You can't lose someone you never had - Part 7
Summary: time for some news and Phoenix has difficulties figuring out what you are.
Tumblr media
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6 - Part 8, Part 9, Part 10, Final Part
“We just got your results back from your last tests.”, the three of you are sitting down in the doctor’s office and you can’t help but feel nervous. Maverick had told you that the first time the cancer came it had been rough and that it had disappeared for a bit before coming back now. You could see that the man was scared, and you felt the same way as you wait for the doctor to tell you what is happening.
“We managed to get the cancer removed when we operated two weeks ago, we still need to do some check-ups every month but as of now you are cancer free Tom.”, the three of us let out a sigh of relief and you nearly go and hug the doctor. Maverick has a few tears that slip out and your father has a bright smile.
You squeeze his hand, and he looks back at you with a tender smile. Maverick asks further questions, and the doctor answers them before making note of the next appointment. When the three of you get out you don’t know what to do, it’s nearly evening, and you can see that the two of them want to be alone to celebrate.
“So, you two should go home and celebrate, it’s big news.”, you say with a smile and Maverick looks at you with an unimpressed expression while Ice rolls his eyes.
“Please, I see him every day, let’s go to the Hard Deck and celebrate there.”, your father says before starting to walk away ignoring Maverick’s indignant face.
“How dare you?! It’s an honor to see me every day.”, you hear Ice laugh, and you can’t help but join as you see Maverick huff and pout like a toddler, following him to the car.
The Hard Deck is filled with people as you arrive and before you can get far you hear a loud voice through the noise.
“If it isn’t my second favorite Kazansky?!”, you see Slider come through and your father rolls his eyes, but a smile can be seen as his old RIO drags him into a hug.
“And my favorite one, at last.”, he says dramatically, and you laugh as he takes you into his arms.
You enjoy the embrace, not having seen your godfather in a while and Slider squeezes you closer as you hug him harder.
“Missed you little Kazansky”, he whispers, and you laugh at the familiar nickname.
“Missed you too Uncle Slider.”, you whisper back, and he hugs you for a few seconds more before letting go.
“Short stack, still here I see.”, Maverick glares at Slider and you try to muffle your laughter at the nickname.
Wolf, Hollywood, and Merlin join you and the next few minutes are filled with hugs and making fun of Maverick’s height.
“The Dagger Squad is here, let’s say hi.”, Maverick says with a bright smile, and you can’t help the uneasy feeling that comes up as you get near them, it has been a long time.
“Would you look at that, Thunder is back.”, Hangman says, his voice loud just like it always was.
“Hangman still haven’t changed I see.”, the pilot looks at you with a smirk and sighs.
“Why would I change when I’m already perfect.”, he says cockily, and you roll your eyes at his words. Bob arrives with drinks and sees you there and a smile appears.
“Thunder didn’t know you would be here.”, he says brightly and brings you into a hug and you enjoy the familiarity.
“Didn’t know it either, surprise for the both of us.”, you say into the hug and Bob chuckles before letting you go, and you see Phoenix behind him.
She gives you a smile and you smile back, not knowing if you should say hi to her or just follow Bob to the small table littered around the Hard Deck. Phoenix makes the choice and joins Bob and you at a table, while the rest starts talking about a certain maneuver.
“Thunder how are you?”, she says with a smile, and you smile back, thanking Bob as he gives you a beer.
“I’m doing well, how are you doing?”
“Good, better now.”, you don’t know what to say at her words, a hopeful smile is there, and you feel the butterflies in your stomach even after all those years.
“Well, thank you for saying I was not good enough company.”, Bob says jokingly but the joke falls flat, you smile at him thankful, and he smiles awkwardly.
“Bobby! Come here!”, you hear Hangman yell and Bob rolls his eyes, but a fond smile appears as he excuses himself and leaves towards the blond pilot who quickly takes hum under his arm, dragging him in the conversation.
“I’m sorry if I overstepped, I just -”, Phoenix rambles on and you feel surprised, she has always been a confident woman who never doubted what she did, it made her one of the best pilots.
“Phoenix, don’t worry, really. It just took me off guard.”, you put your hand on her arm to get her attention and she looks surprised at the touch.
“Guess it has been a long time since I’ve tried to -”, she doesn’t know what to say and your gaze softens, she looks scared to say the wrong thing, so far from the Phoenix you knew at the start of your relationship.
“Nat is everything alright?”, you whisper softly, and she sighs before closing her eyes.
“I just, I don’t know how to be with each other. We were never really friends, we were flirting with each other, dated and then we – we broke up and had no contact anymore.”, you smile softly, you understood what she meant, and you were lost too but you would have to figure it out.
“Then we’ll figure it out bit by bit and day by day. We didn’t know how to be with each other at the start of our relationship and it worked, so why would it be any different?”, you ask, and Phoenix seems to think, and a sad smile appears as you look at her sweetly.
“Your right.”, she says, and you smile at her before joining the others while they argue about something. You don’t see the sadness in her eyes as she watches you leave the table, and she whispers under her breath.
“Because I still love you.”, the words taking her over, not being able to shake up the feeling of love as she looks at you and the want to be with you again. But she’ll take what she can get even if she regrets every single moment the day, she let you go.
“Stop it.”, you say while laughing and Phoenix can’t stop laughing either as she looks at you with loving eyes.
“I’m telling you he was flirting with her and then she looked at him up and down before saying that she was married to Cyclone.”, she enjoys hearing your bright laughter as she retells the story of Hangman trying to flirt with a woman that was apparently Cyclone’s wife.
“I would’ve paid to see his face.”, she whispers out of breath a bright smile on her face.
“Next time I’ll film it.”
“You better.”, Phoenix can’t help but take a moment to look at her, in her bed with only the sheets covering them and she takes a moment to take it in.
“You’re beautiful.”, a blush appears on her cheeks and Phoenix enjoys it before kissing her tenderly, enjoying lingering kisses.
They spent the morning in bed, talking and laughing while time goes by, but they have nothing to do for the rest of the day but staying in bed all day.
If you thought I would kill Ice you were wrong, I love him far too much! However I'm not sure if Phoenix and Thunder should end up together or not...

Hi dear! Hope you're doing well. To start off, i completely understand if you choose not to answer this due to all the backlash because of what happened on the nov 17th show here in rio and everything that has been happening since. I'm just so disappointed, and i felt like turning to you because your takes on spirituality and divination have given me hope before, and who knows, maybe they will again this time. Not only that, but you gave a degree in PR so i guess you're one of the few people on this earth who can see both sides of the situation clearly.
How can it be possible for a person who has such an incredible and positive energy to be capable of such despicable actions? Can a person who puts their own image and fortune before basic solidarity and compassion in a tragedy of this scale really be a good person? Where do we draw the line? The human experience is incredibly nuanced. We all make mistakes even when we are trying to do the right thing. Being wrong on more than one occasion does not by any means make us horrible people. However, some things are just plain inhumane and dishonest. Is there even such a thing as a good person, good aura, or energy if even those who we consider to be good are more than capable of choosing to be horrible when it comes to saving their own ass and securing their place on top? Why do we even bother?
I'm so incredibly disappointed and devastated and may be overreacting. I don't even know anymore. Sorry for the rant.
Hi love,
So i'm choosing to answer this question because there is some large aspects of legal and operational problems being missed here.
I'm going to start with the energy I feel when I approach the situation on a divination level and thats pure rage and grief. There is a large sense of no control, devastation and pain. I think Taylor is suffering a larger heart break here than people are realizing.
Now let's pivot to legal issues.
Taylor is looking at not just a Brazilian law suit against her, but an international court one. To say Taylor has an impeccable legal team and you can see that in her public statements. You have to be careful, wildly careful about public statements not being an admission of guilt. Is Taylor guilty? Was it her policy not to allow water? Was she encouraging unsafe practices? Did her direct encouragement cause the death of a fan? These are all questions her team are trying to figure out and what we should be doing.
On a legal scale, there is not the same evidence as Travis Scott being liable for the death of fans.
On an operational scale, should water have even been on Taylor Swift's radar? As the lead performer for a 3 1/2 hour show, should she be responsible for making every single decision regarding food, water, safety, health, timing, direction, music, choreography, technology, fireworks, barriers, dancers, singers, band, crew, etc.? At what point does her responsibility, especially the day of a show, end?
Such large scale operations require delegation. You have to trust your team and pass the responsibilities for things you cannot control off to a team you truly respect and trust. She cannot be in charge of everything, no one can and no one should. From my understanding on a divination level, Taylor wasn't even aware the water would not be provided until the day of. The energy surrounding it was pure rage and horror, and a quick race to try to find any solutions. Deep concern. It's actually quite hard for me to personally feel, I really don't like how it's effecting me.
You ask, "How can it be possible for a person who has such an incredible and positive energy to be capable of such despicable actions? Can a person who puts their own image and fortune before basic solidarity and compassion in a tragedy of this scale really be a good person?"
Perhaps I am out of the loop, all of the information I've gathered is failing to tell me what was her despicable action. What was her despicable action? What was her crime? Other than not reaching out to the family personally? That's a massive legal problem and could easily be seen as an admission of guilt or even harassment. From my understanding, and from dribbling i've heard from some PR connections, was that it was Taylor who rescheduled the next show and insisted on water being provided. That might be wrong, but it's what I've heard.
I'm willing to say I might not have all the information, so can someone fill in what the crimes are?

Heloooo
Sorry for sending asks everytime you drop a banger art but your last post made me wonder
What is Jey's relationship with the main three?? Of course we all know how he's not totally so gay for astral 🤭 but what about Yuma, Shark and Kite??
(( PLEASE never apologize it makes me so happy that you’ve sent me asks about him 🥺🩵✨ That’s a rare, rare treasure in this fandom afsgdhj 🩵✨🩵 I appreciate it so much you have no idea ))
⟢∿✧ Yuma
Wholesome vibes! Gets to a quick comfortability where they are affectionate and close. Of course Jey is a teaser, and poor Yuma falls for it every time with the perfect overdramatic reactions that just feeds Jey to do it even more.  Jey quickly gets into a role of a good friend, even an older brother type of figure, and Yuma is all too a natural with acting the part of ‘little brother’ role. Jey also gets quite protective of the boy — but that is also more generally typical. He’s a very protective type. Yuma is given the nickname “sunshine”, and from hence forth, in Jey’s mind and vocabulary, that is his real and only name agshj. Yuma really pretends to be pouty about it, but it’s hard to keep the fake frown when he’s being hoisted up and spun around in some affectionate roughhousing. They have their struggles of course, they both chronically self sacrifice and then turn around and yell at the other for doing it. There's also tension with Jey being a natural born leader and often can get or seem commanding due to overprotectiveness, treating Yuma like a kid, which shdgfhj Yuma doesn't like so much lmao.  And then Yuma, bless him, but his immaturity and stubbornness gets them into a lot of senseless fights and hot water. But they love each other, and it’s obvious ♡ Little cuties.
⟢∿✧ Shark
So with Shark, it's not tension, more just regular animosity - that's quite one-sided in the grand scheme of things fdghfj. He of course started out hostile to Jey, and in reply, Jey would just be like "lmao” and quip back more good-natured. Jey's older and wiser and a good leader, and I think Shark feels a bit threatened. He can act as emo as he likes, but reality is; he's still just a silly little awkward middle schooler pretending to be a scary 'cool guy' wannabe. Jey represents a version of elements he wants to be, and Jey does it without guises of “tough guy” exteriors. Or.. being a dick lol. There would definitely be times where Jey would try and initiate a talk with Shark “man-to-man” when the boy’s behavior gets particularly sour or is being too much of an asshole. Which would be met with varying responses of “Fuck Off” and “Fuck You”. But it often would succeed to Shark to back off or right himself. Which gets Jey brownie points from both Rio, who lives to see Shark taken down some pegs nsbvdbdn There are times when Shark actually reeeally does get on Jey’s nerves or piss him off (who wouldn’t, have you met the kid lmao) but typically does okay about not getting too explosive with him. (at least in S1~ In s2, though.. hehehehe) They are primarily Yuma’s friends who are kind of forced to hang sometimes, for sure, but again Shark’s ‘’animosity’’ to Jey isn’t to be taken seriously. Not friends explicitly, but they’re fine. Lol
⟢∿✧ Kite
Okay so you know how I said Shark’s deal with Jey was mainly one-sided because of course it is since Shark is just a dumb pre-teen who doesn’t know who he is and is faking it till he makes it? Well, Kite has a similar issue, except for the itty bitty fact that - Kite is a grown ass man? The way Jey sees Kite, and what he does, and how he operates, as almost a weird Batman syndrome? It’s hard for Jey not to look at Kite and go “why tf are you acting with the same amount of immaturity as these middle schools”. Not even being a particularly good role model or trying to look out for the kids very well...Things that Jey himself puts a lot of effort and consideration into, especially around the little group. And obviously Kite is Kite, so he isn’t going to give Jey or his opinions the time of day. So they’re at a bit of a longstanding impasse. Figure it’s best if they just mutually only talk when necessary. I will say; Jey does respect and have agreements with Kite’s in regards to the Hart situation. He clearly loves his brother, and is sweet and good to him. It hits closer to home especially because Jey is also the type who has a tendency to hit a “burn-the-world-down” mode when someone he loves is in danger, so that flaw is something mirrored in each other them. That’s pretty much it, though. If Jey and Shark hardly consider one another friends, then these two are definitely not lolol

Want to know/would love to know your thoughts on CH acting in season 4.
I absolutely understood the closed off/detached vibe she had in season 3 after season 2 disaster ending, but in season 4, as Rio started to evidently warm up to her and arguably screwed her over significantly less than she him (aware he still pulled some stuff on her but in comparison to a live hit and arrest etc) I understood it less.
CH regularly played beth as stone cold to Rio. At times when he wasn’t doing all that much bad to her. Colder than I ever remember seeing in s1/2, & all things considered I still think Rio had much reason to do so than her? & as Rio got warmer as season went on, Beth got even colder somehow??? I think. I’m surprised they didn’t script, or rather that CH didn’t decide to play, one of the Later scenes with Rio as softer, to hint at ending??? It’s a bit jarring for me as it stands, & I can rationalize it narratively but it’s CH very conscious faces and expression that I can never get past. Even that last bench scene she is almost going above and beyond to give zero emotion. I never once thought same thing about MM. I always got such a depth of emotions from him.
Mmm, I agree that Christina played Beth as wearing a mask, but that mask is also pivotal to her character in a way that’s unnecessary for Rio, so to compare Rio wearing his heart on his sleeve to Beth concealing hers feels pretty fundamentally at odds with who these characters are. I also feel like we saw underneath that mask numerous times throughout the season, but that those moments were few and far between because, as you said in your ask, there was a narrative purpose to her wearing that mask.
Even though they were on better terms and Rio ‘wasn’t doing that much bad stuff to her’ (and actually, I contest that statement a bit, haha), none of their interactions were happening in a vacuum. This season alone, he’d kidnapped her sister, threatened her family, strongarmed back into her new business, sent her on a job only to punish her for his own miscommunication (the Canada job), blackmailed her so that he could use her bank account as a Smurf account, refused to help her with her husband’s arrest and set her up as the face of a part of his business so that he could handcuff her to his operation and make her an identifiable face for people who might one day testify against them.
Sure, Rio was ‘softer’ at various points, but he was also aggressively manipulative, threatening and sometimes outright cruel. That’s not to say that Beth didn’t give it back, she did, but Beth’s also a guarded character who canonically disassociates in a way that Rio’s not and does not.
I thought Christina captured that really well – her expressions while setting up Rio to take out Fitzpatrick in 4.04 and during Rio’s arrest in 4.08, I feel, are some of the most powerful moments of acting in the series. The way Christina is able to make the light in her eyes go out is really affecting to me, and I think showed the disassociation Beth felt in those moments as she tried to process what she’d just done, and the way what she’d done had impacted her. It really got me.
It wasn’t just in moments of disassociation though that I think she revealed Beth’s feelings for and about Rio – her warmth and excitement with him before he shut her down at the bar in 4.01 felt real to me, as was her wide-eyed nervous crush energy at the bar with him in 4.07, as was her hurt at him kidnapping Annie in 4.12 (fascinatingly to me with that, Beth was upset, not angry), as was her absolute exhaustion, both physical and emotional with him in the two scenes in her kitchen in 4.14 and 4.15.
Rio is exhausting, but Beth’s never tired of him, and I think that’s something Christina captures really beautifully, especially as it’s such a different type of exhaustion to the one Beth feels and experiences with Dean. Compare for instance Beth and Rio’s interaction in 4.15 with her scene with Dean in 4.16. Her exhaustion with Dean always comes down to Beth’s surrender, whereas her exhaustion with Rio is always something that circles back to building her up and making her want to fight again (the end of 2.02 being a great example, but again, 4.14 and 4.15 both ended on that note too).
On top of all of that, Beth was under an unconscionable amount of pressure the entire season while Rio was shown drinking, playing pool, basketball and getting boba tea with his brousin. He got his quiet moments to process his emotions while Beth had no time to really figure out hers at all. She was constantly having to react to new pressures, strains, information, jobs, conflicts, and in many cases, Rio only added to that (if he wasn’t the root cause). Even when they hit their stride again at the end of s4, Rio still wasn’t showing up for meetings, and his boy shot her in her kitchen.
My point is, Beth knows what being emotionally vulnerable with Rio gets her – it gets her fired / dumped (1.09, 2.11) her husband shot (1.10), a gun in her hand (2.02), shut down (3.06, 3.11, 4.01), or abandoned (1.08, 2.07, 2.09, 2.12, 4.03, 4.12). Keeping her mask on in front of him is her way of not only maintaining control, but protecting herself, and it’s why we get scenes of the impact and vulnerability away from him, like her breakdown over Lucy in 3.06 or her tragic daydreams about letting Rio down in 4.06. It’s a hard line to walk as an actor, but I think Christina does it well, especially because she always feels present in these scenes with Rio even if she does seem hard or cold, which is a stark difference to the way she is in scenes with Dean or Fitzpatrick where Beth as a character has a different emotional investment. Yes, there’s an edge to her performance in her scenes with Rio, but it’s an edge that’s been built because of the nature of Beth and Rio’s relationship, and honestly, I think Manny’s a good performer, and he’s certainly emotive, but I think there’s a lot more nuance and complexity in what Christina’s doing than what he is.

What do you think Rio knew or thought about the hitman? I feel like he had to have realized it wasn't secret service since they wouldn't have been attempting to kill him that way. It always felt weird to me that he never pressed her for more information on what all that was. I get the feeling he was proud of her for making the decision to finally kill someone in that way and clean up but I feel like it was left so open ended for Rio.Would he really not want to know more about what she was up to?
IMO he absolutely figured it out, but didn't feel the need to press for more information because it was fairly self-explanatory from his end. He understood she had hired a hitman, but that she'd also called it off, and that the reason for that was because she'd decided it was better for her self-interest to work with the Secret Service to turn him in.
That's why he didn't show up to the next drop and why he searched for the wire and why he set her up as the Banker and invited her to the barbeque and let his guard just far enough down to let her know he was still attracted to her.
I think he'd worked out that she'd wanted him dead because he'd wanted her dead after the shooting, but he also realized she'd changed her mind, and that it meant something, even if she was still trying to make moves against him. He was able to see that there was some level of softening in her decision to give up on killing him, and he figured he could finagle things so that she gave up on turning him in, too. He pulled her closer—both by bringing her further into his operation, just like he did by becoming partners with her in 2.04, and by letting her really see him, just like he did by introducing her to Marcus in 2.01.
I agree with you that there was an element of pride for him. I think he realized he was still underestimating her, and that she still had the capacity to surprise him, and that she was still a worthy adversary—something I really do think he has enjoyed in their dynamic, even if he did shift over the course of season 4 to wanting a different one once Nick tried to come in and interfere.
To me, there's not a lot of information that Fitzpatrick could really have given him that he couldn't figure out himself—and while I think Rio may have considered confronting Beth more directly, I also think he was trying to get her to break and switch sides and choose him without that, which is why he played along through 4.07 until the last possible second when he finally dropped the game and actually laid it all bare.

Please analyze that bar scene INCLUDING that tiny Rio smile. Thank you for all your posts about the show!! I love reading them. <3
First off, thank you so much!
Alright, so I wanted to wait until I got to rewatch the scene before answering this.
Rio stars off as closed off and exhausted - the sigh and the kind of hunched posture. He doesn’t really look at her until he says “Minute in the sack, never take it back, huh?” - like he’s looking for her reaction (also I feel a low-key jab at Dean because that seems to be a running thread this season). It reminds me a lot of when he told her she was just work and looked at her to see how deeply it hit her when he’d avoided looking at her at all until then.
When Beth tells him that they want him for a moment he just kind of stares off, because people being after him isn’t really a novelty, as we’ve seen in season 1 when he shuts down once the feds get too close.
He looks at her directly when he asks if they’re taking care of her, probably looking to judge her reaction because Beth isn’t exactly stellar when lying to Rio and catching her expression could tell him more about what’s going on than her words.
Then we have that brief moment of commiseration over “Quite a situation we got.” which I loved! There’s this sort of commonality between them, that they’re acknowledging that they are constantly at odds and rarely if ever on the same page.
Tumblr media
We finally see Rio crack when he asks Beth what she’s going to do about cutting a deal because his life hinges on what she says. And he avoids looking at her, like he suddenly doesn’t want to know. Because Rio has put a lot of ammunition in Beth’s hands - enough to get the secret service interested in her as an asset in bringing him down. And she’s notoriously a survivalist, so it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility for her to take the deal. The last time she was backed into a corner, she ended up shooting him and I think Rio remembers that.
And then my favorite part: “If I have to make one more cookie, I will die.”
Tumblr media
SO.
I absolutely love that Beth leans into the image Rio has of her. It affirms what he believes - that she can’t stand being a housewife. And she starts from the very beginning of the scene, telling him how much she hated carpool and making cookies and being the class parent. The entire scene she doubles down on just how much she can’t stand the life she had before she met him.
And then she drops that bombshell on him, basically saying if she cuts a deal with SS and is placed back into that box, she’s going to die. Rio turns to look at her, and then smiles like he’s known all along that she was meant for this life - his life. Beth lets him think that he’s right and actively feeds into it.
She is constantly saying she’s a mother and that she wants to be normal, repeating it obsessively, it seems (twice in this episode!) - so when she comes out and baldly admits that she can’t stand it, I think it surprises him that she’s finally owning her truth.
And she studies him when she hands him the envelope when she consciously avoided looking at him for almost the entire scene, trying to figure out if he was buying her story.
When Rio asks if she’s sure and she says it’s the only way to make it all go away - she’s not exactly telling the truth here, but she isn’t lying! With Fitzpatrick dead, Rio remains alive, which lets Beth cut a deal. So it does all go away - for her.
I think Rio smiles at that moment for a lot of reasons. One, it looks like she’s protecting the both of them. Get rid of the fed, they’re free to operate as they were. And two: this is the complete opposite of how things with Turner went. It’s a rotten egg, and Beth is finally taking care of it the way he’s been telling her since season 1. I mean, she’s isn’t directly getting her hands dirty, but she is okay with someone being killed to protect her/their interests when she hasn’t been in the past and has actively argued with him about it.
So again, I think Rio is sort of seduced in a way by believing Beth was becoming what he always saw in her. Between her admitting how much she hated her life until crime, to being more or less okay with killing someone if it means protecting them, Rio was falling hook, line, and sinker for whatever Beth was selling him because she was selling him his own idealized idea of her. I love when she takes preconceived ideas that people have of her and plays into it and sort of uses that against them.
And then we end with Rio touching her arm, which is exactly how he touched her in 1.08 when he explained the shutdown to her, and it had a lot of the same feel to it - like sort of telling her to hold tight for a bit.
But I think Rio pretty swiftly figured out that she wasn’t telling the truth when he crept up on Fitzpatrick (as much as the SS wants Rio, he’s much more valuable alive so it would make no sense for them to try and kill him - and I think Rio knows that), so I’m extremely interested in how he’s going to use that against her in the future.

fox e. jones — ❝  Nobody move, there's blood on the floor and I can't find my heart ❞
full name: fox everett jones
city of birth: manhattan, new york.
date of birth: august 25.
zodiac sign: virgo
parents: fred and daphne jones
siblings: january jones
sexuality: bisexual
nicknames: n/a
face claim: manu rios ( voice: ryan philippe )
personality.
+, natural-born leader, calculating, collected -, cruel, arrogant, self-loathing
the bio below touches on many triggering topics. reader discretion is advised. *
background information.
fox jones is the perfect mix of foolish daydreams starring bad boys with twisted smiles and wicked laughs and old-style shotguns and nectar-burnt lungs. on the outside he’s presents the perfect image. one that the jones could be proud of. a golden son that daphne could dote on and a son to take the mantle of mystery inc from freddy as time had passed. To the outside world Fox is perfect but it’s far from the truth. Below the surface there’s a hurt person. someone who chooses to inflict pain on others to silence his own.
fox was born into the world of the underground crime scene. his father was a powerful mob boss in the streets of new york by night and a powerful lawyer by day. the graves his father had filled were unmatched. from young age fox was taught that people were disposable. they were just pawns to further yourself in the game of life. he was taught that he was disposable. his parents weren’t the kindest. his mother was a socialite by day, rubbing elbows with the high class women of society to get into their good graces ( and resources ) and at night she was just as awful and heartless as his father, pushing her kids past their limits and degrading them when failure struck. and the devil himself? well he had kids just to have a legacy. someone to do his biddings and maybe take over once he finally kicked the bucket. fox was just another one of his little pawns. if he didn’t live up to the expectation that were placed upon him there were plenty of others who could replace him. so fox worked hard to be the best, better than his brother and sisters. he refused to be thrown to the wayside. he was going to prove himself useless to his father one way or another.
in a way, fox believed if he was the best then his parents would pay attention to him. maybe they’d even love him. he’d be worth loving if he held value.
he trained hard in martial arts & firearms. although, a knife was much more desirable to fox. he earned himself the name ‘lucky’ because whenever he was around deals ended in his father’s favor. which meant fox was kept around and closer. his siblings soon picked up on how their parents operated life as a business and progressed. they became just as deadly as fox. ruthless and terrifying.
but fox? fox was pretty. a pretty bird that no one could ever be scared of. even with how deadly he was people would laugh whenever he entered the room of negotiations or interrogations. how could such an angelic face ever strike fear? he couldn’t -  not without a snide remark or a pass. so fox was put to use elsewhere. his skills and body were used in a way fox never imagined they would be but he did for the business. to be taken seriously and to be a good son in his father’s deck. i mean, his family had already taken advantage of him. why not others?
so he allowed himself to be used. if it meant it’d further his family’s success. his nickname still came through for his family time and time again every deal closing perfectly, and while the success was good it wasn’t enough for fox. he was tired of sitting being pretty with grabby hand old men who complained about their loveless marriages to their wives. he wanted to be part of it - not on the sidelines.
he had overheard his father talking about a big deal that was going to take place in two days time. it was very much so a make it or break it moment for foxes family. it was also the perfect chance to show he was useful. if his plan went south and the deal failed it would end miserably but if it succeeded? Fox could only imagine the glory. he was able to pull a few strings to get himself into the door before his father. of course when fox stepped in he wasn’t taken seriously. why would they send in someone like him? Fox wasn’t as stupid as they dubbed him to be. he came to a drug deal with the goods to pay. the others decided to pull the tough gangster routine on him. insults were thrown and before they could pull the wool over fox’s eyes he had one upped them. they were all dead within seconds. underestimating fox was their biggest mistake. he was just about to finish off the big boss when a different gun shot off and killed the man before him. fox didn’t need to turn around to know it was his father holding the gun. he also didn’t need to turn around to know he was absolutely livid.
the car ride home was silent, unsettling even. fox could only imagine how his father was going to reprimand him but when they stopped at a warehouse fox was left confused as to why they were brought here and not home. of course he was taught not to question so fox got out without a word. perhaps he should have questioned why they were here because before he knew it he felt a white hot pain on his back. He managed to get a small glimpse of his father beating him with a crowbar before all went black. He had gone against his father’s wishes and now he was paying for it. the fact he wasn’t dead was sympathy on it’s own but fox was left for dead in that warehouse. He didn’t know how long he was there for but after some time he mustered up enough course to try and seek out help.
wondering the streets of new york looking like he did wasn’t the smartest idea but it garnered the attention of fred jones. when asked if he was okay fox looked the man dead in the eyes and retorted ‘what do you think?’ and when asked if he had a home near by fox went silent.
he had no home anymore. no family. nothing. that alone was enough to have fred take him home. the man saw a lot of himself in the young boy before him: angry and afraid. fox protested and insisted he only stay a day or two until he figured something out. he didn’t need any handouts from strangers. even if they were wealthy strangers. but two days soon turned to a week, to five months and before he knew it fox was adopted into the jones family. it took him quite some time to adjust to a real family. fox was hesitant at first, brash and heinous towards them. it wasn’t until he spent alone time with daphne did fox feel like he belonged. there was no ploy, no gimmick, they actually cared for him. it was a feeling he wasn’t used to. he allowed himself to be loved and for the first time loved in returned. maybe not love, but he cared for the jones’ and saw them as his real family. it took some time but even his relationship with fred has come around.
currently, fox is the new leader of the next generation of mystery inc. after spending time with his parents their love of the paranormal rubbed off on him. the fact fred wanted to pass the baton down to his son was a honor in it’s own. they trusted him. it’s not something fox took for granted. he also did modeling as well thanks to january. daphne’s love of fashion did indeed rub off on him. you’ll never catch him in a dull outfit. Compared to the life he used to live Fox was now in paradise. he was happy to let the old him die and be reborn into someone new. ( although the new him wasn’t so great either ). the last he heard of them it was that they were in jail. without his so called luck on their side they were finally caught but being incarcerated wasn’t enough for fox. no he wanted them to suffer the way they intended he did but that’s a whole bag of trauma fox refuses to acknowledge among other feelings he’s repressed.
he was happy with his life, happy with his family and of course happy to make people miserable. his life was perfect until stefan mcqueen decided they would be friends. fox didn’t do friends but he found himself growing attached to the idiot. and of course when marcus teague decided to punch him in the face it left fox to develop something towards him. the anger and hatred he felt melted into something else. something that fox wishes would go away because he can’t like marcus.
let alone be in love with him.
but hey, it’s just another feeling getting shoved into a box never to see the light of day.

Could you pls do a hc with Rio when Beth shoot his girl instead of him and then he thinks she's dead but she came back?
Tumblr media
Somebody come tell me why my overactive imagination having ass practically turned this into a drabble
He knew he shouldn’t have gotten involved with her
He knew he should’ve just let Mick pop her ass when he had wanted to
Instead, he kept her around because he figured that she would’ve been useful
She had turned out to just be a thorn in his side instead though and had become more trouble than she was worth
It had all come to a head when she had snuck into the home that he lived in with you
Her plan had been to wait until he got home to take him out
To shoot him and take over the empire, as if she had the skill
She hadn’t counted on him you being there though
She had heard that you were visiting family and wouldn’t be back until the weekend
You had returned early though and were with him on a date night
So when you both returned home, Rio had gone in first while you locked up the door
You heard him talking and then it was a blur
You walking up to him to see Beth standing before him in the dark
Her gun shaking in her hands
He tried to reason with her, tried to get her to cut the shit
Not for his sake really but for yours
And she was pulling the trigger then, you instinctively placing your body in front of his
Always wanting to protect him
The bullet hit you and you were dropping to the floor then, searing pain in your chest as Beth fearfully dashed out of the door taking advantage of Rio’s distraction
He’s cradling you then, holding your head with one hand and pressing down painfully on your bullet wound with the other
You can’t remember much else after that, your memory splotchy
You remember being put in his car, his hands bloody as the rustled you to keep you talking
His voice, worried and angry as he kept comforting you
The bright lights above you as you were wheeled into the ER
His hand grasping yours and then getting yanked away as they took you to the OR, leaving him
The police come due to the reported gunshot wound and they’re questioning him about everything which he more or less refuses to answer lest he uncover the whole operation
Plus, he didn’t want them locking Beth up
He wanted to get his hands on her and deal out the retribution himself
The cops push and push and get nothing and as a result, he’s not allowed in since they don’t know if he was a threat to you himself
You’re intubated and can’t speak yet
He’s alone now, waiting in the waiting room and it feels like an eternity as he sits there, your blood dried and caked on his hands
He feels like he’s been there years when the doctor finally comes out and sits with him a solemn look on his face as he delivers the news
How they’re trying everything but they can’t tell him anything else due to the investigation and he had to start coming to terms with that
They send him home and it’s already early morning when he’s got his men around him, listening as he growls out the order to find Beth and bring her to him alive
He can’t sleep and instead opts for a shower heading back to the hospital
He’s fearing the worst
He’s sure that you died during the night, all alone and the thought is killing him
He just hopes that they’ll at least let him see your body one last time
So he’s more than surprised when the nurse is smiling at him, ushering him into your room
Telling him how you had made a great leap in recovery overnight and they had extubated you, allowing you to assure both them and the police that he wasn’t the one that was a threat to you
He could nearly cry when he walks in and sees you there, looking worse for wear but alive
Its all soft, careful hugs and kisses then as he thanks whoever is there that he still has you
He listens as the doctor goes over recovery and dressing changes and everything else
Talking about Beth’s punishment will come later and he spends the rest of the time that you’re there in the hospital by your side, vowing to never let you get hurt again

Collateral Damage - Overwatch
I fully blame @cinlat for this disaster. Based on this post by @real-overwatch-facts
Ana paused outside of Jack’s office and tugged her uniform straight across her stomach. She had been off of the base for most of the morning, so she’d been looking forward to a late lunch when she got back. As soon as she got back in range, however, a secure communication had come across her datapad. Apparently Jack needed to meet with Ana at her ‘earliest possible convenience’. Only one thing made the man bring out those famous midwestern manners of his: trouble.
“Come in.” A gruff voice answered Ana’s knock. When she swept into the office, the man behind the desk clicked off whatever he’d been working on then turned his attention to the door. As the blue glow faded from his face, Ana noted the weariness in his eyes.
“Have a seat,” Jack indicated the chair across his desk and Ana felt her eyebrow arching at the distance he put between them. Jack rarely treated her as a subordinate, but she could feel the mantle of responsibility that he’d wrapped around himself. She wracked her mind to come up with a reason, but found nothing that would have produced this effect.
Ana sank into the chair, crossed her legs at the knee, and tapped the air rhythmically with one foot. Jack watched her without speaking for a moment. Then, he sighed. “Ana, we need to talk. We’ve had some,” Jack paused, struggling for the right word. “Well, there have been some complaints.”
Narrowing her eyes, Ana stared at the man across from her and tried to read between the lines. “Is this about that job in Rio? Cortez stepped into my line of fire, what was I supposed to do? The bullet only grazed him.”
Jack’s lips compressed into a thin line of annoyance or amusement. Ana wasn’t sure which. “And Rodriguez?”
“Nobody likes him,” Ana countered without missing a beat. The man was insufferable and overbearing, everything she hated. “He’s a know-it-all who refused to back down. I gave him multiple warnings, then when he refused to move, I took the shot anyway.”
Chuckling under his breath, Jack lifted a report from his desk. His eyes scanned down the document. Ana assumed it was a list of names, and while she couldn’t read them, she saw the damning black ink through the pale paper. “What about Smith?”
Frowning, Ana tried to conjure an image to match the name. When she offered a blank look, Jack sighed and shook his head. “The new agent in Cairo? It was his second mission.”
“It was through and through,” Ana interrupted, fighting to suppress a smile at the memory. The boy had been so young and eager, dangerously so. He needed to learn to listen to his superiors. “He bled a little, and we bagged the Talon operative. That was a victory, and you know it.”
The smile that Jack had been fighting against finally tugged at the corners of his lips. Then, he raised a hand to brush fingers over his left shoulder. His eyes took on a far away look, undoubtedly recalling some memory. “What about Paris?”
Ana flashed her most ingratiating smile, remembering Jack’s grunt of pain in her ear. “Honestly, I thought you’d move. Besides, with all those chemicals they pumped into your bloodstream, you and Gabriel hardly count. If I recall correctly, you were completely healed before we got to evac.”
Jack nodded and laid the report back on his desk. Ana wondered why it had been printed instead of sent digitally, then decided that it didn’t matter. Obviously she’d had enough friendly fire incidents that someone higher up than Jack had finally noticed. Either that, or Angela had complained about having to patch up Overwatch soldiers after missions with their sniper. Either way, Ana’s record spoke for itself: the ends justified the means. She was hardly careless with people’s lives and had saved far more than she ended. .
Jack steepled his fingers together, looking far more serious than Ana had seen in a long time. “We brought your rifle in for some modifications--”.
“You did what?” Ana thundered, momentarily forgetting to keep her voice to a respectful level. Nobody touched her gun without her permission. Jack knew that; they’d had plenty of conversations on that subject over the years.
Jack held up a hand to settle the angry words and the building fury before they could explode. Ana bit her tongue as the explanation stumbled out. “What I meant to say is there’s been an adjustment to your ammunition. Someone with a much higher IQ than mine created rounds that recognize the difference between friendly and hostile targets.”
“I--wait, how is that even possible?” Science had expanded significantly over the past ten years, but Ana couldn’t imagine that level of intelligence being imprinted into a bullet. It seemed like a terrible idea to make weapons even more powerful than they already were.
“No idea,” Jack admitted with a self-deprecating laugh. “It has something to do with biotic markers injected into Overwatch agents before missions? The explanation was far above my pay grade.”
Ana hummed, wondering if anything was really that far above Jack’s position. Of course, he didn’t have to understand the details of something to approve of the concept. He offered a printout that detailed the new weaponry. Ana skimmed over the explanation, then grinned. “So basically, you’re encouraging me to shoot everyone without prejudice?”
“I--no, that’s not what we’re saying at all.” Jack frowned, clearly trying to determine if the words were a joke. Deciding to err on the side of caution, he continued. “We are minimizing our damages in the field by introducing a healing mechanic to your rifle.”
“Angela explained it to you, didn’t she?” Ana guessed, hearing the medic’s words clearly coming from Jack’s mouth. She waved him off before he could answer. “It's fine, I don’t care who came up with it. What really matters is have they made similar ammo for my handgun yet?”
Jack started to speak, then stopped as he considered the question. The frown lines around his  mouth deepened as he tried to figure out the angle. “Why would you need something like that for close range combat?”
Already picturing the expression on Gabriel’s face when she shot him for insubordination, Ana grinned. “Oh, I’m just curious.”

Hellsing Liveblog, Chapters 20-24
By garn, it’s been a while.   This ‘ere’s the “Age of Empire” arc, followed by two one-offs, “Call to Power” and “Ultima Online”.
Tumblr media
Last time, Hellsing sent Alucard, Seras, and Pip Bernadotte to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to find out more about Millennium.   But Millennium was expecting them, and sent Tubalcain Alahambra to attack Alucard almost as soon as he arrived.
Recall that the only reason Hellsing knew to check Brazil was because of a tip offered up by their Catholic counterpart, Vatican Section XIII, the Iscariot Organization.  Iscariot knew about Millennium because they had discovered that the Vatican had helped them move men and materials out of Nazi Germany and into South America.   Which brings us to this chapter, which is a flashback showing how Iscariot found out in the first place.
The date on this chapter really helps me understand all of this, because when I watched this scene in the anime, I thought it was taking place in the present.   But no, this is set back in July, barely a week after Seras became a vampire.  Note that Bishop Maxwell already knows a great deal about this by this point.  He’s not talking to this guy to learn more, he’s confronting him about the crimes he’s already discovered.
Tumblr media
This rando bishop he’s talking to was one of the guys who helped Millennium during World War II.    He claims to have been deceived, but Maxwell knows the truth: that he and the others helped Millennium because they knew they were secretly researching vampires, and wanted in on some sweet, sweet vampirism.
This is a recurring theme in Hellsing, where Millennium gets a lot of help from various patsies by promising to make them immortal. Dandyman got all those SWAT team guys to help him by promising immortality to their superiors, and I have a sneaking suspicion that Dandyman himself was just a rube that joined Millennium thinking it was a path to greater power, when in fact they only sought to use him as a test of Alucard’s abilities.   And so it was with the treasonous bishops in the 1940s.   They helped Millennium move to South America, but their research in Europe was destroyed by Hellsing during the war.    And the above page shows us our first look at young Walter, before he retired to the life of a butler.
Tumblr media
And now we see Heinkel Wolfe, the star of “Cross Fire”, Kouta Hirano’s three-issue manga about gun-toting assassin nuns.   “Cross Fire” was featured as backups in the first three collected volumes of Hellsing, which works out nicely, so we can recognize Heinkel as she debuts in this story.    She executes this bishop for his unspeakable crimes against the church.
And really, it is a pretty horrific thing that this guy did.   I mean, I thought about it the other day, how this guy’s pretty high up there in the ranks of the Catholic church.   He doesn’t just go to Mass on Sundays, he’s devoted his whole life to the faith, and then he just turns his back on it as soon as there’s a hint of a chance that he could become an immortal vampire.   And then it falls through, so he spends the next several decades just sort of hoping no one will find out what he did.  It’s a pretty dark thing, though it’s easy to overlook in a whole series of dark moments.
Tumblr media
Back in Brazil, the news media and authorities still can’t make any sense of the Alucard/Dandyman battle.   Alucard and his pals escaped in a news chopper and Al must have hyp-mo-tized the pilot to cover their tracks.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, the mysterious guys who were watching the Dandyman from afar, well they head back to their secret lair.    The Major is the guy in the glasses, and the Captain is the guy in the big coat.   There’s also the Doctor, who sort of defies description, but we’ll deal with him later.   It was the Major who ran the vampire research project back in the 1940s, and the Doctor who conducts all the research.   The Doctor had been pretty confident about all the powers he gave to the Dandyman, and was dismayed to see Alucard defeat him but the Major doesn’t mind at all, because he’s got plenty more vampires to throw at this particular problem.
They board a blimp, the Graf Zeppelin III, bound for Jaburo, Brazil.  I looked up the Graf Zeppelin to understand the reference, and it turns out the first two were aircraft carriers, not blimps.   These were planned during the 1930′s as Nazi Germany began to re-arm for World War II, but by the time the war actually started, Hilter had lost interest in the project, and the German Navy focused instead on U-boats.    Both Graf Zeppelins were left uncompleted, so maybe this blimp is named after them as a reference to abandoned Nazi projects that could be revived somehow.   As for Jaburo, I looked that up and only found references to the Gundam franchise, so I’m pretty sure this is just a fictional town.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Alucard and his team check into a motel, and he calls home to report that he successfully absorbed Dandyman’s memories when he killed him and drank his blood.  He now knows everything Dandyman knew about Millennium.   Integra orders him to return to London immediately, as the Queen of England herself wants to know what’s going on here.   Al wants to know if Tegs enjoyed all the violence he caused in Rio, but she’s like “stfu.”
Tumblr media
Up to now, Seras and Pip had been scouting around, trying to find some way to get out of the country, but there’s no planes and no ships available.  They were, at least, able to bring back some McDonald’s.    Wait... MacDooolnald’s.   See?  Giorno drives his vampire dad to MacDooolnald’s, but Seras goes out and gets it and brings it back for Alucard, because theirs is a much healthier relationship.
Tumblr media
But Al wants to steal a plane.    Pip and Seras don’t take this well, but now I finally see why Al is suggesting this.   He was ordered to return home at once, so this seems like the only way.
Tumblr media
Then Alexander Anderson shows up and starts punching the shit out of Al, because why not?
Tumblr media
Everybody draws their badass weapons to escalate the fight, including Seras, who picks up her giant cannon, but Anderson just thinks it’s funny, and it snaps him out of his fightin’ mood long enough to explain why he’s here.
Tumblr media
Seems the Vatican wants to get Alucard back to London as well, so they sent Anderson to tell them about a private plane they arranged just for this purpose.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, in Jaburo, the Major reports back to his “superiors”, but he refuses to explain what he was doing in Rio.  The Major claims he’s under special orders from Hitler, and these orders supersede all other command structures.    Basically, all these colonels and generals have little choice but to sit back and watch Millennium operate without them.   The Major gives them only a thin veneer of respect, and barely at that.
Tumblr media
Enter Zorin Bltz, a lieutenant in Millennium, who explains it neatly for the reader.  The Major set up all this Millennium stuff after the war, only for these other officers to show up on their doorstep later, probably seeking refuge in the postwar world.   They know there’s vampire stuff going on here, and they want to be vampires too, but the Major isn’t interested in that.  I guess he figures if he turns them into vampires, they would try to pull rank on him.
Tumblr media
But the old timers are also extremely curious about the Major’s goal.   He’s used the research to create a thousand vampire soldiers, but what for?   The Major explains that he’s out to “savor the joy of war.”
Let me pause here to talk about werewolves.   Millennium also has at least two of those: the Captain, and Chief Warrant Officer Schrödinger.   As he returned to Jaburo, the Major asked Schrödinger about “the other werewolves”, and he said they would be along shortly, but we never actually see those guys.   Unless Zorin Blitz and Rip van Winkle are supposed to be werewolves, but I’m pretty sure they’re not.
Tumblr media
On the plane ride back to England, Alucard has a dream, reliving his defeat at the hands of Abraham van Helsing a century earlier.
Tumblr media
In London, everyone’s waiting for him to show up, including representatives from the Vatican.  Heinkel wonders if maybe Anderson flubbed his mission to give Alucard the plane, but Maxwell explains that they had to send Anderson to Brazil, because he knows Anderson is loyal to a fault.   If they sent just any old operative, there’d be too great a risk of that guy defecing to Millennium for a taste of that sweet vampire power.
Tumblr media
Then Alucard finally shows and pays his respects to the Queen of England.   Let’s face it, this is Elizabeth II, I don’t care how the art hides her in silhouette. This story depicts her as being such an old woman after all this time, but it’s 2021 and she’s still alive today.  Alucard praises he beauty.   I get the impression he finds human aging to be something precious in his eyes.
Tumblr media
Alucard explains what we’ve already been over: That Millennium is the new name for the culmination of that Nazi vampire research project in the 1940s.   Alucard and Walter put an end to the project in 1944, but the Major somehow escaped and kept going.
Tumblr media
Then Schrödinger appears in the room, to the shock of everyone.    He claims that he is “everywhere”, a talent which allows him to show up anywhere in spite of security.  He claims to be an envoy from Millennium, and sets up a Zoom call with the Major.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Basically, the Major declares war on Hellsing and Great Britain, and on Alucard specifically, by name.   He has no goal, which is basically another way of saying that he wants to fight war for its own sake.   There’s no strategic objective to any of this.   The Major finally has his army of vampire soldiers, and now he wants to take them out into the field and see what they can do.
Oh, also he has his “superior” officers brutally executed on the video feed, which seems kind of dumb, since neither Hellsing nor Iscariot knew about any of those guys.  Ties things up nicely for the reader, I guess.
Tumblr media
Alucard is overjoyed at the prospect of destroying the Major all over again, and Integra orders him to kill Schrödinger while Seras shoots the Major’s iPad.  Then QE2 orders Integra and Alucard to destroy Millennium, like they hadn’t already been workin on that.
And yeah, there we are.

Post S3 and Ideas from your WIP basket!
WOO OKAY
Post S3
When season 3 ended, I had this idea for this awesome post season multi-chapter fic. It probably would have been like 12-15 chapters, and was full of UST>RST>UST and angst and fluff. A kind of fix it fic, you know? It was inspired by this idea that Beth would gradually forget about the hitman because he is ignoring her, and that the final conflict is the hitman finally showing up to do the job she paid him to do, after her and Rio had worked through their shit and were on good terms/kind of in a relationship. It spiraled into something much bigger and more complex, to the point where even that final hook was on the chopping block. I think I ended up wanting the ultimate goal of the fic to be them finally teaming up and being head of their own departments. Kind of my “how I want this show to end” thing.
There was Beth finally losing her shit on Rio and Dean! Finally kicking the latter out! Demanding equal claim to her work from the former! Rio/Annie/Ruby fun! Rival gangs! One or both of them saving/taking care of each other! Them getting into an argument and finally just talking (yelling) about everything that’s happened between them! Honesty! Pain! Vulnerability! Beth bossing up for real! Outsmarting and possibly poaching Phoebe to the dark side! Being disgustingly horny around Mick until he flees!
I researched Spa and Pool businesses for hours, y’all. I know so much about that shit now.
The WIP document is 2100 words of just planning and outlining. I think I have snippets of scenes and story hooks, but I was going all in on structuring this thing. It was a huge project.
Unfortunately, I lost a lot of steam re: writing and the fandom, so I abandoned everything. The little thing I posted last night is the first time I’ve written anything since May, when I was planning this fic. Depression/Anxiety/Pandemics are tough, you know?
But honestly lately I can’t stop thinking about Brio, and I miss reading my flavor of fics (mostly fluff with a little angst, UST, slow burns, tropes galore!) and the number of fics posted daily has slowed, so I want to contribute! And I’m writing for myself now more than ever. So maybe I’ll pick this back up at some point?
A couple snippets:
"I've been protectin' you, keepin' you from other guys' radar. Not everyone is as nice as me, Elizabeth."
She scoffs at 'nice'. "I can handle myself. When Gil tried to take advantage of me, I flipped it back in my favor. And I shot you, didn't I? Took you out of the game for a while."
His dark eyes deepen to black, long, thick eyelashes framing them in a way that makes him beautiful but absolutely dangerous. He crowds into her space, staring her down, and sneers, "Cept you didn't finish the job, huh? And you won't even touch a gun now."
Beth's mouth pulls into a sharp line. "There are other ways to protect myself."
+
Discussions with Rio about output numbers, she should be making more fake cash as she has the capacity for it, except the paper porcupine presses can't keep up with demand, Rio wonders why she can't bring more presses into the warehouse, they argue about Dean not knowing and thinking it's legit, how it's hindering the operation. Rio offers a guy or two, since he knows they're trustworthy --
Trustworthy to you
He just smiles

ONE BED TROPE :)
Ideas
So I have three ideas broken down in this document that I really like and was pretty dedicated to writing at some point, but that point was very nebulous haha all of them would still be fun to explore, even with the events of Season 3 unfolding! All of them would take place before the Season 2 finale though. I prefer to pretend that didn’t happen whenever I can.
So first idea is: Jane did disappear, and Dean orchestrated it in an attempt to frame Rio and his gang in order to convince Beth that Rio is evil and to remove him from her life. She goes to Rio and he helps her figure out what happened/find Jane. Honestly I just want to mess with Dean being like.... an actual psycho lol and this fic would be in that Dubby sweet spot that I love so very, very much!
2nd Idea: Dean threatens to get Rio killed, destroy Beth’s life, and take their kids away forever if she doesn’t walk away from him. Instead of folding, Beth goes to Rio and together they work out a plan to frame Dean in the FBI’s investigation. Beth pretends to be the perfect non-criming wifey while seeing Rio in secret; their relationship gets more and more serious until they are sleeping/being romantic together regularly. Just when they are about to finish their con, Dean starts cottoning on and buys a gun to confront Rio with, and stumbles on the pair in the middle of some sexy times. Accidentally fires (cause he’s scared as shit and an idiot) and Beth takes the bullet instead. Aaaaand all the aftermath of that. AGAIN that Dubby sweet spot!
3rd Idea: Te Amoooooo! Teeth rotting fluff and established relationship goodness, I don’t give a fuck if it’s a little OOC, I want to write it so I can read it. Basically, Beth doesn’t sleep naked with Rio because she’s self conscious, Rio is hurt by it because he interprets it as her not trusting him. Slowly she wears less and less until she finally doesn’t dress after sex, Rio is sated and half asleep and deliriously happy and accidentally whispers te amo into her hair (thinking she’s asleep) then freezes and gets super awkward and distant when he realizes what he said. She asks about it the next morning, if he acted funny because she slept naked and he’s like no no uhhh I said something and she’s like, oh that? What’s the big deal? You’ve said I love you before and he has to explain why it’s such a huge deal.
Te Amo is the one I want to work on the most, I need the fluff, okay??? Also the idea is a collab with @johnisntevendead (ConvolutedConcussions), so like it’s got that friend enabling thing going for it haha
Thank you for sending me this! I wasn’t expecting many of these, and I have been so pleasantly surprised!!
Send me a title from my list of WIPs that you’d like to know more about!

So sorry for the rant. <3 I love that we get to see how slightly different Rio acts when he's alone with Nick (the bodyguard don't count). Be it in the car after bail or the gym. There's still recognizable Rio but I feel he gives off suddenly a more young brother ish vibe that we saw in the flash backs, who's presenting confident isn't as strong. Like that person is still there inside. Suddenly he appears less strong, less threatning and less 'King'. (Part 1)
Which just shows off the power dynamics, shows Nick converting Rio back to that person. Like the car scene, Rio reminded me of a scolded kid picked up from school by a disaproving parent figure, all pressed against the door and staring out the window. The gym, playful in a teasing brotherly fashion and then like a sibling in trouble tries but failing at dismissing his unreported actions by acting cool and then self-satisfied regarding ''She know'. (part 2)
It's very telling, especially when Rio seems more secure in himself against Nick, who did have probing questions but couldn't have as much control at the dinner with family and Beth present. And we saw at the gym Nick not liking being physically bested, especially when he clearly pre-planned to put Rio in his place by having the money ready and his bodyguard wordlessly giving him an advantage. I can't wait for Rio to overcome him after so many years!(End)
I totally agree! I’m loving the way Nick is really bringing more texture to Rio as a character overall, and I think a compelling exploration of how complex longterm relationship dynamics are? It’s sort of like how last season really focused on Annie chafing under Beth because their relationship has always been Beth as a quasi-mother figure on top of being a sister and Annie’s had to do a lot of work to really figure out what her relationship with Beth looks like now that they’re both adults.
What we’ve seen of Rio and Nick so far feels so complex, and we’ve only just skimmed the surface at this stage. The power dynamic there is interesting to me too, because like I’ve mentioned a few times now, Nick might be ‘in control’ to an extent, but this season so far has made it extremely clear  that Nick is far from all-knowing and that Rio doesn’t really report to him. The fact that Nick had no idea about either Beth or Lucy is pretty firm evidence of that, particularly given they were both pretty fundamental parts of Rio’s new money operation last season.
It’s going to be really interesting to see where the arc goes, because I don’t think we’ve had a character quite like Nick before on the show, and how that plays out could go in so many different ways! I can’t wait to see how!

I was just rewatching the scene where Dean walks in on Rio and Beth in Paper Porcupine. I didn’t really understand before Beth and Rio’s conversation very well, like why he was so insistent on not needing her to wash while Beth kept pushing it. But now I’m wondering, was Rio trying to make her less involved in the operation following the arrest? So she’d have less on him if she was still working with them? And was Beth trying to keep them more entangled? (While ensuring fair pay of course haha)
that could be a part of it! but i always read it more as beth showing growth and learning that she can't take rio at face value. he keeps insisting that the job is easy—just the creation of the money and the drop—but beth doesn't trust it. she presses, rio insists, and then she questions him about her payment. rio lies by omission so she's really trying to suss out all possible angles to find the trick—he always has one, after all, always likes to leave her in the lurch, and beth is trying to mitigate that.
of course, beth ends up being right because rio caveats at the end of the episode that the drop is actually in canada and the catch is that she has to figure out to get the money over the border all by herself.
to me, it's really a scene about beth showing that she knows him and that she's trying very hard to get on equal footing on him, but that rio still wants to wield power over her even when there's no real benefit for him. the whole job ends up showing the lack of trust on both of their sides. beth doesn't trust him to be straightforward with her which means she's left scrambling, and he doesn't trust her with the task so he sends his guys to trail her which means she ends up ditching all the money to protect herself.
in a weird way, though, it shows some development in their relationship. they don’t particularly enjoy working together in this moment, but they both want to keep the other one around, and they are sitting and collaborating and talking just—you know—badly.
by showing beth's skepticism of rio in this scene, it contextualizes later episodes in the season, particularly when she doesn't know how to process rio returning her furniture or the money (she's waiting for the catch there, too, only it never comes) and when she decides to go out on a limb and trust him when he offers to help her take down nick, and again when he fails to show up for that very thing.
it's not just that beth shouldn't trust him, it's that she knows she shouldn't—has good evidence even!—but she chooses to anyway, and she only really needed one moment. she only needed him to give up the game just once. she was waiting for him, and when he met her halfway, she was ready to let her walls down.

Good Girls Tag Game!
Good Girls Tag Game
Tagged by @pynkhues - thanks!
When did you start watching Good Girls?
Right before season 2 started! I remember I watched S1 6 times in a row - I could basically watch the entire thing in a day and I 100% rewatched the Beth/Rio scenes because they were divine and I had never shipped anything faster in my life.
Why did you start watching Good Girls?
It’s strange, I was really into the commercial when I first saw it air on NBC for S1. Joan was my favorite character in Mad Men and I loved Retta from Parks. The thing is, I’m horrible at following up on things like that, so I completely missed all of S1. And then one day I was mindlessly browsing Netflix and I saw it was just added. Figured it would be something lowkey to watch...and 10 episodes later I was making a blog and looking to see if other people felt the same about Rio and Beth (turns out there’s a crap ton of you out there!)
Who is your favorite character?
I’m going with Beth. She’s so multidimensional and it’s really fun to pick apart her character and her motivations
What's your favorite ship?
Beth and Rio, who were like a gateway drug to the show for me. Though I absolutely love Ruby and Stan.
Who is your favorite secondary character?
I’m torn between JT and Mick, though because we haven’t had a lot of Mick moments to work with, I’ll go with JT. Some of his one-liners still make me laugh out loud.
If you could give Beth one background detail what would it be?
That she secretly likes not being put together. She always has her hair, makeup, and clothes perfectly in place and we never really get to see her outside of that type of refinement. So I’d love if when she was alone she just kind of let herself go and revel in not having to put on a show for others - no makeup, out of control hair, ratty clothes, binging some crap show while eating junk food.
If you could give Annie one background detail what would it be?
That she loves video games and is kind of nerd about them. Like she has played an ungodly amount of video games. For me, Annie seems like someone who very much still holds onto her childhood, and I feel like she (more than Beth) would have loved getting her hands on the newest game. And gaming can be a very social thing, and Annie is more easy going than Beth is so I think it would attract her.
If you could give Ruby one background detail what would it be?
For Ruby, that she had a kick-ass take no shit mother. Maybe it’s because Retta naturally comes off that way to me, but I imagine Ruby being raised by an absolute hurricane of a woman that turned her into who she is now.
What's your favorite crime related moment or storyline?
I loved the girls going to Canada and bringing back the rolls of money because it led us to see a small glimpse into the scale of Rio’s operation. It was kind of the first peek behind the curtain.
I also loved the money making Beth/Rio scene in S3.
What's your favorite personal moment or storyline?
Ruby’s “I’m that bitch” speech, and her “I’ll be damned if I threw away my soul so you could turn out like this.” speech to Sara in S3.
Ruby involves herself in crime for the sole purpose of providing for her family. She doesn’t get any sort of thrill out of it like Beth does. So I think it’s hard for her to have Stan and Sara attack her for something she did for their benefit. She can only take it for so long before she snaps, and it turns out to be some of the best delivered monologues of the show.
As for the characters @pynkhues picked - this was pretty hard!
Fuck: Turner
Marry: Mary Pat
Kill: Phoebe
Bonus: Add 3 characters in the hashtags for your tagged friends to play fuck, marry, kill! (or snog, marry, avoid!)
I’m tagging: @sothischickshe, @mego42, @femalegothic, and @bourbon-ontherocks

missmarycherry replied to your post “missmarycherry replied to your post “just watched the 3x07 sneak peek...”
They make it so hard to like Beth this season for me her choices and her decisions in terms of Rio like this season just feels like more bullets to the Brio train like he’s a murderer of an innocent girl who steals our operation and he needs to die again is the message I’m getting from those sneak peaks 🙄 I’m over it like this is suppose to be an amazing season I don’t see it
i mean we’re not sure it’s for rio, maybe it’s not 🤷‍♀️😂
i can understand why you feel like that. we all know beth is very good at compartmentalising and her grief and guilt mostly manifest through taking care of others, like we’ve seen before with dean when he got shot and then with her taking care of marcus as best as she could (and now with au jus). but i feel like we needed more. we needed a scene of her opening up to the girls instead of joking about it or one where we see her lay awake at night - idk, just something. because yeah christina’s face acting is amazing and i personally had no problem reading the guilt on it but it’s left a bit up to the viewer’s interpretation and, even worse i think, is that it’s not specifically about rio; it’s all about marcus - she killed a little boy’s father. i wanted her to grapple with having killed a man she had feelings for and a very complex relationship with, not just someone’s dad. you get what i mean? at least that’s what it felt like to me.
and i feel like if we’d gotten more of that in ep1, it would’ve been easier to deal with and understand the way she’s acting now. because i understand - he has flat out told her that he wants to kill her, she’s scared - she’s right to be scared! but i don’t like that they’ve decided to go this way about it. because rio is back to being the bad guy and beth is the victim and we haven’t gotten, as an audience, to see enough of her guilt to be completely on board of this train, because we know what happened before and that doesn’t exactly give her sympathy points. y’know what i mean? like yeah she’s the victim here. he wants her dead and in the meantime is making her work for no pay. she’s the victim. but this is happening because she almost killed him. it’s a consequence of her actions. so i feel bad for her, but i also want her to finally show some sign of guilt over (almost) killing him (the man, not a father figure) and i want her to finally admit to herself that she’s in way too deep because of herself. character flaws are awesome, but as an audience you need to see growth, otherwise it just becomes frustrating - it’s so funny because beth seems to take on everyone else’s problems and make them her own, she’s always there to face the consequences and to help fix whatever happened; but she can’t seem to understand that she's the one who decided to rob the store, and then to continue working for rio, to use his money for the dealership, to strongarm him into 50/50 - so if she’s in way too deep with a gang or criminal enterprise or whatever, then that’s on her. and i want her to finally admit that. i feel like maybe we’ll get that now, it seemed like she understood lucy’s death was all about her and she seemed to feel very guilty. idk where i’m going with this. i love beth, but i want her to finally own her decisions when it comes to rio and crime and stop blaming the consequences on others.
