronologically follow the story, but I feel like the scene in Wymack’s living room coming back from the first time at Eden's really does count as Andrew “figuring” Neil out. He doesn’t get all the truth, but he then gets the blurry picture of what Neil’s life is. I guess this line is just perfect for them and really didn’t need explaining] 

You say we’ll never make my parents’ mistakes [I could be tripping here, but I think Andrew does at some point say to Neil something about not being his father, not looking alike and… Alright, I don’t remember, maybe I should reread the books.]

Verse 4

But we got bills to pay, [At first metaphorical bills, then “real” ones. I already mentioned the “time of peace” Neil has before getting kidnapped. During this time, he has long decided how he’s going to play thighs and made peace with the fact that his death is nearing. So, yeah, they have their moment of calm, but bills are due, he has to answer for all the unresolved issues surrounding his life. The second interpretation, the one with the real bills, would be, of course, about the deal Neil makes with the Moriyamas at the end of the books.]

We got nothing figured out, [1. Taking into account what I said about the preceding line, this is obvious, I guess. Neil and Andrew are at a point where they are finding their footing and also their happiness, I suppose. But they haven’t really resolved their problems, and they (the problems) are just around the corner. 2: They kinda survived through the whole deal, but they didn’t exactly “solve” them (except for Nathan, I guess?), they merely did that: surviving. I think the first interpretation is much more fitting and just goes along better with the rest of the song.]

When it was hard to take, 

Yes, yes, this is what I thought about [Here I’m not completely sure I understand what the song is saying, so I’m sorry if I get it wrong, but if I’m right: This is during his time with his father. Of course life at that point isn’t very nice. And while he is suffering he also thinks about the nice things in the last years. Namely, the foxes and Andrew. 

Chorus A

Do you remember, we were sitting there by the water? [This follows the same string as the last verse. So while Neil is with his father and everything he has the good memories of Andrew, etc]

You put your arm around me for the first time [Given that Andrew wasn’t the only good thing Andrew had while with the foxes, this time we could say that the “you put your arm around me for the first time" doesn’t mean just Andrew but the rest of the foxes (especially Wymack) as well]

You made a rebel of a careless man’s careful daughter

You are the best thing that’s ever been mine [With that in mind, this line makes even more sense, because with his troubled childhood and everything that was his life from hen on, the foxes are by far the best thing he has ever had]

Chorus B

Do you remember all the city lights on the water?

You saw me start to believe for the first time

You made a rebel of a careless man’s careful daughter

You are the best thing that’s ever been mine

Oh, oh, oh

[All the chorus part is that, remembering the various instances. Both mentioned priorly on the show and not mentioned]

Verse 5

And I remember that fight, two-thirty a.m. 

When everything was slipping right out of our hands

I ran out crying, and you followed me out into the street

[I really liked thinking about this as a scene that’s a bit different from what the song might be describing; Which is the one in TKM, if I’m not wrong, where Wymack tells Neil he’s going to be captain the following year, and he has a panic attack (I think). So the “fight” wouldn’t be an actual fight but a conversation that did upset Neil nevertheless. This upsets him because it’s something that he wants but knows he can never get; and this causes a crash between the life that he’s kind of build for himself at PSU, where he’s a promising striker for the Foxes who could be Court, and his “actual life”, where he’s the runaway son of a criminal and will die before the end of the year. All of this to say that at that moment Neil was made aware of the fact that the life he really wanted was going to slip right out of his hands without him being able to do anything about it. He then literally ran out, except not crying but having a panic attack. And Andrew came to him.

As I said I liked seeing this part as a reference to that scene, maybe because I like the scene, but now I’m thinking it actually matches way better with another scene. It’s still not chronologically in order, but it doesn’t go as far back (as the aforementioned scene). The scene in question is the riot. There was in fact a fight. It was not 2:30 a.m., but it was late at night. Everything was in fact slipping out of their hands (except Andrew didn’t know it, but still), that with Neil getting kidnapped, probably never to be seen again. Neil very much did not run, and he did not cry, but he was in distress and Andrew went to follow him where he went. (I know Andrew at the moment was looking after Aaron and Kevin, not so much after Neil, since they had broken the deal. But once his people were safe and stuff had calmed down a bit, he did try to find Neil in the car park, he choked Kevin for information, he tried to fight the FBI, etc. Neil doesn’t really know about what Andrew is doing at the time, but when he speaks with the FBI he knows Andrew wouldn't just leave him. And later, of course, he hears of what happened, all that Andrew did.]

Verse 6

Braced myself for the "Goodbye"

‘cause that’s all I’ve ever known

Then you took me by surprise

You said, "I’ll never leave you alone"

[Even ignoring how Neil thought he was going to die at the hand of his father and because of that said goodbye to Neil and everything he (Neil) had. 

When Neil is with the FBI, he thinks the Foxes probably hate him now that they know the truth, so when he goes to meet them at the hotel it’s mostly to say goodbye. He thinks Andrew, more than anyone, will be mad at him for lying to him, but when they actually see each other Andrew is just relieved to see him alive. He then refuses to leave his side, both while they’re in the room and later with the FBI, making it really clear to Neil that Andrew will be with him no matter what, “you aren’t going anywhere”.]

Chorus C

You said, "I remember how we felt sitting by the water

And every time I look at you, it’s like the first time

Hmm... I'm not sure what side of this argument you're on. Are you an insecure Jikooker or an anti-shipper? A Taekook/Vmin/Yoonmin-er? You're asking if I'm still "sticking" to my opinion, so you're probably not a Jikooker (calling myself a Jikooker is a bit weird though).

Well, I still can't picture Jikook with anyone else. You saw Jungkook's face watching Jimin's videos? He had the same soft, worshiping face he made during the Dynamite comeback (if you're a Jikooker, yk). He sings Jimin's songs (he sang Vibe 3! times because he wanted to do it justice!, and also sang Jimin's songs with VHope), said he misses Jimin, watched multiple Jimin videos with us, did vocals for Letter, called himself Jimin's fan, saw Jimin rehearse SMF (did you count the amount of times they held hands? Do you see Jimin doing that, and also speaking so softly, with other members?), engages with Jimin the most during lives (ie. he doesn't always comment when the other members are live, but he's been commenting a lot on pretty much all of Jimin's recent lives), still has favorite movies, songs and hobbies in common with Jimin (coach Tommy seems to know Jimin better than he does the other members except Jungkook), etc. But if you want current, hard "proof" of their bond, you won't get it. We won't have regular OT7 Bangtan Bombs, episodes, Memories, and concert DVDs for a long time. You won't get recent "loud" moments between Jimin and Jungkook, such as an almost kiss or a suspicious bite mark. You won't get many friendship scenes between the members in general.

Still, V and Jungkook, and J-Hope as well, have been hanging out a lot lately, and Jimin has been spending time with J-Hope and Suga. I understand some fans see that as confirmation that Jikook aren't as close anymore - they've been seen in public, but not together. Well, Jimin was working on Face and practically lived in PDogg's house for 10 months. He, Suga and J-Hope were all preparing content so their schedules probably overlapped and they ran into each other a lot at Hybe (it also made sense for them to shoot some content together). V and Jungkook were both resting (more or less, and not presently in Jungkook's case, I guess) so they were more free to hang out (which was only a handful of times anyway from what we saw, and not even every week or super regularly). Hobi has always been the most social and active member, and he's leaving soon, so he probably wanted to spend as much time with Bangtan as possible. He even played online games with Jimin! He's not a gamer so maybe he just wanted to do something with Jimin? They played together in ITS 2 as well, so it's probably a Jihope thing. Why didn't Jikook play games together, you might ask? I just answered that, and also, do they have to? Jungkook doesn't seem to play much anymore and maybe he doesn't like that game? We know his sleeping schedule is pretty fucked too, so I wouldn't be surprised if he can be hard to reach. But he gamed with V, you argue! Yeah, but that was a hang out at V's house with more people, and their gaming skills are much more comparable anyway. We haven't heard of J-Hope hanging out with RM, for example, yet I haven't heard fans say they aren't close anymore.

Jungkook and Jimin have hang out many times with us only finding out about it later through second hand accounts or in official content. A lot of Jikook droughts have become floods out of nowhere. Jimin and Jungkook have slightly different friend groups - for example, RM and Jimin are close to Taeyang, but Jungkook doesn't seem to be, so Jikook wouldn't go to G-Dragon's event together. There are millions of explanations as to why Jikook don't seem to be hanging out as much or why other members seem to be hanging out a lot. We don't know how often Jikook chat, if they call each other, if they meet up privately, etc. Jimin is pretty private and doesn't share much of his private life, and Jungkook's pretty inconsistent with what he divulges - historically though, Jikook rarely talk about the times they hang out, which is why we learn about convenience store runs and dinners with friends through second hand accounts. We have a tendency to take things at face value. I love Jinkook but haven't seen good content of them since 2021. It's easy to assume they aren't close now because Jungkook didn't visit Jin with Jihope and doesn't seem to talk to him much. But that's also just Jungkook's personality. He's touchy yet a bit distant. He doesn't like texting or talking on the phone, and seems to be the type that can go a really long time without seeing someone. RM said during one of the recordings of a Proof comeback show that Jinkook couldn't live without each other but many fans say Jungkook has "outgrown" Jin. Every relationship is different. Jungkook's openly affectionate with Hobi and RM, and very verbal in his appreciation of them, yet he's always shown his affection for Jin through teasing, play fighting and back hugs. Also, Jungkook doesn't overly praise Jimin most of the time and is more tactile with other members, but shows he loves Jimin so much in so many different ways.

Anyway, I don't know what to tell you. BTS are never going to be what they used to be. We won't get hours of content of the members' interactions to judge their closeness. All we'll get for the foreseeable future are IG photos of some members hanging out (but Jungkook doesn't have IG and Jimin rarely posts so they wouldn't be the ones posting pics of themselves), and whatever they choose to share during lives. And with all of them having different schedules and levels of privacy we can't take anything at face value. RM hasn't been seen with the members in ages (except at the Harry Styles concert and dinner with Jimin), yet no one is assuming he isn't close to his members anymore. This is just a weird phase for BTS and Army. If I believed Jikook were together before I can't not believe that now, because doubting them would mean they were either never together (or interested in each other) or are having a very amicable breakup.

I haven't been in Zippleons for very long, but the owner/admin, SinisterGutz, is literally the rudest fucking species and server owner that I've ever come across, and I've been in at least 15 CS servers alone, 5 of which had shitty mods and or admins. I just finished reading through everything on Tumblr about them and I didn't expect Sinister to be so awful from the very beginning. It gets worse though! Since I've been in the server, I've witnessed them create two MYO events, both ending around the same time (no idea why they had two MYO events going at the same time, that literally doesn't make any sense), but they ended the main one (from Toyhouse) early without notice and without compensation. Every time someone posts something relating to it, Sinister basically tells them "Uh yeah, this ended already." without any explanation, even though it was supposed to end in May. Which, when multiple members brought up the fact that the Toyhouse MYO event page said that it was closed, even the fucking staff had no idea what that meant or why it was closed. On top of that, Sinister was pissed about the constant PeekiePups ads in the server and kept bashing the members posting the ads as well as the species as a whole in the spam channel, and said something along the lines of "Nobody checks these channels anyways lol, everybody has them muted". Sinister has also remade the entire Discord and every single channel but two, as of now, so I don't have screenshots of everything. My guess is that they did it to cover their tracks for all of the awful shit that they've said and done.

Oh, and on top of everything, they decided that during both MYO events, Sinister would completely revamp the entire species without warning or explanation as to what they're changing/revamping and keep telling everyone, "You can still make your MYO designs and post them for approval, and I'll just tell you what's allowed and what needs to be changed" instead of having a general basis for what's changing. TL;DR: Just like every other post here on Tumblr says, don't join Zippleons. If you like the species, just make a furry anthro dragon/monster hybrid or something, since that's basically what they are, other than a knockoff cham.

Would you mind elaborating on how you think stories in games are declining?

yeah I can do that I talked about it a little on twitter the other night

to start I just want to mention that this is based on the games I've played recently, so if you're thinking "well [this game] had a great story" I probably. didn't play it, or plan to sometime

also this is just an observation I'm making about myself. it's not very organized i'm typing this up at 5am

so this is about how good ghost trick's story is. as in so good, the feeling of finishing a game with no questions about anything significant was entirely foreign to me; and it may be the only game to ever make me feel like that for a long time

frankly I don't know if I just chose the wrong new games to play this year, or if it's the whole "sequels are generally worse than the original" thing, or if I've gotten picky about stories, or all of the above (probably all of the above and then some) but ghost trick made me realize I haven't played a single story-driven game (released in 2022) where I came out of the credits satisfied

just "...huh. ok. that's it then I guess"

however, I played a number of older titles where I was like "ohhh that was so good. wow" and was overall happy with the experience

but it's not really just limited to 2022; a lot of the games I played in 2021 too were lacking and/or didn't stick the landing in their stories

these include: p5 strikers (though I played that for the combat so I enjoyed it), ntwewy, lost judgment, nirvana initiative, and xenoblade 3 (this is a weird one bc I didn't dislike it but I didn't feel very strongly opinionated about it when I finished the game)

(tales of arise had several issues but I actually liked the ending a lot so it's an exception)

and then. there are some games I played that weren't story-driven, but had an interesting premise and just. dropped it completely somewhere along the way, or half-assed the explanations: monster hunter rise, world's end club, and smt5

rise is only here bc I thought the thing with the elder dragons speaking through the twins was really cool. and then it turned out to be nothing. but this leads into one of my points: that a lot of games are being released unfinished so players are compelled to buy dlc promising new story content for the loose threads that weren't wrapped up in the base game. and sometimes it still doesn't cover everything important that's missing

although rise doesn't count bc we got the rest of the story in free updates, it WAS literally unfinished at launch. extra content being released in paid dlc has been discussed by plenty of other people though (I just think it's one of the more significant factors contributing to why stories have felt. lacking) so. moving on

my big takeaway after playing ghost trick was that I had grown accustomed to stories that just. have the most slap-a-bandaid-on-it-and-call-it-good endings/explanations ever. I was used to being disappointed (in a "well that was a letdown" way, not an "I'm gonna miss this" way) when the credits rolled. I picked up games that promised a good story and expected important plot lines to never be addressed, because it's happened SO many times

in other words, gt caught me off guard because there was an entirely reasonable answer to every potential question I had. it's like when someone shuts your argument down so completely that you're speechless

this has also been discussed by others but I think being too hypercritical of little things/refusing to suspend disbelief is a "harmful" mindset to have. if you keep actively trying to nitpick something so you can go "I knew it!! this SUCKS" then of course you're going to be hard-pressed to find a "perfect" piece of media

and while I consider myself someone who's fully willing to go "okay, sure" in the moment, I've been exposed to so many posts that read so deeply into something incredibly minor that now I can't help but raise an eyebrow at things I never would've given a second thought to before,,,,,whenever that started

so I guess my other point here is that it feels like a lot of people don't let themselves enjoy stories when the plot gets a little nonsensical at times, or just get super hung up on the flaws. there's a difference between a game with an ending that's so bad you never want to play it again, and a game that was mostly solid but This One Negligible Thing absolutely ruined it for you

and I'm not trying to tell anyone what to enjoy or how to enjoy it but I think people could stand to not focus on the negatives so much, because it makes some stories seem a lot worse than they. actually are

xenoblade 3 is currently kind of getting this treatment (or it's at least pretty divisive from what I can tell), but some of it is actually warranted criticism while the rest of it is a lack of media literacy/not picking up on the show-don't-tell

anyway TL;DR ghost trick is the most complete game, story-wise, that I've ever played. I can't compare any other game to it bc it's on an entirely different level, but at the same time I now know what it feels like to finish a game wholly satisfied with its conclusion. and writers should put more care into the stories they've crafted for their games, particularly if they've been planning it for multiple years (though I'm aware that time constraints/pressure from higher-ups/other variables like that are detrimental to the creative process)

YEAH It's deranged and dw abt asking me to explain stuff I LOVE explaining things I like it's like one of my favorite pastimes >>:)

Short explanation: A bunch of characters with superpowers fight and also they're all based on authors.

LONG Explanation:

OH YEAH suicidal ideation and attempt tw and also like. child abuse. and manipulation. and mafia typical crimes

So the basics: All the characters are based on Authors, they all have superpowers, and there's two MAIN groups: The Armed Detective Agency (ADA) which is the main group, and deals with crimes that the local police are out of their depth with, and the Port Mafia, an organization based with skill users at the top and CAUSES most of the crimes the ADA has to solve

So the main character is this kid, Atsushi, and his skill is that he turns into a tiger at night entirely uncontrollably and has no idea. He gets kicked out of the orphanage because he literally turns into an apex predator and starts trying to maul people but his actual personality is very meek and quiet and nervous and he GENUINELY has no idea why people seem to hate him. So he's starving by the side of the river and he's like "I haven't eaten in days I guess I AM going to have to resort to robbing someone... :((" ANd he's all upset about it but he's also starving so he's like "Ok. I'll do it. I'm robbing the next guy to walk by!!!"

The next guy to walk by is not walking. He's on a motorcycle. That guy's also my favorite character I'll get to him later tho (he's also very important to the NEXT guy who comes along)

So Atsushi is like "Yeah that guy was too fast I'll get the next guY!!!"

The next guy comes floating down the river. Just like. Drowning casually. As one does, and Atsuishi, because he is very kind at heart, is like "Fuck shit ok I can't let some guy just drown!!!!!" So he goes and gets the guy out of the water and the guy wakes up and is like

"Dude?? I was trying to kms smh" like that's just a casual thing to say, and to be fair for Him Specifically it is but to Stray Kid He Just Met it is Not

This guy is Dazai Osamu

And Dazai, because he's Dazai, is like "Oh lmfao ur literally starving c'mon let's go get food!!"

So they go to get food. Dazai's coworker Kunikida shows up and bullies the hell out of Dazai because literally Dazai does nothing at the office do not let that man's suicidal tendencies fool you he CAN and WILL do his work he CHOOSES not to, this is not a case of a mental illness hindering his productivity he just Doesn't do his work. He also does this specifically to annoy Kunikida who has a strict schedule every day and plans things RELIGIOUSLY

He makes Kunikida pay for the food and casually chats about this super mysterious tiger that's been spotted prowling the streets by night isn't that super strange and dangerous? That's soooo crazyyyy

This is the first time Atsushi has ever heard of this

Long story short Dazai reveals Atshushi as the Tiger and ALSO hires him at the ADA because surpise Dazai works with the detective agency, he's actually one of their most prominent members, despite going litearlly nothing and having the most complaints out of everyone. He's just a mastermind which is the only way he gains any merrit considering he causes like 90% of the problems?? He's wild

He also forces Atsushi to defuse a false bomb situation as an entrance exam (this is p much never brought up again)

So Atsushi gets sent on his first mission and Kunikida is like "HEY New kid, ok, you see this guy in this picture? If you see him, you RUN. He's an incredibly dangerous criminal, he's in the Port Mafia, and he WILL kill you"

Naturally Atsushi runs into him

His name is Akutagawa

Him and Atsushi are narrative foils

Becuase guess where Dazai used to work before the ADA? The Port Mafia. Guess who he mentored? AKUTAGAWA. The main difference between him and Atsushi besides like organizational differences? Dazai in the Port Mafia was emotionally abusive to Akutagawa who was like???? 15 at the time I have no idea but he was a kid and now he's obsessed with Dazai's approval and has a VERY hard time feeling like he's good enough, MEANWHILE Atsushi gains Dazai's favor with NO work at all and is still insecure about it, they have a rivalry going on

So Akutagawa like cuts Atsushi in half (Atsushi's fine, his tiger skill has a healing aspect), they fight violently, and then Dazai shows up and is like "Aw the kids are fighting!!!! Stop doing that kids you'll hurt each other ^w^!!!"

Btw Dazai's skill is to nullify other skill user's abilities by touching them, so he like literally nullifies the fight

And then Dazai gets kidnapped by the Mafia because he has a PLAN or something

Meanwhile no one at the ADA really notices that he's gone that is how much this guy avoids work they literally just Assume he's slacking off (he's not, he's chained up in a mafia warehouse)

So while the ADA is doing jobs, Akutagawa yells at Dazai for a little bit, Dazai's like "Lmfao fuck you Atsushi is so much cooler than you" and Akutagawa is OBVIOUSLY upset by this because he spent YEARS scrambling for A SHRED of approval from Dazai and ATSUSHI GETS IT IMMEDIATELY???

SO Aktugawa leaves.

And Dazai's former mafia partner comes in.

Remember when I said that guy on the motorcycle was important? THIS is him. His name is Chuuya. Nakahara Chuuya. ANd oh boy is there tension between him and Dazai and OH BOY is it unresolved

So Chuuya and Dazai bicker and fight and throw hands a little bit and tease each other and Chuuya's like "LMAO What if I killed you."

He can't though because Dazai is currently blackmailing the Mafia

So Chuuya helps Dazai escape and make it look like he didn't help him do it, and they're home free!!!

ALso there's a bounty on Atsushi's head, the mafia wants to sell him on the black market, and Akutagawa specifically wants him GONE

So the first arc of the anime is the Port Mafia (It's mainly Akutagawa) trying to get to Atsushi and take down the entire ADA as a whole

They fail

Partially becuase the SECOND arc comes in

And this is where the THIRD group is introduced: The Guild

The Guild is just a bunch of skill-using American capitalists. like their leader's skill is literally just that he gets more Raw Power the more money he spends I can't make this shit up

So The Guild wants to buy the ADA because the ADA has a permit to be an organization operating with skill-users in Yokohama (the city), and they Want That

Obviously they lose

Highlights of this arc: The reveal of Chuuya's raw power. His corruption. The powerstate he can go into where he becomes a creature of pure destruction and demolition (His power is litearlly controlling the gravity of things he touches so you can imagine how chaotic THAT can get) also he only does it when Dazai's around and only because he literally trusts Dazai with his entire life and soul becuase DAZAI'S NULLIFICAITON ABILITY IS THE ONLY THING THAT STOPS CHUUYAS POWER FROM CONSUMING HIM VIOLENTLY IN THAT STATE which I think about a lot

^ Also the battle that that's revealed in, Chuuya and Dazai are fighting Lovecraft. Who turns into A Lovecraftian Creature. That guy's crazzzy in this series at the end of the arc bro just sinks into the ocean and goes to sleep all Cthulu-like

AAND Akutagawa and Atsushi teaming up to beat the shit out of THe Guild's leader. They are the second coming of Dazai and Chuuya power-wise (because fun fact Dazai and Chuuya work in perfect sync and are known as "Soukoku" or "Twin Dark" and they are THE SINGLE MOST Efficient and Destructive duo in the criminal world of Yokohama, put those two on the same side and you have the ultimate winning card. ANd AKUTAGAWA AND ATSUSHI HAVE THE SAME THING GOING ON!!!!!!!!)

SO they beat Capitalism Man and that's the end of thee second arc

The third arc, basically, a skill user puts their Skill on the Mafia leader (Mori) and the ADA's President (Fukuzawa) (it's low-key a spell so I'm jut gonna call it that)

One of them has to die, or both of them will die in like a day

It's a plan to sew violence and war between the ADA and Port Mafia

And it WORKS

The Port Mafia is like frothing at the mouth to defend their boy Mori and the the ADA is ALSO frothing at the mouth to protect their man Fukuzawa. Both sides care deeply for their bosses and are prepared to Kill for that

Meanwhile, Dazai is like "HEY Atsushi yk what would be soooo cool if you went to stop the guy who's behind this!! I beleive in youu!!!! Also Akutagawa is going with you."

Akutagawa and Atsushi, again, Save The Day. LIke true gamers

Meanwhile Dazai himself has tracked down the actual man behind the crime: Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Because he KNEW that Fyodor wouldn't be where the guns were, he knew Fyodor, like him, is a mastermind player. The player with the chess peices in hand, not the rook or pawn or any piece on the field, yet equally important

Fyodor is arrested

And so, the fourth arc begins

The ADA is framed as a terrorist organization

Like by framed I mean literally reality is altered so that everyone is CONVINCED they are terrorists using a Magic Book that has the power to alter reality. The odds are Entirely against the ADA also this is still being orchestrated by Fyodor despite him being litearlly underground in a high security prison with no outside contact but it's finnneeee

SO the ADA begins being hunted by the government special forces group known as the Hunting Dogs. Four insanely powerful skill users, all intent on Killing or Imprisoning the members of the ADA

One of which, is a guy called Tachihara. He's important because previously in the show he's introduced as the third leader of special forces MAFIA GROUP, the Black Lizard. He was an infiltrator. BUt he found himself in the mafia and the Mafia happens to work in tandem with the ADA when it comes to city-threataning things because the Mafia isn't really as criminal as it seems sometimes and the ADA isn't as heoric as it seems sometimes, they're both a little silly like that

Tachihara sees through the shift in reality. It takes him a while, but he does. He defects from the Hunting Dogs to side with his friends and arguably family in the Mafia, because the MAFIA also doesn't really CARE if the ADA are terrorists?? They also don't really believe it because they're just built different like that

Also Dazai gets put in prison with Fyodor

Him and Fyodor are playing mental chess within prison, both figuring out each other's moves and relaying them somehow to the outside world

MEANWHILE AKutagawa and Atsushi are working together again they go against the head of the Hunting Dogs who SURPISE!!! LEads AN ACTAULL TERRORIST GROUP called like the Angels of Death or somehting I don't remember too well because I like barely remember Him specifically?? He's just a little slippery in my brain bro, idk, not as enthralling as Chuuya and Dazai ig

So Akutagawa fucking dies

It's ok though!!! He gets turned into a Vampire so he's Not Dead Anymore, he's just under mind control

Also Vampires are a thing, it's this one guy's Skill

So Akutagawa goes around spreading vampirism to everyone in the Mafia and they spread it and it just keeps Spreading

MEANWHILE Fyodor's bestie, Gogol, is like "UGHHH I'm BORED :((( COme on Sigma let's go kill Dostoy in a silly goofy puzzle way!!!!" (Sigma is another guy, he runs a casino, he's kinda silly also the only guy with a braincell most of the time)

So Gogol and Sigma half break Dazai and Fyodor out of prison

By that I mean they get them out of their cells and take care of Most security guards

Then they propose The Challenge:

Dazai and Fyodor both have to inject poison into them that will brutally kill them in 30 minutes

Dazai and Fyodor have to pick One Tool out of a set of tools

They have 30 minuets to break out of the prison and find the antidote to the poison

Fyodor takes the head security guard's keycard

Dazai takes Sigma. which is allowed because Gogol doesn't give a flying fuck

ANd as the two split, Fyodor reveals the card he has up his sleeve: Chuuya. Not normal Chuuya, who would never side with Fyodor, and would probably choose Dazai over everything, no no no. VAMPIRIZED Chuuya. Chuuya reduced to nothing but a weapon

This is a ploy designed specifically to play with Dazai's feelings, because DAZAI cares very much about Chuuya as well

But Dazai knows Chuuya is out of his control rright now and he can't stop the Vampirism skill by just touching Chuuya, he'd have to touch the skill user

So he fucking drowns Chuuya and Fyodor

ANd he gives a little almost-sappy speech to Chuuya, causing Chuuya to LITEARLLY BREAK FREE FROM THE VAMPIRISM OF HIS OWN FREE WILL BEFORE DROWNING JSUT TO HEAR DAZAI GO "LMFAO Yeah no there totally weren't any times that our hearts touched" (as what I THINK is a ploy to pull Chuuya out of Vampirism because there was a litteral montage of Soukoku Moments before he said that and Dazai is a Known Liar)

And uhhh yeah that's about as far as the story goes so far. It's still in progress :)

Was it ever explained what exactly they were running from or to? And why? Did no one ever brought that up in TTD to Chris Hardwick when that episode first aired back then? What do you think?

Yeah, for sure. It was definitely weird. And no, we've never gotten an explanation. Because of that, no one can say for sure.

Most of us who have been at this for years have some theories, though. You can read my full "What We Think Happened After Grady" post by clicking on the title, but the gist is that we're missing 17 days after Coda that the show simply skipped over. But for some reason, Nicotero felt were important enough to tell the audience about.

Then there's that pesky trading card that came out a year or three ago, which sets up a completely different story than the one we saw. Read about it HERE.

So basically, we think they tried to bury Beth in a white church, but a walker horde came through, interrupting them and threatening everyone's lives. So, they stashed Beth, what they thought was her body, in a car, planning to come back later to finish the burial. But when they returned, her body was gone. (This explains Maggie sitting outside the car crying in 5x09.)

So, them running might be them running to stay ahead of and get away from the horde. Of course the spoilers back when S5 was filming also talked about a major car chase near Terminus. And we never saw anything like that in S5 either. So, there might be entire storylines we never saw. There's really no way to tell.

And of course, I'll reiterate one more time that this is just a theory. Our best guess for what happened during those missing days. But the trading card, missing scenes we know for a fact they filmed in S5, and have never been put on any DVDS as "deleted" scenes, and suspicious words and social media posts by the actors are all pretty compelling evidence.

So, the short answer is that we don't know for sure what those scenes of TF running are, but we think they have to do with whatever happened to Beth's body after Coda. And if they haven't shown us those scenes yet, it's because they still plan to when she shows up. Which means we might finally see them in the spinoff. Hopefully. Fingers crossed.

(Total side tunnel, but I also think running represents escape from a symbolic standpoint. We saw the Beth blur in the opening credits and she's running in her yellow polo. I think that's to show that she escaped death/her dark tunnel/etc. We also just saw a lot of people running in S5. So, you could say this shot is also symbolic of her arc in escaping death. I'll leave it at that.)

Haiii!! So uhh.. news (?) For why I haven't been so ... active :'(

Listen,, im not really hyperfixated on IDV as much anymore. I've tried to get it back, but its just a smaller interest of mine now T_T whenever I play now, it doesn't give me the same feeling. It doesn't give me the same feeling as it. Used to 😣 i am very, very inactive on IDV now. I'll only even open it a few times sometimes and I keep getting that welcoming package, ToT. Obviously I still play but... yea you know.

I don't usually like to talk about my hyperfixations fading cause it tends to upset me a lot... but the chances of Me Actually Posting IDV again (besides reposts) are pretty slim. Maybe this will change some day!!!?? But yea.!! >_<...

Just giving an explanation. I don't usually like to apologize for being inactive since my accounts and posting is just for fun but I've honestly just left literally all of you guys in the dark :< so...

But about this account. The account is so heavily IDV'ed out that it just, doesn't connect to me anymore?? I wish @glamrockfedy was my main cause I love that account and have so much fun on it cause I can Actually be myself on there, even if i haven't been very active on there either 😞. I HAVE SEVERAL this has gotten so long...

i originally typed a long explanation but first draft of this post was thousands of words long. trying 2 compress. so i'll just link this about why i think they are. ants.

but yeah okay ant interest aside...i really am not and have never been a fan of the concept that they keep other bugs out of their village purely because of isolationism and a poorly defined honor code that hinges entirely on combat prowess...so instead i think of that policy as, rather than being a fixed trait, a combination of the infection and also their enmity with hallownest. they DO NOT like hallownest despite the truce, and the fact that there's so many entrances from the city of tears/waterways into right above and right below mantis territory...can you blame them...the impression it gives me is certainly a threatening one.

so yeah they don't like letting random people into the village. considering how many sealed doors there are on the way down to the mantis lords, it's my own thought that maybe a lot of that was set up specifically to seal the place off in case. Well. anything happened. then infection zombie apocalypse ended up happening and, well, they don't know much of anything about what's causing it! so their best guess is that it's contact-related. and in my interpretation of the infection, that's partly true...naturally, it comes in through the mind. but contact lowers the barrier of entry, as it were, so it's still a good idea to stay away from large infection pustules. it also results in a runaway effect once infection does enter a population...

thus mantises end up insulating themselves from a good chunk of Dream Plague. though naturally, not all of it, blah blah traitor lord situation

relatedly, to me i feel like the mantises were certainly made Quite uncomfortable when they realized that hallownest was seeking an alliance of some sort with deepnest. they don't know the details of the dreamer plan, but considering the silk spools in the hidden station, the existence of the distant village station, and the fact we know that at some point people in the city of tears began writing on spider silk paper rather than the older stone tablets, it's clear that some sort of truce between hallownest and the weavers lasted beyond herrah becoming a dreamer

the reason the mantises would be fairly unhappy about this is...well they REALLY don't want to end up in a situation where they're pinned on both sides. one of many reasons the eldest mantis lord has such a headache.

some more miscellaneous mantis hcs:

i think the mantis claws are something for people with claws that are for whatever reason unsuitable to climb with, and also for children whose wings are less and less functional but whose adult claws haven't quite grown in yet. (or children without wings/otherwise without the ability to fly)

to me the "horns" the mantis lords + some of the traitor mantises have are like, not horns so much as a headdress? and it's usually worn by older adults. so makai doesn't wear one because she's in her 20s and it's more a middle aged person thing. it's tied in the back and you can wear jewelry on them, but ultimately it's just cloth

i tend to draw them with facial tattooing! inspired by shin khaal although it's not literal shin khaal. it's mostly decorative and it's something adults get (although teenagers might experiment with drawing them on using makeup)

my names for the mantises are makai (traitors' daughter), tsanga (eldest lord), mina (2nd eldest), lalai (3rd eldest), anara (youngest/traitor lord). im going to use these names 4 them from now on

i originally had a long thing about makai and ze'mer here but it was like 2000 words long and i am trying so hard to end this post. tl;dr i think ze'mer defected from hallownest and lived in the mantis village with makai for several years. she didn't have a bad relationship with her in-laws until makai's death and anara's essentially-death, and that particular thing was. a bunch of grief and lashing out and part of her eventually moving on from that grief involves reconciling with them because ultimately they both love and miss the same people and they were, and still could be, family

going to stop now because i cannot be concise unfortunately. anyway i think abt the mantises so much. i think they deserve better <3 ok goodbye

hey what's up rather than recording like a 10 minute video that would be too long for Tumblr anyway I'm literally just gonna talking to my phone and have a dictate while I bitch about things. There's definitely gonna be typos and weird turns of phrase such as the nature of the medium.

OK so in the year 1982 there is a movie that came out called "making love". And when the movie screamed in theaters it began with a series of text disclaimers stating that there was homosexuality in the movie and that there was no explicit sex on scene but that viewers should take care  if that type of content upset them.  it makes me deeply sad to think about and the only way I can think to reconcile it in my mind is to think of those early 2000s disclaimers on fan fictions where it would be like "this has boys kissing don't like don't read."

 Anyway when it's screened in theaters apparently a ton of people walked out because they were disturbed by the homosexuality on the screen even with the disclaimer and the movie was a commercial flop after the first day or so.

 Now I was really curious about this movie because I heard about it in the celluloid closet. And when I went to look at modern reviews of it on letterbox,  it was still steadily bombing.  And most of the negative reviews were people mad that it was a romance movie? Which is like yeah it's a romance movie are you really gonna rate something negatively because of the genre. don't watch romance movies then idiot

The movie is bad by the way but not for the reasons the 1982 crowd thinks  also not what the people on letterbox think. it's a secret third thing – which is  that literally none of the characters are likable, and that the format of the film is deeply irritating.

 Anyway so I  boots up this movie and it's a story about a doctor named Zack who has been married for eight years to a woman named Claire. And they're both very career oriented so they haven't had a child yet but they do have plans to have one and they even have the name picked out. Which is like - bold fucking move.  Like you don't know for a fact that your child is going to be a boy so you could end up with a daughter named Rupert which I mean that's not the worst name in the world kinda fucks actually maybe.  But it's like do you not have any alternatives in mind?

and Zach occasionally will see gay men just kind of existing in public and he looks like he's gonna throw up but he's also like very clearly captivated by it.  so then he does this weird thing where he'll go to cruising spots and pick up spots for rent boys and he'll just kind of stare at the guys there. Like he doesn't talk to anyone. And like I understand that it's a very volatile time and you're married and all of that but if you're curious about the gay experience and gay people would you not just fucking talk to a gay person? Like he spent a good portion of the movie staring at other gay men like he's at a zoo.

also during this time he goes out at the same exact time every day and his wife knows that he's not at work but he doesn't provide any excuse or explanation for why he's gone so she's worried sick because she doesn't know what the fuck is happening with him. And obviously he's not gonna tell her the truth but come on dude at least come up with some sort of alibi or lie to tell her so that she's not worrying her self sick.  Like you've been married to the woman for eight years can you give her at least a small amount of comfort?

 Eventually he goes to work and he's filling in for another doctor and this guy walks in and he looks like Ashton Kutcher got hit with a giga chad beam. Like it looks like someone took the entire T supply  in the world and pumped it directly into this man's jawline.   actually since I'm doing this in Tumblr post format I can just show you with the dude looks like.

any guesses as to what this man's name is? Because you're going to get it wrong. His name is fucking Bart. You know like Bart Simpson?  Anyway Bart is a gay man that is very promiscuous -  which is fine except that he's a huge asshole and is constantly ghosting the guys around him and lying to them and refusing to cuddle. Whatever happened to aftercare?

 Anyway he goes in for a check up and I'm gonna be completely honest with you I don't remember how this exchange went or how it ended up like this, but Zach and Bart  leave the doctors office and then go to lunch. Which is really fucking strange? Like it's weird enough to go to lunch with someone you met like five minutes ago but also ask your doctor for lunch? No matter how hot he is in your mind it's a bit odd innit.

 So they go to lunch and they talk and then later Zack spots barked outside of a gay bar. And he is like "oh shit. Bart is gay."

and I'm gonna mention this bit now  instead of tacking it on at the end:  the entire time that this movie is going it keeps randomly cutting to Bart and separately Claire sitting in a buzzfeed-like white void  being interviewed by  some unknown person. this does not help at all with the story in fact it's an active distraction and it doesn't provide any interesting lore and essentially it's just the characters reacting to what you've already seen on the screen. So for example  you'll see a scene of Claire crying or whatever and her interview self will turn to the camera and be like "I was sad. I was really sad. I was crying." And it's like. Girl we know that we can see it. Whatever happened to showing and not telling in storytelling?

OK anyway at some point Zach ends up at Barts apartment and they kind of dance around the subject a little bit and eventually Bart comes out as gay. Which is like yeah dude you took him out on a date already?  And Zach admits that he's curious by it but because he's married it's not really something he's comfortable with exploring.  And   Bart confront him –  and he's like "OK then why are you here?" And this is where I say like. Zack is trying to learn more about gay men and by extension himself and he doesn't have to do that through sex necessarily so this feels like a scumbag thing to say. But at the same time Bart does not owe Zach education or emotional labor. The dude is just trying to  live his life.

like I'll admit I would also be kind of miffed if a guy was flirting with me and coming around to my house and going on dates with me and then he was like "oh you know I don't really know if I'm gay or not I was hoping that you could help me figure that out." because at that point you're just playing with my feelings.  Figure it out before you talk to me. There are plenty of guys out there who love sleeping with curious guys in particular -  go seek those ones out.

and then the story progresses very suddenly in a way that doesn't make sense. It's like they wrote that scene and then they got stumped  because they couldn't figure out how to get from point a to point c -  so they straight up just did not write B.   so suddenly Zack and Bart  are having sex. I'm gonna be honest this is one of the few parts of the movie I actually liked because I felt like the intimacy was pretty romantic and it was filmed tastefully.  And I was able to forget for a second that I hated both of these characters.

 So this becomes a thing where you know he's fucking Bart and he's distant from his wife and his wife is having a mental breakdown. because she's not sure if she should take on a huge project at work because she's ready to have children and she's worried that she shouldn't wait much longer because she's almost 30 which is bullshit? But also it was a different time then and cis women were legitimately too scared to have children pass that age into a certain extent some cis women still are.  And it's deeply unfair to her because Zach won't just fucking talk to her he won't even lie to her he's just silence and distant and never home.

and the confusing that is that when they are together they're fucking.  And at first I was like oh OK he's a  bisexual king. Nope! He is gay and is forcing himself to do comphet  even though his wife has literally not asked him for sex.  He is the one who actively initiates each time.  So that's upsetting.

eventually she completely snaps at him and that scares him enough that he decides the next time he sees her he's going to come out. And this entire time Claire has reassured him over and over and over and over and over and over again that whatever is wrong with him it doesn't matter because she loves him and she will support him. And so that primes the viewer to assume that one she already knows that he's gay and two  that they're going to have a Stede  and Mary moment where she accepts that he's gay.

Nope! she reacts by violently screaming at him. And completely tearing him to shreds. And making the situation just about her. And the wildest bit is that he doesn't even come out as gay. All he says is that he realized recently that he is attracted to men. He could be bisexual but  Claire is I guess so disgusted by the very concept of homosexuality (like the people in the theater i guess)  that she doesn't even consider that as a possibility. I mean Zach isn't  bisexual but Claire doesn't know that.

also I forgot to mention before Zach comes out to his wife. The relationship between him and Bart  is really fucking weird. Because Bart keep insisting that he doesn't want a relationship and Zack keeps insisting that he also doesn't want one because he has his wife and yet both of them are like. Too clingy? For each other. And also not enough? And it's like the writers couldn't figure out what the dynamic was before they started writing the film and they were making shit up on the fly even if it contradicted itself. Like it doesn't at all read like to men who don't know what they want as much as writing that does not make sense. Zach wants a boyfriend no he doesn't Bart doesn't want a boyfriend yes he does.

anyway Zach gets kicked out of his house so he goes to Bart and he's like hey man can I stay here for a couple of days? And I'm going to remind you that these two have been fucking like rabbits and even if they're not dating they do appear to have some sort of friendship at the very least. And fucking Bart tells him no.  Dude why. He's your friend. 

 So he has to stay in a motel room. And then eventually his wife calms down and seeks him out.  convince him to remain married to her and to get his homosexuality "treated".  And he explained to her that he doesn't want treated and that he is happy as a gay man and that their marriage is not gonna work and they're gonna have to divorce and that he wants distance from her.

 Now this is the most confusing part of the film to me. we jumped two years into the future where Zach has moved to another state and he gets a phone call about a funeral he has to attend so he goes home and he knows that he's going to run into his ex-wife.  And they meet each other and it's very sweet and all that and she has a new husband and she has a young child and then interaction goes well.

But the confusing bit is that this entire movie the love interest has been Bart.  And you keep thinking oh OK he's going to run into Bart  while he's in the area. Nope! and it turns out that  At the beginning of this time skip we see Zack and another man in what I assumed was some kind of office building? But apparently it's their home? And apparently that guy is his new boyfriend? But we don't even learn his name we've never seen him before now there's no meet cute  no explanation there's no development. There's just suddenly some guy there and we use the audience are supposed to know his purpose.  Because when Zack is talking to his ex-wife he mentions that he's been in a relationship for two years. And I was like  oh maybe he in bart are long distance or something?

it's just all very convoluted in my personal opinion. I don't think there should've been a time skip. I think they should've explored Zack finding a new relationship that was healthier for him rather than just being like hey audience by the way you know?

so my verdict of the movie making love 1982 is that everyone's the asshole here! Also the gay sex was kind of cool.

Overall: - Very productive year in terms of art improvement (mainly anatomy and color choice; character design quality has also improved a lot) - More brainrot fanart than in previous years - Less art overall, but more got shown off - 10/10 quality (compared to older art), hell yeah

controversial opinion that currently i have that i feel like i want to rant about:

man, i'm gonna sound offensive (and i'm trying not to be here, please read it all), but something has been bothering me and i feel like i need to share this.

in terms of drawing cartoon anthros, it is OK to give SOME stereotypical feminine/masculine traits to female/male characters (respectively speaking), and especially when anthropomorphizing things that otherwise do not have any significant gender differences or even gender at all.

i and surely many others are guilty of doing this as well.

HOWEVER, there is a thin but also rather blurry line when it comes to HOW extreme these gender differences are. there is a difference between...

.. "yeah, they're male and female, but still are clearly the same species of the same world"

...and..

"dear lord, i get they're supposed to be male and female but they look like two completely different creatures altogether"

and, let me make this clear before continuing: i get such extreme difference between sexes happen in nature as well (ask about peafowls, betta fish, ect). I'm talking when you add features to something that doesnt have such diferences.

taking my own anthro creatures, for example:

these guys are the elkinets, my own aeromorph ('humanoid' aircraft) species. this post specifically is the best example i currently have; they're the "intercrosses", and you can read a bit more about them here.

but that's not my point. my point here is that i, too, am rather guilty of doing that sort of cartoon logic. females have eyelashes and slightly curved chest, males do not. also, in the lore i have for them, females are supposed to be slightly larger than the males.

however, this in my option, is really all one really need to pull the while "this guy male, this gal female": eyelashes and maybe some kind of "Boob"-like structure. it's clear that they're still very much supposed to be aircraft.

IRL aircraft do not have a gender. in the grand scheme of things, aircraft are genderless. they do not adhere to standard gender expectations. what artists and other people see as "feminine" or "masculine" or "Genderless/gender-neutral" in aircraft is purely subjective, though perhaps the media could be to blame.

anyways, where was i? oh, yeah. weird gender designs.

NOW, If you're going to cross than line and make the gender differences exaugurated/extreme, the least you can do is make it interesting in a good way.

a "good" example of extreme differences "gone right": seton academy (which i haven't watched yet, so feel free to grill me for this)

notice how the male characters have animal heads while the females are just kemonomimis (human w/ ears + tail). there's no explanation of this.

alot of people seem to have problems with this, to which i understand as to why. but, at the very least, it's somewhat "unique". it at least

and if anybody where to pull the whole "Man=more monster, women=literal humanoid female" one of the best things you can do is to have it "Make sense". maybe the reasons for the females to look more human is that the males are so scary/unnerving (Lovecraftian/cosmic horrors, i guess) that it's easier to have the females make contact with humans because they're "less scary". maybe perhaps the males uses the overly feminine females as "bait", luring in unsuspecting human travelers into there doom.

but the deer from open season are fucking inexcusable.

something about this just didnt seem right. sure, yeah, they're not THAT BAD from intitial glances (especially adding the "It's Just A kids' movie!!1!!" excuse) but there are literally two things that bother me about this beside the exaggeration between the gender difference:

1-elliot is bipedal while giselle is quadrupedal. that for me didn't quite make sense. Elliot could've been quadrupedal too and it wouldn't effect the narrative because you can still have him be bipedal at times like a lot of cartoon animals are. though, granted, their children in the later movies are bipedal too, so I guess there's some though put into it.

but, also, something which bothered me EVEN MORE (because i recently realized this).

2-they're deer. and, while it does specify the species, i presume they're supposed to be white-tailed deer. do you wanna know something about white-tailed deer?

males. have. antlers. female. do. not.

let me repeat: their is already a difference between the two genders, and that's the fact that males have their trademark antlers while females do not. and that's with the most obvious differences. adding some slight masculine/feminine trait is ok, and especially since antler's are a seasonal thing. but if they're already a noticeable difference between the two sexes, the what's the point of going to such extreme lengths like this movie did?

but guys, while doing research (because i haven't seen the movies in a long time), i came upon something even worse about the character designs in this franchise.

i learned that Ian is also a deer, and again, presumable the same species as the other two. you wanna know what he looks like?

now, i do SOMEWHAT get where the movie was coming from, since he's supposed to be Eliot's main rival in the first movie and of course he's gotta look more "Tougher" and "manlier" than him, not just in attitude but design as well.

however, do you wanna know what i thought he was when i first saw the movies, and continued to think right up until doing research for this rant?

an elk. i though he was an elk. which, in all fairness IS a deer, but a completely difference species at that.

and for comparison between elk and white-tailed deer:

now, look at Ian, and then look back at Elliot and Giselle. now look at this image i pulled up.

now, maybe, JUST MAYBE, he is indeed an elk, and the movies never specified that he is an elk. in which case, yeah sure. but if so, WHY NO FEMALE ELK? all of the deer that look like elk in the movies are all male, so where's the female elk?

that is, unless of course they weren't thinking when they made the designs and thought that all deer species where the same and that nobody would notice.

now, boog and ursa have a similar issue in desgin:

they look like they're from two different series, but they're part of the same movie franchise. clearly the designers were, again, not very good with their designs.

however, it is excusable to some extent because both of them still are brown bears. both clearly are meant to be the same species, and while yes the design is distracting (and doesnt make too much sense) it at least works.

TL:DR: if you're male and female characters look like two difference species, you better try coming up with a good explanation for it.
