You were unsure of when you had first met Astarion. When had you first fallen in love? Maybe 200 years ago? Maybe last week? Maybe in another lifetime.

You could imagine it. You chasing for the train, Astarion yelling for you to pick up the pace, that the universe wouldn’t wait for the slow, not even someone as sweet as you.

But you would act like you didn’t hear the last part, you would watch as Astarion’s face switched to something between disappointment and relief. You might even pretend not to notice that. The outlaw criminal, Astarion, a wanted fugitive, running with you, a fugitive from your future.

Or maybe the two of you met at a masquerade. Astarion in a pristine white suit, tailored to him with red stitching and a silver mask adorning him along with silver jewelry additions, highlighting his bright hair.

He would offer you his first dance of the night. Something in you would scream that he would also offer you his last. His last dance of the night wouldn’t be spent figuring out your footwork and pacing, his last dance would be spent adoring you. Adoring you in your classical suit, a mask almost matching his own.

You could imagine the two of you falling. Hard and fast. Towards bowling blue waves that reached high than either of you could reach. You’d be in the embrace of him, clutching him to your chest as he held you for dear life.

That’s how he looked at you. As if you were life itself. Even if he hadn’t known the feeling of life for so so long. You made him feel like he was living, that he didn’t have to be afraid of the sun, especially when it would beam at him through your eyes each morning that rose outside of the safety curtains.

Even as you laid still, pretending to be asleep while he pretended he didn’t know, he admired you. The dawn you brought him that he wasn’t sure if he would ever live to see with you. This perfect forever. The exact way he wanted the two of you to stay. Forever, always.

(More) Thoughts on Rosie! (And why does everyone assume all interactions with X character must mean they’re being manipulated) Hazbin hotel spoilers below!

So I’ve been seeing, not a lot, since I primarily haunt the Alastor tags, but still a few posts here and elsewhere about Rosie and how she’s manipulating Charlie for her own benefit.

And I just? Don’t see that? At all? Like, unless they meant it as in every conversation or help the main cast get from an overlord must mean that overlord is manipulating them for their own benefit. Which is just dumb.

If you were to ask me why Rosie would agree to lend her cannibals to Charlie and help her fend off the angels, then I’d say that:

it’s the princess of Hell asking for a favor, a BIG favor, sure, but a favor nonetheless. Why wouldn’t she want to build up a good relationship with her? Show her support for someone who might one day become the next ruler of hell?

It’s Alastor who’s presenting and also asking for that favor. Rosie is close friends with him, and she herself has said that Alastor has never done her wrong before. There’s no reason not to trust or think it’d be a good idea when Charlie’s being recommended? Sponsored? Backed by Alastor. Rosie trusts Alastor’s judgement, enough that she’s willing to throw her hat in the ring for Charlie.

Charlie made a good impression on her. She likes her spunk in asking for something so big during their first meeting, and even more that she’s trying to fight against what had appeared to be invincible monsters.

I wouldn’t call any of that “manipulation”, I’d call that agreeing to lend a hand for a potential future pay off. Rosie here isn’t trying to change Charlie’s mind or behavior, she’s encouraging Charlie to do what Charlie had set out to do in the first place. When Charlie opens up about her relationship problems, Rosie doesn’t try and force a wedge between her and Vaggie, she asks Charlie what she really feels underneath all the upset and confusion and helps her find the answers she’s always known.

Just what about this is manipulative behavior?????

Like, you can argue that Carmilla helping Vaggie was done more out of self interest (protection of her loved ones without needing to actually fight in the resulting war) than what Rosie did for Charlie was. But no one’s saying Carmilla is going around manipulating Vaggie. So why the double standards?

Alastor. Or what I’m gonna start calling the “Alastor Effect”. Where every character that’s on friendly terms with Alastor gets instantly dumped into the “cannot be trusted” category just because they’ve got a friendly relationship with Mr. “Do Not Trust” and so obviously they must be a bad person with bad intentions too. <- sarcasm

This is not me saying that the characters are doing this with complete altruistic intentions or out of the pure goodness of their hearts, because they’re not. They have clear personally beneficial reasons for wanting to help as they did. BUT what I am saying is that not every interaction with selfish intentions means that the character is being manipulative in their interactions.

For a show all about finding the best in souls gone bad, the fandom sure loves to assume the worst in every character.

The githyanki are the absolute worst. I don't know why, but every time I end up fighting them it's ten times worse than any other fight I have.

Just... they're so mobile. They can heal. They immediately and enthusiastically go after the weakest members of the party. They attack far too many times.

I'm on Explorer mode and all the other encounters mostly live up to that. But the bloody githyanki. Every damn time.

Although I have them to thank for hearing the 'Gale! No!' line from my Tav... multiple times. Man was practically a yo-yo in that fight.

So, implying the explosion that was meant to kill him somehow caused the same effect that made Spot?? And stuck him in Miles' universe?

Hmmm! Okay, so let's say this:

So, the formula for Peni begins as usual. Her dad is declared dead, and she is the only genetic match who can keep piloting SP//dr. She bonds with Spider at a young age, tinkers with her mech, is raised and trained by Ben and May, and then eventually, years later, is dropped into Miles' universe by Fisk's machine.

Something I learned recently about Peni is that she never got to see her dad often! He was a hero basically 24/7 and only briefly visited and spent time with Peni while she attended a boarding school. He apparently Tried to connect with her during these brief interactions, and it is eventually revealed that the week before he died, he wanted to quit being SP//dr so he could actually be a parent!

He tries to resign but is convinced to keep piloting SP//dr, the last mission sending him to his doom. His body is found intact but brain dead.

Except.

In this AU, the Suit is recovered with no body, just a mech to repair and a psychic spider to connect to a new host. When it bonds with Peni, it's widely believed that this is confirmation that her dad is well and truly dead.

Her dad wakes up in a blank space, drifting endlessly with only thoughts of his world and his life and his daughter to keep him afloat. Time passes. He loses his sense of self bit by despairing bit.

Then, the events of ISTV occur. He feels reality being ripped apart and has no way to interact or even perceive it in a way to break the haze of his muddled mind. He just watches and watches.

And then he sees his daughter, older now. He feels that spark of connection with Spider, too weak and not enough to alert the little arachnid of anything. He senses the other Spideys briefly but who cares who cares his daughter is RIGHT THERE.

And then she's gone. Back to her universe to keep growing and rebuilding and being a hero without him. Without knowing he loved her and wanted to be there for her.

Holes appear. One by one by one. They're not big enough for him to travel through, and the only places he sees are of this universe that is not his. He keeps an eye out. He watches this universe that isn't his, sees a Spider that isn't him or his daughter. He waits to see her again, but he doesn't.

Then, there's finally a Hole big enough to escape this prison.

There's only one person he knows in this universe who's met his daughter.

Now, the questions here are these: Has he cobbled together his mind enough to approach Miles to peacefully ask for help? Or is he so single-mindedly focused on his daughter that he resorts to Force to get his answers then later Science to break free from this place to find her himself?
