A Bit of an Update

[ Hi everyone! It’s been a while, hasn’t it?

Since I haven’t posted anything new in the past... four months? Ish? I thought I’d take a moment to let you all know where things currently stand with regard to my life, this blog and its future.

Fair warning, though: I’ve got a lot to say. ]

[ Let’s start with the obvious: I haven’t posted anything new since December, and even then, I wasn’t posting very regularly.

There are reasons for that. Four big ones, to be precise.

The first (and biggest) of those is my job. I might have mentioned it before, but I started my first full time job last summer. It’s not a fun or fulfilling position and I plan on leaving it as soon as I possibly can, but right now, it’s the only source of income I’ve got. 

It also takes up most of my free time. Back when I was in university, I was able to answer multiple asks each day. Now, I’m lucky if I draft a new post once a week. 

Secondly, this blog has gotten a lot more attention than I ever expected it would.

As I’ve said many times before, I started faceless-conspiracy-buff as a passion project. I just wanted to try my hand at writing Q and maybe respond to a few questions from my friends. I had no idea that I’d end up with nearly three hundred followers. 

And I’m grateful for the attention! It’s really, really flattering to know that so many people are interested in my art and writing. 

But it’s also a little intimidating, which brings me to my third point: I’m trying to prioritize my mental health. 

I’m an anxious person by nature and the past year has been quite rough on me. Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is challenging under the best of circumstances and since my circumstances aren’t the best... I’m sure you can see where this is going.

Things have been slowly improving. I’ve been practicing self-care, spending more time with friends and family, and generally trying to deal with my issues in a healthy way. 

I’ve also been trying to cut out sources of unnecessary stress and, unfortunately, writing for this blog can be quite stressful. 

I want to learn to manage that stress before I dive back into my inbox, y’know?

Finally, I’m working on a couple other projects right now. My dad’s a writer, and his number one piece of advice has always been “make your own stuff”. He understands the appeal of fan fiction, but he has always stressed the importance of having full creative control of your work. 

And while I’d like to think that this version of Vic is uniquely mine, in the same way that Gail Simone’s Barbara Gordon is uniquely hers, I don’t own him. I can’t put any of my asks in my portfolio, or submit my flash fiction for publication. 

I like writing Q, but I think it’s important for me to create original stuff too.

All of this is a long way of saying that there were legitimate reasons for my absence this time around.

I don’t want to abandon this blog. I don’t intend to abandon this blog.

I may eventually decide to throw in the towel, but I don’t plan on leaving without giving my boy a proper send off. 

Q is still a major source of inspiration for me and a huge comfort character to boot. He is, for lack of a better term, blorbo from my shows. I love him.

And I love you. All of you. The mutuals, the strangers. The long-time followers, the newbies. The AIs, and the Riddlers, and the Dannyzens, and the vampire hunters, and all the people who send me in-character messages and delightful fan art.

I love you all.

Working on this blog has been hard, but you guys make it worthwhile.

Expect some kind of... something, in the near future. The issues I mentioned will probably keep me from settling into a schedule, but I’m going to try to put something together for all you kind, patient people. It’s the least I can do. ]

Underrated Character GO-

Hmmm! My first thought is SAMS related (shocker), and for a time, I felt that Sun was severely underrated. There are a lot of things that happened that I felt were unfair and put him at a disposition to be less favored than Moon. I haven't been up to date on eps for a while, so idk how I feel about it right now skjsfdkj. Other than SAMS, umm. When I played Genshin, I used to think Barbara was very underrated. No, she's not incredibly meta, but she's still a good unit. Running her instead of Bennett as a healer and attack buff went just fine for me.

jay - anemo bow - self explanatory, gets a gun in burst

chip- pyro sword - can use dual swords, just have one be different than other. burst probably shoots a canon or smthn

gillion - electro claymore - burst reliant character that focuses on shielding other characters at cost of health

dakota- pyro catalyst - very hard to get out from the heizou vibe but there r so many types of martial arts so i feel like it can b different enough

vyncent - hydro polearm?? - changes between stances like childe - man i do not know his weapon but polearm seems fun

william - cryo catalyst - similar life suck mechanic to hu tao or xiao

AWESOME AWESOMEAWESOME i was also thinling anemo for jay!! i wasnt sure if i was on the right track there since i dont know much abt the lore implications of anemo but im glad u agree. i think shed be a charged shot fiend like ganyu to match the sureshot title ^_^ has a marking mechanic similar to childe that gives her bonus dmg on her ult (my version of hunters mark) and her ult is similar to dilucs in that it is a massive fucking bird like her zephyr strike. noo clue what her skill would be though

chip gave me sooo much trouble i think.god. riptide spoilers ahead i guess but his skill could turn his single sword to dual blades where one is entirely pyro similar to the blades he gets from rufus? i cant fully remember how they work though. mechanically its either be a set duration like xingqius rainswords or it could be a stance change like childe.burst i have absolutely nothing but i thought also about giving him a skill similar to rosarias that lets him teleport behind opponents since a) kaeya has teleportation bc of his abyss connections, chip has connections to the black sea, kinda similar there i think it would be a neat parallel, b) chip goes behind people fucking CONSTANTLY a large ampunt of his attacks are him attacking from the front then flipping over them to get their back too and c) literally in the mnm oneshot his power was teleportation. though i suppose that could just be in his na string like kaeya and still be cool

gillion electro IS SO COOL... i had him hydro since like its His Thing but i cant remember anythingg about the reasonings for electro visions so i wasnt sure if i could go for it. thank you also for reminding me the word claymore i can never remember it either. i had his skill down as similar to shinobus too (with elements of barbaras so it reduces incoming dmg too) but with a burst more like .. raidens skill? provides a damage buff to the active character along with dealing damage maybe and his healing would scale off attack

vyncent i am at a LOSS for. most of my vision knowledge is about cryo and i know he isnt that. i had him as sword just because its the shortest range and the closest to a dagger?? stance change to archer is a must but i do also wanthim to be able to change to claymore? and even catalyst? but i cant mechanically come up with ANYTHING. maybe he just has unlimited stance changes with like. a 5 sec cooldown between shifts? that deals some dmg every time he shifts just automatically. i would like his ranger/archer form to have an infusion to make them similar to yoimiya because i think that would be cool but such is life. his burst would be different dependimg on what stance hes in when he casts it, sometimes its healimg sometimes its a buff field sometimes its pure dmg, etc

william cryo catalyst FOR REAL. a lifesteal mechanic is so fucking sick i didnt think of that before. i thought about him a lot i def think his wisp form would be his ult. his skill would be some sort of construct (ie ghostshaping) similar to something like albedo or zhomglis that deals damage and debuffs enemies while hes off field and then comes out for his burst. i think a life drain like xiaos would be coolest, he def does a lot of charged atks during his ult so incread atk speed is in there too + resistence to interruption and maybe even a shield?? like yanfeis c4

Abbott Elementary D&D Episode WHEN baby?

What can I say, I'm a simple lesbian. I see a show with a great group dynamic and I gotta think about what they'd be like at the tabletop.

Plus, I'm...responsibly imbibing and putting off work so HERE WE GO!

Jacob becomes determined to start some kind of gaming club at the school, but he hadn't actually DM'd before so he asks the other teachers if he can do a "practice run" first and bribes them with takeout and beer to let him run a game for them in the gym in the evenings. Surprisingly Barbara has come around to it NOT being a tool of the devil thanks to her and her husband watching Stranger Things together ("If it can help those kids beat a demon and learn to appreciate family in the god-forsaken 1980s, it can't be all bad"). Melissa says she could learn a new game since its no fun card sharking the same five people at her local bar, and Gregory is pretending really really hard that he's not EXTREMELY excited about this because he's always wanted to play but never did as a kid. Ava laughs until she cries when Jacob first asks if she wants to join then flips when Gregory will be there..."and when those craft beers go right through his skinny hipster body" she wants to be there to see his "wild" side. Janine knows nothing about the game but is excited about a new extracurricular activity and thinks its a great way to bond with the kids, and Mr. Johnson wasn't invited but shows up with Coke and a Costco-sized bag of Smartpop because he KNOWS whats up.

Barbara : Definitely a Cleric. She is willing to physically fight Jacob though if she has to "choose a god" from the pantheon, so to keep the peace AND the immersive experience they agree Not To Go Into It but its enough that her healing and spells are faith-endowed. Early on though, she gets some REALLY good rolls to hit when they're surrounded by enemies and she becomes more of a "warcaster" in addition to healing. Lots of buffs and she gets into the idea of a powerful warrior who gives holy blessings with her presence. Probably should've chosen Paladin from the getgo with how she ends up playing, but she makes Cleric work for her.

Melissa : Definitely a Rogue. Okay, I promise all my thoughts aren't basic but also listen to me. The whole concept of the rogue network is SO up her alley. She almost seems like she's not even playing a character at first, but then JACOB surprises her with his NPCs and the two of them roleplay thieves cant as a sort of south philly slang. I think Jacob would be an AMAZing DM so he's ready to meet her where she is (not really invested at first, kind of skeptical on the whole thing), and draw her in by accurately using terminology and making the world feel gritty, lived-in, and familiar - and Melissa LOVEs it. She starts to really get into the fiction of this fantasy world and take the threat/plot hook seriously. Gets yelled at by the support for jumping into fights and going unconscious because she's not a tank class; maybe multiclasses into Barbarian or at least takes a feat or two so she's not going down every fight.

Gregory : The archetypal wizard; old, beard, pointy hat, the whole deal. I hear you thinking "Why not human fighter?" but no. Gregory will not do human fighter, he's been waiting to play D&D for like twenty years and hes researched EVERY aspect of every class. Could be a minmaxer, but moreso is just WAY overthinking the choice so finally Jacob just gives him a premade, high-fantasy, Gandalf-ass wizard named something like Geoffrey Jankins or whatever. Gregory spends a lot of time making his : [ face, worried that he's already destroyed his chance of "having fun in a tabletop game with work friends" because he's THAT kind of person. Once he relaxes, he starts to feel a lot more kinship with his wizard character; he's got a backstory in the premade sheet where he's trying to find a spellbook that was stolen from him that contained years of his hard work and research. Over the course of the game Jankins kind of works with the others the same way Gregory did as he warmed up to them as a substitute, and in the end has the Real Emotional Moment in-game as he realizes what his work was keeping him away from (the relationships with the others in the group being his found family). No one leaves that game with a dry eye.

Ava : Elf Bard, College of Swords. She refused to make a character when Jacob mentioned it involved adding numbers because she's too hot for math, so she got another premade that he knew she'd enjoy. She's actually pretty stoked on the idea of a Creative and Powerful Artist who's dripping with charisma enough that she actually gets the ins and outs of the spell rules really well and is very generous with her Bardic Inspirations ("even to Gregory's old-head-ass"). She does however seem to only use Cutting Words on her own team, specifically Janine ("Jacob! How could you let her use that spell?" "In my defense I didn't think she'd even read the spell sheet!"). I say College of Swords because the worst thing about being a bard is having to share the spotlight with someone else, so she decides she wants to be the hero AND the sexy song vixen who makes the ballad about it.

Janine : Some kind of Genasi or fey druid. She wants to connect with the nature in the world and tries to channel a kind of Pan-from-mythology-meets-Steve-Irwin-depicted-by-Simone-Biles character. Her character motivation is she wants to write a guidebook of the animals - both common and magical - that they come across but keeps absolutely failing her rolls. She rolls a one and slaps a Mystical Enchanted Forest Deer in the face, launching a fight that the party is NOT prepared for. IS very good in a fight; she'll transform into an owlbear and headbutt an enemy away if one of the other party members are in trouble. Only remembers how to use like, three spells total and doesn't tell Jacob that she has no clue how things like spell slots or materials work so she just doesn't track it / makes up a number when asked how much she has. Jacob catches on pretty quickly, but side eyes into the camera to let us know he's deliberately letting it slide because she keeps rolling badly and could use the break.

Mr. Johnson : Makes his own dwarf warlock who's ABSOLUTELY minmaxed to hell. The overall playstyle of the group though is more laid back, but he's after a harder core play experience and only drops in sometimes if he hears there's a boss fight. Can do things from the book that are completely legal but have Jacob looking up obscure status effects and rules to try to keep up. Would probably make a good DM, but says he's more of a Warhammer guy.

Jacob : Obviously the DM, but I imagine that once the kids get into the game one of them might want to take a turn DM'ing. Jacob, gleaming with pride, would be happy to pass the DM screen to the "younger, brighter, woker generation". He joins the party as a ranger ("...which in the fifth edition classic is not the most capable class however with updates and features can be utilized in very specific cases for role-play and battlefi-" "For f*cks sake Jacob just take a shortbow proficiency and lets get on with it"), and spends most of the time that they're playing being extremely proud of his student....until the kid catches him on a technicality on his animal companion range.

i am… skipping the selfie part because as far as i can see tumblr gives no fucks whatsoever about my appearance (i’ve posted selfies and got unfollowed if you can believe that). otherwise, the name got lost in the notifications but here i am with the survey~

1. Are you named after anyone? my first name, no. my middle name of christine, yes, it’s my aunt’s (my dad’s sister) name. it’s interesting because that too is her middle name: her first name is actually joy, after my grandmother.

2. Do you have any kids? nope, and i am not even going to attempt to go in that direction, either. nevermind my (often excruciating) struggles with sexuality for a second: after my parents split up when i was 17, the two months prior to my graduation, i met children that all summer long. and it was horrible. i was still technically a kid myself at 18: but i was having the worst time trying to explain to these children why i was often in a down mood, or why it seemed like i was living off of people, or why i did anything. children are curious, yes, but there are just some lines that nobody can cross—and especially that soon when all i wanted to do was lick my wounds. i decided if these problems that i have are going to be with me for the long haul, i can’t afford to have children. i don’t want a brand-new life to go through what i did and live in a world that is currently trying to kill me. i also don’t want to go through that trauma, either: i’m currently on a rigorous weight loss thing and i have seen how women plump up when pregnant. i really, really don’t want to throw that away.

3. Do you use sarcasm a lot? only when the moment is right.

4. When was the last time you felt sad? like, actually sad? earlier this week. since i started auditing my sexuality last year, i go through periods of intense self-hatred, like “WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?!” they usually go away after i eat something or watch something on tv.

5. What’s the first thing you notice about people? oof, depends on the person. if it’s joey, the first thing i notice is his flyaway curls and his big brown eyes. if it’s alex, it’s his deep soulful eyes and shock of gray. chris, it was his hair and mustache.

6. What sports do you / have you played? baseball, field hockey, archery, shooting, cycling, and i also have a very brief memory of trying out for track and field because i was/still am bit of a runner. never got into basketball or volleyball or tennis, and i can *sort of* swim (may or may not rule out the triathlon in the future, who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️)

8. Any special talent? i’m an okay writer and my art does things, so there’s that. i can also sing (i was in my school’s choir when i was a kid, and i was in drama club), and i’m good at languages, too.

9. Where were you born? ventura, california (between santa barbara and downtown l.a., right on the beach—you’d be amazed how many people from southern california who don’t know where that is).

10. Scary movies or happy endings? probably scary movies. i’m not really a horror movie buff—although i do enjoy horror. my fav horror movie is the exorcist, but i also love movies like ginger snaps and jennifer’s body and jordan peele’s movies.

11. Do you have any pets? yes! annabelle, the three-legged “wonder dog”, cocker spaniel poodle mix, and schnooki, the jew boy old man of the mountain who came with the house and likes to cuddle with me.

12. How tall are you? 5’7”—in my big black boots, i’m closer to 5’8”.

13. What are your hobbies? writing, poetry, photography, working out, gardening, cooking, hiking, collecting rocks, funko pops, legos, and music, ceramics, astronomy, meteorology, and BAKING! i also read a lot.

14. Favorite subject in school? i was a major science nerd in school, so i always loved my art classes and my language classes (i took french all four years of high school 😅). give the left hemisphere a rest for a bit.

15. Dream job? part of me wants to go with the john lennon answer and say, “to be happy”, but i could never answer this. i have my associate’s degree in art (and a dream of mine is to get my master’s), but i also have my deep love of earth science. i also like to work with with my hands: when i took ceramics as part of my degree, i loved it. i absolutely loved it. i also helped build a formula car when i was in stem school—i loved machine shop and welding and woodshop, too. do you see my conundrum here.

it's time to review yelan because I can y not and I love her

yelan is actually a big help to my team, her elemental skill is great, she deals a lot of damage to the enemies and it makes her fast and it's convenient to use(can be useful to get around places faster and although its short her skill can restore stamina so its superior) and I can't stop myself playing around with her skill

although I already have Barbara for the hydro application yelan can give hydro application off-field with her burst and yes Barbara can give hydro application off field too using her skill its just that...razor always freezes and gets electro-charged so yelan's burst is much more superior if you ask me so I might replace Barbara with xingqiu if I ever get him since yelan has issues with energy recharge and he's great for that but Barbara can stay for the heals. Yelan can help out more with her burst, it's very cool and she also gives a buff which increases the damage slowly and that makes it a lot easier for me especially since my world level increased, but the bad thing is that she has energy recharge issues(which I will state oft alot) and she's gonna need her burst up so I might need to build her with the emblem set, along with some energy recharge artifacts and give her the favonius warbow or any bow that gives energy recharge but I'm still gonna give yelan her signature bow despite having a non-existent crit rate because of the aesthetic (I'm blaming myself for that when I'm crying for yelan's burst)

I also heard yelan's dmg is based off of her hp and I get a lot of that so this is quite lucky for me, of course I also need to farm better artifacts for everyone since its shitty and its all on the wrong set, but I did got Barbara on the right set(its still bad but it can work) so that's a relief but anyways

yelan is amazing and even tho she's called 5* xingqiu she's a big help, this actually happened to kazuha too when he was called 5* sucrose but ended up being amazing so everyone came back crawling to him and begging for a rerun and hahaha he's out for revenge but I definitely did not regret pulling for yelan, her only disadvantage is her energy recharge issues but still, it doesnt technically matter unless it's in the spiral abyss then you should care for the energy recharge but aside from that she is much better and useful than I expected, of course I still need to figure out how to build her but she's so amazing and I recommend her(as long as you want her tho, I heard kazuha will be getting a rerun but idk we'll just wait till its confirmed and I definitely need to start farming for him)

her playstyle is fun to use I cannot stop using her skill and I actually raced with my sister a couple of times. Her background is interesting, I'm looking forward to seeing more of her lore and her personality is giving me mysterious vibes, I love it so much I hope hoyo doesn't ruin her and make her an "uwu you changed my life" like what they did with my girl shenhe and she's a great dps if anyone's planning on maining her and if not she can act like a great support or sub-dps, she is compatible with almost any team and the design is so prettyyyy, I think it matches her, I love her she's so perfect I'm sorry thoma I prefer her if we're talking abt the overall character(also yoimiya) and she is a great character so an overall 10/10

I also like that her demon form is a fusion like Marty's, is it a common thing for the Carter family to be a mix of things (Liz is both a gargoyle due to her job and has cracks like those of a statue becuse of how broken she is)?

2.Since Liz is a nerd, do you think she if she had seen Bjorn's demon form she would have made a comparisson to viking related material like she did when Marty commented on him stealing gold?

3. When Liz is in her feral state, what does remain of her mind? Like her hunger increases to a dangerous degree and she becomes wild and dangerous but does she remember certain things like people for long periods of time if they make an everlasting impression on her?

Like we know she can remember Angel Dust as Fooby (was the nickname because of food or some fluffy toy or pet Liz had as kid/teen?), she can feel anger towards those who wronged her like Squeak's gang, the demons that tried to pull her inside a club, insulted and beated the crap outta her when she tried to escape, Terix for hurting and stealing from her besides making Candi "leave" and insulting her (although him and his wife could have saved themselves a lot of trouble by just talking to her about her job, Valentino and their situation instead of plotting behind her back) and Squeaks for firing at her, blowing the right side of her head with her eye. Not to mention, when she wants sex, she has it; like with Bjorn and her trying to call Rodrick's attention when she got on top of him and nuzzling his neck

But how exactly aware is she? Does the rational part of her brain shuts down as it get dominated by her emotions and physical needs like hunger but small fragments of memory can seep in? Like when your senses go back to normal slowly after coming down from a high?

While Liz's demon design is based off Disney Gargoyles, but I was also going for a dragon style since Marty is a dragon. Barbara Carter's demon designed is a drabbed hen like character with a mixture of cat. I didn't put too much thought into her design unfortunately, but I was definitely going for animals that are known for being maternal, but warped.

2. Liz isn't a history buff, but she might have put the pieces together to determine Bjorn hails from the Viking Age.

Alrighty no preamble everyone's saying "where's x person" "where's y person" "is this person there" in the dark crisis preview so because I'm bored I'm gonna go through and point out every single costumed fucker of note in that image let's GO

That said my knowledge only goes so far so I'm gonna put down some unknowns (by number) and would love the help to identify them, as well as anybody who I miss completely!

Lastly, watching mysteriously from the rooftops, we have:

-Deathstroke (Slade Wilson) -Unknowns #16-20: these are distinctive silhouettes, but every villain I think of who would match them definitely wouldn't be the type to pay respects, and every non-villain I think of wouldn't be lurking up here in the first place. Maybe far right is the Trickster from the Flash Rogues? Would appreciate some more guesses!

The people with Deathstroke could also be the other villains on the cover art for Dark Crisis, which would make far right Nekron, second from the right Doomsday, second from the left Ares(?), and idk about the other two, but it'd be kind of wild if all the major villains of this event were just like. Hanging out at the memorial service.

on power creep (an opinion rant by katheryne)

i think i’ve mentioned this multiple times across the past few weeks, but the power creep that genshin’s been displaying recently is really really concerning me.

back in the very beginning, when the abyss was full of whopperflowers and regisvine, diluc and childe were the best damage dealers (so i’ve heard). then, when ganyu and xiao came out (that's when i joined the game), they very much became the ceilings of damage, replacing fireboy and waterg-- er, waterboy. at the moment, i wasn’t too concerned because hey, i’d just joined, i was still making my way up to where the dmg would actually matter.

but now that i have, and now that i’ve caught up with the entire story, i’m realize how the inazuma characters are (and i've heard this almost verbatim from multiple people) 'just more cracked-up versions of characters that already exist'. not only that, but you have to wait until you unlock inazuma (which is behind an AR lock, in case yall didn’t know) to be able to even forage for ascension materials. dude, you can’t even BUILD your inazuma characters if you pull them too early.

now i personally am not a huge fan of any inazuma character except ayato, and i do realize that it’s very difficult to make more unique characters given the restrictions of game mechanics (five elements, five weapon types) and assuming that they’re not going to add more, but it does lowkey concern me that i can find some very obvious connections from inazuma characters to characters from our previous regions:

(yoimiya : amber) :: (yae miko : lisa) :: (thoma : zhongli) :: (kokomi : barbara) :: (kazuha : venti) :: (ayato : childe) :: (ayaka : kaeya) :: (itto : noelle).

now obviously there are still plenty of inazuma characters who don’t have an analogous mondstadt/liyue character (or so i’ve connected) and it’s true that a lot of these are (five star : four star), which isn’t really fair to the four star character and doesn’t say much anyway (just that five stars do more dmg than four stars, which is true anyway), but it’s the (four star : five star) and (five star : five star) analogies that worries me.

why?

well, (four star : five star) is pretty obvious, right? if you have a four star inazuma character that’s about as strong as a five star character from liyue or mondstadt, it means that either four star characters are gradually getting stronger, or the previous five star characters are getting weaker. hoyoverse obviously wouldn’t retroactively make a character weaker, so the answer is that four star characters are getting stronger.

now is this a bad thing? well... on one hand, it’s great that f2ps can get really strong characters even without having a five star! but on the other hand, you can’t build said four star characters until you get to inazuma, which might take a while if you pull, say thoma, on the beginner’s banner lol. also, on some level, it begins our previous five stars’ journey to obsoleteness.

let’s look at an example: thoma and zhongli. i know they’re the only (four star : five star) pair here, but my friend said smth about how now that she has thoma, she doesn’t even need zhongli anymore because he’s just as good, and that really worried me. it’s true that hoyoverse actually had to buff zhongli because he was wayyy too weak before, but regardless, zhongli’s a five star! if thoma, a four star, has a shield that’s just as good if not better than a five star’s, that tells me that ppl might not be pulling for zhongli for his functionality anymore :( 

now obviously that’s not exactly true since you can build zhongli for a hybrid build but thoma’s pretty much only a shielder, and zhongli’s also a very popular character so i doubt ppl are gonna stop pulling for him, but my point is: if a four star character can do just as much as a five star character, why pull for the five star character?

point made, let’s move onto why i think (five star : five star) pairs are even more dangerous. i actually listed a couple of pairs of these in my list of analogies above, but i want to focus on (ayato : childe), mostly because these are two characters that i know well and use and love.

like i said before, childe used to be THE top damage dealer before xiao came into the picture. granted, he comes with a lot of restrictions, such as a super-specific weapon requirement, a constellation that’s pretty much required (strongly suggested, at least), and a very very iffy crit rate. okay, that last part might just be me LOL my childe never crits and ik ppl have said that their childe also rarely crits even with an awesome crit rate, so i might be biased LOL. 

but then i used ayato, and this man crits every other strike, he’s doing more dmg than childe ever does, and he’s not even built!!! i will admit that i’m probably biased here again because childe, after all, is not on a super good build (i didn’t know how to build characters when i got him), but i just... do not think that there should be THAT must discrepancy between their damage dealt.

that, and other miscellaneous things, really make me worry about power creep.

the fact that xiao is no longer the ceiling of damage (now i see ppl talking about ayaka and itto for it)... now see, i love xiao and he’s probably my best built character, and he can technically still be considered one of the top damage dealers, but he’s definitely got competition now, and the competition is slowly driving him out.

and the abyss, oh GOD the abyss-- i can’t even make it past 12-2 because i just don’t have the super specific characters to be able to defeat the bosses.

and the artifact sets? i’m sure we’ve all complained about the walls of description text that come with new sets. that’s particularly worrying because we’re seeing more uber-specific best-in-slot sets for certain characters rather than sets that a lot of people can use.

now granted, the artifact argument holds less conviction because obviously we’ve had specific BIS for the old domains as well, but in my defense, look at how many ppl can use crimson witch -- diluc, yanfei, hu tao, pyro dps amber, pyro dps benny, pyro dps ANYONE. now look at how many ppl can use vermillion hereafter -- xiao. that’s it. he’s the only person who loses HP during his burst. the best sets for him before were 2pc vv and 2pc glad, and while not super great, it certainly wasn’t bad, especially if you depended a lot on his E dmg. but now, vermillion is practically screaming at us to build him for his burst, which yeah granted that’s how he works best, but it ignores the need for his E, and... idk, i just don’t like that.

i guess what i’m trying to say is that it’s getting really hard to play without recently-released characters (particularly five star ones) and gameplay mechanics seem to favor recent characters as well and it’s getting hard for me, a pretty early player, to keep up, so i can’t imagine how hard it must be for new players to keep up. and i’m just scared because i’ve heard that honkai is pretty much p2p now and i don’t want genshin to become that. i don’t, i really wish genshin could stay f2p, no terms and conditions needed, but...

well i have to go to class now and i’m not sure i was even trying to make a point here (just me ranting about my opinions lol) but if you felt any way about it, feel free to leave a comment or send in an ask. i can’t reply to comments because this is a sideblog but asks will be replied to as long as they’re not rude and stuff lol. if you do send an ask, i will fully consider your argument but will also defend mine (that’s what one calls a conversation ;) ) so if you’re easily offended or can’t take criticism, do yourself a favor and just don’t send anything in LOL.

on a totally different note, i’ve been binging criminal minds (and i mean BINGING i’m halfway through s4 and it’s only been like 9 days) and i’m sort of in love with spencer reid please don’t @ me LOL. we’ve also been getting less interaction here and idc about follower count too much but it’s just a little sad :( remembering where we were at our gloriest heh and now it feels old and tired 😞 just like us i suppose LFMAOFAOOA don’t take that seriously pls.

May I introduce the Tumblr DC community to one of my two favorite Batfam AUs I have created. Bruce Wayne owns a hotel/museum near an ocean cliff and still has a chronic adoption problem but doesn’t fight crime. (If anyone writes this you can make it to where heroes still exist, the Batfam are the inly no capes)

WE still exists but it isn’t run by Bruce it is run by Lucius because back in the 60s Thomas and Martha bought the hotel and wanted that to be their legacy. They still die the same way but Bruce puts all his efforts into running and blossoming the hotel which was his parent’s dream project.

I’ll get back into the hotel in a minute I’m taking about the kids now

Dick is gotten a similar way, he visits the Cape with Haly’s Circus, his parents die because of faulty wiring sold to the circus by Zucco and Dick becomes an orphan. Bruce just so happened to use his one night off in a while to go see the circus. He keeps thinking about Dick and ends up adopting him. He helps Dick and the Circus bring Zucco to justice and sues the hell out of him and shuts down his business. (Adopted at 8))

Jason was found living in one of the shut down rooms of the hotel. Because his dad left and was in prison and his mom od. So Bruce treats him like a wild animal and starts to leave food out on a regular schedule until Jason gets comfortable with him and he adopts Jason. (five years younger than Dick)

Tim was the son of two wealthy archaeologists who were gone 11 out of the 12 months. Bruce met Tim because he liked to come into the museum and take pictures of the museum exhibits and hotel architecture and shoreline which he would develop and give copies to Bruce. So he opens his house to this little boy with a penchant for photography. Until one day Tim’e parents call Tim telling him that they are staying in Egypt permanently because the archeological dig is producing wonderous results and they’ll be hiring him an around the clock sitter. Only for Tim to wait three weeks and no one shows up. They went so far as to fire Ms. Mac but never hired a sitter for their son. So he goes to Bruce in tears and explains everything, because this is it-his parents finally did abandon him, and Bruce sues them for custody of Tim. (Three years younger than Jason, adopted at 7)

Damian was the result of a relationship Bruce had in college while studying hotel management and hospitality. Talia is the daughter of a hotel conglomerate owner who is currently trying to buy Bruce’s hotel so it can be torn down and Ra’s can built a new hyper expensive hotel in its place. Damian was sent to live with Bruce to try and get Bruce to have Damian inherit the hotel so Ra’s can get it and destroy it, but that backfired because instead Damian falls in love with the hotel and his new family (reluctantly) and wants to see the hotel and museum flourish, not tear down this historical piece of architecture to replace it with a soulless hotel only available to the wealthy elite. But something available to everyone that families vacation to because there is so much history and beauty in a thing that has stood for centuries. So Damian turns against Ra’s. Due not that while Damian and Tim do have a sibling rivalry it is not as vicious and cutting as it is in canon. They love each other they just don’t mesh well while in the same room. And yes, Damian still has his variety of pets (7 years younger than Tim)

Cass came to the hotel with her “father,” David Cain, who went to the Cape for business, and just ended up leaving and forgetting Cass at the hotel. He was still abusive and Cass had trouble speaking but he wasn’t “turn Cass into the world’s greatest assassin” abusive. After Bruce finds Cass, he sues Cain for parental custody and then ruins his life unrepentantly. (Couple of months older than Jason)

After Martha and Thomas died, Alfred took over managing the hotel while Bruce was still growing up and while he was getting his degrees, now he is the grandfather to Bruce’s many kids and helps to keep them running and cared for while they run and care for the hotel. He’s also the one that helps the new kids transfer into the life of running a hotel.

Barbara is the daughter of the Police Comissioner still who became friends with Dick and works, first part time at the museum/hotel and then full time. Same with Steph and Tim (1 year older than Dick)

Cullen and Harper work at the museum, Helena works at the hotel. Carrie does both. Duke is the newest acquisition. Only, his parents disappeared and no one has been able to find them yet. So Bruce currently had temporary custody of Duke who lives at the hotel with everyone. (Harper is a year older than Tim, Cullen is a year younger than Tim, Carrie is the same age as Jason, Duke is a few months younger than Tim)

Each person has different jobs. (Dick is concierge/check-in, Jason does guided history tours of the hotel/museum/grounds, Tim works in financials because he deals with the least amount of people, Helena, Carrie and Steph are both maids, Carrie also does janitorial stuff with Cullen, Barbara works hotel check-in with Dick, Barbara and Harper work cashier at the gift shop, Duke doesn’t have a job yet because he is still dealing with the disappearance of his parents, Damian does every job to see where he fits in best.

JARRO IS THE FAMILY PET STARFISH THAT TIM ADOPTED WHEN HE FIRST JOINED THE FAMILY AND RESCUED FROM BEING EATEN OFF THE BEACH

The hotel is still fully staffed with not-batkids, like grounds keepers and other hotel cleaners and janitors.

I’m turning Gotham nicer and changing the geography of the city.

The hotel Museum rests about 200 yds from a cliff that overlooks a beach. There is a well maintained stair case put into the cliff for people to walk down, as well as a longer gravel path that follows the cliff edge down to the shoreline. It is frequented by seals, sea lions, and in the distance, dolphins and whales. The hotel it’s self has about 100 or so acres of land and a long drive but it is technically within walking distance to the city. And it’s a normal coastal town with a port and touristic areas. Kinda eerie at night when the fog rolls in but that’s part of the charm of the NorthEast.

Selina is just Bruce’s friend in this. She is Helena’s mother and Bruce was a surrogate for her. She decided she wanted a baby and Bruce offered to be a donor. So Selina had Helena and Bruce is part of her life but not as her dad, which was the agreement. Selina takes care of the stray animals on the grounds and favors the cats.

Clark is a reporter that was tasked to right an article on the hotel and it’s history, became good friends with Bruce and brings his family (Lois, Jon, Bizarro, Kon, Kara, Lena, Chris, Ma, Pa, and Lex) on vacation to it every year. Lex and Clark are divorced husbands that left on good terms and are friendly enough to coparent their son, Connor, who was made the same way as canon but less hush hush and illegally, Kara is Clark’s cousin and Lena is her fiancée, Lois is his wife, Jon and Bizarro are their two biological sons (Bizarro has autism), Chris is their foster son. Bizarro latches onto Jason in a way that he hasn’t before and always loves coming to the hotel, Jon and Chris are best friends with Damian, Connor and Tim are long distance dating.

Collin, Maya, and Maps are Damian’s best friends from school (Damian has a crush on Collin) and he’s trying to convince them to join the hotel staff like his siblings’ friends but they are a) too young and b) not interested.

Roy has all of his problems as in canon and gets help for it, so as a way to try and bring the family closer, Oliver and Dinah arrange a vacation to the hotel for them Roy and Lian. As a stepping stone kind of thing. Get away from daily stress. Roy is resistant at first until he and Jason hit it off and start talking and Jason talks sense into him and they strike up a friendship turned romance.

The Flashfam visit the museum diring a countrywide roadtrip and mad the stop because Bart is a history buff and wouldn’t stop talking about it the entire trip. He becomes fast friends with Tim and is the only person to ever get a Tim Wayne history tour. No matter what Kon tells you he is super salty about it. Wally and Dick were internet friends and used the roadtrip as a way to be able to meet up.

Thad is the obligatory complainer who doesn’t want to stay in a musty old hotel.

Ivy is the main grounds keeper and is in charge of the native wildlife sanctuary most of the land is used for, as well as taking care of the native plantlife and lives in town with her girlfriend, Harley. Harley helps the kids prank Bruce.

Harley is a children’s psychiatrist hired by Bruce to help the kids deal with their various traumas. Her coming to the hotel for sessions is how she and Ivy met.

They started dating between Dick and Jason and Dick talks up each of them to the other, but each individual kid that comes in think they’d be cute together (since they are both professional while working there isn’t immediate proof that they are dating. But they will flirt with each other if they see each other) and it’s basically a right if passage to try and convince their siblings to help them get together and then try and set them up on their own and find out the hard way that they’re already together. They love seeing all the different way the kids try and set them up. They tend to go along with it until either the kids realise or they take pity on them.

Their favorite was Damian’s where he set up an entire romantic dinner at the hotel restaurant and Dick managed to slyly convince him to set it on a certain day that turned out to be Harley and Ivy’s anniversary.

Alfred is the head chef for the hotel, making room service meals and the breakfast buffet line up. Jason will help him out if he isn’t busy with other things.

Victor Fries and his wife hold an ice cream social ever summer at the hotel with all the ice cream flavors they came up with over the last year.

Edward Nygma, famous escape room designer, is hired to make an escape room themed on the hotel and museum that is built on the grounds near the main building.

Another ritual that starts, begins with Tim, where the older siblings convince the newest one that the hotel is haunted and Jason takes them on a “haunted ghost tour” of the abandoned part of the hotel (the part that is too dilapidated and run down to remodel safely) while the others are stationed at different parts of the hotel and grounds to run whatever scenario to scare the new kid. The only one that hasn’t been done to is Cass because even after several years she still jumps a little too hard at loud noises. But one time Jason accident closed a door a little too harshly while Cass and Tim were doing something and it caused her to jump so hard she knocked over Tim and started crying. They were contemplating whether she was strong enough to do it or not and that cemented that she wasn’t.

Tim and Cass are nearly inseparable and are commonly referred to as the Wayne Twins. For Halloween they decided to go as each other.
