#so they did that here because they wanted to help celebi

i remember seeing posts about grovyle having to gain celebi's powers as a last resort and i just wanted to share my thoughts about how absolutely terrifying it would be for twig. id imagine that she has grown far enough in the dark future to know that "some things have to be done to ensure our survival" but she couldn't fathom what outcome would have happened for celebi to be essentially sacrificing herself just to ensure that they both could live.
and it all just goes downhill when the deed is done. giving grovyle's already haggered state and now what had to happen, he cant control himself. looking at his own hands feels him with disgust. his inexperience with the newfound time traveling ability nearly kills both him and twig way more than it helps, and its just how everyone looks him differently giving his new appearance. whatever dusknoir and the sableye think of him can go to hell, but it's how twig is just so distraught. she still trusts him, but it's like she sees his hands as though they are permanently stained with blood. maybe he sees it that way, too.
and dont even get me started on what will happen when they both get separated and grovyle will go on that little time gear hunt, oh dear. with him already losing the people who matter to him the most, id imagine grovyle is just already pushed beyond his limits as his goal in mind is set, and his just acts completely irrationally, not letting anyone stop him. entire time gear dungeons covered in greenery and thorns, its denizens scared for their lives and everyone confused as to how it even happens. and knowing that twig and kip will eventually have to face grovyle.. that's an entire different issue to unravel.
An additional detail that makes this even worse is that Twig was never outright told what would happen to them when they would change the future— at least when she was human. Grovyle couldn't bring himself to tell his little sister (who's barely reached double digits at that point) that none of them are going to live to see the world that they'll save. Twig will say something about how everything'll be worth it when they get to watch the sun rise together every day... and Grovyle will freeze up and stutter for a bit, before he quietly responds with something to the effect of how he can't wait for it. There's no way he can bring himself to tell her what happened to Celebi— from Twig's perspective, Celebi is just gone. And judging by how distraught Grovyle clearly feels about this, she probably ditched them. She wouldn't know that Celebi gave up everything so that they could accomplish their mission. She'd be confused by the fact that Grovyle has powers like Celebi did, but she wouldn't connect the dots.
Honestly, there wouldn't even need to be any interference on Darkrai's end for them to be separated. Grovyle wouldn't have the experience to maintain a stable passage of time. Twig would fall through because of this. Grovyle, in his eyes, killed the one person he had left, and it's his fault. And from that point on, he's got nothing to lose.
While he'd struggle deeply with long-term time travel using passages of time, he'd figure out how to make short jumps back and forth eventually— and then fighting him is 10x worse than you'd ever think possible. You beat him? Alright. He's traveling back to the start of the fight and trying again. He essentially figures out save states, and now the only thing stopping him from winning a fight is his own exhaustion— and he's got heaps of experience with being on the run for days on end without more than a delcatty nap with one eye open here and there.
The only reason Twig and Kip would make it out of Crystal Cave alive is because Twig's got a type advantage and set the place on fire when Kip is nearly cut in half after Grovyle attacks him. He'd try to win that fight over and over, but the fact that the area they're in is so overgrown thanks to his new abilities and Twig's summoned flames get more intense the more pain she's in and adrenaline she's got going through her (Blaze ability! Yay!) he'd have to eventually give up and recover from the confrontation. Dusknoir would arrive in time to catch a glimpse of Grovyle before he retreats, and instead of just feeling angry and disgusted at what he'd done to Twig and Kip, he'd be scared. Genuinely, truly scared of Grovyle— maybe just as much as he is of Primal Dialga.
Kip's recovery was hard during the normal AU. In this one, it's brutal. An amputation of much of his tail proves necessary, and he's lucky he got to keep all of his limbs. Twig got out physically whole— erupting into flames is an effective deterrent when it comes to a grass-type who prefers fighting in close quarters— but emotionally, she's not the same.
She doesn't have a perfect recollection of Grovyle's time traveling to retry the fight, but the dimensional scream paired with the temporal distortion surrounding her gives her an inkling. Team Venture would win. She'd turn to Kip, out of breath and relieved, ready to cheer that they did it— when suddenly she was back at the entrance of the cavern, starting the fight all over. And every time, Kip was injured worse and worse. Every time, she had to force herself to use the fiery powers she hated so much even more than she had in the fight before, just to have a chance to occupy Grovyle and protect her best friend. Supposedly, the fight took a few minutes. For her, it felt like hours of fighting off an unbelievably powerful enemy as he tried to finish off Kip before getting to her.
It's not being captured that brings Grovyle back to the Dark Future— it's a retreat to recover from the battle he had with Team Venture. At that point, Dusknoir hasn't kidnapped Twig and Kip or dragged them into the Future, but asked them to help him fight Grovyle while he's still weak. They went into the Future with him willingly. Primal Dialga's presence prevents Grovyle's save state strategy from working, so they actually might have a chance to defeat him. At one point in the fight, Kip shouts for Twig to look out, and Grovyle stops just short of impaling her as he realizes he recognizes the way her face scrunches up and tears well in her eyes when she's scared.
She's alive. She's okay. She's alive, and she's okay, but she has no idea who he is, and she's terrified of him. It doesn't matter if he tries to explain himself— she's solidly on Dusknoir's side now. And why wouldn't she be? It was only thanks to him wrestling Grovyle to the ground that he didn't manage to slit her throat just a few moments ago. Twig was always the one who insisted on stealth and subterfuge during their mission, while he was inclined to leap in headfirst and not wait for answers before he got into fights. Look at where that rashness had gotten him.
He scrambles up from where he had her pinned with an attack ready to run her through, and shouts at Dusknoir about this being some kind of trick. (He knows it isn't. He knows it's real. It can't be real. He needs it to be a lie.) Twig doesn't understand what's being said as they argue back and forth until there's a mention of the name Celebi, and something stirs amongst memories long forgotten.
"... Clover?"

Judge, Jury, and Hero (A short piece about the pmd2 Hero's Burden)
It had taken years, but she had finally found them all. The Time Gears, she knew where they were, she knew how to save the world and prevent all this from happening. She was so close, but a monumental task stood before her.
'The Passage of Time is just ahead.'
Her eyes flicked to the hovering pink Pokemon, and she couldn't help but smile. 'Thank you, Celebi.'
Celebi giggled. 'My pleasure! I would give my life again and again to see the sunrise.'
Grovyle nodded solemnly and spoke in his surprisingly deep voice. 'We'll set things right.'
Laying a hand upon Grovyle's shoulder, she looked fondly upon her friend. 'Are you ready? If we do this, we'll disappear.'
Grovyle smiled. 'A small sacrifice. At least wherever I go, you two will be with me.'
'There it is!' Cried Celebi.
Her eyes turning forward, she saw the Passage of Time, a swirling blue and black vortex, tucked amongst lifeless trees in a sparse forest.
With nothing more than a shared look, and a nod, she and Grovyle moved towards the passage, but a voice stopped them in their tracks.
'Hoo hoo hahaha! You didn't think you'd get away, did you?'
She whipped around, unsurprised to see Dusknoir sauntering closer, flanked by three Sableye on either side.
'I won't let you change the future!' Crowed Dusknoir.
Slowly, she knelt, and pressed her forehead to the ground. From there, she called, 'I'm sorry, Dusknoir!'
'Sorry?' Scoffed Dusknoir. 'Well, apology accepted. Let's head to Temporal Tower and join Master Dialga for some afternoon tea,' he drawled.
'I think it's morning, actually,' muttered Grovyle.
'You're condemning us all!' Dusknoir gestured wildly and his voice continued to rise as he drew nearer. 'Every Pokemon here would die, because you want to see the sun?!'
Standing, she dusted herself off. 'Plenty of Pokemon died because of this. Either way, people get hurt.'
'But that doesn't have to be us!' Dusknoir released a mighty sigh and his clenched fists loosened. 'Please, don't do this.'
'We have to.'
'I don't want to die! Is that so wrong?' Dusknoir clutched at his chest and the face on his belly twisted in agony.
Feeling warm tears streak down her face, she shook her head. 'No, no it's not. I, I'm sorry.'
As much as she believed in her mission, as much as she dreamed of the sunrise, she knew Dusknoir was right. For her to change the past would cause this world to disappear. Plenty of Pokemon would have long and happy lives thanks to that, but many others would be lost.
If it was just her, she'd do it in a heartbeat. She would give herself time and again to ensure Grovyle had a future, but things weren't that simple.
'Who are you to play judge, jury and executioner!' Yelled Dusknoir.
'You're doing the same thing!' She screamed back.
Dusknoir and the girl paused, each breathing hard and watching, waiting for the other to say something, eventually, Dusknoir hid his face behind his hand. 'I'm scared!'
Biting her lip, she nodded. 'So am I.'
Rubbing his eye, Dusknoir pulled his hand away from his face and cleared his throat. 'Perhaps, in another life, we'd have been friends.'
She smiled and wiped the tears from her eyes. 'I would've liked that. I'm sorry, Dusknoir.'
Taking Grovyle's hand, they dashed towards the Passage of Time, Dusknoir hot on their heels. Celebi zipped away from the charging behemoth and watched as the girl and Grovyle leapt into the Passage of Time, Dusknoir and the Sableye diving in behind them.
The Passage of Time roared and fluctuated for a moment, before growing silent, and disappearing. Celebi watched them go and felt her heart sink.

About one year ago...
There was no wind when the trees began to shake. A pulse went through them like the leaves were made of water and and a stone had just been tossed into their pond. Then, at the center of the ripple, a hole of light tore open, a celebi carrying an egg flew out, and the hole closed.
Celebi were guardians of the forest, a special environment tied to the power of time because of the age in the trees. This celebi was retired, like many. Their assigned forest far in the future had been completely torn down by humans. Retired celebis got to serve their father more directly, and had the task of delivering new siblings to a forest in a time and place that needed one.
The celebi looked around. Only peaceful, well watched forests deserved a guardian, so they had to pick where to drop the egg off carefully. If the people and pokemon did not care for the forest, there was no point in blessing them with a protector. This one seemed alright. In fact, there didnt seem to be any humans nearby at all-
"Are you sure nobody followed us?" It was a man's voice, coming closer.
Celebi quickly flew up into a tree with dense foliage. Maybe this wasnt such a great place for the egg after all.
The man came into view. He was dressed like a scientist, although his coat was rather damaged and burnt. Scientists tended to be a worse kind of human than others in Celebi's experience, but... they had to look a little to figure out what he was holding. It was a pale mewtwo kit. He was holding it like a human would their own baby, cradled in his arms. It was sleeping, and looked relaxed too. Celebi tipped their head to one side. This was unusual.
The man was talking to a shiny porygon floating besides him, which, to their surprise, spoke in a human voice. "I have not detected anybody, and I seriously doubt anyone has the stealth required to avoid my spectacular radar system."
"Right. I think this is a good spot to lay low. At least for a while. It doesnt look like anyone comes here but its near enough to civilization that living won't be hard. I'll have to be careful going into town but they're probably looking for a bald guy I can just wear a hat or something." He took a deep breath. "I can't believe that stupid plan worked."
"At least you're finally acknowledging how idiotic it was. Do you think the others are ok?"
The man frowned. "No, almost definitely not. The boss would be very interested in them, especially after seeing their power on display. But we can't really do anything about that. And I could tell they wanted to do what they did, despite the risks, for this little guy. They'd want us to keep him safe."
"This is true. I was still unraveling their method of communication, but I think they said they consider this guy a sibling and would risk everything to help you."
The celebi had heard enough. Apparently this man had risked his life to save the mewtwo kit. They couldn't ask for a better human to have their sibling share their home with. The man and porygon talked a little longer about how to keep their home hidden and who they could trust to reach out for help, then walked off to explore.
Celebi came down from the tree and also went to explore, trying to find a good spot to put the egg. Delivery wasn't supposed to take this long, it was going to hatch soon. They found a pretty patch of yellow flowers and set it down there. They gently laid a hand on it to give it a final blessing.
"May you bring this man hope that peace and safety is possible in this special place."
Another hole of light tore open and they flew through, the air perfectly resealing itself after they had gone.

Mildly cursed thought I had while doing firewood this morning: you mentioned in an ask last week that Val was found and caught in Sinnoh. Technically speaking this loosely does imply that Peach is from Sinnoh right? So if she’s going back to ancient Sinnoh in the Hisui comic, is there a chance she might have a run in with her ancestors? Would they be decent people? Or does the, what say, family business go back countless generations?
What I’m trying to get at here is that if it’s the latter, do you think Peach would like do something about it? Because she doesn’t seem like the kinda person who would ignore that kinda thing if she could stop it, it would save a lot of Pokémon from a lot of hurt. But it could also potentially remove her from the future and would undo the work she’s did, the countless people and Pokémon she’s helped. But going off of what we know about her family, and how she still feels about them and what they do, I feel that she may find the sacrifice at least a worthy thought.
Sorry this got kinda long! And I know you’ve said she comes back after the comic before (huge relief) just wanted to share my weird little theory thing
I have so many words I cannot share YET.
This all implies she realises WHO her family is in the past, she may have no idea who they are, and may act without that knowledge. She will do the right thing when presented with the information, but maybe she doesn't have all of it.
Peach is from Sinnoh yes, always has been, coincidentally the PLA games then came out in the very same region and I was just like THANK GOD THIS ALL WORKS OUT.
Her ancestors are there, somewhere, it's for the readers to figure out which ones they are.
Arguably, every action she takes, every decision made, or person removed is meant to happen. She will set her own story in motion through the honest guttural actions she takes, thats what the Celebi says, she can do what she feels is right, because whatever that is, is meant to happen in the grand scheme of things.
Nothing she does is initially bad enough to make her current timeline non-functional by the time she gets back.

Opinion on eebydeebies and sapient Pokemon?
[In response, a video has been attached. It’s of Storm, recorded using her XTransceiver. She’s looking dirty and haggard, and is in a dark corner of a cave, with only glowing blue crystals for light. The sounds of her Pokémon can be heard off-screen.
“Sapience vs sentience is a messy topic, because the meanings are so muddled culturally, and to be honest I never remember which is which.” Storm smiles with a shrug, before continuing. “But obviously Pokémon can be, if not ‘are all’-“ here he makes air quotes with his free hand, “-intelligent. It’s super well documented that some Pokémon can speak human language, to the point where the Rotom Dex and Rotom Phone are commonplace these days, and having spoken tons with Pal I think it’d be super hurt if I DIDN’T recognize it as sapient.” Pal chimes in here with a “love you”, promptly returned by the trainer with a smile.
There’s a small beat here, where Storm takes a moment to regain focus after being distracted. “Of course Pokémon have inner worlds! Metaphorically, I mean. I don’t think there’s any confirmed universe frogs or whatever!” Storm shakes his head, laughing. It’s genuine, but trails off quickly into a sigh before she turns back to the camera, serious again. “To think otherwise is willful ignorance.” She pauses for a second, looking dead into the camera, before she continues.
“Eebydeebies, though…? Dude, I’m not entirely convinced they’re not some sorta furry subculture, but I’m not gonna judge ‘em either way. Or… wait, not furries. Was it therians that genuinely assume animal identities? Whatever, you get what I mean. Far as I know eebydeebies haven’t really been studied, and I’ve only ever encountered ‘em online, so obviously I’m skeptical. It’s a weird thought!” Storm offers a weak, apologetic smile, before sighing.
“But I guess it’s no weirder than being stuck in some sorta time jail where one night lasts for months. What master of time let me slip through THAT crack in reality? I’ve been poking around online and apparently there’s a bunch of possible culprits.” He rolls his eyes, clearly unimpressed. “Celebi and Dialga, obviously, but also maybe Arceus? I’m in Unova but apparently Sinnoh has a history of time anomalies. And I hear Paldea’s got a busted time machine leaking Pokémon from both past and future times? Not to mention there’s plenty or rumors and ghost stories about a bunch of other things messing with time: Baltoy and/or magic(?) circles, random lockets, “energy crystals”, Rotom possessing an elevator, the list goes on. POINT BEING the world is weird and maybe eebydeebies really do exist. Who knows!” This is punctuated by a quick grin, and the camera jerks as she tries to throw up her hands, reflexively, before the grin morphs into a sheepish smile and he does his best to stabilize the video again. “Not me! I’m still stuck outside of time and inside Chargestone Cave! I’d ask you to send help but I don’t think that’s possible!” An edge of mania creeps into his voice, before he shakes himself bodily and turns to look off-camera.
“Hey Pal you haven’t possessed any elevators lately have you?”
Pal replies at speed, saying “No.”
“Cool. No weird glitches from your jailbreak?”
This response takes a moment to come back. “Well, I did not want you to WORRY, but-”
“PAL WHAT THE FU-”
At this point the faint blue glow from the crystals goes blinding, washing out the view of the camera, and the video cuts out.]

h. ello .
my name is dominique. we are related but that does not matter. i have questions for you .
i am very interested in the strange and unexplained events happening in the regions . i find them very neat . i want to learn more about them as i grow up and. i heard that you went through stuff like that.
i am sorry that happened to you . but also what happened in full . what was celebi like . did you see a. zigazagoon. thank you
thank you for answering my questions . i think you should get more sleep.
— 🎧🐾
▓▒░U(''°ᴥ°'')U░▒▓ hey, kiddo! Please don't tell random strangers online that you're related to them with no context!! I'm not mad at you, I just want you to know that you could really scare the life out of a fella doing that!!
For your questions though σ( ̄ᴥ ̄ʋ) I wouldn't say I've been through much unexplainable stuff. Really, most of it's just the result of a bunch of men with big egos fucking around and finding out. I did experience some odd things growing up in Unova, though!! U^ェ^U Lots of strangeness in the woods and out in the more rural parts! I can't remember a lot of it, long ago as it was, but one thing I remember is when I was out at a friend's farm late at night. We were out looking for bugs out by the Torchic coops, and suddenly, the Torchics went all quiet. Next thing I know, there's a whistling coming from in the coops. ▼・ᴥ・▼ I had a bad feeling about all of it, but my friend wanted to make sure there wasn't something in there killing all the mons, so he just tells me to go get his ma and pa, picks up a big stick, and charges on in there.
Kid's been a missing person's case for about fifty years now.
Anyways! U^ェ^U what happened with the Celebi!!
First off, it put up one hell of a fight!! O-(`ᴥ´Q)/ That's to be expected and all I suppose, being a mythical mon! The psychic armor worked a bit, but I still got tossed around a good bit and not to mention the whole U(” ⊚ᴥ⊚ ”)U time travel thing. But! V●ᴥ●V like I said! The little critter had no physical strength! The moment I got my teeth around the fucker's head, it was over.
I saw Zigzagoon in the past, but they looked kinda... Different? U(・ᴥ・;)U They looked closer to the kinds they got in Galar, but not quite the same. Weird as all get out. I wasn't really paying much mind to them though because I think I showed up in the middle of a war. I'm not sure what they were fighting about. Couldn't understand a word of what their leader said to me. Shit felt like touching down in Kanto all over again. U ´꓃ ` U A damn mess, really. All I knew was they saw me kill a mythical and figured I'd be of use to their side. They were dressed in red, the other side was dressed in blue. I wound up helping them win a crucial battle and took a fair chunk of the blue leaders out in the process. All in all, I think it took a month or so, but I lost track of time real damn quick. It was just so easy to lose myself out there. The pokemon and I fought the same. Claws and teeth. We don't fully grasp our handlers, but we know we have to fight. Destroy. The praise that rained on me when their necks broke. Ain't I the weapon they needed? The weapon to end them all? Am I not death?
▼・ᴥ・▼ where was I going with this?
Oh! U^ェ^U They gave me an egg for my efforts! All the best fighters over there had big ol' beastly pokemon by their sides so I suppose they wanted me to keep the fella. U(*´ᴥ`*)U Be kind of rude to turn the ol' fellas down now, huh? It hasn't hatched yet, but I'm keeping a close eye on it.
After all that, they invited me to some sort of star festival. Something about a pokemon that wakes up once every some odd years? ▼・ᴥ・▼ Figured I'd oblige. While I was there, I saw this little creature taking in energy from the stars. Something... Compelled me to speak to it. I don't know what. I figured it could hear me.
I asked it to take me home.
U^ェ^U And now we're here!! Anyways, hope this answers things!! It's a bit of a long story, but I suppose you don't seem the type to mind the ramblings of an old man. U( ´◡ᴥ◡`)U

Fic: An Unexpected Encounter
Characters: Professor (not professor then) Kukui, Professor Oak, Ash Ketchum, Gary Oak
Summary: Koa Kukui has traveled to Pallet Town in order to start his Pokémon Journey in Kanto, and while he’s there, he meets someone who feels strangely familiar...
A/N: This idea came to my mind many months ago but finally I found the time to finish this story. I love the SuMo episode where Celebi brings Ash back in time to inspire young Kukui, and when I remembered that Kukui also traveled in Kanto once canonically, I started thinking... what if the same also happened the other way around, without them knowing. So here’s the result. Keep in mind that Kukui was a kid when he met S&M era Ash, while in this fic he is a young adult while Ash is like 5, so no, he doesn’t know the connection (yet). Enjoy and please leave comments, it’s been /ages/ since I’ve last written anything Pokémon related!
Words: 2090+
[AO3 link]
...
“Hello, professor. It’s nice to finally meet you. My name is Koa Kukui.” A young man with his black hair under a cap and clothes that were slightly questionable for Kanto’s weather extended his hand to greet the region’s most well known Pokémon professor, Samuel Oak.
“Alola, Koa! Isn’t that what they say where you live?”
The young man chuckled at the comment.
“That is correct. I suppose your cousin has taught you a thing or two about our region already.”
“Yes indeed, he has. I make sure to visit him at least once a year because Alola is such a fascinating place. I was so surprised when I first saw your gigantic Exeggutor! And your Vulpix are ice type, right?”
“They are,” Kukui confirmed. “It is kind of ironic when you think about the weather differences between these two regions, but it starts making more sense when you learn that the Alolan Vulpix’ natural habitat is Mount Lanakila.”
“Yes, I once read Samson’s article about that.” Oak nodded. “But I don’t think you came here to educate me on the Alolan variants. Samson informed me that a very promising young trainer wishes to participate in our league challenge. What brought you this far from your home, though?”
Kukui’s mouth twitched slightly when he heard the compliment. Apparently Samson Oak did tell his cousin more than just Pokémon puns.
“I am interested in learning more about different kinds of Pokémon moves, but I don’t think Alola alone can give me enough challenge and information to complete my research. People there prefer playing and just relaxing with their Pokémon instead of battling. But hopefully our new school will inspire more young trainers to start battling more seriously and our competitive scene will grow. Once I get my degree finished, I might start teaching there too. However, my ultimate dream is having a league of our own in Alola but that seems a bit, sorry for the pun, Farfetch’d at this point.”
“You’re an ambitious one, aren’t you?” Oak said with amusement.
“I guess you could say that.” Kukui rubbed the back of his neck.
“Please stay that way,” Oak stated. “Remember that we Kantonians weren’t this serious about battling either back in the day. But the new generation, like our new champion Lance, always brings something new to the table. It sounds like you’re trying to achieve many different goals at once. I remember also being like that when I was younger…”
“Some people say I’m crazy for trying to Tackle so many things in such a short time but I can’t help it. This might sound a bit silly but I’ve been secretly itching to compete in the Indigo League ever since I was a kid. A boy I once met told me that he had battled in different Pokémon leagues and I remember wishing that I could do that too. I guess that thought has in a way stuck with me to this day.”
“Oh. That’s interesting. I think it’s a totally valid reason to want to travel here.” Oak’s eyes focused on his watch for a moment. Kukui imagined that with that many Pokémon in his lab, he probably had a very strict schedule. “By the way, did you bring any Pokémon with you?”
“Just my Incineroar,” Kukui replied. “He’s been with me since I was a kid. I left my other Pokémon in a friend’s care for a time being.”
“I see. I take it you’re planning to catch some new Pokémon here in Kanto, then.”
“Yes, that’s what I’m hoping to do.”
“In that case, we should probably start here.” Professor Oak pointed at three Pokéballs that were put on display on his work desk. Before Kukui managed to take any of the pokéballs into his hands, though, two kids ran into the room unannounced.
“Woah, are you gonna pick your starter?” the first one, with brown hair and clear resemblance to Professor Oak asked.
“What will you pick, what will you pick?” the other one, a boy with black hair and unique lightning shaped markings on his cheeks asked. There was something weirdly familiar about him even though Kukui wasn’t sure what made him think that way.
The boys were both still very young, according to Kukui’s estimation, maybe 4 or 5 years old, and they weren’t lacking energy. They kept staring at him intensely as he considered his options.
“Boys! It’s not polite to interrupt us when we are having a meeting!” Professor Oak scolded them. “I’m sorry, Koa, this is my grandson and his friend who lives nearby. I’ve told them that when I’m dealing with work related things they should not disturb me… but as you can see, they do not listen.”
“It’s OK.” Kukui laughed, waving his hand. “I still remember what it was like to be a kid. If I had been living in a place like this, you bet I would have been so curious about each and every Pokémon around me.”
“Alright, then,” Oak decided to let it be. “Well, I guess these boys are dying to know which starter you’ll choose, so, go ahead and make your decision.”
“You should pick Squee-tle!” Oak’s grandson exclaimed.
“Everyone knows that Cha-man-deh is the best!” his friend insisted.
Kukui was amused by how the boys pronounced the Pokémon’s names, but instead of mentioning that aloud, he took the third pokeball, with a tiny leaf sticker on the surface, into his hands.
“You know what, boys? I think I disagree with you both. I myself think that Bulbasaur is the best Kanto starter. Come out, Bulbasaur!”
A red light flashed in the room and a Pokémon appeared in front of them.
“Bulba! Saur!”
“Wow, it’s so cool!” the black haired boy exclaimed, having already forgotten that he supposedly preferred Charmander. “Look at this bulb on its back!” He started poking it and Kukui could see some kind of powder starting to float out of it.
“Be careful, kiddo!” He warned. “That could be poisonous or even cause paralysis!”
“But… but…” The boy didn’t have time to say more because he fell asleep on the lab floor faster than Kukui could say ‘Litten’.
“Well… I guess we now know the first move this Bulbasaur knows. Sleep Powder,” Kukui said awkwardly as he called the Pokémon back into its ball and lifted the sleeping boy from the floor. Professor Oak showed him a couch where he could let the boy rest while his grandson was jumping around him, asking Oak if he was going to be OK.
“Calm down, Gary, the powder will wear off maybe in an hour or so and he’ll be just fine. You guys have been in much worse incidents,” the professor noted.
Kukui wondered what kind of incidents those had been, but as he set the boy down, he made a solemn promise to be more careful with his Pokémon from then on when there were kids around.
“Oh, you’re finally awake!” Oak’s grandson, Gary, said when his friend opened his eyes about an hour later. He had been waiting with Kukui the whole time while Oak had gone off to feed the Pokémon he was taking care of. “We’ve been waiting for aaaages.”
“What happened?” the boy asked slightly drowsily. “Why am I here?”
“It was Bulbasaur’s Sleep Powder,” Kukui responded. “You got some of it into your system and fell asleep.”
“It was really effective, then!” the boy said happily, quickly shaking off his drowsiness.
“That’s one way to look at it,” Kukui laughed before getting serious again. “I am sorry, though. I should have warned you earlier. Bulbasaur sometimes extracts those powders when you poke its bulb.”
“It’s fine! One time I tried to ride one of Professor Oak’s Tauros. That didn’t end well,” the boy reminisced.
“Oh, what happened?” Kukui asked.
“I fell and broke some bones. They had to take me to the hospital. But I’m all good now!” the boy told him, like an incident like that was an everyday occurrence for him.
“Wow, sounds like you have a tendency to get into trouble, young man. Where I come from, Tauros are used as Ride Pokémon, but they can be really fast and unpredictable when they want to, so you need to have some practice before you’re allowed to ride them on your own.”
“Yeah… Well, the professor said we shouldn’t go near them… but he was out somewhere and Gary and I were bored so we wanted to see who would be a faster Tauros rider. I won because Gary didn’t manage to climb up his Tauros.”
“Hah, that’s only because I knew it was a stupid idea!” Gary claimed.
“He’s lying,” the other boy pouted.
“Alright, boys, let’s use Calm Mind” Kukui said before they started a bigger argument. “So, you spend a lot of time here in the lab, don’t you? You must really love Pokémon.”
“We do!” the boys answered in unison.
“Funny, I guess I’m a Psychic type because I knew that,” Kukui chuckled. “Are you thinking about becoming trainers when you’re older?”
“Yes, of course!” Gary answered without any hesitation.
“Yes, I’d like to…” the other boy said, not nearly as certain. Something about his tone caught Kukui’s attention. He couldn’t say he knew this boy very well yet because they had only exchanged a few sentences so far, but based on his earlier comments he wasn’t lacking confidence or will to learn more about Pokémon. That’s why it seemed a bit strange that he wasn’t as eager about starting his own journey as his friend seemed to be.
“Hmmm? You’d like to? Is there something hindering you?” Kukui asked. “If you want to tell me, of course.”
“It’s… my mum. Every time I tell her I want to be a Pokémon trainer when I’m bigger, she gets all weird.”
“Weird?”
“Yeah. She starts mopping or peeling the potatoes like she doesn’t hear me. I don’t think she wants me to become a Pokémon trainer.”
Apparently Oak’s grandson enjoyed sharing a good drama because when he realized that his friend wasn’t going to spill the beans, he announced: “It’s because of his dad. He started his Pokémon journey a looong time ago and never came back home.”
Kukui wondered briefly what exactly that meant; if the dad had simply left them or if he had died on his journey. Either way, he couldn’t help but feel bad for this boy he had just barely met.
“Gary! You didn’t have to tell him that!” the boy exclaimed.
“Grandpa always tells me you’re supposed to tell the truth,” Gary argued.
“Yeah, but…”
“Okay, I think I’ve heard enough,” Kukui stopped them. “It doesn’t matter to me why his mother thinks that way. There are still many years left before you’re old enough to become a trainer, right?”
“Yeah.”
“Well, take advantage of that time. Hang out here with the Pokémon whenever you can and show your mother how much you love them. If you still want to become a trainer when you’re old enough, she will understand. She’s probably just worried about you.”
“You think she would let me go?” the boy asked, sounding more hopeful.
“If you know how to pull from the right strings, she will,” Kukui winked at him.
“Awesome!” Suddenly the boy seemed to throw all his worries away and he asked: “Hey, hey, do you have any other Pokémon with you right now? I’d love to see them!”
“Sorry, I only have one with me here in Kanto and I left him at the Pokémon Center in Viridian City before I came here,” Kukui apologized. “I wanted to make sure he’s in good shape when we start our journey.”
“Owww, that’s too bad. But maybe you can show it another time.”
“Yeah, maybe.” Kukui smiled. “And who knows, maybe one day you and I will get to battle each other. Just keep on dreaming!”
“I will!” the boy promised.
Soon after that Professor Oak showed up again and told the boys to not annoy their guest who probably wanted to get going already. Kukui just waved his hand dismissively at him, telling him the boys were not bothering him. As they ran out to continue playing and he himself prepared to leave, he couldn’t get rid of a weird feeling. It was like he knew the dark haired boy already even though he had no idea how that was possible. Something also told him that this probably wouldn’t be the last time he would hear about these boys.

So, after drawing this, I wanted to write out this scenario of Ingo playing his celestica flute for Rosie. So, here it is! I just really like the idea of Ingo trying to share his experiences from Hisui with his daughter as the last living member of the Pearl Clan.
Words: 1,256
Rosie woke up earlier than normal one morning. She groaned and looked at the clock. 7:47 am. On a Saturday morning. She had been hoping to sleep in at least until 8:30 if not 9:00. But she couldn't go back to sleep. So, she just kept laying in bed.
The sound was soft and quiet. The longer she laid in bed, the more she was able to focus on listening to the sound. She slowly started to realize that it sounded like a flute. And it sounded like it was nearby.
"Well, I might as well try to find the sound, since I can't go back to sleep," she reasoned.
Rosie quietly made her way out of bed, making sure to not wake Marnie, who shared a room with her. She left the room and followed the sound all the way towards the deck.
The door that led to the outdoor deck on the second floor of their house had a window in it, allowing Rosie to look outside. Sitting there in one of the deck chairs was her dad. Ingo had his back towards her as he played a flute while several Sneasels surrounded him. His own Sneasel, that he had been able to take home with him from Hisui, was sitting on his lap. They all seemed almost mesmerized by the music he was playing.
Quietly, Rosie cracked the door open. However, it wasn't nearly as quiet as she had hoped it would be. The door hinges creaked slightly, which alerted the Sneasels and then Ingo to her presence.
"Oh, sorry, Dad. I didn't mean to interrupt."
"No need to apologize, Rosie. But did my practicing wake you up? I apologize if that's the case." Rosie shook her head.
"No, I woke up on my own. Guess I just couldn't sleep in today." She walked over to him, being careful to not trample any of the Pokemon. "Um, why so many Sneasels?"
"Ah, it's because of the specific tune I was playing," Ingo explained. "This was the tune Lady Irida taught me for when I needed to call Lady Sneasler. It also has an effect on Sneasels."
Rosie nodded as she started to pet the Hisuian Sneasel on Ingo's lap. The Sneasel purred and Rosie pulled up a chair to sit next to Ingo. The Sneasel then moved to sit on Rosie's lap, and she nuzzled her head against Rosie's chest.
"I've never seen you play that flute," Rosie commented.
"I typically like to practice alone. I'm not embarrassed to play in front of others, but I typically only ever played my flute for Lady Sneasler, unless I had to teach a tune to someone," Ingo said as he looked down at his flute. "I guess I also just like playing alone to feel more connected with the sound and with the Pokemon around me. It makes me feel as though I am back in Hisui."
"Do you ever wish you could go back to Hisui?" Rosie asked.
"No, at least not permanently," Ingo said after a moment of thought. "As much as I miss the friends I made there, this is my home. I never felt like I belonged in Hisui, and I had always hoped I could regain my memories and somehow get home. I am glad that Emmet came to help me with that."
"Would you ever go back to visit?"
"Perhaps, as long as I would know that my stay would be temporary." Ingo smiled a little as a thought crossed his mind. "It would be nice to introduce you to the other members of the Pearl Clan. Lady Irida would be very happy to meet you, as well as the other wardens. I am sure the Diamond Clan and Galaxy Team would also like to meet you, and Lady Sneasler would surely love you as well."
"Yeah, I'd love to meet all your friends!" Rosie said excitedly. Ingo chuckled.
"Perhaps I can see if Emmet can summon a Celebi again to take us there for a temporary stop," Ingo suggested.
"Yeah!"
There was a beat of silence before Ingo lifted up his flute again.
"Would you like to hear me play some more?" he asked.
"Oh, yeah!" Rosie scooted closer, eager to hear him play.
Ingo brought the flute up to his lips. He held the flute with his left hand as his fingers automatically went to the holes of the flute, and his right hand rested at the bottom, almost covering the end of the flute. He then began playing a beautiful tune.
Rosie watched him as she listened to the music. She watched as he moved his fingers along the flute to create just the right notes. His movements seemed so fluid and natural from years of practice, as if this was something he always knew how to do. He didn't even need to look down. She could understand how the Sneasels were so mesmerized by it.
Eventually, Ingo stopped playing and lowered his flute.
"Can you teach me how to do that?" Rosie asked. "That was so cool and the music was so pretty!" Ingo smiled and handed her the flute.
"Would you like to give it a try?"
Rosie took the flute carefully and looked at it. She then looked to her dad who just nodded encouragingly.
She held the flute up to her lips and held it in her hands the same way she saw Ingo hold it. He nodded, then pointed to a few of the holes.
"Place your fingers here on these holes like this. That will create the first note," he explained. Rosie did as she was told, then blew into the flute. It was the first note of the song that Ingo had just played.
"I did it!" Rosie looked up to Ingo with a big smile.
"Bravo! That was perfect!" Ingo practically shouted his praise. Rosie chuckled and played the note again.
"Shall we try the next note?" he asked. Rosie nodded, and Ingo showed her where to move her fingers.
This continued for a while as Ingo taught Rosie each note one at a time. As they added each note, Rosie played through what she knew, and it slowly started to sound closer to what Ingo had played. Just as she was starting to get close to finishing the song, there was a knock on the deck door. They both turned to see who it was.
"I am Emmet. Are you two coming to eat breakfast?" Emmet asked as he peeked out through the door.
"Morning Uncle Emmet! Dad's teaching me how to play the flute!" Rosie said as she held up the instrument. She then played a few notes to show what she knew.
"Oh, that sounds verrry good, Rosie!" Emmet clapped for her little performance.
"She is a very fast learner," Ingo added.
"Can we practice some more after breakfast?" Rosie asked.
"Of course. I'm sure Piers and Marnie will be happy to hear you play as well. For now, we should head inside. And you," Ingo looked to the wild Sneasels, "should all head home now. We can play more for you later."
The Sneasels all let out little cries of slight disappointment before scampering off the deck. Rosie handed Ingo his flute back and she picked up the Hisuian Sneasel in her arms so she could carry her inside. Ingo followed after her, and they were both quickly met with the smell of pancakes wafting in from the kitchen. It was time for breakfast.

*vitesse quickly bounds after astrape, picking up speed quickly as she volts after the other joltik, she definitely seems to be enjoying herself*
Of course, I'm verrry sorry for bringing it up dad, I'll try not to mention the... End track for anymore of your pokemon.
Oh! That does sound accurate to an encounter me and cronos had while traveling! We might have time traveled enough to get.. alot of celebi's attention, lots who were not verry happy to see me there, cronos helped out though! They advocated for me to stay as their passenger and before we knew it we got back here! Please do not worry about rambling! I have the same problem, frequently I have gone off on various subjects at inappropriate times, but this is an appropriate time to ramble! Though before you do dad I have to ask, how do you know that? Because if I am reading this correctly, which I might not be, I'm not quite good at this, it sounds like you have personal experience there dad, did you get time traveled by an angry celebi father? Did you know someone who did and should I be writing down names incase they're in the future? -icarus
He sighs “I.. did have a a run in with a celebi many many years ago… I wasn’t the kindest person back then so I only wanted to use it. So I’m glad it sent me a bit further into the future. I never told anyone the amount of legendaries I’ve tried to capture after Giratina.”

Last but certainly not least of the Halftime pub employees, a familiar and yet so very different face. She is a what-if character inspired by @sparklingdemon's "Explorers of Death" creepypasta, not appearing directly in the story, and whose design was first drawn by @braindeaddragulj-blog, used and changed with permission into the above. Essentially an OC of a non-OC in a creepypasta.
In a word, and because it's relevant, the past is doomed. And if the past was doomed, so too was the future doomed. Thus...the name, Doom. Original. She might have experienced the loss of her lover and killed a time god, eh, nothing to write home about. Questions, doubts and pain swirl in her mind and the one thing she knows is battling and exploring the world takes the edge off. She's loud, boisterous, and egotistical, but after pounding the drinks her soft inner self comes out. Those tears never stop flowing, by the way. You'd be agitated too if you never stopped crying...
More under the cut.
She waited for her world to be saved from the past. But the past was doomed...and so, she continued to live on the run. Knowing it would never stop. It would have kept going like that, forever and ever; Passages of Time becoming more guarded, Primal Dialga's attempts at ending her life becoming more desperate and harsh. It would have been an entire Celebi's lifetime of running, or getting caught...and she chose to stand and fight. When her loved one eventually could not run anymore, she took it upon herself to defend him as best she could. But it was to no avail...and after his life passed, so too did the lives of his killer. All at her hands.
To say that she was driven mad would be apt, but it was more frustration than frenzy. The past was doomed for reasons beyond her control. She held onto hope as long as she could, believing something would change...but what changed was her. If there were no heroes coming, she would have to become one. It was then that she proved that a simple traveler of time could best the embodiment of time - even if it would cause her world to become unstable, why would she care? She has time running through her veins, and all that she cared about was already taken from her. What did she have to lose by not holding back her rage?
Paths began to open. The frozen world she was used to began morphing, bringing new landscapes, new people. Where once there were wild, unruly, savage Pokemon, there sprung up communities, cities, entire biomes set in their own time and space. Such was the effect of the defeat of Primal Dialga. And yet her loss remained, and got heavier with every passing day. Her tears flowed so much and so freely that her tear ducts ruptured; rivers of tears became rivers of blood. Her body became paler from this, and her eyes took on a near-permanently bloodshot look. Living in the wild cause her hair to become unkempt, and while she never stopped running even after Primal Dialga's defeat, she kept mentally mapping the landscape, thinking she would have to return to these new locales.
It was when she was traveling through one of these newly-created biomes that she happened across a group of Celebi trying to start a business of their own...and she thought to lend them a hand. From what it sounded like of their pasts, and of their looks, they were sent here half-dead, but with enough regrets and experience to want to make something positive of their lives - or however much they had left, anyway. With her mind now warped by her losses and stained by her thirst for battle, she still reached out to help; with her likely being the only one experienced enough in the world they live in to travel the long distances necessary to bring the supplies they needed, she gladly took on the responsibility. Her time in this doomed future could then at least be of use to someone, and especially if it helps others drown out their sorrows in drink rather than turning to battle like she did.
Doom helps out the pub more than any of them give her credit for, despite her overwhelming presence and personality that molds the mood of the pub to what she sees fit, with most seeing that as a negative. It is, after all, her responsibility for ensuring the pub is stocked with everything it might need; while she might not always need to scale mountains or cross great ravines to achieve this, she still treats it like an adventure. Her aptitude for exploration and fighting means she is more than capable of securing supply routes and getting what she wants from those that have it. While sometimes this means going out and picking apples or simply shopping, sometimes it might mean haggling, fighting for a claim, or doing tasks to be rewarded with what she wants. She's always finding excitement whenever she heads out; she might be accosted by a group of still-wild Pokemon, find a new community to do business with...and with her world like a maze, she knows exactly how to exploit it for herself. One might say that with that worn-out bag slung around her shoulder that she evokes the image of an explorer...but she thinks of herself as an opportunist and a deliverer of justice, nothing more.
It was Ellis's plea that struck her the most from their initial meeting. Despite looking the worst of the group of Celebi, he had a certain...sense to him. Something that she felt they shared: the loss of a loved one. She could see it in his eye. A part of her feared what powers he might have to not just live in his current state, but also what thoughts of revenge or pain he might yet have. She treats him the most normal of the group, and tries not to upset him too much. It's his presence that makes her think twice about what she says or does more than any of the other Celebi.
Mute was brought in after progression on the pub gained traction, but like Ellis, the pale Celebi hasn't bothered with antagonizing her too much. It might be her heightened senses, or just that she doesn't trust anything that looks half-dead, but she looks...too innocent. Not that it has any bearing on one's past or experiences, but Doom feels she's hiding something behind that sorrowful look. Mute's optimism falls flat on Doom; it's often she that cleans up after her, including her bloody tears on the countertop. Snowy was among the Celebi that Doom met when the pub was first starting, and they initially had a solid relationship as the two shared their knowledge of the harsh climates they lived in. That soon fell apart when he became a little too social for her, and when, after a few less-than-stellar outings, she was confronted about the lack of product. It was something out of her control, and considering what had happened up until this point, she did not feel like being a scapegoat, and thus came to dislike Snowy for being too pushy and accusing her of things she hasn't done. Still, when she does drink, it's Snowy's ear that she has to tell of her woes, so even she doesn't know if she's just playing hard-to-get or just what their relationship really is. On the opposite spectrum is Anne, another Celebi that was there when the pub began. Their relationship shattered faster than hers and Snowy's, as the green 'bi was quick to show just how untrustworthy she is. Doom has advocated for Anne to be replaced, but that has since fallen on deaf ears, with both Celebi being extra wary of each other whenever they're in each other's presence. On one hand, if she gives Anne what she wants, she's letting her win; on the other hand, if she doesn't, customers suffer. As much as Doom wants to show her up, she hates lying and she hates breaking promises even more, so she still holds up her end of the business bargain. The two's arguments are enough to shape the mood of the whole pub, should it be a quiet night. Max is usually the most forgettable Celebi to her; their day-to-day paperwork is boring, and while he's usually saving her from getting into fights she shouldn't pick, she's also quick to change her mind to complain or vent about something else. Despite not even registering his presence half the time, she still tries not getting on his bad side, but she has seen enough to respect his powers. The two barely share words otherwise, and any inventory disputes between the two are easily taken care of. One might say their relationship is the most positive in the entire pub, but Max begs to differ, and they usually meet outside where no other eyes are. ...On Doom's travels, she's happened upon quite a lot of things. A broken badge of some sort caught her attention, as it reminded her of the Celebi she worked with. Its design reminded her of something, so she kept it with her. It's rumored that this badge inspired the logo for the pub...

Ok. But thinking about the hell Kid Ingo must be going through with his brother missing. The argument is probably the biggest one they’ve ever had. And at first Ingo is not sorry and thinks the argument is Emmet’s fault. Emmet storming out of the house was childish; but he’ll be back.
Except, he doesn’t come back. Day turns into evening and Emmet doesn’t come back for dinner. Nobody’s seen him since sometime in the morning. By nightfall a search party has been formed by police and concerned neighbors. Maybe joined by a helpful traveling trainer or two.
Not sure where the boys live, but I’m imagining a small town surrounded by woods, which the kids are generally forbidden from exploring because dangerous Pokémon live in it. At least not without a partner Pokemon to protect them but even then it’d be risky unless said partner is well trained. The town is searched throughly but there is no sign of him. It is thought that he might have ran away into the woods, so the search expands to look for him there.
I imagine that at this age Emmet at least has his Tynamo. But it’s debatable if Emmet had it on him or not when he stormed out of the house. If not there’s the frantic thought that he’s out there defenseless. If yes, I imagine Tynamo was left behind when Emmet was sucked into the past and is found frantically crying out and searching for him, having maybe even witnessed what happened. It looks a little scuffed up and adults come to the conclusion Emmet was attacked by a wild Pokémon and Tynamo wasn’t enough to protect him.
At first there is hope he will be found quickly but a few days go by with no sign of him anywhere. It is generally assumed he met an unfortunate end and talks of holding a funeral start cropping up.
Ingo, in the midst of all this, starts getting referred to as Emmet’s brother, which gives him a taste of some of the things that lead to the argument from Emmet’s side.
Ingo is, of course, frantic with worry and now feels like the argument was all his fault. That it’s his fault Emmet is missing. His brother might be gone forever and the last thing Ingo said to him was that he hated him.
The reason Ingo might initially seek out Celebi is not to find his brother, but try to prevent the argument that lead to him storming out of the house to begin with.
OH MY GOD THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING
Buckle up y’all this is gonna be a long one
Ok so. Maybe Kid Ingo didn’t mean to go to the future at all. Maybe it was a mistake. He found Celebi but essentially has no idea how time travel is actually supposed to, you know, work. He intends to simply turn back time to a week in the past and prevent the argument but ends up accidentally jumping 20 years in the future instead.
He somehow ends up in Gear Station in modern-day Nimbasa City. He is completely disoriented and almost gets hit by an oncoming train in the first five minutes of being there because he appeared on the tracks. He knows immediately that he’s made a big mistake and is completely terrified because he doesn’t know where he is or even what year it is.
He ends up wandering around the station like a lost puppy for a while trying to get his bearings but it’s big and confusing and he doesn’t know his way out. There are plenty of people there but he is too scared to ask for directions because he knows he’ll sound crazy. All the while he can’t stop thinking about what he’s done. He doesn’t know how he got here; what if he can’t get back home? Why did he think this was a good idea in the first place? Oh god—what about his mother? When she discovers he’s gone she is going to be heartbroken because now she’s lost both of her twin sons, and how could he do that to her?
Eventually he becomes so confused and overwhelmed that he sits down on a bench and is about to start bawling into his hands when he spots a man in a white conductor uniform. When he sees him, something clicks in his mind. Somehow, this man looks familiar, and Ingo desperately wants to talk to him. He’s heading somewhere, and Ingo doesn’t know why, but he decides to follow.
He must be getting off for the day because Ingo follows him out of the station and into the streets of Nimbasa City. The sky is the dark shade of navy that it is just before fading into black, but the streets are well lit with colorful neon lights. Ingo doesn’t know what time it is; he doesn’t have a watch—but he finds it astonishing how many people are out in the streets at such an obviously late hour. He can hardly follow where the man goes in the crowd, but thankfully he is pretty recognizable so when he loses him he finds him again fairly quickly.
He follows him all the way until he digs a key into the door of a second-story apartment about a block from the station and disappears inside.
Ingo waits for a few minutes behind a hedge in indecision. His gut instinct is to go up and knock on the door until the man answers. But… what is he going to say to him? Why does he expect that this random guy can help him at all?
The sky is completely dark by the time that he decides to go with his gut. Besides, it’s not like he has much to lose at this point.
He knocks. And knocks. And knocks. After a couple minutes pass he wonders if he should stop. The man is probably suspects he’s trying to sell him something and doesn’t want to answer. He should probably give up and start thinking about how he’s going to get himself out of this mess.
He is just about to do just that when the door flies open.
“I told you already, I don’t want to—“ the man stops mid-sentence, shifting his eyes down. His eyes widen and his mouth falls open.
It’s then that Ingo finally figures out why he looks familiar. He is older, sure, but he’d recognize his eyes anywhere. It’s like looking into a mirror, after all.
“Emmet?” He asks, although he already knows.
“I… I am Emmet,” he stammers. “And you’re Ingo… and… what are you doing here?!”
Ingo considers the question but he doesn’t really know how to answer, and besides, he is too busy analyzing adult Emmet. He thinks finding him is a good thing, because if he’s an adult that must mean that he didn’t die out in the woods, right?
That or he is really, truly in neck deep trouble because he’s landed himself in an alternate universe.
A familiar smile stretches across his face. It looks a bit forced to Ingo. “You must be verrry tired,” he says, even though Ingo still hasn’t answered his question yet. “Why don’t you come in?”
Ingo accepts his offer, and steps into the apartment. As he’s looking around, adult Emmet turns off the tv in the living room, hastily discards several newspapers in the trash, and invites him to sit down on the couch. As soon as he does, he says, “Alright. This is the part where you tell me how you got here.”
Ingo is careful about phrasing how he found his way here. He tells Emmet that he was looking for him, that he found Celebi in the woods, and, thinking that it might be able to help him, used it to get here. He expresses how worried he and his mom are and how sorry he is for driving him away that night. He leaves out the part about him having no idea how he got here and equally no idea how to get back.
“Okay, look.” Emmet says once he’s done. “I appreciate you trying to find me. Really, I do. But here’s what’s going to happen. You’re going to use that Celebi of yours to go back to where you came from. Wait a couple weeks and see what happens. Got it?”
While the words sink in, the fear and confusion that has been stewing in his chest all evening rises to the surface, and Ingo’s lip begins to tremble. Emmet notices the change in his expression almost immediately, and he’s just starting to say, “Oh no… don’t cry—“ when Ingo bursts into tears.
Emmet moves to sit next to him on the couch, and rubs his back and hands him tissues as he manages a blubbery confession in between bouts of hiccups and sobs. “T-the truth is… I-I have… no idea how to get back,” he says. “I’ve made a terrible mistake, and… and I don’t know if it c-can be fixed.”
“It can be fixed,” Emmet promises him. “It can always be fixed. And I’m going to help you fix it, okay? So don’t cry.”
This time when Emmet smiles, Ingo matches it with a wobbly smile of his own through a haze of tears. Emmet hugs him to his chest and Ingo buries his face in his shirt.
“We’re going to figure this out,” he promises. “Together.”
Ingo believes him.

Angsty Submas Reunion AU Part 5
The Final Chapter! All ends here!
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
To start, with Sinen
Sinen was found unconscious in the words a few miles from Azalea town by an old man named Masao
-Masao was very old and did not like civilization
With the help of his Pokémon, who were all also getting up there in years, Masao brought the unconscious young man back to his home and healed him up
Sinen was very grateful
-Not that either of them understood the other’s language
Sinen, after being healed, headed in the direction Masao pointed him
-He spent ten minutes in Azalea town before returning, looking terrified
–He didn’t know why but everything about that place screamed Wrong to him
He returns, pantomiming that he wants to stay
-Masao was confused but happy
–He was getting too old to thrive in his chosen lifestyle, he could barely chop wood anymore and his Scyther passed a few years prior
—Now he can stay in his home, because of this technophobic, Poképhobic kid who helps out
He lives a few more years before passing peacefully and Sinen buries him in the small graveyard he’d made for his Pokémon as they’d moved on.
Sinen gets more used to Pokémon as the years pass
-He even has a few that stay with him, a little Budew and a Zubat.
–He refuses to use Pokéballs though
He even has a little Pokémon friend that comes to visit him regularly enough that he leaves berries out for it.
-He calls it ‘Beebee’, since that’s what it says the most
–Meanwhile Celebi is waiting for when it can send this guy Home. It can tell he’s not from Now, but something is blocking it from sending him Then
—That something being Arceus
Then comes the day Sinen accidentally buys the textbook on Hisui
-He reads it because ‘why not?’
—But it’s weird. He recognizes things in the book, the logos of the Diamond and Pearl Clans, the map of the region. Was he a history student maybe?
Finally he reaches the section on the Wardens. The chapter on the Wardens of the Coronet Highlands
-And the sees a picture of himself
–Sinen passes out and Dreams his entire life
His first thought upon waking is ‘Oh Almighty Sinnoh! Everyone must think I’m dead! Melli must think I’m dead!’
His second thought is 'I can’t believe Melli stole my job! He never even wanted to be a Warden!’
-Because yeah, Sinen never realized why Melli started to act, from his point of view, so prideful and boastful all of the sudden
–He’s hurt that Melli took advantage of his death to become Lord Electrode’s Warden
—That Adaman let him!
He’s not sure he wants to return, if there's a place for him now! Everything he's been working towards is gone!
-Though he knows he does, since he’s in that photograph alongside another set of twins
–So Sinen continues living as he had been, waiting for his future to bring his past
That day comes not a week later
Meanwhile, with the Unovans
They know where Ingo is, they know when Ingo is.
-They just need to figure out how to get there
Looker is the one who suggests using a Legendary, as some of them are easy to find and appease, if you know where to look
So off to Sinnoh they go!
The reach the shrine, and Celebi is there, waiting for them
Celebi leads them to Sinen, who they recognize from the photograph and who recognizes Emmet from the same thing
“I guess this is happening now, then?”
And then Celebi lets out a cry and everything starts to spin
-Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
Finally, Back in Hisui
The Pokédex is finally complete, Akari has just returned from Fighting God
-After defeating Arceus she got her memories back, and so she tells everyone her name is Dawn and she is from the future and thinks Warden Ingo is too.
Both the Clans, the Ginkgo Guild, and the Galaxy Team are all going to search for Volo to be put on trial
-Attacking a Noble Pokémon is a crime, and he attacked The Almighty Sinnoh, causing the Frenzies.
Then Dawn reveals that Arceus sent her here, and can probably send her back.
-And Ingo if he wants
Ingo…Isn’t sure he does want to go back
-He still doesn’t remember most of the details of his home, but surely his family has mourned him and accepted he was dead by this point
–And wouldn’t it be cruel for him to go back and get their hopes up Emmet might return as well, when Emmet is gone?
It’s Melli who convinces him to consider it
-Not because he wants Ingo gone, but because he knows there’s still so much Ingo misses, even without remembering it.
Melli has chilled out a bit after the conversation with Adaman
-Not that anyone else knows that’s what caused it
–Most of the older members of the Diamond Clan assume that seeing another person lose their twin finally made him process Sinen’s death and stop trying to live up to a ghost
—Because all the adults in the Clan put up with Melli’s behavior because they knew what he was trying to do
Everyone goes to Prelude Beach, all the Wardens, both Clan heads, the higher ranking members of Team Galaxy.
-They all want to see this
Dawn pulls out the fragment of Arceus she caught
“I want everyone who was displaced by the time-space rift to have the option to go home. What do I need to do?
Arceus stares at her
Everyone stares back
Arceus blinks once, nods, and a strange cry echoes through the area
-Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
AND FINALLY! THE PART YOU'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!
There’s a swirl of lights and colors and suddenly there’s a large group of people there
-A larger group than anyone in Hisui expected
–Irida gasps as she recognizes several of them from Ingo’s drawings
The Unovans look around, looking at all the people and the old clothing styles, hoping they’re in the right area
Drayden sees Ingo first, and gives a sigh of relief “It worked.”
From behind Drayden “It worked?!”
-Ingo hadn’t seen Emmet at first, because he’d been hidden behind Drayden’s frame
–“INGO!!!”
–“EMMET?!?!”
The twins run to each other and crash to the ground in an embrace
-E: “I thought I’d never see you again!”
-I: “I THOUGHT YOU WERE DEAD!!”
-E: “What?! Whyy??”
-I: “We! Your coat! In a landslide! I- I thought you’d been crushed! and then fallen into a river! I finally remembered and you-” He squeezes tighter and buries his face in Emmet’s shirt
–At this point Drayden reaches the twins, pulls them both up, and pulls them into a hug that Elesa joins a moment later.
Melli watches this with a pinched look on his face
-He’s happy for Ingo, he is!
–But it’s not fair! After all that Ingo gets his twin back?!
He forces himself to look away, to see who else is-
Melli gives a strangled cry and falls to his knees, Adaman looks at him in concern before following his eyes to
“SINEN?!”
The present members of the Diamond Clan freeze and look.
-Yup, that’s Sinen.
Sinen plasters a grin to his face, and lets Adaman yank him into a tight embrace
-He’s still unsure he wants to be here, if he has a place here anymore
–Even though he understands it, that the Clan can’t stop whenever someone dies
—And that someone had to become Lord Electrode’s Warden, and Melli had been there for his training
Sinen pulls back from Adaman and looks at Melli, who hasn’t moved since he fell to the ground
–Melli is in shock
—Mai is the one who drags him up and over to Sinen
—-Once in arm’s reach, Melli starts crying and clings to Sinen
—–“I’m sorry, I’m sorry I never meant it! I’m sorry!! I-”
——Sinen had forgotten about the argument, but even without knowing what Melli was talking about, he knew one thing: he wanted Melli to stop crying
——-“I know you didn’t mean it, Smelli, I’m not an idiot”
——–WHY DOES THAT MAKE MELLI CRY HARDER?!
———Sinen is confused!
While sitting on the sidelines of the party, not used to so many people anymore after living with just one old man and some Pokémon for years, Sinen makes an offhand comment to Adaman about how well Melli apparently handled his death, becoming Lord Electrode’s Warden and all
There’s a party to say goodbye to Ingo and Dawn
-Ingo says goodbye to Lady Sneasler and his family (HIS FAMILY!) help gather his possessions
--His notebooks and drawings
--Interesting rocks or shells that he gathered or that Akari Dawn or one of the baby Sneasels had brought him
--The remembrance altar he'd set up for Emmet, with his uniform and the photograph.
---Everyone got a bit choked up when they realized what that was.
-He’s not angry about it…anymore. Just a bit hurt
Adaman thinks it’s a joke at first, before realizing Sinen is actually serious, and actually hurt by it
-Adaman quietly pulls Sinen further aside to talk in private, ecause this is apparently a conversation that needs to be had
–“Sinen. Melli barely moved for a month after to…left. We had to force him to eat and drink. He didn’t talk for two months. Do you know what the first thing he said after that was?”
–“No?”
–Adaman pokes Sinen in the forehead “The first thing he said to me, to anybody was that he wanted to be Lord Electrode’s Warden. BECAUSE-” Adaman raised his voice when it looked like Sinen wanted to say something- “If you couldn’t fulfill your dream, he’d do it for you.”
—“Oh.”
—“Yeah. 'Oh’.”
—-Adaman also gives Sinen some extra perspective on the whole Thing He Never Saw
—–And tells Sinen Melli how blamed himself for the Incident
—–“Oh, that’s what he was apologizing for! I hadn’t remembered that. Of course he didn’t mean it!”
——Sinen is ashamed of himself quite a bit, once it’s all lain out for him, but Adaman drags him back to the group before he can spiral
Melli grabs them both into a hug, he panicked was worried for a second when he couldn’t find see them. He thought for a second that he’d imagined it.
Anyway, the photo is taken
The Unovans go home
Melli and Sinen have a heart-to-heart and Sinen talks about all the things Melli was actually good at, without having to
-The sort of things Sinen talked about to anyone who would listen before his Incident. Like cooking, making clothes, foraging for the best plants, he has a whole list
–Just…not in front of Melli, who always seemed to think Sinen was joking
—Which upsets Sinen now that he realizes Melli thought he was just teasing him and felt like he wasn’t good at anything
Melli almost breaks so many protocols by trying to just hand Sinen the Warden Bracer out of the blue
-Thankfully only the two of them and Adaman were there
–Adaman bops him on the head and tells him that they have to do the formal ceremony, idiot
–Sinen does become Warden, and Melli gets to become a seamster and make clothes, because let’s face it, that guy likes fashion
AND FIN!

Hi, how are you doing? Hope you’re having a good day/night wherever you are.
I have an idea of sorts inspired by the time paradox au an Anon did so all credit for this idea goes to them. I’m thinking of calling this Sinnoh and Unova’s wrath Au (SUW for short). It’s still sort of a work in progress and I hope that it’s okay to share here. Feel free to give suggestions and thoughts/criticisms about the Au.
Basically, it first focuses on the future where the world is experiencing strange space-time abnormalities thanks to Volo’s meddling and Giratina not fixing everything. While some are minor, others like Sinnoh and Unova are more constant and severe. The Pokémon league of both of those regions are doing their best to help as many as they could but some of them like Drayden got injured in the process. Arceus is trying to keep the whole universe from falling apart but eventually they say screw it and decides that they need to deal with Volo once and for all. But they’re not going to go down and punish him, oho no, that would be too easy and it would just be giving Volo what he wants. No, Arceus wants Volo to see the consequences of his actions and how he should have thought things through.
So Arceus contacts trainers from both Unova and Sinnoh and explained everything to them before sending them to Hisui (I imagine that the Celebis are busy saving as many people and Pokémon as they can from being lost in time). I’m still not sure if Arceus would send in Reshiram and Zekrom though, I guess it depends on them and if they want to follow. (I also considered sending in Barry and Dawn cuz they deserve to get angry at Volo but I’m not sure, feel free to add what you think)
Back in the past, Rei/Lucas (I wanted to spice things up a bit) was close to losing, Giratina had already transformed and is really powerful. Ingo, Irida, Adaman and Kamado are there because Ingo noticed to commotion and came up while sending messages to the rest to inform them of what’s going on and it didn’t take long for them to come over thanks to Braviery. They were about to step in and fight when Rei/Lucas’s last Pokémon fainted when all of a sudden, the sky above the Spear Pillar cracked open. Volo was ecstatic, thinking that it was Arceus and that finally, he has achieved his goals but it was not to be. The crack this time seemed different, like it was less of a wound to space and time and more of a deliberate passage. And four figures dropped down from it.
Descending from the heavens were Cynthia, Elesa, Iris and Emmet, and they all have come to give Volo hell.
Oh, nice! And take off with it my dude, I don't think they'll mind.
And I'm sure they'll say something if they do.
Also, Paradox Anon, please at least tell me who you are so I can credit you properly! I'm starting to feel bad that I can't tell people who made this. It feels like I'm taking credit for something that isn't mine over here. (I'm trying not too, but it's hard when I don't have someone else to point to.)
Like, it does have to be your actual username, just something I can give you credit with!

Pokemon Gold/Silver Beta Pokemon: The April 2020 Leak
Look, 2020 was a rough year. So maybe I shouldn’t be so surprised that the April 2020 Gold/Silver source code leak flew almost entirely under my radar. If you Google about it, you’re find it’s very rare for news outlets to cover it. This is probably because many folks are hesitant to cover leaks. Also, the US was warming up to a truly awful pandemic around that point, not to mention other civil unrest, so it’s no surprise some people were a tad distracted.
But the fact is, another leak turned up in April of last year, following a recent trend of huge Nintendo leaks. And this one was a doozy. I’ve only truly realized its full extent in the past few days. As such, I’d like to do a post that covers some of the new information. In particular, I’m focusing on beta pokemon that were cut or heavily reworked.
Now, back in 2018, the Spaceworld ‘97 Pokemon Gold/Silver Demo was leaked online. I made a post about some of my favorites. So, from this leak, we already knew of a while slew of beta pokemon. However, as it turns out, there were still more new faces to find-- and a lot of them! I list 45 new beta pokemon here, in fact!
In the April 2020 leak, several sprite sets were found as internal files, each at different phases of game production. The sprite sets were dated May 6, 1998, June 13, 1999, June 21, 1999, and September 17, 1999. The August 17, 1999 Spaceworld ‘99 Demo build was also found, so we have information on that as well.
Essentially, if you want to see this information at The Cutting Room Floor, then head to this page for the sprites discovered as internal backups/sprite banks. Head to this page for the Spaceworld ‘99 demo information page. And, if you need a refresher for the older leak, you can go to this page for the Spaceworld ‘97 demo build.
For this post, we will focus on the May 6, ‘98 set of sprites, which contain the vast majority of new faces. So, without further ado, onward to the pokemon!
(#300) Kokopelli Pokemon/Celebi
Tumblr media
(May 6, ‘98)       (Spaceworld ‘99 Demo)
This first pair of sprites looks very much like Kokopelli, a fertility deity of some Native American cultures. This deity can be seen in ancient Native American petroglyphs, as a humpbacked flute player with feathers on the head. Surprisingly, we find that Celebi in the Spaceworld ‘99 Demo seems to be an updated version of this design, making Celebi’s design origins much different than expected. However, its fertility diety inspiration is still somewhat apparant in the modern Celebi, as a creature that causes plant life to flourish.
(#301) Eel Pokemon
Tumblr media
While the sprite files did not reveal a name or other data, this eel’s sprites were numbered right beside the Gurotesu (Grotess) and Ikari (Anchorage) sprites, suggesting it once was the start of their evolution chain.
(#304) Fire Fox Pokemon
Tumblr media
This little fellow is a fox that seems to have a fiery tail. It’s possible this fire fox was inspired by kitsune (just as Vulpix/Ninetails were) and that it was later redesigned as Fennekin.
(#305 - 308) Snow Bunny Evolution Line
Tumblr media
These four pokemon seem to belong to the same evolutionary line. The second one seems to based on the Yuki Usagi, a ‘Snow Bunny.’ In Japan, these cute little critters are made in the snow (using leaves for the ears). They also sometimes make these Yuki Usagi as little marshmallow or mochi treats. So this pokemon line could be inspired by either of these. Considering the leaves and the snow, I would guess these would have been Grass/Ice.
(#309) Elephant Pokemon
Tumblr media
You might wonder if this chonky boy-- looking tough with horns on his head and back-- was an early version of Donphan, but Donphan and Phanpy were present in the Spaceworld ‘97 demo. Indeed, this elephant and Phanpy/Donphan both exist in the same set of sprites from May ‘98, so it was simply a case of two types of elephants. This pokemon also calls to mind a glimpse of a cut beta pokemon we saw from Generation 1 (from ‘Satoshi Tajiri: The Man Who Made Pokémon’):
Tumblr media
Same fierce eyes, at any rate! Alas, these both never saw the light of day. However, it’s possible this elephant was reworked into Piloswine, which is not in the May ‘98 collection but does appear in the June 13 ‘99 collection (although Swinub is absent). While Piloswine and Swinub are more akin to wild boars, there is also some relation to mammoths (an inspiration more heavily leaned on with Mammoswine in later games). Then again, there’s another pokemon you’ll see a little further down this list that might have inspired Piloswine instead.
(#311) Natu/Xatu Mid-Evolution
Tumblr media
What is clearly a mid-evolution (its file number sits between the two). Has a peacock-like tail. Honestly, I think this works really good as a mid-evolution, and I don’t know why it was cut. I want to name it “Watu.”
(#313) Drunk Kiwi Pokemon
Tumblr media
This one is just hilarious to look at. It appears to probably be a kiwi-bird? A very crazy-eyed, loopy one. I can see why this one was cut. The goofy, simple design kind of looks like a knockoff cartoon character for children.
(#314) Scorpion Pokemon
Tumblr media
A pretty badass-looking scorpion, although a rather basic design. I dig the funky head, though. It seems like it has a single, beady eye and is rather menacing. This pokemon may have been later reworked into Gligar, a pokemon that first appears after this sprite set, in the June 13 ‘99 group:
Tumblr media
Admittedly this is rather different from the Gligar we know, but it is an early design.
Or, who knows-- maybe this little fellah was later reworked into Skorupi. (If so, it’s a shame, as I don’t dig the weird accordian-like design of its limbs and its evolution.)
(#315) Quail Pokemon
Tumblr media
A pudgey little quail pokemon. Doesn’t seem related to the kiwi pokemon. It’s a very cute little thing, and has lots of potential to evolve into something interesting, but it seems they scrapped it pretty quickly.
(#316) Music Note Bird Pokemon
Tumblr media
Although these sprites are numbered right after the quail, and they are both birds, the designs are very different, so they seem unrelated. It seems the beta pokemon were simply blessed with a lot of birds. This little bird is in the shape of a clef, giving this bird a musical theme. It seems very likely it was later reworked into Chatot, a bird with a music-note shaped head and metronome tail.
(#319) Boar Pokemon
Tumblr media
A cute, grumpy little boar with antlers. Probably what eventually led to Piloswine found in the June 13 ‘99 group. A bit of a shame, in my mind, as I kind of prefer this design.
(#325) Spikey Dog Pokemon
Tumblr media
The curious thing is that this dog looks very similar to “Pudi,” a pokemon we saw in the Spaceworld ‘97 demo, which was intended to be a pre-evolution of Growlithe. But Pudi is also in this same collection of sprites!
Tumblr media
Perhaps they were toying with the idea of re-designing Pudi (and had already scrapped a bunch of baby pokemon) and just hadn’t bothered to remove the old Pudi yet. It’s hard to say. Ultimately, these both were scrapped, but at least we still have Subbull/Granbull.
(#331) Yūrei Ghost Pokemon
Tumblr media
This little ghost has two things that are common in Japanese folklore: the hitaikakushi (the white cloth headband it wears) and the two little balls of fire called hitodama. It is unknown why this ghost pokemon was scrapped, but perhaps they thought the little fellow wouldn’t translate well overseas?
(#344) Viking Ship Pokemon
Tumblr media
Look at this beauty! A pokemon based off some sort of Viking ship. I absolutely adore this one. It’s creative and charming. I hope to see it in the future.
(#349) Wooly Dog Pokemon
Tumblr media
This canine-like creature is fluffy as all out. Honestly I think it’s a tad odd, with how tangled and disheveled its fur looks. I can’t help but compare it to the early desings of the three Legendary Beasts, since they also are very canine-like:
Tumblr media
These three designs are present in this same May 6, 98′ sprite collection as the representations of Raikou, Entei, and Suicune. Were they possibly playing with a different design idea for the Legendary Beasts? Perhaps Suicune. The Wooly Dog is just such an imposing sprite, that I can’t help but wonder. All pure speculation, of course.
(#350) Rabbit Pokemon
Tumblr media
This rabbit has a rather intense look about him, and it makes me curious what the ideas were behind it. TCRF suggests it’s a possible pikachu clone.
(#351) Snake Pokemon
Tumblr media
This cute little worm or snake seems to be wearing a feather headdress, suggesting its design may also be Native American inspired, like the Natu line. On the other hand, this could be inspired by Quetzalcoatl, a feathered serpent deity in Aztec culture. I would have loved to see this little guy’s evolutions.
(#352) Scarecrow Bird
Tumblr media
A bird with a hat that kind of looks like a scarecrow. Honestly, it’s a super-cute idea.
(#353) Gargoyle Pokemon
Tumblr media
This crouching beastie sort of looks like a gargoyle with a long, sharp tail. I can’t quite tell if those bits on the side are little wings or just a part of its legs. It would be interesting to see this creature standing in a different position-- I feel like that would give us a better understanding of what it looks like. Interestingly, there are striking similarities with Aerodactyl:
Tumblr media
I wonder why they are so similar?
(#354 - 356) Manbō Evolution Family
Tumblr media
The first of these three fishies was someone we already met in the Spaceworld ‘97 demo-- it was named ‘Manbō 1.′ In the demo, it evolved into  Ikari (Anchorage) and then Gurotesu (Grotess). It seems it’s now been split off from those and given a new evolution family here. While I find that neat, and I quite like the expressions on these fish, they are admittedly a little bland.
(#360) Flying Squirrel(?) Pokemon
Tumblr media
TCRF guesses this is a flying squirrel, and it seems to be wearing a sheathed sword. Not sure about the headgear it’s sporting. Is that a ninja star?
(#364) Early Cyndaquil
Tumblr media
So, this May 6, ‘98 collection is really exciting. The original Gold/Silver fire starter line we saw in Spaceworld ‘97 (Honooguma’s line) is still present in this collection (as is the water-type ‘Cruz’ line and Chikorita’s line). So, what we have here seems to be an early Cyndaquil before they decided to turn it into a fire type and make it the fire starter! In fact, those spikes might even be icicles (like Alolan Sandslash), for all we know. If so, Cyndaquil’s typing pulled a 180.
(#377) Early Furret?
Tumblr media
Possibly an early Furret. Looks pretty awkward, not gonna lie; I’m glad it was probably refined into modern Furret, with more body definition between the head and tail.
(#378) Stork Pokemon
Tumblr media
It’s a stork, based on the myth of where babies come from. A cute idea, although its curly ‘hair’ looks a little funny to me.
(#380) Squid Pokemon
Tumblr media
A squid with drills for its mantle and arms. Since that’s kinda Beedrill’s thing, I’m glad they scrapped the idea. The backsprite lacks drills so it’s probably from a different design stage.
(#382 - 383) Early Burmy/Pineco
Tumblr media
Burmy/Wormadam/Mothim is based off the bagworm. Bagworms are grubs that use silk and lots of bits of leaves, bark and other objects to create a camouflaged cocoon. When they turn into adults, some species of female bagworms just look like their larval stage, while the males turn into winged moths. That is why Burmy/Wormadam/Mothim have their unique evolution situation. Clearly, these two beta pokemon are playing around with the bagworm idea. They probably went on to inspire both Pineco (another pokemon based on bagworms!) and the Burmy line in gen 4.
(#386) Koala Pokemon
Tumblr media
It’s so cool to see they were thinking about a koala pokemon this early. We would not finally get one until gen 7′s Komala.
(#387) Tanuki Pokemon
Tumblr media
A Tanuki that is carrying campfire kindling on his back, but the kindling has caught fire. Apparently based on the Kachi-Kachi Yama folktale, which is a surprisingly violent story, but I suppose folktales often are. Who knows why it was cut, but Sentret is the closest thing we have to a tanuki pokemon for now.
(#392) Megaphone(?) Bird Pokemon
Tumblr media
Yet another bird pokemon! There sure were a lot of beta birds. This one appears to have a megaphone-shaped beak. Or, possibly, its head is shaped like a gas mask (the strange eyes seem  to support this idea). Honestly I really dig the look of this one.
(#397) Frog Pokemon
Tumblr media
It’s tough to tell but it has a small horn on its head. It has a long tongue and is probably shouting “ribbithhhhhh!” It’s cute, but a little plain.
(#400) Tiny Hippo Pokemon
Tumblr media
Look at this little weirdo. I think it’s a tiny hippo? With a mohawk and a big grin and wild eyes. It doesn’t really seem to have a head, its mouth/eyes/ears are just stuck directly to a body. Looks pretty awkward, probably needed some polish. No idea what they were going for with it, but it’s interesting.
(#401) Skeleton Pokemon
Tumblr media
A very spooky, bipedal, living skeleton beast. It has a long snout and sharp teeth, almost like a crocodile or a dinosaur-like creature. Its head and shoulders have bony spikes and the front of its snout has markings that seem to be a nasal cavity. Very detailed. It also reminds me of Missingno, as some Missingno used the fossil skeletons as their front sprites. I would have loved to have this pokemon, and it’s a real shame they didn’t use it.
Tumblr media
(#402) Rodent Pokemon
A mouse or bunny with gigantic, spotted ears and no arms. Those are some serious ears; it almost looks like it could fly with them.
Tumblr media
(#403) Fly Pokemon
A bug-type!! It has a huge, creepy face, curly antenna and wings strangely really close to its head. I love it?? But it’s a bug, so of course I do.
Tumblr media
(#404) Plant Pokemon
The Snow Bunny was likely part grass-type, but other than that, this is our first grass beta! It has one eye, a spikey head, and almost foot-like roots. I love how grumpy it looks. There’s a possibility it was a pre-evolution for Sunflora, before they had created the idea of Sunkern (which is not present in this collection).
Tumblr media
(#405) Ant Pokemon
Another bug!! This one looks a lot like a winged ant. (Those do exist-- usually a temporary thing for mating flights) It’s possibly related to the fly pokemon above, sporting very similar wings. However, it doesn’t really seem like an evolution.
Tumblr media
(#406) Dinosaur Pokemon
A little dinosaur-like pokemon, looking up at you. It’s unclear if that’s a tough, bony skull, or if it’s maybe a hat. The clubbed tail makes me wonder if it’s related to #415 below, but it’s probably unlikely. However, it is pretty likely that this later became Cranidos.
Tumblr media
(#407) Early Cherrim
This clearly was a design that was picked up later, in gen 4, to create Cherubi/Cherrim’s sunshine form. I am glad the design was improved, because the lips on this one scare me.
Tumblr media
(#412) Early Dunsparce
Dunsparce looking quite different. No wings, no drill tail, with a much more typical snake-like face.
(#415) Dinosaur Pokemon
Tumblr media
It looks like an aquatic version of an Ankylosaurus or something similar. It’s possible it’s related to the Viking Ship pokemon (as a pre-evo), but there’s no way to know. I quite like it, though.
(#416) Flying Fish Pokemon
Tumblr media
This magnificent beast, this miracle of creation, is surely my favorite beta pokemon of all time. Revel in its glory. You may not like it, but this is the ideal pokemon body. What a perfect way to round off our collection of betas.

Tai: Well, let me help you up at least! And thanks again for helping me train this new form... hah... evolution’s a hell of an experience...!
King: I... hah, can imagine!
[What would you say Tai? If you saw your brother like this?
Would you blame me...?
Just like your mother did?]
Tai: But, I don’t think that’s why you’re here right?
King: ... Well, no...
Tai: Ok, first, let me help you up!
[I need to stop Yoshi... that family’s blood is already on my hands.. no more... not again... Yes, I want answers, but not at the cost of Yoshi’s life-or theirs if I can avoid it... But... would I just as quickly abandon my goal? The world’s situation... even if they’re not exclusively responsible, they all caused things to get worse directly or not...
Yoshi’s joined them too, to some degree... many-if not all-of my allies have joined them... Can I really? Truly? Let them go knowing this?
...
OK... one thing at a time... breathe... I need to stop him, Celebi was able to do that, right? How? How do they quell Shadow Pokemon?? Can I replicate it? Is that possible??

King: If I understood as much as I do now, maybe I could’ve saved him... I doubt your so-called “Friend” Reid would be able to deal with the strength your brother would’ve had with my blessing-
Yoshi: S-shut up...! Aagh... you... you ruined our... lives-
King: You think that black Pikachu had a life before you? You likely heard of his origins, yes? It is vile. Disgusting. And these Shadow Pokemon you associate with are no better. Do you think they’re all innocent? Do you think that child hiding in the cave wouldn’t have become a threat to all of us if we allowed the Trio to act with impunity? If we didn’t force them into hiding? Imagine, if your brother was among the Knights instead of you... this would’ve never come to pass-
Yoshi: Y-You don’t... know that...!!
King: I think I do-
Yoshi: Everything... EVERYTHING that’s happened to us... Cherry... Goldenrod... that Rteddy thing... IT’S ALL ON YOU...!!! Aagh...
King: ... Maybe that’s true, but I won’t stop... [I’ve gotten off topic..] Not until I find the Trio, and I know two of them are-
Yoshi: F-fuck off..!
King: ... If only I made your brother my Proxy...
Yoshi: A-aagh!!
King: [I’ll just... knock him out, I’ll find them myself...] But... It’s too late now... I’ll make sure to tell your mother: “I’m sorry”-
Carla: KING!
King: ...? Oh- [I can’t... believe it... hah...] There you are.

Entei: ... I won’t intervene yet... Lugia. You better complete whatever plan you’ve got, because... unfortunately... this is... interesting...
[Entei refuses to act!]
[King has grown... aware of it or not...!]
[Now... in the present...]

Mononokeland is basically Pokemon Go
Just a dump with Pokemon Go and Mononokeland from Obey Me.
Everyone probably knows this, just thought I’d draw comparisons. *Note. I’m only on chapter 35 in the main story. So I don’t know if there’s any more chats with Leviathan on the game other than the daily chat. If anyone wants to add anything, let me know! Any who, enjoy my rambles. \o/
I find it amusing that a game like this would make Leviathan get out of his room, at least he gets his daily exercise and fresh air lol. I know because I ended up doing that too when I got into Pokemon Go.
Not to mention he plays it with MC, so I like to headcanon that Levi gets to show MC around different parts of the Devildom. They get to spend time together, play the game together and MC gets to see different landmarks(Pokemon Go stops that players can spin to receive items).
And who knows, maybe MC finds a new spot for just them and Levi to hang out, just the two of them.
If MC wants to invite the Purgatory Squad to play with, I'm sure Leviathan wouldn't mind the extra help should they team up for a group raid.
Since Levi got Luke into the game, and Luke got Simeon and Solomon into the game too, I think Levi’s got himself a raiding team when there’s a rare spirit to catch. I’d like to think he’d be thrilled with Solomon and especially Simeon playing the game with him as well. I’m sure he’d be happy with Luke as well since he got him into the game.
Simeon might take a while to play the game, old man with the new tech and all. So should they get into the rare raids, they’d have to carry Simeon to win. Levi wouldn’t complain though, the Christopher Peugeot is playing one of his favorite games after all!
I also like to think Diavolo likes this game due to the various geographical locations in the game that the demons and MC and Purgatory Squad can visit and explore. Who knows? Maybe they’ll find some real gems in areas they wouldn’t expect? Also, I think he’d find it interesting/amusing on what places/icons get to be nominated and be put in the game. Some hole in the wall places that they’d never find? Fun in exploration. :)
Going to put a ‘keep reading’ for the info dump/comparisons here and some large images. 🙃
Going outside to catch spirits? Pokemon? Same concept.

Also, in some Pokemon Go events, they task you to add new friends and having friends is quite beneficial in the game. Some event tasks will ask for you to send gifts to friends and trading Pokemon in order to proceed with the event.

Using candies to evolve spirits? Pokemon Go’s got that too.
Tumblr media
So MCWooloo would need 50 candies to evolve.

Monodex = Pokedex. In Pokemon, trading pokemon with friends can help fill up the Pokedex. A goal for many completionists is to have complete Pokedexes for all the Pokemon from all the different regions.

My best interpretation of the special bases from these chats, the special bases in Monokeland are equal to the gyms in Pokemon Go. Gyms are where the different teams(Valor, Instinct, and Mystic) can leave one Pokemon in the gym to defend it as long as they can. The longer the Pokemon stays in the gym, the more Pokecoins(in game currency) they earn(at the moment the cap earned per day is 50 coins). Different teams can battle opposing teams who claimed the gym and claim it as their own. Gyms also host raid battles where more stronger Pokemon can be caught. Raids are based on 1 star for easy, 3 star for medium(may take more than one player to beat it), and 5 star for the legendary Pokemon(may take at least 5-8 people to take it down depending on the Pokemon.)

Apologies for the lack of rare shinies I have in my Pokemon Go game. 🙃 But shiny pokemon may appear randomly in the game(wild encounters- especially on community days, hatching from eggs, and even raid pokemon may be shiny.)
Tumblr media
*Edited here. Forgot I did have a legendary shiny Pokemon on my account.* 😳 Regular color Celebi on the left and the Shiny form on the right.
